[SPEAKER_00]: That's six, seven, eight summer. [SPEAKER_00]: It's time for a summer check-ins. [SPEAKER_00]: Summer, summer, summer, summer. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a little bit good to talk about. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmour to say with Terran Haley.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Terra. [SPEAKER_01]: This is Haley. [SPEAKER_01]: Hi Terra. [SPEAKER_00]: It's officially halfway through 2026, which is quite literally not computing to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not clocking to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, what do you mean we're happy through the year? [SPEAKER_01]: What?

[SPEAKER_01]: It's not clocking to me that we're standing on the second half of 2026, really. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: It feels like just yesterday we were down at the Spotify Studio recording the first episode of this year. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Which is weird, but yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: As it turns out, it is halfway through the year. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't know how that happened. [SPEAKER_01]: I guess, time passed. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess it's so rare. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's what it was. [SPEAKER_01]: We had to really get them to the nitty-gritty of it, but it really just flew by.

[SPEAKER_01]: They really know. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's July. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the first episode of July. [SPEAKER_00]: And we thought it would be really fun to do a little summer check in with you guys a little mid year check in because we love to do our go more to say wrap at the end of each year.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we figured at the end of the first half of the year could be fun to do a little summer check in on a personal level on a podcast level. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think so, I think that it's just, it's nice to have like a little reflection, see what's going on, see what we're looking forward to, I love having something to look forward to.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of why I like to like define my year with like a color or just like a feeling or a theme to kind of live inspired by because it just gives me something nice to look forward to. [SPEAKER_01]: I love having a little something, something something. [SPEAKER_01]: on the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Which we have a lot of things to look forward to for the podcast.

[SPEAKER_01]: You guys really have some exciting things happening soon. [SPEAKER_00]: We have a lot of things happening, which is crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Every year I'm like, how are we going to top last year or the year before whatever? [SPEAKER_00]: And then things happen and we're just like things happen.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: You'll have to wait and see. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't talk about them yet. [SPEAKER_00]: The things are happening. [SPEAKER_00]: Things are happening. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're really excited. [SPEAKER_00]: But we're here to talk about summer. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm really, really want to bask in summer this year, because fall is going to be a very busy time for both of us, but especially with the wedding coming up, I'm just like, I'm trying to really soak everything in.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not usually a summer girl. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we've talked about this. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like, I'm always waiting for fall, because summer can be really hot, especially summer in the city. [SPEAKER_00]: It's hit our mess, it can be really fun, or it can just be like blazingly hot and miserable.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm actually [SPEAKER_00]: I think this year for whatever reason in my heart, I'm a summer girl, and I'm excited about it. [SPEAKER_00]: As you all know, also I've talked about this before, August, September, October, like, my famous trio. [SPEAKER_00]: I think those are the three best months, the seasonal trifecta, if you will.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so as we're here in July, I'm just like, oh, the precursor, the preemble. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm ready. [SPEAKER_00]: It's full. [SPEAKER_01]: It's full Eve. [SPEAKER_01]: It's full Eve. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm very, very excited. [SPEAKER_00]: But on the subject of my wedding, I actually went to tell you a story that I meant to tell you yesterday, and I was like, oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, I forgot, because we made this appointment in October. [SPEAKER_00]: And as you know, on July 13th, I'm about to go see you in Florida. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, you know what, I might keep that appointment, but my mom also was like, I don't know if I can make it that day.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd been calling them the salon to see if I could change my appointment. [SPEAKER_00]: And I called them Monday, I called them Tuesday, and it would just keep bringing him ringing and like, they'd pick up and be like, we're sorry, it was like the automated we're sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: All of our agents are busy right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it was so weird because like any time I've called the song, which is only maybe twice, never happened to me. [SPEAKER_01]: Like it was always just like ring ring, hello. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I was like, damn, they're really hard to get in touch with. [SPEAKER_00]: They must just be like really busy.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm a work yesterday and towards the end of my call, they called me. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, oh, they must be calling to confirm my appointment. [SPEAKER_00]: Perfect. [SPEAKER_00]: I can ask them if I can change it. [SPEAKER_00]: And they were like, hey, um, so we have to cancel your appointment on July 13th.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, okay, that's okay because I actually had to change my movement anyway. [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, I was going to ask for it to be later in the month. [SPEAKER_01]: And they were like, well, the reason that we're calling is because we're closing our store. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what I thought you were about to say that they were closed.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to need you to come pick up your dress and your veil. [SPEAKER_00]: So it wasn't like super emergent. [SPEAKER_00]: They're closing on July 10th. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: My dress is there. [SPEAKER_00]: My veil is there. [SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't planning on this.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not just locking it behind the door. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't planning on getting my... [SPEAKER_00]: alterations done there. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank god because like obviously I work in the industry that I do, I have a lot of people at my disposal who I can ask to do these things and so I was planning on on having a friend do it but I was just like not expecting that and as we record this I'm walking into like the next 10 days or going to be kuku bananas because we're closing death becomes her.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm working at Titanique. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, it's just like a crazy next 10 days, and so I was like, when am I going to get there? [SPEAKER_00]: Because after that 10 days is up, I only have like another week to go get the dress, try it on, make sure everything is good, make sure it's the veil that I want.

[SPEAKER_00]: My mom wants to be there, of course, like, nance wants to be there. [SPEAKER_01]: That's like, so stressful, but also like, like, it's one of those things that you'll think about later in left, because I was like, as you were telling this, I was like, they didn't answer. [SPEAKER_01]: They closed.

[SPEAKER_00]: They close their trap. [SPEAKER_00]: They moved. [SPEAKER_00]: It's gone. [SPEAKER_00]: See, that has happened to some women and it breaks my heart for them because like this could have been catastrophic. [SPEAKER_00]: Luckily it is not. [SPEAKER_00]: Yet, as I record this, no, we won't even put that button in there.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's just waiting. [SPEAKER_01]: It just needs this mom to come pick a mom, you know? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: And thank God it's there. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that it arrived in April and we just said we were going to do the fitting in July because it was like, why would we do a fitting in April for a wedding?

[SPEAKER_00]: That's six months down the line. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So that was my little almost drama moment yesterday over my wedding. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like this could have been much worse, but everything's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: That's like the perfect amount of drama. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it almost was bad, but it's actually not.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's the exact amount of drama that you want to personally have. [SPEAKER_01]: Hearing other people's drama, I do appreciate, but when it's happening to me, no, no, no, I want to avoid it. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's actually, that's so summer, though, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: That's actually kind of what I'm feeling summer to be, is like, just new things exciting, almost drama, not real drama.

[SPEAKER_01]: But not a good drama in the fall. [SPEAKER_00]: Drama feels fall-coded. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's chill this summer. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's just send good vibes, chill. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll get the magician later. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, yeah, we'll talk about the magician. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, way later.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, what kind of summer are you having on that note? [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, a chill summer, a non-drama summer. [SPEAKER_01]: A non-drama summer, actually. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to have a drama summer in the sense that I want to. [SPEAKER_01]: There's lots of books, TV, movies that I want to consume.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because I feel like summer is the time to consume new things. [SPEAKER_01]: Fall, I will not listen to anything new, music, TV shows, books, anything, I don't want anything now. [SPEAKER_00]: I just don't have re-consume everything that I already want a hundred years in it's the time to re-watch your favorite comfort show of course because Gilmore Girls season.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: But like it's my time to re-watch. [SPEAKER_00]: You've got mail when Harry Metzalli in my comfort movies. [SPEAKER_00]: Eat my comfort food. [SPEAKER_01]: like it's all about comfort. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you. [SPEAKER_00]: Summer is like the time to try new things, even spring.

