[SPEAKER_02]: Five, six, seven, eight, mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: Mom, mom, mom. [SPEAKER_02]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_02]: Hi, everybody. [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back to Gilmour to say with Terran Haley. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm Terran. [SPEAKER_02]: This is Haley. [SPEAKER_02]: Hi, Haley.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hi, Terran. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was going to be like, welcome back to mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just stuck in my mind. [SPEAKER_01]: From more light to you, the mom card, the mom card, the mom card, the mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's true.
[SPEAKER_02]: Haley keeps saying it sounds like a mom card, like a card for your mom and it does. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's a card for your mom. [SPEAKER_02]: But this is a card from your mom. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's a card that your mom plays. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it's like it's no playing card. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh gosh, it is like unorivers. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's becoming an adult is. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, mom sometimes is the unorivers of like I think that's something that like they couldn't quite capture on Gilmore Girls because of like the separation between Emily and Lorelie.
[SPEAKER_01]: But like the amount of times is like I as an adult have to like look at my mom and be like no we can't do that Like you can't happen or like guide her on like cybersecurity You know, I mean, I'm like this is the woman that like raised me and now I'm some how do I have the mom got How did I get the person this how do I I guess I had to play it draw for [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Weird. [SPEAKER_02]: Is it a wild too? [SPEAKER_01]: Can I choose a color? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm choosing a color. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And the color stop. [SPEAKER_01]: The color is stop. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Very good. [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, we are here to talk about the mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: Even teasing this episode for a couple of weeks, especially last week in our Mrs. Kim versus Laura Lyum mom tactics and parenting styles episode, which I really loved doing. [SPEAKER_02]: And also, we celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday with the release of Love Daisy's Intrubedores, Gilmore Revisited Style.
[SPEAKER_02]: God, I love that episode. [SPEAKER_01]: I love the end of that one between the girls. [SPEAKER_01]: When they like run at each other, I feel like that's like the epitome of the two of them. [SPEAKER_01]: It really is. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not even separated, but they've just had separate storylines, and they see each other, and they're like, I have so much to tell you.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's only one episode, and I have so much to tell you. [SPEAKER_01]: We've only lived one episode, the two of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just cute. [SPEAKER_01]: It's sweet. [SPEAKER_01]: It is going to be cute. [SPEAKER_01]: Good finale. [SPEAKER_01]: Good job. [SPEAKER_01]: Good job everyone.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good job everybody. [SPEAKER_02]: Just a reminder, we have a Daisy's collection dropping. [SPEAKER_02]: Be sure to keep your eyes on our show notes and Instagram to find out the release date. [SPEAKER_02]: Because we're really excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Love Daisy's Intributors with not just our Gilmore revisit episode like we did on Sunday.
[SPEAKER_02]: But also with a little explosion of Daisy's drop because we've never done that before. [SPEAKER_02]: Of course, we have daisies in our gazebo's that we've released because the daisies are similar to the more. [SPEAKER_02]: But we've never done an exclusive daisies dropping them really excited about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: An explosion of daisies. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: Because I think I said, it's like a sprinkling of daisies. [SPEAKER_01]: But no, this is an explosion of daisies and makes I did for you to see it. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that you'll like it, because you like the show.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I hope you do so. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple of different options of how you can enjoy this collection [SPEAKER_01]: There's some, there's a few key to pieces coming your way. [SPEAKER_01]: But we have a, what I would say like maybe the hero item, I think you'll really like it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I agree, that's gonna be really fun. [SPEAKER_02]: So like I said, keep an eye on our show notes, keep an eye on Instagram, and where else visit our website at www.gillmoretosay.com. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, let's get into the mom card of an all, a very excited talk about this. [SPEAKER_02]: So we put up a couple of question boxes on our Instagram as we usually do because we love to hear your [SPEAKER_02]: And you guys definitely delivered.
[SPEAKER_02]: We asked about times when Laura likes to use the mom card and times when she should have used the mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to get into all that, but before we do, let's talk about the introduction to the mom card, because we didn't coin that phrase. [SPEAKER_02]: Laura like to go on coin to that phrase.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a lourilism right there. [SPEAKER_01]: It is and it comes to us immediately in the pilot. [SPEAKER_01]: The introduction of it feels so perfect given that like the concept of this, the show, of course, is that they're more like best friends, a mother and daughter. [SPEAKER_01]: So how are they going to be mother and daughter, while they're best friends?
[SPEAKER_01]: They said, oh, don't worry. [SPEAKER_01]: This is how. [SPEAKER_02]: The [SPEAKER_02]: It literally is given to us. [SPEAKER_02]: It's gifted to us in the dialogue in the first episode. [SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of you put this down when we asked for times lower life place the mom card because it's so iconic.
[SPEAKER_02]: And because, yeah, again, she uses the language. [SPEAKER_02]: She uses the term mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: And that is when worried decides that she doesn't want to go to children because she has met. [SPEAKER_02]: a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a boy, a
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she's a specific one has a mom voice, but you know, they have this conversation in Lori's bedroom famously. [SPEAKER_02]: Lori's like, I don't want to talk about this. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to go to the school anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's costing a lot of money, et cetera, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_02]: worries giving every excuse in the book and then lore-life realizes what is actually going on, worry tries to shut her out, and she says to her, we always had a democracy in this house. [SPEAKER_02]: We never did anything unless we both agreed. [SPEAKER_02]: But now I guess I'm going to have to play the mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: You were going to children, whether you want to or not. [SPEAKER_02]: Monday morning, you will be there, end of story, and she goes to leave and worries like, we'll see, and she goes, yes, we will! [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we will. [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, we will. [SPEAKER_02]: That is such a mom thing to say she shuts her door.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, we've always had a democracy in this house, but here we are, I guess, because I am still the adult and I still have to make the adult decisions and you're going to school. [SPEAKER_01]: I think what's interesting about the first use and the first introduction of the mom card.
[SPEAKER_01]: and then how people classify it, because I looked at various people's understanding of the mom card across the internet, you know, from the answers that our best piece gave us, and a lot of them I really disagree with, because mom card feels like I am in control now and I am making the decisions for the both of us, regardless of what you feel.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't feel like the mom card is necessarily encouraging or positive or sweet or any of these things. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's not something that you would write in a Mother's Day card. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not something you wouldn't want to be reminded of necessarily, like, totally as a daughter or as their child.
[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like something that I'm employing now that, like, I'm pulling this out of my back pocket because things are going poorly. [SPEAKER_01]: So we can only use this in a time of need. [SPEAKER_01]: like, in a time when I'm going to change the trajectory of this, because there were some examples that people gave that I was like, I don't think that's mom card.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's too soft to be mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's more friendly than it is mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: Because this, you were going to children, whether you like it or not, hands down mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the introduction mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: That's mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I was going to ask you to define the mom card because I think that [SPEAKER_02]: there is a difference between lower-rise definition of the mom card and what we as an audience see as the mom card which kind of is exemplified in the way that you just stated that some of the best views were giving examples that you were like I don't know if I agree with that and I think that it's a spectrum right?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the friendship to mom pipeline and spectrum is very wide and sometimes it can feel like it narrows a little bit like yeah she's doing something [SPEAKER_02]: Lorelei as a parent versus Lorelei as a friend when it came to like what was more mom and what was more friend when it came to Rory, and I think that that line can be very thin.
