[SPEAKER_01]: Five, six, seven, eight. [SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim, let's talk about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Morelie and Mrs. Kim, I'm very excited. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, everybody, welcome back to Gilmour to say with Tara and Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Tara, this is Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Tara. [SPEAKER_00]: Happy May. [SPEAKER_00]: Happy May. [SPEAKER_00]: I was so excited that it's May, gosh. [SPEAKER_00]: Why? [SPEAKER_00]: I've just been ready for it. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been ready for spring to spring. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, April, we got a little taste of it here in New York, but I have a feeling May is going to be really nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're coming up on the one-year anniversary of my engagement. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's really cool. [SPEAKER_01]: Fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Wow. [SPEAKER_00]: We're officially six months out from. [SPEAKER_01]: Are we ADCID? [SPEAKER_01]: You are. [SPEAKER_01]: I say we we are. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you'll be there. [SPEAKER_00]: I am there. [SPEAKER_00]: All of us. [SPEAKER_00]: All of us is a collectible. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait to like talk about your wedding after the fact later. [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's going to be really fun. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to figure out what I should and should not talk about before the wedding and what I should save for after the wedding.
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously there's going to be so much that happens at the wedding that you know we'll [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Lee Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: The Healy Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually used to see my POV all day. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, hilarious. [SPEAKER_01]: Like not even necessarily to share it, but just like more so to share with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Be like, yeah. [UNKNOWN]: Yay. [SPEAKER_00]: Bye. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, girl. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm definitely got some footage. [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be a lot of fun and very excited. [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah, I'm excited for May. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be a really good month. [SPEAKER_00]: We have a lot of really exciting things planned for the month that we'll talk about at the end of this episode, but when I think of May, I think of Mother's Day.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that is pretty normal, especially on this podcast for us. [SPEAKER_00]: We usually use the month of May to talk about mothers and daughters. [SPEAKER_00]: And this year is no exception, what we use the whole year to talk about mothers and daughters, because this is a mother-daughter show, but we really zero in on the mother-daughter relationships in in the month of May.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel is when you get that opportunity. [SPEAKER_00]: And mother-stay is next Sunday, so we're using these next two weeks as a big opportunity to talk about moms in [SPEAKER_00]: two kind of different ways. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to start with Mrs. Kim and Laura lie. [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about Laura lie in lane and they're upbringing's being super similar a couple months ago and I really loved doing that episode with you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think our best use loved you. [SPEAKER_00]: Weighing in on that as well and we kind of teased it then and we're bringing it to fruition now that we wanted to talk about Mrs. Kim and Laura lie in the way that their parenting styles intersect parallel meet in the middle [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I'm I'm excited for this topic because I think what's so fun about Gilmore girls is that I know that a lot of people can have really complicated relationships with their mom Whether or not they're here or not, or whether or not they're absent or not So mothers they can be quite hard, but I feel like with this show it's showcases so many different mother-daughter relationships [SPEAKER_01]: So either you can see yourself, you can see something that you want.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like it's a very comforting in that nature. [SPEAKER_01]: Especially when it comes to Mrs. Kim and Laura lie because as much difference exists between those two people, feel like a lot of similarity exists in the way that they decide to parent. [SPEAKER_00]: After researching for this episode, I would agree.
[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that their differences are what the writers lead with and what they really wanted to zero in on, especially when we parallel their situations with their daughters and how they show up as moms. [SPEAKER_00]: But it was interesting to see the ways in which they are a little similar.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes in their situations, in their reactions, I do think that they will always take a different approach, always take a different approach. [SPEAKER_00]: to the way, to the relationships that they have with their daughter and their definitions of motherhood. [SPEAKER_00]: But I do think that there were more similarities than I was expecting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's what I mean, because that's always saying it. [SPEAKER_01]: It was like they're very different mothers. [SPEAKER_01]: They're very, very different in their, how they parent. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, but I think that's a given, of course. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's like, you know, that's them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Mrs. Kim and Laura, they're very, very different as people. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's, but like, there's a lot of similarities. [SPEAKER_01]: Because as we were [SPEAKER_01]: Kind of like how we wanted to discuss this topic because there's like a lot of different formats, a lot of different ways we could have gone about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: We decided on like their situations where it feels like they're parenting intersects. [SPEAKER_01]: So in my mind, we kept calling it the situation chip of Mrs. Kim and Laura Lye, which is not in a situation chip, but they end up in a lot of situations. [SPEAKER_00]: And often at the same time, [SPEAKER_00]: Or it shows up again in different episodes and that's what I'm really excited to explore with you today.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not friends. [SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't say Mrs. Kim in the war lie. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're they're they're not necessarily uh you know foe the two of them. [SPEAKER_01]: That's why it's a situation ship felt right. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: They're definitely connected. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm so intrigued to get here if I ever become a mom. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that it's so funny that you end up kind of paired up with moms because your kids found friendship and so they're for you kind of have to cross this bridge of like, are we going to be friends or are we just going to kind of be like, [SPEAKER_00]: to mom's shop or each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's so interesting because I feel like there are moments where Mrs. Kim and Laura really find that can ship with each other and other times where they're just so polar opposite and they truly are standing on different sides of the spectrum when it comes to motherhood. [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's get into it. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get into it. [SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim and Laura lie, two very, very different moms and they tell us that on the outset, like starting with their origin in the pilot, I feel like we're immediately met with okay, like this is a mom, Laura lie, who is more like her daughter's best friend than her mother, and that is the premise of the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think we're immediately introducing Mrs. Kim as the [SPEAKER_00]: when she says her iconic line, boys don't like funny girls. [SPEAKER_00]: Because I think that just like juxtaposes them instantly, whether you know it or not. [SPEAKER_00]: Because Laura is funny girl. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if anybody knows this.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's a funny girl. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you guys have to do this out there, but Laura is a funny girl. [SPEAKER_01]: I will also say, Ms. Kim kind of hit the nail on the head with that. [SPEAKER_01]: Please don't like funny girls. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I think men like funny women.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the boys like funny girls. [SPEAKER_01]: You know? [SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, hot take. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like is that the quality they're looking for when they're young and they don't really know what they want yet. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I just mean like differentiating like mature men versus immature men being boys, they don't like funny girls.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So going chronologically and moving through season one, the first time that I feel like we've really seen Mrs. Kim and Laura Light interact with each other as moms is in Kessentel and that is when Laura Light shows up to Kim's antiques because she's picking up a rocking chair which she bought a couple of weeks ago, six weeks ago.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, that is a couple, that's couple times three. [SPEAKER_00]: And so you can already tell that Mrs. Kim is over her. [SPEAKER_00]: And we already kind of got this in the pilot when Bory makes reference to Lane, like your mom hates me. [SPEAKER_00]: She hates my mother. [SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't trust on married women.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's already kind of there, but you don't see it really until, yes, where is your husband? [SPEAKER_00]: I think you're married, your name is Mrs. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, you're married. [SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe this is just all a con. [SPEAKER_00]: The long con. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no cancer cam.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's just Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: And if you put a Mrs. in front of your name, who's to deny you? [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: No one. [SPEAKER_00]: Guess no one. [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, by the time we get to kiss and tell, Mrs. Kim is over her. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think it's just because she left the chair there.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's because like, this is how she views Lorelai. [SPEAKER_00]: like, yeah, flighty mom. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's also coming off of this irritation and this kind of disdain and like shamefulness she's casting upon Lorelei because she's just overheard worry coming in to Kim's antiques to telling that she got kissed.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and she shoplifted. [SPEAKER_00]: So she's a criminal. [SPEAKER_01]: She's a criminal. [SPEAKER_01]: She's a kisser and a criminal. [SPEAKER_01]: A kisser and a criminal. [SPEAKER_00]: That's like all strikes and Mrs. Kim's book. [SPEAKER_00]: It's true. [SPEAKER_00]: So Mrs. Kim says, maybe you should be less busy and then you can remember to pick up chairs and then you can keep your daughter from running around and kissing boys.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Laura lies like, what? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Lane is a young and pressional girl she doesn't need to hear about your daughter's kissing. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura lies is, where is that kissing anybody? [SPEAKER_00]: Before I ask her after asking her if the paint lives are secure, just really fastened on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, she is. [SPEAKER_00]: She came in here and told then she kissed a boy in the grocery store at the grocery store where we buy our food and this is how rural life finds out that her daughter has had her first kiss and not only that that she kept it for more lie. [SPEAKER_00]: So of to find out where Mrs. Kim of all people that her daughter didn't tell her something something seemingly for the very first time that must be so jarring because Lane is the one that keeps things from her mom and [SPEAKER_00]: No, she'll be by association told Mrs. Kim because Mrs. Kim overheard.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, to be a fair, they were being rather loud. [SPEAKER_01]: And when Mrs. Kim comes out, it's like obvious, she heard you girls, like, obviously, this is a long back. [SPEAKER_01]: But I do think it's like really like a beautiful sort of plot line that it comes from Mrs. Kim, knowing how we're going to continue to compare and contrast their mother daughter relationships.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think it just adds to that situation, but they're in a, like, this is probably actually the last person she would want to hear this from, definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that this is when we kind of note the first key difference in lower-rise approach to motherhood versus lanes approach to motherhood because we haven't seen it in actions yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lane and Mrs. Kim, what did I say? [SPEAKER_00]: Lane's approach to motherhood. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, that's later. [SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim's approach to [SPEAKER_00]: motherhood with Lane. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we see it until later, but Laura lives a pro-chair is to basically give Rory and open door to tell her, at Luke's, and Rory doesn't take the opportunity until Laura lives basically just lays it out for her in the kitchen.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, so, kiss any good boy's lately. [SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim could never. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Mrs. Kim will never. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that Lane would make it past. [SPEAKER_01]: She, the first instance, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: But I also don't think that Mrs. Kim would give her an open door to tell her about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's what I'm saying. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, to that, I think it would start with you, kissed a boy. [SPEAKER_01]: And this was the boy and now you're grounded. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that'd be it. [SPEAKER_01]: Laura, I think she kind of in both of those instances wanted to be her friend.
