[SPEAKER_01]: 5, 6, 7, 8. [SPEAKER_01]: Good bye Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: Bye Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye girl. [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for coming.

[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for coming. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmour Disay with Tara and Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Tara, this is Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley. [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Tara. [SPEAKER_00]: Bye, Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: Goodbye, Netflix.

[SPEAKER_01]: So long. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm in era. [SPEAKER_01]: Farewell. [SPEAKER_01]: To you, my, but you know, it really is the end of an era. [SPEAKER_01]: It really feels like an end of an era for Netflix itself. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, because today, June 30th, is the last day you can watch Gilmour Girls on Netflix, which feels crazy to say because it has been on the streaming platform since 2014.

[SPEAKER_00]: And as a huge reason why the revival ended up happening. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a huge contributor to your life in 2016. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I feel like it's one of their top shows, like year after year that it's streamed. [SPEAKER_01]: So it just feels so weird that you're not going to be able to open Netflix and watch Gilmore Girls.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's actually the only benefit for me for this is our cold opens episode. [SPEAKER_01]: Completely obliterated. [SPEAKER_01]: My Gilmore Girls profile, if you will, because every single episode starts at the theme song. [SPEAKER_01]: because I watched every single cold open. [SPEAKER_01]: So anytime I'd go to an episode it would just start playing the theme song.

[SPEAKER_01]: Simply because of that. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's a nice reset. [SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part, it's like a bummer. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's a bummer. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we wanted to talk about it today because conveniently to stay the day we release episodes is the last day that you can watch it on Netflix.

[SPEAKER_00]: But we also wanted to give a little bit of context a little bit of history from what we know about Netflix's history with Gilmour Girls because a lot of people are up in arms and mad at Netflix that the show was going away. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're like, you can't move this to it?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the common misconception here, I think is that Netflix was just like, okay, bye, whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: They just have a title. [SPEAKER_00]: And they were like, later, you guys don't even want this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a [SPEAKER_00]: I, I think, and this is, this is just an assumption on my part.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think Netflix is very sad to see Gilmore girls go. [SPEAKER_00]: I do not think they let go of it willingly. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they were like, here we go. [SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: I think given how close to the departure date, they delivered this information, I feel like behind the scenes, things were happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: they were trying to see if they could continue their licensing agreement because that is the reality. [SPEAKER_00]: They're licensing agreement expired today. [SPEAKER_00]: And that is why the show is no longer going to be available to stream on Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not that they were like, ah, you know what?

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just let it just let it fly. [SPEAKER_00]: What if the girl is pretty much in this? [SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of people who might not know the context are really mad at Netflix and cancelling their accounts and all of this stuff because they're like, how could you do this to us?

[SPEAKER_00]: And there's so much that happens behind the scenes. [SPEAKER_00]: Things that we're not even going to cover today because we have such a limited amount of information. [SPEAKER_00]: But there is a deep rich history between Gilmore Girls and Netflix that I think deserves the acknowledgement and its flowers.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we can talk about the history. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about the present and what's happening and also with the future of watching Gilmore Girls looks like some ways that you guys can watch it at home. [SPEAKER_00]: We've been talking about this a little bit on our Instagram.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we also leaned in heavily into the drama of like it's going away. [SPEAKER_00]: Girl, you know I love to be dramatic. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually coined any term for myself this week because of it because I've not been feeling well, so I didn't have the energy to be a drama queen. [SPEAKER_01]: So what is a drama person who doesn't have the energy to be the queen but a drama peasant?

[SPEAKER_00]: A drama peasant. [SPEAKER_01]: I've been calling myself the drama peasant this week because I have a sore throat and Gilmore girls left is leaving Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: So like what's a girl to do whose entire life revolves around watching good more girls on Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: But to be dramatic about it, it's not going away.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like I can always watch Gilmore girls in some capacity. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's just like a comfort thing. [SPEAKER_01]: I think from the moment I had an Netflix account or from the moment when we were all showed up on Netflix, it's been in my continue watching. [SPEAKER_01]: Like since then.

[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's just just a role loss for us, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: So it is. [SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like a common ground too for some reason that like now we're all going to be split off. [SPEAKER_00]: Watching it for ways. [SPEAKER_01]: I genuinely think though that Netflix is the reason that Gilmore Girls had such a resurgence.

[SPEAKER_00]: I have no doubt in my mind, because on October 1st, 2014, all seven seasons of the series began streaming on Netflix's Watch Instantly Service in the US, at least. [SPEAKER_00]: And all episodes, including the three seasons before the WBs, when it transitioned into the 69 format and then went on to become the CW, it all was there and accessible to us.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that that accessibility brought of resurgence, especially because it came on in the fall. [SPEAKER_00]: And it really dubbed Gilmore Girls, like the fall show across the board because it was so accessible and because [SPEAKER_00]: people who didn't get to watch the show on the WB or on Brewery runs on ABC family or any of the cable services where it would would rerun.

[SPEAKER_00]: They finally had access to it and that just bred a whole new fandom in addition to welcoming all of us home who had been watching the show for many years. [SPEAKER_00]: Because, of course, we had our box sets, but you figure with us on YouTube, you can see them behind me all stacked up in a little way.

[SPEAKER_01]: A little distance of 7. [SPEAKER_00]: I did include 7. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to be exclusive. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be nice today. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just for their friends. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But I remember being able to stream it finally on Netflix.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it admittedly made my box sets a little obsolete because that was what I was doing up until that point. [SPEAKER_00]: I was just changing them out after every four episodes. [SPEAKER_00]: Disc change, disc change. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, and now I could finally stream it and I think a lot of people who are existing fans felt the same way, but it opened up a whole new opportunity for people who didn't know the show, especially generations below us who didn't enjoy the show in real time.