[SPEAKER_00]: Spring and summer are like, let's try new things. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like summer is the time for experiences. [SPEAKER_00]: You can go outside. [SPEAKER_01]: You can do a lot more when you're not to go outside in the fall, but you can't, of course. [SPEAKER_00]: It's different. [SPEAKER_00]: But I just think like in winter, everybody's like hunkering down and as we slowly walk towards that, people tend to like kind of sink into the familiar [SPEAKER_01]: That's quite interesting though because this is the first summer that I'm like kind of have like a reverse experience because being in Florida like today at 10 a.m. it was 90 degrees.

[SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of like the reverse for during the summer is when you want to stay inside. [SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm having that kind of like push and pull this summer. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to go outside. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to go to the pool. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to go on a walk.

[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a real feel of 98 degrees, and I just simply don't want to nickel a shade on the sidewalk, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I just like actually can't do that. [SPEAKER_01]: So I am kind of having like a little bit of a verse where I'm looking forward to fall to getting out of the house.

[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that's so funny. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm having a no time. [SPEAKER_00]: So fair for the climate you live in. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I'm like having that kind of like reverse experience where [SPEAKER_01]: I'm anticipating fall where I can like go on a walk outside again, because simply can't do it right now.

[SPEAKER_01]: But the summer that I want to have is very inspired by Gilmore Girls. [SPEAKER_01]: It was actually not originally inspired by Gilmore Girls, but I kind of got to this place. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to have a no cell phone summer. [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And I, because like it has like a couple of elements to it, but I think that so much of what we do for work, I really do need to be on my phone. [SPEAKER_01]: Like there's just no way around it. [SPEAKER_01]: I have to check in with things on our socials and things that like apps that only exist on my phone that I can't get online that I have to look at on my phone.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I have to be on my phone for work. [SPEAKER_01]: And outside of that, I'm going to try really hard not to bring my phone places. [SPEAKER_01]: Like if I'm with people, I won't bring my phone because there's no reason to have it. [SPEAKER_01]: I have my cute little digital camera that I can bring.

[SPEAKER_01]: But if I'm with people, I'm going to try not to bring my phone with me. [SPEAKER_01]: That like if someone needs to contact me, [SPEAKER_01]: You know, they can, I, I'm usually with the people and if the person who I need to contact outside of that is usually you Yep, that's it. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like if I'm going to dinner like I don't need to work during dinner So I'm just gonna not bring it because I'm like with my family with people who would normally contact me [SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm going to, like, less phone, I'm also going to be really intentional about breaking my phone during non-work hours, so I'm not using it, because there's, like, no reason for me to, so that I can, like, write more, read more.

[SPEAKER_01]: Just spend more time with my family and not be as connected. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm also going to try and encourage them to do that, because it's quite difficult to have a no cell phone summer and not bring your phone places, then go to dinner with people and all of them have their phones. [SPEAKER_01]: We're one of the reasons that you're sitting there by yourself eating the dinner.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like trying to engage people who are on their phone. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I'm going to try to encourage it in certain ways, especially because we have like little kids in our life who don't have phones and we're like, hey, you can't have screen time mean while I'm going on my phone. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so like trying to encourage that and just like be present being the moment because I find myself like being like, oh, I could do this thing. [SPEAKER_01]: I could write. [SPEAKER_01]: I could journal, but it's like, oh, I am a phone. [SPEAKER_01]: Just going to it's going to call on my phone.

[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I don't want to do that. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like that. [SPEAKER_01]: I even said that to myself this morning as I picked up my phone and said I'm my journal. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, no, no, no, we're going to start journaling today. [SPEAKER_01]: We don't get to unbreak right now.

[SPEAKER_01]: So sorry. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who you think is in charge. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so tempting. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so tempting. [SPEAKER_00]: But I love that. [SPEAKER_00]: No cell phone summer. [SPEAKER_00]: No cell phone summer. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's also going to be corresponding because I knew we usually like a color.

[SPEAKER_01]: Some sort of theme to that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's going to be a sprinkle summer. [SPEAKER_01]: If it can have sprinkles on it, I'm gonna put sprinkles on it and it needs to have sprinkles on it But there's not sprinkles available. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna bring my own sprinkles. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, wow.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like some sprinkles in your purse Just like why not? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have a sprinkles on her because I was thinking about it That's like the best use of your free well putting sprinkles in your purse and putting sprinkles on something which felt very like lower like go more at Luke's diner to me that like She grew with the whipped cream.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, when we're not using season six [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, exactly put sprinkles on it from her own. [SPEAKER_01]: Luke says no, she's like, it's okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I've got my own Totally see that happening It's kind of like a little bit of like a lower leg ill more summer. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's also very whimsical.

[SPEAKER_01]: Whimsical. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's very good. [SPEAKER_00]: It's called a put sprinkles on everything [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, and it's also in part because I fell in love with this one ice cream cone that's actually in our the pictures that I took with the whimsy collection it's a chocolate peanut butter oat milk ice cream with extra rainbow sprinkles on it wow [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, honestly, my favorite meal at the moment, anytime we even like kind of drive near that ice cream shop, Kelly's, we have to go because I'm obsessed with it and that kind of inspired the sprinkle element of it because I was like, I actually think everything would be better with sprinkles on it.

[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, having a no cell phone sprinkles on her. [SPEAKER_00]: Wow, I love that. [SPEAKER_01]: That's very far so much. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to do that for, I want to make that like a theme, like a campaign on the podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like a summer. [SPEAKER_00]: No cell phone summer.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: We should. [SPEAKER_00]: Dean's style, no cell phone summer. [SPEAKER_01]: And like, I think that's sometimes, I was definitely one of these people. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I'm not addicted to my phone. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just not. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I, that could have been me.

[SPEAKER_01]: But when I break my phone and I like go to click on the app and I can't and the option is go upstairs to my room to unbreak my phone to go on social media. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm not going to do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But if I was sitting there and I went to a click on social, like any social media app, I would not be prevented by just clicking on it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like I would not have the self-control. [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's just like so habitual at that point. [SPEAKER_00]: It is, it's very habitual. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: I think social media addiction is like a hot topic, especially now. [SPEAKER_00]: It's been a hot topic for the last few years, but I do think that it's just become habitual.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's less about like, oh my god, I'm addicted to it. [SPEAKER_00]: I need it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's more that it's just become a habit and it's become our phones and become a fixture in our everyday lives. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're all starting to, I think, collectively, as a society, be like, wait a minute.

