[SPEAKER_01]: Five, six, seven, eight. [SPEAKER_01]: Richard, again. [SPEAKER_01]: Again. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He's here. [SPEAKER_01]: He's back. [SPEAKER_01]: Think Daddy are right here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmour to say with Tara and Haley on Tara. [SPEAKER_00]: This is Haley.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Tara. [SPEAKER_00]: We're back to talk more Richard Gilmour and his relationship with Lorelie and Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: We had to do a two-part or on this one because we yapped for a long time about the first three seasons. [SPEAKER_01]: Before we got on, I was like, I don't know.

[SPEAKER_01]: We could maybe do it, but also I know us. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we got through the season three. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's what we did. [SPEAKER_01]: We did to the end of season three. [SPEAKER_01]: And it was like two hours that we had been talking. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh, [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, us, hello. [SPEAKER_00]: To be fair, there wasn't earthquake. [SPEAKER_00]: There were some distraction. [SPEAKER_01]: There were some distractions. [SPEAKER_01]: That was the earthquake episode, which, like, looking, watching that back, because immediately I had to see, because yeah, I was immediately an earthquake denier.

[SPEAKER_01]: Immediately said false facts. [SPEAKER_01]: I said, there aren't earthquakes in Florida. [SPEAKER_01]: What, what does that mean, Haley? [SPEAKER_01]: I'd simply don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: There could be earthquakes anywhere, I imagine. [SPEAKER_01]: But I was like, yeah, yeah, it can't end earthquakes?

[SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: But I was like, my but like, to leave. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to leave. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd just pick one struggle, really. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's too many here. [SPEAKER_00]: No, so a lot of natural disasters struggles in one place, too many. [SPEAKER_00]: Too many.

[SPEAKER_00]: Too many. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, there was a earthquake. [SPEAKER_01]: And I looked like Kevin Malone from the office. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like saying that because it's funny. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the way that I said, why is my house shaking? [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said it like Kevin and I don't know why, which is very deeply confused, but I don't know funny.

[SPEAKER_01]: But speaking of saying things weird, I did want to bring back up the conversation about STEM. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Vocal STEM. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Because Harry was texting us about our editor because she had gotten to that part of the episode. [SPEAKER_01]: And we were having a little conversation about me and my little countryism, if you will.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I was having this conversation with myself. [SPEAKER_01]: I was in bathtub last night. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why I had to say bathtub. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why I have to put my naked self into this conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: I really don't need to. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for keeping it going.

[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for drawing more attention to it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So don't picture me naked. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm in the back fully closed. [SPEAKER_01]: But I was thinking about words that rhyme that maybe don't. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you said us and them, does that rhyme with the word that we were talking about?

[SPEAKER_01]: STEM. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, does that, does those two words rhyme? [SPEAKER_01]: Us and them, like them and STEM, STEM. [SPEAKER_01]: And then, okay, does, okay, like, her and him, which one does that rhyme with? [SPEAKER_01]: Stim, okay, and if you have the edge of a dress, a trim, or a hem, yes, a hem, does that rhyme with her and, no, okay, I'm and him, see, this is where I got mixed up, because I think [SPEAKER_01]: them are all they all rhyme right but in order for them not to rhyme I Think that the reason that they sound the same is because I'd have to go further country for them to sound different like My instinct would be to say stem like you like yeah like to say stem [SPEAKER_01]: is me not having an accent, but in order to say it with an eye, it would be STEM.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like he and I was saying that, I was like, how do I say, I was like, him, him, and I was like, I'm simply not going to sound like that. [SPEAKER_00]: Say him, him, yeah, rhymes with them, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's how I'm to different to me.

[SPEAKER_01]: Him, them, yeah, those are different. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, didn't I feel different? [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm about to move differently. [SPEAKER_01]: Him, well now we're even more confused. [SPEAKER_01]: STEM. [SPEAKER_01]: I was just saying it, and he gives me, you can cut the picture, but it just imagined the audio of me going, him, STEM.

[SPEAKER_01]: because I was like him, like him and him, those all rhyme. [SPEAKER_01]: Those are three different words, but they all sound the same. [SPEAKER_00]: Interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, that's what I was thinking about last night. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I think I'm going to go more to say, I think I'm going to go more to say, I think I'd have to be country in order to say the words, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: I think in an effort to not be have a country accent. [SPEAKER_00]: To be honest with you, it was that I was confused because there is something called a vocal stem. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's just different from a vocal stem. [SPEAKER_00]: When it truly, I did not think of the difference between those two words until someone pointed it down in a comment.

[SPEAKER_00]: really funny. [SPEAKER_00]: Anytime. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, we're not here to talk about vocal stims or stems or hymns or hymns, we're, well, we're here to talk about him and that him is Richard. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, with a knife. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: With a knife.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to talk about seasons four through seven ish. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like the salmon. [SPEAKER_00]: Mostly, you know, through season six are there's at least one big moment in season seven that I really love between Richard and Warlic Pacific. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but we're really here to talk about seasons four through six because there is still a lot that happens like I know we talked last week about how seasons one through for you look massive set up for seasons four through seven [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I still stand by that, but I was doing a little deeper research because I like really emphasized the early seasons and kind of went through the later seasons when I thought we were doing this as one episode is like tethering them back. [SPEAKER_00]: And I still did that, but I want to go a little deeper this morning and prepping for this to be a separate episode.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, oh, there's there's still a lot to talk about here. [SPEAKER_01]: There is. [SPEAKER_01]: I do think that like it ties back to the earlier seasons, for sure, but as I was like looking through it, it also feels like it's like grown past some of the earlier season things.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said at the end of season two, it kind of felt like he stopped looking at her as being a motel employee and started looking at her career. [SPEAKER_01]: as something that she had worked for, and kind of being humble in her son. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So now we're like, we're hitting on different things.

[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, there's like different pieces of it that have healed, but like some of the just can't, like we talked about in, let the games begin. [SPEAKER_01]: It was more about the fact that she never did all the pieces. [SPEAKER_01]: which immediately makes think voicing the same thing, but it just it just moves along.

[SPEAKER_01]: It just moves further into what the cause and effect is. [SPEAKER_01]: But I also feel like it becomes a little bit of a blame game more in four, five and six than it did in one, two and three. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: Really, mostly, yeah, yeah, I think so. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a way of what kind of blame him who's playing the game and who's doing the blame.

[SPEAKER_01]: Richard is blaming Laura that like, when we get to six, we can discuss that, but like I feel like sometimes, I don't know, maybe I disagree with myself already after having said it, who's to say, me to say, actually already blaming yourself, I love it already. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm blaming me.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm blaming like that's me. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm the problem. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, never mind. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's start with season four episode one. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not really a milestone. [SPEAKER_00]: I just love how excited Richard is to ask Lori about her trip.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Her European trip. [SPEAKER_00]: It takes us back to their first real bonding moment in season one episode three. [SPEAKER_00]: Kill me now, which we talked about extensively last week. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that the introduction of her wanting to travel and going to fess and everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: It just brings it full circle. [SPEAKER_00]: I love how he grabs her hands and he he hooks [SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of like, this is back to the roots of their relationship and yeah, it started and then I found it and so I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: As you were talking about that though, I was kind of like, wait, he's he's not there, but I was I was mixing it up with season five episode one and that European adventure.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I was like, no, they're they're separated. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, what are we talking about, but no, beginning of four. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there is the excursion, the adventure as she's about to head off to Yale. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and it's just sweet, it's cute. [SPEAKER_00]: I also noted Season 4 episode 9 Ted Couples Big Night Out, which of course is the moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: Football game. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a big Richard episode. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of first time that we see him come to Yale and sit with Rory and it's very sweet. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that he goes so much with Paris and Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: And this episode is really about Gilmore tradition.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it really homes in on the traditions that Richard and Emily, but specifically Richard has set up for his family. [SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of takes me back to like, you're a young man. [SPEAKER_00]: Your father was a young man. [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder how much of this was rooted in his dad.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough because we don't really get a lot of context about his relationship with this father [SPEAKER_00]: She's the one who raised him as he says in the reading more live, but I think that with this it's really about carrying on the tradition with Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's something that they're finally or that he's finally involving them in because it was always like so such a point of contention about Harvard or they're going to Yale, but like all last season it was just like this like Harvard and Yale back and forth that to finally include them in this field really natural here, it doesn't feel like something that like, oh, how have they never been to this thing that they've been keeping from them.

[SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like this is like the perfect time to introduce it. [SPEAKER_01]: and that he's involving Rory and all of these things. [SPEAKER_01]: He got a block of tickets and once her, he wants to share that experience with her. [SPEAKER_01]: And I love that, but it also calls to mind that he's going to lunch at Yale with Rory.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's inviting Rory to the game. [SPEAKER_01]: And there's all these things that he can now have in common with Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: especially because he's very proud of her. [SPEAKER_01]: He's very proud to have her a his alma mater. [SPEAKER_01]: But the thing that like as we were trying to figure out how we wanted to talk about it, one of the ways that we were like thinking of approaching it was like via lunches, because he's going to see Rory because he's proud of her and excited to be where she is and wants to basically be supportive of her in this moment.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which he never does with Laurel I. [SPEAKER_01]: It's always a purpose to their lunch to give her something definitely come to her place of work because of their work relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: Never because he wants to reach out to her and have a moment with her and share a moment with her.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's quite sad, but it is the difference between the relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: Is it he's showing up for Roy in a completely different way than he ever does for the Royal Eye. [SPEAKER_01]: Equally Paris introduced her to her boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: Her next boyfriend, her next home, no.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I, it's interesting that you say that because I especially in season five and here in season four, we really sort to see how Richard [SPEAKER_00]: would rather control the environment and circumstances in lower-lies life and trusts that worry will do that on her own, specifically when it comes to Luke.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that they do go on to do the Millial party, but I think he trusts her instincts until the Millial party. [SPEAKER_00]: But with Boralai, he's like, all right, she's going to do what she's going to do, but I want to have some control [SPEAKER_01]: golf, you know, like all of those things.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I find that to be so interesting because with Rory, I think he though treats her as a bit of a doover does have a little bit more trust and faith that she's going to make the right decisions without him having to meddle. [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas I don't think Emily is the same way. [SPEAKER_01]: No, Emily is a completely different story.

[SPEAKER_01]: When it comes to their love lives, I think that when it comes to Laura Lyon Luke in season five, for him, it's less about if Laura Lyon is happy and more if they are positioned correctly in society, like it's still tough. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as it always comes back with Richard, it's always about appearances.

[SPEAKER_01]: and the proper procedure. [SPEAKER_01]: The proper procedure is to be shaved and to be franchiseed. [SPEAKER_01]: So it seems. [SPEAKER_01]: So that order. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And so I don't know if it's so much like a disappointment, like milestone with them, but it's definitely like a completely different view than Emily has.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because he says to her, it's like you're not thinking ahead. [SPEAKER_01]: because she's furious that he went and did this and took him to the club and introvert her friends but she's like no this is who she's chosen and we're gonna work with it yeah like you're you're thinking the wrong direction totally and I know I brought it up but we'll get there yeah that's not for a bit but I find it interesting that there are some differences in the way that they approach it until obviously we had a point where that kind of stops but [SPEAKER_00]: we'll get there in a second.

