[SPEAKER_00]: Robots radio, games, lore, stories, community, just press play. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Fallout lore cast. [SPEAKER_00]: The podcast that explores the boundaries of our knowledge about the world of Fallout. [SPEAKER_00]: Wastelanders and Valtwellers, welcome back to the Fallout lorecast.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are following up with the second to last, the penultimate episode of season 1. [SPEAKER_00]: John isn't a penultimate enough. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, penultimate. [SPEAKER_01]: It's one of the words that I use and after I use it ago. [SPEAKER_01]: Did I use that correctly? [SPEAKER_00]: It's a great word.
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, episode 7, the radio, John's back with me. [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking through this episode and then we're gonna knock out this episode and then the next episode of the show will be episode eight of season one Which we're gonna try to get out before season two drops to get you right up to speed for right when the show comes out with season two So I'm so excited.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's coming up so soon, but John let's go back through the episode I've got all my notes ready. [SPEAKER_00]: You've got your notes. [SPEAKER_00]: How you doing? [SPEAKER_00]: You excited? [SPEAKER_01]: I am excited for Duryzon's one, this episode was awesome, and two, the last one recorded, I had a horrible chess code, and I don't have that anymore, so I'm really excited to be able to speak and not randomly have the drink water, so I don't choke on the front end of a microphone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and just in case you didn't know, maybe you're just tuning in for episode seven for some reason of season one. [SPEAKER_00]: Recap. [SPEAKER_00]: This is John from the Forty K. Larkas in history of Forty K. And also, my co-host on Retro Recall, which just dropped its second episode.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a bi-weekly show. [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about Mega Man 2, it's up on YouTube, it's up on audio. [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't correct it on that. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a fortnightly show because fortnight by weekly is biweekly can be it's annoying both once every two weeks or twice in one week.
[SPEAKER_01]: But fortnightly can only be every 14 days. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, and I noticed this in Google calendars actually changed it to semiweekly if it's two in a week. [SPEAKER_00]: And biweekly if it's ever loved. [SPEAKER_00]: So maybe Google knows something we don't. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't probably do.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, fortnight is not a phrase I like using, but I have to learn my poem by Warhammer shows. [SPEAKER_00]: when you're when you're wearing your banana costume and uh drop in news on the battlefield. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, let's get to Episode 7. [SPEAKER_00]: It's called the radio and there's a good reason it's called the radio.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the radio is a big part of Fallout games being played the radio while you're playing through the game, but also it features an actual radio station and we're going to get to that part because that part's awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: But here, let's we're going break down every scene and just pull out the stuff that we noticed and [SPEAKER_00]: John, like usual, I'm gonna just kind of recap each scene and then you chime in with stuff as you go.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it starts off with these desert looking Ranger guys, we're in New Vegas, and looking out fits, right? [SPEAKER_00]: But they're kind of living in their own little place. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's, that's an NCR helm. [SPEAKER_01]: That was a problem. [SPEAKER_01]: This thing opens and you get super excited.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a, the NCR is finally entered the game. [SPEAKER_01]: And now it's a dude just wear it and see our helmet. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, right. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the Rangers outfits and things like that. [SPEAKER_00]: Which means maybe they were NCR. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they currently are NCR.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they maybe they took stuff from a dead Ranger who knows. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but they've got their metal detectors. [SPEAKER_00]: They're clearly making a living by just scavenging stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: And we get the cool fall of music in the background at the beginning of this one.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get Erica strata. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was I was I was saying no Erica strata. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you and I've been talking retro games stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: We've been in this like 80's 90's mindset and I'm like holy crap. [SPEAKER_00]: Guy from chips. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the goal's there, he's eating his food. [SPEAKER_00]: The guy comes in, thinks he's eating his daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone seems to think Google's eat people, but he's not. [SPEAKER_01]: She's providing him food to be fair. [SPEAKER_01]: They do. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just this one doesn't.
[SPEAKER_00]: This one doesn't, right? [SPEAKER_00]: And not all of them do. [SPEAKER_00]: Mostly the fair ones that do. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not fair. [SPEAKER_00]: So when we know that, but maybe they don't have to realize if he's turned or not. [SPEAKER_00]: And his son shows up. [SPEAKER_00]: And we find out that there are two sons and the [SPEAKER_00]: And he had to put down Rufus, or the eldest is Rufus, that's the one he had to kill Tommy as the younger one.
[SPEAKER_00]: And basically he's just there to get some information. [SPEAKER_00]: He needs to find where Moldavers, right? [SPEAKER_00]: And so the situation plays out and they give up that information, but then the ghouls like, well, [SPEAKER_00]: you're going to come after me, so I have to kill you anyway.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is basically the resolution. [SPEAKER_01]: I like this scene because what you're getting a bit more of is it's kind of showing how long the goal has been a major player for a long time because the Erica Stratica director. [SPEAKER_01]: is just basically trying to believe because he knows they can't kill him right we'll slaughter all of them but of course the ghouls and this is what why the ghouls so important to me because he is this complex character and we'll cover more as we get especially in the last episode we're more and more about him but he is this kind of uh uh [SPEAKER_01]: tough read because he has morals, but he's also doesn't have them.
[SPEAKER_00]: He will learn what he needs to do to survive in the wasteland, and you could say it's heartless of him to kill the other son in that situation, but he also knows, no, if I don't kill him now, he will come after me and I will be dead. [SPEAKER_00]: So I have no choice. [SPEAKER_00]: I have right, but he's also kind of invincible.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean he does come across like he might be invincible, but I don't think he's officially invincible, he definitely can take a few bullets as we've seen him do. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So that scene plays out and it again reminds us that he is not the person used to be, but then we go back to the past.
