[SPEAKER_00]: F-6-7-8-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9 [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmour to say with Terran Haley.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Terran, this is Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Terran. [SPEAKER_00]: We have a little bit of a different style of episode today that I'm excited about. [SPEAKER_00]: We've never done this before. [SPEAKER_02]: No, we have not. [SPEAKER_02]: We've thought about it a lot.

[SPEAKER_02]: We have a lot of versions of it we want to do. [SPEAKER_02]: But I think this year we've been doing a couple of different new styles. [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm liking it. [SPEAKER_02]: Like I love to. [SPEAKER_02]: Herocon list. [SPEAKER_02]: This one today came about through watching the rewatch club, which I think the pro con listed too.

[SPEAKER_02]: it was just because there was so often that we would be watching it because we were watching it together which was new for all of us that we would like one more time to talk about something but we couldn't pause it because it would like disrupt the flow of like the people who had pressed play there was no way to like repress play and like align us up again it would be a mess we just have to keep scooting along and be like let's talk about that on pod.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I specifically and distinctively remembered this scene sparked at this idea for this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: And so we wanted to start with this scene, which is the final scene in season four episode 22 ring coats and recipes famously known as, but he's my Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: He's Lindsay's Dean.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's Lindsay's [SPEAKER_00]: And we actually put up a question box on Instagram asking y'all what scenes you wanted us to analyze. [SPEAKER_00]: And this was definitely one that came up a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: There were a lot of others. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that will definitely we'll do them other time.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but we wanted to analyze this scene line by line because there was a line that Laurelis says that inspired this from us, which of course, at the end of this episode, the season finale, where he sleeps with Dean and Laurelis comes home too. [SPEAKER_00]: basically discovered that this has happened and she says something to the effect of like I didn't raise you to be this way and you said to me, do you think that's true?

[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, ah, oh, I agree with the question. [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, we, I don't have enough time to like make sure. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like pay attention, like be here, but also think about that. [SPEAKER_02]: And you were just like like so much to say later. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we couldn't fit it in at the end of a rewatch club episode because those were so like lighthearted and again just a nice cozy rewatch with your pals.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was much hope that I needed to rewatch it. [SPEAKER_02]: like I wanted to do it without us like talking our way through it or thinking about like that. [SPEAKER_02]: I needed to do like what I did yesterday where I watched it about 600 times in a row from various angles and thought processes like I needed to really be in it feel like I was at the kitchen table like ping pong matching this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I only watched it about four or five times but I didn't know I didn't mean it was I made it up. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing is that we're kind of going on the like on the fly here which I really love. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so first one is our first scene analysis.

[SPEAKER_02]: What makes the scene out here and just like kind of breaking it down. [SPEAKER_02]: So we'll kind of see what works here for our next one. [SPEAKER_02]: But something I was thinking about, like, in terms of partings and parallels, and we were talking about Easter eggs last week, and it just made me like think about full circle moments that I really do think that this is a full circle moment from the opening of this episode, because I told you yesterday, I was like, I'm going to talk about something steamy, where Laura Lai walks in on Borey, making macaroni and cheese, and the steam that's coming up [SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, is this supposed to be like a parallel sort of like Rory's got a steamy moment happening, Laura likes in, and then she kind of like is like yammering on, Rory is, and it kind of flips at the end where Laura likes comes in and she's the one that's yammering, but like there's still like a steamy moment happening with Rory that she's about to walk in on, and then she likes her in a room at the beginning.

[SPEAKER_02]: but at the end, Rory leaves, like she leaves the house. [SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, it just felt like it was there. [SPEAKER_02]: Like I was trying to connect the dots and I was like, but when that's when I saw that steam, I was like, that's a lot of steam. [SPEAKER_02]: Was that Amy being like, steamy?

[SPEAKER_00]: For a shadowing the steamyness? [SPEAKER_00]: Wow, steamy vomit that way. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm walking in on her. [SPEAKER_02]: Exasperated with her. [SPEAKER_00]: It starts and ends in the kitchen. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, it ends outside, but it's in the kitchen. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: This scene is so pivotal to the story for the audience and for these two. [SPEAKER_00]: women because I really think this scene absolutely shifts their relationship. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh 100%. [SPEAKER_02]: This is like a real milestone. [SPEAKER_02]: This is like a real climax shift into a new version of the story like this changes things for them.

[SPEAKER_02]: This changed things for a lot of people like there's people who like kind of gave up on Rory after this. [SPEAKER_02]: But I don't think that this is the moment to get up on her personally But I do think that this is like such a turning point in this series definitely. [SPEAKER_02]: They kind of turn on each other for the first time Like in a really meaningful way Especially it's more so in the next episode and the premiere season five that that kind of manifests fully like that we see them at odds But this is like the beginning of it.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah [SPEAKER_02]: Because, like, when Laura L. walks at the end, like, not to jump the gun, we don't really know kind of what the state of that is going to be. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And this feels like the precursor to everything that ends up culminating at the end of season five.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, it truly does. [SPEAKER_02]: This feels like, like, season five on steroids. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, this is it. [SPEAKER_02]: This is the moment that everything shifts. [SPEAKER_02]: So let's get into it. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's get into it. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's start at the beginning.

[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a rather short scene that we are going to be analyzing here. [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm sure it's going to take us a long time to get through it. [SPEAKER_02]: It's only about say it's actually a minute song. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it is, it is rather long when you look at the dialogue of it, right?

[SPEAKER_02]: When you look at the dialogue, it's, it's an Amy's script. [SPEAKER_02]: So what is your effect? [SPEAKER_00]: Fair. [SPEAKER_00]: So we start with Laura Lai running in. [SPEAKER_00]: She's fresh off of her first kiss with Luke, huge. [SPEAKER_00]: She's fresh off of Kirk running, naked through her.

[SPEAKER_00]: Also, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So she runs inside and she's so excited. [SPEAKER_02]: She's just got such an energy about her that is just kind of devastating knowing how it's about to shift. [SPEAKER_02]: She's running up the stairs and this starts with Rory, oh my god, you're missing everything.

[SPEAKER_02]: I just, like, everything she says here makes me so, so sad because she's so excited and I know where she's going. [SPEAKER_02]: I know where this is going. [SPEAKER_02]: But she runs a series. [SPEAKER_02]: She comes back down. [SPEAKER_02]: She says things are happening. [SPEAKER_02]: Big things.

[SPEAKER_00]: Big things. [SPEAKER_02]: Big things. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, things. [SPEAKER_02]: I have so much to tell you. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, oh, I have small things. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, because a lot has just happened. [SPEAKER_02]: Jason was there. [SPEAKER_02]: Emily and Richard, like, Emma's gone down and confirmed that they're separated.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Luke's in and Luke kind of have this, like, not a tussle, but they kind of like come face to face and are a little bit like, what's going on here. [SPEAKER_00]: Luke confronts Laura Lied, they end up kissing Kirk interrupts it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just wow. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just one of the times there.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: Big things while things. [SPEAKER_02]: She is so much to tell her. [SPEAKER_02]: Let me just open with this little tidbit. [SPEAKER_02]: Herk running naked through the square. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that it's so fantastic just like the blocking that's done here because the amount of energy that she runs in with is connected both to the way she's delivering the dialogue, the amount of dialogue that she has, and the blocking that she's doing.

[SPEAKER_02]: She's like up the stairs, down the stairs, moving around, picking things up. [SPEAKER_02]: She says, of course, with all my careful planning and preparation, I forgot to bring Bandits in a camera. [SPEAKER_02]: I have to learn that always without fail, Kirk equals camera, and then worry walks out of her room.

[SPEAKER_00]: Barefoot and in a Sundress and her hair disheveled. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, girl, why are you barefoot? [SPEAKER_00]: Look more suspicious right now. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, to me, for sure she's at her house. [SPEAKER_00]: You can be barefoot. [SPEAKER_00]: You can be barefoot at your house, but I just mean like she came out.

[SPEAKER_00]: She's looking at Dean like they look suspicious. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, because where he comes out on her own and she says, hey, what's going on? [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I says this story. [SPEAKER_02]: And then Dean, like, couldn't be more obvious as he, like, stumbles out of the room.

[SPEAKER_00]: Dean came over to borrow something. [SPEAKER_00]: What? [SPEAKER_00]: That was the best you could do? [SPEAKER_00]: That was the best you could come up with. [SPEAKER_00]: Dean came over to borrow something? [SPEAKER_00]: What? [SPEAKER_00]: What would be better? [SPEAKER_00]: Dean just saw by to see if I needed to help with the CDs.

[SPEAKER_02]: How do you know about the CDs? [SPEAKER_02]: Well, here's the thing. [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if this AIDS in the reaction that Laura Lai has, though we never really see that to maybe not, she never speaks to it, but isn't Laura Lai the one who told him where she was. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that's how he knew that she was home alone. [SPEAKER_00]: Which Lori doesn't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Rory knows that because Dean says it to her when he shows up at her. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you're so right. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So if I'm Laura lie, I'm thinking, oh my God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like she knows what happened. [SPEAKER_00]: I did this and also she's thinking because I've fake him. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, like we're going to get into scenes that should have won Lauren Granan. [SPEAKER_00]: Graham and Emmy. [SPEAKER_00]: This look alone should have won Lauren Gran.

