<p>The Gilmores’ Friday Night Dinners became a staple from the very moment we stepped into Lorelai and Rory’s orbit. The power dynamic, the sharpness, the ghosts of Lorelai’s childhood all linger in the air of the Gilmore household. But what happens when you take the Gilmores out of Hartford and drop them in Stars Hollow? How does it - if at all - change the power dynamic with Lorelai, or each other, when they aren’t on their “turf”? We’re here to break all those moments down. [SPEAKER_01]: Five, six, seven, eight, Gilmors. [SPEAKER_01]: Gilmors out of water. [SPEAKER_01]: They're rather thirsty. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: Just don't have water. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to Gilmour to say with Tara and Haley.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Tara. [SPEAKER_01]: This is Haley. [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Haley. [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Tara. [SPEAKER_00]: Happy June. [SPEAKER_00]: I know it was June last week, but like I'm just kind of excited now that we're getting closer to it as we record these episodes of like it's June. [SPEAKER_01]: I, I tell you sometimes I can, I can do the time travel acting, you know what I mean, we're totally it's June, but like it is beginning of May for us right now and the closer it is yet to make no no in the when we did the last episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: For us it is for y'all for yeah anyone listening to this. [SPEAKER_01]: It is June. [SPEAKER_01]: It has been June. [SPEAKER_01]: June has occurred. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I'm I'm happy for it May feel like it flew by like zoom in felt so fast. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, talk about zoom zoom.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean it was just [SPEAKER_00]: out of a cannon right it was so weird all of a sudden I was like oh wait it's the end that's what happens when we record these episodes you know we only record these episodes like a week and a half in advance but there is something about it that feels like you know we were already talking about June and it was like the middle of May and I was like yeah [SPEAKER_00]: This is messy.
[SPEAKER_00]: What day is it? [SPEAKER_00]: What month is it? [SPEAKER_00]: Where are you? [SPEAKER_01]: It does make the month feel like they're going by so fast because we're already mid June by the beginning of May. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's sometimes difficult. [SPEAKER_01]: But today, I don't have to be an actress.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited for June, I can't wait for June. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like June's gonna be such a good month. [SPEAKER_00]: We've some really fun episodes planned. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we did our townies episode last week, which was just so, oh my God, it's so much fun. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait to hear what our listeners think about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: silly give you times, but also we have two authors that I'm talking to this month. [SPEAKER_01]: Edward Schmidt, who of course I talked about last week, the Open Era is our book of the month, but also Emma Brody, who wrote Into the Blue, which is like one of my top five books now, so excited.
[SPEAKER_01]: Big Gilmore Girls fan. [SPEAKER_01]: That book has such a fandom aspect to it of like being obsessed with the TV show. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like what fits more perfectly. [SPEAKER_01]: Just excited. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but what I'm most excited about in June Can I tell you you know this already?
[SPEAKER_01]: It will happen by the time the episode airs my two and a half year old niece has her first belly recital Yes Very excited. [SPEAKER_00]: I lay and tap. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_00]: She's tapping. [SPEAKER_00]: Patti would be so proud. [SPEAKER_01]: She loves to wear her top shoes Oh, she's obsessed with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have a pair of shoes that she thinks looks like tap shoes and she said you tap [SPEAKER_00]: Dance recitals are so expensive and listen, I'm all about the arts making their money, but it is fascinating to me because you know Brett also teaches at a studio at a facility, if you will, and so sound like an insult to teach.
[SPEAKER_01]: Quick, so sound like he's doing community service work now. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, actually he teaches. [SPEAKER_00]: He teaches for like a dance company. [SPEAKER_00]: And this Brett's school of dance exactly, his dream, his vision, that's why he instantly [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was telling him the other day that I just find it wild because, you know, parents are paying all of this money to have their kids go to dance school and then they have the recital and they have to pay for the recital and it's not cheap and it's not cheap, but I'm like, wait a minute, you're telling me the tuition doesn't cover at least one ticket of this one and listen again, you know, like the arts have to make their their money and probably was like, well, you know, there's the theater that they have to rent and that this and then that and I was like, still, oh my goodness.
[SPEAKER_00]: If and when my little ones want to tap or ballet or do any of that, I'm going to be like, oh, all right, well, we're going to have to take out a loan for that. [SPEAKER_01]: I know, and we like about a whole row because my whole family's coming, but my mom and I are planning to make bouquets that are her size, not like normal ones.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we're going to get like two bouquets and everyone's going to have fly. [SPEAKER_01]: hours for her in her size. [SPEAKER_01]: So she can like hold them like a padding girl, cute in America. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're really excited. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, some he size, some he size.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a real, it's a real big time. [SPEAKER_01]: So everyone caught your fingers for some to break her leg, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: And like a theatrical way. [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to be in a theatrical way. [SPEAKER_00]: You said that's really, really madly. [SPEAKER_01]: Break a leg, you know?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, today's episode isn't about dance, but last week we did talk about speaking of Miss Patty, our townies, and when I think of the townies, I think of whimsy, whimsy, and you know, whimsy goes well with everything. [SPEAKER_01]: Everything. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is our new launch for our Gilmourn say.com merch, whimsy goes with everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: This was something that like, a while ago, [SPEAKER_01]: I think my which is our Tara can I tell you something it is way way earlier like hours earlier than we normally normally record and I was trying to record like this like three hours before we normally do and then we're having a difficult time taking my brain like wake up wake up boys come on you can do it get up [SPEAKER_00]: You call yourself old boy.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's not me, it's my brain. [SPEAKER_01]: My body is a weak and we're doing stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm short. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like an old dog, it feels like, come on, get up. [SPEAKER_01]: Get up, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: That's the vibe that I have. [SPEAKER_01]: And totally, that's the, that's the energy that you're getting today.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it probably will end up being silly goofy. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it'll be at certain points completely devoid of emotion as you just witnessed. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh great. [SPEAKER_01]: But all that to say, Wimsy goes with everything is our next merch collection. [SPEAKER_01]: And I was thinking about this like a long time ago, but finally kind of like put together what it was that we wanted for this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm very excited because I really like the way that it turns out. [SPEAKER_01]: It's very colorful. [SPEAKER_01]: It feels very summary. [SPEAKER_01]: Like you could take the bag down to the beach to the bookstore, to the farmer's market, to, you know, dilly to dally, you know, to chat, you don't have to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, love to dally. [SPEAKER_00]: I love this one because it feels really like the perfect amalgamation of spring and summer. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, and that is what June is, right? [SPEAKER_00]: We're bidding farewell to spring. [SPEAKER_00]: We're ushering in the summer. [SPEAKER_00]: And I just think this collection perfectly encapsulates that when she goes with everything and you'll find some little Easter eggs.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know the townies and specifically Kirk. [SPEAKER_01]: I think Kirk, but also, I wanted to pull up whimsy from people that maybe they're like a shamed of, like, you'll find like a red cowboy boot on it because I wanted to, like, reference Michelle's red cowboy boots that he never wore again, and it's like, come on, Laura, like, that's when you're a little- [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you live a whimsical life.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let the man have a little whimsical in his. [SPEAKER_01]: So I threw that one on there. [SPEAKER_00]: And love a little belly slipper. [SPEAKER_00]: But the last minute edition of the garden known was real life. [SPEAKER_00]: Had to. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, do we put a garden gnome on there?
[SPEAKER_00]: And you were like, yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that too much you were like, no. [SPEAKER_00]: No, not at all, especially because it's a lot of anime characters. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, as I was prepping for the episode, one of the times when Richard's comes to the dragonfly, he said there's one too many garden gnomes, and I was like, yep, we made the right choice.
