[SPEAKER_00]: Five, six, seven, eight. [SPEAKER_00]: Documentary. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about the upcoming Gilmourcle's documentary. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, everybody. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to Gilmour to say with Terran Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Terra. [SPEAKER_00]: This is Haley.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Terra. [SPEAKER_01]: We've got ourselves a Gilmore girl's documentary. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm so excited. [SPEAKER_01]: I do. [SPEAKER_01]: I do. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, can I be honest? [SPEAKER_01]: I was about to say I was so surprised, but I wasn't. [SPEAKER_01]: I was waiting for them to do this.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: They needed to. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it would have been such a misopportunity for them to not. [SPEAKER_00]: 100%. [SPEAKER_00]: And specifically one that is produced by Amy Sherman Paladino, because this one is like she and Dan are EPs on the project.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which I love, but it just makes sense that totally makes sense. [SPEAKER_00]: So in case you missed it, there is going to be a Gilmore Girls talking mentoring coming on an HBO Max, timeline release TBD, but they're working on it right now. [SPEAKER_00]: I am actually going to make some point next year, maybe around the same time, because Lauren and Amy are attached to this, that they release their book.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that would be like a little companion to the documentary. [SPEAKER_01]: That would be my dream. [SPEAKER_01]: What a perfect gamma to read, gamma to watch, companion moment for the two of us, you know, total shaking hands. [SPEAKER_01]: But it just said in the works at HBO Max, which is a WB streamer, so it makes sense that that would be connected.

[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing about having the WB connected to this is like how real are we going to get into the documentary? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not about it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like I am very curious to see what comes and you know We don't know much about it, but there are a few things that we know from the press release that came out was it August 5th at this was announced [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it was announced on August 5th.

[SPEAKER_00]: By the time this episode airs a few weeks removed, but we're talking about this within a couple of days and news breaking. [SPEAKER_00]: So a corny to variety, it says an official documentary about Gilmour Girls at the beloved seven season family dromity that premiered in 2000 is currently in production and set to debut on HBO Max.

[SPEAKER_00]: Per the official log line, the untitled film is told from the perspective of series creator, Amy Sherman Paladino, which just like made my heart so happy. [SPEAKER_00]: Alongside her husband, Executive Producer Daniel Paladino, and, quote, reveals how the show eclipse expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon by unpacking the unique Alchemy.

[SPEAKER_00]: of the creator's cast crew and collaborators, who I love in a liberation. [SPEAKER_00]: The film includes never-before-seen outtakes. [SPEAKER_00]: So, my heart behind the scenes footage and script pages, which we've been ripped out of. [SPEAKER_00]: To know, like things that have hit the cutting room floor.

[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I wonder if like the book and the documentary are companions because like of course seeing the script pages on the screen but like I'm going to pause I'm going to read I'm going to I'm going to analyze this but like to get it in like a book that would be that would be amazing.

[SPEAKER_01]: But everything about that sounds so, so much about the show itself, like behind the scenes, like there's some few bloopers out there about the show, which I would die to see, and maybe it's because they had do so many takes that maybe it wasn't quite that funny when people messed up. [SPEAKER_01]: They were like, come on, there's our 20th take.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: But the script, of course, definitely want to see those pages. [SPEAKER_01]: But I have to wonder if what they're going to expand on beyond [SPEAKER_00]: And to your point earlier about the WB, you know, obviously there was friction between the paladinos and the WB, which led to their departure at the end of season six and left us with a different mining team for season seven, which is why they criticize.

[SPEAKER_00]: So in that respect, I'm really curious to know what what they will and will not share because of course there is history there. [SPEAKER_00]: Both good. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, rather controversial. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: So I don't really know what exactly they're going to get into, but we wanted to talk a little bit today about what we hope they get into who we hope to see and we also put it out there to you guys what y'all hope to see and I'm really there are some questions that the best he's asked that had me like, oh, I love that love love that but just to also confirm for anybody who may be missed this article Lauren Graham will also be a part of this and I love that they announced Amy Dan Lauren like who

[SPEAKER_00]: That trio is just so rock solid, but also the director is someone that you've Seeing their work before so you're really excited about that as well. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Bonnie Cohen She was one of the directors on athlete A. [SPEAKER_01]: Did you watch that documentary? [SPEAKER_01]: It was a documentary about the US women's gymnastics team and the coach Yes, who I just like don't even want to say his name.

[SPEAKER_01]: No, but it was I I can't [SPEAKER_01]: but that was an HBO documentary and so it makes sense that they would probably pull someone who has worked with them before but it was an excellent documentary because I think that there was a couple on the subject matter but that was one of them that I really enjoyed and I wish I would have had time before this to go back and see her work and see kind of how this was presented because like [SPEAKER_01]: Very very different subject matter Gilmore girls versus that situation.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't imagine that it would be any way similar But it was more of like stylistically how they decided to present it So I was really excited to see her attached to it because it seemed like I don't know I just I just had what liked her work Previously it only ever seemed the one documentary I know that she has a whole host of them that she has done [SPEAKER_01]: She's been nominated for Emmys or A.M.E at the very least, and so I'm very interested to see what she pulls out of her subjects.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I will say that like I not like super familiar. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't watch Athlete A and I'm kind of scrolling through here what she's done just to see if there's anything else I've seen because I love a documentary, but I'm also still leaving her feeling on. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're documentary.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're documentary girls. [SPEAKER_00]: Documentary, if you will. [SPEAKER_01]: And like that's what I wonder what like the collaboration is between her HBO Max, Warner Brothers, like how this is all fit. [SPEAKER_01]: And like maybe they presented directors to her, maybe she found someone that she liked, how that all worked.