[SPEAKER_01]: What are you doing? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing it. [SPEAKER_01]: But let's change just a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: But really, my brick has been so helpful. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you just look up a brick, like to block all your apps. [SPEAKER_01]: If you look that up anywhere, it's not sponsored.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course. [SPEAKER_00]: But if you just tap it, if you haven't, you can also open some or there's a part of me that wants to be like, back. [SPEAKER_01]: Hello. [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, but I just think it's so easy just to have it press it press your click your phone to it Lock your phone and slice them like it's been like it'll show you how long you've been locked out of your phone and I've had like 17 hours this week I'm like that's so nice [SPEAKER_01]: And you can do like particular apps, like I have like a no socials setting where I just tap my phone to it and it blocks all my socials.

[SPEAKER_01]: Which is nice. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you like do need to take your phone out with you because sometimes you need your phone. [SPEAKER_01]: You can just break all your socials out of your phone. [SPEAKER_01]: So when you go out, you're not scrolling. [SPEAKER_01]: You just someone needs to contact you, you can.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like having a flip phone, but when you get back home, it doesn't have to be. [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen a lot of people hang their phone up. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I love that. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to make it so they're in line. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's really fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: But honestly, I haven't sent anything to bread about this. [SPEAKER_00]: But there's a part of me that has wanted to install the online in our apartment because like, there are times when I will leave my phone here in my bedroom because I don't want to be on it. [SPEAKER_00]: If I have the TV on, if I'm doing dishes, if I'm cleaning the apartment, if I'm in the shower, like, I don't have my phone.

[SPEAKER_00]: But there are times when I'll text Brett and I'll respond to him about something, and then I'll put my phone down, I'll go take a shower, I'll go do the dishes, I'll go do something. [SPEAKER_00]: And he starts calling me because he needs me to answer something, he's picking up groceries, something.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he is always like, where do you go? [SPEAKER_01]: You send me a text and then you go somewhere. [SPEAKER_01]: And then I, you threw your phone away. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, and it's like, well, there's almost a part of me now when I text him that is like, oh, is he gonna need me for something I should have my phone with me And it's like if I had a landline that actually wouldn't matter because you could just call the landline.

[SPEAKER_01]: I know the only problem with having a landline though is that spam calls just roll through [SPEAKER_00]: Fair, that's what we say. [SPEAKER_01]: I have one at my, like, my aunt's house and it'll just ring sometimes it's just a spam call and it's like, it's like, sometimes I'm like, wait, what does that look nice same for us because my parents don't have a landline and they'll get, you know, they'll get spam calls.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think for me though, it would be nice to have because I don't keep my phone on like full volume. [SPEAKER_00]: I tend to keep it on silent. [SPEAKER_00]: Who has a phone on the volume? [SPEAKER_00]: many more. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, anytime I watch a show now, and their phone starts ringing, I'm like, in an activism.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is not right. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, they're going to watch this 20 years from now and be like, oh my gosh, no way, no one had their phone off. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's normal of a lot of people. [SPEAKER_00]: And so if someone calls me, what if I'm taking a nap, what if Brut's taking a nap?

[SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to be able to dial the land line and be like, hey, wake up. [SPEAKER_00]: I need you. [SPEAKER_01]: I also low-key love that because you can't, you can't access me, you know? [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, yeah, but there are times when I'm just like, what if I really need to access you?

[SPEAKER_00]: If I really need. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if you really need it, but I think sometimes because we have such access to people, we think we need them, but it's like, okay, let's make a decision on our own. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course. [SPEAKER_01]: And like, if you, if I didn't get to weigh in, because I wasn't available, that's me, that's on me.

[SPEAKER_00]: True, that's true. [SPEAKER_00]: Very fair, but all of that is to say I've considered being like, do I get a landline? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I'd use my phone as much if I had my landline. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_01]: I also love that like no cell phones for lukes meant calling people because it was disruptive.

[SPEAKER_01]: But for us now, it's like no cell phones meaning like I'm not going to sit here in scroll. [SPEAKER_01]: Because that's what it became in the revival. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone was on their computer because they about the way they didn't even know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 10 years ago. [SPEAKER_01]: even know, I don't even know why they couldn't have cell phones, but it really was just because they were ringing.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like it's evolved from the Luke of it all of his insistence that your phone not ringing, his diner that you not talk on your phone and his diner, to like now, let's put our phones away. [SPEAKER_01]: So we do talk, so we do talk to each other. [SPEAKER_00]: Totally. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that's great. [SPEAKER_00]: No cell phone summer. [SPEAKER_01]: No cell phone summer. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: My summer is not really deviating too far from what my year is, which I said that I was going to have like a vanilla year and I'm going to have vanilla girl summer.

[SPEAKER_00]: You have a sprinkles on it. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe maybe I'll put sprinkles on a vanilla with sprinkles. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love vanilla with sprinkles. [SPEAKER_00]: A vanilla chocolate swirl ice cream cone like a soft syrup. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like a soft syrup. [SPEAKER_01]: That's actually quite surprising.

[SPEAKER_01]: Why was there not on an ice cream truck in Star's Hollow? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, that's what Taylor wanted. [SPEAKER_00]: You might not be so right with a bell. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I just imagined Kirk with like the, do you remember that one time we were recording the rewatch club in the ice cream truck came by up side during a serious scene?

[SPEAKER_01]: And so the instrumental of Deer Ear's Hang low was playing a slower life was coming home from [SPEAKER_00]: But the other thing that I was actually telling you before we hopped on that I got my nails down the other day. [SPEAKER_01]: I got my nails done. [SPEAKER_00]: And I wanted to kind of like- They are non-blur, they are like this creamy pinkish white which is like so me.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do this often but I wanted them to be more like a buttercream. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's a thing like this is a vanilla summer but more of like a French vanilla summer like I wanted to have a little like hint of yellow in there. [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, okay, a little buttercream, a little- Wait, a little fun.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's this place in Florida, it's like just outside of Abcock called Cake Bake, and it's like, you see me there, it's the place you have. [SPEAKER_01]: I have, there's a little unicorn that they sell their their names buttercream. [SPEAKER_00]: Really at cake bake. [SPEAKER_00]: Fine.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's so fun. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think we'll have to go. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a vanilla cake and you can get sprinkle or you can get glitter on it. [SPEAKER_00]: So fun. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that you like that. [SPEAKER_01]: I think we can align your summer when you come down here to visit.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just didn't excited to keep that trend going. [SPEAKER_00]: This is probably the first year that my summer has matched my year, because usually I have a theme for the year and then I like, I'll do like strawberry girl summer or something that is more summer targeted, you know, but I just am going to keep these good vibes going.

[SPEAKER_01]: These good vanilla vibes going. [SPEAKER_01]: I just see you as like a little vanilla ice cream cone. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sprinkles optional sprinkles optional. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's both really like honestly aligned with both of our years because like pink just feels like an extension of sprinkles.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: Like it falls into the whimsy vibe. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_01]: But I really think that no cell phone summer really should be all of our summers, all of our goals here. [SPEAKER_00]: I agree. [SPEAKER_01]: It is hard though because you do need your cell phone to listen to podcasts.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well that's the thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Is that like, you know, I think that within reason we have to recognize that it is [SPEAKER_00]: the podcast or like, you know, just some of the pages that bring us joy and and or some of the things that we consume that bring us joy, we will need our cell phones.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not gonna, it's not like I'm disconnecting because like I do have my favorite creators and my favorite things to do on my phone, like audio book in needlepoint, one of my favorite things to do. [SPEAKER_01]: Am I technically on my phone? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but am I listening to a book?