[SPEAKER_01]: We made the right choice. [SPEAKER_01]: We made the right choice gnomes. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, because Bepet introduces him to all of her gnomes. [SPEAKER_00]: Very important, and that's just so what screams whimsy more than a woman, a neighbor, introducing you to her garden gnomes. [SPEAKER_00]: Actually nothing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Those names at Pierrot is very important. [SPEAKER_00]: I just love it. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it so much. [SPEAKER_01]: So you can chop that collection next week at www.kilmerdesay.com. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And speaking of Richard, getting introduced to all of the bads garden nuns, this was him at the inn.
[SPEAKER_01]: This wasn't when he got introduced. [SPEAKER_01]: It was when he went to like assess the inn for insurance. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, whether it's Richard and Star's Hollow, because no rules will rely like Bobcat introduced me to all of her names. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but see, this is why I feel like he has PTSD.
[SPEAKER_01]: He got introduced to all of Bobcat's names in that episode. [SPEAKER_01]: And then later in season five, when he comes to like assess the end and like give them a better insurance policy, he says there's one too many garden names for my taste. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, oh, oh, I bet there is.
[SPEAKER_01]: I bet one garden home is one too many for you right now. [SPEAKER_01]: Like totally. [SPEAKER_01]: You can't, you sit with that feeling of her introducing you to all of them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Also probably wondering like, what are their names? [SPEAKER_01]: I want to introduce me to these guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: What are their names? [SPEAKER_00]: I think they have a more personal connection with them. [SPEAKER_00]: And maybe not feel like there's one too many because who would have who's to say? [SPEAKER_00]: Who's I know they're all personally now. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: You're so right. [SPEAKER_00]: But we are here today to talk about the Gilmors coming to stars hollow, which [SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited about because I have always been really intrigued by the way the dynamic between all of the Gilmour shifts when the elder Gilmour's, the elder Gilmour's, the elder Gilmour's is Brett Thielbitt say, get removed from their natural habitat of Friday night dinner and Hartford and the normal habitats, the only word that I feel like they're animals right now, status quo.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it takes feels like they're normal setting, like they're normal, like they're kind of on their [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's a lot of how we're introduced to them, especially when we see how the Gilmour Girls are integrated into their lives. [SPEAKER_00]: But I've always been intrigued by the way that the dynamic shifts when they come into their world, because they are two very different worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: And for the first few episodes of the show and the way that the pilot [SPEAKER_00]: T's us off for this dynamic is that there's an obligation for the Gilmore girls to attend Friday night dinner on Emily and Richards turf And it's not until that dynamic shift in Roy's birthday parties when they arrive in stars hollow that you start to see that the setting can really shift their dynamic their relationship et cetera [SPEAKER_00]: And so I wanted to talk about the the few and far between times that the Gilmors make a little trip to stars hollow and how that evolves over the course and the duration of this series.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because I feel as much as the dynamic can shift, it can also shift the mindset of the obligation, because I feel like when they're at the Gilmore's house, the obligation is to be there, but it's also too kind of act a certain way. [SPEAKER_01]: And does Laura lie run her mouth the whole time she's there?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but I feel like she is less [SPEAKER_01]: confident to bring forth some of her feelings as honestly as she does at her own house. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, she's still extremely honest at their house. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think she is to get worked up to get there. [SPEAKER_01]: Definitely.
[SPEAKER_01]: In a way that she does, she feels more primed to when she's in her own space. [SPEAKER_01]: because as I worked my way through this, it kind of made me realize that as we go through this, as we talk about all of the moments that they are together, if we went through all of the Emily ones, as well, we're going to step in over 15 hours.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to do that one separately, because like talking about all the Emily individually, I feel is so interesting because [SPEAKER_01]: Even when they're together, I sometimes feel like Richard is an accessory that Emily brought to Star's Hollow with her, sets down with the other bags and purses, and then talks to Laura Lye.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it doesn't always feel like he is present when they're together, but it does feel very much like he is there when he's on his own. [SPEAKER_01]: Like yeah, it completely changes how he shows up in Star's Hollow. [SPEAKER_01]: When it's the two of them, it's very much Emily with Richard [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it really changes how he shows up when he's with Emily, which I think is quite interesting.
[SPEAKER_00]: 100%. [SPEAKER_00]: The only time I would disagree with that is when they show up in season six. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because they split up. [SPEAKER_00]: Because they split up. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's almost like a divide and conquer situation between the two of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it feels like there is a very easy division between these because watching them in reverse, as I told you I did, why?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I started with Bon Voyage and then made my way back to where we'd birthday parties. [SPEAKER_01]: But I love that. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was really helpful to see this, that like the first couple of them that I was watching, I was like, oh, this is all going quite well, like, [SPEAKER_01]: Lorela is making a real effort.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's trying to like acquiesce to them in some way and then it shifts and the shift is Friday night dinner or Friday night. [SPEAKER_01]: It's all right for fighting rather that like their relationship is amicable like she's making an effort for them at her house which she never really does in previous seasons that I think that that is the real division of like how [SPEAKER_01]: She treats them at her own house because like everything prior to that very different But I think that kind of just like shifts it because like the ones that the two at the end of season six and then the one at the end of season seven Which we didn't include season seven.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like Exist differently than the ones in the earlier season [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I find it interesting that you started with Bon Voyage and made your way back to Rory's birthday parties because the thought, just the imagery of that in my mind of the two of them standing in their like foiei hallway, looking at the birthday party and the two of them standing under the tent, like watching the town, celebrate them, we're talking about two different kinds of celebrations for the Gilmore girls.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think is a really beautiful, circle moment, even if it was unintentional. [SPEAKER_01]: It was a very circle. [SPEAKER_00]: But it's one of those things where it's like everything's different and nothing's changed. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, because they're still standing off to the side. [SPEAKER_00]: They're still outsiders kind of peering into this world, but everything's different between their relationships with one another.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we're here to talk about today. [SPEAKER_00]: Before we get into it, I wanted to kind of bring a statistic into this, because out of, I didn't even use the revival, but out of the 153 original episodes of Gilmour Girls, one or both of the Gilmour's comes to Star's Hollow in only 24 episodes.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that actually feels quite high to me. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Out of 153 episodes, they're there in 24 of them. [SPEAKER_00]: That's only 15.7% of the episodes. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's pretty high. [SPEAKER_00]: Do you not think that's high? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, given that this whole show is about a mother and daughter whom more like best friends and the mother has such a contentuous relationship with her parents, the fact that they are in their town for 15% of the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I mean, I guess I did count times when like, you know, haunted like when Emily comes to Luke's diner and like, that's very low. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're only there. [SPEAKER_00]: She's only there for a second or when Emily comes to the diner and yells at Luke or comes to the diner and dead on Cole and fetched a bulls with sukey and and all of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's like there are moments maybe not the whole episode. [SPEAKER_00]: No, they're spending there. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no episode where they spend the whole episode there. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess maybe the Bracebridge dinner was really the only one that felt like.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're there for the majority of the episode because the Bracebridge dinner is the majority of the episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it is actually all. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, it is the episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But we do see them Friday night dinner first. [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm curious if you guys think that that was like higher than you expected, lower than you expected about what you expected. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what I expected. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know what I expected either. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Or not high, but it feels like that feels right.
