[SPEAKER_01]: 5, 6, 7, 8, adultery. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about adultery. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess if we must. [SPEAKER_00]: If we must we must and we must. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmore to consider with Terran Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Terra. [SPEAKER_00]: This is Haley.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley. [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Terra. [SPEAKER_00]: We just go back from LA. [SPEAKER_01]: My gosh, Cali Girls. [SPEAKER_01]: We're with the last time we went to LA, we kept saying that's so California. [SPEAKER_01]: Was that what it was and that we did? [SPEAKER_01]: When we recorded it Spotify, we had like a count on the screen of like, if we were like, oh, that's so L.A. Yeah, this is like an earthquake and it's very earthquake.

[SPEAKER_01]: His piece, we somehow like always end up with like a surprise L.A. trip every year. [SPEAKER_01]: It's true. [SPEAKER_01]: It's always like last minute. [SPEAKER_01]: Last minute. [SPEAKER_00]: Last minute. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, last year. [SPEAKER_01]: Last year was painly fast, which was quite fine.

[SPEAKER_01]: And then we thought L.A. [SPEAKER_00]: It did not. [SPEAKER_00]: It fell right into our laps because we were flown out to be a part of the Gilmourkels documentary. [SPEAKER_00]: The unofficial Gilmourkels documentary that they're filming. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure a lot of you have heard of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: We had been circulating last summer when the 25th anniversary was all a buzz. [SPEAKER_00]: And we actually thought that they were done. [SPEAKER_00]: We thought everything was complete. [SPEAKER_00]: But [SPEAKER_00]: They weren't. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll talk about the Mornar next GTC in our April roundup and also we're going to talk even more in depth about it with our vicious Trollups on Patreon.

[SPEAKER_00]: We have a little vlog that we did. [SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: We I felt a lot of things for the vlog. [SPEAKER_00]: It's time to be a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just to be a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: The luck made in the crowd. [SPEAKER_00]: And then I happen things occurred.

[SPEAKER_00]: Things happen. [SPEAKER_00]: We have stories to tell. [SPEAKER_01]: No, just have to wait. [SPEAKER_00]: We were only ever two days and we have so much to say. [SPEAKER_00]: We literally flew in Tuesday, like mid-afternoon, late afternoon and came back afternoon. [SPEAKER_00]: Thursday afternoon.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're one of those Thursday afternoon girls. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh, we still are. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But we'll talk about them more in our next GTC episode and on Patreon. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to listen, make sure you're subscribed as a vicious trollev and you'll get our vlog, which was a lot of fun to film.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was so a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, this month we had an episode analyzing the final scene in Season 4's finale, famously known as, he's my Dean's conversation between Lorelei and Borey after she sleeps with Dean and Lorelei comes home and finds out. [SPEAKER_00]: Very fun episode.

[SPEAKER_00]: Very difficult to style such a fun episode. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, very different than what we normally do and we loved it and I'm really really happy to report that our besties also loved it. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, why did they ever? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, did they love it or did they love the drama?

[SPEAKER_01]: Who's to say? [SPEAKER_01]: But like, for us, this was a really fun episode. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, in terms of preparing for it, I like feel like I've watched this scene more time. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I feel like Guinness Book of World Records, Records. [SPEAKER_01]: Sure. [SPEAKER_01]: Big Guinness Book of World Records.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I feel like I like I'm pretty high up there in terms of rewatching this scene. [SPEAKER_01]: For prepping for that episode. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: You did watch this scene a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: I watch it so totally. [SPEAKER_01]: I could I could recreate both like both sides of this like from memory Like hand gestures face expressions everything But it was so much fun to watch it like that because we had that thought during rewatch club and actually executing it.

[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know we have [SPEAKER_01]: We have tons of ideas to see how it actually comes about. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, are we actually going to be able to talk about this four-minute scene for an hour? [SPEAKER_01]: We could have gone on for a longer. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's so much to still expand on, which is kind of why we wanted to do with this go more to consider dedicated to that episode specifically because there's a lot that we'll talk about today, but also that we will have to talk about the future because there's so much to say.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much to say about it. [SPEAKER_01]: And our patron members who get the episodes early, they really liked it. [SPEAKER_01]: They really liked this new style of comments on our Instagram post about this. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they love the style of the episode, but they definitely love the drama that this episode brought about, that it evoked the conversation that came about from it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, about one specific parallel that we kind of drew from the origin story of wanting to do this episode and analyzing the dialogue between Lorelei and Bory and that of course came from I didn't raise you to be like this, which we talked about in that episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But we paralleled the scene that very kind of comes back at her with when she says, you slept with dad when he was with Sherry.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I stacked those on top of each other. [SPEAKER_00]: Those two conversations that Chris and Dean have with Laura Lyon Brewery. [SPEAKER_00]: And the besties went off about it in the comment. [SPEAKER_01]: If you wouldn't was very upset or very much like, oh, I've been thinking this like there's so many people who, you know, really surprised me in these comments because there's dozens under comments was the amount of people who when it came to lower life situation believed [SPEAKER_01]: Chris?