[SPEAKER_00]: The next scene. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: We're at. [SPEAKER_00]: uh... mulled avers meeting and he's he's gone there with his buddy uh... she's talking to the audience and she's sipping her tea looking so wholesome this feels like a marketing move from her to come across as very approachable and and wholesome did you get the same vibe [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, I liked, but the idea here was, again, a lot of this is red scare that that's what the so much of the idea, the lead up to the bomb drop of fallout was McCarthyism and that type of thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: In 1912, he's afraid of communism stuff for anybody who doesn't live those terms. [SPEAKER_01]: I think what we get out of her is she's very calm, she's very relaxed, but more importantly she's very intelligent. [SPEAKER_01]: She's something that we do see a lot more and we look at movies about the red scare.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you watch Oppenheimer, if you watch those things, they talk about some of these communist meetings. [SPEAKER_01]: really not really communist meetings. [SPEAKER_01]: They were just like, hey, I kind of just want to have food. [SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, right, right. [SPEAKER_00]: And being labeled as something because it was against the current agenda or administration or whatever exactly because it's easier.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she has a couple really great lines in it talking about how yeah, like people can call us whatever they want, but if she's just the terms that are made out [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I have that line where she says, I'm not a communist Mr. Howard, that's just a dirty word they used to describe people who aren't insane, which I thought was genius, because it wraps up the scene.
[SPEAKER_00]: But she's talking about how the, you know, America's feature is headed off of a cliff. [SPEAKER_00]: It's coming up fast. [SPEAKER_00]: She explains to him, there's a few facts that could drop here. [SPEAKER_00]: Voltaque, at this point in time, is the largest corporation in the world? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: In the world, um, she knows his wife. [SPEAKER_00]: So we get that. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, we also find out that she worked for a company developing cold fusion until she was a company company. [SPEAKER_01]: So crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll take bought them all. [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which was funny because then he said, like, Oh, the platinum chip, which then we get revealed. [SPEAKER_01]: I know why for a suddenly. [SPEAKER_01]: the platinum chip and that was I was like oh yeah now I this what we're getting into now is it's our tying and new Vegas. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: The next two episodes. [SPEAKER_01]: Go. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Platinum Cheers. [SPEAKER_00]: A cold fusion that like the connections to house and then the meeting that comes up in a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: We get all that stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: But basically the big reveal here is that Valtek bought that means to end the resource wars and as she says put it on the shelf.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Basically, they have the power of cold fusion because moldaver and her team developed it, and they're like, we're not going to use it because we can make more money if we don't solve the resource wars. [UNKNOWN]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: which has always been kind of the question around the on-clave, vault tech and all this stuff is what is the real end game here?
[SPEAKER_01]: And we do actually kind of get to it. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Buds, Buds, Buds, Buds and a future scene and we get a sense of, okay, this is what vault tech is actually after is basically beating the competition using a game that they don't even know they're playing, which is waiting them out is the idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, doesn't make a ton of sense, but it's fine, we'll get into that later. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, I think we can get into it later, but I think you're right, it doesn't always, it doesn't make complete sense, but it also, you have a guy like bud, and he doesn't come across like he's all there, you know?
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a little overly friendly, he seems to have no qualms with anything, he seems to have almost not even have a moral compassy, like he's so happy go lucky that he's just kind of okay with whatever, and he thinks he's a genius, that's the way he kind of comes across, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and our next episode we'll get into what what becomes of bud.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, but this all ties together really well and it's very cool. [SPEAKER_00]: So it moves on. [SPEAKER_00]: We get the credit scene with like a that of bubbles, which makes sense because we're going back to vault four. [SPEAKER_00]: And Lucy is cuffed to the table.
[SPEAKER_00]: She needs to see the holiday. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like, she needs to see the holiday. [SPEAKER_00]: The whole of the over seeers. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this was hilarious. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the scientists were given control of vault 4 in order to have a vault run by scientists.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they try hybridizing humans with radioactive resistance species in order to see if they could make humans who could then go back out into the surface to repopulate the surface and not have to worry about radioactivity. [SPEAKER_00]: This turns them into gulpers and all sorts of other weird mutations and of course everything goes bad and their descendants are there now trying to solve the problem that was left to them by the vault and that's why they have these women in these containers is not because they're experimenting on them so much as they're just trying to figure out how to fix the problem that they have.
[SPEAKER_01]: had to undo them. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, undo the pieces. [SPEAKER_01]: And so that's when Lucy discovers that the vault that she thought was evil is actually the good one. [SPEAKER_01]: And there's a great line in this where they ask her, well, what's the experiment? [SPEAKER_01]: You're a vault.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: And she says there was none. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, we get this line. [SPEAKER_00]: He says, your ignorance cannot excuse your cruelty. [SPEAKER_00]: You must pay the price. [SPEAKER_00]: Which basically, it's a double, it's another double in Tundra.
[SPEAKER_00]: Your ignorance about the things that are happening here and your violence towards us cannot be excuse. [SPEAKER_00]: But also, your ignorance about what is actually going on in vaults and the fact that you're unaware that you're part of an experiment is also implied. [SPEAKER_01]: Right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is where my love of fallout really is not going to come out because this is the best part of thought is the reveal of what's really going on. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's being horrible places. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, this part's really great. [SPEAKER_01]: Then I, what I like to see is again, we get.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maximus is going to shift soon, but we still get kind of daulty Maximus. [SPEAKER_01]: They start dragging her back and she's screaming and all this up And so that's when he pops up. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's seeing his popcorn is his room Yeah, just couldn't be happier and he pops up to go save the day and their whole plan is to basically scold her [SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, and then they're like, yeah, and then kick her out and be like, well, yeah, and then he comes blasting in and power armor ready to tell a bunch of people and they're like, we were just going to ask you to leave right right and which is kind of the same mistake that she already made and now he's doing and now he's delayed and the idea is, but I'd like about this to really show you how bad the surfaces because that is kind of why the vault view people as the first well as I'm going back to like,
[SPEAKER_01]: Volt a fallout to with the vault city where the vault city didn't want to let anyone be a citizen unless you were from the Voltness because they didn't trust the surface to all this. [SPEAKER_01]: There was no way to get in there Unless you even with your 11th toe being cut off and then past things that I got to play that game so much On anyway [SPEAKER_00]: that ideology that ties directly back to vault tech and the things that the leadership and vault tech are saying about how the surface dwellers are going to and we get to that meeting later and I'll cover that but you can see that the messaging of surface dwellers being lesser than vault dwellers and anyone else is is there from the beginning before the bombs even drop.