[SPEAKER_01]: I would like a documentary about the makings of the documentary as it turns out. [SPEAKER_01]: But I just keep doing documentaries. [SPEAKER_00]: I want a documentary about the makings of the documentary, making the documentary of the makings of the makings of the makings of the makings of the makings.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's like all I want. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like taking a photo in a mirror. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, that's exactly what I want this to be. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually just want to be there if you guys wouldn't mind just including me on I will go silent all the new meetings, but like I just want to know I won't share it I don't even I don't even have to get on my tell y'all.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course I've signed many an end you know you don't even know what I know [SPEAKER_01]: But it's just a matter of like I just want to know what the thought process was and I think it's because we just have like such a curiosity and affection for the show that we're just also interested but I'm very excited that it is a woman who is directing it [SPEAKER_01]: admittedly.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really excited to see what she pulls out of Amy and Dan, because I know that historically they like really being in charge of the narrative surrounding the conversation. [SPEAKER_01]: So, of course, as I said, give you the producers. [SPEAKER_01]: I imagine they have a lot of that, but how much of it is going to be [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't mean this to say that they're going to fake any of this, but how much of it it's going to be sort of a rewritten narrative to make it all seem really polished in like retrospect because like again, these are things that happened for Amy over 25 years ago.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And so like how much of it has become like ingrained sort of lore of like a polished retelling of something? [SPEAKER_01]: And how much of it is going to be like revealing new things, or like concisely saying things that we already know. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm very interested to see, and I feel like that is like the mark of a good director.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's like trying to figure out how to tell that story that a lot of people know and a new way. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's adding details. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's why they're probably including some things that have never been seen before. [SPEAKER_00]: Because of course, that's somewhere in the archives of Amy's mind of, [SPEAKER_00]: Amy's home where she maybe keeps old scripts or computer, where old scripts are stored.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm more footage that the WB has and so that's why I think this marriage of collaboration between the WB and Amy is going to be particularly spectacular because I do think that that is going to bring something unique that other people just can't produce. [SPEAKER_00]: You know. [SPEAKER_01]: And marriage was such an interesting term to use because as we've been talking about it, that's kind of how I've been thinking about the Paladino's and the WB.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's like imagine sort of like a fight that you had, maybe with an X that things went awry, but then later on you guys can maybe laugh about it about what happened. [SPEAKER_01]: Are we laughing? [SPEAKER_01]: I don't maybe, maybe not. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe no one's actually going to force.

[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll do it for the kids. [SPEAKER_00]: Come on, let's get to the kids. [SPEAKER_01]: And like we'll discuss how we broke up. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and like we'll both tell our sides of it or maybe we're only gonna tell one side. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know and of course We're talking about the season six to season seven departure.

[SPEAKER_01]: What the feelings around that were I would really If we're talking about things that we really want to see I would really love to see an honest conversation [SPEAKER_01]: about what caused the season six. [SPEAKER_01]: Departure the catalyst of it, of how that started, how the conversation started in the sense of like, okay, there's a very real possibility that the two of us will not be able to, the two of us being.

[SPEAKER_01]: I am Amy or Dan, and this is a two-inch T.O.B. [SPEAKER_01]: The P.E. [SPEAKER_00]: knows and the W.B. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or just between Amy and Dan, like this very real conversation that the two of us might not be a part of this show anymore that we put our blood sweat and tears into and to ink if you would like to add the actual medium here that like a really honest conversation about like backtracking to that, like what was that conversation between the two of y'all like to be like, yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: We will not stand for this and we are just going to depart. [SPEAKER_01]: We are going to part ways. [SPEAKER_01]: and how that's going to land in terms of like the WB's perspective of it is like is do they have enough emotional and creative license to have that conversation? [SPEAKER_01]: I would love it.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's honestly the number one thing that I want to hear because it's I don't think that we've ever had that in depth perspective and honestly what it was like knowing season seven was happening and then to come back and like the emotional impact of writing the revival. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not the critical impact, the emotional and creative impact that it took for them to rewrite.

[SPEAKER_01]: We're not rewrite, but re-inter that world. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: I do think, you know, a couple of things might be true. [SPEAKER_00]: There is a world where the WB is an entity because it is still intact, we'll have some rules against like, what they're willing to not be mean to us.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I also wonder it's like, how many of those individuals who make those decisions are still working at the WB? [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: And if they're not there, will the people who are currently working there understand that there is like this desire for people to know and therefore they're fine with them talking about it a little more openly.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I mean in the sense of, like, we got divorced so many years ago, we've made a project since then. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, let's just give it to you next. [SPEAKER_00]: And Lindsay Buckingham. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So doing a documentary together. [SPEAKER_00]: Are they?