[SPEAKER_02]: But again, the spectrum is wide because there are times when she leans a little more towards the motherly entity. [SPEAKER_02]: She's always going to be Rory's mom. [SPEAKER_02]: So at the end of the day, things that she does for her are always going to come from that motherly place. [SPEAKER_02]: But the question that I have for you is like, where do you think lower life feels like she's crossing the line?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what's that line for her? [SPEAKER_01]: Crossing the line into using the mom card? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, when she feels like she has to control the situation, like when she has to step in and make the decision for the both of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or she is preventing Roy from doing something, or needing her to do something, I think it's less in the softness between them.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, she feels the need that she's putting her foot down. [SPEAKER_01]: She's putting the card on the table. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm making decisions for the both of us right now. [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that. [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry if you hate it. [SPEAKER_02]: I also think that Laura Lye plays the mom card when the friendship card isn't working.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that sometimes she plays the friendship card when the mom card isn't working in the little of it, too. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that she'll like, well, like, that didn't work. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go back to friends. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's try the same goal.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: It's very interesting when she kind of picks and chooses to play that mom card in these or the moments that we're going to get into today. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, now I want to play a game, like, like, Uno, where there's a mom card in it. [SPEAKER_01]: And like, when you draw the mom card, you get to make everyone's out, Elton's next play.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh. [SPEAKER_01]: When that would be so fun, that would be like, Uno, Uno, Gilmore Girls version. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and like, when the mom card comes out, everyone, like, Elton's playing, you get to make their next move. [SPEAKER_01]: Wow. [SPEAKER_01]: Because it's kind of the mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is really, like, good definition of the mom. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to I want to make a game now. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to make a card game. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's make a card game That would be so good for the last few years, but we've pivoted and now we're doing it Oh, we're pivoting exclusively like the mom card.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's like shiny like it's like Oh, yeah, it's like gold. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but that's it's kind of right. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's a mom. [SPEAKER_02]: So we're like Yeah, I was gonna say it's gonna be a little more back. [SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be a little more back as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's because Oh my god, is this lack of cards and there's one completely rotten stone card number [SPEAKER_02]: I wonder where it is. [SPEAKER_02]: I wonder who got, and it's like, you've deal them out. [SPEAKER_01]: I wonder who got it, the mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like blinding everyone.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it has to be a situation where it's like, everybody look under your seeds. [SPEAKER_02]: Someone has the property there. [SPEAKER_02]: It's true. [SPEAKER_02]: You get a mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: You get a mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: The other thing that I want to draw attention to before we really get into these moments because we both went chronologically here of times when Laura Lai uses the mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is a reference to the mom card that is made later in the series and that is a season five pulp friction. [SPEAKER_02]: So, worry is in college. [SPEAKER_02]: This is when she's dating. [SPEAKER_02]: What is it? [SPEAKER_02]: dating girl now. [SPEAKER_02]: Boralai and Luke are just getting back together and so he's kind of in this conversation with her.
[SPEAKER_02]: She's checking her phone and trying to be like, okay, she's on a date with this guy, Robert Gremaldi, but also she's dating Logan and like, you know, this is new territory for Lorealai and she's navigating it with Luke. [SPEAKER_02]: And so she says, you know, there have been very few times in our relationship where I ever played the mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: but I always had it there in my back pocket and when I used it she had to hear it and take it because she lived here and even if she didn't like it or even if she got mad the worst of what happened is she would run into her room and slam the door and blast the jam but then in the morning I controlled the bathroom and the pop tarts and she had to deal with me and eventually we'd make up and it was over but now and Luke says nothing's different and she says of course it is it's different she's on her own she's making her own decisions [SPEAKER_02]: My mom card is looking a little flimsyre, and I don't know how much to say to her if she doesn't want to hear it, she doesn't have to take it, she doesn't have to call or come home.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that is so telling, it is such a foreshadowing moment for when she plays the mom card at the end of season five, and worry does not come home. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, what's interesting about her explanation of the mom card there is that my mom card is quote unquote looking flimsyre. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that she's just feeling strongly disconnected from Marie because I don't think she has a played the mom card when she was living with her because she felt disconnected from her.
[SPEAKER_01]: If anything, it disconnected Roy further from her until Roy had to like, you know, use the bathroom. [SPEAKER_01]: Eat a pop tart, like they had to reconnect in some way, but I think that in season five when she's talking about it, she's like almost wanting to use the mom card to like. [SPEAKER_01]: make her talk to her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, she doesn't have to. [SPEAKER_01]: And it seems like a disconnected from a friend thing. [SPEAKER_01]: And so it's like she knows in her mind that she has this sort of like manipulative thing in her back pocket. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's what she's her mom. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, that it feels less like there's anything to use the mom card over at this point in the season.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have since moved on from the dean of it all. [SPEAKER_01]: And more that she just feels disconnected. [SPEAKER_01]: What is there to control about her life right now? [SPEAKER_02]: I agree with a star because I do think that her moving into this new territory of not just being dating girl, but also her lifestyle with Logan and falling in with his crowd is something Lauraly really does not like.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, the last time she used the quote-unquote mom card at the end of season four beginning of season five with everything with Dean, Roy shut her out. [SPEAKER_02]: until she didn't, but Roy shut her out for an entire summer. [SPEAKER_02]: They went months without talking to each other, which is so interesting once we do finally get to the end of season five in the beginning of season six when they're not speaking to each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like such a rift even though they've actually been through this before just in a very and seemingly much more benign way. [SPEAKER_02]: We're just not witnessing it in real time. [SPEAKER_02]: We're witnessing it in real time in season six. [SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that she's realizing that that situation could have resulted in what ends up happening in season six.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And she doesn't want it to. [SPEAKER_02]: So I think there's a fear there. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: She's not only feeling, I do agree with you that she's feeling a little disconnected, but I think that she is now scared to play this like I'm your mother and I know what's best for you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Angle because she tried to do that with Dean and it backfired on her. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I also think that it's just like so mother of like a young adult that like you have to let them make their own mistakes and it's really hard for her because she feels like her mistakes are happening because worry is falling in with people that Laura likes hates doesn't know but hates because of where they're from and who their families are and so it's like she I don't think can honestly justify using the mom card other than she just feels uncomfortable [SPEAKER_01]: which is like the perfect time not to because you have to let them grow, you have to let them make their mistakes, but she just doesn't like being not in the know, she doesn't like being not in the group chat between the two of them, you know, like she wants their rings connected, she wants to be in the know, and so she's like maybe I could play my mom card and I can know everything, but you know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that it gets a lot more complicated, of course, as she gets older. [SPEAKER_02]: And as she gains independence, you know, she's she's not, you know, clinging to her side the way that she was almost like a toddler going to school for the first time at the beginning of season four when she goes to college and she's like, I need my mommy and I don't care who knows it.
[SPEAKER_02]: She's now acclimated. [SPEAKER_02]: She's made friends. [SPEAKER_02]: She's falling in with a different crowd. [SPEAKER_02]: She say that when she's with Sherry, the hospital. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she does. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: She says something similar. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I shouldn't blame you. [SPEAKER_01]: I should hate you. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, let's rewind a little bit and talk about the times when Laura Light did use the mom card, which she kind of references in this retrospect and in this fear and insecurity to Luke in season five.
[SPEAKER_02]: What is the first moment that you have after the pilot were Laura Light placed the mom card? [SPEAKER_01]: The first notable one, I don't know if it's necessarily like the first time afterwards, that felt as intense as Chilton was Madeleine in the Wies. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I've felt like the same level.
[SPEAKER_02]: How do you feel about the end of Rory's dance? [SPEAKER_02]: Do you feel like that was Rory playing the mom card? [SPEAKER_01]: No, I think that was Rory playing the fear card. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that the Uno reverse of the Rory card of her serving it back to her was more impactful, but like I don't necessarily see it as being the mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, just the language she's using, you know, Rory comes in after Emily and Laura Leigh have words. [SPEAKER_02]: And of course, we know that Emily's fight with Laura Leigh and what she said to her gets to Laura Leigh enough that Laura Leigh turns around and throws it back at me. [SPEAKER_02]: She's just going to be, you know, honestly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, but she's scolding her and that's kind of where I feel like it's mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: She says, what were you thinking staying out out all night? [SPEAKER_02]: Are you insane? [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_02]: It was an accident. [SPEAKER_02]: You're talking to the queen of staying out all night.
