Shout out to the cameraman Sam who's uh just operating just off off screen behind us over there. I told you you can do the hook and you're gone with that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow. I like uh the production team behind us here, you know, 15 people, best boy, grip, uh, you know. And the boom operator.
The boom operator, the uh, you know, the the the A team, the uh the the B-roll team. What are they called? B unit. I don't know, it's it's your story. I'm just here. Uh yeah, we couldn't do it without our three camera operators, um Sony, Sony Jr. and Canon. Uh and our two light operators. Canonymous and our two light operators, Amazon and Amazon Prime.
Wow, there's like a big one. Well, yeah, Prime is obviously whichever one's brighter on the day. But no, we're we're selling.
My name is Amazon Prime. And this is a message to all Autobots. Let's not go down that path because we all know where it leads. We started as a bookstore, and now we sell products across the world. For my name is not Jeff Bezos.
Fuck. Good start. Great classic hits. 78 amped. Uh for legal reasons we can't claim that one.
My name is Sloptimus Prime.
Um pull one out for Peter Cullen, who in fact passed away not that long ago. Did he? Yeah. Did he also do Batman? Uh I think he might have an A Batman at some point. Peter Cullen. I've been getting real into the Batman video games. Um no, that's uh that's Kevin Conroy. Uh yes, so Peter Cullen. My name is Optimus Prime.
Yeah, yep, yep.
That's hard. Kevin Conroy did the Batman there. The animated series, the games. Which one are you up to? Uh I play Arkham Knight because it's the smoothest. I think City's City's the pinnacle in the city. City's the pinnacle. Yeah. Asylum makes me want a KMS. No, like Asylum's really good, but you just can't play it.
Like you have to play it first. Yeah. Otherwise, once you get to City, you're like I also think City's the easiest. Asylum's hard because it's older. Oh, like as like clunky to go. Yeah. I've been getting into it. Sometimes I get a bit scared because it's so dark.
Oh my god. There's clowns!
I think I think all three are pretty like if if cities are ten, I feel like asylum's a nine and and knights an eight, maybe. My only knock on um night is the amount of Batmobile shit. It got it does drag on a touch. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, welcome to video game chat. I think a Batman can't. Oh freaking welcome.
The law in Batman's sick, though, we'll say. It is true, yeah. But not the law enforcement. They're almost all corrupt. They are. GCPD? Yeah. G C P D. Anyway, hello everyone listening to the show. Good thanks. How are you? Um should we get onto something new, Maxwell? Mate, let's get stuck into some fresh new tunes, Sam.
I don't know why that was landed like that, but it did. And here we are. Um whoa. Sam, I'll give you a second to pull yourself together. Let me just have a sippy. How a little how a little Mississippi. Is there a Mississippi?
I don't know. Are you from Mississippi? Because yours is the only Pissard. Sib I'd pee.
Yours is the only piss I'd sip. Sam. Sorry I had to get warmed up here. My first a wank, I think. A song, I think, Sam. My first song this week is uh sorry, I just got a message at the same time. I just got a message at the same time, and I kind of half read it. I was like, oh no, whatever that's going.
One of your I do some editing already. People think I'm the difficult one on the show. I just hired it really well. Sam, uh, my first song is from a London, UK uh electronic punk band. Uh they're called Wargasm. Oh, yeah. Uh this song's called Get Down. And this kind of like, so I think the song kind of split in two between the electronic stuff and the punk stuff.
So the verse is more punky, um, it kind of jams pretty hard, and then the chorus goes way more like choppy vocal lines, electronic, affected kind of sound. And it kind of like kicks off at the end towards like, you know, it all kind of like blows up a little bit. Um these guys have had some collaborations with like Anti Shakari before, which I think you can kind of hear throughout the um throughout the track, but then also a bit like that J pop metal, like almost like baby metal kind of thing as well.
So um, yeah, this is get down by Wargasm. Almost a almost a PG term. Yeah. Get down. It's very angry. All go no stop. Just fucking just fucking it reminds me of a movie where they're like, we've gotta go. Yeah, yeah, definitely a getaway scene. Yeah, yeah. Getaway plan. Uh potentially.
If I've learned anything. Anyway.
How about some fresh new tunes, Sam? It's been a good week of new music, Maxwell. Oh, do you go fishing, pull up some some tuners? What did I say? It's been a big new week of music or something. I don't know. I don't know what I said. Big week of new music. Where'd the fishing come from? I don't know.
I just felt like uh need to add a little prepare yourselves, everyone. He's on one tonight. He's fucking he's he's on one. Oh wow. Well, I'm gonna start with Breakdown by Amira Afelkey. She is a very cool artist, she kind of combines grunge gaze with emo kind of heft. It's a cool song. I'm gonna play you just the intro to give you a bit of a bit of a taste.