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah so you basically recap the scene where they're like exiling her and they do the thing where they're going to cut like they're going to kill her but now [SPEAKER_00]: her yes, and then the real maximist comes in all that that'll see and we get a song in that scene only you can make this world seem right by the platters and again this is in this episode we get a real strong There really driving the idea that there is some sort of romantic connection between Lucy and Maximus [SPEAKER_00]: and in plays in the music, it plays in their glances at each other and all sorts of other stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Before that scene plays out, there's a quick little scene with fattiest at red rocket with dog meat and the head. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I've read that happen. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's right. [SPEAKER_00]: So, so, [SPEAKER_00]: So just going back to that real fast, the song that's playing there as he's dragging himself with his mutilated foot up to sit on the trunk of a car is 16 tons by Merl Travis, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: 16 tons and what do you get? [SPEAKER_00]: There's a line there says muscle and blood and skin and bone and then he pulls his foot out of his sock and it's like falling apart. [SPEAKER_00]: He stuffs the fusion core in his shirt, he hides his big pack in the car and he puts [SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I thought that was great because it really showed like how messed up as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, if heck, I've gotten splinters and limped harder than he did with the foot that was basically falling off. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't exist anymore. [UNKNOWN]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So okay, so we got that scene and then we have the whole Max should have shown try to save Lucy and now they're outside right and Lucy says you stole their fusion core The last few days then what give it back?
[SPEAKER_00]: Max replies I can help people with this armor. [SPEAKER_00]: You for example You can see that he's trying to make justifications for doing good things But also doing bad things in order to do good things. [SPEAKER_00]: He seems a little confused But really he's just justifying his want to have the armor to keep in safe [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to get weird here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go ahead and do go donkihote. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of I think whatever I have assumed is for someone believes that they're noble, well doing unknowable acts. [SPEAKER_01]: I always go back to donkihote because that's what this reminds me of. [SPEAKER_01]: He is delusional in who he really is primarily.
[SPEAKER_01]: He means Maximus does [SPEAKER_01]: At this stage, believe he's a knight. [SPEAKER_01]: He's a warrior in the power arm of fire. [SPEAKER_01]: He does, he's actually fallen into. [SPEAKER_01]: And when I say knight, I don't mean like the paladin of the brotherhood of steel. [SPEAKER_01]: He views him as like a knight.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am here to write the wrongs of the wasteland. [SPEAKER_01]: Then this may actually turn him to a much better character. [SPEAKER_01]: But in reality, he's just attacking windmills. [SPEAKER_01]: He still doesn't really know what he's doing or how he's doing. [SPEAKER_01]: And he's harming people in the process.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: He has some very deep needs that have not been addressed, but he's starting to see that there might be a better path forward because he's inspiring him. [SPEAKER_00]: I think you're right. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that he's going, okay, but I can do good things with this power.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm right. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's worth it. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's [SPEAKER_00]: I think this conversation shows the nuance of the dilemma of how difficult it is to pick the right thing to do sometimes, and she responds with this line, which I thought was super interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: If my dad found out I destroyed an entire community to save him, that brick is heart, which is super ironic, because that's basically the same thing that Hank did.
[SPEAKER_00]: In order to take care of the things that he want to take care of, and yet she has no idea thinking that he would never justify that, and will soon find out that he, in fact, would justify that for himself. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So, it's a great stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Suncho. [SPEAKER_01]: That's, so I've read Don Kyoto a lot, so it's one of the things where like, every time he does some of that, like, so now I'm like, yes, so in this scene, she's Suncho. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a whole idea is like, don't she's bringing it back to reality, like, oh, this is not who you really are.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a good I like this scene a lot because when the I like those two is that Lucy still thinks her father is the greatest being has ever lived right she looks up to him and she still despite what she just saw in the vault is still not doesn't doesn't realize the vaults are bad right and that to her she's [SPEAKER_01]: This is what I mean, the character arcs you're always great, but Lucy's character arc is still hasn't crested yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's realized the outside is terrible. [SPEAKER_01]: She realized that they've been lied to, though, because the bombs fell. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, she doesn't know she's been 200 years to things. [SPEAKER_01]: It's actually been less than that. [SPEAKER_00]: She's probably, well, he maximists thought it would be, has been less than that, but she's the one who said, what has happened in the last 200 years.
[SPEAKER_00]: So she has a sense of how long it has been, but is still very naive about why and how all of that we have about. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And so that's where her arc is a word of maximus is actually his arc is going the other way. [SPEAKER_01]: He's already now at this scene. [SPEAKER_01]: He's crested into the worst of himself.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now he's going to do it. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you kind of have this cross section of both of their paths coming together from different angles. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if you were to draw it on a map. [SPEAKER_00]: That's really cool. [SPEAKER_00]: We also get some lines here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have oysters in my vault says Lucy talking about like, you should come back to your vault. [SPEAKER_00]: All of that. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't have the best of luck when it comes to strangers, but you are the best stranger I ever ever met. [SPEAKER_00]: You are a good person Titus.
[SPEAKER_00]: Come live with us when this is over with me. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's when he admits, okay, looks, and I'm not, I'm not Titus. [SPEAKER_00]: This is my story, basically. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Lucy admits that the wasteland has made her do things she regrets. [SPEAKER_00]: has said in a man's face and she drops this little line here.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's been it's only been two weeks. [SPEAKER_00]: So now we know it's been two weeks since she left the vault. [SPEAKER_00]: This is not every every so every episode is not a day. [SPEAKER_00]: It's actually been 14 days. [SPEAKER_00]: And then we get the confirmation that Max says, okay, I want to come with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll go find the head, but I do want to come back to your vault with you. [SPEAKER_00]: And again, reconformation that not only does he [SPEAKER_00]: most beautiful person. [SPEAKER_00]: He's probably already ever met, you know, that kind of yes. [SPEAKER_00]: So we get that. [SPEAKER_00]: And then we go back to Thaddeus, he's limping.