[SPEAKER_01]: She was like, you told your friend. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm your friend too. [SPEAKER_01]: And now I'm leaving this door open because I'm kind of jealous because now I want to know. [SPEAKER_01]: And then in the kitchen, I can't tell if that's mom or if that's friend. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's also for next week's episode.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the same mom card on the [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it's it's true and it was kind of the first it's the first source of conflict really Not really conflict we get some conflict and kill me now, but it's the first source of like yeah That best friend mother daughter oh my gosh my my daughter had this first big moment [SPEAKER_00]: In her like teenage adolescence, it shouldn't tell me about it and I feel really left out and excluded And I feel like I did something wrong even though I've always set her up to tell me everything and how do I approach this?
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that Mrs. Kim would ever or at this point in their relationship would ever approach her daughter with that sense of wanting to understand her daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: No, Laura lays always striving to understand. [SPEAKER_00]: Marie. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's true most of the time.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they overlap when the mom card comes out. [SPEAKER_01]: Mrs. Kim in Lorelei, which we can talk about next week, but sometimes I feel like with Mrs. Kim, she wants to apply the understanding to Lane. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is who you are, so I understand it. [SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to explain to me who you are, because I have laid it out for you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Whereas Lorelei, there's like, and there's more of an openness, of course. [SPEAKER_00]: And we really see these two parenting styles juxtapose up against each other in double day. [SPEAKER_01]: This is really the first time that like they really truly intersect because we kind of can we can think about how Lane would have you know approach to her mom or like how her mom would have found out about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what she would have. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, she doesn't find out about Bible Kiss Bible in Season 3. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, here, this is like truly their parenting styles, really intersecting, because they both been lied to about this day, because, or I thought they were going to the movies, didn't know that there was going to be a boy there for Lane.
[SPEAKER_01]: They lied to her so that she wouldn't have to lie to Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: This episode always feels so funny to me in terms of Lorelei's principles, because the big thing that comes away from Lorelei here, between Rory and Lorelei, [SPEAKER_01]: Is less any sort of admonishment about lying?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's more so. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't lie to Mrs. Kim and you know that because I can't lie to another mother. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and more even says that before Laura likes as a to-her at the end of the episode. [SPEAKER_00]: When Lane and Laurie are kind of devising this plan, Laurie asks Lane, like, what'd you tell your mom?
[SPEAKER_00]: And Lane says I told her that I was going to spend the evening here with you guys, and they're kind of like, we have a lot of, she calls, or I've already put, you know, [SPEAKER_00]: parameters in place in Kishi does, I'll tell her we're going to get something e we're going to run to movie and Lane says, so what are you going to tell Laura lie?
[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, I don't know, she wouldn't tell my mom what she and where he says, I don't know if she feels good lying to another mother. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like this weird code thing with her. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Laura lie echoes that back to her when they do end up kind of having this face to face moment at the end of the episode where Lane [SPEAKER_00]: And Rory are standing there with Todd and Dean and Todd kills me in this moment when the two moms come up Lane Kim my mom my mom two moms.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's gotta be bad Every time He like Loki had some lines to serve. [SPEAKER_00]: He had some really good lines especially after your lower-light walks away And he's like that's Rory's mom. [SPEAKER_00]: She's a big man, which was lower-light's takeaway from this [SPEAKER_01]: Because, like, of course with Laura Light and Lori, it really is just about honesty.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, you need to be honest with me, like, that's how this is going to work between us kid. [SPEAKER_01]: Ultimately, it's like cool. [SPEAKER_01]: You lied to me, so it doesn't have to lie to Mrs. Cam, like, it feels thoughtful almost, but she's not going to lie to another mother.
[SPEAKER_00]: And she does say that to her at the end, like when we're in Laura Lier having this deep brief and she says like you didn't lie to me, you lied to me, so I don't have to lie to Mrs. Kim, you really are my daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: And Laurie asks her, would you have lied for us to Mrs. Kim?
[SPEAKER_00]: No, because that lady's scary. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't lie to another mother. [SPEAKER_00]: That's breaking the code. [SPEAKER_00]: Look, I know Mrs. Kim and Robert Duval in the great Santini's share or striking resemblance, but she is Lane's mom. [SPEAKER_00]: She has the right to tell me and she can't do something.
[SPEAKER_00]: You have to respect that and I really have to respect that. [SPEAKER_00]: And again, we can get more into that next week, but I think that at the end of the day, it's like no matter what lower light disagree disagrees with when it comes to Mrs. Kim's parenting. [SPEAKER_00]: So because they have this conversation where you can tell that lower light doesn't really understand Mrs. Kim in the diner when [SPEAKER_00]: she comes barging in and says like where are they.
[SPEAKER_00]: I call your house. [SPEAKER_00]: No answer. [SPEAKER_00]: You're here. [SPEAKER_00]: Where are they? [SPEAKER_00]: They went to the movies with a boy. [SPEAKER_00]: You left them and go with a boy. [SPEAKER_00]: Dean's raised boyfriend. [SPEAKER_00]: She goes, well, you may let your daughter go out and hang out with boys, but that doesn't mean I let my daughter do that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Laura, like, I didn't know you didn't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, I didn't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I will say when Mrs. Kim walks in and she is kind of freaking out. [SPEAKER_01]: Loyalty says, you've had a lot of time on your hands to her. [SPEAKER_01]: Like as Mrs. Kim is freaking out, I was like, girl, three episodes ago, when your daughter didn't come home, what were you doing?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I was going to bring that up afterwards, because I think that was good. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to bring that up as kind of a follow-up to this because Mrs. Kim and Laura I have very different approaches to this when their daughters lie to them. [SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim immediately grounds Lane and according to Lane uses the word Convent and Siberia sometimes in the same sentence when it comes to her punishment.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's no end in sight for how long she's going to be punished. [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas Laura Lye, again, similarly to double, not double date. [SPEAKER_00]: This is double date. [SPEAKER_00]: Kiss and tell is like, I want to understand why you did this. [SPEAKER_00]: And where he's like, I didn't want to lie to you because I didn't want you to.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want to lie to you, but I did so that you wouldn't have to lie to another mom. [SPEAKER_00]: And so there was a bit of like you said, kind of softness there of like, oh my god, I can't believe you did that because that's so nice. [SPEAKER_00]: But also like what you did was still wrong, but I'm not going to lock you up and throw away the key as Mrs. Kim.
[SPEAKER_00]: kind of alludes to when Laura like goes to Mrs. Kim and basically [SPEAKER_00]: wants her to know, like, hey, I don't want you to feel like you can't send the lane over to our house. [SPEAKER_00]: I promise I will make sure that I know where they're going at all times, worries never lied to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I love this olive branch that she offers Mrs. Kim because it's really the first time that I feel the two of them see each other. [SPEAKER_00]: Even if it's, you know, it takes them a bit of time to get there. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a really, really tender moment between the two of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And kind of one of the only times they're parenting meets in the middle in a place where I think they [SPEAKER_01]: I had a lot of reflection in this conversation between them after, it seems like it's the next day, Lane has been issued her punishment, and now she's come to appeal to Mrs. Kim about Lane, about how good of a kid she is, your specs are parents.
[SPEAKER_01]: She wants her to feel like she can come over there, but Lane lied to her, and she must be punished, and this is where she's like really telling her all of the great qualities of Lane. [SPEAKER_01]: It lands with Mrs. Kim, but she keeps coming back to the idea of like, I don't care what other kids do.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care what teenagers do. [SPEAKER_01]: I care what Lane does. [SPEAKER_01]: And she didn't throw away the key. [SPEAKER_01]: She lets us know. [SPEAKER_01]: It's in the kitchen, which is a plus love her. [SPEAKER_01]: I love Emily Crotto. [SPEAKER_01]: She delivers them so perfectly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So perfectly. [SPEAKER_01]: What I think is always interesting about Lane and Mrs. Kim and like the cross section of their parenting is that a lot of the times Mrs. Kim really is in the right when it comes to reflecting on worry and lower a lie because she says Borla says Borla is never lied to me like that before and she says that you know of.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she did not lie to her about the kiss, she just didn't tell her, and so like there is an instance of like lying to her keeping things from her, her own birthday party, she kind of lied to her, and she said, no, I'm pretty sure that was the first time and it was definitely the last. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, that's simply not true, on both sides of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's quite interesting that Mrs. Kim is the one to be like, like, you know of. [SPEAKER_01]: Because, yeah, she's the one that's coming to her and appealing to her about Lane and how great she is, but she's not getting punished for lying. [SPEAKER_01]: The worry isn't, but Lane is.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that I don't know what that says in terms of like where Lane goes because she does continue to lie to her mother. [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say I don't think it changes that the punishment doesn't necessarily reinforce to lean that she can't lie to her mother. [SPEAKER_00]: It reinforces that she can't get caught.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: To be honest, I was kind of like that, too. [SPEAKER_00]: So I got it. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I was definitely, I don't know, I wasn't really lying. [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know anything to lie about. [SPEAKER_01]: I was watching a girl's please. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it was serious.