Fuck underscore meetup.exe. I hate my town and my parents don't understand. Dang. I have to hang out at the car park at the 7-Eleven. Rats. Mum's not gonna pick me up from school. I have to catch the bus. Blast. I have to live in this small town. Shit bugger bum cocked it far. I didn't mind, I didn't know where that was going at the beginning with the kind of uh choppy vocal bit, and then it didn't go the way I thought it would.
I didn't know where it was going, and then I predicted it and I got it wrong. Yeah, but not bad. I didn't didn't mind it. Not bad, not bad. That's code V. He didn't like it, guys. No, it's not getting in the playlist, I'll tell you that much for you. It's not bad. See what I mean. You've brought worst.
Sambo, my next song is from an artist called Love Spells. Yeah. Uh this is kind of like dream pop cross like indie shoe gays. Uh, they're from Houston, Texas, and it's kind of like got this kind of woozy western heat, hot sort of sound. I think a bit like Texas Sun, Krumbin Leon Bridges. Yep. Um, and then it's but it's quite mellow and like intimate, and I feel like the instrumentation is like really close-miced, and it's you just feel like you're in the middle of this band playing this song.
And I don't actually know if it's a band or a single artist, but you feel like you're in the middle of it all. So yeah, this is uh keep it to yourself by love spells.
Very chill.
Good good uh road trip and Route 66, heat hazel on the tarmac kind of music. I'll take your word for it. Um I'm gonna bring some Heft Maxwell for the people. It's what you want. Well, it's what some people want. Um let's go. Wage War. Friends of the show now. Oh yes. Dropped a new album called Landfall.
As you know, it's very heavy. It is thick. Thick with a double C. The song is called Silk. Oh, yes, yeah. This is a chunky boy. Which they, if you haven't listened to the chat, go and have a listen to it because they called this one out as just disgustingly heavy. And we're gonna play you 15 seconds into the song.
Whoa, we're hit with this. Double nipple twister. Tuning both the radios, Sam. Well, sometimes it's the the tuner and the volume knob. And then you're like, Sam, get off my nipples. Sam, what do you mean? Time first. Uh Sam, another band that dropped uh some f I'm really in the clap. I'm really in my clapping mode, aren't I?
He's got the clap, ladies and gentlemen. Sam, another friends of the show, another band that dropped an album uh last week is Unpeople, who by the time this is out, our listeners will know that we've talked to. By the time of recording, they have no idea. They've got no idea. They're like, I wish they'd talked to Unpeople.
Little do they know that I insulted her mother. Sam went in hard on poor M's mom. Uh, shout out Mrs. M's mom. We um Yeah, sorry, M's mom. What did I call her? Old timer. Old timer.
And I think she was genuinely bitching. I think it shook it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Definitely. Did he just say that?
Like, yep. I'm sure M's Mum is lovely and and sprightly and youthful. Let's hope we get mass listenership on it. Let's hope Em's Mum listens. But uh their album, We Are Unpeople dropped, the other day. And this is the track As You Were. Uh, it's the closer on the on the album. And as you, as you kind of, if you have listened to our interview with them yesterday, you'll hear that this track was kind of designed specifically to be the closer on the track.
It has this big kind of triumphant feel to it. But um, I think kind of like Welcome to the Black Parade, mixed with like the tone of like Carmen Jakar, who you brought to the show before. But then a bit more indie rock meets metal at the same time. Very unpeople. It's hard to kind of describe it. You just kind of have to have to listen to it.
So, yeah, this I'm gonna play you two little bits. Uh, this is As You Were by Unpeople. And then this is this is the back end, this is where more of the uh the welcome lap right comes in. Daddy. Will they're a cool band. Yeah. I think they're gonna be quite big. In the same way, like Don Broco, like we spoke to them about, changes their genres up depending on how they're feeling.
On people are very similar. Yeah, it's uh if you if you haven't listened to any on people, um, get around it because it's just the the way they put their poppy indie rock kind of sound in with like just as you heard, like some pretty thrashy shit. Quite good. Yeah, absolutely. Speaking of uh Don Broco, actually, we're going to talk about them very shortly.
Are we? Yes, Donathan. Donathan Brockus. Maxwell, my third song, third and final. Um, I brought Kennedy Cash to the show a few times. Yeah, a few times ago. And I'm just realizing now that I don't have this. Oh yes, I do. I don't have the song! Where's the song? It's here. Fear not, people. Um I've she combines like grungy vibes, grungy emo with pop.
Sort of like goth pop. I've recently discovered another artist uh called Dev Lemons. Oh. Sure. And she's a very cool artist, similar vein to like Kennedy Cash with that kind of emo vibe, goes a bit heavy at the end. I'm gonna play you just a little. I find with these artists they have very cool vocal rhythms.