[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like more than what you expected. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we can say that. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we'll change our minds by the time the June money comes along. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's start with worries birthday parties.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because like I said, you know, the pilot really sets us up to kind of have this power dynamic within the Gilmore's relationship. [SPEAKER_00]: Emily and Richard are of course giving Laura lie this money for children. [SPEAKER_00]: So therefore she has to come. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a requirement to come to Friday night dinner.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there will always be a power struggle. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not just in the nature of the agreement, but also in the fact that Laura Leihaster returned to her childhood home that already has a lot of emotions attached to it. [SPEAKER_00]: Where she felt inferior, where she felt bogged down, that when that shifts, and there's no obligation for the Gilmors to come to Star's Hollow Ever.
[SPEAKER_00]: And yet they do, starting with Lori's birthday parties. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that when this happens, they truly hand us the writer's hand us the power dynamic shift on a silver platter because we're really comparing these two birthday parties up against each other, Emily's version and Laura Lies version.
[SPEAKER_00]: Emily's reality and her world and her territory, Emily and Richard, but also then you shift to Laura Lies and Lori's territory, the world of stars hollow, the tiny little hamlet they have there, [SPEAKER_00]: and it really shifts everything for the first time. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that this is when I was like, oh, Richard is an accessory.
[SPEAKER_01]: She put him down outside, very bottom of magazine, and this becomes a lot about Emily and for a live, because it's almost like Lorelyce defenses have dropped even though when she comes in to talk to Suki about it, she seems quite stressed by it, but she doesn't really let it get to her.
[SPEAKER_01]: all that much, whether it's like the grudge or just like the confidence of having her community around her, she doesn't feel like a need to shift to them. [SPEAKER_01]: Like even when Emily asks for a very particular drink, she gives her sangria and she gives the same to. [SPEAKER_01]: Richard, but she's not acquiescing to any of their requests to how they need to like how they would think she would need to be because like in future episodes They start putting things away.
[SPEAKER_01]: They start like prepping for them to come over, but in this instance They invited them over to a party. [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't expect them to come. [SPEAKER_01]: They did come and now they're seeing them and like they're not expecting company glory Meanwhile, there's so much company over.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that that's what's interesting is like this first one [SPEAKER_01]: absolutely no shift for Lauraly. [SPEAKER_01]: She's in her home. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: She feels like kind of obligated to like tend to her mother a little bit, but not in the way that she doesn't feature episodes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's interesting because Rory feels the need to tend to Richard and Lorna feels the need to tend to Emily and we're going to get into Richard and his relationship with both Lorna and Rory in the next episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But I find it interesting that Rory is the one to kind of bring the reading material to Richard because like you said he he arrives and he I don't know if he would have arrived on his own if he was invited maybe but he arrives and you know looks around looks at the fireplace doesn't think it's actually sound and then you can just wait outside.
[SPEAKER_00]: Get's a costume by Lu, but you're a look asda, and for sure she'll look asda, costume. [UNKNOWN]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: Love. [SPEAKER_00]: And then he takes a step outside, and Rory sees him out there, knows this probably really isn't his thing, and gives him something material. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what I love so much about that moment is like, I feel like Rory is being a little bit like Laura live there because Missory Gilmore, room full of books.
[SPEAKER_01]: Literally could have given him anything. [SPEAKER_01]: There's probably something in there that he's read before and she could give it to him to like keep him company. [SPEAKER_01]: But what does she bring to him but a Cosmo magazine? [SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like that's so important there that like even Rory who like as I was going through this and noticing all of these like Gilmore in Star's Hall of Moments Rory's not always present for them and if she is she's kind of an accessory in the same way that Richard is like Richard and Rory kind of exist in that same sort of [SPEAKER_01]: way.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's 100% really just lower lie and Emily's where this, like, kind of comes out to, but totally agree. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like this is the most participation that she has in, like, making the Gamora's show up to their world as is by giving him a cosmo magazine. [SPEAKER_01]: And who loves it?
[SPEAKER_00]: But Richard, Richard Gilmour is a Cosmo girl. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And he is an autumn boy is he ever, boy is he ever. [SPEAKER_00]: But I want to take it back to Laura Lane Emily, because as you said, I do think that they are the anchors here. [SPEAKER_00]: They're kind of the more alphas when it comes to the power struggle in the dynamic throughout the entire show, but also especially at the beginning here when it comes to Roy's birthday parties, because at the Gilmour's when Emily [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, super, they party for Rory that ultimately doesn't go over well because she doesn't quote, no Rory according to Lorelei.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've dissected this fight. [SPEAKER_00]: We had such a wonderful time talking about Emily and Lorelei's fights because they're so good. [SPEAKER_00]: Her mother's day last year. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, of course. [SPEAKER_00]: What other way would we celebrate? [SPEAKER_00]: But Lorelai says to Emily, you don't even know what she needs because you don't know her.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've never tried to know her just like you never knew me. [SPEAKER_00]: And Emily fires back, oh, I know you. [SPEAKER_00]: And Lorelai says, oh, please, you don't know anything about me. [SPEAKER_00]: And Emily says, oh, you'd like to think that wouldn't, you know, that you're just some huge mystery to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're not so mysterious, Lorelai. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they come to this party. [SPEAKER_00]: and this moment at the end where Emily realizes that she doesn't know her daughter at all comes from the fact that she spent what maybe an hour less than in her world only to discover she doesn't know her at all.
[SPEAKER_01]: When I also find interesting about that, that Suki is like the recipient of this information that we learned. [SPEAKER_01]: is that this is the Gilmore's first time ever at their house because we get a little backstory that they've been to Star's Hollow because they've been to the Inn and they would visit them there.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they've never been to the Blue House. [SPEAKER_01]: They've never been to the Loyalized House before. [SPEAKER_01]: And I find that so fascinating and actually really grateful for that Amy decided for us to see the first time that they were there. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not something we're hearing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a story we're being told. [SPEAKER_01]: And it like makes me want to like have the alternate version of Emily and Richard pulling up to the house Me too. [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking about that Yeah, was it like for them to pull up to the house and be like, this is where she lives.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's been like there's a party going on right here Like she opens the door she being Emily and you know is met with this huge community of people that she is no idea who they are that they all showed up for her daughter [SPEAKER_01]: Not to mention like her looking around the house and being like, what is this?
[SPEAKER_01]: What is this? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like so grateful to Amy that we got to see that alone. [SPEAKER_01]: Me too. [SPEAKER_00]: I totally agree. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're watching them meet the people in her world. [SPEAKER_00]: First with Suki. [SPEAKER_00]: What's a Suki?
[SPEAKER_01]: What's a suki? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, first with the Tertula costa. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think Emily is taking a back. [SPEAKER_00]: She is no idea what to do with it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I thought you about to say she's taken with her. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, no, she's taking a back.
[SPEAKER_01]: Take it a back. [SPEAKER_01]: Take it a back. [SPEAKER_01]: She really demands her number. [SPEAKER_01]: She says she's very talented. [SPEAKER_01]: And I love that that runs to the rest of the series. [SPEAKER_01]: The chief always loves suki. [SPEAKER_01]: She will always appreciate her talents.
[SPEAKER_01]: And same with Richard, the glider on when he gets one of her scones. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, oh my God, they love suki. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Emily spots Lauraly Hucking Luke for getting ice for showing up and bringing ice. [SPEAKER_00]: Hello. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And she is, she's really Emily is just after the Suki interaction. [SPEAKER_00]: She's just observing. [SPEAKER_00]: She observes Lauraly's interaction with Luke. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the Tony swapping stories in front of her. [SPEAKER_00]: Like their, her family, because they are, they raised Rory in a sense.
[SPEAKER_00]: These conversations and what Patty saying, what Babet and more you're talking about, like, those are things that normally your family be it mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandparents would be reminiscing on. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And Emily's a spectator. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's a very, she doesn't have anything to offer.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite line deliveries and I think I've talked about this on this podcast is when they're talking about her like being a cheerleader and how she wouldn't cheer for anybody about Hartford, Harvard, and then, you know, she was in dance classes and they were talking about how bad she was.