[SPEAKER_00]: So taking it back to season four and the football game, I find it really interesting that when more lie than expresses interest and wanting to go, they're like so thrown specifically at it. [SPEAKER_00]: You want to go to a football game? [SPEAKER_00]: You get bored, you guys see, of course, we'll get bored, but I want to go.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And he's annoyed that he has to like disembark one of his friends. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, hey, I guess. [SPEAKER_01]: But the thing is, is they do like they still at the end of the day. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they do. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to go. [SPEAKER_00]: She wants to go.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to disembark one of our friends. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: And says someone's like someone's calling that taken out. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, someone who's having some sort of procedure and they like got the wrong person. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: But they ultimately did that her go. [SPEAKER_01]: But they did kind of, you know, [SPEAKER_00]: reluctantly. [SPEAKER_00]: They thought about bringing worry. [SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if in the past they had tried to get lower light ago. [SPEAKER_01]: That's why it felt like such a perfect time to introduce it because I imagined that they were at some point tried to get her to go and she was like absolutely not over my dead body and they were like okay there's no dead body here we will not ask you again 100% and so now that they have worry and worry has a tie to the school they're like hey yeah we thought [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's exactly, it's even like blatantly kind of exemplified to us when they do get through the Harvard Yale game and they see each other and lower-rise wearing crimson and it's such a faux-pa. Yeah, by Richard says, why can't you be more like worry?

[SPEAKER_00]: And Emily says, boy, it looks perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: And I was just like [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: You're a day. [SPEAKER_01]: Why could she be like Rory? [SPEAKER_01]: And is that Lorely sweater that she's wearing? [SPEAKER_00]: She got just five minutes before you got here and she's wearing my sweater.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But she knows, to be fair to Lorely though, Rory could have been like, hey, you probably shouldn't wear the other school's color. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Hello. [SPEAKER_01]: Like they're not that like sport-averse that they don't understand teams and colors, which Tara's got colors on today.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: If you're on YouTube, we are on YouTube. [SPEAKER_01]: I call it on. [SPEAKER_00]: New York, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: This is definitely, I think, going to air after the series is over. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not saying anything. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know what's going to happen.

[SPEAKER_00]: We have hopes. [SPEAKER_01]: We have something might happen in the next of time. [SPEAKER_01]: You know? [SPEAKER_00]: Who's exactly? [SPEAKER_00]: This would be the next of time. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, you know, moving on from Ted Couples Big 9 out. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think that that's really where it, like I was considering that like Laura, I really stopped sending and tries to defend Richard, to Emily, when everything goes down with Pendle and Laude, but she shouldn't.

[SPEAKER_00]: But [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, admirable. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that she's doing that though more for Emily and like for the sake of her parents relationship, then she necessarily is for being Richard's corner. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think she's trying to diffuse the situation. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's why I don't really like call too much attention to it, but I guess I have now because I just talked about it.

[SPEAKER_01]: like me with the bathtub. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember if his episode cut. [SPEAKER_00]: It does die jerk. [SPEAKER_00]: Come before Ted Coppola. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I think it does. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, Ted Coppola is mine.

[SPEAKER_00]: Die jerk might be eight. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like right around there, but the only reason that I wrote that down is because it kind of calls to mine that same thing of the Yale lunch of Richard is really, really invested in Roy's work. [SPEAKER_01]: She brings like bags of newspapers from the Yale Daily News that her work and he is always so interested in what she's writing, but I specifically point to Dieter because there's [SPEAKER_01]: but that one because they were so supportive of her doing something that was pretty abhorrent in the way that she talked about this girl.

[SPEAKER_01]: But they were so celebratory of her that it seemed like Rory's like skill and craft was what was more important to them than like the content. [SPEAKER_01]: So it seems like the sort of thing of they were always going to be and especially Richard supportive of Rory in that way when they were way more fickle with [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that it's interesting to like try and put Laura Lyon to worry shoes and what she does and I do that a few times in these next couple episodes we're going to talk about because it's like, oh, if Laura Lyon did that, they totally would have had something else to say that they would have probably talked to her about the fact that she was really insulting or I don't know, but they're

[SPEAKER_01]: think it was great. [SPEAKER_01]: Jason wants to read it because Richard loved it so much. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that was something that I pointed to of trying to what would they do if this was Laura Lye. [SPEAKER_01]: Kind of the opposite of what would Laura Lye do. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was the guillotine. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, WWLD. [SPEAKER_00]: The next episode that I really zeroed in on was The Rain in the Lorelei, when Tricks passes away, and Richard is just an absolute disarray, and then Emily is as well, but zeroing in on Richard, I like that both Gilmore Girls have different experiences with him when it comes to sharing in his grief.

[SPEAKER_00]: Boralai, I think also really tends heavily to Emily here because Emily was the one doing everything only to discover that tricks in want Richard to marry her and that badly that she kept the carbon of the letter that she wrote him the night before they were wedding. [SPEAKER_00]: I abolish the so awful and I think that Boralai is trying to really pick up the pieces there.

[SPEAKER_00]: But it starts out with her having suki make the mock turtle soup and her bringing it into her dad. [SPEAKER_00]: And I have this moment that kind of took me back to forgiveness and stuff that it's like she's sitting with him during such a time of vulnerability. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know that she would have been able to do that in season one.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do think it took some time. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it also just took some desensitizing to like see overall disdain that she feels for her family because by season four, you would think that Laura Lai not that she wouldn't care to show up for her dad this way, but she talks so would not get heavily about her family in general.

[SPEAKER_01]: But she does have a strong sense of loyalty to them that like she shows up when the family is in distress and boy are they in distress in this episode everyone is both Richard and everybody is yeah for sure I think that the way that she shows up for Richard is also by taking over and showing up for tricks and all of her requests for her funeral that totally unless she like had that [SPEAKER_01]: relationship with her dad.

[SPEAKER_01]: She wouldn't really need to do that, but also to be fair that was also in behalf of Emily. [SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of a mixed bag of things. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a mixed bag because you can tell she's of course doing it for her dad, but she's really there as well to pick up the pieces for Emily.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when she needs a hand because she's so overwhelmed because Richard is in disbelief and grieving and then when she can't do it anymore because she also is just like, I'm not helping this woman throw her throw her in a hole. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, and so normalized, like, well, I have to pick up the pieces, but I do think that comes from a level of care for both for parents.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a little mixed, but I appreciate that like borderline has [SPEAKER_00]: I think it does come down to dealing with mortality, and seeing your parent grief for their parent is, I mean, hard. [SPEAKER_00]: And Richard even says to her, you only have one set of parents or a lie, remember that.

[SPEAKER_00]: and he's speaking of himself, but like he's also in, in a sense, just kind of like having an out-of-body experience, just just with his grief in general, and Lorela sits there with him, and brings him the soup and hands-in-the-tissues, and gets him a spoon. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and gets him a spoon, but like, this is probably really huge, where I don't think he's, I would imagine she's never ever seen him like this.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I feel like the only, like you said, the closest experience for her would be forgiveness and stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, him and this, her kind of having an out-of-body experience about him. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And then kind of experiencing it more directly with him in this way.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He's hurting so much in a very different way than in China, very different. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I like that she shows up for them, despite all of the ways that we've listed in this episode in last episode, that they're just so disappointed in her as a person, and I think the overall disdain that she expresses to all of her friends, and strangers alike about her family.

[SPEAKER_00]: And when it comes to worry when she's finally brought into the picture, she's the one that really steps up to help Richard because she did a lot of research on grand she even tells him after helping him with his bow tie where she printed out a diagram of how to do it. [SPEAKER_00]: She says, listen, like if you feel like you're too emotional to do this, I did a lot of research on grand and I am happy to do it for you and she says, I got your background paw and it's just so cute.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, their relationship is so sweet. [SPEAKER_01]: Their relationship is really sweet, especially there because like he, I feel like he has his first real lucid moment of the episode with her. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like calm enough to have a real conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's not cry through it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Just feel really, and he's is the wrong word, but it's like that's kind of what he feels with worry. [SPEAKER_01]: And I just don't think that he could do that with Lorelai in the same way. [SPEAKER_01]: There's like a tense, like a tension, a guard up that he feels like he could be softer with her.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I mean, his garden wasn't up when she came in and he was just sobbing his eyes out. [SPEAKER_00]: So like, I think that's for the old agency to do that. [SPEAKER_00]: But do you think he would do that in front of Rory? [SPEAKER_00]: Do you think he would be like that in front of Rory?

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he had a choice there about how he was feeling, but I do wonder if maybe he stiffened up a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: So I felt up early for Rory, but I think that he would have pulled himself together a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: If Rory had been the one to walk in. [SPEAKER_01]: I think, I don't know.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: It also though thinking of him walking out and seeing Jason. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not kidding. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not kidding. [SPEAKER_01]: That's so true. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm working on it. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking it was just circumstance. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll leave him behind a little more time.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because I don't think our sugar style is really giving like comfy cozy, cuddly bear helped me through my grief. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think it was just person with arms hug now. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a must hug now. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he would have with you. [SPEAKER_01]: But I do, that's fair.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he also felt comfortable in this like softness with worry that just doesn't exist. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's not necessarily like a more like doover, but maybe a great fullness that he now has a capacity to have this sort of relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: that I imagine it's not always like malicious, like this hunt for, you know, ways to have a doover with Rory that sometimes is just by happenstance that it's just a better relationship unfortunately.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, unfortunately. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course, Rory and Richard having a strong relationship isn't a bad thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just, you know, well, it's just the end of five. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just, you know, it's comparing it up against his relationship with Laura Leigh that then starts to make it feel like, oh, you know, it's like two things can be true at once.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can be happy for Rory and you can feel for Laura Leigh. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I think that's an institution is there. [SPEAKER_01]: Why don't necessarily feel bad for Laura Leigh? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm grateful that Richard has this relationship with Rory here, totally. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's that. [SPEAKER_00]: And later at the funeral, I love what he says to the two people who come up to offer him condolences when he says, like, oh, if you met my granddaughter worrying, she's like, I'm, you know, I'm going to go get a soda. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think she ends up with Boralayan and the two say that she's lovely and he's looking at like after her.

[SPEAKER_00]: She walks away and says inside and out. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love that. [SPEAKER_01]: I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's, you know, it's a turning point for Loreline Richard. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a turning point for Richard and Emily because of what happens with Loreline Richard. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, in tick tick tick boom, we find out that Jason's dad Floyd is suing Richard and also had a private detective on him and said, how I found on Jason and was like, hey, that's how I found out that your daughter is dating my son and it's a [SPEAKER_00]: she comes in and after boom to basically plead with him because she's now found out that Richard has chosen to essentially blacklist Jason in the business world immediately in his orbit and he's teamed back up with Floyd and he's going to have his own insurance label under the umbrella of the group that honestly ousted him back in season two.

[SPEAKER_00]: and Laura like comes to Richard and says like she's been calling him and he's like why I've ever really been in the move to talk and it's interesting because when she was like okay well I'm here and we need to talk about this he says if we're going to discuss this let's go into my office and it brought me back to season three and let the game speak in when he was like for going to be dramatic let's go outside it echoes in here like he he always wants to control the environment of the conversation so they have when she's about to like laying into [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.