[SPEAKER_00]: We find out it's fiddle week on the radio. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh God, the whole, everything about the radio is fantastic. [SPEAKER_01]: First off, yeah, that music's rough. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Second off, the announcement of no visitors. [SPEAKER_01]: Do not come here. [SPEAKER_01]: If you have an issue, send a postcard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Because that is, that's also comes up a lot in the fallouts. [SPEAKER_01]: When you're talking about, is it black mountain radio? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, black mountain radio. [SPEAKER_01]: There's been a I'd mostly go to fall out new Vegas. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or three dog in fall Three dog yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah dog, but the three dog will let you come in a bet. [SPEAKER_01]: I am a and new Vegas There's a lot of way it was was it Lucy who was the [SPEAKER_01]: And the Super Mutant got out was full. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, oh. [SPEAKER_00]: Names followed my head. [SPEAKER_00]: I hate it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's okay, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is why it was for everyone. [SPEAKER_01]: It's because whenever I played in the game, that was the station I was listening because I was just going to get a kick out of it. [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, but that is kind of an idea of it. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it was another station, different game, two words.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, don't come see me. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're not welcome here. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want you here. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just playing the music, leave me alone. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I mean, even to not fall out for. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: The guy made a station. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, yeah, and he has a whole character arc.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, we so we get the broadcast the chicken guy is almost killing himself. [SPEAKER_00]: He runs into that he has hey, I can help you. [SPEAKER_00]: Basically, it takes him back and they have this little little thing and why don't I shoot you right now, you don't know which one to take or how to use it and you need me to help you out.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he takes the whatever the bets are. [SPEAKER_01]: And I like this game because the way he crafted the meds reminded me of this is again more later Fallout games where you would craft your own supplies and it get a little bit over the top and fall out for Yeah guys at a certain point the amount of crafting I had to do got a little bit of no Sure boss, you know, your game was fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's hell, but that would be reminding you that if he's taking all these pieces and then making a homemade stem pack [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right, which is, is it his Tim Pack? [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't seem to be because... Well, it seemed that way. [SPEAKER_01]: It has a side effect later.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: The initial bit is pretty impressive. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, and so that's, this gets weird from that point on. [SPEAKER_00]: But we find out that he's looking for the radio tower. [SPEAKER_00]: It's near shady sands. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a radio active.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't need to worry about that anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: Says the chicken guy and he leaves. [SPEAKER_00]: Which makes us all go, that wasn't just a Tim Pack. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, something bad has just a very, very bad is just happening. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And he also gives him the fusion core.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Which he trains the fusion core. [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't come up, but I could see it coming up in a future episode. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we know that he's in season 2. [SPEAKER_00]: We showed up in the trailer. [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Is he an important character with a fusion core for something going on in season 2?
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe maybe this is a check-off's gun kind of thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that The mention of radiation here. [SPEAKER_00]: I think is the thing that makes it most possible that this is FV and Was the thing that I hooked on to before season season 2 and then oh, he is actually mutating He's got a little mouth in his neck or whatever else he hasn't shown us and so it this seems like there's FV in that injection Hmm, I could see that [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, you're right because we'll see later.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not cool stuff, later. [SPEAKER_01]: The huge amount of cool stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: It could have been cool stuff, but it's not. [SPEAKER_00]: So there's something else going on there. [SPEAKER_00]: So it seems more like this is some sort of weird random FVV sort of mutation. [SPEAKER_00]: People have talked about how it reminds them of a crap name swam away.
[SPEAKER_00]: The guy with the stick in his head. [SPEAKER_00]: Bob, well, the stick, Bob, the stick, Bob. [SPEAKER_00]: Bob's the stick, and names are hard. [SPEAKER_00]: So, fall out, guy with stick in his head. [SPEAKER_01]: What a true guy. [SPEAKER_00]: How old? [SPEAKER_00]: How old? [SPEAKER_00]: Harold.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I watched Stranger Things, the most recent season of Stranger Things, and then we went out to dinner, and I was like, and, you know, the guy who's the brother of the other guy, I'm like, I just watched it and can't remember the name. [SPEAKER_00]: Harold. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Harold. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, some people were like, well, maybe he's kind of like Harold, kind of like a one-off sort of thing. [SPEAKER_00]: That could be true, too. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: So, I guess we'll find out. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, so we get Vault 33 and back to Norm, the song that plays is what a difference a day made by Diana Washington, which plays into the scene because it's now been in whole other day.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everything has changed in the vault. [SPEAKER_00]: Norm's feeding the raiders. [SPEAKER_00]: Betty is sending out vault assignments. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, not yet. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's an announcement on the over thing that she's about to do so. [SPEAKER_01]: There we go. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then there's a line wherever you end up. [SPEAKER_00]: That's [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, it's a very good line because it's very full tech-esque. [SPEAKER_01]: I love like yeah everything happens for because that was always Involta is everything happens for a reason, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what you're doing control [SPEAKER_01]: It think back to fall out three when you're taking the exam, even the professors, it doesn't matter what you fill out. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to assign you to wherever we're going to do the test isn't that important. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we got a cool scene of, wait, is that a dead body? [SPEAKER_01]: And then, oh wait, is that a bunch of dead bodies? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what I'm at this, and it's becomes this, we don't really get answers to what happened. [SPEAKER_00]: But I think you like Betty, I'm pretty sure Betty kills them because they are a problem, and they don't need to be in the vault anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so she just gets rid of them, but then they drag off the girl who was like watching the door kind of guarding the cell. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, I never would have done that. [SPEAKER_00]: I believe her, you know, I think right. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it was more like a big norm.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's the thing, that's the norm, but what would norm have gained from killing them? [SPEAKER_00]: Betty, as the new overseer, now, but he's not, he's not malicious, but Betty has the new overseer wouldn't, would have to deal with them in some way. [SPEAKER_00]: If she left them, let them out to the surface, then they would be a problem because they could come back in greater numbers.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's really, and she knows they're never going to integrate into the vault. [SPEAKER_00]: So the only solution for her is kill them, just get rid of the problem. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying. [SPEAKER_01]: Chet and Steph. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Steph might have done it too because she was from about 31 and might be in Kuhutsu with Betty about what to do. [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think Chet knows what he's doing in any regard. [SPEAKER_01]: Chet has a good line coming up though. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll get that in a minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a very good line coming up. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway. [SPEAKER_01]: I like it. [SPEAKER_01]: They're all dead. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Betty gives Norm. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a line from her where she looks in goes. [SPEAKER_00]: What did I tell you Norman?