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I do that with same thing with podcasts or like YouTube accounts that I love. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I love Kenzie Elizabeth's vlogs. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Kenzie that I'll like watch those in the background and I need a point or like while I'm doing another craft. [SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like that feels disconnected a little bit because I'm like doing my like solo hobbies.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not scrolling, but it feels a lot slower. [SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like it's it's it's different for everyone, but no cell phone summer mostly just means I'm not going to scroll [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no scroll summer. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: No scroll summer. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'd love to hear about some of the things you're excited to do this summer.

[SPEAKER_00]: Watch, read, etc. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, one of the things I'm most excited about, there's actually two book-related things. [SPEAKER_01]: One of them is there's a book by T. Williams. [SPEAKER_01]: And I kind of like want to spontaneously start a segment live here on the podcast where like I try to convince you to read a book.

[SPEAKER_01]: um based on the synopsis but there's a book called The Miss Connection by T.O. [SPEAKER_01]: Williams. [SPEAKER_01]: It came out in June but I'm so excited to read it. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's one of those books that I like have to sit down and read over a weekend like I like once I sit down I'm gonna read the whole thing.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because the concept is that she like works for like a global company. [SPEAKER_01]: She's on a flight to I believe Paris. [SPEAKER_01]: and she is a really great connection with the guy next to her. [SPEAKER_01]: She knows that he works for her company, but she doesn't get his name. [SPEAKER_01]: So she emails HR to find out who he was, but instead of just emailing the one person, she accidentally emails the entire company.

[SPEAKER_01]: to find him and my nightmare. [SPEAKER_01]: Like nightmare, but also like need to know more. [SPEAKER_01]: And so like I'm so excited to read that one. [SPEAKER_01]: And I remember when she talked about it, I like gasped, like jaw on the floor is like, oh, my nightmare, your drama, not my drama, which I'm supposed to consume.

[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I'm very excited to read that, but you know that I'm going to Mexico later this month. [SPEAKER_01]: You saw my plan is to read, while I'm there, only books set in Mexico, written by Mexican authors. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, because I think that that would be like just like a little fun escape with very particular fiction.

[SPEAKER_01]: So right now I'm on the hunt for like kind of like the perfect book because I found like some speculative fiction that I think I want to find a romance of course. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm on the hunt for that particular type of book. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you have a recommendation out there send me a message because I definitely definitely could use some recommendations.

[SPEAKER_00]: What about any like movies or anything? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh, do you know what this is? [SPEAKER_01]: It's actually the summer of Tom Holland. [SPEAKER_00]: It is, oh my god, he's in Daya. [SPEAKER_01]: He's in Daya. [SPEAKER_01]: Did you see his in Daya where a t-shirt? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, about a $35 t-shirt.

[SPEAKER_00]: She's such an icon. [SPEAKER_00]: Such an icon, such an icon. [SPEAKER_00]: She says something to the effect of like fashion doesn't have to be expensive. [SPEAKER_01]: You can just put a t-shirt with heels, this literally. [SPEAKER_01]: Why am I dressing up at all? [SPEAKER_00]: But there was also this image of the two of them dressed like he was in this maroon suit.

[SPEAKER_00]: And she's in like this spider web dress. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, are you kidding me? [SPEAKER_01]: Are you kidding me? [SPEAKER_01]: Because Spider-Man's coming out brand new day, which I keep accidentally calling brand new home. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it is a brand new home for him, but brand new day and then the Odyssey, too.

[SPEAKER_01]: Brett the Odyssey is also coming out. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, also. [SPEAKER_00]: Brett theill is so excited about the Odyssey. [SPEAKER_00]: It's his favorite epic. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like he is, he has been waiting for this. [SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like the summer kind of needs several types of movies because like Toy Story came out which I'm really excited because that's going to be summer my niece her first movie in theaters So we're going to go like a nine a.m. showing some really excited for that but spider man which feels like a huge like summer blockbuster the Odyssey which feels like an epic [SPEAKER_01]: But I also feel like those are like three major movies, but we also need a little independent movie in there too.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And you guys know that we love our friends over at 824. [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about them before. [SPEAKER_00]: They produced some really good stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of Zendaya, the drama. [SPEAKER_01]: Talk about a twisty movie. [SPEAKER_01]: I know.

[SPEAKER_00]: That one has a lot of twists and turns. [SPEAKER_00]: But A24 is also coming out with this film called The Invite, and they have a stacked cast in that one. [SPEAKER_00]: It's Seth Rogan, Olivia Wilde, who also directed it, Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton. [SPEAKER_01]: Penelope Cruz is just, I know, she's so beautiful.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the synopsis is Joe and Angela's marriage is on thin ice. [SPEAKER_00]: When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places, have they reignited the spark or lit the match that [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just like, I watched the trailer for this and I was like, oh my god, the trailer is truly excellent.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's one of the best things that A24 does is it's to create this like very enticing tease of a story. [SPEAKER_01]: I also love that Olivia Wilde directed. [SPEAKER_01]: We love a lady at the helm. [SPEAKER_01]: We do, but also co-written by Rashida Jones. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it was co-written by the two of them.

[SPEAKER_00]: The screenplay was by Wilma Cormic and Rashida Jones, but they adapted it from this film sentimental. [SPEAKER_00]: And I believe that was all in Spanish. [SPEAKER_00]: So, um, very, very intrigued. [SPEAKER_00]: I almost like to watch the invite and then also watch, like what it was adapted from with sentimental.

[SPEAKER_00]: But what I back to will be a while for a second, I think it's really impressive because she shot this in [SPEAKER_00]: like all of the scenes consecutively in on 35 millimeter. [SPEAKER_00]: And I just find that to be really impressive as as an aspiring filmmaker as someone who, I mean like when we shot our 30-minute pilot, it took us not even, it was like 22 minutes, it took us five full days of filming.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the fact that they were able to accomplish this in 21 days, I just think is very impressive. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it also speaks to the actors themselves, because like Ed Norton, Dream, Seth Rogan, Penelope Cruz, and Olivia Wilde, like all together, I feel like that just speaks to like the talent of all of them.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure, to achieve that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's so difficult to direct a movie that you're in and have it really end up emotionally compelling. [SPEAKER_01]: So like Kudos to her for that. [SPEAKER_00]: A 24 also shared with us that the film leans into the nuances of relationships, the push and the pull between security and excitement, honesty and self-preservation, fantasy and reality, but does so with kind of a wink.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like that's very Gilmore girls, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's all about the nuances of family relationships, friendships, etc. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm intrigued. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm intrigued to see it. [SPEAKER_01]: And all with like a very sharp, [SPEAKER_01]: witty edge to it, which is like kind of what this is balancing, which I could totally agree.