That's their point of separation. So I'm just gonna play this song. It's called Best Friend. How's that for a description in terms of fucking ADHD? That is super nineties, super late nineties, very um like dream gaze. Yeah, garbage, kind of like the way that they would bring those like weird little like dance and electronic and hip-hop bits into the songs and then fade them in and out and stuff like that.
Yeah, it's cool.
I'm a big fan of it. Don't mind that at all. Maxwell. Here comes the news. Here comes the news. 52 biggest news pieces 2027. News!
Here comes the news. Ready or not? Here's the crime stats from the south. I'd a dog that surfs.
Oh fuck. I actually want to, I'm gonna put it on the record. Hopefully, when they come to Brisbane, POD, I'd love to watch the bigger fell hits with POD.
Not even interview them, we'll just sit there and watch the hits. How about that? Oh, he's fucking laid out like a fucking bread bed spread.
Yeah, what do you call this? Footy?
Yeah, yes. But it's kick tennis. Arsy rules footy. You arsey, so crazy, you crazy arsies. Crazy Arsies. Like, brother, you can roll the S. Baradadon. Baradadon. G Wagon Porcy. P O D Pussy Wagon Chick and Organs. Oh, lucky you're from Barbados, Maxwell. I think the uh I think the episode title might have selected itself this week.
Anyway. Anyway. G Wagon, Porcy. Here comes the news, Sam. Maxwell, it's happened. We've all got the glass tonight. Oh. Daddy's home. Christmas has come early, Maxwell. Dad Rock is here. Nickelback coming to Australia 2027. Yeah. Everything under the sun tour with friends of the show, Don Barocco. Playing Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, Sydney, and the Hunter Valley.
Damn. I mean, Hunter Valley feels like premium dad rock territory. Oh, that is not just three quarter length hurlies. That is some Ralph Loren. Some uh von Dutch. Some Ed Hardy's. Oh, bedazzled a bedazzled item. A bedazzled asshole. Hey, don't rule it out. Because I'm I'm Hunter Valley, you got Silver Jair, but don't forget, you got screaming jets too.
Oh, you do too.
I don't oh shouldn't have let it happen.
What's their song? Send anyway, you got a new way. I was like, fine.
Oh, I tell you what though, I've never been so excited for a tour announcement in my whole life. I can't wait to pull on the Etneys, the Hurley's. Yeah. I gotta buy them first. Yeah, I was gonna say some some big Oakley sunglasses that wrap right around. And just Bundy rums the whole time and get punchy in the pit when someone knocks my drink.
Yeah. But for real, it's a big tour. It's I'll tell you what. Uh when this news landed, uh, I opened my phone, I saw like it was overnight or in early in the morning, opened my phone, I looked, I saw the news, and I was like, Sam is a husk of a man on the floor crying, shitting and farting. He's just it just he's all of his dreams have come true at once.
I couldn't stand up for a good 30 minutes, and I got a bit of a headache. Blood rush. Blood rush, not to the head. Well, not to the head. But luckily there's not much to work with. So what about for the dates? Date me up, Sam. Dates. You got a bit of a wait. It's this time next year. So the 2nd of October through to the 16th of October through Live Nation.
Um kind of crazy that they announce it and tickets go on pre-sale this week. Nuts. I I don't like that. I don't know where they do it, but strike all the iron is. Yeah, you've got to generate momentum and get people buying, but it's a long way to plan out. It's like when you go to the dentist. What are you doing this time in three years?
Well, there's only one time to go to the dentist, Sam. Fourth. Yeah, oh sorry, just a bit off. Yeah. Your fourth doesn't hurt. Does it, Sam? Otherwise, you would be going to the dentist. I will say though, I'm very excited to watch all the hits. Well, they're bringing friends of the show around with them, which you uh so generously uh highlighted uh earlier in the show.
Yeah, and obviously Don Broker released a song with Nickelback, which would be very cool. I actually commented asking Don Broker themselves if at the Australian show I can wave my t-shirt around to Animals by Nickelback, as well as the t-shirt song. And they didn't say yes, but they did like the comment.
They didn't say no. Which, well, the like of the comment says to me that we have approval. It's a quiet nod. It's a respectful I think it's Rob going for Chad, anything is possible. Which means you and I have one year to grow out of curly mullets. Yeah. Maybe get into shape because Rob's quite he's a big yarn.
I don't have to do some fucking work, I'll tell you what. Rob's a big yarn it. So I can rather go in being a seven seven-ton diesel generator. Shout out our Travis Scott fans. But I tell you what, I am going to be throwing my weight around in that nickelback pit. Yeah. And I'm gonna love it. Yeah. This is how you remind me, Sam.