[SPEAKER_02]: Which I do in Legacy Emmys. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it requires a minimum of 60 episodes over a span of a minimum of five seasons in order to receive it because they said like I think reason Adamy was one of them and I was in Gilmore Girls wasn't listed in the article. [SPEAKER_02]: I was like [SPEAKER_00]: It was listed in the original article when they first announced it with the Hollywood Reporter.

[SPEAKER_00]: Gilmore Girls was in there. [SPEAKER_00]: So, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't you fret. [SPEAKER_00]: But Grey's an athlete. [SPEAKER_00]: I was fretting so excited. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that they were just like what show has more than 60 episodes over five seasons. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, definitely Grey's an athlete, that's 400 seasons.

[SPEAKER_00]: Of course. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway. [SPEAKER_00]: Lauren Graham's face. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura Liesface. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's just stay within the narrative. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura Liesface. [SPEAKER_00]: She's horrified because she knows exactly what just happened. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they're not being, they're being so obvious.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they're not being secretive about this. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like kind of pretending like they are, but they're not. [SPEAKER_02]: They are, they're doing a fair amount of pretending, but like, I think that Rory's doing the pretending for Dean. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't, yes, he's necessarily doing it for Laura.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think she becomes clean because she's like, Dean came over to borrow something. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then Dean clears his throat in such a way that I'm like, and I don't, I, I, I think, thanks. [SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Sir. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_00]: You're welcome.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, I should go. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Get out of here. [SPEAKER_00]: It says, by Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: No, no. [SPEAKER_00]: But not before he says, um, by Laura Lye, the camera flashes to her. [SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't even, she can't even look him in the eye. [SPEAKER_02]: The way that she can't look at him.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, she looks away. [SPEAKER_02]: She looks down. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, uh, she looks shutters. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, at the side of him. [SPEAKER_02]: She puts her mouth down like she's like overcome. [SPEAKER_02]: This is she is very overcome because she immediately knows what happened.

[SPEAKER_02]: I do wonder if part of her is reeling like I sent him here. [SPEAKER_02]: I was the one that told him where she was and like she's not complicit in any way. [SPEAKER_02]: Not like if he hadn't asked her and she hadn't told him what he had found her. [SPEAKER_02]: I think he's told a founder like it's like two places she could be in town.

[SPEAKER_00]: All I'm thinking of is, and let the games begin when Luke goes looking for Rory after she and Jess are definitely rendezvousing and he takes her jacket or her sweater. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Laura likes jokes and he's gonna like smell and use his scent. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I feel like that be dean.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like snuffin' her out, he had a founder. [SPEAKER_00]: But the camera, as Rory's kind of trying to save face after saying, by the dean, Dean leaves. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, so I'm almost done getting the CDs together. [SPEAKER_00]: I picked a wide selection. [SPEAKER_00]: girl, you did not pick anything out.

[SPEAKER_00]: You are just babbling babbling babbling babbling. [SPEAKER_00]: What was she going through them when he got there? [SPEAKER_00]: She was, but there's no way she finished doing that. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: She finished something else. [SPEAKER_00]: So... No! [SPEAKER_00]: Take it back.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, it's the truth. [SPEAKER_00]: When I found out what raincoats and recipes was supposed to mean, I know, that was me. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, when she's talking to Laura like about the CDs and battling on, I feel like watching Laura like the cameras on Laura. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to give a shit about what we're saying. [SPEAKER_00]: Like we care about Laura. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's follow her. [SPEAKER_00]: It's falling behind.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because she is walking towards the door. [SPEAKER_00]: And I almost feel like she's tempering her reaction until she looks inside to see what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like walking towards like a horror film. [SPEAKER_02]: Like you think that the person with the knife isn't there. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and you're like, but I have to know.

[SPEAKER_00]: I have to go in there. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have to look under the bed to make sure that the monsters are in fact there. [SPEAKER_00]: And the monsters actually on the bed. [SPEAKER_02]: The monsters actually left. [SPEAKER_02]: The monster is the bed. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's where.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the most, like, if I could pick the most out of pocket shot in this entire series, the entire series of Gilmore girls. [SPEAKER_02]: This is the most out-of-pocket shot camera shot in the whole series. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, we're showing you the bed where this has transpired. [SPEAKER_00]: I'd have to disagree with you because in season 7 there are some shots that just go, okay, okay.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, no, no, no, no, you know what I meant. [SPEAKER_02]: You know what I meant. [SPEAKER_00]: I know what you meant. [SPEAKER_02]: This one, it's just like, we're gonna show them now. [SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna have Laura like, like this is Laura's gonna look at this. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, here's what I will say, is that I think it's better than Laurel, I haven't come home and found them in bed, because I know that's 100% like, oh, I walked in on them and they were in bed and oh my goodness, like the surprise, I love how clever Amy was in this in that Laurel, I walked in after, I mean, and you know that I love the intro of season five from a cinematography standpoint of like, let me show you what was happening before Laurel, I walked in the door and how everything came to be.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that her walking towards the door and getting the confirmation she needed before she turns to her daughter to essentially hold her accountable for what she's just done. [SPEAKER_00]: It is brilliant. [SPEAKER_02]: It's amazing. [SPEAKER_02]: I love it. [SPEAKER_02]: Do I still think it's very out of pocket to feature the bed itself?

[SPEAKER_02]: 100%. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's preferred. [SPEAKER_02]: No, I like it. [SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to go to it. [SPEAKER_02]: It was just like, dang. [SPEAKER_02]: We're just gonna show that. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey. [SPEAKER_02]: Wow, there's the bed, but when she leans against the door frame and she said so what do you borrow?

[SPEAKER_00]: But like she doesn't say like that though. [SPEAKER_00]: She says it like, oh, I can't even describe it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like it's not Stassy, but it is it is like you just lied to me. [SPEAKER_00]: So what do you borrow like and she's not gonna lie anymore because Dean's gone No, and at this moment, I do not think I mean I know worried does not think she's done anything wrong [SPEAKER_02]: Worry has not fathomed that this could be wrong, actually that's not true, because with the context of Rory indeed talking before this all happened, Rory is the one that's defending his relationship.

[SPEAKER_02]: Rory is the one that's talking about Lindsay, and he's the one that's saying it's not working. [SPEAKER_02]: for like either of them. [SPEAKER_02]: It's very manipulative. [SPEAKER_02]: And he manipulated her into feeling like this was okay. [SPEAKER_02]: And so she's she's been manipulated into the spot.

[SPEAKER_02]: And now but not that's not to say that this what she has done is wrong and like she is wrong for having done it. [SPEAKER_02]: But I think that like in her mind she has deemed alleviated that and he shouldn't have. [SPEAKER_02]: because Dean wanted to alleviate it from self. [SPEAKER_02]: Dean wanted to justify it from self.

[SPEAKER_02]: So if he could justify it to worry and worry on board, what have they done wrong? [SPEAKER_02]: You know, you don't need anything wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That's so true. [SPEAKER_02]: It really is Dean's fault. [SPEAKER_00]: I will say that every time.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of people blame worry. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, team lord lying all of this. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's like, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It was wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: what you did was also wrong and you have to own that. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, you have to own that.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is we get into the scene. [SPEAKER_00]: That's yes. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what transpired here. [SPEAKER_00]: So, worries says, I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't talk to you about it first. [SPEAKER_00]: I know I promised I would. [SPEAKER_00]: But I swear, I didn't know that this was going to happen.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I didn't know he was going to show up tonight. [SPEAKER_00]: Portland, unfortunately, is the one who sent him there. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, not knowing what was going to happen. [SPEAKER_00]: And of course, you didn't know he was going to show up tonight. [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter.

[SPEAKER_00]: You still did what you did. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, just going to be a good one. [SPEAKER_00]: because it was a surprise, it didn't plan it. [SPEAKER_00]: That's how it happened. [SPEAKER_00]: And it just happened. [SPEAKER_00]: Like she is saying to her like, we didn't plan for this happen.

[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't meet up with the intention of this happening. [SPEAKER_00]: Fine fair. [SPEAKER_00]: Then she says, [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe D&D. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: No, it's just that they've had so much tension. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, not only are in the episode, almost kissing at the Dragonfly.

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's what D&D says. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, if Tom hadn't walked in. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you guys are trying this out at your mom's place of work. [SPEAKER_02]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: As it's about to open. [SPEAKER_00]: Like a linsey could walk into the sky. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, hello.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hello. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, at any time. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: But that was bad. [SPEAKER_02]: Any of my men? [SPEAKER_02]: That was body. [SPEAKER_00]: So then where he goes on to say it's awful for you to find out like this. [SPEAKER_00]: I know but everything's okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm okay And we were you know safe so all those children man jokes all those years really apparently stuck and I'm lucky too because Dean He's well and I think that at this point [SPEAKER_00]: She can tell her mom is not taking the bait.