[SPEAKER_01]: But of course, they're not going to believe Dean because we see Dean situation play out. [SPEAKER_01]: We see Lindsey. [SPEAKER_01]: We see immediately the after effects. [SPEAKER_01]: But they were like Chris said he wasn't a sherry. [SPEAKER_01]: So like obviously he wasn't a sherry. [SPEAKER_01]: But if we hadn't seen Dean part of it and Dean was like, I'm not with Lindsey anymore.

[SPEAKER_01]: Why would we not believe Dean? [SPEAKER_01]: The reason we don't believe him is because we see it play out. [SPEAKER_01]: But with Chris, we do get some insight when we go to take the devil eggs and they go to the baby shower and she's like, I thought he was out the door. [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, which indicates that he hadn't walked out the door yet, and he wasn't being truthful.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's just so fascinating to me, the amount of people were like, no Chris said they weren't together anymore. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, why are we leaving this man on the sudden? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, here was what I was most surprised by, so there were a lot of people in the comments that said, Chris and Cherry weren't married.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, well, that doesn't make any better. [SPEAKER_01]: Does that make it, I mean, okay, we got the government involved and that's really the problem here with people it seems like they're in a relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: And one of them is lying about it. [SPEAKER_01]: We know Chris was lying.

[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, they weren't married. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they were together. [SPEAKER_00]: This is definitely something that we're going to have to talk about in a later episode, because I think we need to analyze these scenes up against each other. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm talking about Chris and how he presents to Laura lie at the end of season two.

[SPEAKER_00]: So funny that these are both in finale. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even clock this until this morning. [SPEAKER_00]: I love a drama finale the Paladin owns. [SPEAKER_00]: The season two finale where Chris tells Laura lie that he and Sherry are separated. [SPEAKER_00]: and the season 4 finale where Dean tells Lori that he and Lindsay are separated.

[SPEAKER_00]: Those conversations definitely have some similarities, but they also have some differences. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But I do find it really interesting that you bring up the fact that we saw the aftermath of Lindsay waiting at home for Dean and he did not see what actually was transpiring between Sherry and Christopher.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, we only hear about it. [SPEAKER_00]: But we're about to leave for this. [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think that that necessarily means that he was lying. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that like you said and take the double dags, we get some of Sherry's insight, but we have to incorporate that into what was what the narrative was that Chris was expressing to Lorelie.

[SPEAKER_00]: We just can't do it in this episode because we'll be here for [SPEAKER_00]: literally hours. [SPEAKER_01]: I know, I think the reason that I don't believe Chris is because we were supposed to believe Dean, but like we knew we weren't believing Dean because we had the backstory. [SPEAKER_01]: So like with Chris it's like, oh, but we have to take into account what Chris said, but like, I don't, I don't what a liar.

[SPEAKER_01]: I, and I believe it. [SPEAKER_01]: We can get to that in another episode, but let's get to that in another episode. [SPEAKER_00]: So don't disagree with you. [SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know if I can fully stand Tanto's down on what you're saying without looking at. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I want to though. [SPEAKER_01]: All the details. [SPEAKER_01]: Even if actually he's raw or he's right. [SPEAKER_01]: No, he's wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: That's Christopher. [SPEAKER_00]: He's Christopher too. [SPEAKER_00]: Of the most controversial and hated men on the show. [SPEAKER_00]: I know.

[SPEAKER_01]: So why are we doing this? [SPEAKER_00]: I'd feel like Elwood's liar liar throwing chocolates at the screen. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but before we get into the comments Because I want to read what our listener said after we recorded this episode I was doing some research for like images on Our socials and I stumbled upon this article from 2016 of course it is in thick of the revival and This article from Entertainment Weekly is titled Gilmore Girls Alexis Blodell Jared Patilecki talk adultery [SPEAKER_00]: Five, six, seven, eight, adultery.