[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, no, she was really good and more like, oh, she is. [SPEAKER_01]: pretty bad. [SPEAKER_01]: Moreie being the one being like, she was pretty bad. [SPEAKER_01]: Do you think the Patty charges $35 to go to her dance recital? [SPEAKER_00]: Probably. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, actually at the time it was probably just scaled to 2000.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're $2,000. [SPEAKER_00]: But when Emily does eventually get up from the conversation and go upstairs and lower life follows her, [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I would follow her, too. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm like, where are you going? [SPEAKER_00]: Where are you going?
[SPEAKER_01]: Why are you going up there? [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing up there? [SPEAKER_00]: Emily says to her, that's quite an assortment of characters. [SPEAKER_00]: You've assembled down there. [SPEAKER_01]: And she says they're good people. [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if Emily agrees. [SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if she is like observing these conversations and hearing like how long they've been a part of their lives.
[SPEAKER_00]: and recognizes like oh wow she really did have community she wasn't alone she didn't do this by herself but she did choose to do without me [SPEAKER_01]: I actually would like to revisit that question and that idea of what she thinks about them when we do the Emily and Star's Hollow episode because I'm thinking immediately of her reaction to like the shed of like you would rather do anything than be with us.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I like don't know how she was thinking about those people of like you would have rather. [SPEAKER_01]: given we're in her garden. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, then yeah, like be with us, but I feel she's just such an observer right now that I don't think she is necessarily using the time to like reflect on how she feels about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's just absorbing it all and it's just like, [SPEAKER_01]: the tally marks of like, I don't know my daughter. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know my daughter. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know my daughter. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's just building and building and I don't think she's taking the time to really be like, I don't like any of these people.
[SPEAKER_01]: How dare she? [SPEAKER_01]: It's just more of like, oh, whoops. [SPEAKER_01]: She was right. [SPEAKER_01]: And like, maybe feeling badly about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Totally. [SPEAKER_00]: But I do love this scene in the bedroom between the two of them. [SPEAKER_00]: Emily learns a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: She sees that Laura Lye broke her leg.
[SPEAKER_00]: She picks up the quilt that Laura Lye made with Maurice Babyclose. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, has to make a comment about like I hope you watch them first. [SPEAKER_00]: something like yeah she's still trying to have some what of the upper hand is she absorbs all of this information because at the end of the day she's her mother and she Emily go more loves the power struggle she loves to be in charge she loves to be in control but she's loose she can see it kind of slipping through her fingers being in this dynamic and she asks about patty she asks about Luke [SPEAKER_00]: That's when she picks up the picture of her breaking her leg and she's like, I never knew this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I never knew that you broke her leg and Laura like says, if I had been really sick, you would have known that's when Emily not in the way that she does in Emily in Wonderland when she sees the shed. [SPEAKER_00]: But that is her moment to go like, okay, I'm going to go find your father.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think she's not enough, she's like, I can't absorb anymore. [SPEAKER_01]: her. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know my daughter cup run it over. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: But not before being like, you know, you get a maid in here once a week. [SPEAKER_00]: I like it cluttered. [SPEAKER_00]: And she goes to pick up the blanket.
[SPEAKER_00]: She goes leave it mom. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she goes to clean up. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, leave it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And Emily comes downstairs to Richard and said it's time to go now. [SPEAKER_00]: And I really do think that's because she's she can't handle any more emotionally.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Richard couldn't handle it long ago. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: You went outside, but also, but then he says, lovely party. [SPEAKER_00]: I enjoy the reading material immensely. [SPEAKER_01]: that's like that Richard Gilmour like oh my gosh let's use a costume for his attention some in some ways he's just given some reading material you know give him that's not what it is and that's fine that's the challenge that I love with him is like he could have been like oh right gave me this weirdo magazine to read no he probably has so many tips I don't want to do with this eyeliner now you know yeah [SPEAKER_00]: And I kind of want to talk about how he would have reacted if Laura had given it to him versus were he giving it to him.
[SPEAKER_00]: More on that next week. [SPEAKER_00]: And also more on the envelope he gives her for fuzz. [SPEAKER_00]: You already took care of fuzz. [SPEAKER_00]: Fuzz is a big place. [SPEAKER_00]: Is it? [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: Never looked. [SPEAKER_01]: Probably need to envelopes, you know.
[SPEAKER_00]: True. [SPEAKER_00]: But in the car, Emily is very stricken with a lot of emotion. [SPEAKER_00]: I think her, like you said, her cup runeth over by the time she gets in the car, she is really reflecting on just spending one hour, maybe 30 minutes, however long they were there in her world.
[SPEAKER_00]: has completely shifted her perspective. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know my daughter at all, which is what's so interesting that Richard just seemed so not unbothered, but he was like, well, had a great time, write a magazine, must go home. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, like it just doesn't seem to impact him the same way that again, like he feels like an accessory to Emily as they were at the party.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he really does feel like an accessory to her emotions here, in the sense that he is affected, that she's affected. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's less about like this affected me. [SPEAKER_00]: And that brings us back to kind of what Kenzie talked about with us a couple of weeks ago in that idea of like, where was Richard in all this?
[SPEAKER_00]: Where was his head? [SPEAKER_00]: Where was his heart? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, we don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people in the comments when we talked about, you know, where was Richard Gilmore? [SPEAKER_00]: We're like, well, Laura, like, kept Lori from them for years. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think this episode, we really need to dissect a little bit deeper when it comes to that dynamic because we learn a lot.
[SPEAKER_00]: Laura says to Emily, you don't even know what she wants because you don't know her. [SPEAKER_00]: You've never tried to know her. [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder how much truth there is to that. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I will say to that though. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like Emily tries way harder.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like Emily is the one who was like leading the charge to try to tend to the relationship that Richard doesn't feel as bothered that he doesn't know her or like doesn't make the attempt because as much as he knows about her, it's kind of like the extent of what he does want to know. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't really like he's not seeking out information from Roy as much as like Roy comes to him.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he appreciates that. [SPEAKER_01]: He just seems like that kind of person in general. [SPEAKER_01]: unless someone's telling him, he's not going looking for the information. [SPEAKER_01]: He's not much of a conversation maker. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I also feel like like a hallmark of so many of these moments where they come to stars hollow where you're looking for that shift in like the power dynamic of like who has the upper hand here, who feels like they can [SPEAKER_01]: manipulate the situation better, but I think that so much of where these episodes end or where these interactions end is there's always an emotional shift.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like someone has left this situation feeling very different than when they arrived changed. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or that like they feel like it's much more obvious to the audience at their feeling this way. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that that's really the setup, and I mean, honestly, any sort of power dynamic in a family, when you leave that situation, you're always going to be emotionally impacted by that.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard not to, it's your parents, it's your daughter, like, however that, like, shakes out, that always is going to be very palpable. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that I like that we definitively see that every time, whether positive or negative, because that I think that, of course, we're going to skip Emily and Wonderland, because I was just a specifically Emily coming.