[SPEAKER_00]: Home court advantage for sure. [SPEAKER_00]: He basically says like, I did what I had to do because she's like, why are you doing this? [SPEAKER_00]: And asks, are you taking this out on him because of me? [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, I think the both things are true. [SPEAKER_00]: Because he's like, did you hear what this man said?

[SPEAKER_00]: This man said he was going to take our house. [SPEAKER_00]: He was going to come after me after the lively who that I built for me and your mother. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I think two things can be true at once. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, no, I'm going to do this because this is what I need to do for survival.

[SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, yes, I am pissed at this man for lying to me and dating you. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not telling me. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he is upset with her, of course. [SPEAKER_01]: But it never, at least in my memory of this episode, because I didn't re-watch this for this research for this.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't have it like immediately clear in my mind what the dialogue was. [SPEAKER_01]: But is he upset at her for dating his business partner? [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't ever necessarily come up because at the end of TikTok tech boom, when Jason follows Richard, and says, like, I'm gonna make things right.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says, like, did you have anything to do with these clients? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, did you break your contract? [SPEAKER_00]: Did you break your India and he says, no, and then he says, how long have you been deemed? [SPEAKER_01]: It's like it's clear like and he doesn't throw her under Texas.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we always love about Jason is And he takes the fall for he does all of that when he really he could be like I wanted to tell you I Wanted to do so many times and she didn't want to tell which I think would have changed the dynamic 100% he didn't allow for that, but [SPEAKER_01]: At the end of the day, I think that that is way more of a vehicle for Laura like to break up with Jason and be with Luke and for Richard and Emily to have further strife.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't necessarily think it was a strong pull towards Richard and Laura lie to have drama between the two of them, but it is a byproduct of that. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I mean, I think what he says to her here is very pointed and does like how the like puts puts a bit of definition on their relationship and how he feels about her at least in this moment because she shifts from like, why are you doing this.

[SPEAKER_00]: to him dismissing her and her like going into pleading and it's really sad because you can tell this feels like a conversation and that's oftentimes how I feel about Laura live when she's talking to her dad. [SPEAKER_00]: Less so when she's talking to Emily. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Is that she turns into a 16 year old girl again?

[SPEAKER_00]: She says no dad, please. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry I lied to you about me and Jason but you can't destroy him like this. [SPEAKER_00]: He's talking about moving, leaving. [SPEAKER_00]: She literally pleases with him. [SPEAKER_00]: She puts her hands like that. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, please dad, do not do this.

[SPEAKER_00]: And like I feel like that's a conversation and [SPEAKER_00]: young are like under his roof under his rules and he's so dismissive of her. [SPEAKER_00]: So what? [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm in a relationship with him. [SPEAKER_00]: Then go with him. [SPEAKER_00]: And the thing is, is that, like, putting worry and more in this position that lower lies in, right now, I don't think you would have spoken to her like that.

[SPEAKER_01]: No, definitely not, but I think, I think the thing is, it's like, those moments, though, feel so far for the course, not to do pun intended, not a golf pun for Richard, but I feel like those don't affect their relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: because like when it comes to, I mean, of course, we're trying to say face and ring coat and recipe.

[SPEAKER_01]: Is it recipes? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They, he still shows up for her. [SPEAKER_01]: And in season five, they're still coming to him for Friday night dinner and enjoying it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not like there's this sense of like, I'm annoyed at you still. [SPEAKER_01]: The question that I kind of have, and like, as many times as I've seen season four, I just like can't remember this, but does Richard know?

[SPEAKER_01]: that Jason wanted to stay together, but that Lorelei ended things because she couldn't be with someone who was suing her family. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we ever find out because when he does say to her, I'm tired of this Lorelei, you shown absolutely no concern about what happens to me, what happens to your mother.

[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing you care about is what happens to your boyfriend. [SPEAKER_00]: And the worst part of it is that I never expected you to act any different thing. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's easy. [SPEAKER_01]: That's why it's so like, it just only felt like he's really mad at her because it's like that soap or a lie Which is just heartbreaking because you're like, that's not what I'm trying to do here.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like of course. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, about you. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, yeah, but I think it's because she knows she's like, I can't well she doesn't know yet that Jason's doing him [SPEAKER_00]: I can't be with you with all of this turmoil going on. [SPEAKER_00]: That makes things hard because you're going to leave.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's not until Jason's like, I'm suing her father's that she was like, okay, don't. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm okay, someone don't. [SPEAKER_00]: That's doing my family. [SPEAKER_00]: But it's interesting because Richard, Laura and Jason have in a breakup, or Laura have in a choose Jason. [SPEAKER_00]: if that is what she wore to choose, which she expects her to.

[SPEAKER_00]: It does not face Richard as much as it faces Emily, because Emily comes in immediately after she overhears this conversation, of course, and she says, like, he says, what do you concerned about here? [SPEAKER_00]: And because she says, this is this really necessary, and he's like, why do you care?

[SPEAKER_00]: And she says, it took us a long time to get Laura live back into this house, and she is dating Jason. [SPEAKER_00]: What are you saying? [SPEAKER_00]: I worry that if you do this, you'll drive Laura live away again, and if she goes, [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if that's like Emily's tactic for Richard, where it's like, if you don't care about whatever more lie leaves, maybe you'll care about the fact that if Laura lie leaves, where he will leave.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, like, we can't control what Laura lie will do, where he won't go away, and I'm doing what I have to do. [SPEAKER_00]: And that is the moment for them where it goes to Blitzville. [SPEAKER_00]: Because she's like, okay, yeah, you're choosing us, you. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm choosing Laura lie and worry by proxy.

[SPEAKER_01]: I do think the Richard's right though that like he knows that they're at a point where he has a connection with her. [SPEAKER_01]: He can go see her. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not that Rory is like hidden behind Boraline now. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not just Friday night dinner. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not getting access to Rory through Boraline.

[SPEAKER_01]: He can jump at you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He can go take her to lunch. [SPEAKER_01]: He can take her to a football game. [SPEAKER_01]: He can make plans with Rory that only involve Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: He also knows that the deal that they have is between the three of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Laura is not involved so he has not that he has worry like on the hooks in like a malicious way it's just he knows that like they have a deal and it doesn't involve Laura lie and so he's not afraid of that anymore right and I still feel like the byproduct of the drama between Richard and Laura lie yeah it's just that that like it it comes back further to the Laura lie Luke dynamic and the

[SPEAKER_01]: Like Richard says, I didn't expect you to act any differently. [SPEAKER_01]: And I honestly at the end of the day feel like Laura I didn't expect Richard to act any differently, but they both had this like, but I kind of hope you would. [SPEAKER_00]: But I kind of hoped you would to take it back to your earlier question.

[SPEAKER_00]: When they do go to the end and ring coats and recipes, that's out of obligation to keep their separation still from the girls. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not ready to tell them that is all about keeping up appearances. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the only reason that they're there. [SPEAKER_00]: And she does say like how long have I been working towards this?

[SPEAKER_00]: 20 years and it would mean a lot to me if you guys were there. [SPEAKER_00]: And so they go reluctantly. [SPEAKER_00]: They don't. [SPEAKER_00]: The thing is so is they don't have to. [SPEAKER_00]: It is for the plot that they're like keeping up appearances. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course.

[SPEAKER_00]: In the past they could have been like I'm busy. [SPEAKER_00]: Can't do it. [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I do. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like going out of town. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but they had already kind of like explained what their plans were Emily was thinking of taking a European excursion, which of course comes back in season five episode one, but when Jason shows up at the end in ringcoats and recipes Emily comes in, of course, she sees him and she's like, does he have a room and the richer he has a room.

[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you've had your fun. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, I don't know that he knows that Jason and Laura Lye ended things. [SPEAKER_00]: And it did things that Laura Lye was the one to end things. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he knows the nuance, but the lawsuit. [SPEAKER_00]: And Jason never come up again ever ever like I'm a Jason does appear in the revival But that's really exciting being there.

[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: That's their poker segment which is fair like totally I think that was a great little addition especially in his relationship to Richard [SPEAKER_01]: I actually don't think though if he knew that she broke up with him because she can't be with someone who's doing his her family.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that that would affect anything. [SPEAKER_01]: I think he'd be like, yeah, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, there is that level of life with that. [SPEAKER_00]: There is the level of, um, she did exactly what he expected. [SPEAKER_01]: And then to hear that they broke up because of that.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it would have a big impact on the way that he addresses her after that because like ultimately things kind of smooth over time with them is essential that things just kind of get swept under the rug that I don't know how much it would have had an impact on the story. [SPEAKER_00]: I want it too.

[SPEAKER_00]: I would hope that there'd be a sense of pride that Richard is like, oh my daughter finally chose me. [SPEAKER_01]: Ah, that would have been such a good reaction though. [SPEAKER_01]: I would love that. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's the thing though. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so interesting to me that Richard basically accuses Laura Lye of only caring about what happens to her boyfriend in the name of the proper procedure, yes.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he was the one that actually chose Christopher in, you know, their entire situation. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll tell you. [SPEAKER_01]: Speak if you only care what happens to my boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: You're actually only care about what happens to my boyfriend. [SPEAKER_00]: You actually chose me and I chose my daughter and I didn't choose Chris.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And you've held it against me for the last 16 years, 16 plus 20 years. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And so it's so interesting that that's what Richard expects of her. [SPEAKER_00]: You only care about what happens to your boyfriend. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't care about what happens to him.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, well, where do you think I learned that? [SPEAKER_01]: You care about my boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: You only care about my boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: You only care about my boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is interesting because as we head into season five, [SPEAKER_01]: Concern for Chris or anything like that as it relates to lower life.

[SPEAKER_01]: Just just gone Just fades. [SPEAKER_01]: He's just fades. [SPEAKER_01]: He like genuinely stops caring about this man. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry to this man Sorry to leave the picture He likes slides which Richard slides Christopher's picture back across it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, sorry to this man.

[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't care But he does care about the [SPEAKER_01]: appearances and he knows that she can be stubborn. [SPEAKER_01]: And so this is who she's chosen and he's accepted it but now he's going to fix it. [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to fix it to be what he wants it to be. [SPEAKER_01]: But like for [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what we were talking about earlier, what we touched on earlier with Luke, that Emily and Richard have two very different approaches to Laura Li dating Luke. [SPEAKER_00]: Emily wants none of it. [SPEAKER_00]: She insults him the whole night ever in a dinner. [SPEAKER_00]: Richard finds out that they had a dinner and he wants to see him wants to meet him.

[SPEAKER_00]: What is it with you and mom when he to remeed people and what would he just be people wants. [SPEAKER_00]: And he says this is not about having fun. [SPEAKER_00]: This is protocol. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, which is another word for property property procedure. [SPEAKER_01]: Lots of peace. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot's of a little reason here.