How you remind me, saving me. If everyone cared animals, someday for me. Let me talk you through all their discography. No, but it is very exciting. Sam, another very fucking cool tour that got announced last week. Nickelback's coming back the year off. Double nickelback, nickel back to back. Uh, Sam, powder finger.
We we talked about it last week uh on socials, and they've only bloody gone and fucking done it, Sam. They've gone and fucking done it. It was absolute crazy madmen. They've bloody gone and done it. They've gone and done it. Big tours, big shows, lots of shows. Fucking plenty around. So they're doing uh what what they're calling a stadium-sized pop-up tent uh in Brisbane, Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne between September 3rd next year and October 30th.
So a bit of an overlap with Nickelback. Maybe we could get a Bernard Fanning Chad Kroger overlap there. Um, but uh just like first of all, shout out for going to all the Metro Maj major metros, but also shout out for going to Cairns and plenty of dates. Four dates in Brisbane, two dates in Cairns, two dates in Perth, four dates in Sydney, two dates in Adelaide, four days in Melbourne.
Just fuck yeah. It's huge. And obviously, yeah, it's it's so cool. They're gonna be playing so many bangers at huge stages. I think the demand's gonna be massive. Yeah, I still think even with four stadium sized well not stadium, necessarily stadium-sized dates, but arena-sized dates um in Brisbane, I think there'll be plenty of uh of competition to get those tickets.
I mean the showgrounds, what does that main arena hold? 20,000? Yeah, about that. Yeah, yeah. Because you think of a good things or like a I think a sound wave back in the day had 50,000 there. If you include all the other spaces, if you include all the other spaces, but the main stage easily 20,000.
So it's it's very cool. Yeah, it's fucking sick. I'm I'm very keen to see how they bring back, you know, the entirety of the powder thinking experience. But uh by the sounds of it, they're they're they're going all in. The last one before we get to songs from the DMs, the songs that you guys have sent in, because there's a few.
Um I want to quickly give a shout out to Frank Carter because for the well, who those who those four don't know. For those who don't know, Frank Carter from Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes now sings for The Sex Pistols. And he was in the news uh this week for calling out uh a fan who seemed to have a problem with the Sex Pistols women only pit.
And he's generated a lot of support online, and naturally so. Not the man, Frank Carter. But it just it highlighted a point that I think is really um fitting and a good reminder for us to reiterate the point that we always mention about going to shows, which is just don't be a dick. Don't be a dick. So a lot of the comments filtering out, and for those that haven't seen it, go and just look it up on Instagram or TikTok.
Essentially Frank Carter calls out this guy who says if girls girls shouldn't have an only like a girls-only pit because they can get in the pit anytime. And he goes, they fucking can't because every time they get in, they get groped or they get punched or they get hit. Yeah. And they just they just can't.
Yeah. And then he was the bloke was complaining and he said Frank said, it's not your lived experience, shut the fuck up and get out. Yeah. Which I'm here for. Yeah, absolutely. But you speak to any woman that goes to live music, any woman you know, that shit just goes on all the time. So just fucking, if a girl's only pit is called at a show, fucking get around it.
Protect the outside so fuck with don't get in. Yeah. And just respect people. It's not that hard. And also it's gonna be probably at max like two or three songs. Like you can you can have a break, Chief. Just account your father. I yeah. I really need pit etiquette to be taught across the board because I feel like, and I'm not having to go at them because I'm glad that young people are coming to shows.
The COVID generation, yeah, fuck, they need to learn pit etiquette pretty quick. Having said that though, I've there's plenty of like older folks, and I count myself in that group as well, who just don't have pit etiquette, who haven't been like just who are out there trying to get crowd kill and just be fuck with.
Just the pit is for everyone. Everyone should feel safe and it should feel accessible to everyone. Yeah. If someone goes falls down, you pick them up. You don't target people, you don't rush people, you you give people space to do what they want to do. The pit is for everyone. A hundred percent. That's not to say it's not, you know, accidents don't happen, it's not dangerous.
But like as it shouldn't be deliberately dangerous. Absolutely not. It's it's dancing, it's a dance circle that's just it appears violent because the music is aggressive, yeah. But it's not meant to be a place where fights happen. No, it's an unfortunate side effect of the style. Yeah. But it's meant to be, yeah, you're right, an inclusive environment.
And I I think I want to shout out as well. I don't think. I want to I'm gonna consider shouting out. I also want to shout out the people that fly under the radar in the pits, and they're the people that stand first defense, line of defense, yeah, in the pit and the crowd. Yeah. Because often they're the ones that are with women, they're with sometimes children, or they're with people who or around people that don't know pit rules, yeah, and they're actually protecting the crowd from getting hit.
