This is Day 2 of Who Are You Beneath the Noise?, a meditation series spanning episodes 3599–3606.
Yesterday, we began by noticing what we've been carrying. Today, we use the breath to return our attention to the body and the present moment—not because uncertainty has disappeared, but because we don't have to leave ourselves while we move through it.
Today's theme is Ground.
The breath becomes an anchor—not something to control perfectly, but a steady experience we can notice as it comes and goes.
I am here. I can meet this moment one breath at a time.
🌿 Today's Meditation Focus In today's breathing meditation, you'll practice a gentle rhythm and notice how the breath connects you to the present.
You'll be invited to:
• feel your feet and the support beneath your body
• breathe in gently for a count of three
• allow the exhale to last for a count of four, if comfortable
• notice when your attention wanders and return to the next breath
• let go of the counting and rest with your natural breath
There is no need to breathe deeply or force a particular rhythm. If counting doesn't feel comfortable, simply notice your natural breath or the feeling of your feet on the ground.
✨ Today's Intention The intention is to return to yourself when uncertainty pulls your attention into the future.
As you breathe, silently repeat:
I am here.
This moment is enough to meet.
🧠 Modern Insight In a 12-week study, participants who practiced slow breathing reported reduced psychological stress. The researchers did not find that a longer exhale was more effective than an inhale and exhale of equal length, or that the practice changed the study's measure of physiological stress. Today's rhythm is offered as a gentle guide, not a special formula. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
🕉️ Ancient Wisdom The ancient Buddhist teaching on mindfulness of breathing begins with awareness: know when you are breathing in, and know when you are breathing out. The breath is not something to conquer. It is a way to bring attention back to the body and the moment you are living. suttacentral.net
🌙 Today's Practice During today's meditation, you'll:
• Arrive: Notice your feet and the places where your body is supported.
• Find a gentle rhythm: Breathe in for three counts and out for four, if that feels comfortable.
• Follow the breath: Let each exhale bring your awareness back toward your body.
• Return without judgment: When your thoughts move ahead, gently notice and come back to the next breath.
• Release the count: Rest with your natural breathing and notice the support beneath you.
💫 Today's Affirmations Repeat slowly:
• I am here.
• The ground is beneath me.
• I can meet this moment one breath at a time.
And finally:
I do not have to solve tomorrow to be present today.
📜 Wisdom for Today The breath does not make uncertainty disappear. It helps you notice where you are as you meet it.
💛 Daily Message for Your Heart Dear Friend,
When your mind rushes ahead, come back gently. Feel your feet. Notice one breath. You are still here, and you can meet this moment one breath at a time.
With care,
Mary
🌙 Sleep Softly Tonight Before sleep, feel the surface beneath you. Let your breath come and go naturally. You don't have to solve tomorrow tonight.
Complete This Week's Return to Yourself Challenge Set aside ten quiet minutes each day, away from your phone and the stream of outside voices. Write down:
What feels changed or uncertain?
What does my response tell me I care about?
Today, pause once during your day to feel your feet and notice one natural breath. At the end of the week, choose one small way to honor what matters to you.
Carry the Practice Forward When you notice yourself being pulled into the future:
• feel your feet on the ground
• notice one natural breath
• remind yourself, I am here
A single breath can be a small way to return to yourself.