[SPEAKER_00]: She's just going, this monologue is her going on and on and on. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm sorry that I didn't tell you. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, almost going through the steps of why Laura Lymeus looked disappointed right now. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry you had to find out like this. [SPEAKER_00]: Because I think at this point, Laura is talking to her as if she's her best friend.

[SPEAKER_02]: 100% she is telling her about something that just happened to her. [SPEAKER_02]: She's not going to keep it from her, but she's not loralized not saying anything in response. [SPEAKER_02]: So the way that Alexis kind of devolved here is that this is an excellent scene work from the both of them because she's like very clearly there's like three sort of steps or three sort of phases in this where she's telling her she's reassuring her because she feels like her silence is like what?

[SPEAKER_02]: How was this for you? [SPEAKER_02]: Like how were you now? [SPEAKER_02]: Like maybe like kind of shocked in that way like Miss reading it totally and then she's like well She's not saying anything at all. [SPEAKER_00]: Also now she's kind of defending herself and then she says because Dean He's well aren't you glad it that it happened with someone who's good and who really loves me Miss now Or like all that mattered but but he's married he's married [SPEAKER_00]: and it immediately shifts.

[SPEAKER_00]: You don't understand the situation. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course I don't understand the situation because what's the situation? [SPEAKER_00]: And I love that there's no, there's nothing more that could justify this other than is he still married? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but then I understand the situation.

[SPEAKER_02]: I actually have to say that I love that we got to see this version of the conversation between them. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that I think this is exactly what needed to be said to Lori and we needed to hear it and we needed to know that Lori, I thought it was wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, before we could get into the next season, like we had to have free face lower lie in this regard.

[SPEAKER_02]: It couldn't be like, I mean, no, thank God. [SPEAKER_00]: And then God, because I do think that had lower lie, lower lie does tend to guide the audience on how their meant to feel about a situation, because we shouldn't character, yeah, yes, case of point, can't can't [SPEAKER_00]: through these emotions that we're probably already feeling as an audience, like, oh my God, and had she reacted any differently?

[SPEAKER_00]: I do wonder if the discourse on Marie Gilmore would be different. [SPEAKER_00]: Because we do see the fallout. [SPEAKER_00]: We do see that Laura Li basically wraps her daughter up after telling her what she's done as wrong and says, like, people make mistakes. [SPEAKER_00]: It's okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just like you have to recognize that it's a mistake.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the point she's trying to make great here is like, you're not seeing that this is wrong and that's the problem. [SPEAKER_00]: Like there's a major difference. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, what she did was wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: But like you're not connecting the dots here. [SPEAKER_00]: What you've just done is a very wrong thing and that is the nature of parenting is teaching your child no matter what age like I know at one point She says I'm 19 about a kid.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like I'm still your other. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, when she says I then I understand the situation like that's all that needs to be said [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that there is a little bit of a shift here for just a moment because she says it's not working out between them They're not happy and she goes oh Rory like yeah, she's like oh God girl like what are you what did he tell you?

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what did you believe you believed him when he said that to you? [SPEAKER_02]: I think that was the vibe, but then Rory says he tried the best he could, but it didn't work. [SPEAKER_02]: It's over. [SPEAKER_02]: And Lorelei let's tell this big sigh. [SPEAKER_02]: Like it feels like the sigh is part of the dialogue at so big.

[SPEAKER_02]: And she goes, he told you that. [SPEAKER_02]: Like it feels like maybe like this is like a, it could be a pivot. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like he told you is over. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: And she says, yes, he told you he's leaving her. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, and then this is where she's like, he told you he's moving out.

[SPEAKER_02]: They're getting divorced. [SPEAKER_02]: He's got a lawyer. [SPEAKER_02]: They've divided up the monster truck season tickets, which is honestly one of two jokes that she makes here. [SPEAKER_02]: Because I feel like there's not a ton of scenes, but it's always very pivotal scenes where Amy does not include any sort of joke or button or [SPEAKER_02]: like to alleviate the uncomfortable feeling that we have witnessing this between two characters that we love.

[SPEAKER_02]: But there's like two jokes and that is one of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Or Dean and Lindsay, love monster drama, monster trilogy. [SPEAKER_01]: And that is like they had, they had to divide up the monster trilogy. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but worry says we didn't get around to discussing everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I love that Laura, I just repeat it back to her. [SPEAKER_00]: You didn't get around to discussing everything? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, he just said, it's over. [SPEAKER_00]: And you jump, because here's the thing, is that we have to remember that we've seen what Dean has said to Lori. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura has not.

[SPEAKER_00]: So she's just every bit of information she's getting. [SPEAKER_00]: is exactly as worry is telling it to her like she doesn't know anything and so she's sitting here like you need to help me out here I don't just trust that this is over and you shouldn't either. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you mean you didn't get around to discussing everything and it's quite interesting that [SPEAKER_02]: It's very worry of her not to have expressed her disdain for Lindsay around Laura Ly because like she doesn't give a lot of context to the boyfriends that she's with as we move along like a lot of explanation for them that I'm surprised that this is not a conversation that she was already privy to.

[SPEAKER_02]: about Lindsey, because this was all, I don't want to say it was pre-meditated. [SPEAKER_02]: This wasn't, this was a surprise, but it was always headed that way. [SPEAKER_02]: Like they were meeting in alleyways. [SPEAKER_02]: They were meeting in alleyways. [SPEAKER_02]: That was Dean's idea.

[SPEAKER_02]: But nonetheless, she went, she went down the alleyways, she didn't have to get out of her car and that scene. [SPEAKER_02]: No, that was weird. [SPEAKER_02]: It was weird. [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's even weirder that Lori follows Laura Liesline of, you didn't get around to discussing [SPEAKER_00]: Girl, it's all gonna be like my crazy night wasn't your crazy.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was my crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, it was not you had a messy night But it's also it wasn't a crazy night. [SPEAKER_02]: You were at the inn you came to get CDs Your ex boyfriend came over who's married. [SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of crazy and it's self sounds crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: No sounds like crazy [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but that's not I know justification.

[SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: She's grasping at anything because I do think that as is happening Worries standing ten toes down on what she did because she does not know how to bear what Laura Lysing to her and the reason she gets upset is because she's realizing it's true personally Of course exactly, but she doesn't know how to process that release the denial she's in because if she does She's gonna fall apart [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, her saying it's a crazy night.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was a crazy night. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that it is a lot for her to process. [SPEAKER_02]: Like it was her first time with her ex-boyfriend who she's now being confronted with. [SPEAKER_02]: Like yeah, he was married and he hasn't left his wife. [SPEAKER_02]: Like that is like a lot of mental energy that's happening to now then be confronted with it like this.

[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have a lot of space for processing. [SPEAKER_02]: You're under like this is going to be all emotional. [SPEAKER_02]: There's not going to be a lot of logic being [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm grateful because logic wouldn't have been as fun. [SPEAKER_00]: Then wouldn't have led me to ignore like is the logic and worry is all of the motion.

[SPEAKER_00]: And of course there's a motion playing into lower-rise logic here because I think on a moral compass level she would think this was wrong from anybody, but it's her daughter, it's her daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: And she says you of all people. [SPEAKER_00]: The girl who thinks everything through the listmaker you didn't bother to discuss those things before jumping into bed with a married guy And this is when worry gets defensive because she's been defensive.

[SPEAKER_00]: She's defending herself But like this is when the tone ships for her. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think that part of the tonal shift for Laura. [SPEAKER_02]: I hear is on like Lauren Graham where your Emmys where your shelves and shelves of Emmys Because it sounds like she's trying not to cry when she delivers that [SPEAKER_02]: Like the way that it's said, it sounds like she's trying to not let her voice break, which I think it was like George Clooney that said like the easiest part of acting is crying.