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't just about though. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: We've had this conversation about our moms before my mom was very strict. [SPEAKER_00]: And for whatever reason, it took issue with certain things that I just felt were normal. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's where I had done a five with Lane.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is that Lane is like, yeah, I just wanted to go to the movies with a couple of people. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yes, it was technically a double date. [SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know why they didn't sit in like this or each other. [SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim never gets that far, but, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but yeah, it seems like it should be normal teenage things, which is what Laura is saying.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's a teenager. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: She's 16. [SPEAKER_00]: She had a crush on a boy. [SPEAKER_00]: She's, she's like, but she lied. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, yeah, but teenagers slip up sometimes. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care what teenagers do. [SPEAKER_00]: I care what Lane does.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is when Laura likes to live with the line that we talked about in the Lane and Laura light upbringing episode where she says, look, when I was a teenager, my parents tried to keep me locked up. [SPEAKER_00]: They tried to force me to become what they had in mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: In my case, it really didn't work. [SPEAKER_00]: I just think sometimes if I had had a little more space or someone to listen to me, things might have turned out differently. [SPEAKER_00]: I got lucky because having worry was the best thing to ever happen, but let's be honest, I certainly don't want worried to turn out like me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim says, I don't want lane to turn out like you either. [SPEAKER_00]: I know lots of kills me. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that, but they also say I just want lane to be safe. [SPEAKER_00]: I just want to be safe, and this is a big bonding moment between the two of them because Mrs. Kim is very emotional.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that she talks about parenthood with anybody, maybe with her family, and with this ring. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, she's built, but not like this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I feel like this is the most, and like, I'd say not even about parenting. [SPEAKER_01]: it's about your child and like reflecting on them and like as like parenting feels like a big huge bubble like a huge like vague term but like it's like applying it actually to the person who is living in your house because though I really does see her as a person and that's what she's talking about here it's like she's telling her her good qualities and really like appealing to her that she's giving her all these compliments and I think that Mrs. Campiers said.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think she likes hearing this about Lane, even though Lane will still be locked up. [SPEAKER_01]: We're still has to like scale a tree to talk to her, but ultimately, like the way that this comes out at the end, is that Lane can be in the yard, and so we're always going to have Santa Claus's street and yell at her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Shout to her, rather, not yell at her, but that's because of Lordly. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, because Laura likes not all these things about Lane, and I think it was less about parenting and that moment and more about seeing her as a person, totally, which can be parenting, sure, but it just felt like less about having like the principles of for the sake of it and more about applying it to the person that you're raising.
[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_01]: What I would have loved to have seen now as I was watching Double Date last night was like, I tell Tara, like, what a good show. [SPEAKER_00]: Love the show. [SPEAKER_01]: I would have loved an instance of Mrs. Kim returning this for Lorelie, of like Mrs. Kim giving Lorelie parenting advice.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it like actually landing in such a way that she takes it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think we ever get that. [SPEAKER_01]: We don't just realize the main character. [SPEAKER_01]: But of course. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I think the only time that we come close to you and I want to bring it back to what we were.
[SPEAKER_00]: We kind of touched on earlier. [SPEAKER_00]: I think the only time we ever really get close to lower life reacting in a way that Mrs. Kim would as well is in worry dance. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: With more life just absolutely unleashes on worry at the end of the episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But, Lori has the agency to throw back to her mom, whereas I don't think Lane does.
[SPEAKER_00]: We see Lane get, you know, really heated in a just get a task and we'll get there in a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: But, Lori is like, you're just mad because I messed up and I didn't in front of Grandma and she nailed you for it. [SPEAKER_00]: You know I didn't do anything wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: And like, Lori's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: And she's right. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: She's right in that situation. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that that's the heat that L'Orely is throwing on to her because we don't ever really see L'Orely yell at Lori like this. [SPEAKER_01]: And like that's why when she comes in and Laura let's when Mrs. Kim comes in to the signar and she's more like you had a lot of time on your hands.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my girl if you didn't know what your daughter was, you would be panicked. [SPEAKER_00]: And she says that to her. [SPEAKER_00]: She says that to her in season four. [SPEAKER_00]: She said if I woke up and I didn't know where you were, I would be a wreck and on that note staying in the realm of season one.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd like to parallel [SPEAKER_00]: PSI love the second-alast episode the penultimate episode of season one two in the clamor in the clamor in the clamor in the clamor in season four Because when Rory and Laura like it into their fight and Rory runs away and goes to Emily and Richards Yes, I really feel we can parallel this moment to season four [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I actually paralleled season four to the end of season five.
[SPEAKER_00]: I did as well. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I did as well. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all one big one. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all kind of one big moving piece, but just to keep it within the realm of season one, I feel like Laura Leipanix and calls everybody she knows when she realizes that worry is not at home.
[SPEAKER_00]: Max comes over suki, like, you know, called Dean, call this person, call that person until Emily calls her and is like, I just want to let you know where he's here with us. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, what? [SPEAKER_00]: And she goes to get in her car. [SPEAKER_00]: Like she's like, I, she even, upon reflection is like, I got in my car and drove halfway there and came back because her impetus is to go and get her daughter.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim faces the same thing in season four when she finds out from Laura lie of all people after Roy calls her famously, Lane goes to CBGBs. [SPEAKER_00]: She leaves the house. [SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't tell her mom. [SPEAKER_00]: She knocks on Roy's door at four o'clock in the morning, being like, hey, I messed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Lori is like, you have to call your mom. [SPEAKER_00]: No, so she calls. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura, like, Laura, like, picks up the phone and says, I hate you. [SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite moments. [SPEAKER_00]: And Laura lies the one to call Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_00]: And after after saying to Lori, you know, if I woke up in the middle of the night, and you weren't in your bed, like, I would be a wreck.
[SPEAKER_00]: And she's already faced that. [SPEAKER_00]: It's mom code here. [SPEAKER_00]: She's called Mrs. Kim who has just absolutely like called everyone. [SPEAKER_00]: She knows people are praying the fire department is there and Mrs. Kim asks for the address. [SPEAKER_00]: Even though she knows where where Elaine is, like Laura Lightnew, where where he was.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's different levels of fear there for them. [SPEAKER_00]: Laurelias, I think her ego is bruised because Rory, she and Rory got into a fight and Rory ran to Richard and Emily, and that is like a big hurdle for her to overcome emotionally. [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas Mrs. Kim is just panicked that lane, it wasn't in her bed and went to Yale.
[SPEAKER_00]: And or went, she doesn't know this yet, but went to New York. [SPEAKER_00]: And, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and did up going to worries. [SPEAKER_00]: But what stops her from going to Yale is when she sees Luke and Luke says, Oh, yeah, she already called and said she wouldn't be in for work today.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really responsible kid. [SPEAKER_00]: She called you. [SPEAKER_00]: She called Laura Lies. [SPEAKER_00]: She didn't call me and that's what Laura Lies facing in season one episode 20 is like she went to my parents and she did not talk to me. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually think it's like super similar in, like, of course, it's very different for Lori to go to Lora Lies parents than Lane to go to the Lora Lies to escape kind of what the punishment or kind of the overwhelmed feeling of like getting out.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that with Lora Lies, it's like, that's the life that she doesn't want for Lori. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't want her to want that. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that the same thing comes across with Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't want her to want other people. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't want her to want that life that Rory has.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that ultimately, for Mrs. Kim and for Laura Lye, both of their kids went somewhere that they would have rather than not. [SPEAKER_01]: They wanted them to come to them. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's like kind of like a sticking point for Mrs. Kim is Rory and Laura Lye. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that ultimately, like the impact is very different because it's very different situations.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that they end up in the same place [SPEAKER_01]: Which, hopefully. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that, we'll like pair-allowing that to four and five, like boring, leaving to go to the Gilmar's permanently and kind of feels the same. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure. [SPEAKER_00]: But moving into season two, I think one of the biggest parallels between Mrs. Kim and Laurelized parenting styles come in in a test get a task at it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we're meant to feel that parallel between the two of them. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually put like the actual, what happens with Lane in a Tiskita tasket. [SPEAKER_01]: I lined that up against the Lorelai's graduation day. [SPEAKER_01]: I did as well. [SPEAKER_01]: This felt like lying about a boy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but to be fair, I feel like within the [SPEAKER_00]: the scope of a test get a task it to start. [SPEAKER_00]: We have Lorelie and Mrs. Kim both facing the reality that their daughters went on a picnic or on a date or attempted to with him to picnic and attempted picnic with Henry with someone who was not there intended.
[SPEAKER_00]: date for the day. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they both lane. [SPEAKER_00]: It's digitized. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And for worry, it's dean. [SPEAKER_00]: And yes, very different circumstances, but similar reactions from their moms in the sense that they were surprised. [SPEAKER_00]: Both Laurel and Mrs. Kim are facing their daughters going out with people who they weren't expecting them to, even if Elaine's was just an attempt.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Elaine comes home and her mom immediately blasts her David came back here 15 minutes ago, where were you? [SPEAKER_00]: you know, trying to sell me a subscription to the Wall Street Journal. [SPEAKER_00]: No, she says, you know the rules. [SPEAKER_00]: No boys, not unless I approve and I don't approve.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Laine says, how do you know? [SPEAKER_00]: And I love that she says the terror because Laine never really gives or at least we don't see Laine give her mother push back on her rules. [SPEAKER_00]: She usually just like, okay, Mama, and she goes to her room. [SPEAKER_00]: She accepts her punishment.
[SPEAKER_00]: She does whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: Lanes says, how do you know you're sneaking your lying. [SPEAKER_00]: That means something's wrong with this boy. [SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like we get a very similar conversation, though, different circumstances, between Laura Lyon Rory and when Rory goes out with Jess for the picnic and she comes back and she's like, hey, I, you know, went to the bookstore and me at pizza and Laura, like, who'd you go with?
