[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Fallout lorecast. [SPEAKER_01]: The podcast that explores the boundaries of our knowledge about the world of Fallout. [SPEAKER_00]: One thing I can tell you is stay the hell away from the Dunwich building to the south. [SPEAKER_00]: That place is bad, Mojo. [SPEAKER_01]: We've spoken in and around the Dunwitch building the company and it's, well, lovecraftian horrors for years, but I've never taken a closer look and pulled all the details I could together centered around specifically the Dunwitch borer company, until this episode, because we're continuing through our iceberg and the very next entry on this iceberg list is about the Dunwitch borer company.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, let's get right into it because I'm going to be pulling details from two main fallout games, fallout three, fallout four, fallout three's DLC, point look out, and the prema guide and some other sources along with covering everything I could find in HP Love Crafts works that gets referenced in fallout, all the different connections we're going to go over all of it today.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I hope you're on board for this and it's the perfect time I think to do [SPEAKER_01]: One of the creepiest things that we come across and fall out. [SPEAKER_01]: So here, let's get into it. [SPEAKER_01]: So as usual, I will start with the summary from the iceberg that I've pulled. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a big, long list of all the different entries.
[SPEAKER_01]: And each of these two their own credit is just a very short snippet. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the way a lot of these iceberg lists go. [SPEAKER_01]: They don't spend half an hour going into each one. [SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, if somebody made a video about this, it would take days to get through.
[SPEAKER_01]: But here, let's see what they say. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we're going to build upon it, adjust some of the details a little bit based on some facts. [SPEAKER_01]: And then see where it goes. [SPEAKER_01]: The Dunwich Borer Company, Dunwich Borer's LLC, was a pre-war mining company that operated primarily in the DC New England area.
[SPEAKER_01]: In Fallout lore, they're heavily associated with concepts of eldritch horror. [SPEAKER_01]: In fact, their name is even a reference to the HP Lovecraft book, The Dunwich Horror. [SPEAKER_01]: The two areas associated with the company that done which building and done which borers, both have strange phenomena associated with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: In both places, the player experiences hallucinations of pre-war events and finds strange altars of worship. [SPEAKER_01]: Both areas are also crawling with ghouls, which may be due to something that will show up way later down the iceberg, which we're going to talk a little bit about this time.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to wait for that. [SPEAKER_01]: That's basically the very bottom of the iceberg, but we'll get down to it at some point, but we'll probably cover most of the details here today. [SPEAKER_01]: Regardless, the done-which areas are known in Fallout as being places where the devs decided to lean into some more horror aspects.
[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, so you may have caught some details in there if you're somebody who's already familiar with a lot of what goes on with the done-which buildings and you've played through these sections of the game before. [SPEAKER_01]: That could use some tweaking. [SPEAKER_01]: There are a few little corrections we'll note as we go.
[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a whole lot of other stuff going on underneath the surface. [SPEAKER_01]: We think into the ground. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my jokes are the best. [SPEAKER_01]: But here, let's get into it. [SPEAKER_01]: So the iceberg calls the Dunwich Company a mining company. [SPEAKER_01]: But more specifically, they're working on rock drills for tunneling.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do have a query as well. [SPEAKER_01]: But according to the tabletop version of the game, this is where they test out the drills. [SPEAKER_01]: and then things became more than just testing drills as we'll get to. [SPEAKER_01]: If we start at the actual done which building in Fallout 3, we find rock drills for tunneling and we find a memo dated October 18th, 277, five days before the bomb struck.
[SPEAKER_01]: and it brags about their acoustic board rules, which were setting a new standard in excavation. [SPEAKER_01]: The location in Fallout 4 is a marble query, and according to the tabletop role-playing game, the information coincides and says that the company is based in Washington, DC, just like in Fallout 3, so no contradictions there.
[SPEAKER_01]: But there is a correction for the book that is referenced from Lovecraft. [SPEAKER_01]: In the iceberg, it says the Dunwich Horror is a book, but actually, [SPEAKER_01]: weird tales dated April 1929. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a story as of this recording that's almost 100 years old, but we'll get back to it a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: The iceberg also notes that when you visit both locations the marble query in Fallout 4 and the done which building in Fallout 3 that you have hallucinations, but they're a little bit different from each other. [SPEAKER_01]: In Fallout 3, when you go in the Dunwich building, and then you go into the first door into the Dunwich ruins, the deeper part of the building.