[SPEAKER_02]: The hardest part of acting is trying not to cry because that is more human nature. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, to not cry. [SPEAKER_02]: But it's like so much easier to just be very emotive when most people are not. [SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like in this moment her holding that back in order to like, [SPEAKER_02]: Go through the rest of what we have to do here.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like Lauren Graham I know I want to give you a bunch of enemies a bunch of Terran Haley's Yeah, I don't know if the mean is much, but I don't think the mean is much but like yeah, but this is where I feel worries Tom gets more defensive. [SPEAKER_00]: This is the stakes are getting higher here.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a married guy. [SPEAKER_00]: He's Dean my Dean [SPEAKER_00]: He's not your Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: He's Lindsey's Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: You're the other woman. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's my Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: It sounds like Laura Lye is talking to a child and saying, that is not your toy.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's Lindsey's toy. [SPEAKER_00]: And you don't get to play with that toy unless Lindsey says it's okay, and unless Lindsey divorces the toy. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, unless legally the toy just no longer belong to Lindsay to Lindsay. [SPEAKER_02]: It really is. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like the possessive nature of that is wild work on behalf of Oregon more.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a married guy. [SPEAKER_02]: He's dean. [SPEAKER_02]: Like my dean. [SPEAKER_02]: But like cutting out the my dean of it, like because that's like a whole separate thing that we could discuss for the next 87 minutes [SPEAKER_02]: actually spoke. [SPEAKER_02]: He's quite literally both.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, those are not usually, I mean, his name is Dean. [SPEAKER_02]: He did once date you. [SPEAKER_02]: He was once not married, but now he is a married guy. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's not just a married guy, nebulous out there, but if we were gathering up married guys, we would gather up Dean because he is one of them.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if we're like, let's get a group of [SPEAKER_02]: would be a part of that. [SPEAKER_02]: He is Dean, if we're gathering up Dean, we would just get Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if we were gathering up Dean's, he would fit into that category. [SPEAKER_00]: If we were gathering up Mary guys, he'd also fit in that category.

[SPEAKER_00]: So she's actually wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: She's, that's the correct. [SPEAKER_00]: He is not her Dean. [SPEAKER_02]: She's Dean, my Dean, worried, do you've said three statements? [SPEAKER_02]: He's not a married guy, wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: He's Dean, correct. [SPEAKER_00]: He, my Dean, you know those Instagram videos where people like take a really nasty comment from like a troll and they like gram or correct it.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, okay, no, you said you're. [SPEAKER_00]: It's actually why OV apostrophe, R-E, and asshole. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, that's just that's what I feel like we're doing here very Gilmar here are facts false true false He's not a married guy false. [SPEAKER_02]: He's dean so true couldn't be more true my dean You know what here's a thing.

[SPEAKER_02]: It may be there is some truth to that because legally that is Lindsey's husband [SPEAKER_02]: Where does his loyalty lie? [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he is a married guy, and maybe that is her Dean. [SPEAKER_02]: Would he have slept with her if it was Lindsay's Dean? [SPEAKER_02]: I guess not, but it'd be the problem is that both are true.

[SPEAKER_02]: That really is what it comes down to. [SPEAKER_00]: And Laura line reminds her of that, as I said, he's not your Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: He's Lindsay's Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: You're the other woman. [SPEAKER_00]: And no matter what she says, this girl is not budging. [SPEAKER_00]: I told you it's over.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's not over until he's out of the house with the ring off. [SPEAKER_00]: Rory? [SPEAKER_00]: Diobrolical that she said that. [SPEAKER_00]: He took the ring off, and this, this for me, is where the scene shifts. [SPEAKER_00]: This is where Laura Lies brain does a fucking 180. [SPEAKER_00]: She's my function.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gone, I don't believe this. [SPEAKER_00]: Like settling in for her. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, oh my God, you've done this, and you don't see anything wrong with it. [SPEAKER_02]: Does she she she she can the thing is here. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's the thing. [SPEAKER_02]: It's not over until he's out of the house with the ring off from that statement That's exactly what happened.

[SPEAKER_02]: He is out of the house. [SPEAKER_02]: He's at Roy's house in Roy's bed actually and he took the ring off and out of the house with the ring off [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the physical sense, but in the actual metaphorical sense of they have moved out from being from living with each other, and he is not wearing his ring anymore.

[SPEAKER_00]: Midge Mazele style Joel is in Penny Pan's apartment, and she took her ring off there and not together anymore those two. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they're still married, but they're separated. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's the thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Is if Dean and Lindsay had agreed that they were still gonna be married, they're separated, maybe even legally separated, and they are taking time, planning on getting divorced, we would be having a very different conversation.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think, [SPEAKER_00]: that that is what Roy Gilmore thought. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not to the extent, but I think she believes like he's done, it's over, he's in love with me, and that's just what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're gonna be divorced. [SPEAKER_02]: I truly think she thinks so.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the presentation that Laura Lies giving here have like, have you confirmed this? [SPEAKER_02]: It's so true, but I think that Roy does believe that this is the circumstance. [SPEAKER_02]: But she's not dumb. [SPEAKER_02]: Before he's not dumb, when Blorla says he's out of the house with the ring off, she doesn't mean physically he is out of the house and he physically took the ring off.

[SPEAKER_02]: She means that he's out of the house and he's divorced, like the third divorce, so they're truly separated. [SPEAKER_02]: Like that he's not where's Dean going, he's going back home, he's going back to where he lives. [SPEAKER_02]: That's not out of the house with the bring-off. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just not.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's just simply not. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you're not going home to your wife waiting up with your wife when you're out of the house with the bring-off. [SPEAKER_02]: It's not like recreational activities. [SPEAKER_02]: It's not about the way they're meant. [SPEAKER_02]: You go to Yale. [SPEAKER_02]: You, you can understand that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think she's so mired in just defending herself, defending what she's just done, her actions, and trying to prove to her mother that she didn't [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but haven't you ever been in a situation? [SPEAKER_02]: Not like this. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's be honest, I've never been in this situation.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're even on something wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: And maybe partway through talking to someone about it, you kind of realized it was wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: But am I going to tell you that I now realize it's wrong? [SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm going to burrow in. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go in even harder and defend myself, despite in the middle of it that I was kind of like, oh, that was great.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I can't come back from this in the middle of this. [SPEAKER_02]: Because she said, well, I says, oh my god, I don't believe this. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, say, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's like actually sinking in for her. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, yeah, oh, he is not divorced. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not separated from his wife and you just slept with him.

[SPEAKER_00]: And oh my god, like, I can't believe you did this. [SPEAKER_00]: And you don't see anything wrong with it. [SPEAKER_00]: And Boris says, he's in love with me, not Lindsay. [SPEAKER_00]: Does Lindsay know that? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'd like to know. [SPEAKER_00]: Does Lindsay know that? [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, we don't know the answer to that yet.

[SPEAKER_00]: We don't. [SPEAKER_00]: It's an audience. [SPEAKER_02]: And he actually don't know the answer. [SPEAKER_00]: because we haven't seen season five episode one. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, we have, we have. [SPEAKER_02]: But this point, we will, we will toss it out because we don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying at this point, we haven't.

[SPEAKER_02]: The audience has not seen that, but it tells remind me of when you were talking about like, that still Lindsay's toy. [SPEAKER_02]: Only Lindsay could let you borrow her toy. [SPEAKER_02]: That like, does Lindsay know he's in love with you? [SPEAKER_02]: It's giving secret life some more in life.

[SPEAKER_02]: you know, it's like only Lindsey could allow you to play with her toy, but like not in that way, not know. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't know. [SPEAKER_02]: She doesn't know. [SPEAKER_02]: She doesn't know this. [SPEAKER_02]: Because I think that Laura like when she says to Lindsey know, she means like, does Lindsey know that he and his hot her husband are separated and that he's seeing other people.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's in love with me, not Lindsay, does Lindsay know that. [SPEAKER_00]: Does Lindsay know that her husband's not in love with her anymore? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, has he told her that? [SPEAKER_00]: And she doesn't say yes or no. [SPEAKER_00]: Rory just response and says, she's not good for him, okay?

[SPEAKER_00]: She lets him quit school and work himself to death and lure life cuts her off at the knees. [SPEAKER_00]: She goes, no, no, no, no, no, no, we're not doing that. [SPEAKER_00]: No, Rory, no, you can't be one of those girls who blames the wife for forcing the husband to cheat. [SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't cheating.

[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that was very funny. [SPEAKER_00]: But like, deluvulant, but I am banana-tad as a short, you call it banana-tad. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, everyone's a banana-tad. [SPEAKER_00]: We're in banana-tad. [SPEAKER_02]: I think she's the queen of banana-tad here. [SPEAKER_02]: She's had banana because- But she's had banana.

[SPEAKER_02]: She's had banana. [SPEAKER_02]: She got a banana on her head. [SPEAKER_02]: I imagine like the- What's it? [SPEAKER_02]: The Chiquita banana lady. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Chiquita banana from Stoo Leonard's love. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, hope so. [SPEAKER_02]: But I hope you're well, my girl. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, sir.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think that had lorelight not said this part. [SPEAKER_02]: I would have felt this vibe missing from this entire scene that it was so important to say. [SPEAKER_02]: You can't be one of those girls who blames the wife for forcing the husband to cheat. [SPEAKER_02]: Like that's so girl's girl coded.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like you can't like look at the wife and be like, oh, you're the reason he cheated. [SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no. [SPEAKER_02]: It was him. [SPEAKER_02]: He did that. [SPEAKER_00]: He made his choices. [SPEAKER_00]: He made his choices. [SPEAKER_02]: So I was so glad that she said that.

[SPEAKER_02]: And when Roy says he wasn't cheating, he was cheating. [SPEAKER_00]: Roy, he was cheating and you were cheating with him. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're essentially like facially scoffs at that. [SPEAKER_00]: She's not into it. [SPEAKER_00]: It is in one ear out the other, Boralai, like mom does not understand the situation.