[SPEAKER_00]: Jess and I feel like we're easy little sheepish and her, like, admitting that she went out with Jess and that she had a good time. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, I really think this is a bad idea, but because she talked to Dean. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but also because he's saying that Henry calling Mrs. Kim to sell her the Wall Street Journal is the same level as Dean Donning, the lower line.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that also the differences here are that Mrs. Kim does not know, Henry. [SPEAKER_00]: Outside of him trying to sell her a subscription to the Wall Street Journal, and she didn't know him. [SPEAKER_00]: She would probably like him and approve of him, but that's the problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: The difference here is that Laura like does know Jess, and she does not like him. [SPEAKER_00]: And yes, she knows enough about him. [SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't know him, but she knows enough. [SPEAKER_00]: She knows enough they've had interactions with each other and I mean, shit, I wouldn't like him if he spoke to me that way and then was dating my daughter or not dating yet, but like interested in my daughter spending time with my daughter friends, their friends and my daughter.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't like it at all, so I totally understand, I totally got it, but I think that that's where the difference is exist. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, of course, in the obvious that, like, where is a boyfriend? [SPEAKER_00]: And Dean was very upset, and that is the other piece that comes into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what makes worry upset. [SPEAKER_00]: Is that she's like, you know, Dean told me. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, oh, Dean's talking to you. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, well, you can talk to you. [SPEAKER_00]: You were off with Jess. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, I wasn't off with Jess.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he outbid him. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the rule. [SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, I know what the rules are. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, none of them. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't like the rules to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I broke the rules. [SPEAKER_00]: But what she says is, guys like this get into trouble, which if you hang out with them gets you into trouble and I don't want you to get into trouble, I've been there, okay, you haven't and I do think this is a similar connotation of like, you're sneaking your lying, that means something's wrong with this boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Loyalized bringing up like the idea of like, yeah, those are the rules, but like you don't have to follow them if like you don't want to whereas Mrs. Kim is also bringing up the rules. [SPEAKER_01]: of like ultimately they're like serving the same purpose as like worry is trying to use the rules against the situation she's trying to be like well that was the rules that i had to do that like whereas yeah it's like those are the rules but like okay but if you knew this guy you would like him yes she does really say like worry this isn't about the rule this is about Dean being concerned that you're hanging out with someone who could get you hurt people are concerned about you you're young and naive and you think everyone has some good inside if you just give them a chance
[SPEAKER_00]: And so it really is like these two moms being like, I know better than you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've been there. [SPEAKER_00]: You haven't. [SPEAKER_00]: I have rules. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't follow those rules. [SPEAKER_00]: Something's wrong with this boy. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're coming out of from two similar angles.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just want Lane to be safe. [SPEAKER_00]: I just want worried to be safe. [SPEAKER_00]: It really comes back. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Around mommy knows best. [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't she? [SPEAKER_01]: Mother knows just. [SPEAKER_01]: Cute tangled. [SPEAKER_01]: She didn't know best on that one.
[SPEAKER_01]: That was a very different circumstances. [SPEAKER_01]: wasn't even her real mom. [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, I digress. [SPEAKER_01]: But when we do have that scene between Lane and Mrs. Kim later, and she does find out that he was perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: It's already ruined, like it's already over.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Lane ultimately ruined it just by like not telling her mom about it, but if her mom knew and her mom approved, like, would she have found Henry as appealing? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as she did. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't really think so. [SPEAKER_00]: And they end in two very different ways.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we get another reference back to lock you up, throw away the key with Emily and Laura Lyon. [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about this in the lane. [SPEAKER_00]: Laura Lyon upbringing episode, but we didn't talk about the aftermath, which is Laura Lyon then taking everything her mom said.
[SPEAKER_00]: And [SPEAKER_00]: And if for all intents and purposes, a lot of the tactics that Mrs. Kim has tried with her daughter, similarly to how Emily operated with Laurel and she goes to Rory and she says, like, I don't want to lock you up and throw away the key. [SPEAKER_00]: Your judgment means something to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't be your eyes and your ears and your brain. [SPEAKER_00]: I am concerned about jazz. [SPEAKER_00]: However, you are a smart girl, a good judge of character in the fact that he seems to like you give him a couple of brownie points. [SPEAKER_00]: If you think he's a decent guy, I have to respect your judgment, but I'm asking you to be careful.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim does not give the same agency to her daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: she still wants to be her eyes, her ears, and her brain. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is kind of interesting though that reflection conversation where is like, Laura, she's not coming around to it, but she's like coming around to Rory being the guide for this between the two of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's kind of going to take her lead and be a lot more amenable if she can. [SPEAKER_01]: Whereas Mrs. Kim finds out that Henry was Korean and she's like, maybe we can call his mom. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, she kind of comes around a little bit, but it's like, that's not the point. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, the point was you need to trust me and let me divide, but I didn't trust you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you did find someone that you would have, I did find someone you would have approved of, but it's too late. [SPEAKER_01]: So like, ultimately, they kind of end in the same place, but like, through very different means. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And when it comes down to it, Lorelight is going about it the right way of like really leaning into Rory and her experience of what's going on here and like trying to trust her because like telling someone like especially a teenager that you trust them, I feel like [SPEAKER_01]: puts so lot less pressure on them than like with lane situation of like if her mom is like a trust you I think she wouldn't have lied quite so much at least in my experience of like teens that I saw of like their parents didn't trust them so they were the crazy ones
[SPEAKER_01]: See? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think my parents and look like they were doing this for the first time. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all good. [SPEAKER_00]: I've moved on, but they're my parents and trust me. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but they didn't trust me to make third decisions because they were like, you're young and, you know, kind of what Laura that was saying.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're young and you're naive and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah [SPEAKER_00]: emotionally developed and to make every single right decision ever, but I needed to learn how to make mistakes on my own, and I felt a little too sheltered in that regard, and I so I empathize with Lane a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like if we're like assessing who wore it better, who did it better? [SPEAKER_01]: I think, of course, like Lorelei handled it better, but it's hard to look at Mrs. Kim and be like you're making every wrong choice just because we don't like what is coming from it, but it's like she has an idea of what she wants lane to be like and what she like rules she has and like Lorelei says it's like it's up to Mrs. Kim to decide what lane can he can't do, that we have to like if her [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to, I don't want to be like, you're doing things fine because you're making lean sad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, lean's happiness is not a consideration in this. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, no. [SPEAKER_01]: It's really just obedience, following the rule, not lying fair. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think the lean is quite respectful. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, yes, I think Lane is respectful. [SPEAKER_00]: I think when Laura likes us to miss his Kim and double date, like I've never met a kid who respects her parents as much as Lane respects you, I think that there is a lot of truth to that, but I also am on Mrs. Kim side that it's like we're respecting us as obeying our rules.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, there is absolutely that too of like, you know, the amount of schemes Lane loves a scheme. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Are you scheming against your parents if you're expecting them? [SPEAKER_00]: it's like you can have respect again like I respected my parents I just wanted them to respect my judgment as well and I feel like that existed quite yeah between us when I was 16 years old by at the same time for the better you know like sometimes you don't need to respect 16 year old me [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely.
[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, it's just like that place for a big theater.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's really what happens. [SPEAKER_01]: Like when you're training a dog, that's such a bad one before. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, you know what you mean? [SPEAKER_01]: It's like you don't really ignore them when they're doing something bad. [SPEAKER_01]: And then you just talk about all their good qualities.
[SPEAKER_01]: We shouldn't raise children like we're raising dogs, but just fit. [SPEAKER_01]: I just get into the moment. [SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like this is like the circumstances are not quite the same in just going to task it, but like Lane and Roy are always going to have very parallel storylines because Lane is basically in narrative craft, worries be plot every time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's always been a kind of parallel, it's always going to kind of serve some sort of purpose to worry storyline. [SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like the actual like lying about a boy really comes in in the realize graduation day to like parallel Henry and the attempted picnic with Lane and Mrs. Kim finding out about it because of David.
[SPEAKER_01]: What an arc. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_01]: That was a sense. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I think we were cousins actually, but like come on cousins. [SPEAKER_01]: We could still be friends. [SPEAKER_01]: But then in the wise graduation day, of course, for he goes to New York.
[SPEAKER_00]: to see Jess and to be fair that was not planned. [SPEAKER_00]: Lane had a plan. [SPEAKER_00]: Lori did this very spontaneously. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's almost worse though, because it's like also carelessly. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because it's not Lori. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, to be fair though, running a scheme.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, Lane, it's not really out of character. [SPEAKER_01]: This is more out of character, but as much as she's lying to Lorely, I mean, I guess she didn't really get the chance to lie to Lorely. [SPEAKER_01]: She just, Lorely trusted her to go to school. [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: She did not.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when she comes back, she's the one that's like openly admitting everything. [SPEAKER_01]: And Laura lives response to it is like, well, this should be about me. [SPEAKER_00]: I find it interesting that Rory Punches herself preemptively. [SPEAKER_00]: She's punishing herself the way Mrs. Kim would punish Lane.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, you know, I wonder she got inspiration. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe of like, I have treated you in such a way that like, I'm, I'm the Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: You're a lower lie and I'm morey and I'm also a Mrs. Kim, because you're not going to punish me in the way that I feel. [SPEAKER_00]: The way that I took that I deserve.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I never really thought of that. [SPEAKER_01]: And so I said that that she was like, okay, what has happened to Lane every time she's done something wrong? [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, now this is what needs to happen to me. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: If I'm being honest, I think that Lorelai's approach to it is probably the way the right way.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, should she be punished for going to New York? [SPEAKER_01]: Probably. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's so out of character, and so not who she is. [SPEAKER_01]: But Lorelai kind of like piling on herself about it. [SPEAKER_01]: And like denying lying to herself about liking a boy, not so much as lying to her mom, that I think that Lorelai handles that well.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think she handles it apparently. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's the thing, is that when your kid comes to you and already feels so guilty about a situation and is punishing themselves, more than you would ever imagine punishing them yourself, it's like, what am I going to do? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to do take ideas from this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, right? [SPEAKER_00]: I remember during the pandemic, I had a doctor's appointment here and I drove my car in to because I didn't want to take public transportation. [SPEAKER_00]: It was like June of 2020. [SPEAKER_00]: So no one was vaccinated. [SPEAKER_00]: I had a doctor's appointment here.