[SPEAKER_00]: To finally have that exposure to stars hollow and so yeah, we can't ignore that we can't ignore that Netflix gave everybody that opportunity and shortly after that. [SPEAKER_00]: was when this hub of a revival and the movie that had been kind of talked about since 2007 when Amy first mentioned it started coming up to the surface again and then ATX happened in 2015 which we covered about a year ago at this time and then Netflix worked with the WB to bring about a year in the life.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I don't think it would have happened in the way that it had had its popularity, not like exploded on Netflix, because they saw it as such, like a popular show. [SPEAKER_01]: They realized the success that it would have if they provided more. [SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, we've heard like Lauren Graham and Amy Shemar Paladino talk about people coming up to talk to them about Gilmore Girls, and like she's always like, how do you know they're show you're eight years old?

[SPEAKER_01]: That's like seven years old, so Amy, to say. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's because you watch it on Netflix and because like you said like there's not an nostalgia factor of people who love it who now have it at their fingertips I know so many people who watch the show on their phone under their pillow like it's like a soothing them to sleep or they do it the worst way which is just played on their TV so the blue lights just impacting their sleep which like let's talk about it maybe this is like a good way for them to transition out of TV [SPEAKER_01]: Lulling them to sleep, but I know so many people that like that's just what they need at night to like Suth them into it's like their version of white noise, but I know so many people who like they'll turn it on while they're working Well, they're taking a nap while they're cooking and it's just like so accessible in that format on Netflix But again, it just seemed like

[SPEAKER_01]: There were people who were so nostalgic about it, but some people who just this is how they were introduced to it is it's was streaming on Netflix Like I was using Netflix back when they would send you like the DVDs out. [SPEAKER_01]: I watched it. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god of me Yeah, of course and so having like it instant in that way Really just changed the trajectory of the really honestly the legacy of Gilmore girls [SPEAKER_01]: that like it became this fall show because it was so accessible because you didn't have to have a box set.

[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't have to like buy specifically Gilmore rolls. [SPEAKER_01]: You probably already had a Netflix subscription and you're like, hey, I want to watch the show that is new to me or maybe your mom watched it in the 2000s and introduced it to you in your teenager, something along those lines.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like I've heard so many different stories from like, [SPEAKER_01]: authors who like they brought it to their kids because it was on Netflix or they watched part of it in the arts but they finished it on Netflix and there's just so many people that they have so many different experiences with it but it all comes back to everyone has the same sort of like Netflix experience that like yeah they finished watching it they rewatched it they remembered how much they loved it and I don't I don't know another show that kind of did that [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that a lot of shows had their resurgence moment and I'd like to credit Netflix with that because they were really the first streamer for television shows that launched an ignited streaming platforms like Hulu like Prime Video, you know, I mean, at least I think like Netflix to me feels like the first platform that I was saying, oh, I'm subscribing to

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, you had and then they were developing their own originals like Orange is the new black and House of Cards and so I think that any sort of resurgence in accessibility to shows that were really popular. [SPEAKER_00]: in the 90s, in the arts, like Friends, Seinfeld, the office.

[SPEAKER_00]: All of these shows that maybe you were there for, but you wanted to experience again, and now you had the accessibility to it, or shows that you had an experience before, and now you have the accessibility to it, for me, that was the office. [SPEAKER_00]: I never seen it, and I got to binge it over and over and over again when it was on Netflix.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's because that was kind of like, Netflix was like the old faithful of streaming services. [SPEAKER_00]: almost everybody had a Netflix account. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And then, of course, you know, in the 2010s, in the late 2010s, every network started developing a streaming service because it was becoming more popular and that's completely different story.

[SPEAKER_00]: But it started to edge cable out a little bit and therefore you kind of had to pick and choose, which streaming platforms you wanted to invest in. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I know in the process, I'm sure every streaming platform lost some customers to other ones. [SPEAKER_00]: But I think Netflix has been a pretty steady, constant, especially for Gilmourgel's fans because they knew it was always there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And ironically, it was on Netflix longer than it was on the WB. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was on there for 12 years. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which I also think is quite interesting that in 2014 was like the 12 year license that they had, which means that Netflix never owned Gilmore Girls because they do not own the IP.

[SPEAKER_01]: It is owned by Warner Brothers. [SPEAKER_01]: And so they had a license for 12 years because I remember in 2021, I made a TikTok being like Gilmore Girls' leaving Netflix in 2026 but I bet they'll renew their license before then. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's actually play that TikTok because I found it earlier today because I wanted to insert it into the episode if we were able to find it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's let's put that in right here. [SPEAKER_01]: It was via this comment that I found that Netflix only has a license for Gemocross until 2026 and like it's highly likely that they would just renew the license or another streaming platform would pay more and they would acquire it. [SPEAKER_01]: It is highly unlikely that they would just like drop it and that you would have to go back to watching your DVDs because it is like routinely in the top like [SPEAKER_01]: acquired programming for streaming services.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I did read an article that it is going to be the 10 year anniversary of a year in the life and that Netflix does routinely take down their original shows. [SPEAKER_01]: They might take that down if they don't have the license for the original show anymore. [SPEAKER_01]: And to that, I say, oh, no.

[SPEAKER_01]: I really thought that they were going to renew their license. [SPEAKER_01]: I did, too. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that the thing is it's streamers. [SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard to say that it's lucrative for them to have a project like that because the price of Netflix, of course, has gone up over the years.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so Netflix makes their money by having subscribers. [SPEAKER_01]: But I have seen so many people cancel their Netflix subscription because it was their way of watching Gilmour Rolls. [SPEAKER_01]: It was Gilmour Rolls on demand. [SPEAKER_01]: And so I find it quite funny that I was like, no, like, don't worry about it, it'll be here, but it's not.