[SPEAKER_00]: Words have meaning. [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: So there's these undertones of like I had you made me do this like I didn't I didn't want to have to do this norm, but now I have to because view is kind of the tone of this and then people there's this other line people will be upset and Betty says people like to have something to fuss about.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, and that's when she hits the button to get everyone their assignments. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, and that's one of my favorite bits, because you see everyone all sudden just rushing around and you see them all celebrating, like some are excited to leave. [SPEAKER_01]: Others are thrilled to stay.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's all of those things. [SPEAKER_01]: And then you get the really great scene, which is norm, go eat it to go see shit. [SPEAKER_00]: Shetton's stuff, Stephanie's place. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Stephanie says, I'm holding the baby, so you have to pack everything to chess. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm busy holding a baby.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to do all the other work. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we get it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't want to jump ahead But we get a very good reveal on staff very next episode and what her real purpose is and all these things, but yeah I like this whole bit of that, but I love the line where Norm is talking to Chet Singh so she could but then nothing happened [SPEAKER_01]: And Chet just kind of like shrugs his shoulders, and Norm says to him, you know you're a coward, Chet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: And Chet comes back with, we all are. [SPEAKER_01]: We live in a vault. [SPEAKER_01]: Right, we all are Norm. [SPEAKER_01]: We live in a vault. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a great line. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's true. [SPEAKER_01]: And it implies that he also understands that they could go out to the surface, and they choose not to.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: I also think it sets norm up even more so to not be a coward is, and that's where we see the going. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the character arc is he's showing that he's not a coward. [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want to be like everyone else, and he never has wanted to be like everyone else.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's never felt like you fit fit in the vault at all, so why continue being a coward, and so he realizes that he's more capable, and these are all the steps along that path, right? [SPEAKER_00]: So we get back to the goal and he goes to red rocket. [SPEAKER_00]: He notices the blood on the ground.
[SPEAKER_00]: He tastes it, which makes me think that he knows the difference between the way human blood tastes. [SPEAKER_00]: And other creatures bloods taste because... Yeah, no idea. [SPEAKER_00]: He's doing the tracker thing that happens. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll be honest, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think it was that well fought out.
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought someone just like, what if he tasted to know what's going on? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what does that mean? [SPEAKER_01]: This is like a movie thing. [SPEAKER_00]: You see in movies and TV shows we're in like they're somebody's tracking somebody and they like taste the thing or like there's some sort of drug or something and they just take a little taste on their tongue and they're like, yep, that's just definitely the stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's like cool. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a great Reno 911 of that. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Keep taste. [SPEAKER_01]: They keep tasting the drug over and over again. [SPEAKER_01]: What is this? [SPEAKER_01]: Look, they keep going back and more. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, no, it's not cocaine.
[SPEAKER_01]: When they go back to fantasy, is it said weird stuff that was going on a week? [SPEAKER_01]: We go, no, not so that and all of a sudden they're both very high. [SPEAKER_00]: They're just like other minds. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That's good. [SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So you're at the goal. [SPEAKER_01]: I like to go to the goal does save the dog. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And pulls a dog. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, and then they just, but then we start getting in this episode in the next one. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's not GI Joe Transformer level cut the scene cuts.
[SPEAKER_01]: But we start getting those like, you know, very like the scenes are you get someone in the future to the past. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: back to the future. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, different characters where you're kind of getting that like it, and I like it because it gives you the feeling of, oh, something's happening.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're really getting to something big. [SPEAKER_01]: And so we get the quick cut now back to the past. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's at home with his wife's pit boy. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're like you said, they're threading these scenes together because they want to draw direct comparisons from one scene to the next.
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so the song on the radio is yeah, yeah, baby by cool pop a Jarvis. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that this one most of the songs that I've mentioned have something to do with like the mood of the scene or subtext in the lyrics or something like that. [SPEAKER_00]: This one I think is just setting.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just they just have the radio on song called the yeah, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, this is where you connects the listening device. [SPEAKER_00]: He puts the thing in his ear and then he throws it in the trash. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're like, oh, he's not going to do it. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is a typical movie.
[SPEAKER_00]: I will never do that thing, and then next time you see them, they're like, okay, I'll do the thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, same kind of thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Later that night he goes back out and he's watching himself on the TV vault tech ad, which I think is like the straw that breaks the camel's back.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's seeing himself objectively from the view point of the people that he just recently talked to. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's going, I do look like a lap dog for these people. [SPEAKER_00]: I should at least know if there's something shady going on. [SPEAKER_00]: I think is what's going through his mind here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was that was my vibe too of a he has that moment of or if not if not that just this moment of like hey something's off Like it's just off here. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, and we and we get a really good scene here that I like because He goes out to the trash and he searches to the trash and he finds it and he's sitting there with the dog with his dog Yes, and he just saved the other dog.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, at the red rocket. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes [SPEAKER_01]: And then we flip back to the future and sitting there with dog meat right on his lap He says I'm sorry, you're not sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: He got he calls the dog dog meat. [SPEAKER_00]: He says I'm sorry dog meat, but you ain't him Yeah, you ain't your dog meat is dog meat.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's fall out one [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yes, you bring it back. [SPEAKER_00]: All the dogs, yeah, ever since all of a sudden, all the dogs are dog meat. [SPEAKER_00]: And his dog back in the past is Roosevelt, which he keeps mentioning the name Roosevelt, which is interesting because Roosevelt is not an overly conservative president.