[SPEAKER_00]: But him wanting to franchise Luke Steiner and shave him is for the protocol. [SPEAKER_00]: And later when Emily says, like, how could you? [SPEAKER_00]: How could you have, how could you play golf with that man, take him to the club? [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, it happened to be a fruitful outing.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to a system in franchising his diner. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's not good enough for Lauraly. [SPEAKER_00]: And he actually calls for a snob for thinking so. [SPEAKER_00]: But she's like, this relationship is ridiculous. [SPEAKER_00]: He goes, it is. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but Lauraly's gonna do what she's gonna do.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so we might as well try to make this work and if this insane relationship as he calls it is actually going to proceed Let's have a little bit of control over it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're not thinking ahead. [SPEAKER_00]: You're not. [SPEAKER_00]: And I love that he says that her. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's lying. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's going to do what she's going to do. [SPEAKER_01]: You're not thinking ahead. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I like I just think that's such an interesting dynamic between them because That really is kind of what flips things. [SPEAKER_01]: It's that episode because we find out about Dean too [SPEAKER_01]: like I love their little backdoor conversations about like we need to talk.

[SPEAKER_01]: We need to talk. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're not thinking ahead. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I like the thing that is bringing them together is scheming against the girls. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh, nothing reunites people like hating on the enemy. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's their boyfriends.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's true. [SPEAKER_01]: But they're almost like not them. [SPEAKER_01]: Richard is given up on trying to pick [SPEAKER_00]: And I do think that these two episodes, being back to back with one another. [SPEAKER_00]: This is you jump high jump jack and the party's over. [SPEAKER_00]: Everybody knows you jump high jump jack, but the Milliel party is the party's over.

[SPEAKER_00]: I find it really interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: That they're positioned up against one another. [SPEAKER_00]: Because this, I think, both the, you're not thinking ahead and the success of breaking up Dean and Lori and having Logan kind of sweep in, swoop in, if you will.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that plants the seed for Emily that she's gonna go to Christopher. [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, that she's like, I am hot, I'm on a street. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm on a street, so we're going to double down. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, uh, she's in the final four. [SPEAKER_00]: She's all in. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: She's like all in. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, we did have an episode comparing Luke and... [SPEAKER_01]: Emily, Luke said he was all in. [SPEAKER_01]: Emily has always been all in. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: She's always been all in on Laura's life. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's, she's too in.

[SPEAKER_01]: Get out of the oven, wait to end. [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, in the party's over, it's really interesting, like I said, that we have kind of backed it back, meddling in the girl's lives in two very different ways. [SPEAKER_00]: But Richards tactics are different as I was mentioning for between the way that he approaches things with Laura Ly and her love interest and the way that he's going to approach work in her love interest.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that up until this point, [SPEAKER_00]: he's trusted that we're he's going to make her own decisions and she's going to choose wisely. [SPEAKER_00]: But the thought of Dean coming back around and as he says, he's like, I'm sure that he's he's a nice boy, but he's not suitable for Rory.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this way, when they do inevitably break up, because they're going to break up, she will have another option. [SPEAKER_00]: She'll have met other guys. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: She already met him, but I think he wasn't as much of a concern for Richard up until now that like they kind of just let it be because like they had Jess but like Richard and Jess never interacted with us like nothing that was nothing to him like it wasn't in the storyline in any way so like we never had that point of view of him being concerned about another relationship Emily on the other hand, which we can talk about Emily's thoughts on all of [SPEAKER_01]: Brody's men, which might be quite fun, but that never mattered to Richard.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so now that we're getting that he is concerned, it does feel more like an Emily thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it does feel like she's sure we need to talk because she was the one that found out she was back with Dean. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Find out why, which I still would have loved for Emily to find out why.

[SPEAKER_01]: She went on a European summer with worry. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it would have been very interesting during the [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: So then when Richard sees Rory at the male Yale party with all of the Yale males and she finds her with Logan. [SPEAKER_01]: It very much feels like that Tristan thing from her birthday party Yeah, you're in good hands.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, like he's he's like, oh gosh. [SPEAKER_01]: I got this I nailed it look what I did So I think that after that they're kind of like cool. [SPEAKER_01]: She's good. [SPEAKER_01]: She's fine. [SPEAKER_01]: She met a hunts burger. [SPEAKER_01]: She's fine. [SPEAKER_01]: Go no more meddling [SPEAKER_00]: And they don't, and they don't.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get Butonanus Kuz Pushkin. [SPEAKER_00]: And I love this moment between Rory and Richard. [SPEAKER_01]: Iconic. [SPEAKER_01]: So truly one of the best. [SPEAKER_00]: Very playful, very fun. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm speaking of meddling. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess he kind of metals a little bit.

[SPEAKER_00]: He just plays the game. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, he just makes it fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Like there's just like an element to that. [SPEAKER_01]: Of like Richard can never get to that place with. [SPEAKER_01]: Poor lie. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's that softness that came in the rating. [SPEAKER_01]: Poor lie.

[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think that Richard would play a prank like that. [SPEAKER_01]: I wonder who would idea it was? [SPEAKER_01]: I think it was Richard's idea. [SPEAKER_00]: Like a player. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go up to him. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's what we're going to do. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I'm gonna have them, you know, like hook line the sinker.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna sink him and totally It's just so funny to me to think that like the background of that which I I actually have never thought about into this moment of like worry being like Yeah, like I was with Logan Hansberger like we were friends and then he pulled this prank on me and it's like I don't know what to do and I just feel like Richard's college days were suddenly like he pranked you [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the fuck.

[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna break him back. [SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna break him right back. [SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna and he was so into this I feel like she's like I'm not sure and he's like no, I know I'm super sure. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry Like I know we're to find in my fault in one time, so I know we're all of his common hangouts are [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: And Richard goes to find him and he's all in. [SPEAKER_01]: He loved it. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think that he, like, suddenly felt like a college guy again, like, pranking, pranking in the leg eye. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's true. [SPEAKER_01]: I can only imagine, like, what that conversation was like, between right now.

[SPEAKER_01]: Which I know. [SPEAKER_01]: Which I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of unheard conversations, we wish we had seen. [SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be, I am not episode. [SPEAKER_01]: That would have been such a good one. [SPEAKER_01]: I just love her a little signal. [SPEAKER_00]: I imagine that was Richard that came up with the signal.

[SPEAKER_00]: For sure. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he probably had so much fun doing that. [SPEAKER_01]: He had so much fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And it makes me wonder about like what he thought of Rory and Logan, that like maybe he thought that he was like helping her out from the Emilio party to the pranking of it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: But I do like that. [SPEAKER_01]: I like thinking about I never thought about that. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a review. [SPEAKER_00]: I know it is very cute. [SPEAKER_00]: Then, of course, we get wedding muggles, which, like, bigger moment for Loreline Emily and their relationship, but I just love that Richard once worried to be his best her best his best man, his best man, his best man.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, where's the, where's the female, the less than that female, no. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're he runs for you to be his best man. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, very sweet, but also like telling, you know, there Emily had Laura like be her mate of honor. [SPEAKER_00]: They drew boundaries.

[SPEAKER_00]: They drew lines. [SPEAKER_00]: They drew lines. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I do love the moment that he has with Laura Lye, one of my favorite lines. [SPEAKER_00]: The vocal stim, if you will. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Focus, please. [SPEAKER_00]: I am a camera. [SPEAKER_00]: I am a camera.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he wants to give Emily the necklace that will go best with her dress. [SPEAKER_00]: I love the [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, you know, she can be a sneaky one and then she walks in and she's like which one which one do you want here He thinks this one and so on for my birthday. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I think they what running bulb leaves gives us in the Rift between Emily and Laura lives.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's a sub for some really good Laura lie and Richard [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, content. [SPEAKER_00]: Because in so good talk, which is the episode where at the end of it, Laura Lies doing the star's boring movie marathon in Luka and the knocks on the door. [SPEAKER_00]: Emily comes to start Halloween and says, like, go to her.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the one who did this. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, be with her. [SPEAKER_00]: I won't get in your way anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: And they kiss at the end. [SPEAKER_00]: And they get back together. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, episode leading up to that is when Richard and Emily arrived home from their trip.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Emily's trying to call Laura Lies, she won't talk to her. [SPEAKER_00]: And she will talk to Richard. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love the conversation that Richard ends up having with more lie after Friday night dinner because of course he calls her saying like hey your daughter was so rude to her grandmother but it's interesting because he doesn't speak that way to worry when they're sitting at the table.

[SPEAKER_00]: When worry and Emily are going back and forth, he's just calling for civility and when Emily's like, you need to go back out there and come back in and have a new attitude. [SPEAKER_00]: He says she doesn't need to do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Emily, and I feel like if war lie was the one behaving like that, yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Richard would be team Emily all the way. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: He's just trying to call for civility until he calls, [SPEAKER_00]: Like her responsible for the reactions. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, he says I've never seen where he behave like that.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can tell me what you intend to do about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Your her mother, it's up to you to set an example for your daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: It's your battle she's fighting. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, dad, I don't have any control over what my daughter does. [SPEAKER_00]: Did you?

[SPEAKER_00]: just say that, but let's the undertone. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I love that the tone of the conversation shifts when he's like so that's it. [SPEAKER_00]: So like you're you'll never visit our home again. [SPEAKER_00]: So we just are supposed to accept the fact that we'll never see you again.

[SPEAKER_00]: She goes, you can see me anytime you want to down. [SPEAKER_00]: I have no beef with you. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, Oh, cool. [SPEAKER_00]: Wow. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, as well. [SPEAKER_00]: I see. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, Oh, well, you're all quiet over there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Can we talk about some insurance? [SPEAKER_00]: He goes, you want to talk to me about insurance? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And he steps in and really, really quote unquote is a life saver as Laura like calls him when he comes to the end. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's making jokes about the [SPEAKER_01]: Garden knows and he says the skulls, the skulls, but he says to her, I have to say lower life.

[SPEAKER_00]: You've done a wonderful job here. [SPEAKER_00]: And she says, thank you, Dad. [SPEAKER_00]: And times about just all of the charm and like how he took something that was so rundown and turned it into this beautiful space and they said, and they have lunch together. [SPEAKER_00]: And it does take me back to what you said about Richard visiting Roy in Ted Coppel's big night on and beyond, that like he doesn't need an excuse to visit Roy, he can bond with [SPEAKER_00]: and obviously he did come to the end with a purpose, but he ends there, he doesn't have to sit with her and have coffee and his goings.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's forced to, on a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, so, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But, and he didn't come there for this purpose, but they get to that point. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be quite good. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a beautiful full circle from the pilot of calling in a motel, like working at the independence end to now being so proud of her that he wants to connect her with other people to help her maybe sell the inn, which she's a resistant to because she doesn't want to sell, but it's not.

[SPEAKER_00]: She just opened it. [SPEAKER_00]: She's put her heart and soul into this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but just the fact that he is recognizing that this is worth more than just the effort that she put into it, this is really something that she could be proud of, and that he wants to bring to other people, which is big for rich, because it's all about appearances.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's going to make sure we're off. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, make a business connection for her, because he's so proud of this place that she's built. [SPEAKER_01]: Which I love. [SPEAKER_01]: That's like a beautiful, I think that if we could end there, [SPEAKER_01]: with Loreline Richard, it would be perfect.