[SPEAKER_01]: But what is quite interesting about the relationship of Gilmour Rolls original series to the revival is that in 2016 Warner Bros. gave Netflix a 10-year license to [SPEAKER_01]: a year in the life. [SPEAKER_01]: And so it seemed like Warner Bros. was like giving themselves till 2026 to kind of like figure out what they wanted to do with this project, or the IP of Gilmore Girls, because both of those things are losing the license on Netflix in the same year.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so I find that quite interesting from the perspective of Warner Bros, especially because Warner Bros, like their streaming platform, [SPEAKER_01]: is HBO Max. [SPEAKER_01]: So there hasn't been anything said about the fact that Gilmore Girls is going to HBO Max. [SPEAKER_01]: I imagine that that will be a big push at some point in the near future that it will appear there because it is like an original project of theirs being Gilmore Girls.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I imagine that at some point in the near future we will be watching Gilmore Girls on HBO Max, which is really [SPEAKER_01]: But that's just like my prediction for that because of course it showed up on Hulu Disney Plus because those were all mixed in together back in 2024, which everyone was like, what are you doing here?

[SPEAKER_01]: Like why why do you have this all of the sudden? [SPEAKER_00]: So like that's something because it's 2024 was it really last I feel like it was last spring. [SPEAKER_00]: like spring 24 was wow. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, based on what I looked up it was in 2024, which Hulu now is trying to sweep in and get all the girlies, but yeah, which I commented on their post and then it became a very popular comment because they, Hulu made a [SPEAKER_01]: Posts that said gangs all here like really pushing the fact that yeah, they were like guys You have it.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's we have so proud. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I commented. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why did this. [SPEAKER_01]: I said gangs interrupted by ads though Yeah, I used to something like gangs gang Gangs and troubles though. [SPEAKER_01]: I said gangs interrupted by ads though and it became a very popular comment.

[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, ooh [SPEAKER_01]: I'm very much regret this now because I'm really like you can pay without ads. [SPEAKER_00]: It was like, but Netflix didn't Like 32 99 a month to not have ads on the bundle. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah on the bundle at least with Hulu and Disney Plus because I was looking it out And that's the thing is that, you know, of course during the reruns and the original run We watched it with commercials, but on your DVD player you don't have commercials on Netflix no commercials [SPEAKER_00]: And we've gotten used to that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Someone was like, but you can take a bathroom break when the commercials happening. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, what? [SPEAKER_01]: Every three minutes when a commercial plays? [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I tried that with Amazon, like, prime video, watching Measle. [SPEAKER_01]: I immediately, after the first ad, I said, hmm, no.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I paid for ad free because like I'm not I'm not going to watch the show that I love with that like please miss me totally so I do think that that is the thing that's quite confusing to me that like in 2024 they suddenly had Gilmore girls I don't know if it was because it was a very lucrative offer for Warner brothers to have it on there that [SPEAKER_01]: they paid a lot for this license.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not even sure how long the license there is for, but it's still active. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not expiring in the same way that it is for Netflix, but I do think that it's very important to note that back in, I want to say 2022 when Warner Brothers merged with discovery. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that Warner Bros. was definitely going through a tough time financially and it's important to note that that is still true, which is why it has been up for acquisition over the last year and Netflix for a moment there looked like they were going to buy it and that would have changed everything about what we're talking about today because [SPEAKER_00]: they would have essentially, and effectively, bought Warner Bros. media, which, and their library, which would have meant that they likely could have kept Gilmore Girls on their platform, but they were outbid by Skydance Paramount, and that's a whole other thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's all other story. [SPEAKER_00]: It has been approved. [SPEAKER_00]: It is not completely gone into effect yet, but it is looking like Paramount is going to be buying Warner Bros. And so for now, there is a high possibility that Gilmore Girls will end up also on HBO. [SPEAKER_00]: But if that all gets acquired, then it might end up on Paramount Plus, and who knows what they're going to do with that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the idea, and again, this is just from my purview, I don't have any facts to support this. [SPEAKER_00]: But I think the idea was that Netflix has a lot of control as a streaming service. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that a company like Warner Bros. [SPEAKER_00]: Discovery paramount, they're trying to still keep their hands on all of the valuable material that they have.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, because Netflix not only has acquired a bunch of that, but they've also put out a lot of Netflix originals. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's just interesting to me to think that there was a world in which Netflix had ownership of the, of the Warner Bros. IP and therefore get more girls for it to not only stay on the platform, but to see what happened with another.

[SPEAKER_00]: potential a year in the life, this Christmas movie that Lauren Graham has been kind of putting out there and I'm not saying that Netflix's not acquiring Warner Brothers means that that's not going to happen, but I do think that because they were a part of a year in the life, we just all kind of assumed that maybe they would be a part of it and also because it's been living on Netflix and they did the revival together that maybe that would be kind of the part to there.

[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, before the licensing wasn't renewed, it seemed like a no-brainer that [SPEAKER_01]: But it really is just showing that like beyond the Netflix originals, Netflix is only as strong as it's licensing. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's true. [SPEAKER_01]: All of these other studios breaking out and having their own streaming services is making it harder for the consumer, simply because it's like, okay, now we're going to have to have one for everything.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because I remember when the office left on January 1st, 2021, why they would do that for a little bit of the pandemic. [SPEAKER_00]: In the middle of the pandemic, I was so upset. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_01]: I know because that was like my pandemic show and I like do struggles for watch it now because simply from the fact that I'm like I watched it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think I watched the entirety of the office 10 times in 2020. [SPEAKER_00]: It was not it was not I don't know if anyone remember That wasn't a good time. [SPEAKER_01]: It just wasn't a good time. [SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like you all understand when they left I ended up buying it like at the Apple version where you could just have it, but it won't play continuously like it will stop after each episode [SPEAKER_01]: And so like I had like a three episode run like you know one of my favorite episodes is good by Toby which I sing quite literally all the time.