They're taking the heat. Yeah. I'm like, I respect you. Yeah. I don't want to go in there. Yeah. But we need people that are. Look, let's bring the mood up. Let's chat through some stuff that our listeners have sent in. Uh that's you guys. I don't know which camera you looked at then. All three. Um, Sam, yeah, these are songs that people have sent in uh in our DMs and our emails, all over the place.
Um, and we've gone through and selected uh some of our favorites. As we say, every time we do this, we get so many submissions. Please be patient. Yours may or may not come through. Sorry, it definitely comes through. We definitely listen to them, but it may not come up in this list. So six blacklists individuals.
Yeah, that's true. I've got a real, I've got a real This person's not getting on the show. Oh, you send in one song and we go as if. No, we're just kidding. We listen to it literally every single time. Laretta Higgins, you won't get on the show. Mom, stop sending. Mom, sugar is not going on the show again.
Mom, honestly, I'm not putting Black Dahlia murder on the show. People know who they are. No, but in all seriousness, we do try our very hardest to get to every single one. Yeah. Um, and if we haven't gotten to them this week, we'll get to them next time we do it. You should see the length of the list that we have to eventually get through.
And the fact that we do this kind of once a month and we do bring five each, that list is just getting longer. My first song is by a band called Ridgeway. Our song is called Woozy. It's kind of punk surf rock. Okay. Which is kind of the same thing. I mean, it's Deltones meets uh sex pistols. Yeah, not quite.
Okay. Um, it's I don't know. You'll just have to listen and learn. It's June Rats. Uh pretty much. June Rats with a better singer. Okay. Whoa. Don't talk about Danny.
I think like um Homecoming, I think is the song. Okay. What is that? Uh yeah.
That's beautiful. What was the song? What was song? What was the song called again? Woozy. Woozy. By Ridgway. Fuck me up.
I wonder why I'm hanging around the edge of my sea. The edge of my sea, the way.
Yeah, Vibe. Definitely can't put the part in where I'm singing the words. This one is from a post-punk band coming out of Sydney. They are called Holla. Um, the band, sorry.
Sorry.
The band themselves sent this in, think something on the slightly more indie rock end of like Fontaine's DC or the slightly more like heavier sound of something like Johnny Hunter. Um, so that kind of yeah, post-punk kind of bleak punk kind of sound. Uh, this song is called Shot at Fame. Yeah, that's cool.
It um I love it when they do what you think they're gonna do. I love predictability. It's so satisfying. It's like when you see a bad driver and go, aha, I knew it! A straight white male. I see one fleeing the scene of the crime every Monday night. I may have had an incident. My next song, Maxwell from the DMs, is Breaking In by Seer Believer.
You know I'm a fan of Gleamer. Oh, yeah. So Seer Believer is like emo y rock, like oh I miss you, but I'm not quite Tom Delong, Sam. Where are you? And my Yad. This was sent in by Mathieu, which is Matthew. French. Matteo. Uh Matthew. Yep. And his brothers Luke and John for our Catholics, there. Yeah, fuck Mark.
Oh, it's all right. Yeah, fuck that guy. He's a he's a big bunny, too. Oh.
Where art thou? Jesus my saviour.
Anyway, this is called Breaking In. Get some sad shit on you.
Ten years of dying to stay.
My next song is from a band called The Drawn Out. These guys are from Denver, Colorado. So quite close to where uh Seer Believer are from, I believe. Colorado. Colorado. Uh Sam, this is kind of actually sort of similar vein. To me, this sounds like Ruby Fields Meets Midwest emo.
Yep.
Um, this was sent in also by the band. Uh, and it's a song's called Nothing Neutral. Hi, Band. Hi, Band. Hi, the drawn out. Good to see you. How are you? Shut up. You doing good? Shut up. Have a good day. Shut up. Yeah, me too. Thanks for asking. Yeah, it is quite indie, isn't it? Ruby Fields, if she wasn't into dinosaurs.
Yeah. Into past space. Planets. Right. Death Dance by Levels is my next song, Maxwell. No done fucking by it's just getting straight to the point here. Not here to fornicate with arachnids. This was sent in by Tim with two M's. Oh. Hello, Tim. Tim. Tim to his friend. Tim. Tim. That's Tim. This is very.
Do you reckon he could be like a llama jack? Tim. You are having fun tonight. Capital of Mali.
Tim. Happy with that one. Look at him. Fucking hell. Oh, Jesus wept. Judith. No. Murdo. Oh, you put an autistic and 90H in a room, and next minute you get fine. Psychological phenomenon. Feminine Armandon.