[SPEAKER_00]: I really needed to get to it because I had been to the doctor in four months. [SPEAKER_00]: And it was an OB appointment and I was like I really want to just like have this and I feel like I need to do this And so I drove in so I didn't have to take public transportation I parked in your my apartment.
[SPEAKER_00]: I spent the night there so that I could wake up and drive myself to my appointment and not take the subway And I got coffee and I came back to my car and my car was gone and I was like My car is gone, but here's the thing is that like technically is on my car. [SPEAKER_00]: It's my parents car and I was so scared to tell my mom [SPEAKER_00]: I'm almost 30 years old now.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm how old was I? [SPEAKER_00]: I was 28. [SPEAKER_00]: No, there's 20 years old. [SPEAKER_01]: There's 20 years old or an age that you could be where you're driving your parents' car and it's gone, where you wouldn't immediately be like, okay, I'm going to lock myself on my room and they will knock if need dinner.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, no matter if you have your own house, I have kids, like, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, if this happens, you're like, please, like, I'm 17 again. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, lock me. [SPEAKER_00]: No, that's how you found room. [SPEAKER_00]: And I called my mom and I said to her I said listen I have to tell you something and the thing is I don't want you to I said if you're upset I understand but I need to problem-solve right now because you cannot possibly be more upset with me than I am with me right now And she was like okay, actually I could be she's like watch me.
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know [SPEAKER_00]: And so I pulled her and and I think that that really was the reality was I was like mom I'm beating myself up over this. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a mistake. [SPEAKER_00]: I am very upset with myself. [SPEAKER_00]: You cannot possibly be more angry at me than I already am.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just need a problem solved right now and I need you to be there with me and she was like all right [SPEAKER_00]: And that was like a, that was a big moment for us because in the past, I feel like I would have gotten, you know, y'know, y'all that and I managed and, and whatever because I made a mistake and because I messed up and I was either careless or irresponsible or whatever but like, it was just a situation where the sign, so it was, it had been towed because there was a sign that was behind a tree that said there was no standing between two and four pm that day and I had gotten there and I was so excited to see that space open and it was like one o'clock and it was [SPEAKER_00]: and I didn't see the sign because it was behind a tree.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's like the best case scenario. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, listen, I went. [SPEAKER_00]: I knew exactly where the car was because I called 411. [SPEAKER_00]: I ended up having to take us an Uber or cab to my appointment. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, okay, well, at the end of the day.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the day, what I came here to defeat the purpose of this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: But it was more over that moment with my mom because I was just like, I already feel so bad about this, but you knew where that I was. [SPEAKER_00]: Four-one-one told me because it gave me a license plate number and they were able to tell me where it was.
[SPEAKER_00]: So because it had happened to my ex-boyfriend years before, I was like, I've been through this before somebody else I know who to call. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I called, I'm sorry, three-one-one, four-one-one, I can't remember. [SPEAKER_00]: No four-one-one is information. [SPEAKER_00]: I called three-one-one that helped me.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I've learned as the T. Maybe they were. [SPEAKER_00]: For a long one, it's got the four on one. [SPEAKER_00]: But three one one really helped me. [SPEAKER_00]: I went to my daughter's point, and then I walked to like, it was like all the way by, you know, 12th Avenue and 30 something street.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was so lucky because they were like, do you have the insurance? [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, or the registration. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I think so. [SPEAKER_00]: And it was in the glove compartment and my driver's license matched the address on the registration because the car was a registered case.
[SPEAKER_00]: My biggest fear was that it was going to have to go home and then my parents were going to have to come into the city and get this car. [SPEAKER_00]: And it ended up working out really well for me, but it was a really scary moment. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was mostly scared not because I thought I had lost a car because I was scared of telling my parents that I had lost a car.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that was really what it was. [SPEAKER_01]: Because I was like, if this car had been stolen and you're like, you can't be more mad at me than I am. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, actually, I could be more mad. [SPEAKER_00]: But you knew where it was, but what you do know it was that I was in a no parking zone for two hours That's good no idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know First I was like tear the cars the car no, no, it was I knew it had gone towed I just was like I don't know what happened and I don't know how I could have missed this song I like I literally walked around and then I looked at the sign. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, oh my god I got to towed [SPEAKER_00]: It was a really tough day, but it ended up working out.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it was a moment between me and my mom. [SPEAKER_00]: That was really, really cool for me because I was like, or nearly I'd be really nervous to tell her something like this. [SPEAKER_00]: But it was one of those moments where I went to her and I was like, I'm already mad enough at myself.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like this is not what I need right now. [SPEAKER_00]: What I need is to figure out how to get her back. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was so upset with myself. [SPEAKER_00]: My mom was like, [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and that's kind of how refills when she's like on the bus home like she's just making a list of like all of the ways that she feels horrible Because she probably feels sick because like she's missing her mom's cry.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because of this it's the only reason I like parallel that to a Tisketotaske is because like that's the true like lying about what has happened, but's transpired despite one is scheming and one is not [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say that's the, that's like the real glaring difference between these things is that Lane doesn't come home and immediately like punish herself for doing something wrong.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's actually really mad at her mom for feeling like she had to lie to her about it. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, I didn't want to tell you because, you know, I didn't know how to tell you and that is just like a pitfall of their relationship. [SPEAKER_01]: You know what's funny though is in these instances, worry usually like when it comes to a boy and she's like kind of lying to her mom about it is usually making a bad choice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's not like horrible choice, but like it's like when it comes to lane, lane is trying to see Henry who like Mrs. Kim would approve of and is like actually a very nice guy and is just trying to go on a fucking picnic. [SPEAKER_01]: Lori is trying to follow the arbitrary rules of the town set forth by her to go on a date with Jess.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like she's on her own scheme. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, Lori, this is your boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, let this guy have bought your basket and go with your boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: And then she goes, she misses her mom's graduation to go see Jess. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, girl, you're making bad choices.
[SPEAKER_01]: And your mom keeps like being like, that's okay, like I trust you and it's like we do need to let her make these mistakes, but I think the thing I'm trying to like hone in on is that like Wayne is like not making that choice. [SPEAKER_01]: She's just making choices that her mom doesn't like.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's picking good guns. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure. [SPEAKER_00]: Todd excluded. [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say Todd doesn't count. [SPEAKER_00]: Todd doesn't count. [SPEAKER_00]: But I want to talk about David Galsky. [SPEAKER_00]: And I want to talk about the situation that happens from Kegmax into the party, the party.
[SPEAKER_00]: in season three, Keg Max, into Sega Night Gracie, and it's a very interesting out of character moment for Mrs. Kim, because to kind of parallel it up against what we just talked about in Lorelai's graduation day where Rory is just punishing herself. [SPEAKER_00]: Lane does the same thing when this happens with Mrs. Kim.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's punishing herself because her mom won't punish her because her mom just isn't speaking to her. [SPEAKER_00]: after she calls her. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, what a surprise. [SPEAKER_01]: She not actually underlocking key. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, and Mrs. can throw it away. [SPEAKER_00]: It is a very weird situation.
[SPEAKER_00]: She calls her and says, I'm in love with David Gowski. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm a drummer in a band and I've had, you know, a beer and a half. [SPEAKER_00]: And you would think that Mrs. Kim similarly to what she ends up doing in Season 4 would have the fire department, every person's summer mat, um, the holder for the top on the party.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the cavalry's coming in and she does nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: She lets Lane figure her own way home. [SPEAKER_00]: but she's so shocking. [SPEAKER_00]: It is so amazing. [SPEAKER_01]: And she doesn't say anything to her about it, but Lane feels like she needs to repent for this just because her mom is not doing it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing that I think about in terms of this is that I don't know if she's like processing this because she not only finds out because she's drunk, but she finds out about the band too. [SPEAKER_01]: Like this is like a huge thing that's happening here. [SPEAKER_01]: Is it because Mrs. Kim loves to you so much?
[SPEAKER_01]: right well she says I'm in love with Dave for galski not young chew like Dave is my guy yeah we rock together mama I love when lanes says we rock I just like it's so fascinating to me that season three for lanes is running a dating scheme like it's so that she can date [SPEAKER_01]: and ultimately he's really likes, but her mom, she loves Dave.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what's so fascinating is when she finds out that maybe she has a crush on Dave, she sees Dave and tells him, like, I know. [SPEAKER_01]: This is fast. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not like a thing to lean of like, oh my gosh, you can't see this boy. [SPEAKER_01]: This boy has gone out of her life.
[SPEAKER_01]: She says, oh, Dave. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to warn you. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to hear about you. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's so fascinating to me that like when it comes back around, what's going through her mind here, we never really find out because Dave is still when that comes and rescues the situation.
[SPEAKER_01]: And ultimately, they can go to prom together, but they can't get married and Lane is being grounded. [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say, Lane does eventually get her punishment. [SPEAKER_00]: Her mom is freezing her out with a reward. [SPEAKER_00]: But also gets the reward of being able to go to the problem with David Gowski.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't talk about that at the moment. [SPEAKER_00]: And you think that maybe that will be a turning point for their relationship that she understands that maybe the reason Lane didn't tell her is because she feels like she can't tell her things like, okay, now this is [SPEAKER_00]: the third boy she's lied to me about.