[SPEAKER_00]: And she follows it up with me. [SPEAKER_00]: No one gets me. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no other way to spin that kid. [SPEAKER_00]: And she said, I'm not spinning it. [SPEAKER_00]: You are. [SPEAKER_00]: You are in an Alice's teacup at Disney World right now. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been in this situation.

[SPEAKER_00]: Spinning it as fast as you can. [SPEAKER_00]: Seriously. [SPEAKER_00]: Mad hatters teacups, you are the Mad Hatter. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not a kid, I'm 19. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're literally acting like a petulant child. [SPEAKER_02]: I actually think that that's such an interesting idea there.

[SPEAKER_02]: Because this is something that a lot of people, like, you know, back on our TikTok days would really get into in the comments about, like, she's a full-grown adult, she's 19. [SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, please, she's not. [SPEAKER_02]: You got the word teen in there. [SPEAKER_02]: I know she can vote.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's the most childish thing you could say to say, I'm not a kid. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's truly such something a kid would say. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, being freshly 19, you're still very young. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you're... [SPEAKER_00]: You are not a child, but your teen is still in your age.

[SPEAKER_02]: There's teen. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that there's kind of this double nature to it of your old enough to make a decision like this to have sex, but you are clearly too immature to be put in a situation like this and be able to make the right choice. [SPEAKER_02]: and you're now spinning it in such a way where you are putting yourself in the right for someone who is in a mature situation.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to be able to admit it to themselves, but they're not going to go in this hard that they were this wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I know plenty of adults that would go in this hard. [SPEAKER_02]: that they were not wrong. [SPEAKER_02]: But in this situation, I think it's quite fascinating that we have a character who is kind of like notable for her maturity, that like, she is not, quote-unquote, like other girls on other TV shows at the time.

[SPEAKER_02]: She was studio. [SPEAKER_02]: She loved her mom. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, she never got into anything like, into trouble, like doing anything bad. [SPEAKER_02]: Even at that party, we're laying out drunk, where he was just there, like she was just hanging out. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, she never, it's never done anything wrong like this.

[SPEAKER_02]: And so her first instance of that, her first sort of like, entry into adulthood is like her having sex. [SPEAKER_02]: And on the other end of it, she's still kind of has that like immature, emotional development here. [SPEAKER_02]: And so like when she says I'm not a kid, I'm 19, a lot of people who are a lot younger than you and us will probably be like, she isn't adult, she does no better.

[SPEAKER_02]: She doesn't know exactly what she's an adult, but I don't, I don't think, I think a 19-year-old one confronted with the logic that Dean spins the manipulation that Dean unfolds, you are going to walk right into it. [SPEAKER_02]: Like you're going to be hypnotized by this and feel like you're in the right.

[SPEAKER_02]: She is in the wrong and I'm not defending her, but like she is sick and she, she made a childish decision. [SPEAKER_00]: The thing is about being 19 or even in your early 20s is that you're old enough to know better, but young enough to still not have your frontal lobe developed enough things like, you know, I got one of those, make emotionally steady decisions all of the time and I [SPEAKER_00]: girl.

[SPEAKER_00]: The decisions I was making at 19 years old, 19 and 20, even 21, even 21, even 24, you know, it's just like not as big as this, but like I was making very emotionally immature decisions because I was 19 years old. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, she's right in the sense that she's not a child, but if you're saying like, and I'm not a kid, I'm 19, okay, then you're old enough to fucking know better.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then you're supposed to know the scene and Lindsay were way too young, getting married. [SPEAKER_00]: For sure. [SPEAKER_00]: We already felt that and worry was the one to say that. [SPEAKER_00]: So you feel like they're too young to get married and therefore you don't take their relationship seriously.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of it's it's an interesting, like, holy double standard that she's thrown around over here where she's just like you're way too young to get married and we're supposed to be in college and like you're supposed to go to school. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm 19. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a kid.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a grown adult. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can't have it both ways, but I do feel like the way she's talking about this relationship between Dean and Lindsay is as if it is as simple, which is still hurtful if she had done this, it's as simple as like some sort of high school romance, which honestly, I agree with her that they were too young to get married, they were clearly too emotionally immature to get married at least Dean was and wasn't committed.

[SPEAKER_00]: to this in the way that he should have been because he was still harboring feelings for his ex-girlfriend. [SPEAKER_00]: But Rory does it take this relationship seriously. [SPEAKER_00]: That's so interesting. [SPEAKER_02]: Like that Rory literally doesn't believe in this relationship. [SPEAKER_02]: She was like, oh, because I have decided you were too young to get married, it's not real.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I'm not too young to make this decision. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not kidding. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a kid. [SPEAKER_02]: I do think that that is a very pointed statement that Amy made there. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, through the character for you is like, I'm not a kid. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm 19.

[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like your hand should be on your head. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I'm not a kid. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm 19. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I could hear Leo, like my knee, nephew being like, I'm not a baby. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a big boy. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm four. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, like, that's what five that's giving.

[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what's interesting is that it is kind of giving pilot lower-ly when Emily says to her, you were child. [SPEAKER_00]: I stopped being a child the minute the strip turned pink. [SPEAKER_00]: And the reality is, like, she was 16. [SPEAKER_00]: She was a teenager, and for all intents and purposes, especially according to the law, she was a child.

[SPEAKER_00]: She actually was still a child. [SPEAKER_02]: She had a GoPro fast. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you had to grow up really fast and maybe that is what Rory thinks she's feeling right now like I just made an adult decision so therefore I don't care that I'm 19. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a kid anymore.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm 19. [SPEAKER_00]: Not a kid, but it's like, but you, you're making the other decision. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and again, we just had to explain to you that Dean is not your dean. [SPEAKER_00]: He's Lindsay's dean, like we're explaining to a child that like they can't play with the toy that's not theirs.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that you can't grasp that concept in turn does mean that, yeah, maybe according to the law you are 19 and you are a grown adult and you can vote and you can do whatever, but Can't emotionally you're not there. [SPEAKER_00]: You can't remember that. [SPEAKER_00]: And again, that does not, that does not have to correlate with emotional maturity.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can be an incredibly emotionally intelligent 19 year old. [SPEAKER_00]: And for all intents and purposes leading up to this point, we felt like Roy Gilmore was, and I think that that's where she lets us down is in her justification of this. [SPEAKER_00]: It's okay to make some mistakes.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying it was okay for her to jump into bed with Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: But if she had, like, understood the gravity, it's almost like what happens with, um, it's so much more benign. [SPEAKER_00]: But in lower-rise graduation day, part of the reason that, like, we hurt for Roy is because she's like, I don't understand why I just made this decision that, like, put my relationship with you in a tough spot and I miss something so monumental for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: we're missing here. [SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm glad that we don't get that. [SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm really glad that we have this version of Orie. [SPEAKER_02]: Of course, I think it's much more interesting. [SPEAKER_02]: Much more interesting, but I also just think this is just such a dynamic scene for these characters, for where the story's going, the aim we has provided here.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I love that we go from, I'm not a kid to Lorela's saying this was your first time. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just not the way your first time was supposed to be. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's kind of like usuring us through that idea, but also like her just like absolutely like she's somewhatified by this entire situation that like she's horrified.

[SPEAKER_00]: She can't believe this. [SPEAKER_00]: But this is also an idle blame her for this. [SPEAKER_00]: This is also a little selfish on lower-rise end because her first time resulted in or at least like the first person [SPEAKER_00]: And to our knowledge, think there might have been a time when she talked about another guy, but anyway, like kicking another guy out of her bedroom, but who's to say?

[SPEAKER_00]: For all intents and purposes, Christopher is the person that she took the step with and it resulted in her getting pregnant before she was ready to become a mom. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that there are so many expectations that Laura Lai puts on worry to not follow in her footsteps and we get into that in a moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: But to not follow in her footsteps, like in wanting her to go to an Ivy League and in wanting her to finish school and putting those expectations on her that her first time would be different than hers. [SPEAKER_00]: And obviously it is because Laura I didn't sleep with a married man. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura Lai sucked with a contemporary who was single and also in high school.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, but I think it's less about like wanting it to necessarily feel like she's doing something different than her. [SPEAKER_02]: I think she just wanted her to do something that felt like Rory. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that Rory's response of like, oh, and how was my first time supposed to be?

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay, she's like full on Patreon now. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is where the second chip comes in. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, first of all, I was supposed to be in a retirement home, which that's such a mom thing to say. [SPEAKER_02]: And second, ideally, it was supposed to be with someone's single.

[SPEAKER_02]: And it doesn't feel like she has like a ton of expectations for what it should have been, but I think the core of it is like, it should have been Rory. [SPEAKER_02]: It should have felt like you. [SPEAKER_02]: It should have felt like this made sense for you. [SPEAKER_02]: I think she would have been able to stomach it being Jess.