[SPEAKER_01]: They'd be so happy and don't have to be fine. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's not, but it's not. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting to me because we really are setting them up to have such a beautiful arc here. [SPEAKER_00]: And also they don't end up having that. [SPEAKER_00]: But like, you know, there are kind of ends here.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is the end of the rainbow. [SPEAKER_01]: Or things start to. [SPEAKER_00]: to Lily goes down. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because he talks to her about how proud she is. [SPEAKER_00]: And when Emily gets all upset, like, because you're the favorite and she's cutting the flowers and she's all pissed off, she says, you're loving this, aren't you?

[SPEAKER_00]: You're the favorite and you're loving every single minute of it. [SPEAKER_00]: You couldn't wait to run over to that end of hers. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's kind of true. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not not true. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not not true. [SPEAKER_00]: Like I did with the he says to her is like, basically, you're not thinking ahead.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like we cut her off and we have no communication with her. [SPEAKER_00]: I at least have some sort of like she will talk to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I have some sort of contact with her. [SPEAKER_00]: I have everything under control. [SPEAKER_00]: I do think at the end of the day, he is servicing the needs of Emily because that's his wife.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's his person. [SPEAKER_00]: And like they're also in this new found like we're back together phase. [SPEAKER_00]: He is her partner. [SPEAKER_00]: He is standing with her. [SPEAKER_00]: But that phone call was telling. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I think he. [SPEAKER_00]: Billie does love that like he lost me in the favor.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's on good terms with everybody He might be pissed at her, but they're they're really mind like he he does say face with Emily and like consoles her and comfort her about it And kind of explains it away, but he's like in the shower like um the fake You know [SPEAKER_01]: You know, um, what is an episode if I haven't made up a song?

[SPEAKER_01]: It's true. [SPEAKER_00]: What's an episode if you're by singing. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so I think that that's really important to Richard because it feels like for once. [SPEAKER_01]: He's, it has nothing to do with him. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think most of the time it has nothing to do with him.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's just always been quite interesting to me that he has almost no reaction to wedding bill blues. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, yeah, that's y'all's drama. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm the favorite. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm the favorite. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a really good. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but that really takes us into how many crowpugs to keep cod because this is an interesting, there's an interesting journey that happens here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because Richard calls Laura lie because he has heard he, he got a phone call today where he said something very remarkable happened today. [SPEAKER_00]: I got a phone call from someone calling to ask if I was Laura like a horse father. [SPEAKER_00]: And short of, you know, school days when she was getting, he was getting those phone calls because she was in trouble at school.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's really never happened to him. [SPEAKER_00]: And turns out it was the Durham group. [SPEAKER_00]: They own boutique ends. [SPEAKER_00]: And Mike Armstrong is super interested in Laura lie because she's an up and comer because the article is coming out. [SPEAKER_00]: And he says apparently you are an up and comeer and he wants to meet with you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I love this conversation between the two of them so much because Lauraly still not really interested in this. [SPEAKER_00]: He brought this up to her, you know, a couple of episodes prior and she's like, I'm still not really sure about this, but he wants to set up a meeting and she's like, okay, fine, sure.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, I'm quite proud of you, Lauraly. [SPEAKER_01]: She says thanks dad and it's so sweet it's so heartbreaking because this is this is it This is kind of the end of that and I like that we're setting it up like he has a lot of faith in her and that there's a lot of Like a lot of love and pride here, which I'm not saying it goes away But it's no longer present once he feels like she is overreacting to what happened in the previous episode [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which was, but I'm a Gilmore and the Huntsburger family dinner as Logan calls it the font Huntsburger family Shanghai where they just completely obliterate or you Gilmore and they don't want to believe it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Lorelyce quite surprised that they would want to entertain Logan Huntsburger given what his family did and they don't want to have it. [SPEAKER_00]: They're hearing none of it. [SPEAKER_01]: They're like that wouldn't have happened. [SPEAKER_01]: No, like this isn't true.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're making things up. [SPEAKER_00]: And then he uses, but he uses the meeting with my garm strong and like in sit to voice internship at the Huntsburgers. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, he's like, oh, so you're saying the only gave her this internship as hush money. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no money.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, this is an opportunity. [SPEAKER_00]: She took it. [SPEAKER_00]: This is basically the same thing as me setting you over that meeting with my garm strong. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, he's [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but no, it's not, they treated her like dirt and they just ignore her.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, you know what you need to clear your head Get another side card like yeah, it's bad and it bums me out because we started on such a good I know I know with them which it's just perfect writing to start on a high note We need to drop somewhere. [SPEAKER_01]: We got to drop it down.

[SPEAKER_01]: We can't start on a low note and end on an even lower note We got to we got to really disappoint everyone here [SPEAKER_00]: And it goes back up a little bit in a house is not at home when she does come to her parents in a time of crisis. [SPEAKER_00]: And of course, this is the finale of season five when Roy is dropping out of yellow and more like goes to her parents.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they at first, they listen to her. [SPEAKER_00]: They still are like, what are you talking about? [SPEAKER_00]: This is not possible. [SPEAKER_00]: This isn't happening. [SPEAKER_00]: You must be lying. [SPEAKER_00]: You must, you know, this must be one of your bits. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, it's not one of my bits.

[SPEAKER_00]: Roy literally got arrested. [SPEAKER_00]: And that I think is when they lock in because she's not making that up. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't just come over and say, like, where you got arrested, that's what turned her attention to, like, oh my god, she's in trouble. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when Richard is the one who's like, tell me what's happening. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what you called, she didn't have him bought tomorrow. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is not really new then. [SPEAKER_01]: They use Charlie Newman in season five, but by season six, it's Charlie down in Port.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Charlie Newman was busy. [SPEAKER_01]: That's fair. [SPEAKER_01]: But that feels so hopeful. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, he asks, like, what do you want us to do? [SPEAKER_00]: He's trusting Laura lie to take the alien and she's like, I think we can triple team her for any night dinner.

[SPEAKER_00]: Emily suggests maybe doing it now. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, no, but let's give worries out to some time to cool off. [SPEAKER_00]: And Richard says, I agree with Laura lie. [SPEAKER_00]: Give the girl some time. [SPEAKER_00]: And this means so much to her they're like do you want anything else like do you want coffee or food or anything and she goes I just got everything I need it and it's so nice heart-breaking because like this is all she's ever wanted is for her parents to back her up on something Yeah, to come to them not for financial help, but for like emotional support Support be in my corner.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and they were but for one brief shining moment [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, it's interesting, though. [SPEAKER_01]: The way that you said that, can you remind me of exactly what Richard said to Laura lie in defense of her, give the girl some time? [SPEAKER_01]: Is that what it is?

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree with Laura lie, give the girl some time, which is interesting because then Lori comes over. [SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: I like that Richard answers the door. [SPEAKER_01]: We have talked about up-down inside ways, whether or not if Emily had answered the door, how the sort of gone.

[SPEAKER_01]: Richard is the one that comforts her, and I love that between them. [SPEAKER_01]: It feels very soft, feels very like raining, lower-light that they can be a little bit vulnerable with each other. [SPEAKER_01]: I like that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But this feels kind of tied into what Richard said there, like, get the girl some time, because Rory comes to him, wants to drop out of Yale, and he decides to let her have some time.

[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: So he didn't go against his word. [SPEAKER_01]: It just he used it differently. [SPEAKER_01]: And it really is I think Richard that we've decided because Emily says as much in season six episode seven 21 is a lonely number that like he was Richard's idea to go against Laura Lies plan.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think that this is like the real breaking point for Richard and Laura Lies in my opinion of like the duo over [SPEAKER_01]: I'm the one who knows better. [SPEAKER_01]: She is coming to me. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to make the decision here. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm overwriting everything that Laura lives as.

[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where it really feels. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is the Laura I do over. [SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm taking control of the situation. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm ousting Laura Lie. [SPEAKER_01]: And we're completely going against everything. [SPEAKER_00]: And the thing is, is that like, he knows full well, and I'm sure he and Emily talked about this, but that add that to the list of conversations that I that we didn't get to see now I wish we had seen different conversations I know very different, but but I wonder if Emily said something to him similarly to what she said to him at the end of season four, it's like it took us a long time to get lower like back in our our house and if, you know, if she leaves worry might leave is actually not true in the situation.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if Emily was like, we run the risk of losing Lorelie and he was like, no, we don't because she's not going to abandon Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they have Rory, they have Lorelie. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is like, sounds like a hostage. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a hostage situation.

[SPEAKER_00]: Have Rory in the basement. [SPEAKER_01]: They just lower it lower a light. [SPEAKER_01]: It's shackled. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we will have more we can breadcrumbs like a hands-on Ruttles. [SPEAKER_01]: We just need a little espresso cups and she will sip them to the door We know they will come [SPEAKER_00]: But it's true.

[SPEAKER_00]: I really, really wonder if they considered that. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure that they did. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm shocked that Emily was willing to go in that direction. [SPEAKER_00]: But I think Richard truly. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is just me hypothesizing. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's speculating.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do think Richard was like, there is no way we're going to lose Laura lie. [SPEAKER_00]: There's just no way. [SPEAKER_01]: I could see that too. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that. [SPEAKER_01]: I think Emily has always worried about that as you mentioned in season four that if we go against Laura lie, this could mean we lose her, but [SPEAKER_01]: I also think that that's, I think that he really thought Lorelei was going to stick around but I think that he cares what's about that.

[SPEAKER_01]: If he has Rory, he feels locked in because, again, Lorelei's out in the abyss but it doesn't matter as much to him. [SPEAKER_01]: With Emily, she, that's why we really need to have a team Rory team Lorelei conversation at some point because it's really Emily that is so connected to Lorelei that needs her to be.

[SPEAKER_01]: like, doesn't want to go 16 years again and have another reason for her to keep them. [SPEAKER_01]: And it just kind of seems like Richard doesn't mind giving her reasons. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that his, like, and he speaks to this, it's like, more or less going to do what Laura is going to do.

[SPEAKER_01]: 100%. [SPEAKER_00]: We can't control that. [SPEAKER_00]: We can't control lower life. [SPEAKER_01]: We have Rory and we can control Rory right now. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we can do that for future. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I, but I do think there was a part of him that truly, and, and he speaks to this when he says to lower life, here's the new plan.

[SPEAKER_00]: Rory will be taking some time off from the aisle. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like got punched. [SPEAKER_00]: This is what we want to do and we need to respect that. [SPEAKER_00]: She told me what she wanted in her own words and you'll understand once you come down. [SPEAKER_00]: And she doesn't understand when she comes down because then she really comes down.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, and I wouldn't either, if I were her. [SPEAKER_00]: But in the new and improved lore lie, which is season 6 episode 1, we see Richard call her, call Loreline. [SPEAKER_00]: Be like, hey, just want to let you know, Charlie Davenport got her the court day June 3rd, so we'll see you there, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And like acting like everything is cheerful and sunshine of rembos. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, no, it seems like you've got this under control. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, bye, bye, and it's really interesting the way that which are delivers that news to Rory because of course, Rory is like, where is she?