[SPEAKER_01]: You see a man standing there. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a vision, and then all of a sudden that man is replaced by a glowing one. [SPEAKER_01]: So right off the bat, you're questioning your sanity. [SPEAKER_01]: What is it that I'm seeing here? [SPEAKER_01]: And as you continue into the building, other mysterious things happen as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's like self-opening doors. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a falling coffee pot at one point. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like a haunted house kind of thing going on there. [SPEAKER_01]: But in Fallout 4, when you go to the Marblequery, you probably remember that this is very different. [SPEAKER_01]: The first vision just shows workers on the job before the war.
[SPEAKER_01]: But deeper in, past station 4, you get the big one. [SPEAKER_01]: Candles, lining a passage, and a whole group of people. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a man in religious clothes, like a pastor, like a robes of some sort. [SPEAKER_01]: He's at what looks like a pulpit. [SPEAKER_01]: He makes some cutting motions with a knife, and there are nine other people in pre-war clothes kneeling around him.
[SPEAKER_01]: and then the room shakes. [SPEAKER_01]: So yes, they're both visions and they're both mysterious, but they happen in very different kinds of ways. [SPEAKER_01]: Both locations also have alters, so the iceberg is correct about that. [SPEAKER_01]: In Fallout 3, there's an obelisk at the very bottom of the building, and in Fallout 4, you dive under the water, past a giant silver face, and the pulpit from the vision, and in the chamber beyond that is an altar with a machete called crem viz tooth.
[SPEAKER_01]: But those aren't the only altars that are related to old gods and creepy old bloodcrafting stuff, because there is one in point look out as well, which we're going to wrap into all of this in a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: And there is a creepy reference in Fallout 76 as well. [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of similar to some of the stuff going on here, but it isn't as strongly related as what we'll focus on most of this episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the detail about the ghouls is correct as well. [SPEAKER_01]: In the Dunwich Building, you find these writings, these journals by Jamie, the character who, you discover, has been goalified at the bottom of the building, which I'm sure we all remember. [SPEAKER_01]: And at the bottom of the Marblequery in Fallout 4, there are four ghouls who seem to be the project managers for the company.
[SPEAKER_01]: So all of that stuff checks out. [SPEAKER_01]: So for the most part, the iceberg entry is accurate. [SPEAKER_01]: There are a few little corrections, but for the most part, it's correct, but there's definitely more to get to. [SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about the Dunwich horror, the story from Lovecraft.
[SPEAKER_01]: Clearly, they're pulling the name Dunwich into Fallout here, but what else is going on in that story? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, done, which in Lovecraft's story is a fictional backwards town. [SPEAKER_01]: It's out in North Central Massachusetts, kind of out in the wilderness. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's in a similar area being in the northwest, with both the Commonwealth and the DC area.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Lovecraft describes the locals as, quote, repellently decadent. [SPEAKER_01]: and they have very clear signs of inbreeding, and the family everyone avoids is named the Watley's. [SPEAKER_01]: Twice a year, they light fires up on Sentinel Hill around an old altar. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like a stone that's surrounded by bones and stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lavenia, Watley, has a sun named Wilbur. [SPEAKER_01]: And this is where it gets really interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: The Watley's own copy of the Necronomicon. [SPEAKER_01]: And if you know anything about Lovecraft lore, the Necronomicon is like the scary evil book. [SPEAKER_01]: It shows up in all sorts of things.
[SPEAKER_01]: You see it in the evil dead movies, for example, where you see variations of this spooky book, in a lot of fantasy and video games and stuff like that. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, the Necronomicon comes from Lovecraft. [SPEAKER_01]: The version in the story is a translation by a character named Dr. D, [SPEAKER_01]: but it's an incomplete version of the book.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wilbur needs one specific formula with the name Yag Sathoth in it, and it's on page 751, which his copy doesn't have, because it's incomplete. [SPEAKER_01]: So, he goes to the library at Mass Catonic University and into the Latin section, and there's a librarian there named Dr. Henry Armatage and he won't let him take out the book.