[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, I've never seen, have I seen this? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, because I hadn't. [SPEAKER_00]: And so the thing is is that when we were watching this scene to analyze it, I almost said this to you, and I didn't because we were kind of going in line by line, and I was so mired in the language.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing is, when I watched this scene, if you watch Alexis delivering this line at the beginning, like that really kicks off the scene. [SPEAKER_00]: Her little monologue when Laura lies walking towards her room sees the bed [SPEAKER_00]: and then pivoting until I'm sorry and talk to you about this.

[SPEAKER_00]: But aren't you glad that this happened with someone who's like really sweet and good and who really loves me? [SPEAKER_00]: When she says that last line who really loves me, I did not believe a success in that moment. [SPEAKER_00]: And [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want to point it out because I was like I'm not trying to critique her acting here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're just here to talk about the language and in hindsight It's not really a critique of the acting. [SPEAKER_00]: It's more of that. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I don't think Alexis believes what she's saying right now as Rory like like it's Rory doesn't believe it. [SPEAKER_01]: Rory doesn't believe what she's saying no.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Alexis believes in this like I think she had a really tough time Get down. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so like she wasn't sinking fully into Rory Alexis was coming out in the performance [SPEAKER_00]: that's kind of how I felt because when she says like aren't you like glad that I happened with someone who's really sweet and who really loves me, which is us who really loves me.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, maybe that was an acting choice for worry, but I actually felt like Alexis came out a little bit in that because I think she's like, oh, interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: No, because I will say I believe her, I believe that she believed it, but she was like, oh, [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, throughout the rest of the scene, absolutely.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that mom. [SPEAKER_00]: One little line that made me go fascinating. [SPEAKER_00]: I say a little glimmer of not really. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you do in here, babe? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So this article, like I said, is entertainment weekly. [SPEAKER_00]: It was released on November 21, 2016 by Samantha Highfield.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it says, Rory Gilmour didn't make a lot of mistakes growing up. [SPEAKER_00]: She was a good friend. [SPEAKER_00]: She spent her free night studying instead of partying. [SPEAKER_00]: And she almost never lied to her mother. [SPEAKER_00]: But in Gilmour Girl Season 4 finale, Rory made her first messed up [SPEAKER_00]: with a married dean.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then she goes on to quote Amy Sherman Paladino, we've all heard this before. [SPEAKER_00]: She says we didn't want where we'd have sex in high school. [SPEAKER_00]: That wasn't who she was. [SPEAKER_00]: And then goes on to talk about, you know, the network and how they were wondering, we've all heard this story about like when Rory was going to have sex.

[SPEAKER_00]: Favorite pressure in her to have sex? [SPEAKER_00]: I know, another conversation, another conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: As to why season 4 was the right time, Sherman Paladino says it was just something the writers felt in terms of storytelling and also from talking to people. [SPEAKER_00]: It was time for Luka Lorelei to kiss, and it was also time for Rory to have sex.

[SPEAKER_00]: However, the adultery aspect of it was something star Alexis Bladel, who plays Rory, had to come to terms with. [SPEAKER_00]: quote, over the years, I was definitely surprised by certain plot twists, Blidell says, that was one of the things that surprised me. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think that it was something that made a lot of sense for my character.

[SPEAKER_00]: Amy likes a bit of a shock value, so it was something that I had to wrap my head around. [SPEAKER_00]: For Jared Padilekki, who plays Dean, [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't quite a shocking. [SPEAKER_00]: Quote, I knew that the entire marriage to Lindsay was a cry for help and not a union for a lifetime.

[SPEAKER_00]: Paddle that he says. [SPEAKER_00]: He's in love with somebody who he thinks he doesn't deserve. [SPEAKER_00]: So he's found somebody else and convinced himself he can be happy with that person. [SPEAKER_00]: And you deserve Lindsay? [SPEAKER_00]: I found that so interesting because like we watched this scene from such a language perspective.

[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I watched it from the acting. [SPEAKER_00]: We gave Lauren and Alexis their flowers when it came to that. [SPEAKER_00]: But it's so fascinating to see the behind-the-scenes approach to these two characters and this decision that has been made, that we of course criticizes an audience looking at them from two characters, but you kind of sometimes forget about the actors who are playing them and how they feel about what their characters are doing.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this is one of the first times that I've never seen this article before. [SPEAKER_00]: I've never thought about it from the perspective of, like, how did Alexis feel about sleeping with Dean? [SPEAKER_00]: Was she like, wait, would I do this? [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I love the Jared Patelekky element of that, because, like, of course he thinks that, like, this is, like, that's so perfectly, like encapsulates Lindsay and Dean.