[SPEAKER_01]: But as much as it feels quite, I guess negative on Emily's part hurt full when we end, when they leave Roy's birthday parties, when we go into the bracelet's dinner, I feel like that one ends quite well. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I like when they come to lower-rise place of work. [SPEAKER_01]: and see that is very different than going to Lorely's home.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: As I continue to watch these episodes and watch Emily and Richard arrive at the end of Hunan's Inn for the Bracebridge dinner for Suki's wedding, the Dragonfly Inn in Ringcoats and Recipes, they don't really necessarily treat that like her territory, as much as they do her home.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it feels more like neutral ground. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it feels like there is of like a respectfulness when they're together for the space for her role that they kind of step back just a little bit at first because the Bracebridge dinner is interesting because this is really about the dynamic between Emily and Richard more than it is between Emily and Richard and Laura Lyon Roy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And yes, they're there, but it's not that's not the focus of this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: The focus of this episode, of course, like the Gilmourse coming is is a big deal, but there are so many people there and there are so many dynamics to contend with that the dynamic shift is really enrichered because he's been at odds with Emily.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's been at odds with basically everybody in his life because he is secretly retired and hasn't [SPEAKER_00]: told anybody and this is what comes out. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting to me that like the emotional play ground Really runs the gambit during this episode throughout the end of penance in the gammars treat The end of penance in kind of their emotional playground because almost like they're in their own home Well, I was gonna say it actually feels more impactful emotionally because they're not at their own house Because I think so much of what comes out comes out because they can't hide in the same way that they are used to [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like they don't have their all secret special loan space.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't go to the office because the door, Emily can't just like, you know, go wherever Emily goes, yeah, outside hiding the pool house, like there's like places you can go on your own home to find. [SPEAKER_01]: piece and saw us in separation. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that you have to discover them in the end.
[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, you're going to end up discovering the same places. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's quite fun. [SPEAKER_01]: I think this one's just so different when it comes to the Gilmore's because like Richard is very playful and like very flirty. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're friendly and fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're not really, we don't see any judgment from them for the people around them. [SPEAKER_01]: They're just like swapping stories, sharing experiences, talking to Taylor Docey. [SPEAKER_01]: And it just feels like a fun experience for lore lie to get to see her parents like this because they seem like truly out of water here, like they are in a completely new place, but they're kind of accepting it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But again, like you said, it is completely dependent on Richard's honesty and like how he's feeling about this situation when he finally does reveal that he is retired secretly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: But it's also interesting to see where we started the [SPEAKER_00]: And Emily and Richard still, he hasn't retired yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't made that switch yet. [SPEAKER_00]: And so they're still this like elephant in the room in this anger. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and this resentment that Richard's holding on to that we kind of learn about in presenting Laura like Gilmore in the debut on episode when it comes out why he's so miserable.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's so unhappy. [SPEAKER_00]: But you know, that has lingered and it has settled at the beginning of the Bracebridge dinner episode at Friday night dinner at their house. [SPEAKER_00]: And then when we see him in stars hollow, there's this joy and this like light hardness that exists within Richard and obviously we then learn that it's because he has decided to leave his job.
[SPEAKER_00]: but I just love that when he enters into this town, that seems way more light-hearted, and just a little more whimsical if you will, then the normal day-to-day mundane nature of the go-more residents, which they do feel more comfortable, and I'm sure Richard feels more comfortable in, but when he steps outside of that box.
[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of sinks into the whimsy that is Star's Hollow and I know that that is he does and I know that that is due to the fact that he is just quit his job But yes, but it's like rubbing off on Emily too because when they're writing in the carriages Oh, but that's what I was just about to bring up like posters when or when else would they have been writing in a horse-drawn sleigh during their day-to-day in Hartford [SPEAKER_01]: You know, unless they sought that about roller coasters and Emily had agreeing to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and I just think there's something so sweet about that, that like this episode for all into the purposes, like one of the main emotional arcs is Richard and Emily. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what's so fascinating about them being there. [SPEAKER_01]: But I also feel like in terms of the emotions of it that when and like this is definitely again, one of those things that we'll have to talk about in an Emily centric episode in terms of her being in star's hollow.
[SPEAKER_01]: is that Laura Lye feels a lot more open to not like fight back against her mom but like be more emotionally intelligent in the way that she communicates with her mom. [SPEAKER_01]: And like when Emily comes and she can't stand being with Richard so she shows up with her door and she's going to sleep in their room.
[SPEAKER_01]: When Emily goes to late down Laura Lye is kind of appealing to her like that job was [SPEAKER_00]: because she could see it too. [SPEAKER_00]: But she didn't feel that like agency to really speak up about that at Friday night dinner because I don't want to get it twisted here. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura like does still feel agency to be honest and herself and you know, to stand her ground at Friday night dinner.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think that she feels more agency to do those things when she is in a more comfortable spot. [SPEAKER_01]: But I also feel like it's like more like emotionally impactful. [SPEAKER_01]: It's done with a lot more tact and it's also accompanied by this sense of like, this one is not so much advice.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like pointing out the obvious, but she often gives Emily advice that Emily accepts. [SPEAKER_01]: that Emily takes to heart, that she doesn't immediately just like push back on. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: There's like a softness where they feel like they can like, or at least Laura can communicate something that lands.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like when they're at the Gilmore's house in Hartford, those things don't always land. [SPEAKER_01]: They usually are like returned with a sharp bar, like in something being said. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that's also because Laura Li grew up there. [SPEAKER_00]: That was always the dynamic in that house, was that she was the child and they were the parents.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there is something that shifts when your parents come to your house when you're grown human. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, advice. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We talked about that recently about like, I'm the mom now. [SPEAKER_01]: I am the authority figure someday.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: You have the mom part. [SPEAKER_01]: I have the mom card exactly and it feels like more of like level playing ground. [SPEAKER_01]: Like is really what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like no one really has the upper hand there. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just that she is telling her this and it lands well.
[SPEAKER_01]: She does decide to get up and she's like I'm not tired, I'm leaving and she goes to find Richard or she doesn't go to find him. [SPEAKER_01]: She discovers him because again, they are forced into each other's orbit because they don't have their secret special all-known space. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye, it's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell you and I and I love that scene. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that scene's beautiful. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it would have happened in the same way. [SPEAKER_01]: Had they been at their house and I love that we get to see it in star's hollow. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we would have seen it if they weren't in star's hollow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: We would have heard about it. [SPEAKER_01]: But as I was watching this episode, you know who pops up and I like. [SPEAKER_01]: The schooled was Armand Booty, who, of course, are Marvelous Time listeners, our besties over on Patreon. [SPEAKER_01]: No Jackie, because Booty plays Jackie at the gaslight in, in, not Marvelous Time.
[SPEAKER_01]: In the Marvelous Mrs. Macellum. [SPEAKER_01]: And when I saw him as Booty, I was like, fine. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, my man, my man, my man. [SPEAKER_00]: We love him so much. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that he's in the scene when Richard is talking about. [SPEAKER_00]: Share and the Mozart and he's listening.
[SPEAKER_00]: Probably he's definitely at least seven beers. [SPEAKER_00]: He's probably sad. [SPEAKER_00]: But he's having a great time. [SPEAKER_00]: Listen, I just love that he's on the outskirts of this conversation. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, just thinking about the dinner that the Gilmore is this is like the most like off the wall dinner They've ever had there with Bootsie.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were Taylor do see there with Clara Forster like this is the most odd ball group of people They've been lined with I know I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: I do too. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it But I had to I had to mention Bootsie because you have to or Bootsie call out. [SPEAKER_00]: You love him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I actually think the Bracebridge dinner might be the last time we see Bootsie [SPEAKER_01]: He said, yeah, and then he didn't even do. [SPEAKER_01]: And then he time travels back to the pet. [SPEAKER_01]: No, we had this like theory that Jackie is actually Bootsie's dad and he moved from New York to star's hollow and opened up a new stand there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because he loves to gossip that Jackie. [SPEAKER_00]: He does. [SPEAKER_01]: But Bootsie is at the end of the episode as everyone's leaving and Richard and Emily are bidding farewell to Roy and Laura Lye. [SPEAKER_01]: And I just feel like that's such a nice ending, if not kind of scandalous on their part.