[SPEAKER_00]: Really? [SPEAKER_01]: They are. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I read an article yesterday that Lindsay was like, yes, Steven and I talk all the time because of the documentary that's happening now. [SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, it's just me by, I've seen the videos. [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen the videos and we're staring at your soul.

[SPEAKER_01]: I saw him sing Silver Springs. [SPEAKER_01]: We've all seen it. [SPEAKER_01]: We've all watched it. [SPEAKER_01]: We've lived it even if we never. [SPEAKER_01]: You'll never get away there. [SPEAKER_00]: You're a son of a woman who loves you. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God, you. [SPEAKER_01]: So, good.

[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, now that you say that, I do think I did know that there was a documentary happen. [SPEAKER_00]: Because like, I saw the post yesterday. [SPEAKER_00]: I have him being like, yeah, we talk all the time now. [SPEAKER_00]: Because of the dark. [SPEAKER_00]: It can heal. [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I think the between two people is very different between a person and a studio, but there were people involved.

[SPEAKER_01]: And can I be honest? [SPEAKER_01]: I want perspectives from the people. [SPEAKER_00]: I want perspectives from the person who like maybe doesn't work. [SPEAKER_01]: There are anyone who's like, yeah, I like maybe in retrospect, like being like, I made a bad decision. [SPEAKER_01]: season seven suffered as a result of it.

[SPEAKER_01]: And can I be honest, not in a malicious way, would love to hear from someone from season seven. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it doesn't have to be David us, wrote them all because I know that he is not associating with this anymore, but like anyone, you know, anyone who was a part of it, like we're back around.

[SPEAKER_01]: Kishner, is that her last name? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Rebecca, Rebecca Kirsner, Rebecca Rand Kirsner, Rebecca, I almost called her Rebecca Anne, like full name, Rebecca Anne, get over it now, yeah Rebecca Kirsner, yeah Rebecca, I would love to hear from her because I knew that she wrote in Season 5 and just just something, like it's not even like a meacolpa situation where it's like, oh yeah, we sucked at this.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was just more so like I would love to know what like the pressure was like getting something like a six seasons of an Amy Sherman Paladino show. [SPEAKER_01]: and like what were we supposed to do with this. [SPEAKER_01]: But again, the thing of it is that this happened between you know like 23 to 30 years ago, depending on the moment that we're trying to discuss.

[SPEAKER_01]: So like whether or not we're actually going to have like the FBI [SPEAKER_01]: recorded documentation for moment, for beat, for beat, for what actually happened. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: And how much would the leave and remember? [SPEAKER_01]: Because one of my favorite things that happens in documentaries is when someone can't quite remember something and they're like, okay, well, here's an email you sent.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And now we read this and we're like, are here's an interview you did? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, or here's a clip, or here's this newspaper article about it. [SPEAKER_01]: Does that jog your memory? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I loved it. [SPEAKER_01]: I totally, totally.

[SPEAKER_00]: Something you brought up earlier when you were talking about Bonnie in her past projects and what was the documentary called SBA and you talking about how there were multiple documentaries that had also been made. [SPEAKER_00]: We definitely don't want to ignore the fact that though this is the first official and authorized Gilmore Girls documentary and actually mentions in the variety article at the end that there is of course as we've talked about because we were interviewed for an unauthorized unofficial Gilmore Girls documentary that was formerly called searching for stars hollow and is now called.

[SPEAKER_00]: during coffee talk fast. [SPEAKER_00]: So at the end of this variety article, it says, while the Warner Bros. production is the first authorized documentary in Bucklemore Girls, an unauthorized project called Drink Coffee Talk Fast was announced to be in the works in 2025 with Kelly Bishop, Jared Pettlecky, Chad Michael Murray, and more set for interviews.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we definitely don't want to ignore that part. [SPEAKER_00]: But oh, something that I think there was like some discourse online being people being like, oh, is the first one going to come out now? [SPEAKER_00]: I have watched so many documentaries about the same topic from different people's per view.

[SPEAKER_00]: So while I am very excited that this is one that Amy can talk about from her perspective with Dan, with Lauren, with the WB that's going to be a whole different beast than the one that's been in the works for the last couple of years. [SPEAKER_01]: And I also think it's just going to be completely different perspectives, completely different stories and reading through some of the comments about the announcement, whether it was on Lauren Graham, who like, she posted about it or on Gilmore Girls, like the official Instagram page, Deadline, et cetera.

[SPEAKER_01]: So many people did bring up the Ingon Paper documentary and we're like, okay, great. [SPEAKER_01]: even more documentaries to watch about my favorite thing and I think that's exciting because 100% if I was if I was um uh Kevin and Magna Ho working on this like my first response for them was like oh my gosh I can't believe that like this is happening but the other like after a little bit of reflection I'm like no this is so exciting yeah because it's just two versions or not even versions it's just two different parts of the story being told and [SPEAKER_01]: and I'm very excited to see like the like compare and contrast because I know that some people who are who've already done interviews for the unauthorized documentary are definitely going to be in the official documentary because it's like Kelly Bishop.