[SPEAKER_01]: Is that like, he doesn't think that he deserves worry, and so he's not like going to pursue her in any way, especially she heard him. [SPEAKER_01]: And he stills him out with her. [SPEAKER_01]: And then the Lindsay, you don't deserve Lindsay. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not worth it, but I do love his perspective.

[SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell you? [SPEAKER_01]: I disagree with Alexis. [SPEAKER_01]: I think this is so wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, once we got into the language of it all, it did kind of whatsoever. [SPEAKER_00]: I said this in the episode that like the town kind of raised her to and and everybody around her mom, her grandparents raised her to believe that like she was deserving of everything she wanted.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if that also fell in line, [SPEAKER_00]: with a guy who she believes she has some sort of, yes, like territorial control or claim over is a much better way of saying that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but I also in rewatching the scene between Dean and Roy in preparation for like kind of weighing it up against Chris and Laura Licene and season two.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really interested to talk about that because I do feel like Rory asked questions. [SPEAKER_00]: I do feel like Rory's like she did offer solutions like maybe you guys should go see a counselor like are you sure I've heard that like He was the hardest yes, and then she gave in so it's like, oh, okay, I can only defend you [SPEAKER_00]: So far.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but she was do it. [SPEAKER_01]: She was asking the right questions. [SPEAKER_01]: I just reminds me when they were talking she took the ring off and I was like I understand why you're frustrated because like you were like you were seduced into this do you work? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you got a little bit because you were asking the right questions and being filled in with the wrong answers [SPEAKER_01]: But I just think story wise writing wise, it makes so much sense that like the first huge mistake she's going to make is as a result of like why everything else went right in her life is because like she was always getting exactly what she wanted and so now she's getting what she wants and it's completely the wrong decision and

[SPEAKER_01]: Fascinating. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm very fascinated by Alexis's perspective on Rory and what the right, like what she thinks the right decision by Rory would be. [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously not to sleep with another woman to husband, but what the reaction should have been from Alexis's Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that was really the only emotional contribution that these two offered to this article, but then they went on to talk about the behind the scenes of them actually in bed together at the beginning of season five. [SPEAKER_00]: As far as the actors were concerned, the impact of their character's decision wasn't the most difficult part of filming the scene.

[SPEAKER_00]: Rather, it was trying to fit both Bledell and Paddlek, who's more than six feet tall and to worries freakishly small bed. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Jared Patelekky and a twin bed on his own is rough, trying to get an Alexis who's also quite tall. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a rough. [SPEAKER_01]: That's a rough go of it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure both of his feet were on the ground. [SPEAKER_00]: I've always wondered how Alexis fit in that bed when they had her sleeping, when they had her reading, when she was just lounging like her arm was breathing her in. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, when she and Laura live with Leigh and Pat together, I was just like, [SPEAKER_00]: How do they do this?

[SPEAKER_00]: So Amy says, we brought Rory's bed back for the revival. [SPEAKER_00]: And I remember standing in that room saying, there's no fucking way Jared and her fit in that bed. [SPEAKER_00]: Spoiler alert, they didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It was like a miniature twin Bladel ads. [SPEAKER_00]: In the outtakes, I fell off of that bed a couple times.

[SPEAKER_00]: Can you imagine they're filming this scene? [SPEAKER_00]: This crazy crazy falls. [SPEAKER_00]: scene and she's falling out of the bed. [SPEAKER_00]: Once reminded of the fact Paddlekki burst into laughter, she did, that's right, oh my god, that is totally slip my mind. [SPEAKER_00]: As for how he managed to stay on the bed, Paddlekki says, my feet definitely were off of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: There was a shot where where my waist to my head was laying on the bed, but my legs were counterbalancing me on the floor so that I wouldn't roll off. [SPEAKER_01]: that is spectacular. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I forget Rose and Jack trying to fit on that headboard in Titanic. [SPEAKER_01]: It's we need to figure out how Jared and Alexis were laying in Roy's bed.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want that behind the scenes of him just like likes on the ground. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's exactly what I thought. [SPEAKER_01]: He or on the ground supporting himself and like I've always thought he wasn't doing enough to keep away in the bed. [SPEAKER_01]: Like get closer hold her hold her hold her in the bad worry for me Dean from a filming perspective From a film perspective of ours, but like you know harness her [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a distraction.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I just mean like, you know, keep her there. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't let her fall off. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a hazard. [SPEAKER_00]: It ends with. [SPEAKER_00]: But in the end, that tiny bed might have actually helped make the moment quote, it works for the scene because it was supposed to be awkward.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So maybe that's why they bought the smallest bed on the planet. [SPEAKER_00]: Paddle like he says with the laugh. [SPEAKER_00]: So wow. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I just thought that a little behind the scenes kind of like bring some levity to the reality of what we're talking about here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, we're always talking with we're always speaking within the narrative for the most part on this podcast and that was the whole point of analyzing that scene was from a narrative perspective, but what I really, really liked about it was hearing [SPEAKER_00]: about Alexis and Jared's approach, and I wish it was a little more about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I loved the counterbalance of the, again, the levity of the bed and counterbalance that they can balance the bed. [SPEAKER_00]: They could balance the counterbalance of Jared Paddleke's feet on the ground. [SPEAKER_00]: But I do think it's an interesting perspective to bring into the analysis of those scenes.