[SPEAKER_01]: So on this way, Wilbur says, maybe Harvard won't be so fussy as you be. [SPEAKER_01]: In some sort of rural accent, I'm not sure I'm doing that correctly. [SPEAKER_01]: Later on, Wilbur breaks into steal the book and he's [SPEAKER_01]: Long story short, Armatage figures out what's going on, what he was looking for in the book, and he uses that information to stop the wattlies from using that information to do the evil stuff they were going to do with the book.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the specifics aren't super important here. [SPEAKER_01]: The idea here is that these ideas show up in fallout. [SPEAKER_01]: So when we think about point look out, this is where the connection is. [SPEAKER_01]: Remember, Obadiah Blackhall, he's the last old rich guy. [SPEAKER_01]: His family has a bad reputation.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's living out in the swamp. [SPEAKER_01]: The swamp has all of these mutated in bread locals running around. [SPEAKER_01]: So we can start to piece together the false version of this by looking at Marcelo's terminal entry. [SPEAKER_01]: It tells us that a recent ancestor of Obadiah's constant Blackhall got hold of a book called the Krivbekni.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the stand-in for the Necronomicon in Fallout. [SPEAKER_01]: We learned that the Swamp people stole it from the Black Hall family, Obadiya wants to get the book back, and Marcella wants to destroy it. [SPEAKER_01]: She knows it's bad. [SPEAKER_01]: So if we trace back the steps, the Dunwich story that inspired the Dunwich buildings includes a Necronomicon, an evil book, and the evil book is used or tries to be used for [SPEAKER_01]: And we see a very similar evil book show up in point look out with another ancient family and a bunch of in bread people out in the sticks living out in the swamps.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you can see the parallels are very clear. [SPEAKER_01]: But there's more than just that. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you remember, if you give Obadiah the book, he says something interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: He says, [SPEAKER_01]: Ugg Qualtoth. [SPEAKER_01]: This is the fallout stand-in for Yug Sethoth.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ancient god mentioned in Lovecraft's story. [SPEAKER_01]: And in his story, they're trying to summon this ancient god into the world. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the dark mysterious evil things that the Wattley family was up to. [SPEAKER_01]: And you can see the parallel here with the black walls.
[SPEAKER_01]: This goes even deeper if we look at the prima guide for point look out. [SPEAKER_01]: This is the Fallout 3 strategy guide, the game of the year edition. [SPEAKER_01]: It says this on page 640 when discussing the done which building. [SPEAKER_01]: Qualtoth knows the gate. [SPEAKER_01]: Ag Qualtoth is the gate.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ag Qualtoth is the key and the guardian of the gate. [SPEAKER_01]: Now this is almost a direct word for word quote from a passage from the Necronomicon that Lovecraft specifically quotes in the Dunwich Horror Story. [SPEAKER_01]: Yugsothoth knows the gate. [SPEAKER_01]: Yugsothoth is the gate.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yugsothoth is the key and the guardian of the gate. [SPEAKER_01]: Word for word is the same just replacing the name of the ancient god. [SPEAKER_01]: So let's bring this to the obelisks when you press the Kriv Beckna against an obelisk to destroy it, the game gives you this message, quote, the obelisk shares its origin with the Kriv Beckna, just being near it makes you uneasy.
[SPEAKER_01]: absolutely linking those two things, right? [SPEAKER_01]: And then if we go back to the guide, it says, only the screaming sound of egg qualtoth can wield the book's power. [SPEAKER_01]: So the book and the obelisk come from the exact same place. [SPEAKER_01]: And if we go back again to Lovecraft's story, the Wattles have their fires enchanting at an old altar-like stone at the top of Sentinel Hill.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in Fallout, we have rituals and madness around the obelisks and the swamp folks, blood, altar and point lookout, and it gets even more interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: If we look at the cut files from Fallout 3, we find a bloody sketch from the Dunwich building which shows some kind of entity wrapped around an obelisk.