[SPEAKER_02]: I invented the concept. [SPEAKER_02]: This is no accident. [SPEAKER_02]: You can't do this period. [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing happened. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you have any idea what it's like to wake up with my mother here and find out that you never came home? [SPEAKER_02]: Worries. [SPEAKER_02]: So this is all about grandma being here.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Lauraly says, no, it's about the feeling of complete terror when your [SPEAKER_02]: To me feels like mom. [SPEAKER_02]: She goes and then it's about a whole different kind of terror when you find out that she spent the night with some guy I didn't spend the night with him. [SPEAKER_02]: We fell asleep.
[SPEAKER_02]: You are going on the pill. [SPEAKER_02]: You are not getting pregnant. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that feels That feels it feels like mom, but I feel like mom card has to have an action attached to it [SPEAKER_01]: Like, in the way that she's, she plays the mom card, I don't know that she is stepping into her role as the mom is that what we're defining mom card as is just her stepping up to that sort of relinquishing all-friend vibes, I guess, the feeling of being her friend, and she is only her mom here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think that it was just like the fight that she had was too tied to her own, like emotions, the situation, and like projecting too much of her own experience with her own mom here. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know if she was playing any sort of mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, her saying that like that can't happen again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, for sure. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it seems like Roy is very aware of that. [SPEAKER_01]: But then when Roy turns it around is like, you're just, you're just mad that [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: To have such like a quick summary of the reason behind why that happened feels like is she playing the mom card or is she just very upset?
[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: Like what is what is the purpose of the mom card here other than to just be mad? [SPEAKER_02]: So then how would you, because I agree with you about concert interruptus. [SPEAKER_02]: That was the first one I put and then I put a worry stance because I wasn't sure where that would fall.
[SPEAKER_02]: How would you compare that then to concert interruptus? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I have double date and Madeleine Louise with concert interruptus because she rose to the occasion of being a mom next to Mrs. Kim instead of like being worries friend and like I'm sure we think's fine or like covering for her like she backed up and she was like, okay, where to moms head into the movies like I'm not going to lie to Mrs. Kim like which [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't in the next episode, she's totally okay with, but at this point, she wants to play the mom card, which is stepping up to the occasion and like an action following it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think with Madden Louise, she feels the need to keep them safe. [SPEAKER_01]: And so she is going to go door to door to door, until she finds these girls, drags them out of this party, Loyalai, Miss Skellarmor. [SPEAKER_01]: That was where it was like, oh, oh, she's a mom. [SPEAKER_01]: She's a mom.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's got her mom based on. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that like that's the difference is like she's upset that this has happened, but she goes out and she takes action against it. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that maybe if Laura Lai had left the house in Roy's dance and gone maybe looking for her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that she was too upset necessarily to be playing any sort of mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: For me, it was you are going [SPEAKER_02]: Which like did she? [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: I imagine not. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that that paired with the way that she approaches the conversation with Dean in forgiveness and stuff in the next episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: And also the way that she's kind of approaching her relationship with Rory up until everything happens with Richard. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: I do feel like that is kind of mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: But do you think that that is because of Rory and being Rory's mom? [SPEAKER_01]: Or is it because she is Emily's daughter?
[SPEAKER_01]: And so now she's projecting this on to Rory. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's definitely a lot of projection. [SPEAKER_02]: But I do think that her being like you are going on the pill. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a fun mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that it was followed through on admittedly. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that I don't think it was either.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was born out of fear, the implementation of it might not have happened, but it definitely exists there. [SPEAKER_01]: It was it was thrown around, but like she was she was starting a lot of stuff around that lower lie. [SPEAKER_01]: Just her mom card was included. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I, of course, also include a double date, which is before concert interrupt us. [SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, we talked about that a lot last episode. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think we need to rehash it. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that she, but there are a lot of people who feel like she maybe needed to play the mom card more in that episode and we can talk about that towards the end.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that she definitely plays the mom card in that episode because of because of the conversation she has with worry at the end of the episode and then what she goes on to relay to Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like she has to override a desire of worry and like in some instances like mat on the waist of just a teenager of the kid by playing the mom card.
[SPEAKER_01]: She it's like you put your card down and now you have to draw for like no no options. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's you have to skip all of your next turns. [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's that's just the way of the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's why the Lori's dance is a little bit more complicated because there's not a lot of like I guess follow through on it but like with double date whatever Lori had agreed to whatever Lori thought she was doing it didn't matter what mattered was what Mrs. Kim wanted and so that's what they acted on when it came to talking to Dean when he came to the window that was less so her being Lori's friend and she was being her mom.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure. [SPEAKER_01]: It was just playing it with Dean. [SPEAKER_01]: I guess. [SPEAKER_01]: I guess. [SPEAKER_01]: That's rare. [SPEAKER_01]: That's rare. [SPEAKER_01]: We've played the mom guard with Dean. [SPEAKER_02]: The next one I have is in the road trip to Harvard. [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't have that written down.
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the only reason why I did is because they're sitting upstairs in this room that they hate at the Teshire Cadden. [SPEAKER_02]: And Rory is like, let's talk about Max. [SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, no, I don't want to talk about Max. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to talk about it at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're going back and forth and Lorela says, I've earned the right to not be quizzed about my social life by my 16 year old daughter. [SPEAKER_02]: And Lorela says, I thought I was your best friend. [SPEAKER_02]: And Lorela says, when we're out of YouTube concert, you are my best friend.
[SPEAKER_02]: But right now you are my 16 year old daughter, and I'm telling you, I do not want to have this conversation. [SPEAKER_02]: That's it. [SPEAKER_02]: That's the mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: And the thing is is that I was, I kept hearing this line over and over again in my head. [SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that this was in secrets and loans, which is the next time I have my list.
[SPEAKER_02]: You too. [SPEAKER_02]: No, that's not in this episode and then I was like, oh, this is in the word from my Harvard because she does not want to speak by max Yeah, and like two Rory's credit. [SPEAKER_01]: They did leave in the middle of the night Right now I'm like girl [SPEAKER_01]: You pulled my bed in the middle of the night and was like, let's go.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought it was your best friend to take me. [SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I thought it was the girl that came with you to this place because you are not getting married anymore. [SPEAKER_01]: So, best friend, daughter, I'm your writer, die. [SPEAKER_01]: Talk to me. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just the girl that's with you right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Give me an ounce of context, but 100%. [SPEAKER_01]: When she says that, I'm also like, yeah, it's because Marie has questions for Laura like they'll Laura like can't answer to. [SPEAKER_01]: And so it's like, I'm not about to do this with you. [SPEAKER_01]: So, that's the thing. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, you can't believe I didn't write that one down.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's a big mom card play. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a big mom man Like when we're at it when we're in this circumstance, you are my best friend when we're in this circumstance You're my daughter and I was like, oh Yeah, my mom card so as I mentioned the next one I have a secrets and loans and yeah, I know you do too This is a big one hard one is it?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard in the sense that like well, it's very it's very straightforward mom card [SPEAKER_01]: it's not difficult. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not complicated. [SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not complex. [SPEAKER_01]: It's mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: It's hard because it's like road trip to Harvard where you're like, Rory is maybe the one who's like doing what is right here, but again, who do we need to listen to when we're 16 years old and our mother is in charge of doing this?
[SPEAKER_01]: Our mom, but it is a moment where I'm like, [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we were like, we were like, we're, we're, yeah, and maybe Laura like would have come to that conclusion on her own. [SPEAKER_02]: She's just so stubborn. [SPEAKER_01]: But just to refer to the girl's memories. [SPEAKER_01]: Turmides.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: And Kirk assesses the damage. [SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, for some reason, we believe him. [SPEAKER_01]: We just really believe him. [SPEAKER_01]: We believe this man. [SPEAKER_01]: And then it's Luke is a second opinion to be fair. [SPEAKER_01]: The diner owner is the second opinion on the Turmides.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's really handy. [SPEAKER_01]: we don't have any like an exterminator in this town in this tiny town. [SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: It's got the local loco loon and the local diner owner. [SPEAKER_01]: And the other one's assessing termites. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's gonna be a lot of money regardless.