[SPEAKER_00]: She's out here before recording this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: I wanted that to be our 5678 word but we ended up saying Netflix instead of Toby because that would have been confusing because they're quite simply as an atobie on this there Toby on Cobra Cross. [SPEAKER_01]: no, that don't think so.

[SPEAKER_01]: If there is, it's not important. [SPEAKER_01]: But it was just really hard because it's, I think it just changed the way everyone watched it because it's syndicated now, so it actually is on cable, but it's also on peacock, but like I was not about to get a peacock subscription because you have to watch it with ads.

[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have to, if you want it without ads, you have to pay for ad free. [SPEAKER_01]: And so I just bought, I just bought the whole series, but it was like, it doesn't play. [SPEAKER_01]: Continuously like the way it does on Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: And so I know that Gilmore Girls, as of recording this, I don't know what that they're probably going to increase the price when everyone catches onto this.

[SPEAKER_01]: But you can buy the entirety of Gilmore Girls on Amazon Prime for $30, which what a fucking steal. [SPEAKER_00]: What a smart move on their part. [SPEAKER_01]: Like truly perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know what the watchability is. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know that I did it. [SPEAKER_00]: I bought it.

[SPEAKER_00]: did you? [SPEAKER_01]: So I did you like play it to see if it plays it? [SPEAKER_01]: Not yet. [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: I had like I have the Amazon Prime credit card so I have a bunch of points. [SPEAKER_00]: So I was like this is a no-brainer for me because it's already very affordable but I can basically get this for free and I'll always have it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Did you do that? [SPEAKER_00]: But I also always have it physically because I have the box sets. [SPEAKER_00]: I actually have two sets of the box sets because one is from my child. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, this one I purchased, but and I'll talk about that in a second, but I wanted to have multiple ways of watching it, and that was a really, that was a no brainer for me.

[SPEAKER_00]: 29, 99 to buy on Amazon Prime, not physically digitally, so that you can watch it, and you can stream it. [SPEAKER_00]: And you don't have to pay a monthly fee to any of these streaming services that we listed unless you have other shows you want to watch on there. [SPEAKER_00]: But if you're just doing it for Gilmore Girls, there's another way.

[SPEAKER_01]: There are many other ways, but I do think it just changes the nature of how you can watch it, like being able to watch it on kind of like the loop that people like to kind of put it in the background. [SPEAKER_01]: What's quite funny because I know that Mandy does this with her dog Nellie, but in the comments of my very dramatic Instagram video, my real, that people also did this, that they turn, get more girls on for their pets when they leave because it can play for quite some time.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so, Nelly, she's watched Gilmore Girls a couple times through, because that was the show that Mandy would turn on when she left, so that there was something going out of the house. [SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm like, okay, but all of these pets who don't understand licensing, who are not going to listen to this episode and understand that they can't watch it in the same way, because like, what if their mom doesn't subscribe to Hulu?

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they're just their shows going to go away? [SPEAKER_01]: What if they're watching in the middle of the season 4, and your cat just can't watch Gilmore Girls anymore? [SPEAKER_00]: Let's add. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Very sad. [SPEAKER_01]: So. [SPEAKER_01]: It's changing so many lives.

[SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: These cats. [SPEAKER_01]: These cats can't watch. [SPEAKER_01]: Come on girls anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I also sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, play this Aaron with a lot, but yeah, all of this is to say upon seeing the news that Netflix that Gilmourls is leaving Netflix, a lot of people were like, sign this petition and ask Netflix to reconsider and I'm like, I don't think it's up to them, babes.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think one of those discovery is taking back their IP. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, taking it on their own streaming platform. [SPEAKER_00]: And I can't say that I blame them, but I also don't blame Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, they how's dip for [SPEAKER_00]: 12 years they were a huge part of the resurgence of the Gilmourkel's fandom back in 2014, the revival and the continuous ability to stream this show.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was reading this article one of the many articles that came out of how Gilmourkel's leaving Netflix and this is on what's on Netflix.com and it says the departure of Gilmourkel's marks another massive casualty in the ongoing streaming wars. [SPEAKER_00]: Warner Brothers Discovery has been aggressively clawing back its most popular legacy shows such as friends, the vampire diaries and gossip girl to bolster its [SPEAKER_00]: HBO.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's, it's HBO Max now. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: Did it go back to HBO Max? [SPEAKER_01]: Thank God. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is.

[SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that's why it's leaving. [SPEAKER_00]: It's leaving Netflix.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like it's as simple as that. [SPEAKER_00]: It truly is just and that's I I'm not like here to defend Netflix, but everybody keeps being like, I hate Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, stop it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's trust they would have kept it. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank God, trust they would have kept it for you, baby.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because like, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, it's not about the money money. [SPEAKER_01]: In this case, it's about the money money. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, that I think that Netflix probably would have paid to continue their license. [SPEAKER_01]: They probably would have up to the price because of how expensive like it is to have people's attention now.

[SPEAKER_01]: And knowing that Gilmore Girls was like surefire way to do that. [SPEAKER_01]: especially ahead of the fall like knowing that like Warner Bros. whoever is like whatever they're going to do with it like I really do think it's going to end up on HBO Max that like I imagine that they're gearing up for an HBO Max a thumbnail drop of Gilmore Rose like that is my personal idea my speculation I did not see that written anywhere I have not seen Warner Bros. give any sort of details no.