[SPEAKER_01]: It really is like the drama with the invite of comedy blending those two together with the invite. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, excited to see it. [SPEAKER_00]: So the invite will be in select theaters on June 26th and nationwide July 10th. [SPEAKER_00]: If you want to check it out. [SPEAKER_01]: But summer really is just like that time to just consume so many new things and find all your new favorites, see blockbusters, just there's just so much new stuff happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: But another movie that I watched the other day that I have been excited about watching, I'm so glad that I sat down just to like, watch it by myself because as always, I'm always watching the rom-coms, the new, the old voicemails for Isabelle. [SPEAKER_01]: Wait, I'm so curious about that movie.

[SPEAKER_01]: I like this movie. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I thought I would love it. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that you would really like it. [SPEAKER_00]: It is one of the first rom-coms in a while that I've watched. [SPEAKER_00]: That made me go like, oh, this was really sweet. [SPEAKER_00]: And didn't feel like super forced, you know?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It centers around Zoe Deutsch, who plays a girl who's like grew up with her sister. [SPEAKER_00]: She was her best friend, but her sister was like constantly diagnosed with chronic illness, specifically cancer. [SPEAKER_00]: and then ends up getting cystic fibrosis. [SPEAKER_00]: This is all in the preview, by the way.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, I'm giving any people away. [SPEAKER_00]: No, but her sister unfortunately passes away and she's having a really difficult times like moving through her grief. [SPEAKER_00]: So she starts leaving her sister voicemails and that number had been passed along to the work phone of this guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so he keeps getting these phone calls and he is listening to her messages and falling in love with her. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love it because what it does is like it blends the nostalgia of a trope like from you've got mail where it's like, you know, they he ends up sitting next to her on this bench that he hears about in her voicemail and they end up becoming a couple, but the whole question mark over everything is like, is he gonna tell her that she knew who she was fell in love with her essentially before he even met her.

[SPEAKER_00]: and, you know, kind of already knew about her sister and everything that had happened via her voice mails. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's giving like the Tom Hanks to actually make a reference to Tom Hanks and Mac Ryan in the course. [SPEAKER_00]: The movie, it's just like, you know, there's a scene where he's running through the streets and it's giving very, very, very much Sally.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I was just like, oh my gosh, this is so cute. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a very fun modern take on like some of the rom-com tropes that you know and love. [SPEAKER_00]: And I just think that they have, I think they do so so deliciously. [SPEAKER_00]: But what caught my attention for this film is in the promo.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, like, it's this guy. [SPEAKER_00]: And I believe that this guy was in you on Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: He was in one of the scenes for you, but she's on a date with him. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the promo that you see when you catch it on Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like you're so beautiful, you're like an SF6.5, Kansas 10, and if any of you were familiar, I've been writing a series which I'm now turning into a rom-comer at least trying to call Minnesota 10, and it's about two girls who are told in a bar that they're New York city's sixes, but Minnesota 10, so they decide to move to a small town in Minnesota to find love.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, like, I can't tell you how many people texted me. [SPEAKER_00]: The one that I saw, they were like, I was like, oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_00]: Luckily, that's not the premise of the film. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just like a very funny line. [SPEAKER_00]: But also, made me go, well, it's out there.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's out there. [SPEAKER_00]: It's out there. [SPEAKER_00]: People are thinking it. [SPEAKER_00]: So that is something that I'm also working on this summer is turning Minnesota's hand into a rom-com. [SPEAKER_01]: See, that's part of New Self on Summer is like getting back into your writing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, which is so important because I can't tell you, [SPEAKER_00]: How like blocked off I feel sometimes when I'm like too invested in my phone and I'm not invested enough in like the ideas inside my head, you know, I need to go like what I feel my most creative when I'm like, oh, sometimes sitting down like at a coffee shop or like for me, it's it's really walking around going on walks.

[SPEAKER_00]: having conversations with people. [SPEAKER_00]: But my friend Christina and I have been talking about it a lot because she was in my pilot back in 2019. [SPEAKER_00]: And so she approached me and was like, I really want to write a rom-com together. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to like brainstorm on one.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I've just taken her along for the ride with me, which has been great to have an accountability partner because I think that's also really important. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, to have someone to kind of like bounce ideas off of and and chat with and just talk through like [SPEAKER_00]: some of the things you have that feel have baked it's like what we do where I'm like hey I have an idea it's have baked like let's fully bake it together.

[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's bake it. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's bake it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's put in the dog and cook it. [SPEAKER_01]: Excellent, everyone's. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I also feel and I know a lot of people when they're writing are doing something creative they'll avoid the medium that they're being invested in like if you're writing a TV show you might all watch TV if you're writing a book you might not read.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I like to consume those things because I feel like I get so emotionally overwhelmed by TV shows, movies, books that I love, that like I want to imbue that feeling into what I'm writing, I want to write something that has made me feel like this other thing. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like I really do like to watch.

[SPEAKER_01]: like TV when I'm writing or read a book because like it puts me into that headspace of like how I want someone to walk away feeling how I feel now. [SPEAKER_01]: Totally. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, maize will it makes me feel that way? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think the mind of something's as maize will make me feel very creative because it makes me really excited about storytelling.

[SPEAKER_01]: The same way with like, [SPEAKER_01]: in like a very different way it was like off campus like that was like I tried to talk to campus because that was like emotional but fun and flirty and cute and I just had such a good time with it equally there is another Amazon Prime series it's an adaptation coming out it's not coming out till September.

[SPEAKER_01]: but it's the love hypothesis by Ali Hazewood. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes. [SPEAKER_01]: And Lily Rinehart, like truly, I think this one is going to be in my song. [SPEAKER_01]: Because I just really listen to the audiobook because the promo images from Love Hypothesis came out recently and I was like beside myself.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I had to reread it and it's just like so much fun. [SPEAKER_01]: But like also with this bent of like the downfalls of being a woman in STEM and in academia. [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm so excited for it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be fun, flirty hot. [SPEAKER_01]: Can't wait. [SPEAKER_01]: Can't wait.

[SPEAKER_01]: Science. [SPEAKER_01]: Who does that? [SPEAKER_01]: Some science in September. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really excited for that. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like a little bit like a the end of summer and of summer madness vibes. [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to include that one because like I just know I'm going to watch it.

[SPEAKER_01]: and just be excited. [SPEAKER_00]: Totally. [SPEAKER_00]: I also, I started to watch this the other day, but then I got a little bit of a migraine. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I want to enjoy myself while I watch this, but I am going to watch people we meet on vacation. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm, Tara, the way you would love this story so much.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I already did because it's like a big, it starts with like a big win-herium at Sally Parallel. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Like the two of them will retrip. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was like, oh my god, but after that, I was like, I'm starting to feel in well. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to associate feeling in well with this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to pause. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I want to like have a night with it. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe actually Brats going to a premiere tonight. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'll launch it tonight. [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be your premiere. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like six months late.

[SPEAKER_01]: Perfect mid-year check-in. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Perfect mid-year check-in. [SPEAKER_00]: I just think you would love that. [SPEAKER_01]: I think you would love the story. [SPEAKER_01]: I think you would also love the book. [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited. [SPEAKER_01]: Tara's a little bit in her, I'm hand era at the moment, which we winked.