[SPEAKER_01]: Where's mom? [SPEAKER_00]: Where's mom? [SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, she knew all about it, Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: She simply showed no interest in the matter. [SPEAKER_01]: Sewing discord between them. [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't say it like that. [SPEAKER_00]: He didn't have to say it like that.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like as the episode progresses, like the new and improved lower lie, that really just feels like it lends so well to this episode in general, like that. [SPEAKER_00]: I do a bit. [SPEAKER_01]: But it really is more so directed between Emily and lower lie, because she wants to come get Royce clothes and by the end of the episode, she brings all of her stuff.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that lower lies always more inclined to be mad at her mom. [SPEAKER_01]: in instances like this. [SPEAKER_01]: She always will kind of like push that off onto her. [SPEAKER_01]: But when she shows up in their bedroom and Richard's wearing a chain to bed, which like never ever ever get over the bedtime jewelry.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love the bedtime jewelry. [SPEAKER_01]: Is that what it is? [SPEAKER_01]: Like get what an icon, what an icon. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it really, I know that it is directed at the both of them. [SPEAKER_01]: But it always seems like she's more mad at her mom, of course. [SPEAKER_00]: Then anything else.

[SPEAKER_00]: But she says to the both of them, like, you guys must be pretty jazz-o, huh? [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you finally did it. [SPEAKER_00]: You finally got a shot at getting the daughter you've always wanted. [SPEAKER_00]: And Richard says, I'm too tired of this conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, congrats.

[SPEAKER_01]: I love the way you say. [SPEAKER_00]: Boy, here, right under your roof, excellent. [SPEAKER_00]: You're being ridiculous. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, you get your duiver, new and improved, orally. [SPEAKER_00]: Congrats. [SPEAKER_00]: Very well, play. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that's like one of my favorite things she says.

[SPEAKER_00]: Congrats. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, very well, play. [SPEAKER_00]: And which is as low as I know you think some sort of con has been perpetrated on you. [SPEAKER_00]: It has. [SPEAKER_00]: And it has. [SPEAKER_00]: The fact of the matter is your mother and I were just trying to do the right thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what they always hide behind. [SPEAKER_00]: And I do think there's truth to that. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you think? [SPEAKER_00]: the proper procedure, the proper procedure. [SPEAKER_00]: We're all striving for the same goal. [SPEAKER_00]: We won't worry happy and healthy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, she's taken a bit of a stumble, but we can get her back on the right track. [SPEAKER_00]: All of us together, and we're going to need your input and your involvement, which you've that you had it. [SPEAKER_00]: You had it. [SPEAKER_00]: Plans gone, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: Plans, we haven't said it yet, but that's exactly, yeah, plans gone, baby.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I just like [SPEAKER_01]: It's so richer to think you can come in and control the situation now. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like we're doing the same thing. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like now we're going to play a different role and it's like no plans gone baby. [SPEAKER_01]: You're the scorpion.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the frog. [SPEAKER_01]: Or turtle or whatever it was. [SPEAKER_01]: Whatever they end deciding it is. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that's quite hard because I think that Richard just, he doesn't have a real care concern for how this is affecting Lora-ly. [SPEAKER_01]: It's Rory-Rory-Rory.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't necessarily feel like Lora-ly needs like a strong emotional support through this as really should be focused on Rory, but Richard made it about her. [SPEAKER_01]: Lora-ly and Emily were, I think, focusing on Rory and what they could do for her and Richard was the one who made the problem.

[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of want to talk now about how Richard once raised in his orbit in the pullhouse, kind of rewrites history a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: I love the brother that up last week, and that happens and we've got magic to do, which is a huge episode for Richard, his outlook on the situation, his outlook on.

[SPEAKER_00]: Moralie that's kind of when everything ships. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because this whole time I think that he starts really supportive of Rory And like very quickly realizes this is going downhill. [SPEAKER_01]: This is not what he planned because it starts with like the court case Not getting kind of dismissed the charges getting dismissed.

[SPEAKER_01]: She's a beauty service [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's just hanging out, she needs a job, and all of these links, it's I think that it slowly takes until we've got magic to do, to really punch him in the face and be like, I made a mistake, I made a mistake. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but he does make mention to Emily when she realizes that we're going to take over this DAR event planning and this of course is the, what is it?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like, it's like a canteen style USL, thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say UFO. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, different, still more in Spain. [SPEAKER_01]: Richard comes in as an astronaut and he comes as an alien. [SPEAKER_01]: So funny. [SPEAKER_00]: But when Emily is like, you know, she's not going to serve the salmon puffs.

[SPEAKER_00]: We've never not served salmon puffs like in 25 years. [SPEAKER_00]: We've never done it without salmon puffs. [SPEAKER_00]: Salmon puffs talk about vocational. [SPEAKER_00]: And Richard says, Emily, please, it's for you, what she tackles, she conquerors. [SPEAKER_00]: This girl could name the state capitals at three, recite the periodic table at four.

[SPEAKER_00]: Discuss, showpin' hours, influence on Nietzsche when she was ten. [SPEAKER_00]: She's read every book by every author with a Russian surname and had a four point two great point average of one of the toughest schools on the East Coast. [SPEAKER_00]: If she's excluding Sam and Pops, she's a good reason to exclude Sam and Pops.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I, for one, have complete confidence in her ability to tackle this job and so should you. [SPEAKER_00]: and the confidence is beautiful, but we're like they learn all that information about her. [SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like he speaks of it as if he was there for it. [SPEAKER_00]: And for me it's like it's a little contradictory to what we got in season one, where it's like he doesn't really know much about her.

[SPEAKER_01]: I know that is what I find so interesting and we have to allow at some points. [SPEAKER_01]: the Bible that is Gilmore girls and the writing team to be like they needed to adjust it as the story developed because literally at that point they were like this what is the show and where's it going and how does it matter that we can rewrite it a little bit I guess that like when they saw each other he was really [SPEAKER_01]: Realizing how smart she was, but it doesn't make him me now make senses to why he would be like wouldn't be interested in talking to her.

[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like he would want to get her not get her alone, but like get her on her own. [SPEAKER_01]: So that she wouldn't have like the influence of Laura like he could really talk to her about the common interest that they have. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's also quite possible. [SPEAKER_01]: this is probably more probable is that Rory filled him in on her history that he didn't have much interest in her then, but as they've gotten closer and had these lunches and had these discussions and all the Friday night dinners that we never saw because there's a Friday night every week as it turns out, they were there and so they learned a lot about her so that's kind of my version of it that I like to put that their relationship got so close that he learned so much about

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe felt a little sad that he missed out on all of that because she was such a remarkable young woman or a young child. [SPEAKER_01]: She was not a woman at that point. [SPEAKER_01]: She was a child. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that maybe that version of it is the one that I want to go with because they did they did in fact rewrite that.

[SPEAKER_00]: They did. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which would be interesting to talk to John Stevens about. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have them on over the summer. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's the list. [SPEAKER_01]: I've just said the question list.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a two-the-question list. [SPEAKER_00]: But we get some Richard and Laura Lyon interaction here. [SPEAKER_00]: That's because something happened. [SPEAKER_00]: There was a fire at Laura Lyon's end. [SPEAKER_00]: And so she needs to call the insurance company. [SPEAKER_00]: They've never heard of her.

[SPEAKER_00]: So she has to go to Richard. [SPEAKER_00]: I love her. [SPEAKER_00]: She was like, [SPEAKER_00]: by it leaves Richard and Lorlai, very contrasting energies, fire, he was there last time. [SPEAKER_00]: There is no warmth. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's fire, but there's no warmth. [SPEAKER_00]: And it leaves the two of them alone when Suki leaves and Lorlai says, so how's your pick plan working out?

[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you're a big plan for worry. [SPEAKER_00]: How's that going, Dad? [SPEAKER_00]: and he's trying to avoid it. [SPEAKER_00]: And she says something about the Huntsburgers. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, the family of Logan's recently, the hamburger's Huntsburgers, right, right, how were the old Huntsburgers?

[SPEAKER_00]: They behaving any better than the night they humiliated your granddaughter. [SPEAKER_00]: They did not humiliate her. [SPEAKER_00]: Brey said they did and Richard says I know the Huntsburgers. [SPEAKER_00]: They're fine people What happened that I was a misunderstanding because they have nothing I guess story?

[SPEAKER_00]: Why would they? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then Or they says well that granddaughter if yours what a liar and I love that she kind of throws a packet him She's like why would I make this up then that's kind of what? [SPEAKER_00]: Where they leave the conversation? [SPEAKER_01]: I have a question.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I felt like the need to wait So I was like can you call me did he ever ask for me? [SPEAKER_00]: He did. [SPEAKER_01]: Why can't we go to the source? [SPEAKER_01]: Like he didn't humiliate Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but did you ask Rory? [SPEAKER_01]: Did we ask Rory?

[SPEAKER_01]: Did we check in? [SPEAKER_01]: Did we check the source? [SPEAKER_01]: Did we fact check? [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't seem like we did. [SPEAKER_01]: Because that's always what like irritates me so much about this episode. [SPEAKER_01]: Because of course the reason that Richard is thinking about this when he goes to this event and runs into Mitch and Hansberger in the bathroom.

[SPEAKER_01]: because it has four lip products. [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of percolating in his mind of like, oh, that Laura Lye always lie in about things. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think there's some doubt that he's like, well, if she's still pushing this so hard, why is she writing this lie so hard? [SPEAKER_01]: And so he's like, mid-chom.

[SPEAKER_01]: Let's clear some things up. [SPEAKER_01]: And he finds out that like Mitchum very directly confirms that this was true. [SPEAKER_01]: And he so quickly bap trucks that Richard Gilmore, but it immediately takes me back to Christopher returns that we talked about in the last episode from season one when strobe insults Boralai.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because all of this stuff that Boralai said was true is rushing back at him as Mitchum is [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, whoa, you flipped on a dime, like, wow, like, how did you do a 180 so quickly that you added like 360 spins in there as well that, like, you totally look so fast at the word of a man who was the insulter.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's true. [SPEAKER_01]: like from the horse's mouth and it's so hard because it's like the way that you defend your family is so beautiful and so honorable but for the wrong I wish that you believed your family. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, don't just defend them. [SPEAKER_00]: When it's happening in front of your face and that's the parallel here between Christopher returns and we've got magic to do is when they're in the bathroom I mean he doesn't put his hands on him but sure he wanted to hand wash them.

[SPEAKER_01]: He might not [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: You're so right. [SPEAKER_00]: You're so like, but when he says you crushed that girl, it's like it's giving like your count. [SPEAKER_00]: That's dope. [SPEAKER_00]: You can't that's dope. [SPEAKER_01]: Like you want to take them by the lapels and shake them.

[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, what is it? [SPEAKER_01]: We called it in the last episode the strobe wiggle. [SPEAKER_01]: The strobe jiggle. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: We need a little Mitchem shake. [SPEAKER_00]: The Mitchem shake. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: The Mitchem shake and the strobe jiggle.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they go on. [SPEAKER_01]: Dances of the summer. [SPEAKER_00]: You can do them back to back if you want. [SPEAKER_00]: It's better if you do, but this is when Richard storms out and tells Emily, like everything she told us true, who lorley about what Mitchem did to worry, how he said things to her crush her about Logan's whole family, and Emily still is like, that cannot be, that's not true.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says, Mitchem just confirmed everything he told that girl, she wasn't good enough. [SPEAKER_00]: I got a punch him. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he should have missed your chance. [SPEAKER_00]: They don't want her marrying into their precious family. [SPEAKER_00]: They don't think she's good enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: and you know she does. [SPEAKER_00]: I know she does. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course she does. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't stay in this room with these people, and so he has to leave. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is when Cher, when Emily takes it upon herself to go give sure of the business. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, iconic.