[SPEAKER_00]: She's not gonna not be in. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no way me one. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no way Amy's excluding Emily Gilmar, which, you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: We can ask her because we will be seeing her very soon, which is insane, but if you guys still want to come see us talk to Kelly Bishop on September 10th in Rock Cityville, Rockville City, Rockville Center.

[SPEAKER_01]: You almost got her. [SPEAKER_01]: I got some of the words completely right away. [SPEAKER_01]: You can still you can still go to our show notes and get some tickets But I really want to ask her about like her thoughts on it because I think that would be fun. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree But I just do think it's going to be like a matter of like comparing and trusting like what we're each director [SPEAKER_01]: able to get from the subjects what were they able to talk about like I think that with the official documentary there's going to be the sense of like the director has a plethora of knowledge from the paladinos and they're able to ask people about or like to jog people's memory in a very different way but I also think there's like a fun authenticity to like

[SPEAKER_01]: whether or not you actually remember this, like how much of it you do, just a commentary that's taking place, because I know they also included a lot of fans. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a podcast called Gammard to say that was included. [SPEAKER_01]: Gammard to that. [SPEAKER_01]: They also talked to Kevin T. Porter from Gilmore, guys.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really interested to see how many of the subjects will have crossover. [SPEAKER_01]: HBO Max wants to talk to Gammard to say podcast. [SPEAKER_01]: We are here. [SPEAKER_01]: We are young. [SPEAKER_01]: We will be here for a while. [SPEAKER_01]: Let us know. [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm just I'm really excited to see what the crossover is, who will be like this, it's not this first is that it's really just like how is this all going to shake out and what are the stories that are going to come out of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, we're all going to watch both. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's just be honest with ourselves right out the gate where we want to watch both and I at listen more Gilmore girls I think is what people want so it comes in this form we'll say you know we love it if it comes in this form of two documentaries in a book within the next year that's amazing spoiled we are which speaking of subjects in the documentary is there any one that you're like I want them to talk to this person [SPEAKER_01]: Please include this person in the Gomor girl's documentary.

[SPEAKER_00]: I would really love to hear from Alexis Bledal. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I know that she tends to shy away from the spotlight these days. [SPEAKER_00]: I know we got to see her last year at the Emmy Awards. [SPEAKER_00]: It would just be really wonderful to see her, but I really, really want to hear from most of McCarthy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my gosh, you're so right. [SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like, you know, she's just obviously blew up as an actress because she's so spectacular that she wasn't really able to be a massive part of a year in the life. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm so, so glad that they were able to include her in just the capacity that they had.

[SPEAKER_00]: It makes me cry every time. [SPEAKER_00]: When Laura likes it and she goes, [SPEAKER_00]: But I know that she hasn't really had, I mean, just because she's done. [SPEAKER_00]: She's been doing so much. [SPEAKER_00]: She's here there. [SPEAKER_00]: She's everywhere. [SPEAKER_00]: She's everywhere.

[SPEAKER_00]: But this is really what gave her her star. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that she, I mean, I don't know her personally. [SPEAKER_00]: But I would imagine that she would love to be a part of something like this and talking about her roots and the character of Suki and how it evolved. [SPEAKER_00]: I would be curious if they would include out sports scene, especially because Amy is at the home of this, I think they probably would.

[SPEAKER_00]: And she's just so wonderful to interview. [SPEAKER_00]: We had firsthand experience with I know. [SPEAKER_00]: She's still one of my favorite people that we interviewed. [SPEAKER_00]: We've talked to. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that what I like about Alex and what she could bring to it is she does have an affection for her role on that show, but well she didn't have on that show and I think that that really reflected in just a really short conversation that we had with her about Gilmore Girls that I would love to see her.

[SPEAKER_01]: I love her. [SPEAKER_01]: Especially after having watched Meazle, I'm like even bigger fan of her, so having her included. [SPEAKER_00]: I would love for Alex and Melissa to sit down together. [SPEAKER_00]: I know, the two suites. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the suites. [SPEAKER_01]: Is there anyone else?

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Alexis, I really hope that they can get. [SPEAKER_01]: And even if she's not like a huge part of it, given like whatever, you know, however she wants to present it, her, she likes her private life and love that for her. [SPEAKER_00]: But she did come out for, I think, the anniversary of the sister of the traveling pants.

[SPEAKER_00]: I believe she's still close with some of those her sisters and her sisterhood. [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, obviously she came out and did the amines with Lauren. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that there is a way to do it where she can still feel safe and kept like and keeping her boundary between her private life and her public life and still participate in the documentary.

[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that was great. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: And if she doesn't do it, blasting speed to her, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: We're not owed anything. [SPEAKER_00]: She can do exactly what she needs to do. [SPEAKER_00]: She spent years of her life talking about the show and she's going to reuse and she's given us so much.