[SPEAKER_01]: was this the actual summoning of an ancient god in the extra files that never really got worked into the game? [SPEAKER_01]: Like what's going on here, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Why did they prepare this? [SPEAKER_01]: And what does it actually mean? [SPEAKER_01]: So there are some mysteries that remain about this, but here let's talk a little bit more about the necronomicon and the crib back in it because there are some other similarities there and the story of the necronomicon is really interesting if you don't know about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So [SPEAKER_01]: Most of you have probably heard about this before. [SPEAKER_01]: You also know that the Neckronomicon isn't a real book, it's something that Lovecraft invented. [SPEAKER_01]: The first time it's mentioned is in his story The Hound from 1924. [SPEAKER_01]: It's called The Forbidden Neckronomicon, and it also mentions the Mad Arab Abdul Azarid.
[SPEAKER_01]: Azarid shows up even earlier than that in the story, the Nameless City from 1921, which is where the famous, like, quote, you've probably heard this before. [SPEAKER_01]: It comes from quote, that is not dead, which can eternal lie and with strange aions, even death may die. [SPEAKER_01]: You've probably heard something about even death may die before.
[SPEAKER_01]: This gets echoed a lot in fiction and even comic books. [SPEAKER_01]: I think you stuff like this. [SPEAKER_01]: So anything that's been influenced by Lovecraft is probably used at death may die [SPEAKER_01]: Now, there's a story here that the inspiration for this goes all the way back to his childhood when he was about five years old, and that's when he first discovered the Arabian knights.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the thought is that this has a connection to the name Abdul Azharad, this Middle Eastern type of name for a character from a mysterious ancient foreign land, that type of thing. [SPEAKER_01]: So remember Jamie, the guy who descends into the Dunwich Building, his journal starts with him following his father, and he had south and according to some traders was still carrying a book.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jamie finds his dad at the Dunwich Building turned into a ghoul, world turning into a ghoul actually in the stage of doing that, and he takes the book. [SPEAKER_01]: By the ninth and last entry in his journal, Jamie has totally lost it. [SPEAKER_01]: He writes, Abdull comes again on the Feast of the Weaker, and his last words are, Al Hazarid with two Z's instead of one like Lovecraft's, Geeth Geeth, and G apostrophe YETH.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the writers here seem to be using exactly the same name from Lovecraft's work with just a slight change to the spelling. [SPEAKER_01]: Directly next to an obelisk, which is connected to an ancient evil book, and somebody going mad. [SPEAKER_01]: Perfect parallels. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, we're never told exactly what book his father was carrying.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's tempting to say it was the Krivbecknik. [SPEAKER_01]: But that one is sitting in the swamp folks' ritual cave and point, look out around the same time as far as we can tell. [SPEAKER_01]: So if it was that, it means there's more than one copy out there, which is pretty creepy, but there's really not a whole lot of proof for that one where the other, as far as I can tell.
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's even more about the Neckronomicon. [SPEAKER_01]: In 1927, Lovecraft wrote a short fake history of the book, [SPEAKER_01]: So he could keep referencing it. [SPEAKER_01]: It became kind of his own internal canon to keep the details straight as he used it in more and more stories.
[SPEAKER_01]: He eventually was published after he died. [SPEAKER_01]: In it, Elzard writes the book around 730 AD in Damascus under the title, who uses a different name, Al Azif, or Azif, maybe. [SPEAKER_01]: Church authorities burn the book in 1050, and the Pope bans it outright in 1232, which is very believable because it's the kind of thing that happened to a lot of books that were not Christian in the ways that the Church believed were Christian at the time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even things that were today, we'd look at and go, well that's not so bad. [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of that stuff got censored in the books were burned. [SPEAKER_01]: But even though there was a book burning, there were copies that survived, some of them got locked up in libraries, including the one at Miss Katonic from the story and Harvard's widener library over in Cambridge right next to Boston.
[SPEAKER_01]: So another connection to Massachusetts directly there in the Boston area, just like Fallout 4. [SPEAKER_01]: And, Elzarrid, we know how he dies, supposedly he gets attacked by an invisible monster in like the middle of the day, and is eaten in front of a crowd, which I'm sure looked ridiculous because the monster was invisible.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now one of the other cool things about the Necronomicon is that even during Lovecraft's life, some of his other contemporary writers, liked the idea so much that they started working it into their own works. [SPEAKER_01]: And because of that, it created this, well, let's see to this idea, I guess you could say, in the populace, that they may all be referencing something that was actually real.