[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just really difficult for me to reconcile that with Richard, that like you're going to defend your family, but you're not going to believe them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he rarely believes in war-life, but the question that I have there, it's not actually really surprised that Emily didn't believe her more.

[SPEAKER_01]: That, of course, they dismiss it because Emily was had the upper hand in how many crowpox to Cape Cod because she had been on the outs with Emily and the only way for her to come to this dinner was to come to all of them and they were like pushing her aside on night, saying her drink was a sidecar putting an onion and [SPEAKER_01]: backstory with them.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm actually surprised that when it came down to it and when in 21 is the onlyest number and it comes out that it was Richard's idea and the Emily wanted to keep to a liberalized plan that it wasn't also that like Emily was like I wondered if what she said was true. [SPEAKER_00]: But they both seem to be very against that being the case.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think they seemed to be a united front that it was some sort of misunderstanding. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't that nothing happened or that Loreline made something up. [SPEAKER_00]: It was that Loreline must have misunderstood because she doesn't understand this world.

[SPEAKER_01]: The thing that I keep coming back to with that that I'm so confused by is why no one asked for ory. [SPEAKER_01]: It seems like Emily would have asked her. [SPEAKER_01]: I know, they were so interested in like what she was doing with Logan, that of course Richard was just trying to figure out what was going on with worry, but I'm just so surprised that no one was like, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, recap the moment.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was a little recap. [SPEAKER_01]: What was that dinner like? [SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know how honest she would be with them about it. [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: And that always makes me so sad. [SPEAKER_01]: But that really is a turning point for Richard.

[SPEAKER_01]: He realizes that he was in the wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: And welcome to the dollhouse, seems so tidal because of the dollhouse that Richard brings to Lorelei at the end, because Emily's trying to get rid of it. [SPEAKER_01]: And this is his all of Branch. [SPEAKER_01]: He wants to talk to her.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's a really beautiful ending to that episode that picks up immediately in the cold open of the next one, which I love that there wasn't any sort of break that it wasn't like we were retold about this conversation later that we see this happen between them. [SPEAKER_01]: That Richard is like, okay, we need to get worry back to Yale.

[SPEAKER_01]: Let's come with a plan. [SPEAKER_01]: What? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what did you, did you miss the finale of Season 5, my man? [SPEAKER_01]: There was a plan. [SPEAKER_00]: At the end of Welcome to the Dollhouse, it really takes us into 21. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the littleliest number, which is a huge huge 20 point again.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because Richard not only has like come to the realization, he's now made his feelings known to everyone around him. [SPEAKER_01]: too. [SPEAKER_00]: You guys have any plans like what's going on? [SPEAKER_00]: He's more curious about Rory. [SPEAKER_00]: Logan takes that as like a, are you going to marry my granddaughter?

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: With Emily, he's being vocal, but I think Emily still, it's not that she's in denial. [SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't want to overlink wish Rory at all. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And that really shows itself here in Rory's 21st birthday party episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But at the beginning, we're brought back to the end of Welcome to the [SPEAKER_00]: more a lie and saying like he's really pleading with her and it's just like okay like I'm ready let's let's let's let's get let's get moving here like let's get a plan happening I had a plan you didn't want to go with the plan plans over baby plans gone baby plans gone baby plans gone baby I don't know why I I quote that so much and so much but like plans gone baby because there was a plan Richard

[SPEAKER_01]: And this is another moment where he's rewriting history because he's talking about how smart she is. [SPEAKER_01]: And then he goes on to say, I couldn't even time I chew it 21 and you're like, no, no, no, I'm concerned. [SPEAKER_01]: It's actually, you've changed the subject here and now I would like to talk about that.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's talking about how smart she is and it's like, yes, this is what I was trying to impress upon you. [SPEAKER_01]: several episodes ago when I brought this to you and you changed the plan because you cited with Rory and now you don't like this because you can't control Rory in the right way and you don't like especially seeing her on stage at the D.A.R.

[SPEAKER_01]: at the end of we've got magic to do one hundred because I hated that [SPEAKER_01]: He hated that she was, as we learned in 21, is the Lonelyest Number that she has a life that's starting to look like Emily's and he doesn't want that for her. [SPEAKER_01]: He sees so much more for her, which is unfair to Emily, but I do understand what he means, that she's so smart that she can't give up on herself like that because of the feedback of one man.

[SPEAKER_01]: But you missed, you missed about my friend. [SPEAKER_00]: plans gone baby. [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for the doll house, but plan is gone baby, and Rory will come back when she's ready. [SPEAKER_01]: It's taken Laurel I quite some time, seven episodes if you will, to get to this point, but Rory will come back when Rory's ready and she cannot be rived and you know that.

[SPEAKER_01]: You can't rip her with a house or car or all these other things that he's mentioning, it has to be Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think he knows that I think that Richard, who has gotten to know Rory over these past five plus seasons, he really does know that about her that she can't be bought.

[SPEAKER_01]: But he's just trying, he's grasped all his roster. [SPEAKER_00]: Stan buys to go for a live. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it comes to Logan. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That he's really trying anything. [SPEAKER_01]: When really all he needed to do was keep the plan the first time. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: What a beautiful what if, though, what if they had kept the plan? [SPEAKER_00]: The thing is that I was kind of just about to answer that. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know that that would have changed anything. [SPEAKER_01]: I think so not to be just what if. [SPEAKER_00]: An ugly body.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think there is. [SPEAKER_00]: I think there's room to expand there. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe our besties will have opinions on this. [SPEAKER_00]: But I think if they had gone with the original plan, if Richard and Emily had really stuck to [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it goes back to what you said about like give the girl a doctor pepper and a nap and a break and she's going to go on to sleep.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: You just need to do a little vacation by the lake at the beach. [SPEAKER_01]: Just a little break away, you know, a doctor pepper and a nap really works wonders when you're in a bad mood. [SPEAKER_01]: It does. [SPEAKER_01]: It can solve a lot of your thoughts.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because you really start to think about the timeline of it. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to get into this. [SPEAKER_01]: She really was tired and very hungry. [SPEAKER_00]: She was tired, hungry, she was burnt out, but I also think that in a way, Amy and Dan kind of spelled out for us like, here's what happened when we gave her a break.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, she just needs to take some time off and she wasn't on track to go back. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think in part because she became a little aimless, she I think by the ungraduates, she knew what she wanted, she just didn't have it in her to get back without like a big significant, just Mariano shaped push, you know what I mean?

[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that she would have gotten there with the right sort of support at the time, but I think that everyone had kind of [SPEAKER_01]: that direction, and it's almost kind of embarrassing to be like, I want to do this thing, and then to do it, and then realize like, oh, I actually didn't want to do this, but I made significant changes in my life and hurt people to get here.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know how to come back. [SPEAKER_00]: Totally. [SPEAKER_01]: When it comes to Rory and Richard specifically, and the like what if they had stuck to the original plan, I just am imagining Rory coming to Friday night dinner, sitting down at the table, sitting down in the couch, wherever, and looking Richard Gilmore in the eye, not crying, not sort of losing her mind in a breakdown, like she did when she came to him, but looking at him and being like, I'm going to drop out of Yale because Mitch and Huntsberger told me that I didn't have it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think that his reaction would have been like, oh, that's hard. [SPEAKER_01]: That's hard when Mitch and Hansberger says that to us. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that he would have like spoken into her, spoken over her in such a way that it's like, what the fuck does he know about you?

[SPEAKER_01]: You and like listing off these things about her like at three years old you could do this a ten years old You were doing this you're the smartest girl. [SPEAKER_01]: I know what the fuck does he know and I think that that might have helped her But like I think I needed Roy Gilmour to look at her grandfather in a very Calm way in this way of like I hear you want to drop out of you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, say more [SPEAKER_00]: Now, I do agree with you on that. [SPEAKER_00]: If Rory had been honest, I think that the disconnect over these eight episodes that she's just like detached, distracted with the Gilmourers, then away from the Gilmourers, having this rift with her mom, I think that the bottom line is that there was no communication about what actually happened with Mitchem Huntsburger.

[SPEAKER_00]: that is the puzzle piece that's missing, and all Richard and Evelyn had to do was believe their daughter and ask their granddaughter and no one did that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or if you even if you felt skip to co-about Loura, I [SPEAKER_01]: check in on the source like that sounded quite strange for her to make that up.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good thing for her to make up about Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: This did not happen to Lorely. [SPEAKER_01]: This was her second hand that we are now hearing third hand. [SPEAKER_01]: Or is that second hand? [SPEAKER_01]: I guess we're hearing it second. [SPEAKER_01]: Regardless, it was they could have talked to Rory about it.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that overall, when it comes to season six and Richard and Roy and Richard and Laura lie, I think he just felt really comfortable having the control over the situation. [SPEAKER_01]: Roy is under his roof. [SPEAKER_01]: He built her, what does it? [SPEAKER_01]: $30,000 sex house.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he says not to hold Laura lie. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, oh my god, it really gets me. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting because the shift in 21 is slowly as number when Laura like eventually gets to the party, Richard and Emily's house for the party. [SPEAKER_00]: What she says to Richard when like she she goes in and the whole time she's like, where is where's dad?

[SPEAKER_00]: Where is he? [SPEAKER_00]: And Emily's like, I have no idea he's probably soaking in his office, whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: She says that to one of the caterers in front of Laura like Laura like goes into his study and he's like, Oh, wait Laura lie and she's like, no, like, what are you doing in here and he's like, It's wrong.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's all wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: This whole thing with worry. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think she feels a little bit of compassion for him there. [SPEAKER_00]: She does. [SPEAKER_00]: She understands what this feeling is like. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not that she's overcome it. [SPEAKER_00]: She's still in it, but like she does have the faith in the trust that worry will eventually.

[SPEAKER_00]: go back to Yale. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and yeah, to both of those. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's maybe the first time that she's kind of commiserating with someone because Luke can't really get there with her. [SPEAKER_01]: Luke is like, oh, it'll be fine, whatever, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think in this moment, she's kind of like, oh, we can both more in the fact that this happened.

[SPEAKER_00]: And also that we both failed to fix it. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that there's something that Laura lives really resistant to and Richard comes to her house with [SPEAKER_01]: her house. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't want to talk to him because he wants to start a plan. [SPEAKER_01]: He wants to come up with a plan and she's like, well, I already had one.