Anyway, Death Dance by Levels. Think sexy metal means a little bit heavy, which is the same thing. Sexy metal literally is heavy. Yeah. Sachi 6 with a bit more technicality to it, maybe. I'm going to give you the breakdown though. Yeah, break me down, Sam. Didn't mean to go that far, sorry everyone. Philfi.
Philfi. Philfi. I've got an uncle filfi, actually. Philip Fiona. Uh Sam, my next song is from a Swedish alt-pop artist that I think kind of sounds like Scandinavian, Scandinavian Charlie X E X and maybe like Nina Jurachi, like scattered in there as well. The artist, I believe, is called Yalda, J-A-L-D-A, and the song is called Blonde.
I don't speak Swedish, but I think this is about someone who's like yearning to be blonde so they fit in and get like kind of get the attention of their crush. This one was submitted by Geg, I think. Like Greg, but without the R. Tim and Geg.
You guys have weird names.
Our parents gave us three letter names. I mean, so did Geg, and kind of so did Tim. Yeah, true. It was only three individual letters. Walked on a rake then, didn't I? This is Blonde by Yalder? Yalda? I don't know. From Geg. From Geg.
Inga Flier Beatsweet.
Don't tell you labram Sam. You get that on the big jobs, don't you? I certainly did. It is very fittish, isn't that? See. My next one, Maxwell. The world will end for us by morrow. That's quite dark.
Yeah.
Sent in by Max.
unknown Oh.
Good name. Is it actually? No. But for the sake of the story, I just wanted to excite you. No. We've got Geg and then we've got Greg. Oh. Yeah. Ah. That's what he found. Goodness me. Can't wait to finish this episode. No, this song is very I can't actually remember. Song's like a player. We are prepared.
Prepared. That was quite nice. So what I was meant to say is like kind of Juitsy. Yeah. Ah, yes. I'm serving on Ju Juitsu Juty. What's your father is actually. Juitsy Cattoo, Sam. Uh the next song I've got is from a band called Snowmine. Uh they were from Brooklyn in 2011-ish. I think that's when they started out, but I think they've just banned it now.
They've kind of gone their own separate ways. Unless some tragedy has happened, in which case, apologies. I'm gonna try again to get my joke in. Sorry. They're from Brooklyn. That's alright. Anyway, Sam. Snowmine, uh, the band, they're from Brooklyn. And this track kind of feels like sort of chill, moodier temper trap with like maybe like cold war kids or something like that.
And it was submitted by Courtney. Shout out. Um C N. Anyway, let's play the song. This is hologram by Snowmine.
You give it one last name, and then it's gone. And then it's gone. That she swamped.
Very tranquil. Very tranquil. Very snowflakes. Very relaxed. Very relaxed. Well, from one genre to another. We've gone from chill snowflakes to industrial metal. This is significant other by De Rice. De Rice, maybe? De Raiser, yeah. That's what I said. Who knows? What is this? Is this Rice? Check that all right.
Cheese also. It says crank out. I used to watch all six minutes of that video. It's so good. That poor guy. That fucking poor man. Although when he gets all the way to the end, the guy's like, oh, we're done here. He goes, oh the way. And what is this one? And they just don't cut. He does about six of them.
Back there, the that shop attendant should have earned like a fucking award. He's so patient and calm. These are all cheeses. What is this one? Cheese also. It's cheese also. And then he goes to the new islands. What is this? Butter. Uh anyway, this significant other sent in by Cody. Shout out, Cody.
Um, this is a blank, Down. Fuck, I love MX vs. A TV almost. Shout out everyone that sent in their songs. Yeah, including this one where I've got one more. I haven't done my five yet. Oh, I went first. Yeah, you did. I'm so used to him going first. That's well, well, you always finished. I've read that before earlier.
Oh no, you're right. Um just because you're so pretty. Um, this is from a band right here in Brisbane. Uh, this is the band called All Hours. Um, and they sound in themselves think kind of stand Atlantic to Not Alive, sort of female fronted punk, pop-punk kind of sound. Some heavier vocals in there as well, just to thicken it up.
Um, this song is called Let Me Go. Again, the band is All Hours. Like that. Well, if we didn't get to your song, sorry, send it again. We love our listeners. We do love you all. We genuinely couldn't do it without you. We love you all. Um even if we're a bit awkward when you meet us. Let's get to the suitcase.
Let's do that, Sam. Zippy zippy zaza. You want to go or me? Yeah, fuck it. I'll go. Why not? Sam, I've been seeing a lot of line about the resurgence of millennial optimism. And I thought, here's some deeper cut tracks that people need to get into their playlists if they're going down that route. Okay, so what's Millennial Optimism?