[SPEAKER_00]: The first I would have approved up the second now that I do approve of her. [SPEAKER_00]: I've never been the rules like this before. [SPEAKER_00]: And to that, I really do think that there's a soft spot in Mrs. Kim's heart for David Gowski in the same way that there is for Dean when it comes to lower lie.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case, first case
[SPEAKER_01]: But like, she was just kind of, I don't, I would love to have a little spinoff of the Kims and have her inner dialogue. [SPEAKER_01]: I just need the narrative of what Mrs. Kim was thinking from the moment she got the phone call until Dave or Gowski showed up in a suit. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, what was what was happening?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because she was icing her out, which is like not good either. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, ultimately, she's letting Ling go to the prom. [SPEAKER_01]: She's letting her talk to Dave on the phone. [SPEAKER_01]: But she's punished. [SPEAKER_01]: because she was drinking as a teenager, like, totally makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put a shine for that. [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: But you would think that that would be the harshest punishment of all. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: He's ever gone. [SPEAKER_01]: You'd even think like, she can't even talk to Dave, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: But, I mean, not even Mrs. Kim can resist the charm of Dave Ragowski.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: She's like there being a doctor on the bed. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like maybe you'll rub off on her in some way like maybe you're charming beautiful nature and I don't know but like of all the circumstances. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like she handled that one quite well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's it's interesting because like I kind of, I mean, Dave did a lot better, but I kind of feel like when Dean, it's funny. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like a couple moments I can parallel this up against with Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_00]: In forgiveness and stuff when Dean comes to Roy's window and is tapping on the window.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like L'Orlah approaches it kind of with that baseball bat, cricket, energy, with Jess in a tale of a fire, but she ends up really softening to him because Dean appeals to her and is like, I promise nothing happened. [SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, Dave's better all around than Dean. [SPEAKER_00]: But Dave's approach to the situation is also a lot different.
[SPEAKER_00]: He shows up in a suit. [SPEAKER_00]: He is there to speak on the front door. [SPEAKER_00]: Come to the front door. [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas like Dean was there, you know, to talk to Roy and and was kind of trying to sidestep and avoid lure likes. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to [SPEAKER_00]: you know, make things worse than anywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we could parallel those two up against each other, but I do think that there's a soft spot in Mrs. Kim's heart for David Gowski. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's a soft spot and lore lies for Dean, you know. [SPEAKER_00]: They will always be kind of the pinnacle for their daughters. [SPEAKER_01]: I think.
[SPEAKER_00]: So interesting, oh my gosh, you're like, and it's kind of an assumption for me on Mrs. Kim's end because we don't really get that and of course that fades away for Laura Leibethdeen. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yes, yes, understandably so, but in comparing it to the party situation, [SPEAKER_01]: Lori is also kind of running a dating scheme in season three, you know, in a very different way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, she ends up with a new boy, but after the party, they go to get Lane's backpack and Laura, I learned about Lori's role in this and what is her decision, but to sing to her because she's her hero. [SPEAKER_01]: And, oh, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money, it's your money
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what makes Mrs. Cameron Lane to arc so beautiful and in the same way that like we're in the Royal Isle Crushing is because the openness is really just always there and for the most part there's some line but that's that'll be get crushed when they separate. [SPEAKER_00]: Before we move on from season three and into season four I want to talk about college preparations because I do feel like Mrs. Cameron Laura approached college preparations quite similarly shockingly.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like well she did let Marie take the lead. [SPEAKER_00]: But yes, but I've always made many ways for that. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Like I do think in many ways, these moms made collegiate decisions for their daughters before their daughters had a chance to express what they really wanted.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that this really comes out in a deep fried Korean Thanksgiving when Vory goes to kind of deviate away from the plan just by applying to Yale. [SPEAKER_00]: And I know that that has the [SPEAKER_00]: It's it's the undertone of Richard and Emily and the role they play in that and Laura I really wanted to keep that wall up between her and her parents and and also between them and Rory.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that you know, it's it is one of those things where it's like Harvard was that My dream or was that your dream and Mrs. Kim is definitely not reflective on that. [SPEAKER_00]: She's just decided that Lane is going to some day at Ventus College. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's not her dream, you know, like we, there's, there's no light parallel there, but as you're saying it, I think it would have been so interesting if Lane would have applied to a different college, like in gotten in or something and maybe not gone, because it's the party that pushes Lane into feeling very guilty and confidence around word, but like she's going to go forward with Mrs. Kim's plan because she feels so bad about that's one of her punishments to herself.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, oh sad. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they do they do have like this underlying tone of like who who did this come from with Mrs. Kim and Lane. [SPEAKER_01]: It's very overt came from this Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, before I lie, it honestly feels kind of the same of like you can't make choices like that for yourself when you're little.
[SPEAKER_01]: You famously three-year-olds don't know what Harvard is. [SPEAKER_01]: I could ask a three-year-old today. [SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I'm going to call her and ask her later. [SPEAKER_01]: Ask her. [SPEAKER_01]: She loves utopia too. [SPEAKER_01]: So perhaps she does know Harvard is she does.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that if you're parent those talking about it Like I think if Kayla and Michael were talking to some about Harvard. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, or they know They know what it was that the Georgia Bulldogs are there you go because every Saturday She's wearing her little Georgia children are uniform and she's been asking to wear it lately You wouldn't be for any other team but Harvard so exactly because what other teams are you giving her to did you give her the whole lineup?
[SPEAKER_01]: Did you give her all the colleges across the board to cheer for? [SPEAKER_01]: No, yeah, it didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't [SPEAKER_00]: And they evolve into a world where worry does really want to go to Harvard. [SPEAKER_00]: Worried does really love school and academics.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think also they evolve into a place where Lordly softens to the idea of Yale and Mrs. Kim is just full. [SPEAKER_00]: We can even talk about that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, full speed ahead on on seventh day Adventist college. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I just found the way that they approached college and school.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very fascinating fascinating because it's like it's similar until it's not of course, but but it was approached very similarly by the two of them The origins are very clear. [SPEAKER_01]: It's quite like their age discrepancies despite the principles that they have despite how they were raised They kind of made these decisions and their daughters didn't deviate it from them Didn't deviate from them whether through guilt or just that became her path to but you brought up like the end of a tale Prison fire when the realize orphans to you and like kind of helps where I made that decision [SPEAKER_01]: Like every time I think about that, I want to cry.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it makes me cry every time. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to think about it. [SPEAKER_01]: I know, I'm not going to think about it. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we won't think about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about the biggest parallel here, which we brought up earlier, is in the climber and the climber, and a house to not at home.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: This is really... That's another moment where it's like the parallel in the episode, but also parallel across time. [SPEAKER_01]: Of course, see you as if you will. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I think the strongest comparison is when Laura and Mrs. Kim hear from their daughters that the plan that they had for them is not what they want for themselves anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: And how they kind of handle it similarly. [SPEAKER_00]: Very similarly. [SPEAKER_01]: And like the outcome of it is also very similar. [SPEAKER_01]: Like it pushes them away to the place where they don't want them to be. [SPEAKER_01]: Of course they want them at home. [SPEAKER_01]: But by not approving of the direction they want to take their life, [SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, I think Lane is more in the right here than Rory is, like, ultimately in, like, where they're headed, like, Lane asking Mrs. Kim.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think she's asking too much of her. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I think that knowing, knowing Mrs. Kim and knowing her, it is too much for her. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that Lane is completely justified in what she's like, it's out in the open now, why not just ask for exactly what I want?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's not what Mrs. Kim wants. [SPEAKER_01]: So she has to leave. [SPEAKER_00]: So to catch you guys up, just in case anyone is unfamiliar with the two episodes we're talking about and the clamor and the clamor and the clamor is when Lane goes to CBGBs, she doesn't tell her mom, of course everything we just described earlier.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she doesn't get, get null by and as we discussed earlier, Mrs. Kim wakes up, Lane is not home, Laura like Halzer says she's at Lane's or she's at Yale and Lane eventually comes home and her mom has discovered. [SPEAKER_00]: the life that she's been hiding underneath the floorboards since she was six.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we've been building towards this the entire series. [SPEAKER_00]: We've all been kind of wondering when Mrs. if and when Mrs. Kim is going to find out that Lane has been living kind of this double life. [SPEAKER_00]: And so she is Hannah Montana in a lot of ways, that Lane. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that would have been so, I need to, would have loved to hand them on Tanda Parallel, but that was not, that was not an Amy's real house.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, probably not, but anyway, Mrs. Kim and Lane kind of have this moment and Lane comes to her being like, all right, like, cards are out on the table, and I'm ready, like, I've been thinking a lot of foul CDs are out on the table. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, really everything's on on the table.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And she says, you know, I just want to please you so badly, but I can't look at you. [SPEAKER_00]: Look at what happened last night. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not good. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want anything like this to happen ever again. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been thinking a lot about this, our situation, and I figured out a way to make everything better.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to go to 7th-day Adventist College anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to be able to play with my band. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to be a drummer. [SPEAKER_00]: I will happily go to community college, and I will happily live at home, and hear to your curfew, except on the nights [SPEAKER_00]: this way I can get what I want and I won't be lying to you or sneaking around this way we can both be happy and Mrs. Kim says children do not make the rules.