[SPEAKER_01]: But as two people who think about Gilmour Girls in relation to fall every year for the past five years, like in terms of how we do things, there's just like no way in my mind that they're not going to capitalize on that. [SPEAKER_01]: And I will say, I think that one of brothers has dropped the ball time and time again, when it comes to Gilmour Girls, because it is the crown jewel of so many streaming plot, like in like the streaming world, Gilmour Girls, [SPEAKER_01]: not only as an acquired project but overall has been a top streaming show that like so many people's attention on this they dropped the ball for the 20th anniversary for the 25th anniversary like they just keep not drawing focus and celebrating like the legacy of this show and the way that they should and if they're going to take it to their own platform and just continue to

[SPEAKER_01]: not do that. [SPEAKER_01]: I really don't see the point of it. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I know that they want people to be on their own platforms, but it really just is about the viewership at this point, the continued viewership without actually celebrating what it is and like the monumental effect that it has had.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like through this and like I'm not saying that Netflix did that either and Netflix didn't really celebrate it in any way, but again Netflix just acquired it Netflix just had the licensing to it They were one of the producers on the a year in the life, but at the end of the day They don't own this project.

[SPEAKER_01]: They do not own the IP as shown by the fact that their license for the year a year in the life is expiring this year as well. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm pretty sure [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So, which is crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: It really is just up to Warner Bros. to uphold that legacy that the fandom and the people who love this show have done and just showing that like the studio is not valuing that.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, all of that to say, it really always is about money at the end of the day and I do think that Netflix would have paid for it. [SPEAKER_01]: But now we are paying for it because it is leaving. [SPEAKER_01]: the streaming service that we all watch it on. [SPEAKER_00]: So, where can you watch it?

[SPEAKER_00]: How can you watch it? [SPEAKER_01]: We mentioned earlier in your mind on a loop, like who's not just watching chemicals on a loop in your brain. [SPEAKER_01]: Like all are. [SPEAKER_01]: Someone asked in my in the Instagram comments like, how can we watch it now? [SPEAKER_01]: And I said, it exists now only in my memory.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like clothing from Titanic. [SPEAKER_01]: He exists now only in my [SPEAKER_01]: And like that's a thing. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like just play it in your mind. [SPEAKER_00]: But if you if you do want to see it out in about in front of you, Tara, where could you watch it? [SPEAKER_00]: Let's start with physical media because I think it's really, really important.

[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people have been talking about that as of late because especially with this ever since the news broke that Gilmore rolls is going off. [SPEAKER_00]: of Netflix like I immediately posted all of my box sets and was like the box set girlies have been preparing for this since the odds we were here before we'll be here after and I know that they can be really expensive I remember oh my gosh we've talked expensive originally it was so expensive originally it was like I know people were commenting on some of our posts being like I got my box sets in my Easter basket and I was like yes I got mine for Christmas like I know my heart [SPEAKER_00]: But I actually, I got, um, I mentioned earlier that I have two box sets.

[SPEAKER_00]: One is for my childhood. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the one that like, you know, I got season one in 2005 when my mom gave it to me for my aunt Camille actually gave it to me for Christmas. [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I, I just started building them as they kept coming. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And those are scratched, like probably a disk missing here and there, just because I wore them out.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so in 2021, I actually found this is what ignited me starting to talk about Gilmore Girls on TikTok was because I had found this complete set at my local goodwill for $6 a pop. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I actually didn't get season 7, I just got season 1 through 6. [SPEAKER_01]: When you actually opened your season seven when we were doing Gamoria visited because we were reading the DVD booklets from each of them.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know, had to open it. [SPEAKER_01]: I had to open plastic plastic. [SPEAKER_01]: So there was absolutely no reason. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I didn't need it because I had gotten it from an FYU closing sale for like, well, it was originally like $60. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I got it for $14.99 maybe at an FYU closing sale when I was in college, and it just sat and it sat there.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's never been watched. [SPEAKER_00]: No, she truly has, and I just opened it so I could use the DVD box set for when we were doing our coverage. [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, season's one through six, six dollars each. [SPEAKER_00]: So I spent less than $40 and have all of the physical media.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's so important. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people are talking about how physical media is making a comeback because people want to own what they want to watch again. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that leaving the things that we want to watch subject to being available [SPEAKER_00]: can get a little tricky and it does put a lot of power in the hands of these streaming platforms, which is just the age we're existing in the 2020s.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think a lot of people are starting to buy the records, buy the CDs, buy the DVDs again, getting a DVD player. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's a fine. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that because I love knowing that I, especially if, I don't have an or not that day, or maybe I just want to go a little analog and want to go a little 90s early odds.

[SPEAKER_00]: for the day. [SPEAKER_00]: I can just like pop on a DVD player, a DVD and a DVD player. [SPEAKER_00]: And watch Gilmore Girls watch when he remits Ali watch everything that I keep because I have over the years paired down in my DVD collection because when am I watching DVDs, everything's available for us to stream.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I definitely keep my hands on things that I know I want to watch. [SPEAKER_00]: My favorite movies, my favorite rom-coms. [SPEAKER_01]: Also because a lot of the time when you're buying digital content it doesn't always mean that you're owning it because I know like with with like a candle at least you don't own the book you want a license to the book so but you're still paying for it But you don't you're not necessarily the owner of it and so you know that was something like owning a box at owning DVDs that's the case [SPEAKER_01]: And I know that I believe that they just came back out with the blue ray addition of the Gamarkoles DVDs or I guess the Gamarkoles box at the blue ray.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm not sure how expensive that is. [SPEAKER_01]: But someone commented saying that it is quite expensive and someone else said that like your local library has physical media. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that's actually really great way that it would feel very, I don't know, like slow living to go to your local library, check out season one, go through season one, go back for season two, maybe you want to make sure you can get all of them at one time, so you're going to go check them all out, but you can, [SPEAKER_01]: either go request it from your library, get on the wait list for it, and if they don't have it, put in a request that they get, get more girls, knowing that you will want to watch it, other people will want to, and if your library knows that you're interested in it, they will acquire that for you so that you can check it out, because I imagine that they would see that as valuable, and we should all support our local library, because there's so many things

[SPEAKER_01]: Check out there beyond just books, CDs, DVDs, so go support your local library and watch come on girls. [SPEAKER_00]: And then if you want to continue watching it digitally, as we mentioned, it's still available to stream on Disney Plus and Hulu, depending on the bundle you have with commercials.