Oh, from the from the start. You know that kind of uh from the start you didn't get it. Okay. So around the early 1950s, blues, country, and jazz kind of fused in the scene called rock and roll, Sam. And that kind of steered popular music for the next. Now, millennial optimism, kind of that uh the the weird kind of mashup where a whole bit of genres all landed together and produced a bunch of like that fresh, bright people would call it kind of hipster music, but it all kind of had this quite positive tone to it, like either sonically or thematically, quite positive tone to it.
And I think I've picked four, oh sorry, five songs that sort of fit into that world. And um, these are these probably aren't the ones that you'll see, but you know, people will will shout out like MGMT or Foster the People or like those kind of songs. Yeah, and I just these these ones perfectly sit in those categories, but just probably slightly deeper cuts.
All right, hit me with it.
Yeah, all right. Uh the first one, Sam, is the saddest summer ever. It's just called Saddest Summer. I don't know why I did the full lyric. Saddest Summer by the drums. I think very nipple guitar-y kind of like high surf rock. Yeah, exactly. Just zoning in on the pepperoni slices, there, Sam. I think it's a little bit like nipple guitar, everything feels deliberately detuned, you know, like it's all kind of secondhand purchased guitars that sound a bit kind of fucked.
Um, but fun, that's kind of what adds the charm to it. Um, vaguely melancholy, a little bit mopey sounding, um, but just sort of like a fun sonic experience. Possibly. He's gonna fucking hate it.
Yeah, come on.
unknown Yeah.
So far up your alley. I understand that that music's for some people, that some people is not me. People who can who can just smile. I can smile. It's like someone has fucking stabbed your foot. Uh next up, Sam. Good start. Can't get any worse. Uh Sam Nano. Cousins, vampire weekend. Next up is a band called Glass Towers.
We're going back into the world of nipple guitar again. Uh, we're we're we're dipping twice into that same pool. Um, but this one's kind of a bit more like that sort of sore, like if if the drums are more like kind of indie shitty surf punk, this is kind of more that like shimmery indie sound, if that makes sense.
Um so this is called Halcyon. Um, yeah, just kind of a like a very bright, positive sounding song, and the lyric is kind of a bit bit sad, as per a lot of these. Hit me. Yeah, that's cool. That's more much. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I told I'm bringing a spread here, Sam. Uh Sam, this next one is by a band called Gypsy and the Cat, who I think have maybe rebranded.
Uh, but it's the name of the band when it came out. So the song is called Joan of Arc. Um, indie rock song that's kind of entirely built around like witty wordplay, so classic millennial optimism. And then it's sort of like dream pop, quite polished kind of sort of vibe. Um, yeah, let's have a little listen.
I'm gonna hate this, I can tell you. I don't know.
I I'd say this is exactly 50 50 between you either will hate this or won't mind it. As long as it's washy, I tend to get around it. He likes a guitar effect. I do. Yeah. If it's too like tight and polished, yeah, I'm like, fucking kill me. Oh, boom clap. Loves a hand clap. Boom clap. Put that Glock in my temple.
Glockenspiel. Yeah, what do you think of it? Everyone obviously knows Kimbra from uh somebody they used to know. Yeah. The Goat She song. And no, the goat. Yay, Sam. And everyone forgets that at the same time as that song dropped, Kimbra also released her own uh solo record. And this song is from that record, it's Cameo Lover.
And I think this is it's it's well worth listening to that whole record, but this is probably the best, like quick microcosm of that. I think like kind of that soul revival sound that was kind of happening in the UK, like Amy Winehouse sort of thing, mixed with like Lisa Mitchell.
Oh yeah.
Yep. So that's uh kind of what we're going for here. This is Cameo Lover by Kimbra. Get this man to a soul concert now. Oh, you hit yourself in the chin. No, you know when you like it. You pulled the muscle. Yeah, you should pull the muscle. Oh, that hurts. Oh, that'll do it, Sam. Uh, and finally, Sam, for rounding out millennial optimism.
I'm gonna go another way and say you hate this one, but we'll find out. This is Architecture in Helsinki.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Uh, and I think like weird acoustic and synthesizer sounds put together, vocal manipulations, like little vocal vocal nippies, uh, little funky beat, and kind of this general upbeat vibe is kind of exactly what puts this into millennial optimism territory. Um and yeah, you know what? I'm ready, Daddy.
Hit me. Let's bloody well go, Sam.
Don't live like a runaway. Break those hearts so carefully. Don't live like a runaway.
Let's beep.
He's good outside his comfort zone. He plays it cool. That's three out of five. That's not bad. That's not bad. That's not bad. Yeah. Not for a for a genre that I would say almost statistically is designed for you to hate it. The people want a gym playlist. Oh, everyone named Jim. James Morrison. Uh James.
Uh uh James Brown. Uh James May. James May. He may not too as well. Cock. For our top B fans. Songs that need to be on everyone's gym playlist maxwell. And we're gonna start out with Throne. And boy, if you need something fast, impactful, get those weights off the floor. This is for hit workouts, possibly.