[SPEAKER_02]: 15,000 dollars and so worry says we could go to no, it's on option. [SPEAKER_02]: She says going to my parents is an on option. [SPEAKER_02]: And they go to Fred and I dinner and worry disappears her mom and she just goes ahead and says it. [SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, could be a lot. [SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, could be a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, talking about it right now, when you said not to. [SPEAKER_02]: And Laura is pissed, like wouldn't speak to her in the car, wouldn't look at her. [SPEAKER_02]: And she says, I told you that going to my parents was not an option, and this is after where he has followed her upstairs, she's like worried, don't want to talk to you right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Go, get out, go to bed. [SPEAKER_02]: She keeps yelling her to go to bed, and that's such a mom thing. [SPEAKER_02]: Go to bed. [SPEAKER_02]: And so she says I told you that going to my parents was not an option. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, but there are no buts. [SPEAKER_02]: There will not be buts here.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's I'm sorry mom. [SPEAKER_02]: There's I screwed up mom. [SPEAKER_02]: There's I'll never do it again mom. [SPEAKER_02]: But there are no buts out. [SPEAKER_02]: Go to bed. [SPEAKER_02]: We're done. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Ooh. [SPEAKER_02]: And then later, when Laura, like, reluctantly ends up getting the loan because Emily co-signed it with her, they're at the pep rally.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is when Lane is a cheerleader for one of those and they're talking about it. [SPEAKER_02]: And she says, we got the loan to Rory and Rory's like, listen, you know, I didn't mean anything by it and Laura lies continuing to defend herself. [SPEAKER_02]: She said, Rory, do you have you ever been without food or clothes or books or book covers for that matter?
[SPEAKER_02]: Anything else you ever needed? [SPEAKER_02]: No, and see the reason for that is me. [SPEAKER_02]: I have a pretty good track record for keeping you alive, so when I tell you I can handle something you need to respect that, especially since you have no evidence proving I won't understand.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is so, my word. [SPEAKER_01]: Can I ask you, mom card, like a mom card situation here, where we went against it, and because it wasn't an option, do you think that eventually, Laura, I would have been like, okay, in order to keep Ruth over daughter head, must go to mom, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think eventually I just don't know how long you want to take it or she would have taken Luke up on his offer. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: I we said this in our coverage. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that we talked about this more might have talked about this in Gilmore if I said it, but I know we talked about this in in the Overwatch Club that I was like, why would you not take this?
[SPEAKER_02]: Take it. [SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to go to your mom. [SPEAKER_02]: You have too much pride. [SPEAKER_02]: Take it from from Luke. [SPEAKER_02]: This is like the best you're going to get. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think I would have too much. [SPEAKER_01]: I think I'd have less pride to take it from my parents.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then I would take it from Luke. [SPEAKER_01]: I think I'd be too proud to take it from Luke. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm not too proud later. [SPEAKER_02]: But it's more over that it's like you're offering to do the work. [SPEAKER_02]: Get some guys in here do this and I can slowly pay you as this happens.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like that to me cuts out the middle man. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: Woman, if you will. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I guess Luke is technically the middle man, but he's also doing the work, so it's like, I'm paying you directly, can I pay you an installments?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like he's doing the work along with some guys. [SPEAKER_02]: So I always disagree. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that Laura lives being way too stubborn in this episode, but she is, but she has a favorite right to be. [SPEAKER_02]: Does he want to have the mom card in her pile? [SPEAKER_02]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't. [SPEAKER_02]: But if we ever get more a year in the life for more Gilmore girls, I wonder if she would be like that. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna play the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I wonder if they're in this pack of like cards that we're inventing if there could be a Rory card.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what it would do, like shut you down, but like I don't think I can shut down the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: It can't super seat it. [SPEAKER_01]: But I just wonder if you miss your next turn or something. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Because like the Rory card is not employed very often, but I do think she used it in Rory stands totally.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's like, you're using that for the wrong reasons, and you know it. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's why it's complicated to me [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's usually is something prideful for, for, for Lorelei, but she is recognizing this is heading in the wrong direction. [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think that she thought Lorelei was heading in the wrong direction in, uh, Lorei stance.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was just, of the circumstances of her mom being there. [SPEAKER_02]: So, when we were back, she's kind of like, that wasn't used for the wrong reasons, by, well, I think that we all are curious what would have happened, had Lorelei not been woken up by Emily, would worry of just run home, snuck in, pretended, I mean, she couldn't [SPEAKER_02]: Patty called.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, she could have pretended for Emily and that too mattered. [SPEAKER_01]: If Laura liked to find out through Patty, I think Laura would have been like, oh, we fell asleep. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you fell asleep at the dance studio. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think she would have been like, oh, you fell asleep.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you did something wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: You need to be on the pill. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it would have been silly. [SPEAKER_01]: How how funny. [SPEAKER_01]: She trusts her. [SPEAKER_01]: She trusts that Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: I think she would have been mad. [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think she would have been that bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_01]: I think she would have been, we talked about this when we didn't watch club. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think so too. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, the rewatch club was because of secrets in the home, the all. [SPEAKER_01]: Because we were like, do we want to rewatch that episode and see if we felt the same?
[SPEAKER_01]: And we, yeah, we love that episode. [SPEAKER_01]: No plot, just vibes, just drives, true. [SPEAKER_02]: Just mom cards, speaking of episodes we love. [SPEAKER_02]: The next one I have is a Tiska to task at. [SPEAKER_02]: which we talked about in the last episode. [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about last week.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Immortality is a Kim. [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, this is where I feel like Laura like you talked to you. [SPEAKER_02]: But this is where I feel like Laura like tries to play it cool with Bury and be a friend. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, hey, no, I'm Swiss babe. [SPEAKER_02]: Like everything's good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Until she kind of plays the mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: A little too close to the son like so close to the son that her mother agrees with her and then she's like, oh, wait, I gotta pull it back and then I think she finds a middle ground where she's just like, listen, I trust you this I do think that is parenting is being like, hey, I trust you a trust judgment.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really sorry that I tried to be your eyes or ears in your brain. [SPEAKER_02]: You're a person and you need to make your own choices that said I am concerned about Jess and these are my concerns and this is why you know, like I feel like she she kind of she didn't run it back to friend.
[SPEAKER_02]: but she kind of found the the pendulum swinging somewhere in between. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she tapped her mom card and it got declined. [SPEAKER_01]: It did get declined. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but she still wanted to use it, but like like you said she she used her mom card because of the sun.
[SPEAKER_01]: to close to the original mom, my gosh, that's so true. [SPEAKER_01]: Cause like Emily's mom card is a whole other story, is a whole other deck of cards. [SPEAKER_01]: Her mom card almost touched her mom's card, her mom's mom card, and like I think that there would have been her mom's mom card.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that if to, if your mom card touches your mom's mom card, there's just an explosion, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that would have been really bad for me to crash in the space time continuum or rip if you were absolutely especially in the Gilmour deck, if you will, so Gilmour deck of cards.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that is true. [SPEAKER_01]: She kind of ran it back on that one. [SPEAKER_01]: She was like, oops, sorry about doing that. [SPEAKER_01]: Which I don't know if that happens again. [SPEAKER_01]: Is there another moment where Boerlight tries to mom card her? [SPEAKER_01]: So the way that she did there, and then she's like, actually, you know what, I'm going to trust you a little bit more.
[SPEAKER_01]: I trust your judgment. [SPEAKER_01]: Pretend that plain to open. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so. [SPEAKER_02]: The only time that she kind of relinquishes it, I would not relinquishes. [SPEAKER_02]: I think like kind of pulls back is at the beginning of season five when she just wants. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's actually hard again.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but not because she realizes that she was maybe like not trusting her daughter's judgment. [SPEAKER_02]: Her daughter's judgment has completely gone away gone off the window. [SPEAKER_02]: She tries to tell her yeah, and she doesn't end up not speaking to her. [SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, where I come on, do you just want to talk?
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about that in a second. [SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, before we get there, the next one I have is lazy. [SPEAKER_02]: He's a crazy days of summer. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is only one that I put in like lightly. [SPEAKER_02]: And I wasn't entirely sure how to advertise this because I do think that this could come from a friend.