[SPEAKER_02]: given the situation of like it was a choice that where we would have made. [SPEAKER_02]: It was a single person and it was in a relationship that she was in. [SPEAKER_02]: Like that feels like the standards for what? [SPEAKER_02]: But what I kind of expected it to be. [SPEAKER_02]: Totally.

[SPEAKER_02]: Not with her married ex-boyfriend. [SPEAKER_02]: And worry, I feel like speaks to something that Laura I did want in her next line. [SPEAKER_02]: My first time was with someone with sweet and kind who loves me. [SPEAKER_02]: That's also a qualification, that is what she would have put in.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure that if that was the whole truth and we're laughing buttoned the truth with it. [SPEAKER_00]: So help her, God, God, and Amy Sherman Paladino. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that that would have been great. [SPEAKER_00]: But that is a very romanticized version of what happened and you were leaving out the largest component here.

[SPEAKER_02]: You're actually, that he is sexually married to another person actively to another woman who is at her house sitting at her kitchen table. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is where we post the question and wanted to do this entire analysis because this is a very pivotal line in the conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't raise you to be like this.

[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't raise you to be the kind of girl who sleeps with someone else's husband. [SPEAKER_00]: And she says, you slept with dad when he was with Sherry. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's back up because like, dang. [SPEAKER_02]: Vory, please, please, please have a little bit of context here. [SPEAKER_02]: in this line.

[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't raise you to be like this. [SPEAKER_02]: This is actually one of my least favorite things that parents say because it's like who raised me it was actually was actually you you raised me to be exactly like this but you can't take responsibility for my choices in that way like I feel like that's kind of the [SPEAKER_02]: parents get disappointed in you because they feel this responsibility of course that like they raise to this way.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a very reflection of them and they're parenting. [SPEAKER_00]: And in a lot of ways, that is true. [SPEAKER_00]: But we also just went off to college and there are a lot of outside influences there that can [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I think that she did raise her to be this way.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think that in the sense that like like this is who she is and she raised her to make her own choices. [SPEAKER_02]: I think the only difference is that like she didn't want her to make this choice but she raised her to make her own choices. [SPEAKER_02]: and she raised her to be very honest with her about what was going on.

[SPEAKER_02]: She apologizes that I'm sorry I didn't talk to you about it beforehand because that's what we did decide on. [SPEAKER_02]: We've never talked about whether or not I should sleep with someone who was married. [SPEAKER_00]: like well that's like saying we never talked about what they're not I was allowed to rob a bank we never talked about what they're not I was allowed to kill someone like it's it's it should be it should be on give it on yeah like you know this [SPEAKER_00]: But when she says I didn't raise you to be like this, there was a little bit of wrestling inside of me of whether or not that's true because when when we say this, when she says I didn't raise you to be the kind of girl who sleeps with someone else's husband, fine.

[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't raise you to be like this. [SPEAKER_02]: You and the town did kind of raise her to believe that worry is special. [SPEAKER_00]: And she is, but that does not give her license to get everything that she wants. [SPEAKER_00]: And up until this point, Rory has gone everything she wants for the most part.

[SPEAKER_02]: It makes a lot of sense that she would go to Dean after kind of losing things with Jess, after Jess comes back and he's like, I love you and runs away. [SPEAKER_02]: That she would go towards like the last thing that it felt like she had. [SPEAKER_02]: And as she's running, reaching towards Dean, he's reaching back.

[SPEAKER_00]: because she's like, everything I've wanted has come my way, especially because she isn't met someone to validate her the same way and call it. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: In the shape of like, a male, in the form of a male suitor, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But her follow-up here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Diabol, who's now in that kind of girl who sleeps with someone else's husband and Rory says, you've slept with Dad when he was with Sherry. [SPEAKER_00]: And Lorely says, he wasn't married to Sherry. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, let's roll the tapes, Rory. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's roll the tapes.

[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't know he was a sherry, they worked, they were on the outs. [SPEAKER_02]: This is what Chris said. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I actually don't think they were. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, give him what Sherry says. [SPEAKER_00]: Where he says he was engaged and I wrote, he was. [SPEAKER_00]: He was and...

[SPEAKER_02]: Is this how we find out? [SPEAKER_02]: He was engaged. [SPEAKER_02]: This is what I was wondering. [SPEAKER_02]: Are they rewriting this? [SPEAKER_02]: Or are we revealing the truth that was there all along? [SPEAKER_02]: Because if that's the case, Chris and Dean are very similar here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Because Chris was the one that was like, that's not really happening anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: Well that's kind of what I thought this whole time. [SPEAKER_00]: It put into perspective for me because we had someone who was like very passionate in the comments I don't think they're a listener because they don't follow us, but it was when I had done a stack post about breakups and like what was the most kind of hurtful and one of them was Chris on the one hand in season one being like I want to marry you and then also on the other side of that at the end of season two saying shares pregnant [SPEAKER_00]: And this person was very vehemently like kind of attacking lower-rise character and being like lower-line new exactly what she did.

[SPEAKER_00]: She didn't ask questions. [SPEAKER_00]: She slept with someone else's man. [SPEAKER_00]: She got exactly what she deserved. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, well, Nelly, calm down. [SPEAKER_00]: Very, very, very heated about this. [SPEAKER_00]: But... [SPEAKER_00]: This commenter basically said, like, Laura, like, I got what she deserved.

[SPEAKER_00]: She didn't ask questions. [SPEAKER_00]: She didn't, like, basically everything that we're saying about right now, this person said about Laura, I want to came to that situation. [SPEAKER_00]: And so after hearing that comment, because I've never thought of it that way, and also I don't agree.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I said that in our comments. [SPEAKER_02]: I kind of understand what they're saying here. [SPEAKER_02]: It feels like how we feel about Rory, but there is such a difference there, and that she trusts Chris. [SPEAKER_02]: They have such a history here that like, oh, okay. [SPEAKER_02]: This is not working between them.

[SPEAKER_02]: She's always wanted this to work. [SPEAKER_02]: And then the moment that Chris comes clean, Sherry's pregnant. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and she's not like fighting it in any way. [SPEAKER_02]: She's not she's she doesn't say he's my Christopher She's not mad at Cherie. [SPEAKER_02]: She's not feeling like she's wrong for you.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's like well go do what you need to do Because he's already made up his mind about what he's gonna do totally [SPEAKER_02]: and then we kind of get a bit of context for it and take the devil eggs in season three when they go to Sherry's baby shower that like I thought he was out the door and he wasn't like yeah that he came back that's when we realized like oh [SPEAKER_02]: I cheated with him, but I didn't know.

[SPEAKER_02]: So like it could be a similar situation, but I think that it was all in her reaction to it. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, Chris even comes back and is like, I need to talk to you and she's like, nothing is changed. [SPEAKER_00]: And Haunted shit pregnant? [SPEAKER_00]: Are you going to be with her?

[SPEAKER_00]: Are you going to marry her than Haunted we are, where we are, except it, where we go more, could never. [SPEAKER_00]: She's never been able to do that with anybody. [SPEAKER_00]: She can't even do it with Logan in the revival. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, kind of, she kind of eventually gets there.

[SPEAKER_00]: She kind of, but it's own the whole stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: Still a lot or so. [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, it's this possessive energy and what I was thinking about in kind of reviewing this and like looking at the nitty-gritty of like, I didn't raise you to be this way. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, but did you raise her to think that because Christopher was your first great love that he always in some way is connected to you.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the reason that the two of them are always going to be connected is Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that had Christopher and Laura Lynott had Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course they always would have been there as each other's first love, perhaps. [SPEAKER_00]: And hey, maybe they would have ended up together if they hadn't gotten pregnant as early as they did.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of the conflict between the two of them, and that might be a whole other episode, stems from the fact that she got pregnant and there was a lot of controversy around it between their parents and the expectations they took placed on that. [SPEAKER_00]: the blame, Laurel I running away and wanting to do it on her own, and kind of leaving Chris to figure himself out after that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there's a lot to unpack there, but Laurel I did kind of set the example for worry that no matter what Chris for an I are always going to be connected. [SPEAKER_00]: Do I think that meant that she had ownership over him in the same way that Laurel is kind of speaking to like having possessiveness over Dean?

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if maybe in the season two episode, it should have been Lorelei when they meet Sherry and they have that conversation the kitchen and then ends with Lorelei saying, like, hey, I just want to let you know that like, you know, I feel like I can finally move on, like seeing you get your life together and get yourself together.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like I can finally move on, maybe that. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, Aided in this kind of like, warped reality, the Rheekalmore's existing right now, where she believes that because she dated someone first, [SPEAKER_00]: She has ownership over them and and the right to sleep with them even if they're married to somebody else I don't know but her bringing this up here leads me to believe that this is her justification She's almost saying to Laura like okay pot meet kettle like you did the same thing Meet kettle.

[SPEAKER_02]: I actually have the same name for you kettle is a nickname for pot. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, yeah exactly [SPEAKER_02]: Now that's so much sense, like the justification of, like, from Laura, I didn't raise you to be this way, like distancing herself from it. [SPEAKER_02]: She did not raise her to be a cheater, like that's kind of what she's saying, like, didn't raise you to be this dishonest.