[SPEAKER_00]: And when we do eventually go into orienting scenes, and then [SPEAKER_00]: Christopher and Laura lie, and we talk about them up against each other, which we will do at some point. [SPEAKER_00]: We will absolutely have to. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm really interested to bring this approach into it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, the Jared one just makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: Like the just makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: The Lexus one I'm quite fascinated and I wish she would say more. [SPEAKER_01]: And if she's actually quite private and doesn't talk about go more much anymore, but like I think getting her insight because we don't get much [SPEAKER_01]: internal world, but oh my gosh, I like I'm so obsessed with the bed.

[SPEAKER_01]: I can't get it out. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the bed has always been it's always been small, always been small, such a fascination as to how that giant man fit into that teeny tiny bed. [SPEAKER_01]: See, this is why they got the trundle by season seven because they had. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, I'm not laying in that bed. [SPEAKER_00]: But Dean Ved. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So diving into the comments on how people felt with this kind of stacked parallel post, which is different than us like truly analyzing the dialogue, say in like a clip or real of our episode, but people just kind of seeing it word for word.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it begins to each other. [SPEAKER_00]: Initial thoughts, I think, is really, this is really cool to see because when we do eventually talk about these and the language of these two scenes down the line, I wonder if our opinions will change or if our besties opinions will change. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there were a lot of people in the comments who, for the most part, were like, these were not the same situations, but there were people in the comments who were like, [SPEAKER_00]: Like motherlike daughter, yes, she absolutely raised her to be this way.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is the same. [SPEAKER_00]: These were both traumatizing events for the two of them. [SPEAKER_00]: And then there were people who were like Christopher was not married to Sherry. [SPEAKER_00]: It was not the same. [SPEAKER_00]: And that was kind of the, like I said at the beginning of this episode, that was the biggest comment that a lot of people made.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know that that is a strong enough argument. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, marriage is very serious. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a lot more serious. [SPEAKER_00]: then say a casual relationship. [SPEAKER_00]: However, that does not mean that you have license to sleep with your ex in your scenario.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, you guys have laid out those specific parameters for your relationship in your [SPEAKER_01]: And we get Cherries end of it because I think that that when we put those scenes up against each other later this year, I think that we have to go to take the double eggs and get Cherries perspective on it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Totally. [SPEAKER_01]: Because I just think for me, it really always comes back to the fact that we are quite blank believing Chris in this situation. [SPEAKER_01]: And that Cherries perspective on it. [SPEAKER_01]: Because in Dean's version of it, in Dean's scene with Rory beforehand, [SPEAKER_01]: He's manipulating her because we know the truth and we're going to find out like whether or not you're rewatching or you're watching it for the first time you're going to at some point know the truth behind Lindsay and then he was manipulating her.

[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like why are we like assuming that because we don't know prices side we're like okay like we have to believe him because we don't have any of anything else. [SPEAKER_01]: I do think worries wrong to say they were engaged because I don't think they were. [SPEAKER_01]: But by haunted, like they are, but that was before this happened, so I don't know.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the same to cheat in a relationship versus cheat in marriage. [SPEAKER_01]: I think the only difference is that you have to involve the law in order to break up. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's that's the only difference there. [SPEAKER_01]: In my opinion, in terms of like what a relationship is.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, in terms of the emotional damage that it causes, yeah, of course, like I said before, you might not be as emotionally invested in a casual relationship as you are in a marriage because typically you've been with that person for a long time, you've built a life together. [SPEAKER_00]: A casual relationship may be in the early stages.