[SPEAKER_01]: Which we love, we love love love. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I want to get back into rereading those books. [SPEAKER_01]: I just say no. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of waiting for fault. [SPEAKER_01]: They are such summer books. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Being an m-hand summer is like so ideal.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I've read them and so I kind of want to like save them for fall and like I save for them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, [SPEAKER_00]: I told you guys that I read booklovers a couple months ago now. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it was in like March April and I loved it. [SPEAKER_00]: She loved it so much like so so good.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because the other my first Emily Henry book was Happy Place and I really enjoyed it like great book. [SPEAKER_00]: But booklovers was on another level. [SPEAKER_01]: I do think that's her best book like from a craft perspective, the structure of that story, the payoff, the relationships, [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, ideal and I love the name Nora, and I love that it's a nod to Nora Afron.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, because I'm like Henry grew up on Nora Afron and get more role So I kind of gal. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I love love love. [SPEAKER_00]: But speaking of Brett doing a little premiere tonight He's been we're supposed to be left right. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes, we were yeah, yeah, yeah, we were watching both like I don't [SPEAKER_00]: Um, he has been doing a lot of premieres this week, one of which I wanted to go to so bad on Tuesday but I just like couldn't pull myself together and that was for L, Billy Glyff on series.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, love love love. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh if I had had a little pink dress, I totally would have gone. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that you were like, Kiko, don't have pink. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, but I don't have an outfit. [SPEAKER_01]: And also like we hold this accordingly. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know when we'd be done.

[SPEAKER_00]: I like that was actually the day. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I ended up watching [SPEAKER_01]: We're trying different times but different times but it would have kicked you out if you didn't were pink. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true. [SPEAKER_00]: They would have been like, who's this girl? [SPEAKER_01]: But I am excited to see it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I do want to round out my like summer excitement with one book that I feel like I'll probably be back again on the podcast, which is Susan Lee is coming out with a new book called See With The Sutton Set. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's a scroll who she's kind of having just like that experience that I think thought a lot of people do where they she doesn't really know what she wants to do with her life.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like she's older like she's like I think she I can't remember she's in her 20s or 30s but Gia is her name and it's just one of those things that she like never figured out what her thing was and she keeps bouncing between jobs and her family sees her is really unreliable and so to kind of like after losing this one particular job she doesn't know what to do [SPEAKER_01]: retirement home like her retirement community.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, where is it? [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's in Palm Springs in California. [SPEAKER_01]: Is that right? [SPEAKER_01]: It's Palm Springs in California. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I always get Palm Beach Confused. [SPEAKER_01]: And so she goes and lives with her grandmother and their community and she starts becoming like a community organizer for all of these old people who become very invested in her love life because as it turns out the person who signed her [SPEAKER_01]: What is it like when you get fired?

[SPEAKER_01]: There's like a paper that people signed slip. [SPEAKER_01]: Kind yeah like it's kind of just like the form indicating she's been like go from the company. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah it was signed by the grandson of the man who lives across the street from her grandmother who she also had a one night stand with the night before she was fired.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh no, yes, but it's got this relationship with her grandmother who she calls Mimi that's just like this beautiful sort of reconnection But she's always been very close with her her family's never really understood her and it kind of feels like this vibe of like what if Laura I had had someone in her life You know like a tricks who wasn't tricks who like got her who made her feel seen and like helped her like build herself up from that perspective It's just so good [SPEAKER_01]: and I loved it so much.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's quite hot. [SPEAKER_01]: It's in the desert, but it's also quite hot in other ways as well. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Come on, hot. [SPEAKER_01]: But Susan Lee just writes such good characters that I feel like not just the main love interests, but the people around them, like the older people in this community, just like this small quirky star's hollow vibe, we're just like, everyone is 60 plus.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's so cute. [SPEAKER_01]: It's called, see you at the sunset because the community is called the sunset fun. [SPEAKER_01]: But just such a good book comes out in August. [SPEAKER_01]: I think you all gonna love it. [SPEAKER_01]: already read it. [SPEAKER_01]: So I know I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: I already can vouch for it.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of like, I don't know if there's anything else in my list that I'm like, oh, I'm so excited for I would love to see Toy Story 5. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I'll go to theaters to see it because of my auditory issues. [SPEAKER_00]: But I am just excited to like bask in, bask in new things and come here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, see, see you go there. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing a lot of [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be going to Florida at some point I'm going to shoot a scene for a kind of proof of concept for a film I've been attached to for like four years so long as the podcast has been around as long as the podcast has been around I remember being like, hey, it was like supposed to be August of 2022.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, hey, I'm gonna end up doing this thing We're gonna have to rearrange our lives and then it did end up happening, but it might be happening now. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm gonna [SPEAKER_00]: either go to Minnesota, maybe San Diego, who's to say, and then my mom, I think I've mentioned like she now has her second home in upstate New York, and so we're going to try to take some time up there.

[SPEAKER_00]: My brother is celebrating his marriage, which happened in January, and so they're doing like a huge barbecue in August, so I'll be going to Connecticut. [SPEAKER_00]: So like a bunch of little trips that I'm really excited for traveling-wise, and that's why I'm excited to just kind of like sit and soak in summer because it's going to be a lot of fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of anticipation as we head to the fall, which is going to be fun, but that's going to be awesome. [SPEAKER_01]: But I also feel like it feels good, or it feels okay, that Gilmore Girls nap left Netflix, and it's not going to be as easily accessible to me until I acquire Hulu at some point.

[SPEAKER_01]: But we're engaging in new things, new things are happening. [SPEAKER_01]: But before we engage in all of these new things, let's talk a little bit about the year that we have had on come or to say, thus far too. [SPEAKER_01]: Because there's some faves, some least faves, some bestie faves that I would like to talk about.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it. [SPEAKER_01]: What was your favorite episode that we recorded this year so far? [SPEAKER_00]: Favorite episode content wise or two record? [SPEAKER_01]: I will let you deal with choice. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do a couple because I loved going to the Spotify studios to record the cold opens episode with you the first two of our season because it was just so fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love recording a person with you. [SPEAKER_00]: I just always have a good time, especially when we're at the Spotify studios. [SPEAKER_00]: We just like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like I'm actually a professional podcaster. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm in my bedroom right now.

[SPEAKER_01]: So this is feels different. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: It feels real for some reason. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm a real podcaster, but now I'm like [SPEAKER_00]: I am a real podcaster here as well. [SPEAKER_00]: It's true, you know, it's just different. [SPEAKER_00]: It just makes things feel different, especially because we don't ever really get to record together.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's a rarity. [SPEAKER_00]: So that was a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: I loved doing the rom-coms episode. [SPEAKER_00]: That was a lot of fun for me. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, personal level. [SPEAKER_00]: I had a great time, but I loved our non-blons episode, the other roles. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was so much fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: I loved our scene analysis episode, but he's my dean. [SPEAKER_00]: That was really cool and interesting and something new, and I think it's really difficult to find a new angle sometimes when you've been doing a podcast for as long as we have. [SPEAKER_00]: And boy, have, I guess. [SPEAKER_00]: And to have found the, like, just this new angle to talk about the show and dissect it, I had so much.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then the townies episode, just like repeating lines with you, what a silly ghost time. [SPEAKER_01]: Like what, what, what, what else do we need to do with this? [SPEAKER_00]: When you said, my girlfriend is the horror. [SPEAKER_01]: I lost my mind. [SPEAKER_01]: You know who actually wrapped that reel up to me was my father.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but he was like, oh, that was funny. [SPEAKER_01]: That feels like a really good example of your dynamic. [SPEAKER_01]: And I said to be fair that that real was edited. [SPEAKER_01]: That was not how the conversation happened. [SPEAKER_01]: And he goes, oh, compliment, we're about to.