[SPEAKER_02]: Point of view, but I also think that Laura Lye when she finds out that Rory kissed Jassets hookees wedding, her being like, you have to tell Dean, you cannot do this anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: It's not like full-blown mom card, but it is kind of like, it's like not not giving if you don't tell him I will, just say that, but she's just like, no, I have to do this, it's our Dean.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of us will tell him. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I understand the impetus too, but I don't think that there's any required action or consequence from it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think that she takes control of the situation, which is more of what she does with the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that, oh my gosh, you guys, don't play a mom card drinking game at this game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let this episode rather. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that you guys would all be positively wasted at this point. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm sure. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure we said it. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think in this situation, if it could be coming from a friend, I didn't include it as a mom card option because like what is your friend going to do?
[SPEAKER_01]: Give you advice and then just kind of hope that you follow it and then kind of be there for the downfall of it and like the whatever happens is totally. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's kind of where like stepping fully away from friends into the mom card house to happen here. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I would say that to you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would hope Lane or someone in her life her Paris would say something like this to her. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or like they would be able to be like, I'm your mom. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, only one person can say that to her actually. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: This one was from our one of our besties, which really, really made me laugh and it's in let the games begin when they finally make it to Luke's after not being able to pull it closer to them while they're sitting on the haystack and they walk into Luke's and they said it two different [SPEAKER_02]: tables.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God. [SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, you need to come over here. [SPEAKER_02]: No, you come over here. [SPEAKER_02]: No, you come over here. [SPEAKER_02]: Why? [SPEAKER_02]: Because I'm the leader of the clan. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm so excited. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm the writer.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm a male. [SPEAKER_02]: And she gets up. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm the leader of the clan. [SPEAKER_02]: We, that's so favorite. [SPEAKER_02]: You said the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know what, I'm like trying to think of that now. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that I've actually stopped using that one between me and my mom.
[SPEAKER_01]: My mom will be like, come here. [SPEAKER_01]: Let me show you something. [SPEAKER_01]: Come here. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'll say, you come here. [SPEAKER_01]: You want to show me something. [SPEAKER_01]: And it should come to me that never would have happened as a child. [SPEAKER_01]: I always had to go to her But now I'm like, you're the one who wants to show me something.
[SPEAKER_01]: Get over here. [SPEAKER_01]: No, get over here That actually happened the other day. [SPEAKER_01]: She wanted to show me something on her phone. [SPEAKER_01]: It was like a picture of one of my nieces or nephews or something Now I have a haily card. [SPEAKER_01]: Wow. [SPEAKER_01]: It's more of just like I'm a person [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I feel like I've graduated from it a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, big deal. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I love that one. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you best of you. [SPEAKER_01]: Excellent. [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have that one, but I'm would have been sad to have missed it. [SPEAKER_01]: What's the next one on your list? [SPEAKER_01]: The next one on my list was actually one that I disagreed with that someone had.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is from a tale of Pozenfire, when Rory decides to go to Yale. [SPEAKER_01]: Or rather, when Lorelei outfits her room and Yale paraphernalia, and someone said that this was one of their favorite instances of Lorelei using the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: And I have to say that I think that this is one of the first instances of Lorelei encouraging Rory to use the Rory card.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because this was Rory's decision. [SPEAKER_01]: The pro-conless said Yale [SPEAKER_01]: was letting Rory kind of like make her own decisions here, was Lorelei, everyone was like, it's Harvard, it's Harvard, it's Harvard. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that this was like a moment of her stepping back because they had said Harvard for forever.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if it was what Lorelei wanted, she probably would have still picked Harvard, but like, once she realized how close it was. [SPEAKER_01]: I think she was like, actually, this might work in my favor. [SPEAKER_01]: But I do think this is like her stepping back from the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually think this was an actual like first instance of letting Rory [SPEAKER_01]: completely decide on her own and then just encouraging that it's okay to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: That like, she doesn't have to be a deciding factor in things, but she's going to be supportive. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I kind of what I meant in the beginning of like, the mom card does not exist when it's something that's really supportive. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, of course she's her mom, but that's more of like [SPEAKER_01]: their connection, they're like closeness, like the intimacy and a relationship with your mom, that feels more like friends.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so like when someone said that as a mom card, I was like, I like the idea of that being her mom that's helping her, but I don't think that's the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: To like my my next one is actually the not use of mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I totally understand why you feel that way because I think that, you know, we did that episode where we talk about the things that happened between Laura Limebury, where they're mother and daughter, and then where they're best friends.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I know that this episode can feel similar. [SPEAKER_02]: I've even applied that to some of the ones that have been on my list, but I think this is truly when Laura Lime is using, like you said, the mom card to control the situation and say, I am your mother and I know what's best for you.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is what's going to happen, [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, agree that that's a mom moment, but not the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: Not the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: And if anything, it's the mom card being like, you can decide for yourself. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking control of the situation being and letting you know that what you've decided is what you need to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that feels that feels too harsh to even apply to. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, even just thinking about the phrase going to Yale, like when you walk into that room makes you one of their crying excellent moment But someone had put that as like a mom card moment and I was like no. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I understood another moment in three No, I just immediately moved to in the clamor in the clanger.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: What did you have? [SPEAKER_01]: Did you have anything before I didn't put the clamor in the clanger? [SPEAKER_02]: I just put Laura like hauling Mrs. Kim when laying goes to CBGBs and then oh [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we talked about it last week, you know, we don't really need to touch on it anymore.
[SPEAKER_02]: But when, you know, Roy calls her mom and she's like, hey, you know, Lane stuck out. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, bye. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm calling Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I had that, but I thought that it was in that episode. [SPEAKER_02]: I missed. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, it's just like telling I'm pissed as hell at her.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that is her being a mom. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's not her being. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess I could say that to my friend. [SPEAKER_02]: I guess I would say that to you. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I have to call [SPEAKER_02]: You know, we she would be also kind of like the sister, but it's not not like that is mom card That is I'm calling another mom because if you if I woke up and you were not in bed again We covered that yeah, I would be so scared.
[SPEAKER_02]: I need to call Mrs. Kim, you know, yes [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, no. [SPEAKER_01]: For some reason, there's like a series of episodes in season four when it's winter that I get confused at which one is the gestory line and I know when you're talking about it's this episode, it's a family matter, it's like that gest cluster, it's that gester of winter.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like forget which the sequences, so when you said in the claim about the claimer, I was like she didn't have anything to do with gest, and so I forgot to see me do you, because I wrote that down, but I was [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have it from that episode. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, be it to the big one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's not supposed to be like that. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not supposed to be the big one. [SPEAKER_01]: I was going to tell you. [SPEAKER_01]: Tiny-wise, it's the big moment. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a big mom-card play. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that we've been kind of talking about this whole episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the question is, with the mom-card, as we've talked about it, thus far, it's more of took control of the situation. [SPEAKER_01]: Now, here we have reached a situation in which Lorelei cannot control what it's just occurred. [SPEAKER_01]: No worries, out of control. [SPEAKER_01]: Lorelei's actually out of control, but the moment has already occurred.
[SPEAKER_01]: We are only finding out about it and we being Lorelei. [SPEAKER_01]: How would you apply the mom card to something that has already happened? [SPEAKER_01]: Like in this instance. [SPEAKER_01]: like with the with worry stance, she can kind of control the result of it because she's still living at home, you know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_01]: With this one, it felt like she tried several different tactics. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's the thing, is that a lot of people put down that it was season four episode 22 and I don't think Laura live plays the mom card until season five episode one. [SPEAKER_01]: interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: See, this is this is what I was talking about earlier when I feel like she's started to play the mom card of the like I didn't raise you to be like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like maybe there was going to come something was going to come from it. [SPEAKER_01]: But in the middle of it, she switched tactics. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, heres worry walks away and starts being her friend again. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because she's like I don't know what to do here. [SPEAKER_01]: I think she's in too much shock that like it starts off very much motherly like of that like how is she going to play the mom card?