[SPEAKER_00]: He would have been a more liberal president who would have been associated back in those days with connections to what eventually people were living, living communism, and all of that, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So FDR, it definitely has a reason we got a lot of stuff about that. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, right, it all connects back and so you can even see in the way that he named his dog that his heart really isn't in the misinformation, it's in, you know, the liberal things that benefit the community and the people around him that are now being mislabeled as communist.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: Then we get to fatty us at the radio station KPSS. [SPEAKER_00]: And we have Fred Armeson, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Fred Armeson, which is a win for all of us when the Armeson pops out. [SPEAKER_00]: Another comedian showing up in the show with his wonderful role.
[SPEAKER_00]: And and on top of it Fred Armeson is known for doing this like music, snob kind of stick. [SPEAKER_00]: He did some of that on the internet. [SPEAKER_01]: And his mother stuff hard on it too. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: and he, uh, he is known for bringing up obscure, like punk bands or indie bands or whatever and talking about how, how they're so cool in certain ways, which is exactly what it's character doing with this terrible fiddle music.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was talking about, you can hear the high end and then the mid and all this stuff before that, you know, like, oh, yeah, that's the mid. [SPEAKER_01]: It has a great line yet, because there's, for our mistresses, just go and add them, like with just all these things about, yes, you believe some people don't like this music, they get really upset and that is like, yeah, I can't believe some people are just so uneducated in music, you know, whatever, but the conversation we've all had at some point, like, I don't know, when we were college [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and somebody's like, oh, man, this been so great because of this thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, yeah, yeah, they're the best. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're like, come to you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't like them. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like this. [SPEAKER_01]: It sounds bad to me, which means a lot coming from me, people who, let's know what my musical taste is.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not impressive. [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, yeah, then we get one of our favorite scenes where I forget exactly how they get to it, but like talk about the booby traps. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: So let me let me, I've got the details here. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me just go through [SPEAKER_00]: That he says good job with those booby traps, and then Lucy and Max miss approach.
[SPEAKER_00]: That he misses them with every shot. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's a clip. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I like the scene of the booby traps, they zoom out of the booby traps. [SPEAKER_01]: You can just see, I mean, that he's even congratulating somebody. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that one over there is pretty creative.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I mean, it's like people like heads are being cut off. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're everywhere. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's what they think. [SPEAKER_01]: I love this whole idea. [SPEAKER_01]: And for the arms, it's just kind of looking at this smile and like, yeah, they're pretty good, but also as in plastic, how did you get through them?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right, right, right, right. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, yeah, but now we're here. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this conversation, Lucy says we just want the head. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm the person who cut it off. [SPEAKER_00]: Fatty is then gets an arrow in the neck from one of the traps, but he doesn't die.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is another one of those strong pieces of evidence for the fact that that was not just a stimpack. [SPEAKER_00]: There's something else going on. [SPEAKER_00]: He said, even says, why am I not dead? [SPEAKER_00]: He told me pulls it out. [SPEAKER_00]: And then he heals up. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Maximus says, I think you might be a ghoul.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then Fadius has a great line of, I never should have trusted a doctor that smelled like that. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that lot. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that makes him wonder, like, I can't wait exactly to do these smell like, but okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then the vertebrates are incoming. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Fadius says this moment, he doesn't say it, but he, you get the sense that he realizes that he is now immune and he will never be accepted by the brotherhood. [SPEAKER_00]: They will kill him, and so he needs to go away. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, and they get a great line here too because the brotherhood's coming in and Lucy says this is a good thing right the brotherhood of the guys, right that is a maximize go Yeah, it's complicated It's a great line.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which is absolutely true. [SPEAKER_00]: Like yeah, they can be the good guys, but are they always the good guys? [SPEAKER_01]: And so yeah, the point that he is now runs away and leaves them with the head and we get kind of just this it's a fun scene I liked where Maximus and this is where the character arc now Maximus's arc is is as flipped he is now becoming the hero He went from being this adult who really kind of just couldn't get through stuff [SPEAKER_01]: Personally, I thought it was overplayed before I didn't really love the character he was early on in the show Right, I thought he just played it too far.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's me criticizing an actor, and I don't act so just maybe I'm just being a jerk For what I'm sorry, I mean, but everybody as a viewer has their own exactly like I don't sure. [SPEAKER_01]: I like this flip We get here because now we get this moment where he has realization of like Knowing they will kill Lucy, so I have to get her out of here, but if it they won't kill her if I have the head [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he picks up. [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_01]: The booby traps a random head. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: And begins bashing at the ground because he has to make it unrecognizable. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: Because the brotherhood also don't know what the person looking for looks like.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they got a print out. [SPEAKER_00]: They got a print out. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember this screen? [SPEAKER_00]: They printed out. [SPEAKER_00]: And it was very little resolution. [SPEAKER_00]: It was like asky printed on a screen onto a piece of paper. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like a dot matrix kind of thing, but I feel like there were letters and shapes in there that kind of, when you, you know, it's the kind of thing you hold far enough away and it starts to make a shape.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if it was different enough, they would have been like, this isn't the right head. [SPEAKER_00]: So, you had to rock, bash it in. [SPEAKER_00]: And then he says, go find your dad and they kiss, we get a kiss. [SPEAKER_01]: And there's scenes funny because they kiss and then there's a clip over the music is still playing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fred Armis opens the door and looks out in smiles like looking at people like kissing the his music. [SPEAKER_01]: Because he goes to your point of like the music snob like look, I've created lots of moments with my with my with my fiddles. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, my scratchy fiddles.