[SPEAKER_01]: She'll be in the documentary no matter what. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I just really imagine like Lauren Graham, Alexis Woodell and Kelly Bishop all sitting together and like the three Gilmore girls just sitting all together. [SPEAKER_00]: I will be very poetic considering that 10 years ago was the release of the revival and she did a lot of interviews for that as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of press around to that, especially with the three of them sending together. [SPEAKER_00]: So it would be very poetic, it would be very special and lovely. [SPEAKER_00]: But you know, she is she is within her rights to make her own choices. [SPEAKER_00]: I would I would be surprised if she was asked and she turned it down, but again, totally her call.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know, well, [SPEAKER_00]: finger fingers crossed but yeah I would love that but Melissa is high on that list because I do feel like she was such an integral part of that show without being a Gilmore girl herself and it was kind of what launched her into my Gamali and then subsequently into the start on that she had now um yeah yeah god love that movie and i think that um it would be really cool because we haven't heard her currently talk a lot about Gilmore girls and it would be really special [SPEAKER_01]: On that list, on the opposite side of it, or the other side of the camera, I really, really, really hope that they include Kenny Ortega.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I would love that. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I would love that. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's more of the side of it that we talk more about in terms of who we want to hear from. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, at least on the podcast is because actors sometimes don't always remember everything that was going on 25 years ago, but I feel like something about being on the other side of it, the creative side of it.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot more. [SPEAKER_01]: memories, at least from what we've gathered, that I would really love to see what Kenny Ortega being a director, being a choreographer, at least in terms of like a dance marathon. [SPEAKER_01]: How that was, how that impacted him, or like what that relationship was like, what he remembers about it.

[SPEAKER_01]: And he thinks he's been, he's been disneed for quite some time. [SPEAKER_01]: high school musical, the descendants, like there's so much. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly exactly, but yeah, I would just love, I would love to hear from him as a director and I call him totally, totally agree. [SPEAKER_01]: And of course, I think like in terms of the executions that I would really love, it's just like a section on Ed Herman himself.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there's no, there was never any doubt in my mind that that would happen. [SPEAKER_01]: I imagine that this documentary is going to make me laugh. [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to make me gasp, and it's going to make me cry. [SPEAKER_01]: And I am excited to see, but I really want like a, you know, an Ed Herman dedication moment, and I know that they will.

[SPEAKER_01]: I know they will. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like on my, it's on my wish list. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think your wish list will be granted. [SPEAKER_00]: So moving into some of the questions from the besties, because it's actually goes hand in hand with someone I'd love to see talk about this.

[SPEAKER_00]: We put up a video of us interviewing the the girls the guys on the carpet of Paley fast from when we were there back in 2025 and said what do you want to see in the Go Mortals documentary like what questions you want to answer it and we got a lot of really good ones from our listeners from you guys so one of the ones that may be go, oh, I would really love to learn a little bit more about this because we have learned what we can in our own research and in some of the conversations we had with Grandly Phillips.

[SPEAKER_00]: But someone asked, how did Amy make the decision to have such customized, really unique music to a company emotional moments? [SPEAKER_00]: How did she find Sam Phillips did Amy and Sam decide together to thread the law lost singing throughout as a musical narrative or was the idea really credited to Sam alone applying her experience?

[SPEAKER_00]: And Sam Phillips is someone I would love to see, especially because of the way that was just released of Gilmore Girls music last year or the sometime this past year. [SPEAKER_00]: I think he was last year. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it was true. [SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see her talk about this.

[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like in terms of sections me a whole music. [SPEAKER_01]: I want greatly Philips. [SPEAKER_01]: I want Carol King. [SPEAKER_01]: I want Carol King. [SPEAKER_01]: And Sam Phillips. [SPEAKER_01]: And I would love to hear more about the Lala. [SPEAKER_01]: Because there's some, there's so much in the silence of Gilmore girls.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the way that the law laws and the instrumentals and sometimes the strum strums Those rums guide us through the show and how it's like created such like an iconic sound that you just hear those Law laws and you immediately know it's going to go. [SPEAKER_00]: And you're brought into a moment I think like [SPEAKER_00]: Music is is I mean they use it not to get like super deeper darker anything But like they use it for like Alzheimer's and dementia patients because it can evoke that feeling like it can really bring you back into the promises of your mind You're staying to evoke of feeling because music really sets with you and I do think that when it comes to Gilmore girls We could hear a specific set of law laws and put ourselves in a scene from the show

[SPEAKER_00]: like there's I remember the exact law laws that happened when in the season two finale when Roy turns and he's caught me caught to me I feel the enemy player. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm watching it over and over and over again. [SPEAKER_00]: One more time, but I can hear those lollas and I'm in, like, I can almost see it in my mind.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, cut to me in the nursing home. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, yeah, I think it's the same lollas in partings. [SPEAKER_01]: Is it not when Logan's leaving? [SPEAKER_01]: That might not be. [SPEAKER_00]: But that I can hear that. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, my mind. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't loop every time.

[SPEAKER_01]: but also the like scene in partings when more like just broke up with Luke and she's walking away in St. Philip's a St. Philip's. [SPEAKER_01]: That episode was brilliant. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd love for them to just talk about that. [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I want to come and tell them how much I love it.