[SPEAKER_00]: You may move out and live like that somewhere else. [SPEAKER_00]: Ah, that's so hard. [SPEAKER_00]: When I watched Emily corrode a deliver this line she said you may move out like it takes her everything in her to say to her like you may leave and go live like that tomorrow. [SPEAKER_00]: But you will not live like that under my [SPEAKER_01]: I low key think that Emily Karada Karota is like giving one of the best performances in Gilmore girls.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like she doesn't believe we're just so excellent in the way that she tends to the relationship between Lane and Mrs. Cam. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just so excellent and like yeah it's so heartbreaking too because like we want that for Lane. [SPEAKER_01]: This is what we want for Lane. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but Mrs. Kim hasn't come around fully to it yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, Dave Forkowski's gone to soften the blow. [SPEAKER_01]: So every blow hurts now, you know, everything hurts. [SPEAKER_00]: So by the time we get to a house is on a home, which is the finale of season five, when Rory decides she's going to drop out of Yale. [SPEAKER_00]: And she sits her mom down outside of Westerns and says, I'm not going back to Yale next year.
[SPEAKER_00]: Her mom is like, I'm sorry, I didn't hear you. [SPEAKER_00]: Roy has made this decision similarly to Lane. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I've made the decision that like this is what I'm going to do. [SPEAKER_01]: They present it very similarly. [SPEAKER_01]: They do. [SPEAKER_01]: They've made this decision and this is, you will accept it just as so.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they are presenting this to their moms as if their moms are going to accept the fact that like I said before, the plans that they've laid out for them are not the plans they're going to follow. [SPEAKER_00]: They're deviating from the plan. [SPEAKER_00]: And that is where these two mothers converge.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the more likely essentially says to her, you're not coming back here to stars hollow and [SPEAKER_01]: No, you're not doing certain other hair, but it is really interesting that like I think that Lane more so than Rory was uncertain of her mom's response. [SPEAKER_01]: I think she expected her to reject it, but she went into, you can see that in her entire demeanor that she's so really blinded her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's, oh, that's really the knife to the heart. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I have to the teddy bear if you're on YouTube. [SPEAKER_01]: But with worry, I don't think that she expected any response from her mom, but like, okay, cool, let's go to Luke's first day that you're dropped out of Yale, we'll have drop out of Yale pancakes, you know, like maybe not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, she's always expected what's happened up until this point, which is that her mom just wants to understand her. [SPEAKER_00]: And her mom trusts her to make the right decision. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that Laura like as directly as Mrs. Kim does says like children do not make the rules you can move out and live like that somewhere else.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that is what happens. [SPEAKER_00]: You move out and live like that somewhere else and she does she moves into the Gilmore's and lean moves out and kind of cow chops until she moves in with the band. [SPEAKER_00]: And so these two women, these two young women. [SPEAKER_00]: like have these riffs with their moms not at the same time of course but like for the purposes of these two episodes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lane is always kind of the prequel to Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like the writers like testing out future Rory storylines by like kind of like seeing how Lane shakes out with it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And like it really is because like ultimately she has her B-plot companion.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that there's just like that level of like if it's happened to Rory it probably happened to Lane a few seasons ago. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Mrs. Kim and Laura lie, both dig their heels in. [SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim is not coming to lane. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, okay, if that's your choice, they're both heartbroken.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they're like, okay, you ought to learn the hard way. [SPEAKER_00]: Tough love, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that they do. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how long the rift between the two of us. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that lane and worry do learn the hard way in a lot of ways. [SPEAKER_00]: I think lane needed to fly the coop.
[SPEAKER_01]: She needed to be pushed out of the nest. [SPEAKER_01]: She learned the hard way in the sense that she wasn't going to be able to have that double life continuing in the way that it had previously, like she was going to have to choose one of the other. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And ultimately, she learned it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like she went about it the hard way. [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't the like maintaining her relationship with her mom and like everything she'd known. [SPEAKER_01]: But ultimately what she came from this was exactly what she needed. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that was so accurate. [SPEAKER_01]: Lane ended up wishing needed to be.
[SPEAKER_01]: Does Lane's storyline completely fall off and like justice for Lane, and there's so many things about her storyline that we would change. [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, but like I think in the immediate aftermath of where Lane ends up living with the band being able to explore Hepelian, that's where she needed to be.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she, yeah, it was a hard way to dive into it. [SPEAKER_01]: She was pushed out of the nest, but she flew for, if only a moment until the writers really waited down. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think with Roi, Roi learned the hard way that her mom was right. [SPEAKER_00]: That he was not the right way to have gone about this, but she had to.
[SPEAKER_00]: Roi learned the hard way that her mom was right. [SPEAKER_00]: Lane isn't learning that her mom was right. [SPEAKER_00]: Lane needed to go live like that somewhere else. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that was what her mom was trying to teach her. [SPEAKER_00]: I think her mom was hoping that she'd come home and follow her plan until she accepts that Lane's life is not going to be the life that she wanted for her.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what's interesting about that, about like kind of their separations, if you will, between the Kims and between the Gilmore girls, is that Mrs. Kim comes to her. [SPEAKER_01]: That Mrs. Kim is the one that's like this is done. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not Lane coming to her. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not Lane appealing to her.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's ultimately Mrs. Kim's arc at that point, that she has decided to move into that. [SPEAKER_00]: But at lower-rise kind of push from Mrs. Kim, she tells her I'm not going to be your go-between anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: Like she's like, hey, you're like some of Lane's Mail, she goes, you want to give her that mail, you're going to do it yourself.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not, like I officially resign. [SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder how long it would have taken the two of them to come together. [SPEAKER_00]: Had lower-line on. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it would have taken longer, but I think for ultimately she would have. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because she loves her daughter and I think that she knew she was too stubborn to come back.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think ultimately Mrs. Kim knew that Lane was where she needed to be. [SPEAKER_01]: even though it's not what she wanted for her. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think that that's like the, that's the difference in their arc is that ultimately she comes around to it. [SPEAKER_01]: She does have a freak out with Laura lie in.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's might be fights between the two of them. [SPEAKER_01]: I love them. [SPEAKER_01]: She goes over, Mrs. Kim does to the hip house. [SPEAKER_01]: Realizes she's living with boys, filled people ways, runs out, finds Laura lie at Lisa's wedding on the dance floor. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love that she barges into this wedding. [SPEAKER_00]: She was not invited to, but it's in the town square. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's in public. [SPEAKER_01]: It's in public. [SPEAKER_01]: She keeps her dance and if she wanted to, but more or less ultimately guides her to be like, those are girls.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those aren't girls. [SPEAKER_01]: Those are girls. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that she comes back to the house and she goes, you two are girls. [SPEAKER_01]: And she will have to. [SPEAKER_01]: And I just love where that gets to because it's not a matter of like coming back to her and being like, okay, you've done this for a long enough now you're going to come back and you're going to do exactly what I wanted from your life because she's not a kid anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: She isn't like the developmental science like she's still learning but she can make her own decisions in this regard. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm comparing that to worry saying I'm not a kid 19 like girl, please. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, there is another parallel moment in that scene to in the clamor in the clamor.
[SPEAKER_00]: When they have this conversation, Ms. Kim and Lane, she's, you know, asking her when she started her little, you know, life under the floorboards. [SPEAKER_00]: I started it when I was six, when you told me that the Kuhi monster was one of the seven deadly sins, gluttony. [SPEAKER_00]: She says, so I made you do this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that was giving all my attention. [SPEAKER_00]: Sarah, being like, oh, so I set one example for you. [SPEAKER_01]: And you're going to go off and do this. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're comparing then Mrs. Kim announcing that the cookie monster is one of the seven deadly sins to lower a lie, sleeping with Chris while he was with Sherry.
[SPEAKER_01]: These are the impetus. [SPEAKER_01]: These are the reasons for daughters of messed up. [SPEAKER_00]: Mother, yes, that's it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's canon, it's true. [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think that in addition to what I said earlier about like Laura Lye in forgiveness and stuff or at the end of worries, Dan's like really, really going in harder her daughter and not listening to her daughter and not hearing what her daughter has to say.
[SPEAKER_00]: Being the closest that she comes to kind of [SPEAKER_00]: Being like Mrs. Kim in her parenting tactics. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that this is the most exciting example in parallel of that That they both are like digging their heels in with their daughters and kind of trying to show some tough love in saying like listen This was not the plan.
[SPEAKER_00]: This was not the plan and I understand why Laura lies digging her heels in a little bit more because she's like I know this isn't what you want [SPEAKER_00]: I know this isn't what you want. [SPEAKER_00]: You're listening to this man who's just going to tell you that you don't have it. [SPEAKER_00]: Now all of a sudden you're going to drop out of school.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I understand Laura lies angered her daughter and why she's why she's feeling like we we have to scramble and resolve this because this isn't you. [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas with Mrs. Kim it's like this is your daughter. [SPEAKER_00]: And I know this is not what you want for her. [SPEAKER_00]: But like this is her and you have to accept.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think in this instance, and in taking you back a little bit to when she talked to Dean and like we broke that scene down. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, Laura, I said, I didn't raise you to be like this. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's more so true here, that like, I didn't raise you. [SPEAKER_01]: put that much stock in a man's opinion, at least I think.
[SPEAKER_01]: But in the same instance, applying that to lane leaving her mom's house of like, I didn't raise you to be like this and I think that's true. [SPEAKER_01]: She didn't raise her to be like this. [SPEAKER_01]: She thought she was raising a different version of her and now the version of her that she does see is all under the floorboards and [SPEAKER_01]: out on her bed, out in the open, though how she didn't know about that.