[SPEAKER_00]: We also mentioned earlier that on Amazon Prime, they were running a sale with Prime Video for you to be able to buy all seven seasons, initially it was $30, but we just checked. [SPEAKER_00]: And as of today, June 18th, it is $80. [SPEAKER_00]: It is originally $160, and they slashed it in half to do $80, but it was for a couple of days.

[SPEAKER_00]: For the first few days that this had been announced, $29. [SPEAKER_01]: So one over there was like, we, [SPEAKER_01]: I have an idea and they made it $30 and I'm sure so many people flocked to that that's why they increase the price of it, which is so Amazon of them, but that is so Amazon of them, but again, own your physical media, you can watch it on Hulu.

[SPEAKER_01]: You will maybe have to suffer through ads, which some people call it nostalgic. [SPEAKER_00]: I say that's not the story in any way. [SPEAKER_00]: But also, I wish, here's the thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Is I wish that if we had ads on shows like Gilmourgles, run nostalgic ads? [SPEAKER_01]: I actually thought of that recently that, like, [SPEAKER_01]: If like a company that has been around for as long as the show has, makes an ad specific to the time period of this show would be so good.

[SPEAKER_01]: But the other problem with putting ads in these shows is they're not necessarily running at the ad break. [SPEAKER_01]: Because of course, Gilmore Girls was a cable show. [SPEAKER_01]: that came on the WBCW and so there are ad breaks for them but the ad breaks that exist are not always where the ad breaks are.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's so weird. [SPEAKER_01]: So because they happen more frequently. [SPEAKER_01]: So there is that about it too. [SPEAKER_01]: So that I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: Ad still feel nostalgic to me. [SPEAKER_01]: Unless they don't. [SPEAKER_01]: Like Laura Light does where she taped it on a VHS and it has the original [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, there's something so comforting about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I would be fine. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the nostalgic portion. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, like ads are nostalgic. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like not these ads not these ones No, this is a 4x50 ad where I can see it in 4k That's not nostalgic to me. [SPEAKER_01]: Not nostalgic and listen. [SPEAKER_01]: We understand the necessity for fans for it's 150 if they want to advertise on our podcast [SPEAKER_00]: And we understand the need for ads as a small business like we we have to have ads and here we we totally get it and we are also we're also very small business run by two two people are not a large corporation but I digress that if you guys want to purchase it I believe on Amazon prime [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say that there will be ads, but I imagine when you purchase something, instead of renting a drink.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, when you purchase it, there's not ads. [SPEAKER_00]: Right? [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's what I thought. [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I did it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because you can rent media, you can purchase it or you can have your subscription, and you can have a subscription ad-free. [SPEAKER_01]: But if you're watching it on a subscription because it's on prime, same nasal of campus, like those will have ads unless you buy ad-free.

[SPEAKER_01]: If you buy a movie or a show, those won't have ads. [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think that that about covers it. [SPEAKER_00]: We just kind of thought it would be good to do a little history of palatable homage to Gilmore Girls' Time on Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, listen, maybe one day they'll get it back.

[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe one day something will happen and Netflix will get it back. [SPEAKER_01]: Can I say, if it ends up on HBO Max, I would be super fine with that. [SPEAKER_01]: I really love HBO Max as a platform. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like a lot of the shows they do because like HBO Max is the pit. [SPEAKER_00]: It's sex in the city.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like sex in the city is also leaving Netflix, which I was super bummed to see, but I'm not fulfilling. [SPEAKER_00]: It's because their HBO. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like they're going to have a big resurgence of like come back and watch out your faves at their home You know what I mean?

[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that's I feel like I could run a really good campaign for Warner Brothers Bringing all of their things back to HBO 100% I will say that if they instead go to Paramount I think I know a lot of people aren't feeling great about Paramount right now [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's like a whole other thing, you know?

[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about that if you had to have two years. [SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's my, they're here now there, but the hope would be that it would like exist someplace where like we all, we all are already watch shows, which like who's watching Paramount unless you're watching Paw Patrol. [SPEAKER_00]: We watch it for Rupal's Drag Race all stars, but that's okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're watching Paw Patrol or Rupal's Drag Race, Ruped if I said that Paw, Rupal's like Paw Patrol. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a proud Rupal, but yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And like at the end of the day, do I feel bad for Netflix? [SPEAKER_01]: Not really because there are huge corporations. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're fine.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna be fine. [SPEAKER_01]: But I imagined that was like a project that they really did try to keep, like a property that they wanted to have because so many people got introduced to Gamma Girls this way. [SPEAKER_01]: So many people have been able to enjoy and love it. [SPEAKER_01]: Like it's almost fall.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's really not. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the end of June, but it feels like it's almost fall to us. [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be like, honestly, August is when it starts to feel like almost fall and we're like six weeks out from that. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, and I do, I would [SPEAKER_01]: be interested to see in how that impacts a tunnel streaming at Netflix to not have their big autumn show because people do their Gilmar calls rewatch.

[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people watch it every day when they fall asleep, whatever, but I feel like the mass amount of people that watch it. [SPEAKER_01]: Is in the fall they start their rewatch so I would be really interested to see what the impact that has on Netflix But again, I don't feel I don't feel bad for a big corporation admittedly They're not only maybe they're hurting but like it's it's neither here nor there for me to feel bad They about it, but totally I don't think that people need to say like bad on Netflix like that So I would be here today against Netflix [SPEAKER_01]: They weren't trying to do anything nefarious.