[SPEAKER_01]: You cannot see Dean again like this is not going to happen like none of that comes from it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just trying to explain to her the severity of the situation and then she flips because where he starts freaking out obviously. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, because where he's giving her so much pushback.
[SPEAKER_01]: So she starts to be friendly again. [SPEAKER_02]: It's more over that she wants to approach it from this. [SPEAKER_02]: It, again, all of these things are very motherly in their approach. [SPEAKER_02]: When she says to her, I didn't raise you to be like this. [SPEAKER_02]: That is kind of mom card, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's mom card because you feel like something's going to come from it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but it's not until season five episode one when Rory shows up to the end after the night that they've had. [SPEAKER_02]: And she said, oh, you're here. [SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, Rory, let's talk.
[SPEAKER_02]: and she's like, I don't want to talk to you. [SPEAKER_02]: So she's trying the friend approach, friend approach isn't working and she's like, okay, bye. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's not until Emily shows up and she's like, you said that this included lunch with you and Rory and she's like, yeah, but then you left.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not until then that Laura like calls Rory. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, I need you to get back here right now and grandma left. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, I know, but you need to get back here right now. [SPEAKER_02]: So she gets her back and she essentially [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that that's like maybe the longest play of the mom card because it like starts with the information, it starts with the disappointment.
[SPEAKER_01]: More like doesn't know how to take control of the situation. [SPEAKER_01]: She's presented with an option to literally remove her from the country. [SPEAKER_01]: And she said, it has been presented. [SPEAKER_01]: It has been given to me by, and now I'm gonna take it. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Ciao. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm worries like, okay, so this is what's gonna happen. [SPEAKER_02]: I mess up and then you ship me off to Europe. [SPEAKER_02]: Girl, grow up. [SPEAKER_02]: I should get you off anywhere. [SPEAKER_02]: You seem to want to go and then but then she actually seems disappointed that she wants to go She's like you want to go and she's like well, I guess so I guess I'm going and Laura like does shift again.
[SPEAKER_02]: She does shift tactics when you know they're at the airport. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, hey, got everything you need $20 good [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like she's trying, she's still trying, but throughout the entire duration of the summer, she lets her do her thing. [SPEAKER_02]: She lets her be off on her own and not as, um, like, not digging her heels in the same way that she does in the next season, but this is a precursor.
[SPEAKER_02]: She's waiting for Lori to come back to her and realize that she messes up, which she does in the second episode. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's quite good, though. [SPEAKER_01]: I much to maybe this being a hot take controversial opinion. [SPEAKER_01]: I like when Laura let's already take her time to come back to her because I think that she forced her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who is that going to help? [SPEAKER_01]: Truly who is that going to help? [SPEAKER_01]: And so like they called, they called Laura live throughout the summer at the almost at the request of Emily it seemed like and then when she finally, when they finally be connected, they were okay. [SPEAKER_01]: And it was Lori that did it.
[SPEAKER_01]: She said, I'm sorry, Mom. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And then probably why she knows it's going to work. [SPEAKER_01]: That was it. [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing bad happened ever again. [SPEAKER_02]: Well we have to talk about the big one because the second big one. [SPEAKER_02]: The biggest one I'd say.
[SPEAKER_01]: The bigger one. [SPEAKER_02]: The bigger one. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's in season five episode 22. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Where do you feel like lower life plays her mom card here? [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that she's playing her mom card well in this. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously she doesn't because she doesn't get control of the situation.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's very similar to that of the Dean cheating situation because she's hearing this, like it's washing over her. [SPEAKER_01]: She's having to react in real time to this, like, absolutely off the wall wild occurrence. [SPEAKER_01]: But this one, she feels like she can save it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The other one, the act is occurred. [SPEAKER_01]: It's happened. [SPEAKER_01]: She can't do this at all. [SPEAKER_01]: The dean has been done. [SPEAKER_02]: I said the deed has been done and it kind of sounded like he said the deed has been done and I was like I never ever thought it. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I almost said it. [SPEAKER_01]: I almost said the deed has been done so that's what I'm done with the Dean quite some time ago Yeah, but I feel like it's a similar thing here where she it's like a situation where she is approaching it from multiple different perspectives [SPEAKER_01]: of her friend, of here her out, of wow, this is crazy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm going to play the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like how she kind of switches back and forth, but ultimately she leaves her with, I'm kind of cutting you off if you don't adhere to what I have said, you can't come back here. [SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to like put surround stars hollow like what is your plan.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can't come here without a plan. [SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I think it's like a very, very interesting use of the mom card because she she just start quite friendly like I feel like the way that they get it where he gets a little bit insulting and it they get you know it get they get into it, but her getting up and giving her ultimately an ultimatum here is I think the weirdest use of the mom card if I'm being honest.
[SPEAKER_02]: But you'd think that it starts with the conversation that they have outside Westerns. [SPEAKER_02]: Or do you think that it does not start? [SPEAKER_02]: Her use of the mom card does not start until she goes to her parents. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it begins because I don't remember exactly what she says, but she tells her she can't come back to star's hollow to basically do nothing, like is that kind of her plan?
[SPEAKER_02]: And she doesn't seem to have one, but I think this is what she says, so what's the great master plan then, huh? [SPEAKER_02]: The great master plan, living your room, work part time at the bookstore, forget it, not an option, I'll figure it out. [SPEAKER_02]: And then, Laurel, I says, I'm not hungry, and yeah, and she gets up and walks away, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: it's not with that. [SPEAKER_01]: That she has two choices. [SPEAKER_01]: One, not come back here. [SPEAKER_01]: You can't come back here, or you go to school, seemingly at the end of this conversation. [SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing resolved, but I think that the mom card is. [SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to call it the mom card because it just feels like she's cutting her off completely at that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I think it's strange. [SPEAKER_01]: Because usually the mom card is stepping in to take control of the situation in some way. [SPEAKER_02]: with which I think she directly, yeah, with worry directly because I think she tries to take control of the situation which goes to her parents.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and that's why I think this is like the most interesting and weird use of it because she much like she did not want to do, she did not want to touch her mom card to her mom's mom card, you know, yeah, and maybe that's why things went wrong, you know, it blew a hole in the Gilmore, [SPEAKER_01]: Time continuum and that's why things didn't work out because she tried to mom card with her mom's mom card Close to the sun too close to the sun, but that was the that was the use of it is she needed back up to control this situation Because her alone was not going to do it and she knew that This is the first time that she was looking for backup for this and this is not happening I'll call you up Charlie.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not Davenport because Davenport they change his name [SPEAKER_02]: I think, oh, I'm torn because I do think that her saying not offer get it, not not not an option. [SPEAKER_02]: That is her putting her foot down. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but she really doubles down on the mom card by going to her parents.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the start of it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a makeup your mind to worry. [SPEAKER_02]: And then she placed the long game, because she's like, all right, you know what? [SPEAKER_02]: You made your bed, go lying the pool house. [SPEAKER_02]: I made your bed after you slept in with Dean.
[SPEAKER_02]: Go find it, different bed to happen. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that she placed the long game, because even when she hears from Richard that, he's like, it's not working. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, oh, interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: Where are you going to find? [SPEAKER_02]: But she still has confidence in her.
[SPEAKER_02]: in her daughter. [SPEAKER_02]: She's still like worry. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll go back when worry is ready and we will wait until she's ready and that is the plan. [SPEAKER_02]: She'll go back when she's ready. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's a it's maybe well maybe this is really the longest use of the mom card of like I am not going to budge.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm controlling the situation by not changing my mind. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm not coming to you and groveling to you over this bad decision that you have made. [SPEAKER_01]: I am staying exactly where I am. [SPEAKER_01]: Totally. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that it started at the lunch.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it started at the lunch because of Vory's reaction to it. [SPEAKER_01]: Marie saw her mom. [SPEAKER_01]: She wasn't going to move. [SPEAKER_01]: She was trying to control it in her own way. [SPEAKER_01]: And last time she went away with a Europe with her grandmother when things, when the go-and-get's hard, the rich kid hot rock misogies, as Finn says.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like this is that version of like, when the go-and-get's hard, I'm just gonna go find my grandma on. [SPEAKER_01]: She's gonna be, she's gonna be fine. [SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I turned that one's her grandpa. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, what supersedes the mom card? [SPEAKER_01]: The grandpa card?