[SPEAKER_02]: Even though you're being quite honest with me about it, I do think she raised her to value. [SPEAKER_02]: like your first sort of love and worries, disconnection is that the she is the connection, then it doesn't, it's not the same for her, but it's like that is always going to be in your life.

[SPEAKER_02]: And you need to like pull back on it. [SPEAKER_02]: If you need to like push it away a little bit, but pull back because that other person is with someone else, but like they'll always have a torch for you, which like true, like Dean does. [SPEAKER_02]: And unfortunately, [SPEAKER_02]: worry acts on that because it's kind of, it's not an example that's been set, but it's an example that she's seen.

[SPEAKER_02]: Lorelei is not trying to set the example of like, always be connected to your first love, always find them when you need to, but it's the reality of the situation, and I like that maybe there's an awareness there from any that like. [SPEAKER_02]: They're both wrong and right here. [SPEAKER_02]: You use up a dad when he was a sherry.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, well, did you- does that why you justified this? [SPEAKER_02]: Like, and he was engaged and she was pregnant. [SPEAKER_02]: It's what she said. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, okay, it yours is worse. [SPEAKER_02]: Lower-life line is. [SPEAKER_02]: So this is all my fault. [SPEAKER_02]: I said one crappy example for you and you have no choice but to follow in my footsteps.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, almost like, I, so I forced you to do this. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, like you had no, when she says, you have no choice. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, ooh, we like have loved like zeroing in on the word choice recently. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I know it. [SPEAKER_02]: It's, you have no choice but to follow my footsteps.

[SPEAKER_02]: And this is where the scene shifts because the whole scene, the kind of like this conversation, the dialogue between them, has been happening in the kitchen, kind of a back and forth, kind of testing the waters, figuring things out, and now that it's like coming to a head, [SPEAKER_02]: Brody walks out of the kitchen.

[SPEAKER_02]: She's done. [SPEAKER_02]: She's done being quote-unquote attacked here Yeah, and loyalize not giving up. [SPEAKER_02]: She's pursuing. [SPEAKER_02]: She says worry. [SPEAKER_02]: What are you going to do now? [SPEAKER_02]: Huh? [SPEAKER_02]: Is there a plan? [SPEAKER_02]: Or he says I don't want to talk about it anymore?

[SPEAKER_02]: Which, like, honestly, I don't want to talk about it anymore, either, because you are not, you're not, you're not, it, it, it ain't registering up here. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because I think the lore lays now kind of on the attack. [SPEAKER_02]: A little bit. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she is physically pursuing her and following her.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I mean. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she like has this like push and pull it seems like with herself because she worried what are you going to do now, huh? [SPEAKER_02]: Is there a plan? [SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, Laura, like, there's not a plan. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what made you think there was a plan.

[SPEAKER_02]: Famously, but there's no plan. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think she's ever had a plan. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, at least in your shove it at her back. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not helping. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think she does change her tactic here. [SPEAKER_00]: Instead of being on the offense, she says, I don't want, I just don't want you to get hurt for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: What if he doesn't leave her and now you're all emotionally involved? [SPEAKER_02]: She says before that, she, after worry says, I don't want to talk about anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: She says, I just want what's best for you, that's all. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's where she shifts. [SPEAKER_02]: She goes a little attack.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to talk about it anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: I just want it with Beth's for you, like she shifts. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and where he says, I don't want to talk about it. [SPEAKER_02]: I just don't want you to get hurt, worry. [SPEAKER_02]: What if he doesn't leave her? [SPEAKER_02]: Now you're all emotionally involved.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then where goes on the attack? [SPEAKER_00]: You're just mad because I didn't come running to you to discuss whether or not I was ready for this step. [SPEAKER_00]: I decided it on my own. [SPEAKER_00]: And it reminds me of the way Dean spoke to her. [SPEAKER_00]: in star cross lovers and other strangers when he tells her that he loves her.

[SPEAKER_00]: And when she doesn't say it back because she is no idea what to do because she's never been based with something like this before. [SPEAKER_00]: He says, what are you going to go home? [SPEAKER_00]: Make one of your pro conlets talk about with your mother. [SPEAKER_00]: And it just like it was a full circle moment for me that I never really clocked before.

[SPEAKER_00]: He neither. [SPEAKER_00]: It just reminded me so much of the fact that like when she wasn't ready to take arguably one of the last big steps in their relationship, [SPEAKER_00]: of the past to say, I love you, he criticized her saying, like, what you have to go talk to your mom about it and now she's taken another big step with him under very different circumstances and she didn't talk to her mom and she says you're just mad at it and come and talk to you about it first.

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, like the other layer to that, because what an excellent connection, Tara, over there at the big thoughts, think in big thoughts, well, is that in Sarah Cross Lover's, the her justification for not saying it is like think about like my life, my mom, and it's the first person she thought of.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of like the reverse of that where she's like, oh, she's not she's not consulting her mom. [SPEAKER_02]: But she is thinking about this in terms of her mom. [SPEAKER_02]: She's justifying her mom's choices. [SPEAKER_02]: You use up a dad when he was a sherry. [SPEAKER_02]: Yikes!

[SPEAKER_02]: The connections, the connections we have made here. [SPEAKER_02]: I know, wow, crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: So, Lord Eliza's response will obviously you weren't ready for this step. [SPEAKER_00]: The very fact that you chose another girl's guide asleep with proves that he was my boyfriend first.

[SPEAKER_02]: and you lost me and you lost me actually I actually was like slowed down the pace following you here Rory on this journey I've stopped you lost me took a turn and I'm done because well obviously you were ready for the step is like honestly the most true thing that has been said here other than he's a married guy he's Dean I think that's the most true I think those were the other two facts yeah obviously you weren't ready for this step [SPEAKER_02]: When she says I decided on my own, it's like, oh, we saw, we know.

[SPEAKER_02]: You kind of decided it on your own, but like, you know, all the dice of the project, and you're like, I did this myself. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, the bangs, season 7. [SPEAKER_00]: The bangs, the bangs at home from YouTube video. [SPEAKER_00]: We know. [SPEAKER_00]: We know.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he was my boyfriend first, is where we've really lost. [SPEAKER_00]: We've lost her. [SPEAKER_00]: She's gone. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the very fact that you chose another girls guy. [SPEAKER_02]: He was my boyfriend first, and that is the possession. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when she says he's Dean, my Dean, we don't know.

[SPEAKER_00]: I actually can't get on board with that. [SPEAKER_00]: Given the fact that, okay, it's like, if this had falls to the floor. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen,

[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, of the two, I can get on board with her understanding of he's dean, my dean, because of the situation at hand, because who's bed, that's kind of like who's bed, have your boots been under, sort of vibes here, is like, they've been under worry gammars. [SPEAKER_02]: He's not loyal to his wife.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that he's loyal to Rory as season five kind of like Peter's out into episode one or two. [SPEAKER_02]: He is. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: So like we could say that is for he's Dean because he sure I felt like he's thinking in her mind in the way that she's advertising this is like aren't you glad that it was with someone who was sweet and caring and kind and who really loves me?

[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's the narrative she's speaking to herself. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's my Dean like the guy who loved me and and built me the car like I can understand your [SPEAKER_02]: and that he genuinely is not Lindsay's Dean at that point. [SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't consider him Lindsay's Dean.

[SPEAKER_02]: Legally, that is, that is Mrs. Forster, but like that, that's not Lindsay's Dean. [SPEAKER_02]: If I'm Lindsay, I don't want that Dean. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want that. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want that. [SPEAKER_02]: But when she says, he was my boyfriend first. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, worry.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we've a lot. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not defending you, but this, you've jumped off a cliff and I'm not following. [SPEAKER_02]: No umbrella. [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no [SPEAKER_00]: Where is that guy by the way?

[SPEAKER_00]: And Roy literally says stop it and walks away. [SPEAKER_00]: She can't handle it. [SPEAKER_00]: She says stop it. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: She says stop it. [SPEAKER_02]: Because like, she has said nothing but the truth here. [SPEAKER_02]: Because when she says he was my boyfriend first, which now you understand why I'm this or that, I could believe my dean better than.

[SPEAKER_02]: She's my boyfriend first. [SPEAKER_02]: You have completely like there's a justification for it There's like a background that you can kind of see this one delusional crazy Land of the old banana town head of banana town. [SPEAKER_02]: It's when she says stop it grow [SPEAKER_02]: And then the way I falls after her, Rory, and she says, I hate you for ruining this for me.

[SPEAKER_00]: I hate you for ruining this for me. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Rory, we all hate you for ruining yourself for our day and Rory, like, and we're all to be fair. [SPEAKER_02]: This has been very, this is a very trying time for Ms. Rory Gilmore. [SPEAKER_02]: She was manipulated into doing this because she believed it was right.