[SPEAKER_00]: However, it does not matter that can still be very emotionally damaging. [SPEAKER_00]: No, but Sherry's not Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: Sherry's involved. [SPEAKER_00]: Sherry's involved. [SPEAKER_00]: Sherry's very involved. [SPEAKER_00]: What are you talking about? [SPEAKER_00]: This is not calculations.

[SPEAKER_01]: So like that's really neither here nor there in this situation. [SPEAKER_01]: Sherry and Chris, to get there. [SPEAKER_01]: Dean and Lindsay together. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that for people who are like, it's different. [SPEAKER_01]: They weren't married. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, okay.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're in a relationship and he cheats. [SPEAKER_00]: that feel like it's the same and your friend is married and and he cheats you guys are going to come as a raid because you guys have gone through the same thing yeah and that heartbreak doesn't just automatically become worse because you're married there are ways in which it can be much worse a few of kids depending on how long you've been together again the life that you've built together I'm not dismissing that at all I'm not dismissing the sanctity of marriage hello I'm about to get married [SPEAKER_00]: but like, if Brett cheated on me at any stage of our relationship, that would have hurt deeply.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's what I'm saying. [SPEAKER_00]: I understand there are definitely differences. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, of course. [SPEAKER_00]: The question that I put in our comments in our caption was, did Lorelie raise Rory to be this way? [SPEAKER_00]: And then I put the scenes up against each other.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's quite fascinating with a caption, though, because like some people are responding to the caption. [SPEAKER_01]: Some people are responding to the way that the pictures make them feel. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. [SPEAKER_00]: So Jessica said, yes and no.

[SPEAKER_00]: Rory does bring it up when Lorelie is pointing out that Dean was married. [SPEAKER_00]: However, both men led them to believe. [SPEAKER_00]: that the relationship was over. [SPEAKER_00]: Not that she should have immediately hopped into bed with them, but it takes two to tango. [SPEAKER_00]: As someone said, Chris and Sherry were on a break, but the pregnancy changed things.

[SPEAKER_00]: With Dean and Lindsay, I think Dean just used marriage being hard as an excuse and told Rory what she wanted to hear in the moment to make it okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like, also read him for Phil Jessica. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he would be. [SPEAKER_00]: Marriage is hard. [SPEAKER_00]: Marriage is hard, I guess I'll do this instead.

[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of people brought up the fact that had Sherry not gotten pregnant, their relationship would have resulted in a split between Chris and Sherry. [SPEAKER_00]: However, we assume that. [SPEAKER_01]: We assume this, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Because we don't know the status of their, I mean, we know Chris's version of the status of their relationship.

[SPEAKER_01]: But it really is the Dean part of it that makes me not believe him. [SPEAKER_01]: I think I would have believed Chris more plainly if it wasn't parallel to against this. [SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm like, wait, why are we believing Chris? [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of people that were like, whoa, I never thought about this.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, honestly, us two. [SPEAKER_00]: And then we really took in that scene. [SPEAKER_00]: We really absorbed that scene during the rewatch club because we were able to like, really just watch it. [SPEAKER_00]: And it made us go, did Laura Library is worried to be this way. [SPEAKER_00]: And she immediately hits her with.

[SPEAKER_00]: You slept with dad when he was with Sherry that was different. [SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't married to Sherry He was engaged and it was it's just like, oh, and then you're kind of like, wait, now what do I think? [SPEAKER_00]: Someone else said this really beautifully as well. [SPEAKER_00]: I think they're parallels to how they are not meaning worry and Warlie good at decision making when it comes to love and men [SPEAKER_00]: I also believe Dean lied to both Lindsay and Rory.

[SPEAKER_00]: She should have known better, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Lorelei makes that point over and over, but I think people tend to forget that it's her first time and she tried to talk to him and he pushed the situation just because he wanted to sleep with her. [SPEAKER_00]: I do blame Lorelei for protecting Dean when they were together.

[SPEAKER_00]: She was always excusing his yelling his aggressiveness, and I think it made Rory believe in him when she shouldn't have. [SPEAKER_00]: And I never thought about that. [SPEAKER_00]: I said that like, Laura Lye was always team dean, even when it was between Jess and Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: And even when Jess and Lori were together and Lori would be like Dean was super reliable.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Laura Lye was like, yeah, Dean was super reliable, but you don't want to be with him. [SPEAKER_00]: You're with Jess. [SPEAKER_00]: You can't do that. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, but she was always kind of like Dean was a stellar first boyfriend. [SPEAKER_00]: She was always team dean. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that's why Lori was like, oh, mom's going to understand.