[SPEAKER_01]: The grandpa card? [SPEAKER_00]: You know, grandma card, she tried to do. [SPEAKER_02]: She circumvented the mom card and went straight to the grandparents. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, the wild card is richer. [SPEAKER_01]: Wild card, that's the draw four. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the draw four.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, I'm really excited for this game we're playing with great games and this fake game made up game that we're playing. [SPEAKER_02]: That, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So, those are times that we feel like Laura Lai used the mom card, but we also posted a question box of times when Laura Lai should have used the mom card.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the first one I want to bring up before we really get into what the best he said, kind of goes hand in hand with the episode that we had last week, which was talking about times when Laura Lai wanted to honor the mom code with Mrs. Kim. [SPEAKER_02]: and obviously we talked about their parenting tax ex, but we really zeroed in on double date and we're scratching our heads over Laura like kind of picking and choosing when she wanted to be loyal to the mom code with Mrs. Kim.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, concert interruptus is one of those moments where I'm just like, I don't know, I'm not saying she should have used the mom card, but she's like, I can't lie to another mother. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but with concert interruptus, she wanted Lane. [SPEAKER_02]: to come to the concert and when Lane comes clean to her mom and tells Rory where he says, she decided to be stupid and tell her mother the truth that she wanted to go to a rock concert with us tonight in New York and Loro like, go stupid and then Rory goes stupid and it's like, wait, what?
[SPEAKER_02]: The last episode, the very last episode right before this, she lied to her mom. [SPEAKER_01]: And well, I guess that [SPEAKER_01]: Laura like can't lie to another mother, but she would encourage lying on behalf of having fun. [SPEAKER_01]: If she knew about the lie, but was with your own mom, that's not her realm.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I just like, I'm trying to make sense. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, yeah, the mental gymnastics there. [SPEAKER_01]: It's actually mental gymnastics. [SPEAKER_01]: Mental by canes brings trying to, you know. [SPEAKER_01]: So that was my honorable mention because I was like, what would she have done?
[SPEAKER_01]: What would be the bomb card in that situation? [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the thing is, is that like, you know, the mom card is it extended because we could talk about moments where Laura like, you know, uses the mom card with Lane, I mean when she's like, does your mom know where you are or like, call your mom please make sure your mom knows like when she takes Lane in and season four and is like, you know, hey, make sure your mom knows what you're doing where you are where you're staying.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that it's tough because like the mom card really, the the examples we use here with the exception of maybe Madeline and Louise are really just applicable to worry famously her mom famously her mom So I don't know how to answer that, but yeah, I guess maybe it would just be as simple as like, hey, you have to tell your mom are there Question I have for you instances that we have listed thus far where you think that Laura like should not have played the mom card [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe secrets and loans, but I think what she, I think that it drives the point home to worry that it's like, when I tell you I have something handled, I need you to trust me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Even if she does. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, but I, but that's really the only time that I think I'm like, but you really didn't have it covered. [SPEAKER_02]: You really didn't need to go into the band. [SPEAKER_02]: Portaloo. [SPEAKER_02]: It's handled. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Olivia Pope.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's handled. [SPEAKER_01]: It's handled. [SPEAKER_01]: God, what about you? [SPEAKER_01]: Can't tell you something very controversial. [SPEAKER_01]: Now I think. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and that's the end of the episode. [UNKNOWN]: Bye, everyone. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I think I'm a firm believer if she had not played the mom card when Rory was dropping out of Yale.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the things would have gone a lot more smoothly. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that if she had appealed to her emotionally and maybe not, maybe it doesn't even have to like be her bestie about it. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that she can kind of find that middle ground of like being supportive mom, being inquisitive friend.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that situation would have gone a lot better had she not put her foot down so hard, so fast in that situation. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually don't think [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: I I can agree with that. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's my only that's actually like maybe like the one of the biggest moments that everyone talked about in terms of the mom card of times she used it and I'm yeah I'm a little bit like hmm because I actually talked with Sarah Dustin about that like how she would handle that sort of situation.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she said, let her drop out because Sarah dropped out of her school that she was at went to a different one, gotten to writing that way. [SPEAKER_01]: So she was like, I'm kind of like a whatever is right for you and Ville right for you, might be exactly what that is. [SPEAKER_01]: So she's like, let her drop out.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I was kind of thinking about that from the perspective of like having a very supportive and [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just like a very supportive mom in that situation of like how would we have responded to someone really seeing her for how upset she was. [SPEAKER_01]: So upset that she's going to quit school if she if she would have had someone that wasn't just you're not going to drop out of school.
[SPEAKER_01]: You are not dropping out of school. [SPEAKER_02]: I get that. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we've talked about this. [SPEAKER_02]: I, I, I agree. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that that might have worked, but I don't know where is it. [SPEAKER_01]: But at the end of the day, she was in a state. [SPEAKER_01]: I will always say she just needed to talk to pepper in an app and she would have been at Yale later that night.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: It's true. [SPEAKER_02]: So some moments from the besties that love him peaked my interest. [SPEAKER_02]: Someone said that Laura, I should have played the mom card in the deer hunters and that she should have stood [SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, no. [SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, no. [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, he said that.
[SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Here's the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Here's the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, also, why? [SPEAKER_01]: Is it because he's like a figure of authority in her school? [SPEAKER_01]: And like, we need to honor that. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, their rule was dumb.
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, she got to an accident. [SPEAKER_01]: It was someone else's accident. [SPEAKER_01]: Famously a deer's accident, not her own, and then she got to school relatively on time. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I think there should be an an exception. [SPEAKER_01]: She got into an accident and we're supposed to just side with that man.
[SPEAKER_01]: That transatlantic accident, man. [SPEAKER_01]: That's sweet transatlantic accident, man. [SPEAKER_01]: That's sweet, man. [SPEAKER_02]: But what do you think? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, I'm torn. [SPEAKER_02]: Like I understand why maybe they they like that lens to the narrative that like worry deserves a pass and she special and and whatnot, but I don't I think you bring up the accident component is that's really like she didn't accident.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, was it her fault? [SPEAKER_02]: Definitely. [SPEAKER_02]: She shouldn't have stopped. [SPEAKER_02]: Why did she call Lane? [SPEAKER_02]: What was she going to do? [SPEAKER_02]: It was her fault because she stopped. [SPEAKER_02]: Why did you stop in the middle of this to call Lane and see if your her notes were at your your notes were at her house?
[SPEAKER_02]: Were you going to stop by and get them? [SPEAKER_02]: Were you going to read them as you drove? [SPEAKER_02]: Baby. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go. [SPEAKER_02]: You got places to be. [SPEAKER_01]: It was writers could always have come up with a better way. [SPEAKER_01]: I honestly think she could have just been driving in the deer, runs into her while she's driving.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is better that she stopped at the stop side. [SPEAKER_01]: It's way better that she stopped, but like, yeah, that's like the only reason. [SPEAKER_01]: Because if it was just that Rory was late and it was not like something completely out of her hands, I would see Laura Lysiding with her headmaster Charleston, totally, that QD man, you know, but I know.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, next one, when Jess crashes the car, [SPEAKER_01]: Well, she plays it with Luke. [SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna say, she plays the mom card with Luke, but not worried. [SPEAKER_01]: She actually plays it with everyone except for Jess. [SPEAKER_01]: Luke, the doctor. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, she tries to play with Jess, but like by playing it with Luke, Luke, uncle cards.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jess, it kicks him out. [SPEAKER_01]: It sends him back to his mom's. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean what are you going to do? [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's one of those perfect instances of like not needing to play it. [SPEAKER_01]: You gotten to a car accident. [SPEAKER_01]: You broke your arm.