[SPEAKER_02]: She, this happened for her first time. [SPEAKER_02]: And now her mom is like attacking her for it when she needs to be attacked for it. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, also, over well, here's the thing. [SPEAKER_00]: And I, this is not in defense of Bury Gilmore. [SPEAKER_00]: When this is going in defense, but when you're going through the motions, as you mentioned at the beginning of this scene, she's just slept with someone for the first time.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: He's telling her Lindsay's no longer a factor for him at least. [SPEAKER_00]: It's over between the two of them. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like wrestling with all of this because we know she has thought about her feelings for him and that there are feelings still left for her and she was the one thinking about his wife exactly and she says Lindsey, you know, that's the first thing she says when he tries to kiss her in her bedroom she and that's another scene to dissect it some other thing now but I actually was like, should we do a two-parter and do that one but for the purposes of exclusively this scene and knowing that that's where we came from.

[SPEAKER_00]: Before she lays her head down at night, leading up to this moment, she is thinking about this man. [SPEAKER_00]: 100%. [SPEAKER_00]: No doubt in my mind that she's like, I still feelings her and I think he might still feelings for me, but he's married, and then they sleep together. [SPEAKER_00]: Her mom comes home.

[SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't even have a minute to process what has just happened, and the mom is already [SPEAKER_00]: Like pulling ripping the rose color glasses off of her face and in that moment, she's like, and again This is not to defend her. [SPEAKER_00]: She deserves to be held accountable for what's happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but she's just like I need like stop and stop saying all this to me Because I think she just needs to like process it. [SPEAKER_00]: She's in such deep denial But when she ends it with I hate you for ruining this for me. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like [SPEAKER_02]: Girl, you know, I actually love that line compared to how the scene ends because it's just so Perfect that she leaves and obviously she calls someone and she's obviously calling Dean and Lindsay answers the phone and has the last word in the scene.

[SPEAKER_02]: Hello [SPEAKER_02]: Hello. [SPEAKER_02]: Hello. [SPEAKER_02]: Anybody home worry? [SPEAKER_02]: Hello. [SPEAKER_02]: When she says hello three times and then Roy hangs up. [SPEAKER_02]: And she starts crying and the Roy lie walks out on the porch and we see her feet. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's the executive producer Amy Schermer Paladino.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's in the scene. [SPEAKER_02]: That's the end of the season. [SPEAKER_02]: That bullying the final way to NBC. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like a tiny diabolical like we have to eat a whole summer now to come back to Star's Hollow for that and then it begins fantastically But I think what's so fascinating there is like for her to say I hate you for ruining this for me To call Dean's phone and her his wife who he's leaving [SPEAKER_02]: answers it and she's actually with the one who ruins it for her like it like because everything that Laura Lai has said is true because she calls his phone and his wife answers like that's it's just making everything that was said like because it was like she's shining in so that he can reassure her that like everything Laura Lai just said isn't true.

[SPEAKER_00]: and Lindsay picks up the phone. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, it's the true splash of cold water to the face of like, no, she's dumped under. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she's, she's, she's like cold, you know, cold, cold pool, cold pool, full, full, full, full, full, full, full, full, full, full, full, full, surprise, cold, but it's a wrap, brilliant scene.

[SPEAKER_02]: What I love so much about what Amy has done in this scene and the scene work is that they are misunderstanding each other for a great deal of it. [SPEAKER_02]: Like when she says she being Rory says you're just mad that I didn't come to you and if that is really her perception here like it's complete miscommunication like they're really not understanding each other on any level we both have a lot of or the audience has a lot of context for the both [SPEAKER_02]: sides of this because we saw Rory, we saw her all of her little like sprinkling of scenes with Dean throughout season four.

[SPEAKER_02]: We saw the scene before they had sex and now we see it after. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like we have a lot of context for why they're both misunderstanding each other. [SPEAKER_02]: But I think that that's so it's just so well executed and Lorela's disappointment to frustration to try and [SPEAKER_02]: I did just shove that on your face, but I just want what's best for you to then continuing to throw the logic at her.

[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely like one of the things I want to bring up when we talk about lower-life playing the mom card and oh my gosh I was just thinking about that that's so weird that just came up in my mind stop reading my mind one brain cell we are having a mom card episode from Mother's Day and I do think that this scene despite the fact that she doesn't use the mom card [SPEAKER_02]: Mom card for Mother's Day is perfect and sad.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, you're all a card of Mother's Day? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, anyway, sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: But it is one of those things where like this is her grappling with the dynamic between being a mother and being a friend. [SPEAKER_00]: And I actually think the way she confronts her is equal parts of mom and equal parts friend.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Like her friends, somebody like this? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: But it comes with a little bit of like, if I was a friend confronting my friend, the way the lower light is confronting her daughter, I do think that my friend might be a little defensive if I'm coming off as like, condescending.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because there is an unfortunate like a authoritarian demeanor that comes from being a parent when you're trying to like, not in Monash your child, but hold them accountable for something that they've done and you want them to see, especially the lower lower light parents, you know? [SPEAKER_02]: It honestly, like, the mom, card versus being a friend, I think that the way that they're actually talking to each other is like older sister younger sister, like the way that she's like kind of pushing this out her, I would 100% have a conversation like this with my sister.

[SPEAKER_02]: And when she, when she starts to walk away from me, I'm like, no, no, no, I want what's best for you. [SPEAKER_02]: What's best for you is to understand what I just fucking said to you, like, true. [SPEAKER_02]: That's truly kind of the approach here. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I think that sometimes that's kind of where that fits.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I get that. [SPEAKER_02]: Which is why I'm kind of excited for Amy to explore a sister relationship in the new movie that she's adapting from the Jennifer Winner book. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that that's kind of where a lot of that murkiness of mom card versus best friend kind of ends up falling is like they kind of talked to each other like sisters do.

[SPEAKER_02]: Talks of sisters, um, but sisters nonetheless. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, what a beautiful scene. [SPEAKER_02]: I wonder how you guys feel about this. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you guys love this one as much as we do? [SPEAKER_00]: Can you guys believe we talked about it for over an hour? [SPEAKER_00]: I know.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let us know if you felt about this episode also because we wanted you more episodes like this like really analyzing the scene work and the dialogue and Amy's writing because there are so many yummy delicious scenes. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think in revisited we talked about a lot of them.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it'd be really great to kind of pull out more. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the besties had a lot of suggestions for other scenes that we could cover that of course are already on our list. [SPEAKER_00]: And as we do, we watch Clab, you don't like this scene. [SPEAKER_00]: This scene, this scene, this scene, yes, of course.

[SPEAKER_00]: That was one of the most requested was why did drop out of yellow and Logan the scenery right after. [SPEAKER_00]: Right after. [SPEAKER_00]: Which is kind of the second word on our list. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's kind of a little more interested because of everyone said why did you drop out of yeah, of course We want to burst out.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but the more interesting or like dynamic conversation because it's mostly just just yelling at Rory It would have been a lot of Rory just as I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course But it is his what he's saying to her is very fascinating and I think there's a lot to this little line in there to like [SPEAKER_00]: really, it says.

[SPEAKER_00]: But that is also kind of what people said when it came to like this scene, a lot of people suggested this, however, a lot of people also said Dean telling Bory that he's living Lindsay or that he and Lindsay are over. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: We've been together. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, so that is another one that I think eventually we will have to revisit.

[SPEAKER_02]: But any other pivotal scenes, you guys let us know right in comment on YouTube, really, because we can make a list way easier if you guys [SPEAKER_02]: funnled them all into one place. [SPEAKER_02]: Rather than reach out to us on every forum that we have, because there's quite a few. [SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of ways to get in touch with us, but yeah, definitely comment on YouTube because we can always reference back to this episode.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I had a lot of fun today analyzing. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: Me too. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, because the preparation for this wasn't sane, it was just watching a 4.5 minute scene over and over and over again and looking at the words and really am less in the dialogue, but I love that because we have done our deep dives and we have done our rewatches that are a little more casual, but this is something different and so is a lot of fun.

[SPEAKER_02]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: I actually will say there's a lot of times that I say don't watch your favorite show this way. [SPEAKER_02]: Like don't watch all the hold opens. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't watch every single Luke scene from season five and six. [SPEAKER_02]: Like that might change things.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I actually think that like find your favorite scenes and just watch them over and over again. [SPEAKER_02]: That's actually how me TikTok started. [SPEAKER_02]: If I'm being honest, it was just me locking in on one episode for like four weeks straight. [SPEAKER_02]: And then just watching it over and over again, watching.

[SPEAKER_02]: Very scenes over and over again because yeah, I'm I'm from Benana town too. [SPEAKER_00]: You know same I'm a banana of the town Next week's episode we have a guest coming on the podcast Miss Kenzie Lisbeth she is a really cool content creator That I've been following for a while now loves a podcast her and a podcast her.

[SPEAKER_00]: She is podcast called house guest and She loves Gilmore girls and we'll have more to say on that the next episode