[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh. [SPEAKER_01]: Except he was joking. [SPEAKER_01]: But he was like, oh, so funny. [SPEAKER_01]: When you said my girlfriend is the horn, I was like, I'm glad you thought that. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you thought that. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you thought that. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, on the opposite side of that, I'm not saying that I did not have fun recording that episode.

[SPEAKER_01]: I had fun with you recording that episode, but it was one of those ones that when it was over, I was like, you know, I just don't think that was our best work. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how that's gonna land. [SPEAKER_01]: I felt that exact same way about an autumn matter and our first year, most popular episode.

[SPEAKER_01]: Still one of our most popular episodes. [SPEAKER_01]: And then when Tani's came out, everyone was like, I couldn't stop laughing. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I had to start walking when I was on a run because I couldn't stop laughing. [SPEAKER_01]: This was gonna be a rest episode today. [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, what?

[SPEAKER_01]: Wow. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you guys, I left anxious. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, why did you choose that? [SPEAKER_00]: She was like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I don't know how to work. [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, well, Lisa apparently was it was it was it was done. [SPEAKER_01]: So we couldn't do anything about it at that point, you know, but I think my favorite one was the season for ring goods and recipes finale scene analysis, there was just something that felt really.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, really, like, back to the origins of the podcast of, like, finding new ways to talk about gummar girls, really getting in deep, really having, like, this long conversation about, like, a four-minute scene would just felt so us that I, I don't know, it just, like, reinvigorated, like, an excitement for the podcast.

[SPEAKER_01]: Not that I wasn't excited, but it's just like like you said it's hard to find new ways to talk about this thing we've been talking about for four years now. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and I sure I loved it. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to do more of them. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm glad that y'all did. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we did love Daisy's intributors and did that final scene with Max's proposal and we have some plans for the fall that we're really excited.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's lots of demand. [SPEAKER_01]: Y'all really loved that episode because in terms of like y'all's favorite episodes because I put up a little story box for our besties on Instagram And y'all said kind of our same ones like cold opens the townies episode and the scene analysis and there was a strong call for more scene analysis and like we heard you we got you and we planned accordingly.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we're just waiting for fall [SPEAKER_00]: What about least faves? [SPEAKER_01]: Were there any least faves on your list because I can't really think of any of those These faves was just that that one episode that I was like, I left and I was like, I don't know y'all I don't know how that went Yeah, and it turns out it was fine.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was super good unlike that same sort of note We did start mails all this year. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and boy what a time we are having a marvelous time if you will [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that like I like of course you don't have to join our Patreon to watch Mazeal. [SPEAKER_01]: You can just watch Mazeal, but we are having so much fun with that podcast.

[SPEAKER_01]: I do have to tell you guys a really really heartbreaking fact. [SPEAKER_01]: And that is that Lenny Bruce has died like about 50 or 60 years ago at this point. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, I found that out recently. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't die on the show. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't die on the show.

[SPEAKER_01]: And it has been about 50 or 60 years since his [SPEAKER_01]: since he passed. [SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I think this year it will be 60 years, since he, wow. [SPEAKER_01]: And finding that out was heartbreaking because I love that man. [SPEAKER_01]: I love Lenny Bruce so much. [SPEAKER_01]: He loves Kirby.

[SPEAKER_01]: Kirby's, portrayal of Lenny Bruce. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: That, like, I think you're all missing out if you haven't watched a show. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, you don't have to watch it alongside a marvelous time if you don't want to. [SPEAKER_00]: We would love for you. [SPEAKER_00]: We would love to have more.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's marvelous. [SPEAKER_01]: But you are missing out because [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not going to tell you what it's about. [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have to find out you're going to have to watch the first eight episodes in the next five. [SPEAKER_00]: But also season two episode four.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to the Catskill. [SPEAKER_01]: Also good. [SPEAKER_01]: But episode five just all my faves were in it except for one. [SPEAKER_01]: And I just marvelous magnificent. [SPEAKER_01]: We watched it live with the besties if you want to go watch it with us. [SPEAKER_00]: But early last power ten minutes before the episode.

[SPEAKER_01]: But we did come back. [SPEAKER_01]: We came back, um, but yeah, so in terms of nasal, that has been quite quite fun, but yeah, so I don't really have a least fave from Gilmore to say, no, but I did leave that one episode being like, oh, I kind of want to be record that and then you guys loved it.

[SPEAKER_01]: So what do I know? [SPEAKER_01]: What do I have? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so what do I know? [SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, I rarely have a least favorite episode when it comes to ones that we record. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I think I wouldn't record it if I didn't want to. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if we didn't like it, we probably be like, let's go to it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, sometimes I'll say like, if we get to an episode and we're like, we don't know the right way to record this and if we record it right now, we wouldn't like it. [SPEAKER_00]: But it happened to us a couple of weeks ago. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we just like kind of switch our schedule [SPEAKER_01]: entry point a concept like a format for it that we do appreciate because we're like I'm not going to like this episode based on how I'm going to go into this so we just like don't we don't even start no we probably won't press record if we'd feel if you don't episode which is yeah great it's a great system great so still having incredible editor who will work with us I know we love you