[SPEAKER_00]: She loves Dean. [SPEAKER_01]: This is the one I have never been able to get deep What if it's not if it's no he's our dean instead of it's No, he's she's like oh gosh, that would be it that I would I would turn give more girls off I would be done no way oh my gosh, but that's so true when she goes.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's like someone who loves me [SPEAKER_01]: Like that kind of hesitancy. [SPEAKER_01]: I see that as more of an acting choice from Alexis of like, oh, mom is not saying anything, but I suffered our dean. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, I literally can't do that. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like it's like

[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the vibe, but this person really does highlight the fact that Laura, I was always teamed in. [SPEAKER_00]: Once she was on board, like after mid-season one, which got over the hump of like, oh, I trust you. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, you were safe. [SPEAKER_00]: She says to him, I think in a deep fried green thing's getting like, you were a pal, you know?

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I just, because you guys broke up. [SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't mean we have to, R-D-N. R-D-N. Oh, God. [SPEAKER_00]: R-D-N. [SPEAKER_00]: I really think that's why R-D-N, maybe not like chose to fall into bed with him. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that that is so layered. [SPEAKER_00]: That is a layered cake for Western's bakery.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that... [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, she does think that telling her mom her mom's going to understand because it's like, Oh, right. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's D-N. Because it's D-N. [SPEAKER_00]: It's D-N. And he loves me. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's what that acting choice feels like.

[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, right, he's our dean. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, as that, like, kind of, like, she kind of fades off there. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Our dean really has gotten me. [SPEAKER_01]: I got me. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I love this username. [SPEAKER_00]: It's Ruby Lou.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, Ruby Lou. [SPEAKER_00]: Tell us what you got. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I think Rory did not quote unquote learn to fall for married men from her mother, but rather to trust and believe the words of a man for the sake of being chosen and loved. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I think we talked about this and our analysis of this that like worry did not have that in season four.

[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, she was abandoned by Jess and then she stumbles into college, doesn't have any romantic interests. [SPEAKER_00]: People are pointing it out to her by the end of her first year of college. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you really had a dry spell. [SPEAKER_00]: Paris is cheating on Jamie with Asher.

[SPEAKER_00]: And she feels very alone. [SPEAKER_00]: She meets this guy who grandma tries to set her up with, who's like, drunk driving and kind of an asshole. [SPEAKER_00]: And Dean feels like the safe space, especially after Jess comes and just absolutely accosts her with this verbally. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm in love with you, run away with me.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, and I'm not saying that these are excuses for her to fall bad with Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: I just mean to say that like, she just wanted to be chosen by someone. [SPEAKER_01]: Pick me, choose me, love me. [SPEAKER_00]: Ugh. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh. [SPEAKER_01]: That would be nice.

[SPEAKER_01]: That hit. [SPEAKER_01]: Wow. [SPEAKER_01]: That's an interesting thought. [SPEAKER_01]: That really burned the gummer girls down. [SPEAKER_01]: Because that is really the core of them, isn't it? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: This one had the most amount of likes and our from Bella puts this perfectly, which I think kind of encapsulates everything we said.

[SPEAKER_00]: Best of Bella. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, today. [SPEAKER_00]: Not what Chris and Laura like did was good. [SPEAKER_00]: However, Chris and Sherry were not married. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think that that's kind of like, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, I understood Chris to be stating that they both were taking a break, and we're aware that they were separated at that time.

[SPEAKER_00]: Showed later when Sherry gets pregnant and she says she almost didn't even tell Chris because they weren't doing well. [SPEAKER_00]: Something to note when we look at take the double eggs. [SPEAKER_00]: I still would have liked Chris to take some time before immediately crashing into lower-rise life.

[SPEAKER_00]: Amen, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: Dean? [SPEAKER_00]: Question mark. [SPEAKER_00]: Exclamation point. [SPEAKER_00]: Exclamation point. [SPEAKER_00]: He was married and Lindsay had no idea he was thinking these things or wanting to separate. [SPEAKER_00]: I definitely hold Dean more responsible for the affair than Rory, but I do think she should have waited to confirm they were officially separated.

[SPEAKER_00]: I also think Rory and Dean's quote-unquote friendship at the time. [SPEAKER_00]: was inappropriate to begin with as they both knew Lindsay was uncomfortable with it. [SPEAKER_00]: For good reason, considering Vory is interjecting into their relationship when it is none of her business. [SPEAKER_00]: I think a good friend would not put another friend in that situation.