[SPEAKER_01]: song. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then it zooms lower because of their both holding at a separate head that two severed heads of all. [SPEAKER_01]: And I like this because it kept it kind of just can't be and silly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was painful and yet still totally part of the way that world is at the same time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the song that overlays on top of it that, you know, drowns out the fiddle music is you're everything by the Danleers. [SPEAKER_00]: which again is a roommate, you're everything, right? [SPEAKER_00]: You're everything to me. [SPEAKER_00]: And then she says, I'll wait for you in Vault 33, find me, and he says, I will.
[SPEAKER_00]: So everything about the end of the scene is there to tell us that there is a romantic connection, and they want to find each other again, but they have to part ways. [SPEAKER_00]: And so this is it. [SPEAKER_00]: And maybe they'll never see each other again, but maybe they never will. [SPEAKER_00]: So it becomes this, you know, important scene.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then we're back to Vault 33 and Betty sang goodbye to those leaving for Vault 32. [SPEAKER_00]: Just giving them kind of this pep talk, right? [SPEAKER_00]: And Zax says he's not going. [SPEAKER_00]: He tries to get out of it and then he's stopped by the guards and he immediately just gives up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nice, like, okay, I don't know what I was thinking. [SPEAKER_00]: Because again, showing us that like these people are cowards, they don't really have morals that they stand up for, as soon as they start to do something, any amount of friction and they just give up. [SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Betty confirms with the high council that Stephanie is now interim overseer of 32. [SPEAKER_00]: Notice the mention of the high council. [SPEAKER_00]: That hasn't been mentioned yet on the show. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think we are too believe that that is the management involved 31 who is the high council.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably just she talked to bud. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That was worse. [SPEAKER_01]: You just made the decision yourself with Stephanie, which we get more with you on her in the next episode. [SPEAKER_01]: But you know, Stephanie's got the new overseas.
[SPEAKER_01]: So now we have two overseas. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, both from Vault 31, the Stephanie's going to be 32, for 32, Betty's going to be for 33. [SPEAKER_00]: And then there's song in the play. [SPEAKER_00]: It's from the first hello to the last goodbye by Jane Morgan, because they're all leaving for the vault, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: everyone has everything they own. [SPEAKER_00]: This is one of my little notes here that I know is in a small box. [SPEAKER_00]: Most of the stuff in the vault is not anybody specific stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: The things anyone owns can fit in one little box that they can carry into the other vault.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which is interesting, right? [SPEAKER_00]: They don't really have the autonomy they seem to think they have. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, no, because you're living, you're in a living pod. [SPEAKER_01]: And so you're assigned a living pod. [SPEAKER_01]: And the living pod gives you everything that you could need.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And so, but then we get Norm's step and up. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Norm leaves before everything's over. [SPEAKER_00]: And the scene pans out as a chat holding a baby looks very unsure as the door closes. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Chad looks defeated.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's the whole point of this. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the chat and chat and stuff are together. [SPEAKER_01]: And you can see he is not happy with this situation. [SPEAKER_00]: No, Andy's holding the baby, which is the thing that she said she was going to do. [SPEAKER_00]: So he could do everything else.
[SPEAKER_00]: And now the baby's back in his arms. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, but now that you're not doing anything, you hold the baby, which just shows that she's in complete control of the situation. [SPEAKER_01]: Everything. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we get a great moment where Norm has to go hack.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so Norm walks through the vault. [SPEAKER_00]: He goes to the overseers office. [SPEAKER_00]: He turns on the computer. [SPEAKER_00]: He uses the Sis admin bypass and then we get the typical, you know, fallout hacking puzzle. [SPEAKER_00]: The thing all of us have done a thousand times.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: The solution is dubbed D-U-B-B-E-D. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure that's intentional, but I'm not 100% sure why that was the word they picked. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, maybe because if you turned dubbed, like, do you be around it becomes budd?
[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, but then she's a send messenger message to oversee a 31. [SPEAKER_00]: This chat window opens. [SPEAKER_00]: He says, I need to return to 31. [SPEAKER_00]: Are you compromised? [SPEAKER_00]: Mission not going as planned. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Return to 30. [SPEAKER_01]: I can tell you why. [SPEAKER_01]: I do look up real quick. [SPEAKER_01]: So dubbed also can mean to give a nickname to something. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so, right, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it [SPEAKER_01]: And then it pans out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, that's the end of the scene. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, this we're getting obviously we need the second last episode should be good. [SPEAKER_00]: We've all seen TV shows whether or not it happens, but yeah, typically there is setup episode right there there are a set up for the climax and we need to make sure all the pieces are in the right place so that the climax can go off and we can put all finally put all the pieces together and go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's the puzzle. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing I was trying to figure out. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think the episode did a great job. [SPEAKER_00]: Did you think so? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: What I felt the episode, all of us in a lot of, we knew at the end all the loose ends were going to come back together again.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now they're not all the way there, but we're seeing the overlap. [SPEAKER_01]: All the characters now seem to have some semblance of similarity. [SPEAKER_01]: And so we know they're all going to be kind of coming near each other. [SPEAKER_01]: And then, at the same time, we also have the norm bit where we're going to get a big reveal.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we know because norm obviously, it's pretty obvious Lucy's not going back to the vault, like, ever since any of us who've ever played Fallout, you don't do that. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so, you know, you do, and then you get kicked out again, or you do, and then it's like, vault 101, and then everything's terrible, or, you know, like, you can't, but you can't, to your point, you can't go back to the same vaults.
[SPEAKER_01]: that would let you back in and accept you as things were before you left and that's why like the norm character is giving us a way to actually get a ton of intel into the vaults without having to be oh and also Lucy's learning this stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: So I really liked that piece. [SPEAKER_01]: I did like the the the the the the whole concept of make her learning this more and more but how terrible the world is.