Definitely not. It's definitely a weight. This is uh on the verge. So if you need something fast, explosive, it's high intensity interval training sound. Yeah, it's true. You got me on the technicality. This is on the verge. Get ready. Prepare Uranus. The planet?
So offer it, just like it's trust me, and so I'll be up my ticket.
Your PT would be very disappointed in that form. I'll tell you what, some of the PTs at my gym would fucking think that's a great idea. They need to go back to uni. Anyway, shout out, good luck. Uh the next song is a bit of a change of pace, Maxwell. I think when I go to the gym, I listen to a lot of heft, but I also listen to a lot of dance music because sometimes I just want that.
Some allergic to it. Sometimes you just need to fucking calm down and just get good energy and not have someone scream in your ear. So this is Be Without You by Sosa. Is this for your active recovery period? No, this is in the gym. Oh wow, shit, fuck. This is on the gym floor. Oh shit, fuck. Oh shit, fuck.
Uh be without you. This will be up your alley, I reckon. Let's find out. All right. What a change. Distancy. Come on. I thought you'd like that. Yeah. I've got to I've tried to like mix it up here for you. Because I genuinely do listen to EDM in all forms in the gym. And you'll see Chill House, Chill Wave.
Down tempo. The midnight exclusively. Uh the next one, I'm gonna go back to some heft. This is Rebirth Protocol by Vane FM, a very cult-loved band. I don't think they're around anymore, but this song in particular, it's short, it's fast, it's in your ears, it goes for a minute. And when you need a bit of fucking get up and go.
This is that uh the that last climb on the bike standing, you're going full resistance. Yeah. Sometimes if you play the right song when you walk into the gym, you can you sort of feel like you're in the zone straight away. Wow, straight in the zone. You don't want to go straight to the zone. No, you're just stepping in a warm-up.
You're stepping into the zone. Yeah. Anyway. From stretching. Yeah. Yeah. Don't go straight to the zone. No. This is not professional advice. In case he hasn't told you. Not straight into the zone. Mate, if the zone's here, linger for a moment, then step into the zone. Active warm-ups. Yeah. Oh, absolutely.
Don't want to like, as a man with enough bodily injuries, take your time. Get to the zone when you're ready. You get on the stair max of that bad boy, don't you? Just the elliptical.
unknown I do love the elliptical.
It's quite fun, isn't it? Go backwards. Whoopsies. Alright, funk me up, Sam. Alright, the next one is some Wind Waker action. This is dopamine freestyle. And they obviously combine a lot of rap and pop elements. Um, this was from their previous album called Love Language. Um, obviously, well, two albums ago, technically.
But this song is so fun, it's so upbeat, it's so energetic, fast paced, good rhythm. Rhythm. Get it up, yeah. Rhythm. Bada dad. And and which exercise grouping would you put this in? Is it a push or a pull? An upper body, a lower body? Uh is it chest day, Sam? Monday's chest day, brother. Monday's actually back.
Oh, you're Max Higgins. Fucking calm down, brother. Yeah, I know. Banger, though. So fun. Uh last one is some EDM again, Maxwell. This is a little bit more trappy. It's a little bit dubsteppy. I don't think it's trap, actually. I think it's dubstep exclusively. EDM, even dancier music. This is Virtual Riot.
Okay. Who I brought to the show before. He's very dubby thing, like 2014 era dance music. Uh song's called Burning Out, and they actually feature the avalanches in this. There you go. That's a sample. From uh Frontier Psychologist. Psychiatrist, but yes. He's got his medical degree. A psychiatrist is someone who has a medical degree.
A psychologist is someone who has a psychology degree. Shout out. A psychiatrist can uh prescribe drugs for antidepressants. That's correct. Which apparently kill your sex drive. Wouldn't no. Don't have one. I was gonna say, I don't have one to begin with. Yes, I just have depression. The sexiest of all the mental health disorders.
The sexiest of all the eschens. Anyway, this is burning out a virtual riot. Get it up, yeah. Uh any particular uh exercise about for this one? Uh legs. Legs.
I think we're never gonna die, die, die, die, die, die.
Click, click, click.
Hot box shot there. That was adductor and abductors. What I would say, I think that feels like a real resistance training number. Like, you know, like like a slow uh what do they call it? Oh, yeah. Deloading, whatever they call it. Yeah, whatever. Yeah. But anyway, that's all we've got time for today on the 78 amp podcast.
Like, subscribe, hit the bell to be notified. That was bad Anthony Fantano, but yeah, thanks. Hit the bell as well. Oh, I can't watch that dude. That's Santhony Mugtano over there. I don't like that dude very much.