[SPEAKER_00]: I also think like given everything that we're just breaking down right now. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, this needs to be a documentary series. [SPEAKER_00]: A documentary series. [SPEAKER_00]: A documentary series. [SPEAKER_00]: A documentary series. [SPEAKER_01]: One for every season that they were a part of.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah exactly, or they announced they're going to do a Christmas special and then an Emily and Richard prequel just got the olig day just I'm this is my wish. [SPEAKER_00]: I was making a wishless But here are some of the other questions that our besties asked one of these was I mean kind of goes hand in hand with what we were talking about earlier [SPEAKER_00]: Were there any early plotlines or ideas that hit the cutting room floor that would have changed the story or the dynamic between the Gilmore girls and I wonder if we're going to find that out via script pages via footage that was never put in via [SPEAKER_00]: Did they intend to make her a chronic cheater from the beginning?

[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, oh, oh, it's more of what are your thoughts on infidelity? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, but I will say some of the questions that we asked it felt really like, please answer to these plot lines, which I don't necessarily think this documentary is going to be, someone else, what is Luke smell like?

[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I don't think we'll be getting to that one. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we're going to be together. [SPEAKER_00]: Something makes me think. [SPEAKER_01]: but I don't think a lot of them are going to be about the content of the show in terms of like why did you guys decide to do this or unless it's like a huge something like why did you guys decide to break up Luke and Laura lie but I don't even think we're going to get into the nitty gritty that yeah I think it's going to be more of the broad strokes and the product of it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I, but I do think there might be things that like maybe going a little bit deeper into how the studio stepped in on things like that or gave notes like that, but after talking to John Stevens, it really made me realize that like all of these questions that we have of like, oh, why did this happen?

[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't seem like there was an alternative. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like this, this is what they decided. [SPEAKER_01]: And like maybe it was early in season four that they got that note, and they were like, okay, well, this is where we're going. [SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't an intention to go somewhere else.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that that's where we ended up going. [SPEAKER_01]: So it'd be really interested. [SPEAKER_01]: But to that of John Stevens, [SPEAKER_01]: I would really love for some of these writers to get back into a room, especially with the director of the documentary, and talk to each other because as we were talking to John Stephens, who he was one of the writers in Season 1 through 4, I've got more girls and we talked to him.

[SPEAKER_01]: And there was a couple of things that he mentioned that he didn't remember, but like, as we were talking, they were coming back to him. [SPEAKER_01]: And I would just love to have all of them sitting in a room reminiscing in such a way of like, oh do you remember this because John couldn't remember what they were calling Jess before they named him Jess they gave him like a silly name just referred to him and he couldn't remember what it was but I imagine if you got like five of them in a room like through Sheila in the room John Stevens Amy Dan put them together.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well he was in five. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I'm just imagining like, oh we called him this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And I would just love to see what would come of that, just like them all reminiscing together and just sort of reminding each other of like being in that space of what it was like to be in the writer's room, et cetera.

[SPEAKER_01]: But overall there was a lot of questions about specific plotlines, specific plot points. [SPEAKER_01]: Why did you do this? [SPEAKER_01]: What would have happened if? [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think we're going to get any of that. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that we will either. [SPEAKER_00]: I do think the plot point about Rory having sex for the first time was, is something that Amy has talked about it about.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I don't think that it's necessarily, that's why I chose this question, because I don't think it's necessarily too, like, out of nowhere that she wouldn't remember kind of the process of having to write that into her storyline, because she has talked about it before. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yeah, publicly.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's just more so I don't think that she had a reverse side of that. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh, I was going to do this, but I had to do this. [SPEAKER_01]: Because there's also some other stories that I imagine exist around that and why those things happened that's more than just from the studio that I feel like will come out as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I do agree with you that I think that this is going to focus way more on the production and the behind the scenes of creating Gilmore girls and less about the questions that people have around plot holes or storyline. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, a lot of those comments in the in our comments section.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, oh, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: The word we're going to get those answers. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't I don't think that would be answered, but it also like the impacts. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd like love. [SPEAKER_01]: So, said with love, said sparkly heart, sparkly heart, sparkly heart, all of that.

[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, sparkly heart, but like with nothing but love. [SPEAKER_00]: And I know, I say that as someone who's been like, if I ever get a chance to sit down with them, and I have one question to ask, you know, I said it to John Stevens, I'm like, do you happen to know? [SPEAKER_00]: about the Jess Mariana storyline.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I still think that there's room to have that conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know that it's going to happen in this documentary. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And I also don't know that there is an aunt. [SPEAKER_01]: I think I don't know there's an answer exists because it's like that was the example of like that was going to happen.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so there wasn't another option for it not to happen. [SPEAKER_01]: Like they didn't write it that way. [SPEAKER_01]: At least from his perspective. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: I do think that there could be a conversation around, like especially because Amy is the one who created these characters.

[SPEAKER_00]: Amy and Dan, but my imagine a lot of this came from Amy's brain. [SPEAKER_00]: She really, really loves my low and loved, it seemed the character I love to see him. [SPEAKER_00]: So I love that guy. [SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see him. [SPEAKER_00]: I do think though there could be room for a conversation of like, when you went into season three, and you were starting to break at least the first half of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: You knew that Jess and Lori were going to end up together in some capacity. [SPEAKER_00]: did you always see them breaking up by the end of the season before she went to college but she always going to go to college single you know maybe it's from the perspective of Lori's journey of Lori's character less so just character and like honestly it's served the plot well that they would break up anyway because he's going to go out to California yeah she might not know she might not have an answer she might not have a marriage might be like nah don't think that was ever an option I think that [SPEAKER_01]: that whole conversation of like what would have happened or like explaining the reverse side.