[SPEAKER_01]: That maybe there is this ancient book called something like the Necronomicon, and it did exist in the world somewhere, and all of these authors were pulling on factual information about that. [SPEAKER_01]: The same way that an author would pull on, I don't know, something out of an old myth, or an old religious story, or ancient Egypt, and the pyramids, and those kinds of details, [SPEAKER_01]: Now you go back 100 years and that makes sense because most of the readers had no means of confirming that something like that data didn't exist, the way the authors said.
[SPEAKER_01]: Today you can look up a Wikipedia article or just do search online and you can find if certain actual books really exist anywhere if we have any actual proof of any of that, but back then you couldn't do that. [SPEAKER_01]: So you can see simply by the proof that so many people grabbed onto this idea and decided to use it that it was something that resonated with people.
[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds really cool. [SPEAKER_01]: It's almost an antithesis to the Bible kind of thing. [SPEAKER_01]: You have a holy book on one end. [SPEAKER_01]: That's about God and Jesus and salvation and all of that. [SPEAKER_01]: And then you have another book that's evil and it's something of the devil.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, God and Satan. [SPEAKER_01]: counterparts doalities. [SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of thing. [SPEAKER_01]: So let's head back to the query from Fallout 4 because there's some other cool parallels here. [SPEAKER_01]: And some more information we get from the tabletop game and these like secondary sources.
[SPEAKER_01]: And remember just because something shows up in the tabletop game doesn't mean it's necessarily canon. [SPEAKER_01]: But if it coincides with a lot of the themes and ideas, there's no problem with discussing it. [SPEAKER_01]: It just didn't show up in the game. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you're somebody who's [SPEAKER_01]: then technically that's not the case.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll do video games specifically. [SPEAKER_01]: But if you are somebody who looks at say the guides and the tabletop and say, okay, well, this is still officially Bethesda sanctioned resources, then maybe it is canon. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll leave that up to you. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's at least worth discussing the information.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's head back to the query and you find a terminal that shows that the company keeps losing workers to [SPEAKER_01]: all sorts of accidents and failures and things like that and they decide to try to make the workers happier and okay with things with happy hours and picnics and that kind of stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can see in one of the holotapes that the management was ordered to station four and it's just past station four where you get the vision of the ritual and it's those four managers who are summoned to this location that you can find as ghouls down there. [SPEAKER_01]: Now the tabletop addresses this a little bit by calling the idea that there is an ancient temple to dark gods under this location where people have practiced human sacrifice as quote a persistent but likely ridiculous rumor this feels like the HR part of the company trying to make people feel okay about the fact that they might be working on a ritual murder site.
[SPEAKER_01]: But in actuality, it feels like maybe the company itself was behind the ritual sacrifices and that they were intentional because they had been corrupted by the evil underneath the query. [SPEAKER_01]: In Fallout 76, we get a note that seems like it might be related. [SPEAKER_01]: You can find it in Atlantic City next to a skeleton and a sleeping bag.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it says this, quote, urgent message for our done witch and see black haul, Nate knows too much. [SPEAKER_01]: His followers are growing and his word is convincing, although most everything they're saying is speculation, a lot of it is based on collected facts. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a good thing this information didn't get out before the war.
[SPEAKER_01]: The followers could be converted if they're not too dangerous, they could serve our cause well. [SPEAKER_01]: Now it's kind of a vague comment and who Nate is. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not exactly sure there's speculation that it may be epic Nate 315, the YouTuber who talked a lot about these types of things in the follow games.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it also may be Nate Perkypile because as I said before in a interviewed him, he says that he had a lot to do with adding this type of stuff to the games. [SPEAKER_01]: So maybe it was a reference to Nate Perkypile after he'd already left the company, but in the game world, [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who this refers to.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you've put together that part and I just haven't yet, please come in. [SPEAKER_01]: Let me know. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, it's also worth noting that there are some other creepy old god types of things that we've discussed before, the interloper in lucky hole mine, but there also doesn't seem to be any direct connections to done which or any of these specific individuals.