[SPEAKER_01]: How do you not know there's like a million hidden floorboards in your own house? [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Well for me, it was also like, this is really the first time you've ever gone into your daughter's room, I would have pegs. [SPEAKER_00]: I was expecting a room in checks.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, to be the kind of mom who room checked. [SPEAKER_00]: Was she trusting her? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, maybe, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: But on the topic of the house is not a home. [SPEAKER_00]: This is the same episode where Laine goes to her mom and says, you know, the band is splitting up.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've reconciled, they have a pretty good relationship, they have found a new normal between the two of them. [SPEAKER_00]: But Lane is now coming to her and saying, like, it didn't work. [SPEAKER_00]: I am ready to move back in. [SPEAKER_00]: I am ready to adhere to your rules and Mrs. Kim is the one that rejects her.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, you're not the daughter I raised. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I didn't raise you to be like this. [SPEAKER_01]: Adam, raise you to be like this. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that one's an interesting one, too. [SPEAKER_01]: Two kids give up. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, this doesn't remind me of when we were on Patreon and you were like, think about Mr. Cam.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember exactly what you said because like, he gave up. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's like, I think that that's another thing that we could like break down and talk about for five hours about whether or not true. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that that is like ultimately where Mrs. Kim and Lane get to, I do think that they have a good relationship.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that a lot of the choices that Mrs. Kim is making postseason four or like honestly, like at the end of season four with Lane are the, like I think it's good. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that from where she's come from to where she's going, she has the best. [SPEAKER_01]: art of a mother in the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I would also put Emily in the running there. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, of course, she doesn't count. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, she does it. [SPEAKER_01]: She's a Gilmore girl. [SPEAKER_01]: I just mean like in the background, I just feel like I honestly think that one of the if we're not accounting for the Gilmore girls, I think that Mrs. Kim has wanted the [SPEAKER_01]: Most beautiful arcs in the show.
[SPEAKER_01]: She does. [SPEAKER_00]: I think they they land in a really soft place. [SPEAKER_00]: I kind of didn't really go past season. [SPEAKER_00]: Like the end of season five in this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like they they drop them down in a really nice place. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and her mom and it's kind of ways to be good and six.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: It can it really does like bring us full circle, though. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it closes the loop at the end of season five. [SPEAKER_00]: and we have like a couple of different moments of conflict. [SPEAKER_00]: We have some moments between Laura and Mrs. Kim that are really lovely like the wedding and, yeah, you know, the baby shower in season 7.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mrs. Kim's mom and everything, but I just think when it comes to their parenting tactics aligning here, this is kind of where I don't want to say it completely ends, but these are the biggest moments for me. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is the real interaction. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: This is where the intersection ends.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like between their their parenting parallels their parenting situationships. [SPEAKER_01]: The fact that there are two daughters in kindergarten or whatever became friends. [SPEAKER_01]: And so, thus they were linked for life, the two of them. [SPEAKER_01]: One of them against their will, the other one, Laura Liesegoldner, she was one of Miss Kim, the like her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Miss Kim is a cat. [SPEAKER_01]: She's getting, that's what, that's what gets to close. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I was really, really surprised by how many similarities these two had in there because I was expecting to really compare their parenting styles and be like Mrs. Kim handled it this way, lowerly handled it this way, and like that's it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're just very different in their approaches, and I was like, oh, yeah, you actually did a little deeper there. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not so Sometimes I mean they're very different, but you know what I'm saying [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not always said at the beginning. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like ultimately these are two very, very different moms, and they go about parenting very, very differently.
[SPEAKER_01]: But when you stop and you watch this the way that we did to prepare for this, it's there. [SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully in this episode, we have illuminated such for you. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and if there's any that we forgot about or that you were like, oh my god, this made me think of this moment between the two of them, let us know.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll do a little comment on YouTube for sure because that's where we see most of your comments, but we're going to do a little may round up as we do at the end of the month. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you call in with your thoughts on this and any other parallels we may have missed, we'll play in on our episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can even read it. [SPEAKER_01]: If you were not up if you're opposed to a phone call. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_01]: Give us a little comment. [SPEAKER_01]: It's scary though. [SPEAKER_00]: You know sometimes I get it. [SPEAKER_00]: I get it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of pressure especially if it's going to be played I don't really understand absolutely We definitely read comments as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have a little like parallels post probably up on our Instagram right now when this episode airs You know comparing these two and some of the moments we had come in some last week. [SPEAKER_00]: We did Tuesday. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah [SPEAKER_00]: So if you have like a really spicy taker-a-thought call us right us, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: On a beep. [SPEAKER_00]: For you and a readjust. [SPEAKER_00]: If you want to comment, it's okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It's okay. [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, we have a lot of really fun episodes planned for May. [SPEAKER_00]: The next one that we're going to release is actually on Sunday. [SPEAKER_00]: It's Sunday, May 10th.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it is the 25th anniversary of Love Daisy's intributors. [SPEAKER_00]: which is so crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: It is crazy to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I know we just celebrated the 25th anniversary last fall of Gilmore Girls, but now we're kind of getting into that territory where we're celebrating the 25th anniversary milestone for a lot of different moments on the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: And here we are, we've arrived at the end of season 1. [SPEAKER_00]: 1000 yellow daysies is 25 years old on Sunday. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, when the 25th anniversary hit, we were kind of like, okay, when I was going to be the 25th anniversary for a long time. [SPEAKER_00]: Everything for seven years, you know, seven years, it's going to be the 25th anniversary.
[SPEAKER_00]: So lock in. [SPEAKER_00]: And to honor the 25th anniversary of love days, these intruders, we are going to air our Gilmore revisited episode from gosh. [SPEAKER_00]: Why did we do that? [SPEAKER_00]: 2022? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my gosh. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's been a long time.
[SPEAKER_01]: But [SPEAKER_01]: This month is daisies. [SPEAKER_01]: April showers bring May flowers and what May flowers are they daisies. [SPEAKER_01]: So we've got some we've got some daisy vibes coming your way. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, we have some really cool merge merge we have a really fun daisy drop coming your way.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to drop some points of sprinkle some daisies in your life. [SPEAKER_01]: Or there will be an explosion of daisies. [SPEAKER_01]: You know what, you're so right, it is an explosion of daisies. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there will be. [SPEAKER_01]: And more our summer gazebo is also very daisy-exploited.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's true. [SPEAKER_01]: You'll see her. [SPEAKER_01]: You'll see her, but like I'm really excited about this new daisy vibe. [SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: See, you'll see my. [SPEAKER_00]: But also speaking of May, talk to us about the May book club pick. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but keeping with the mother daughter theme I actually picked two books.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is supposed to be a where you read all fall a month because last month was reading a sexy And we read great big beautiful life by Emily Henry, so we're heading into where you read all follow, but I wanted to pick two books this month unfortunately [SPEAKER_01]: But it's because both of them have really strong mother-daughter relationships and strong maybe meaning strong and theme not always strong in connection.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first one for where you read I've followed we're gonna read a book that's actually from 2021. [SPEAKER_01]: It's called crying in H. Mart and it's by Michelle Zoner who is in the band Japanese breakfast if you've heard of that. [SPEAKER_01]: her memoir, Cryin H. Mark, is about her Korean American identity, her complex relationship with her mother, and her grief at her mother's death from cancer, using food as a central theme to her memories and hair to edge.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just really liked the idea of, again, like exploring different types of mother-daughter relationships, also diving into the Korean American aspect of that, then we see with Lane and her mother. [SPEAKER_01]: So I liked having that for our where you were off all of, but I wanted it [SPEAKER_01]: and so for reading a sexy we're actually going to a YA and we're going to a YA with one of the authors who like built me and that is Sarah Dussen.
[SPEAKER_01]: She is releasing a book. [SPEAKER_01]: It's actually coming out today. [SPEAKER_01]: It's called Change of Plans and I'm actually talking to her tomorrow on the podcast if you want to join in for that. [SPEAKER_01]: But this is a story of Finley who is very disconnected from her mother.
[SPEAKER_01]: She is raised mostly by her father and her mom comes in every so often and so she is graduating from high school and her mom is supposed to take her on the trip to New York She doesn't want to go. [SPEAKER_01]: She wants to go hang out with her boyfriend, of course, and she ends up having to go to the small town where her mother is from She meets all her aunts and all of her family that's there and so she's kind of trying to have a navigate that's very complicated relationship with her mom that she [SPEAKER_01]: basically doesn't know that kind of walked out on her when she was quite young.
[SPEAKER_01]: You get the reasoning behind that. [SPEAKER_01]: It's also a romance that's a good teen romance with a cutie guy in town, while she struggles with the after effects of being in a high school romance. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like two very different relationships with mother daughters, but also still very in keeping with a lot of themes from gummer girls But super excited customer is my interview with Sarah Deson, which was like my dream Honestly, you guys are crying afterwards because I was just so fantastic.
[SPEAKER_01]: I actually cried during it Oh luckily though, can I tell you my allergies kind of masked it a little bit? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm always wiping my eyes, but there were various times when I did cry based on what she was talking about because we talked about like she's a lot of very serious topics and her backlist But there were moments when I was like genuinely tearing up and I couldn't see because I was like I'm talking to Sarah doesn't [SPEAKER_01]: Because like there are so many full circle moments to like things that she was talking about where like it existed in my life and it was just it was honestly beautiful.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're excited to dive into those with the book club but also very excited for you guys to listen to Sarah Descent tomorrow. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited too. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But something we've been talking about since like the beginning of the podcast, as we've been watching Gilmour Girls through Patreon through Gilmour Evisited Through The We Watch Club, also just through topics that we've talked about, is the mom card.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because Lorelei brings it up and she plays it so specifically and vaguely, but it comes up in the most convenient of times from his Lorelei Gilmour. [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll have more to say on that in the next episode.