[SPEAKER_01]: I keep going to call it the universe, but that's wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like the flip side of if we hadn't gone in the distraction, like for example, with Jess with the back door pilot, you're opening yourself to so much criticism to of like a story that has already been written.

[SPEAKER_01]: to be like, oh, well, we would have done this thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I like that better. [SPEAKER_01]: And so like, I don't know how much like can of worms you want to open. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, also as a writer, I feel like if you're like, oh, this is what we would have done. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that you want to give away everything because like, of course it's going to be a completely different character, but it's like, okay, but I want to do that in a new project that I'm going to do.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not going to tell you about it now because like, I still have this idea. [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't do it, but it's in my little, little idea of mine palace. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to keep it for myself. [SPEAKER_01]: My idea of mind palace, really like that name for the brand. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm kind of speaking to that.

[SPEAKER_00]: One of the questions that was asked was in hindsight, would Amy or Dan, or both, have gone back and rewritten any part of the story differently. [SPEAKER_00]: And I would be curious to ask them that. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, are there any stories that you put out there that you were like, I kind of wish we had taken in the direction instead and hindsight?

[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the answer would be no, but really curious how they would feel especially in regards to Lane and Lane's storyline. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, as you were talking out, I'd be like, no, like, that's the part of the show. [SPEAKER_01]: And I still kind of feel that about Lane of, like, the more missing Lane storyline is a part of the culture and community of Gilmour Girls.

[SPEAKER_01]: So being like, we don't like that, banded together, arms, you know, like elbows linked marching for Lane and that's part of like the fandom of Gilmour Girls. [SPEAKER_01]: But there's the other on the flip side of it. [SPEAKER_01]: I would love to hear if this like but it's also like looking at a writer and being like justify this which I don't always love like that doesn't always feel right and that's not necessarily like the direction I want them to go in for that but I think is if you were asking me like as a writer I'd be like, well, that's what I decided and that's what we did.

[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: not sorry though because like you know some of the questions in actually wanting to stuck out to me in particular and I didn't write it down but someone asked like what was the backlash from worrying Dean's sleeping together at the end of season four like how did the audience feel about that and I predict the Amy's answer will be I have no idea [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's a good question, though, that I would love, is like, how aware were you of your audience's reaction?

[SPEAKER_01]: Because it was also the top ten thousand. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's a good question, though, that I would love, is like, how aware were you of your audience's reaction? [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was also the top ten thousand.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because it was also the top ten thousand. [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was also the top ten thousand. [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was also the top ten thousand. [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was the top ten thousand. [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was the top ten thousand. [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was the top ten thousand.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because it was the top ten thousand. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like I vaguely remember who's saying something to that effect. [SPEAKER_00]: I could be making that up. [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that for sure. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but I also would love them to like type deeper into that. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, any question that we've like had, I would love to kind of like have that like we're sitting down together, a director with the intent to pull more out of you is asking you that of like, [SPEAKER_01]: what was the audience's reaction?

[SPEAKER_01]: How in tuned were you going on message boards? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's sort of thing, totally. [SPEAKER_01]: Because you weren't getting it as timely, because that was actually a question we asked John Stevens of like, what is it like to right now in the age of Instagram of like, of course, his shows are going to come up on his explore page.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, how does that feel? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I imagine that's not a wonderful feeling to have, totally. [SPEAKER_01]: But I would be really curious too. [SPEAKER_00]: See how that exists, especially now as she's continuing writing in the age of social media. [SPEAKER_00]: And speaking of continuing writing, I think the biggest question on everybody's minds is will we get more real world goals?

[SPEAKER_01]: I would love for this to be a vehicle, for them to be like, we're doing a prequel, Emily and Richard Pequel, or Christmas special. [SPEAKER_01]: Our Christmas special, but I do think that they've missed the Christmas special, because it should have been this year on Friday. [SPEAKER_01]: Should have been on Friday.

[SPEAKER_01]: Friday and at Christmas dinner, Christmas is on Friday this year. [SPEAKER_00]: Christmas Eve, I believe we'll be next year, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So fair, that's so fair, so they could do next year. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got a lot to do, actually, they've got to write a book, they've got to write a book, they've got to write a book.

[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book.

[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book.

[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write a book. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got to write [SPEAKER_00]: Right, the Griffith sisters, the leaders' hits, or something, greatest hits. [SPEAKER_00]: The Griffith sisters' greatest hits by Jennifer Weiner. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, yes, yes.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So she's not like going on. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got a lot of space. [SPEAKER_01]: So if there is something, it's probably not a recent project, 28, 29, maybe 20, 30. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're totally, it's reaching out because they've got a lot going on. [SPEAKER_01]: And you can fit them.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think we'll talk about as, because they know that's the number one question on people's lines. [SPEAKER_00]: Will there be more Gilmore girls made? [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see what they say. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: I, one of the questions actually, I'm going to, like, paraphrase it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Was like, can you make a show that was like this? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, different. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I saw that question too. [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, yeah, honestly, could you? [SPEAKER_01]: Could you just like create this feeling that the show gave me in another show?