[SPEAKER_01]: and we are starting to get a better version of who the goal is and what his purpose is. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, right. [SPEAKER_00]: I also like the your points about Lucy and Maximus kind of on these journeys towards each other. [SPEAKER_00]: One coming from a place of what she thought was morality and truth realizing that that wasn't the truth, but still trying to understand how morality works in the wasteland.
[SPEAKER_00]: The other Maximus coming from a place of [SPEAKER_00]: basically just being stranded and having no moral compass and realizing that a moral compass is a potential thing and then it might lead to a better life for him or at least people he cares about. [SPEAKER_00]: And that juxtaposition, both of their characteristics are kind of convening here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that I think is really smart and it makes you wonder what is the the person who's we haven't seen the most character development for yet is the Google. [SPEAKER_00]: We know that there's character there there's past character development right there's Cooper. [SPEAKER_00]: in the past moving towards eventually being the goal because he's now stuck in the wasteland for 200 years.
[SPEAKER_00]: But who the goal then becomes from this point forward is left very vague. [SPEAKER_00]: We get little glimpses of like, okay, there's still some humanity in him because he still takes care of the dog. [SPEAKER_00]: He saves the dog a second time. [SPEAKER_00]: And then there's some connection there to Lucy and what actually is going on and all of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: But we don't see a whole lot of movement for his morality arc in the season. [SPEAKER_01]: Not at all. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what makes him kind of a cool character. [SPEAKER_01]: forth because he's still the mystery. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going into the, we're going to the end.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's still the mystery. [SPEAKER_01]: We, we understand Lucy's got her purpose. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, obviously there's some stuff changes, but he's the one we're going, what is it, effectively is he the antagonist? [SPEAKER_01]: Is he the pro antagonist? [SPEAKER_01]: He's not an NPC.
[SPEAKER_01]: So where does he fit inside of a story arc? [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's a big question on him. [SPEAKER_01]: And we still, that's the piece that kind of leave more to the final episode [SPEAKER_00]: And in D&D terms, he's kind of the chaotic neutral character. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're waiting to see what, you know, like that moreality grid, we're waiting to see like what direction does he move on the grid?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because as with any story and I think this is something, sometimes I bring the stuff up and people are like, are you sure that's the thing? [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, have you just watch any movie, watch any TV show, read any book? [SPEAKER_00]: There is no character and no major character in any of those books, that starts in one place and doesn't end up in a different place by the end of the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: or at least go down to some journey and then returns back to where they were. [SPEAKER_00]: There's always some sort of character progress. [SPEAKER_01]: And you're going to take your nine square, you know, I can't bring both the indie kids, so let's just deal with it. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the fact of the matter is that what happened is any good story you're going to move them around a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, some cases, like the case, the goal, we think this is, I thought, lawful evil chaotic evil. [SPEAKER_01]: Then we start [SPEAKER_01]: Potentially into a chaotic good because that tends to be how they mean it's it's the way that those in good writing the way that those types of setups work.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have your one-linest chaotic, your one-line is neutral, your one-line is lawful, then you have good neutral neutral and then evil in time. [SPEAKER_01]: And people tend to move within some sort of linear pattern. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm straight up and down horizontal or diagonal. [SPEAKER_01]: The diagonal ones are a little bit weirder when they do and that's what we're [SPEAKER_01]: You're seeing someone, you know, you're seeing in the case of Maximus light your selfish.
[SPEAKER_01]: So really the true neutral is right where he was borderline on to on to again like chaotic neutral. [SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't evil, but it's neutral neutral. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's pretty accurate. [SPEAKER_00]: I think you know that with that, when he's flirting with moving up to good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know if that's where he will end up in the end. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Lucy is lawful neutral to start and then over the course of it starts moving. [SPEAKER_01]: She stays within, sorry, lawful good to start. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and she stays within good, but she moves over to neutral good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, quite chaotic, but she's definitely into neutral good by that. [SPEAKER_01]: That's my biggest she has. [SPEAKER_01]: She threw acid in someone's face, right? [SPEAKER_01]: He's murdering people. [SPEAKER_01]: She is doing these, these types of things. [SPEAKER_01]: The goal, like I said, is the opposite.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is a true evil character who's now because we're getting his backstory is moving up a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: right in the intro he seems like he's chaotic evil very much so and the story is now progressing him more into the chaotic neutral range where he ends up we still know yeah I mean it will cover maybe more in the net week or next episode and then you also still have Maldiver [SPEAKER_01]: who we again is this lawful evil now that we see the flashback and again if she flips up it's actually more lawful but did she even lawful good and then of course Lucy's father who will get later and all the characters falling to these little boats and that's why I like it a lot
[SPEAKER_00]: and they move around and and somebody's gonna write me be like, well, what about characters who just always just stay in the same slot. [SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't happen, but there are often the part of their journey is the temptation to change and then they resist the change. [SPEAKER_00]: So like a truly lawful good character may start a lawful good at the beginning of the story and then end a lawful good.
[SPEAKER_00]: But their arc is that they will come across some significant temptation and they will have to deal with that. [SPEAKER_00]: And so it's part of moving around. [SPEAKER_01]: In my, I would, I would, my, my human is that usually the characters who don't change are usually side characters who are there to either guide or tempt rating characters right going to have a chaotic evil character or level whose jobs are trying to bring that the lawful neutral down into neutral neutral or lawful neutral right or it's a, or they're, they're an ultimate like positive character trying to always uplift everyone.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: They're usually not a POV character and in some cases they are the villain who is just always going to be Lothally role or chaotic evil or something like that. [SPEAKER_00]: The Joker. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't really have a character or he's just who he is and other characters have to have to then deal with him around that and he's the force that causes the other characters to [SPEAKER_00]: deal with their own morality issues, and so that's the way that that kind of lays out.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there you go, I would just kind of fun talk about this kind of stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we're to deal with each other, but I can't help it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, no, I'm the one who brought up the grid, so that's my fault. [SPEAKER_00]: But John, thank you for for knocking this episode out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Me and going back through this again, this has been super fun. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got one more episode to go through, and then we got season two, so stay tuned for that.
