Our scripture reading for this morning is from Luke -35. “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again?<strong> </strong>Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!” Jesus argues that just as tasteless "salt" is useless—not even good as fertilizer (the manure pile)—a disciple who loses his distinctiveness and commitment to Christ becomes ineffective—useless—for the Kingdom of God. The rhetorical question "how do you make it salty again?" highlights the seriousness of turning back to your old ways or becoming "lukewarm" in your faith. We need the grace of God to keep us committed to Christ and His ways and His calling.