[SPEAKER_01]: But when she says, by dad, he says, by lower life. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just so it ends so well in comparison to the last time they were there. [SPEAKER_01]: And comparison to the next time he's there. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, because the Richard and stars hollow, we're going to skip over for now because we have a Richard episode coming next week about his dynamic with lower line and his dynamic with worry and how different they are and I think that's going to be there of course because of father's day, but yeah, it is interesting to me that the next couple of times that either one or both of the Gilmores, the elder Gilmores are there are at the independent sin.
[SPEAKER_00]: until we get season three because we have a can't get started. [SPEAKER_00]: They come to Suki's wedding. [SPEAKER_01]: And I love the circumstances surrounding that. [SPEAKER_00]: I do too because again, it's kind of the same in that like a Friday at Friday night dinner. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a different air about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think because they feel more comfortable being like, Oh, so it's a pity and fight. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they show up to the end of Penisend. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like, of course, where you, of course, we were coming. [SPEAKER_00]: And what have been rude not to show up? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it was rude in writing about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a rude invite, but it'd be even rude or not to show up. [SPEAKER_01]: But I love that she says that it's called Rising of Heaven. [SPEAKER_01]: She's like, would you like to lower back down for a drink? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that one, again, when they show up, Richard gets out of the scene so fast.
[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like so much of them coming to Star's Hollow is really so that Emily and Laura can have. [SPEAKER_01]: off-site interaction really is totally, but I had like actually the dumbest realization when I was prepping for this last night. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh my gosh, Richard leaves and it's like really about Lorelie and Emily, like this is like a mother daughter show.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's finally arrived ladies and I was like ladies and gentlemen, she's finally arrived. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't just in our band us in, yeah, I was like, oh, okay, Haley, we're, we're think, it's like the time I thought that I invented movies, we're thinking thoughts, yeah, thinking thoughts, so.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is about Mother Dr. Chal. [SPEAKER_00]: Didn't know if you knew. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it was just from the perspective of like, we get Richard out the scene so fast. [SPEAKER_01]: We just, yeah, even when they're there together, insert hollow both of the gumwars, supposed to both of the elder gumwars.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still really about Loreline Emily. [SPEAKER_00]: It is, but it also does speak to Richard's dynamic with Loreline, because he's excited to see Christopher. [SPEAKER_01]: He's so excited to see Christopher. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, we'll talk about that next week. [SPEAKER_00]: The next time that we see them in Star's Hollow, technically, is in let the game speak in.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that episode is really about them all leaving to go to Yale. [SPEAKER_00]: But there is a little bit, a little moment where they come to pick them up and take them to Yale. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's funny to me that Laura Lies kind of in this frenzy of having Lori Pack. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's a whole list of things when you go on a day trip with the Gilmorsers, a specific set of rules and Laura Lies going to follow them.
[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter that they're coming to pick her up. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's a matter that she doesn't believe in them. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it doesn't matter that she doesn't think that she needs any of these things. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: She is going to acquiesce to exactly what Emily wants.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that sometimes it's because it's easier. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, this doesn't take much from her to just pack everything from the list. [SPEAKER_01]: And hearing the Rory hadn't packed from the list. [SPEAKER_01]: Who famously what is worry love a list a thing to do? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and she was like, this isn't saying and she was like No, what are you talking about you didn't pack?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I love that I think that that's quite interesting that like she in this moment is like complete [SPEAKER_01]: completely act. [SPEAKER_01]: We're asking to her parents or her parents. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it's still like their car their trip their school their rules, you know Yes, and she comes out like lower life still like is a little to find she comes out with her coffee and I'm least like now Let me see you drink it.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's got her head out the window [SPEAKER_01]: See the balance of that is what's so excellent about what Amy does with their relationship of like For a like no we're packing to the tea you have to include everything you need to umbrella and a raincap and a spare swimsuit Because what if you're some super aches and then she walks out the door and she's like yeah, I'm gonna drink this Yeah, I'm the cars.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm gonna hang out my head out the window. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not gonna drink it in the car [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But then a few episodes later, they all come to lower-rise house because Grand wants to see her house in that old deck. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is a mercy episode with the Winter Carnival.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's funny how how you were talking about lower-light offering advice or something emotional to Emily and her receiving it more when she's outside of her normal environment and in the Gilmore girls environment. [SPEAKER_00]: And that really I think is exemplified here in this [SPEAKER_00]: This is where I started to realize that.
[SPEAKER_01]: That I was like, this was the one that I like applied to all of the other circumstances because I was like, oh, this is, and I think maybe watching it in reverse helped that because it's finally watched this and then I went back to the other ones and I was like, oh, this is the magic to the two of them totally because this is like, this is an Emily and Laura like moment, but it's attached to and important to the reason.
[SPEAKER_01]: that things happen when they are all together, definitely, which is like the grand, like how to deal with how to deal with grand. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, how to deal with grand, which like that's another one that grand and Richard feel like the same person in this episode, just in the session.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just in the session. [SPEAKER_01]: They really do become kind of one force, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And this this episode is less about the power dynamic between Emily and Laura lie. [SPEAKER_00]: It's there But it's more about grand and Emily and it always won't be whenever grand enters the chat Emily just turns into a puddle and Is trying to get control anything she sees is some of it in this episode with the that'll do pig line when she's Yes, the independent sin just cut up that green being into seven million pieces [SPEAKER_00]: and extending their their eating time.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Laura likes to want to teach her to do that. [SPEAKER_00]: And I I love that Laura lie and Emily kind of become this force against Richard and Grant. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that she teaches her defense mechanism, but she teaches her the defense mechanism. [SPEAKER_01]: She uses against her her.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what's so like honest about this is that Emily, she's a little taken aback by it, but she is also like, [SPEAKER_01]: deeply curious about it like so like you're you take pleasure like out of my like I forgot exactly what she were where she uses but like basically like when her disapproval she was like sometimes I feed into it like sometimes I like purposefully go after it and it's just a defense mechanism to be amused and Emily takes that and she like you know she internalizes it even though [SPEAKER_01]: It's so fascinating to me that she can be honest in that way and I think that they couldn't have done that on the couch during drinks if right in a dinner probably not the only reason I would disagree is because of the moment We get in dear Emily in Richard when it comes over with the DVD player.
[SPEAKER_00]: She like really strong arms So she's like I don't care what you say I'm bringing the CBD player. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you have no saying it. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's really the only time that I think [SPEAKER_01]: that I can think of just in the immediate moment, but not so much like using her against her.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's definitely not. [SPEAKER_01]: She's doing here. [SPEAKER_01]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_01]: And for her. [SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's interesting that Emily tries to see his control over Lorelie in an effort to deflect grand judgment by being like, I'm coming over. [SPEAKER_00]: I have flowers.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll get the key from the dictator or the fraud or whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: She's moving furniture. [SPEAKER_00]: She's going to completely redecrate their house and Lorelie comes over and she's like, hold it right there. [SPEAKER_00]: We're not doing this. [SPEAKER_00]: And instead, Laura Lies Tactics are actually the one that Emily uses to kind of take back a little bit of her power over grand situation.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that subsequently gives Laura Lies the upper hand. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, that'll do pick. [SPEAKER_00]: That'll do. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: Which I love. [SPEAKER_01]: And like this one made me really excited to continue on with the Emily and Star's Hollow, because I think that there's something about like Emily feeling comfortable.
[SPEAKER_01]: to kind of have sort of like an existential crisis at lower-rise house. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, talking about like all of the problems with grand, but later on in season four, when she comes over and she is juicy on a rear end. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, that moment too. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's just so much.