[SPEAKER_01]: You knew this was wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm what's the result here. [SPEAKER_01]: Just was driving, dressed was driving your car and you got into an accident. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, she does kind of get on to her, but like worries like not having it. [SPEAKER_01]: Because that's when help wanted when they're at the she kind of explodes on the rely because everyone thinks that it's just as fall.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't another instance of it was an accident, and I think with Floor Lye, she is kind of, she's playing the reverse mom card of like, stand behind me. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to protect you. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to talk to you from this evil boy who crashed her car.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not like I'm going to control you in this situation. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I could see it, but like, ultimately I just don't think I would do. [SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think it serves a purpose. [SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_02]: When were I went to New York City and Mr. Graduation?
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's such a good scene though. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I like it the way that it played out. [SPEAKER_01]: I like it the way that it plays out. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, honestly, if we're being so for real, we're reached into Laura Lies wallet and took out the mom card and was hitting herself in the face with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And Laura Lies was like, that's not how it works. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't [SPEAKER_01]: You holding it doesn't do anything. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that actually worry was trying so hard to play the mom card on her cell. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm more like, actually, this moment's supposed to be about me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hello. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go. [SPEAKER_01]: Get some dinner. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Famously, I do need to feed you. [SPEAKER_01]: But boys like, I'll go to bed with no dinner and you're like, girl. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So, actually, I think that Roy agrees with you, Bastie, who's like, she does.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because she's so desperately once the mom card played against her, but she played the mom card on herself. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she did. [SPEAKER_02]: Kyle's party in season three. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, do I really worried and do anything wrong? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm actually trying to think of what the mom card incident is because ultimately worry and more like kind of mom lean, they go get her backpack for her.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then when she finds out that the fight was over, Dean and Jess, she kind of fakes her out with the mom card. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So this fence is broken because of you. [SPEAKER_02]: This crap is on the ground because of you. [SPEAKER_02]: What's your point?
[SPEAKER_02]: Did you have a no, it's so good. [SPEAKER_01]: It's so good. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that that perfect moment Maybe she should have mom cardered her a little sooner to get some more information from her Because later when they're in the car and she does find out about what like we're brings up Kyle's bedroom and more like Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait.
[SPEAKER_01]: Tell mommy what happened in Kyle's bedroom [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I think that maybe she could have pushed a little bit harder to be like, hey, a fight happened because of you care at the moment. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I think that maybe that could have gotten out a little bit sooner, but ultimately she does find out about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's true. [SPEAKER_01]: Now again, another moment where I like the way it played out, but maybe she could have showed up a little bit more about mom card sooner. [SPEAKER_02]: When we're restarted dating Dean in season five, [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_01]: That's like she was nerfed too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm a lot of times she tried to use her mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: See, this is the problem. [SPEAKER_01]: She got she became fearful of the mom card here with Dean. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Like being supportive of worry after the affair. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that you need to like cut her out of your life, but being supportive of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where it's all the line. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think that you can say, like, I'm not going to dissuade you from doing this, but like, I'm not going to be a part of it. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to go on double dates with you and your boyfriend. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to be accepting of this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if he comes over here, I will be nice to him, but like, I draw the line at being his friend. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think that there should have been a lot more personal boundaries for more life, but then it wouldn't be the show that we know and love where she's going to make every excuse in the book to be for his bestie.
[SPEAKER_01]: So. [SPEAKER_01]: Personally I agree. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree too. [SPEAKER_01]: We should have we should have gotten a whole pack. [SPEAKER_01]: You know how like with you know They have like a whole pack of just wild cards. [SPEAKER_01]: That's a moment where you just need a whole pack of mom cards And every time where you walk in the room.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I like this one. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's How are you supporting her? [SPEAKER_02]: I think she's just so if she doesn't want to lose her. [SPEAKER_02]: That's really what it is [SPEAKER_01]: But I asked you that like you were the one who was supporting her. [SPEAKER_01]: How could you support her?
[SPEAKER_01]: How could you do this, Tara? [SPEAKER_01]: How could you support her through this? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm really, I got really a huge story there. [SPEAKER_01]: You did. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, last one. [SPEAKER_02]: After the dinner with the Hansburgers. [SPEAKER_02]: What's the mom card that she can't see Logan?
[SPEAKER_02]: Hmm, moreover like really encouraging her, I guess, and not to see Logan. [SPEAKER_02]: Cause when you think about, but I'm a Gilmar afterwards, it's, you know, she calls her, and it's like, this happened, I don't know, it was awful, blah, blah, blah, and she's like, everything's fine, everything's fixed, we're good, when Logan shows up and she's like, okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what Logan says is so perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, his apology there, excellent. [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't, I think that I'm confused about what the mom card would be. [SPEAKER_01]: Cause the mom card is, she's stepping in [SPEAKER_01]: I think at this point, that's why she's afraid in, oh, what is it?
[SPEAKER_01]: Pulp friction? [SPEAKER_01]: She's like, how do I play the mom card without, without being like, distanced from her? [SPEAKER_01]: Right, without. [SPEAKER_01]: Because it's in the episode where she holds the pillow over her face. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: So that she doesn't say anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: She doesn't say anything. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think maybe that's what they're alluding to. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like you should have spoken up more about being like, I do not like this guy and I don't think he's right for you. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, she does kind of speak up in that conversation of like, I know you don't want to hear this, but yeah, like maybe this is not the right guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this is not the right relationship for you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: She like says as much as she feels like she can. [SPEAKER_01]: That's like the extent of playing the mom card until. [SPEAKER_01]: the Yale dropout really, but I imagine that came from someone whose team just, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't write down anybody's names or register voter register affiliations. [SPEAKER_01]: Your team affiliation. [SPEAKER_01]: You have to register with us. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's great. [SPEAKER_01]: And so when you submit a comment, we have to run you through the system to see if there's a bias. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I get it. [SPEAKER_01]: I understand why you would want to. [SPEAKER_01]: My mom definitely, she wouldn't play a mom card, but she'd be like, What?
[SPEAKER_01]: When my siblings would find out about this? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think that's the crazy thing about Rory. [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't have any siblings. [SPEAKER_01]: But like, if my siblings found out that I went to a dinner like this, they'd be like, fuck this guy. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually, to be fair, he was quite defensive, you know, but as we were reminded, by Mr. Luke Daines himself, Mr. Hippocrite himself, when you date someone, you date their family.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of going both ways. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of like backing up, but I think that the thing about the mom card is she's controlling the situation, and I think at this point in the relationship it would have been damaging. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's why.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, as an audience, we want one of the characters to step in when another character is doing something that they shouldn't be doing until they control of the narrative. [SPEAKER_00]: Totally. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think in terms of development of relationships and our lives, if your mom stepped in when you were dating someone who was like, actually pretty nice, but his family was fucking insane.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that you would, you'd want her to play the mom card in you. [SPEAKER_02]: Hmm, fair. [SPEAKER_01]: Unless it's like two years later and everything's gone shit and you're like, well, why [SPEAKER_01]: Well, if you knew, yeah, yeah, they're any others. [SPEAKER_01]: No, that's the mom card.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the mom card. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, we have got to meet this card game. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm so excited by it. [SPEAKER_01]: Even if it's just something that you and I get to play, we'll have to say. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll do next Mother's Day. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, we'll play the mom card game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that would be so much fun. [SPEAKER_01]: I just want to get the mom card because you can take [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Look out. [SPEAKER_01]: Look out for a card game soon for us in the next six to five years. [SPEAKER_01]: Six like five. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna take six to five years.
[SPEAKER_02]: You guys do that map. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Be waiting for ever. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, next week we have decided that we are going to do another script analysis at this time. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm so excited. [SPEAKER_01]: I know doing that with you. [SPEAKER_01]: I did too. [SPEAKER_01]: It's my favorite type of episode, like format for an episode that we've ever done.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I just can't wait to do it again. [SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of Daisy Explosions. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm more to say on that in the next episode.