[SPEAKER_00]: Also, don't even get me started on how Dean should have never married Lindsay, given he was still in love with Vory. [SPEAKER_00]: As Jared Paddlekki shared with us. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so excited to hear you guys talk about this. [SPEAKER_00]: I could go on for hours. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Bastie, we love you.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Bastie Bella, oh my gosh, that actually it's really [SPEAKER_01]: really, really good. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that in the analysis that we did in that episode, love like sticking to the scene to the lines, really talking about it there, you were able to a lot of things that like really big thoughts on me thinking.

[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing that I always like forget to bring back into it. [SPEAKER_01]: is Lindsey was not comfortable with this, and that is really the big difference between. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no difference, like we talked about between being an relationship and being married and cheating. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's really just who's involved in this separation at that point.

[SPEAKER_01]: But with Sherry, Sherry knew the Oralai, but like there was nothing there that was like Chris and Lorelei were having an inappropriate relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: they have a daughter together and there wasn't anything up into that point because they were fighting. [SPEAKER_01]: He only came back because Roy Brooker Arm is really kind of how they re acclimated and because Laura and Luke were kind of on the out but she always wanted this Laura I did but Dean and Roy were having an inappropriate relationship that Lindsay like definitively did not want that we hear from Dean that Lindsay does not want him to be with Laura anymore like friendwise.

[SPEAKER_01]: And they're both in that alley when he comes out and runs at the stops or car. [SPEAKER_01]: They're both in that alley being like, well, I want to be friends. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't care what your wife says. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't care. [SPEAKER_01]: My wife says either. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's kind of the vibe of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's really such an issue. [SPEAKER_00]: The fact that you don't care that your wife is uncomfortable with that is so upsetting. [SPEAKER_00]: And should tell you everything you need to know about that man. [SPEAKER_01]: everything you need to know like that's really great like you didn't see the signs every sign was there like you every sign was a red flag and you had rose colored glasses on so they looked kind of magenta but oh that's so true Bella bestie Bella you got us you got us so i mean the comments are still cooking we've gotten twenty new ones since we [SPEAKER_00]: Startable.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're in a topic. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God. [SPEAKER_00]: The besties are buzz in. [SPEAKER_00]: And so when we do eventually revisit this analysis, and let us know if you guys want us to measure all of these scenes up against each other. [SPEAKER_00]: The Chris versus Dean of it all, and then also including Sherry's narrative, I think is super important and take the double eggs.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let us know because I really love doing this style of episode, and I wanted to just kind of do a little debrief on it. [SPEAKER_00]: of the article that I found knowing what Jared and Alexis brought into this scene. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'd love to hear more about that if there's ever an opportunity for that conversation.

[SPEAKER_00]: And also just what our listeners had to say it because this one was spicy. [SPEAKER_01]: This is spicy and like this is like one of those conversations that like, [SPEAKER_01]: Once the post kind of starts to pick up enough comments, it definitely reaches outside our listenership and I'm always fascinated to see like what those comments are like not really having a context of like we talk about this extensively on the podcast that it's kind of like what they see is what they get and that's what they think it's being said.

[SPEAKER_01]: and I'm hoping that some of them come in to hear some more in-depth thoughts because there's more to it, there's more to it but I love when our besties engage because I can sometimes see when our besties are engaging with people who have found the post that it's like a little bit more rounded in terms of like they're going to talk about more yeah it's more than just this which I quite love I love our besties I love you guys yeah we love you guys so much [SPEAKER_01]: I feel incentimental about our besties lately.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's like almost the five-year anniversary of Gilmore Girly Girl, and, you know, love. [SPEAKER_00]: Love. [SPEAKER_01]: Really good. [SPEAKER_01]: It's something like in me. [SPEAKER_01]: So I just love how he did jog at. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: I love any of you guys disagree with us.

[SPEAKER_01]: I love when they fired up. [SPEAKER_01]: I love when he fired up. [SPEAKER_00]: Cozy fire. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: More Macozy by the fire. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, we will still have a Gilmore to consider April round up talking about the other things that we talked about this month, not just this Dean.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Rory, Laurel, I, Conversation, but we wanted to dedicate an entire episode to it because there was so much more to say from you guys from the vantage point of the article that I found and just us, kind of doing a little debrief, but we're going to talk about more of our LA trip and some of the opinions that you guys had from our episodes throughout this month.

[SPEAKER_01]: We'll have more to say on that in the next episode.