[SPEAKER_01]: And like, we're not going to talk about here. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like the ultimate tease. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, we're not going to be talking about Evelyn's heart's hollow here. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, we will talk about it in the future, and I'm quite excited to do so, because there's just so much to quote.
[SPEAKER_01]: for a life. [SPEAKER_01]: But juicy moments. [SPEAKER_01]: Talk about. [SPEAKER_01]: I completely agree. [SPEAKER_00]: But moving on to season four, we really don't see them arrive and starts hollow again until this season for finale. [SPEAKER_00]: Ringcoats and recipes when they're doing the test run at the Dragonfly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just love the way this kind of parallels up against the Bracebridge dinner because there's so many similarities. [SPEAKER_00]: Lourolai and Rory really strong arm them into coming to the end during a time of conflict between the two of them. [SPEAKER_00]: And the brief dinner, it's Richard and his turmoil about his job and the impending retirement.
[SPEAKER_00]: And here it's that they are definitely separated and they haven't admitted it to the girls. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And I love that maybe the plan on Rory's end because Rory's the one that really drives it in the brief bridge dinner and Lourolai's the one that drives it in ring coats and recipes.
[SPEAKER_00]: But for Rory, I think she's like, let's just put him in a room together and see what happens. [SPEAKER_00]: in season two and in season four, Laurel is like, let's just put him in a room together and let her come out, come out, reconcile or come out dead in a body bag. [SPEAKER_00]: And I love that these two circumstances and episodes go in two very different directions for the Kilmores, one as in reconciliation and one as in true separation.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're done. [SPEAKER_00]: It's over. [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, oh my gosh, you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: I actually with love and I don't know like how like the best way to do this is to like compare the Brace Bridge dinner as a whole against raincoats and recipes Because of like how it kind of ends the glance bridge dinner, which doesn't Dean, but it ends up Dean and over all I just would love to discuss to those because it's feel quite interesting, but neither here nor there at this point But I just love that Laura uses that moment.
[SPEAKER_01]: They arrive to manipulate them [SPEAKER_01]: is like she is strong arming them. [SPEAKER_01]: She has the upper hand here because she knows and they know that she knows but they're not going to acknowledge that she knows by confirming for her and so she's going to put so much pressure on them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's just something that couldn't happen as we've like as we see at the end of season four they show up for dinner They try to ask them questions. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I won't accept it, but on her on her turf at the end She is going to do whatever she can. [SPEAKER_01]: She is going to work now.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's going to be out of them [SPEAKER_00]: And she does. [SPEAKER_01]: And she does. [SPEAKER_01]: And the way that they like Emily comes in yelling, I just love it. [SPEAKER_01]: I love it so much. [SPEAKER_01]: It's been Jason's there. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he has a room. [SPEAKER_01]: He has a room.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, he doesn't. [SPEAKER_00]: You liar. [SPEAKER_00]: It's excellent. [SPEAKER_00]: It's excellent. [SPEAKER_00]: The way that like that all explodes. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to get an episode. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, a fantastic episode. [SPEAKER_00]: I actually would love to compare the bridge bridge dinner up against ring coats and recipes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very similar episodes in very different ways. [SPEAKER_01]: Very different ways. [SPEAKER_00]: Because it's almost like Laura Lye becomes Rory in that. [SPEAKER_00]: You've got Jason versus Luke. [SPEAKER_00]: You've got Jess versus Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_00]: I know.
[SPEAKER_00]: And like the the episode, ring coats and recipes like the end of last week, fights the sweet tites is just coming to her being like, I need to talk to you run away with me and she says, no, and then she ends up choosing Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: And the bracelet dinner is really the first time that we see like, oh, there is a spark here between Justin Murray.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the episode before that is run away, little boy. [SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, run away a little boy. [SPEAKER_00]: So there's also a little runaway moment there. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: Fascinating. [SPEAKER_00]: Dang. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're going to have to talk about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Potentagus to the end. [SPEAKER_00]: Yup. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: Wow. [SPEAKER_01]: Look at this. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the top. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the top. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the top. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the top. [SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you guys want to listen to that one. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk about it. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk about that one. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's move into season six because we don't see the Gilmore's in star's hollow together. [SPEAKER_00]: Emily comes, uh, Richard comes, but in season five, they don't arrive together at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not until season six that we start to see that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because all of their arrivals are separated because there's a lot of tension. [SPEAKER_01]: Of course, Emily comes because she comes to yellow Luke, but Richard comes because there's [SPEAKER_01]: And that's why he keeps showing up in six.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like again, they have like an insurance claim they need to fulfill because no one understands because he, you know, gave them a policy that they don't normally give to small businesses because it seems like he does really big companies. [SPEAKER_01]: And the only times we see him is like him trying to appeal to Boralai to make a plan to get worry back to Yale.
[SPEAKER_01]: She says a line that for some reason I can't stop quoting in a Marvelous time, which is I had a plan. [SPEAKER_01]: You change a plan plans gone baby plans gone baby Yeah, I like I don't I don't I don't know why I keep that keeps coming up But all of this is a precursor to Friday night's already for fighting and this is when the dynamic really shifts between them Because I think that there is kind of a common ground and understanding between them that they're all going to make more of an effort [SPEAKER_00]: that just didn't exist in all of these individual arrivals from Emily and Richard and Star's Hollow.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the next time that we see them there is in I'm okay, you're okay. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's quite interesting how they end up there because Laura and I accidentally invite them because they're on the road, they're calling, they're trying to get directions because their GPS is just not working.
[SPEAKER_00]: Love that moment. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we're not calling to me from the car is something that I have to say to my mother all the time. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, all right, lower your waist and I'm right here, see I had that problem so often when I like in the car with my mom and she doesn't speak her phone And I'll like make on a side to her and whoever's on the phone can hear me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh Oh my gosh, I forgot it don't need to talk very loud, but [SPEAKER_01]: All that aside, um, or Laura likes us to Emily, like, oh, it's so such a bummer that you didn't tell us you were coming by, you could have stopped by, like, um, that sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, well, we still can't.
[SPEAKER_01]: We weren't going to be part of very long. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we can be there soon. [SPEAKER_01]: When should they expect us for 30 and Laura likes like, well, no, we worry, and I had worries here. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [UNKNOWN]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, matter herself, but it's like, it's one of those things that she just still goes along with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They clean up the house, they have suki-bring food, that it just costs a lot of suki. [SPEAKER_01]: Pasta alas suki, bleenies, which I love the whole thing that suki thought. [SPEAKER_00]: She has maybe pregnant because her parents are due soon. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, no, my parents.
[SPEAKER_01]: my parents and I think that while they're there, of course like they feel slided because Laura liked renovated her house and they hadn't seen it yet and everything is so different according to Emily. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah but they don't seem super no one seems to upset. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean Laura like is literally counting the minutes they've been there for three hours and 14 minutes when they actually leave.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't feel like it's like a strong sense of like, let's make this not happen. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, there was a way for Laura like to like, not let's happen. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course. [SPEAKER_00]: But you can tell there's a little bit of like the Richard and Star's Hollow energy in her that's just like, especially when Luke comes to the door and she opens it.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's like, my parents are here. [SPEAKER_01]: Quickly, turn back on. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Lori sets the air to 55 degrees so that they don't linger. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, like there is. [SPEAKER_01]: There is like a sense that they want them out of the house because they [SPEAKER_01]: have plans with them, but I don't think that Emily and Richard are too harsh here, that she, this is where we realize that they are going to start looking for them at home in Star's Hollow, because she loves Star's Hollow, and she loves her home, and I think that that's quite, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Emily seems to see her here that like there's like a little connection that's made Amongst her trying to push her out of her house, but they still make the effort They don't just show up to the Gilmore's house with nothing to eat Completely messy home, which would have been a perfect way to get them out She still wants to show up for them by like stuffing everything in the bath tub, Rory [SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be hard to explain, as they say in the comments, go upstairs to see the right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh-oh. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I remember talking about that. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, hmm, how are you going to pass on one off? [SPEAKER_00]: How are you going to pass that off, which is exactly what Rory feels like? [SPEAKER_01]: But I just think it's quite interesting that they still make the effort that they didn't make before.