[SPEAKER_01]: They weren't trying to hurt you personally. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They wanted this because their endgame is money and keeping you as a subscriber. [SPEAKER_01]: And they would have preferred to keep you Gilmore Girl fan as a subscriber. [SPEAKER_01]: But it really is up in the licensing game.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's really what streaming is all about. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is honestly why I haven't watched the office in quite some time. [SPEAKER_00]: Same. [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't watched the office in a very long time. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know how to watch peacock. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm sure I could figure it out.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not 84 years old, but like, I don't have an account for that or anything. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't have any $84 year old who doesn't know us. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not 84 years old. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying, if you're 84 years old, someone showed you how to listen to this. [SPEAKER_01]: If you're my grandmother, hi, grandma.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, she watches this on YouTube because I taught her how to watch it on our TV. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, hi. [SPEAKER_00]: So, thank you, Mommy. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Mommy. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, all that aside, it is no longer on Netflix. [SPEAKER_00]: And more sad, we're happy to pay homage to everything that Netflix brought this show a much.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think we own Netflix that. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, thank you for bringing this show to us. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the world's owes. [SPEAKER_01]: Actually, now that you say that, when did Gilmour Guy start? [SPEAKER_01]: 2014. [SPEAKER_01]: see doesn't that make sense that like they got off the ground because they were rewatching it on Netflix.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it was Scott Patterson when on Gilmore guys talked about a revival. [SPEAKER_01]: They talked about it at ATX. [SPEAKER_01]: The revival happened on Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: The Gilmore guys were in it. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I just feel like that trajectory itself is like so Netflix forward.

[SPEAKER_01]: that we really can think it for the way that it's grown for all of you who like maybe started watching in the 2010s, like you didn't get introduced to the show until then, maybe it was a pandemic show for you, but at some point I'm sure that the way that you watched it, if you started watching it after 2014, was because of Netflix.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so I feel like we can give Netflix the thank you for helping us continue this community. [SPEAKER_01]: and grow this community in the way that we had so that we all have our same comfort show because I think the vast majority of you, if you have a box set and you've loved your box set, be honest because I think you've been streaming it on Netflix for the last 10 years.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I know I have, and I imagine that you wish you could continue to keep things the same. [SPEAKER_01]: What does that lower, like, go more, go more, quote, that, I don't know why I said her full name, this podcast about Go More Girls, that she said, like, I'm okay with every, like, I'm flexible.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm flexible. [SPEAKER_00]: So long as everything goes exactly, it goes exactly my way or something like that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally flexible. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as long as everything happens exactly as I want it sort of vibes. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of how I feel about this transition out of Netflix with Gilmore Girls is like, I, I would be okay with it as long as everything stayed exactly the same.

[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that I have to click on a new app now, I'm going to get a lot of it. [SPEAKER_00]: It is going to be weird to not see Gilmore Girls come up on my like, continue watching. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we'll give Netflix that they have really honored this thing in unintentionally by putting this licensing up in 2014 to help it grow and help it reach new audiences.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think Gilmour calls owes it that like owes it that gratitude who are we to offer gratitude on path of Gilmour girls. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think at least in terms of our own community we've all been there all watching it there. [SPEAKER_01]: And now we, um, now we all part ways, not here on the podcast, but I just mean like in terms of how you're going to watch it now, whether you're going to watch it digitally, you're going to get a new subscription to where to who who or wherever ends up in the future, whether you're going to get the box sets, you have the box sets, because I know a lot of people like I have the box set, I don't have a DVD player, I know a lot of people feel that way because they're not putting DVD players in, um,

[SPEAKER_00]: in laptops now. [SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of us who have computers, you know, or even iMacs or anything, we don't have that, but I will say I know a lot of people have bought like small little DVD players that attached to your computer with like VIG USB. [SPEAKER_00]: We can even do some research and link some of them in our show notes so that you can just easy access, go and find one.

[SPEAKER_00]: but also shop your local thrift stores because I'm sure they have DVD players. [SPEAKER_00]: That is where I found my Gilmore Girls DVDs so always check out the DVD section of your local thrift store because they probably have some of them. [SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, some of them, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know now that there's kind of like a panic.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think people are sure enough. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, Facebook Marketplace. [SPEAKER_00]: If you were on Facebook, I saw a lot of, I searched like Gilmour rolls DVD box at, and people are selling them for not a lot of money. [SPEAKER_00]: That might change now that they're going to buy a rise in popularity.

[SPEAKER_00]: But there's always a way to buy things secondhand. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a portable DVD player on a road trip. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think I need that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you might need that. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, link a portable DVD player. [SPEAKER_00]: I got someone commented and said, Tara, do you still have your portable DVD player from eighth grade?

[SPEAKER_01]: You're coming from one of my covers. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure it's somewhere in my parents' house. [SPEAKER_00]: Unless they give it away, they might have. [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I kind of should be able to have ours. [SPEAKER_01]: But I will say I do have a DVD player, but I only use that when we roll.

[SPEAKER_01]: Doing the rewatch club because I have like, I will say there's DVD extras. [SPEAKER_01]: They have bonus Yeah, the scenes deleted scenes like that's how we've watched the deleted scenes in the past So it might be like a fun exploration to go and see what sort of like extras exist on the DVD box sets that you don't know exist And this is not sponsored by DVD box sets, but we sure have said that word a lot It's not but boy boy.

[SPEAKER_01]: Why do we love it? [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I'm glad we got a chance to talk about all of that today. [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully you learned a little something, and because I did, I learned a lot looking up, you know, the licensing history of this kind of what's next, where the show may be going, and so we'll see.

