Sarah Mitchell shows how to differentiate a relation term by term without rearranging it, using the rule that a function of y differentiates to its y-derivative times dy/dx. She works the circle x² + y² = 25 to dy/dx = −x/y, handles the product-rule term xy, collects and factorises dy/dx, then finds a gradient at (1,2), a normal to an ellipse at (3,2), and the vertical tangents where the bracket vanishes.