[SPEAKER_01]: that the effort that's happening now didn't need to happen, but in like a Friday night's alright for a fighting, they still do. [SPEAKER_01]: They still feed them like they're showing up at their house out of the blue. [SPEAKER_01]: What do they need to do for them? [SPEAKER_01]: Nothing, but they still make the effort.
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though they're counting down the minutes till they don't wait. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a strong drug's to position those two thoughts, but they're... [SPEAKER_01]: that's the duality of Laura Lye really. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the Gilmors arrive in the Real Polynca. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and next week because they are looking at buying a house in Stur's Hollow.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I love [SPEAKER_00]: kind of juxtaposing this up against Rory's birthday parties. [SPEAKER_00]: Like when you said that you watched Bon Voyage and then and then Rory's birthday parties, those two, like I mentioned at the beginning, are like two very beautiful, full circle parallel moments.
[SPEAKER_00]: However, with this, I love that they feel comfortable enough. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not looking for an actual house for themselves, but the idea is lower life things that they are because I of course, because Kirk, Kirk told her, [SPEAKER_00]: I love that they feel comfortable enough, the way that they do in this episode to just frolic about the town.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know something that you would have never expected from them in the first season. [SPEAKER_00]: They just frolic about town. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, Richard's like, I'll be right back. [SPEAKER_00]: I got to go over here. [SPEAKER_00]: They're walking around Emily's playing Go Fish with some strange child trying to bond the April with not April, Nardini.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who are you? [SPEAKER_00]: It's so funny. [SPEAKER_00]: And I just love that they feel so comfortable to do this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Until they run into Lorelie and they're calling a secret. [SPEAKER_01]: So they allow themselves to be manhandled by her. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Into trying to reveal what is going on. [SPEAKER_01]: She takes them and teaking. [SPEAKER_01]: She's like, you know, disparaging the town, which Taylor is not a fan of. [SPEAKER_00]: But oh my god, I love that voice so much. [SPEAKER_01]: And wait, when Richard turns to Taylor and goes, this is Gropi McGee, I was gonna say we were talking last week about like, Tony interactions.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is one of my favorites. [SPEAKER_01]: This is Gropi McGee, I know. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a Richard line, but like it's two Taylor, so it felt like it could have been a Tony line, but like, this is Gropi McGee. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, times we're gonna say that, I just, I so good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I feel like this one is so different because they're trying to keep something from lower-lie about them being in town, but like obviously she's going to wonder why they're there and they kind of split off, go off on their own, try and, you know, to do per, but like they're never going to, but I like the attempt that they make.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like that Emily feels like comfortable enough to turn to Caesar and it's like, you knew that wasn't Luke's dog. [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's so good. [SPEAKER_00]: You, you knew that wasn't Luke's daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's also one of my favorite Tony interactions.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the last time that they're there together. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's together. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, this is all of them together. [SPEAKER_01]: And again, it's another sentimental moment. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like Richard is really good about sentimental feelings in. [SPEAKER_00]: starts hauling.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, like, I'm pretty sure you towards Laura lie. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm pretty sure business multiple times when he's at independence in versus the dragonfly. [SPEAKER_01]: And then again, to see the community that she is gathered around. [SPEAKER_01]: Worry and [SPEAKER_01]: to support them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's something that he just does quite well and seeing at her men like all of those compliments. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like actually crying like the environment when he says to her and we'll talk again about this more next week when he says I wrote the quote down, but my notes aren't loading.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it takes a really remarkable person to inspire all of this is like, oh my god. [SPEAKER_01]: And like, he doesn't say you're a remarkable person to inspire all of this. [SPEAKER_01]: It's very indirectly that it takes a remarkable person and so thus she is a remarkable person. [SPEAKER_00]: And I just who brings me back to the pilot where he's like, how's the motel?
[SPEAKER_00]: You know? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you must like, oh, worry. [SPEAKER_00]: You're pretty smart. [SPEAKER_00]: You must take after your father. [SPEAKER_00]: And then like one of his parting lines to her is it takes a really remarkable person to inspire all of this is like so beautiful beyond.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And I like that Emily still like won't completely sink into the moment. [SPEAKER_01]: She's still a little on edge, but also very soft because she was like, well, don't wear jeans. [SPEAKER_01]: It's right in my dinner. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course, but I think it's because she refuses to accept kind of breaking the fourth wall that this is the end.
[SPEAKER_00]: And she is doing everything she can. [SPEAKER_00]: She's grasping a straws because she doesn't want worries leaving to be the end of friend and night dinners of them seeing Laura lie because as we've mentioned before, we feel like Emily's goal is always to be to stay alive always, keep her in her life.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, she's still one that proposes the idea of the spa and it's again, like I think that she is just using as a means to stay in her life. [SPEAKER_01]: And yes, when Laura likes to live on the money. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll talk about it next week. [SPEAKER_01]: Friday night dinner.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Emily needs to meet her completely. [SPEAKER_01]: that just like gave me chills because like thinking of Emily like desperately trying to cling to her daughter and then she she's gonna be there and it's like oh the relief I imagine she fell in that moment but beautiful magical and I feel like that as we know it's not written by the Paladino's but I do feel like what the strong representation of how the Gilmore show up individually [SPEAKER_01]: and together in stars hollow of like Richard is more likely to maybe give a compliment choke, helpfully, and Emily is more likely to show up to kind of fight for her relationship in some way, round about way, very Emily way with Laura Lie, and I thank her that fight for her fight with.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, fast and loose with Emily, which one it is, but I think that that one is a really good ending. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I just sorry season 7. [SPEAKER_01]: I know that I have a lot of hate for you, but you're new too. [SPEAKER_00]: But that that finale is is very strong. [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that a lot.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just love the idea of paralleling voice birthday parties and bomb voyage, and specifically the Gilmours up against one another because the Emily is partying line to lower-light in voice birthday parties is like, we'll see you Friday night. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And the same is true of bomb voyage, so it's really cool to bookend.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: The Gilmours and their stars hollow excursions, because as we mentioned, they're few and far between. [SPEAKER_00]: We talked today about 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 episodes out of the 25 that they're there together. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And that, that, honestly, is a small percentage that nine out of the 153 original episodes are the Gilmors there together.
[SPEAKER_00]: And nine out of the 25 that they are there at all. [SPEAKER_00]: So I find that to be really, really interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of those episodes are Emily episodes, but like the remaining 14 or 16 are Emily coming to Stars Hollow, but they're going to mount the R also Richard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think there's like five or six solid Richard episodes where he makes an appearance. [SPEAKER_01]: Sans Emily and I think it's just so fascinating what their separate visits to stars hollow do for their character and the different ways that they show up. [SPEAKER_01]: and who they show up for.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because ultimately it's showing up for Laura Lye, but I think it's quite interesting the way that they interact with each of the girls very differently, specifically Richard, because like Richard and Star's Hollow is so telling about the way that he treats Laura Lye and Lori very differently.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll have more to say on that in the next episode.