[SPEAKER_00]: And what I'm also really excited about is that even though a year in the life is leaving Netflix at the end of this year, we are actually doing our tenure anniversary celebration episode. [SPEAKER_01]: The day before. [SPEAKER_00]: I learned that. [SPEAKER_00]: The other night when we were on with our besties doing our nasal watch and your power went out.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I was left hanging with the besties. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we were talking about because it was the day that the news came out. [SPEAKER_00]: So like all of us were talking about it. [SPEAKER_00]: And Christie, KPU, I think was the one to talk about how a year in the life was also leaving.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, oh, geeks, what day? [SPEAKER_00]: And it was, I believe it's November 25th. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I looked on our calendar and we're doing the episode on November 24th. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's hilarious, so it's like literally the 10-year anniversary we're celebrating by Netflix losing the license thing for it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry Netflix. [SPEAKER_01]: Whoops. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But that's the name of the game when it comes to licensing. [SPEAKER_01]: It's true. [SPEAKER_01]: So it goes. [SPEAKER_01]: And so it goes. [SPEAKER_01]: But as it turns out, it's good moral is not. [SPEAKER_00]: Come on, this isn't really going anywhere.

[SPEAKER_00]: You just have to find it somewhere new. [SPEAKER_00]: You just got it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's going to be a little different to find. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's really what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: It comes down to accessibility, discoverability, and watchability. [SPEAKER_00]: So let us know where you're planning on watching it.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're doing a DVD, if you're going to go early odds in a little analog and I know watching TV is not really analog, but you know what I'm saying. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like going to go. [SPEAKER_00]: the, having the physical media. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like it's something I get again, quite fun to like look at the DVD features to look at the chapter titles like that was my favorite part of Gilmore visited.

[SPEAKER_00]: What are my favorite parts? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, not of Gilmore revisited, but watching on my DVD is growing up is when I would fall asleep to it. [SPEAKER_00]: I'd wake up in the whatever the music was on the main page would be playing. [SPEAKER_01]: my family. [SPEAKER_01]: There was nothing that could like drive my family further apart than if I left the DVD menu going for a girl's like whatever, whatever season it was because each season is slightly different than the song that plays.

[SPEAKER_01]: My mom would be like, hey me! [SPEAKER_01]: Turn your TV before you're off because through the house it would just play on a loop, but like again You fall asleep, and it doesn't say continue watching that DVD menu will just play and play and play Total and my family like stupings it up.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, oh, yeah, hey, Lee's watching Gilmore girls Segwing out of Netflix and back into Gilmore to Salem and by now you guys have seen our whimsie goes with everything tea Which haily is wearing through with us on [SPEAKER_00]: YouTube. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so cute. [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.

[SPEAKER_01]: This one is the new style. [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like a little bit like the length of it. [SPEAKER_01]: It hits a little bit higher. [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like mid hip. [SPEAKER_01]: A little bit moxier. [SPEAKER_01]: This color is called vintage white, which I really like because it's not quite ivory.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's not quite pure white. [SPEAKER_01]: It's definitely in the middle. [SPEAKER_01]: It's vintage white. [SPEAKER_01]: It's vintage white. [SPEAKER_01]: It's vintage white. [SPEAKER_01]: which I liked, I was like, oh, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: And the thing that I like about this style of tea, actually is that when you get comfort colors and you go up in size, it goes down in length.

[SPEAKER_01]: I guess it's the way to say it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like the length increases and the size overall. [SPEAKER_01]: So that like, if you wanna wear it with like bike shorts, like I really love like an XL tea with bike shorts to wear to the parks, like the parks being Disney World because I live for that.

[SPEAKER_01]: into the park. [SPEAKER_01]: But like if you're just like going about for errands like I just feel like I love a bike short oversized tea at home like I just feel like that's a look that I like but with this style the length doesn't increase too much as you increase the size. [SPEAKER_01]: It's more so that the fit overall gets bigger because it's a little boxy but I quite like a fit like that but it's not getting substantially longer.

[SPEAKER_01]: So like as it goes up in size, like it's not feeling like the shirt is just getting longer and longer and longer, which I appreciate because I wear anywhere from the size medium to size extra large based on how I feel that day based on how much I want my clothes to actually fit or not. [SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like this one is nice because it doesn't mean that suddenly the shirt is like in the middle of my thighs, like I can wear like it oversized, but it's still it's still a decent length, which I really appreciate.

[SPEAKER_01]: I just really love the design. [SPEAKER_01]: This is one of my favorites that we've done. [SPEAKER_01]: I love all of the little nods that we have. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just cute. [SPEAKER_01]: I like it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I do. [SPEAKER_01]: You should get it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: It goes with WWE. [SPEAKER_01]: Doc Gilmour to say.com. [SPEAKER_01]: You sure can. [SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell you, though? [SPEAKER_01]: this a little bit inspired like the summer that I'm going to have because of course we like to like label our summers with like colors, themes, feelings, last fall I had a teddy bear fall and so this one a little bit inspired what I want my summer to feel like this year.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna have a garden [SPEAKER_01]: No, but like, you don't want to touch it. [SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I actually don't know what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to need some more time to think on it now that you've said that. [SPEAKER_01]: That's quite good. [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of just want to lurk in your yard.

[SPEAKER_00]: I can see one of those hats locked in your eyes. [SPEAKER_00]: A beer. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay, I'm not sure about that. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna go full drama queen. [SPEAKER_01]: I have the interview with that. [SPEAKER_00]: But it is time. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're really at that halfway through the year mark, which is crazy.

[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the year just started, I feel like spring just sprung and now all of a sudden it's summer. [SPEAKER_00]: And so it's time for us to not only do our June round up, but to also, [SPEAKER_00]: Have a little mid-year, summer check-in. [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll have more to say on that in the next episode.