[SPEAKER_01]: episode that you're most excited for in the second half of the year. [SPEAKER_01]: So many, so many, so can we talk about that? [SPEAKER_01]: There's some of them we can't talk about yet because you guys just don't even, you guys don't even know what's happening on our calendar right now.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like just wait, just wait, there are cool things. [SPEAKER_01]: But what is my favorite? [SPEAKER_01]: What am I most looking forward to? [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, there's like two that I can't say, but one of them is a scene analysis of in season six. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a season six scene analysis that we're going to do in I believe October.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, November. [SPEAKER_01]: No, November. [SPEAKER_00]: Quite excited for that one. [SPEAKER_00]: Quite excited. [SPEAKER_00]: It is going to be a two-parter. [SPEAKER_00]: It gives you any hint. [SPEAKER_00]: It does. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know what we're talking about. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, there's a couple.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also excited because we're gonna try and be in person for a couple of episodes this fall season So I'm excited for that. [SPEAKER_00]: What about you? [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like so like we're just teasing people. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I like to be like you don't even know But like yeah, you don't even know cuz we don't quite know yet [SPEAKER_01]: as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean we do. [SPEAKER_00]: We have a whole, our, our, our full is all planned out, but we always, you know, change a, change a couple things here and there. [SPEAKER_00]: It's also contingent on certain things happening, certain guests confirming and when that, it's not Amy from a pallet, you know, like I feel like I feel like we need to get that out the way.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's not the girls. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not the girls. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll just, we'll just put that aside. [SPEAKER_01]: But we do have some other, it's exciting still. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I just don't want you guys to be like, oh my gosh, they got a me and dad. [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't know.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, you guys would know as soon as that happened. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But something I'm really excited about. [SPEAKER_00]: And I set this last year when we celebrated the 25th anniversary is that like, we're going to be celebrating 25th anniversary. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of things.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we kind of did that with love Daisy's [SPEAKER_00]: Um, we kind of did that with Love Dases and Trimotors, but something that is coming up in the fall is Sadie Sadie is 25th anniversary and the arrival of Jess Mariana is 25th anniversary. [SPEAKER_01]: Guys, if we aren't having a Jess Mariana November, I'm leaving, we're both quitting.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, so as the, you know, host talent producers, creative directors of the podcast, we will be doing a Jess Mariana November. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we will. [SPEAKER_00]: And one of the episodes I'm really excited to do is a petty crimes episode because there were some petty crimes that happened on the show that just feel like so mischievous, so just Marianna, so silly, so Gilmore girls.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the other one that I'm really excited about is Brett coming back to do a year in the life and to watch it for the first time and celebrate the 10th, [SPEAKER_00]: Um, but as we talked about in our Netflix, our Gilmore Girls is leaving Netflix episode last week. [SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's, it's, it's, um, it's, I'm also like, I'm, I'm looking forward to just kind of like having a good sendoff, Brett's episode, he'll be watching it for the first time doing a little reaction and analysis with us and the next day it will.

[SPEAKER_00]: literally go literally leave. [SPEAKER_01]: Farewell, goodbye. [SPEAKER_01]: But the one that I just remembered that I'm I think that I really am really looking forward to recording and offering up to the besties is scenes that should have won Lauren Graham and Emmy for like Emmy season.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think that's going to be really fun, but we have lots of fun guests, we've lots of fun plans, we have lots of fun collabs on the way. [SPEAKER_01]: And some of them we can't talk about contractually right now. [SPEAKER_01]: Some of them we can't talk about because we want you to be excited later.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, some of them we just don't want to, you don't want to really yet, but yeah, it's not Alexis, it's not Lauren, it's not Amy, like just lower your expectations if that's what you thought so we were getting excited about. [SPEAKER_00]: There's other things to be excited about. [SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I wanted to mention was my favorite gammor tree pick, which feels really because I actually love them all, which is why I pick them all.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it has to be the correspondent by Virginia Evans, which I really think that she would like. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm really excited because they're adapting that to a movie with Jane Fonda. [SPEAKER_01]: But I just love a book that really centers an older woman. [SPEAKER_01]: because I feel like we get, you know, a lot of the books that we especially read on the podcast are like younger leaning romances that I feel like getting the perspective of an older woman who like for the most part across the board and most industries especially in film.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like once you women hit a certain age, they kind of just like, [SPEAKER_01]: fade off. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't really address them anymore. [SPEAKER_01]: So I just really loved getting this perspective from a very complicated older woman told exclusively through letters but really really loved.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I think my favorite Gilmour-Tree episode while all of them are my favorite. [SPEAKER_01]: The most monumental for me was Sarah Dassen. [SPEAKER_00]: Like I know how much that meant for meant to you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, there's like two pillars of things that built me in my teens.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's Sarah Dassen and Gilmour girls. [SPEAKER_01]: So like two [SPEAKER_01]: For one of them to like tee up the opportunity for me to be able to talk to the other one, felt incredible and like made me love this community all the more because that's the only reason that I got to talk to her was like to be able to present her and her work in front of all of you.

[SPEAKER_01]: So [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, I'm in a cry, I love it so much. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, it was like such a highlight of the year. [SPEAKER_01]: Life decade, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's lovely. [SPEAKER_01]: It's much as I loved all of them. [SPEAKER_01]: It's much as I love all of our guests.

[SPEAKER_01]: That one was just like, [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: It got me. [SPEAKER_00]: It's up to your top tier. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but episodes that besties are excited for was another question that I put up on the Instagram and can I tell you the amount of people that are looking forward to Halloween is way way more than I thought.

[SPEAKER_01]: I love to be blue with the cake. [SPEAKER_01]: Blue with the cake. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that what I need to do is lock in right now with my mom's cricket machine and make a clue board for the two of them when I'm in Florida. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's what we need to do. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: We need to walk in with kit with a cricket cricket not sponsored by cricket but like I do I do think we need to like really lock in and have like an official board. [SPEAKER_01]: I think we could try to figure out how to do that together in some capacity. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure how but a lot of people are excited for it and I always thought that that was like something that we liked.

[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know for us and hoping the best he's liked it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, someone said in episodes who're looking forward to, Josephine just said the Gilmours, we got your card, no worries. [SPEAKER_01]: Other people are also excited about our Lauren Graham Emmy should have been Emmy episode, which I love about it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that what I love so much is that so many of y'all have like recognized the trends that we have from year to year of like annual episodes like back to school, Halloween, how to have Gilmourgles fall and like those are all things that y'all look forward to in the fall, which I really appreciate but me too.

[SPEAKER_01]: I like the y'all are as excited for them as we are, but [SPEAKER_01]: the scene analysis really was like the most popular, which with us as well. [SPEAKER_01]: So no worries. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, girlies. [SPEAKER_01]: And Justin. [SPEAKER_01]: And Justin. [SPEAKER_01]: I also asked what guests you want to just to get and everyone was like Amy, Dan, Lauren, [SPEAKER_01]: And we're like, if only they would ding to come on the podcast, we would welcome them with open arms, or closed arms, if that was what they preferred.

[SPEAKER_01]: If they didn't want us to open our arms too wide, reminds me of Mitch. [SPEAKER_01]: Toats up on down. [SPEAKER_01]: But there's just like everyone was like basically every cast member was listed like all the writers were listed. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, well, try. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.

[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And speaking of guests, we are actually really excited we get to sit down with one of the writers next week, John Stevens, who wrote on Gilmore Girls, but also Gossip Girl, and I am so excited to pick his brain. [SPEAKER_00]: He's been doing this series on Instagram.

[SPEAKER_00]: He just joined Instagram and he already has like 20,000 followers on the most [SPEAKER_01]: amazing stories about how his life lended to the writing on Gilmore Girls. [SPEAKER_01]: But also he is a part of the new Amazon series every year after, based on every summer after by Carly Fortune.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like it's because he is a part of such like a pivotal show and so many of his lives Gilmore Girls, but also a very relevant, very new show. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm just so excited to hear everything he asked us to say, I don't even know what I want to ask him yet because I feel like there's so [SPEAKER_00]: I know, and if you guys are familiar, he actually did post about this on Instagram.

[SPEAKER_00]: He is the guy who's sitting next to Laura Lai and Suki and concert interruptus when they're laughing up in the nosebleeds and they're like, don't you think this is funny and he's like, you know, I don't. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And he talks about how it was as acting to you. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait.

[SPEAKER_00]: That I know we're going to talk to him about it and that'll be a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: So next week we'll be sitting down and chatting with John Stevens and we'll have more to say on that in the next episode.