[SPEAKER_01]: So I have, like, more that I can love and appreciate. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that Amy could do another small town. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that what would be interesting is a Emily Prequole because it would be New England meets maize all. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, see that. [SPEAKER_01]: This is why, okay, we of course talked about this couple weeks go.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I, that's what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's that New England vibe that Gilmore Girls gets us with the time period and aesthetic of maize all. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, not even aesthetic, because that's like [SPEAKER_01]: Connecticut in the early 60s would be very different than New York City.

[SPEAKER_01]: Very different. [SPEAKER_00]: And especially with college kids. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that would be so good. [SPEAKER_01]: Please, please. [SPEAKER_01]: HBO Max, please, can we have an Emily and Richard Beakwell? [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's no way she hasn't heard the idea. [SPEAKER_01]: What if I said, please again?

[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I won't return. [SPEAKER_01]: Please. [UNKNOWN]: What's going to happen? [SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to happen. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, say that. [SPEAKER_00]: That's not fair and I manifest. [SPEAKER_00]: That's how we manifest. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to happen. [SPEAKER_00]: Is that going to happen?

[SPEAKER_01]: No, you have to believe in it. [SPEAKER_01]: No, you're right. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to happen. [SPEAKER_01]: And I have to have a very distinct reason as to why. [SPEAKER_01]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: But I do think they understand that there is a call for more Gilmore girls.

[SPEAKER_00]: However, [SPEAKER_00]: what their answer to that could be is this documentary is the book that Amy and Lauren are writing they're like we're not going to produce more because we feel like the story is where it is. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that's how they feel. [SPEAKER_00]: I imagine we'll find out when we get the documentary when we get the movie but they know that the want and the desire is there but here's the thing is that there are times when we should leave well enough alone.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think that's why there was a lot of disappointment in a year in the life because people were like well this doesn't feel the same like yeah because it's not the same like this show took place in the early 2000s and it was a very different time and it had very different resources and it wasn't a you know for many movies and it just 2016 yeah it's just different and sometimes when it comes to revivals it does sometimes lose that shininess in that magic because also you're not watching at the same time in your life that you make no more girls and [SPEAKER_00]: It also sounds different.

[SPEAKER_01]: Gaines of shininess that didn't have because I think what was so magical about Gilmore Rose, which a lot of the documentary is about, is that no one knew what this was going to be. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we talked about a lot of it with John Stevens that like it was primed to be like a bingeable.

[SPEAKER_01]: like the name of all, yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: But it was never intended. [SPEAKER_01]: Those weren't the intentions behind making those choices. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just, that's why it is lived on as long as it has and why people are like give us more. [SPEAKER_01]: And what a beautiful, beautiful compliment and problem for Amy Sherman Paladino to have to have this like beloved show and everyone's like give us more.

[SPEAKER_01]: I fucking [SPEAKER_01]: And to be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, I have a rapid fan base who only wants more for me. [SPEAKER_01]: Why not? [SPEAKER_01]: Why not? [SPEAKER_01]: Why not give the people what they want. [SPEAKER_01]: We the people. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that it could go either way.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think they like, this is me giving you more because I don't want to, I don't want to taint the magic and a bottle that we captured. [SPEAKER_00]: And at the same time, I want to be able to offer you more and hear us more. [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see. [SPEAKER_01]: I will say the response to more has never been no.

[SPEAKER_00]: We know it's never been no. [SPEAKER_00]: It's always been like at the when there's more story to tell. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll tell it's the right time. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm intrigued. [SPEAKER_01]: We would love to feed them right time. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it will be. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this is the video goal that they're using and they'll be like, we're going to do the documentary and then we're going to make more.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see. [SPEAKER_01]: And the meantime, we'll send over a wishlist to Bonnie Cohen. [SPEAKER_01]: I would love to talk to her admittedly. [SPEAKER_00]: I'd really like to see. [SPEAKER_00]: I know, which you, you know, maybe we can have a conversation with her and talk about what we can expect.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because we just were kind of hypothesizing, but it's really hard for us to know what to expect [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be able to have a conversation with her about what she looks like with love, with love, love, love. [SPEAKER_01]: We great. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd also love to hear about her relationship with Gilmore Girls.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I meant to bring up earlier. [SPEAKER_01]: That is what I want to know. [SPEAKER_01]: I want to know if she's coming at this from a purely like third-party perspective, third-party wait on the center of the director. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Or if she has been impacted by it the way we all have.

[SPEAKER_01]: Agreed. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm really excited either way. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: As we know more details, we'll definitely share them with you guys. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it will also come out on the internet, but when there's more to know, when there's more to know, we'll be more to say.

[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, it's funny. [SPEAKER_00]: We were actually going to do a GTC about money and about some of the other things that we talked about this month, because that's what we do at our end of the month or wound up. [SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to do that on Thursday and we'll have more to say on that in the next episode.