[SPEAKER_01]: So okay, we're not going to do that. [SPEAKER_01]: But when she comes to him, he is like sulking in the fact that he couldn't fix it. [SPEAKER_01]: He couldn't get her back there. [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: the plan that he had didn't work and when Laura like comes in it's like they're both like neither of us could fix this because we could have if we would have all been on a team together if we all if all of us would have been team or maybe in a way that's like helpful for her but I think that that's maybe it it's when Emily comes in things get a little bit more heated yeah of course and not the other situation yeah [SPEAKER_01]: because it's quite interesting that Emily reveals to us that she wanted to keep the plan, but when their plan is a foot, it's Emily, the one who's like digging in further and further and trying to keep more and more control.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they bring their pastor, priest, father, to, oh, oh, what's his name? [SPEAKER_01]: But they bring him, she pushes her out at the pool house. [SPEAKER_01]: Or like, she instills all of these new rules in the house, rather than recognizing this isn't where she's meant to be, Richard completely backdrax and is like, whoa, where his Emily is like more, more, more.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and in ballet, because that's really where we see her. [SPEAKER_01]: She's in the house, she's picking out her outfits. [SPEAKER_01]: She is scolding her for not being late, just wait till your father gets home. [SPEAKER_01]: my father, even my grandfather, this isn't about Emily, we did say that she was not going to get near us in this.

[SPEAKER_01]: Don't get next to me. [SPEAKER_01]: So all that aside, it really is just about the fact that Richard backs up away from his plan. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's totally. [SPEAKER_00]: Whoops. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think Richard's in. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me hear your ballet. [SPEAKER_00]: That's right now.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so. [SPEAKER_00]: Just so interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: I never quite realized that. [SPEAKER_00]: It just seems like he backs away completely and he's just kind of like whatever treats yes and maybe he hears Laura like to some extent that Roy will get herself back when we're out that he's taking his hand off the wheel for a second but Emily has no idea how to take her hand off the wheel and I think that he does return that's right he comes back in the prodigal daughter returns he comes back home to find that Colin [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and also some of this stuff.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he calls Laura Lyon is like, did you know that she's leaving? [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, oh, yeah, I heard because she heard from Lyon that Marie is out of her place. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And now Emily is missing. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that's where the the focus shifts.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I do remember and I can't remember what episode it's in. [SPEAKER_00]: But Richard basically says like, or maybe it's Emily that's like she left and she didn't even take a fly. [SPEAKER_00]: Is it in that? [SPEAKER_00]: That's him with the plan. [SPEAKER_01]: yeah well gorgeous not really did here but yeah and i think that that like mattered left less to Richard he really became super hands-off about all of it until the check bounces and yep they learn that Chris is paying for things and Emily gets off the phone completely when Laura like calls oh she sounds like that phone yeah on he says your mother had to go [SPEAKER_01]: And he just wishes that he would have found this out before he called everyone in the burser's office, some bad name I forgot what it was.

[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of like the extent in my opinion of the discord between all that the disappointments, the push, the pull, all of that it that exists between Richard and Marie and Richard and Lauraly because I think that they get a massive reset in Friday night's all right for fighting. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's like [SPEAKER_01]: I think all roads, all problems, all issues between the Gilmors, lead to Friday nights, I'll write for a fighting.

[SPEAKER_01]: No, 100%, where they've always been fighting about all these things out in the open, but putting them all out in the open at the same time at a volume of your voice where you can just kind of yell at everyone, get it all out. [SPEAKER_01]: It just kind of like bonded them in some strange way.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting because I actually feel like the phone call were Laura like calls her parents to tell them about the check and Christopher paying for Yale. [SPEAKER_00]: I actually think that like softens, Richard and Laura's relationship just a little bit because she had the respect for them to tell them when we were a divin.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's where Ice Ice Baby comes from, is because she's like, what? [SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm we wouldn't be speaking, like, that'd be terrible. [SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, Ice Ice Baby, she's a mori for, like, not wanting to talk to her grandparents over this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: And, like, kind of, lower life feeling the responsibility to convey this to them. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that maybe that is the first instance of like kind of like softening, but I do think that it makes a lot of sense that it's lower line richer that have that because it really just shows that like they will go through every single terrible thing and at the end of the day just kind of brush it under the rug.

[SPEAKER_01]: And that's her doubt again. [SPEAKER_01]: That's, there's a new disappointment to be had today. [SPEAKER_01]: The old disappointment will come up with the new disappointment of curves, but for right now we're fine. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're fine after Jason, we're fine after Rory, and that's just kind of them.

[SPEAKER_01]: They just exist between disappointments, but in the meantime. [SPEAKER_01]: They're fine. [SPEAKER_01]: He's the favorite, you know, that Emily and her can go back and forth all day long, but at the end of the day, when it's between the two of them, it gets bumped into the rug. [SPEAKER_01]: The rug at this point completely amount in.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely. [SPEAKER_01]: But then we get to Friday nights I'm ready for fighting and they fight it out. [SPEAKER_00]: They do, in fact, fight it out. [SPEAKER_00]: But you know what's interesting is that worry and lower lie don't really fight with Richard unless the police there.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It really is about the three of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Richard and Emily fighting about the plane. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I thought too. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was really interesting that like it's more so actually in the next episode.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess his Friday night's all right for fighting his 13 number 14 was you've been get more that a beginning of that episode when they're like kind of like having to get back to normal. [SPEAKER_01]: And Richard starts to raise his voice at Emily and he said, well, I can't raise my voice at people who deserve it.

[SPEAKER_01]: And it sounds like it's pointed at Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: the little countdown that they do to try and like I said everyone that that really reset all of the good more girls and there wasn't much Richard and Emily I'm there was like a little bit but there wasn't much Richard worry Richard.

[SPEAKER_01]: Laura lie in that hole. [SPEAKER_01]: The only thing was is like Luke has a daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: How's Luke? [SPEAKER_00]: He has a daughter. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not looking on his face, but that's pretty much it because then eventually in that next episode They bring Luke back over. [SPEAKER_01]: He's a part of their family.

[SPEAKER_01]: They're moving forward. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not really trying to shave him at this point Yeah, they're just that's well-wise man. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which is interesting because it's really the beginning of the end of him being a galorized man [SPEAKER_01]: Well, the beginning of the end was prior, but there's many more beginnings of many end.

[SPEAKER_00]: But it's really, it's really starting to go downhill and they don't know that yet. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't. [SPEAKER_01]: We should do. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that the only time that I really want to call to in season seven because [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't feel like true references, parallels, because I really, really want to believe that Richard and Emily coming, as we talked about in Gilmore's out of water, at the end in Bon Voyage, and Richard specifically being the one who has a lot of pride in her, because it takes someone remarkable to do something, or to inspire all of this, I think he says.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, oh, [SPEAKER_01]: I want to believe that Richard could get to that level, especially given the excuse that the writers give via Emily, which is like, don't become one of those people. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a heart attack and now has to feel all other feelings. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, we thought that's on their mind.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he says, I regret it. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I regret that you had to come here and you felt like you had to build this life feel like it takes a really remarkable person to inspire all of this. [SPEAKER_00]: And I want to believe that he would have gotten here as well. [SPEAKER_01]: I believe it.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I do believe is that in go bold hogs that it is a tradition for them to show up to parents weekend. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I did forget about that. [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: And that like worry, just like never really mentioned it. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I can totally see that totally me too.

[SPEAKER_00]: But it's less Richard isolated. [SPEAKER_00]: It's more like, [SPEAKER_00]: In, I think, and our best piece might disagree, but I think in season seven, like Richard and Emily are truly a package deal whereas the nuance and the layer cake of all of these Richard isolated moments, that of course are always accompanied with Emily usually, but there are solo Richard moments with each of the girls and the relationship he has with these two of them that gets lost in season seven.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's because they have this kind of, you know, package deal arrangement. [SPEAKER_00]: But I will also know it. [SPEAKER_00]: that in unto the breach when worry is graduating from Yale and they're all there. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do really appreciate that Richard is like, Laura, I take this moment, take it in, your daughter's graduating from Yale.

[SPEAKER_00]: I will take the picture. [SPEAKER_00]: I will note the time you sit there and take in this moment. [SPEAKER_00]: This is just as much your moment as it is hers. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's really special. [SPEAKER_01]: And again, I want to believe it is canon. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to believe it, because the thing is, I will, you did call to mind that Richard's heart attack kind of gave him like a sense of being like sentimental and saying everything that is on his mind and how he feels.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I could believe that that he would get that way so like I think because I want to believe it and because it's there and because we can That like we don't have to be paladino purists in that way. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like it tracks It feels like it could connect and I want it to be true and for me to sit here Be like, oh, I want that to have happened so bad and the reason we're talking about it's because it happened.

[SPEAKER_00]: It did have [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that I think that we can look at that and be like, okay, that was a good moment that it felt like they progressed to that despite the fact that every regression that they have doesn't seem to regress, [SPEAKER_01]: But it just doesn't feel like they ever go backwards because they started at such a bad place and these kind of have like not the worst opinion of each other, but they have very low opinions of what each other is capable of.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's seen in the the whole Jason debacle. [SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like like they they are who they are and that's always who they're going to be and their relationship did improve, but at the end of the day. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just that they are who they are and that I do think that given everything we talked about in the last episode in this episode which are both 15 hours long at this point.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, like we said, she does feel like the do offer because the their relationship does progress and it never really regresses because it's like such a blame game in season six. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I had a plan, you went against the plan, but now I want to have a plan, and it was Mitch and Hansberger, but you lied about it, and no one's really consulting Rory, and like, he's upset, but he never really talks to Rory about it, and he wants to kind of yell at her, but he doesn't.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that with them, it only progresses, even if he gets upset about it, it like very clearly doesn't backtrack that much, totally. [SPEAKER_00]: I also want to note before we, you know, fully closed this before we, of course, talk about it in our, we could not lose it right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: But just this, this episode that I do think there's a good parallel that the season 7 writers gave us to forgiveness and stuff and I'd rather be in Philadelphia when Richard has the hardest hack. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that worry and Laura Li are listening to Chuck Berry with him in his hospital room and it's just like a really cool parallel slash full circle moment for them because Laura Li couldn't even go in there in season one and then they're just like laughing with him joking with him reminiscing with him Chuck Berrying with him, you know, and it's fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: harder to believe, but I do think I do believe that the relationship is grown in such a way that Laurel, I would sit there in the hospital room with her dad now at this point in the relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I will note to all of that, to not feeling like they were grasped, but that they stayed the same and kind of where they were, which is not always in a good place.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they did progress and things got better between them. [SPEAKER_01]: That when we do get to the revival and she doesn't have anything [SPEAKER_01]: I hope it's just because she was drunk because that that part was probably one of my least favorite parts, just because like, girl, what did you send you like 30 years back?

[SPEAKER_01]: Totally not moment. [SPEAKER_01]: Totally. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the only thing I'll say to that because I'm sure someone will be like, well, what about this? [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: There is one moment that's coming to mind between worry and Richard in his office.

[SPEAKER_00]: Is that in season 7 when they have when he has like office hours and he's like, oh, yes, Ms. Gilmore, come in. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's like coming there moment. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe I'll do a little more research on that for our June round up because of course We're going to talk about this episode.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about the townies episode We're going to talk about the Gilmore's out of water episode and I'm honestly very curious when it comes to this episode of any of you disagree that worry was Richard specifically is do over for his relationship with Thorlie. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if we're point to you.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, tell us. [SPEAKER_01]: I did let us know. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, just let us know if you like strongly disagree if you feel like But I just want to know where like what what inspires the idea that it's not over like where in this series Yeah, come with facts.