[SPEAKER_01]: That seems like a separate thing, but it may be related. [SPEAKER_01]: It might be another ancient god, but there's not really the same stuff down there. [SPEAKER_01]: But that doesn't necessarily mean it's not related, it just means we didn't find evidence for the relation yet, and they very well could add more to the game later that starts to bring these two stories together.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so we're going to change it, but let's get back to the query because there are references from Lovecraft's stories that have something very similar happen. [SPEAKER_01]: In the rats in the wall, 1924, an American narrator moves to England to restore his family's [SPEAKER_01]: and the deeper he digs into this location, the worse things get.
[SPEAKER_01]: Similar to both locations, the deeper you go down, things get worse. [SPEAKER_01]: The priory turns out to be built on the site of a prehistoric temple, much like the query, and under it is a huge cavern where his ancestors actually ran a secret cult for generations, and it was like in his bloodline.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in the story, it's whoever was the head of that house, who was the leader of that ancient cult. [SPEAKER_01]: So some parallels there to the company owning the mine and the people running the company being actually the ones who are guilty of the sacrifices and abusing their laborers.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if we go to the Call of Cthulhu, the most well-known title from Lovecraft, there are some other similarities. [SPEAKER_01]: On November 1st, 1907, the New Orleans police respond to these people out in the swamps, south of New Orleans, and they find cultists dancing around a fire with a granite monolith, which is about eight feet tall in the story.
[SPEAKER_01]: And around the area are the bodies of missing locals, dead bodies hung and are part of this ritual. [SPEAKER_01]: So again, a monolith, a structure that's like a temple type situation, fire, dancing, chanting, dead bodies, some sort of sacrifice, a cult, a lot of the same elements show up here.
[SPEAKER_01]: So to wrap this up, what actually happened at these locations? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, there are some theories that are floating around. [SPEAKER_01]: So I can't take credit for this. [SPEAKER_01]: But I can report on them and let you decide if you think that these are accurate or not. [SPEAKER_01]: The most popular theory says that Richard Dunwich used the crypt back in to find the query to build a drilling company as cover, to dig down and figure out whatever was buried underneath the ground.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this theory says that basically it's not an accident that Richard done which in his company were able to discover this and then became corrupted later that he actually went searching for it. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's after they find it or it's because they found it that they decide to start doing the rituals and sacrificing their workers and that sort of thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have a feeling it's the sort of thing where madness became more and more as they got closer to the ancient evil artifact at the bottom. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is what you find when you dive all the way down to the bottom of the pool at the bottom of the query. [SPEAKER_01]: You find a face.
[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like a silver, like statue-esque face in the game files. [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't have a specific name on it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just called Metro Man 1. [SPEAKER_01]: because it's a reused face from the Boston Metro tunnels. [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of a reused asset in the game from a meta perspective, but it makes you wonder some other things as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Firstly, were those faces in the Metro inspired by this face? [SPEAKER_01]: And is this face the specific face of an ancient god? [SPEAKER_01]: We know when we go down to the bottom that we can find a machete called crimm of tooth, and I don't even know how to pronounce that K-R-E-M, V-H is tooth, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So was this crimm and was crimm of another one of the ancient gods, and this one happens to relate to this location specifically, whereas a gullaltooth was a different god in a different location with a different [SPEAKER_01]: Is it connected to a different God or can you summon each of the gods from any of the altars, there's all sorts of other questions that haven't been answered with any of this, but it does seem like ancient gods and an ancient evil book are things that exist in the Fallout universe.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: We get all sorts of other weird, mysterious things that only get a little bit addressed and then leave all of these questions in our minds. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you hadn't piece this all together, this is how it all works, or at least this is what I've been able to piece together myself in doing research for this episode, but that doesn't mean that I haven't missed some other subtle references, or there might be just other things that are implied, or other ways to interpret the things that happened, because I just shared one of the theories, but I know there are others and you might have your own.
[SPEAKER_01]: So join us on the Robots Radio Discord, or leave a nice comment, a kind comment with some of your thoughts on the way this works. [SPEAKER_01]: And I hope you're enjoying these iceberg episodes. [SPEAKER_01]: We're taking them as deep as I can go as we go through them.
