[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, what's in the home system podcast? [SPEAKER_01]: My name is Rohan and use usual. [SPEAKER_01]: I am joined by Brent Phil. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, buddy. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Mike, how are you doing? [SPEAKER_01]: Good. [SPEAKER_01]: And as usual, this episode is brought to you by I'm just a cloud by Navocatsa.

[SPEAKER_01]: If you've ever tried to set up a remote access the hard way, dynamic DNS, reverse proxy, self-signed search, Navocatsa's the easy button. [SPEAKER_01]: Sign up, flip-a-switch.com. [SPEAKER_01]: You can access your home system instance from anywhere. [SPEAKER_01]: What's more, you'll get secure, opposite backups, voice control, and the Amazon Echo or Google Home devices, and the ability to supercharge your DIY voice assistant.

[SPEAKER_01]: And here's the part we love. [SPEAKER_01]: Your subscription pays to developers behind home assistant, ESP Home, and the Open Home Foundation. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the best few dollars a month you'll spend on in this maroon. [SPEAKER_01]: Start your 31-day trial today, just open your home assistant settings, go to the cloud page or sign up at knucklecast.com.

[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put the link in the description for you. [SPEAKER_01]: This episode is also sponsored by our friends at Apollo Automation, makers have open-tours smart home sensors built for the home assistant ecosystem. [SPEAKER_01]: They're an official open home foundation commercial partner, and their devices are built with local control, privacy, and reliability in mind.

[SPEAKER_01]: almost everything they offer is works with homelessness and made for ESP Home Certified, giving you full control and flexibility right at the box. [SPEAKER_01]: The best part is that they have building the open, working directly with the community to create sensors that people actually need.

[SPEAKER_01]: If you're deep into homelessness or just getting started, definitely check them out at a [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be talking 26.8 today. [SPEAKER_00]: Before we do a couple of things, we want to get to first of all, Keren reached out to us back from episode 89. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to have back into the archives and listen to that episode, do check it out was a great one.

[SPEAKER_00]: Since he was last on the episode, his reach out was falling up from the 26.7 episode, but we mentioned there was a home, this is meetup in Sydney. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's a move from Sydney to Perth, so if you live in or are just passing through the Western Australian South West such as the Baselton and Margaret River regions and retirement assistant and other similar technology, the South West Tech meetup has started running every six weeks or so in Baselton and they'll love you for you to come out through and join them for a chat.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can find the schedules and the details at the link in our shunners, which will put up on HMS.fm slash H8245. [SPEAKER_01]: It's perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, bunch of folks will go there. [SPEAKER_01]: Smart things API. [SPEAKER_01]: The Samsung is ending very access to smart things API in October this year, 2026.

[SPEAKER_01]: And basically, they're going to be starting a 499-in-a-month individual developer plan and new commercial tiers as well. [SPEAKER_01]: So the fee applies to the Direct API users and third-party platforms like Home Assistant, meaning if you're using that integration for some stuff and I know a bunch of people do, that means you're going to have to start paying $400 a month for it, which is not great.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is, yeah, one of those most cloud strikes again, things, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Where you've sort of locked yourself in, if you have locked yourself into that smart things ecosystem and you're leveraging smart things as a bridge into some Zigbee devices. [SPEAKER_00]: I think you were doing that when you first started with home as you sent around, yeah, you just think it's a bridge, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Now to get access to your own devices through that your own hardware that's running in your home, [SPEAKER_00]: This is one of the sole reasons for using home visits and keeping it all local, keeping it all under your control. [SPEAKER_00]: I think the writing has been a reward for this.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I also feel like at this point, it's like given that, it's like, okay, five bucks a month versus, you know, getting a either USB dongle for, um, [SPEAKER_01]: Zigbee is the way radios or, again, home assistant makes our novel class attack. [SPEAKER_01]: We make some really cool hardware for it.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's, to me, it's more worth it to do that. [SPEAKER_01]: Have that one time cost and, and you don't use that through the, through the years. [SPEAKER_01]: Rather than having a pay five bucks a month and then channeling it through there. [SPEAKER_01]: And, [SPEAKER_01]: You know, sometimes you might, if you're, if you're doing this, you might be at an impasse of writing, okay, well, now do I think smart things or do I pick home the system, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, obviously do what's best for you for your home. [SPEAKER_01]: Personally, I think home assistance the answer, just because it's free at the end of the day, and if I ever didn't want to connect it to anything else, I don't have to pay those fees. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I think that that's kind of, [SPEAKER_01]: I don't love that they're charging that for the APIs, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, even with Homelessism, if you didn't want to pay for an avocadosa subscription, don't. [SPEAKER_01]: All right, obviously we like it, we subscribe. [SPEAKER_01]: We, you know, fill your idea. [SPEAKER_01]: And we think that, you know, that's kind of the way to go and offers a lot of value.

[SPEAKER_01]: But sure, if you don't see that, you don't have to do it. [SPEAKER_01]: You still have access to the APIs. [SPEAKER_01]: You still have access to connect in your Amazon at closing Google homes and all that stuff without having to go through this doesn't make any easier. [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.

[SPEAKER_01]: But again, there's no, you're not forced into a subscription, [SPEAKER_01]: if you want to break out of this marketing ecosystem, you are. [SPEAKER_01]: So that I don't love. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess the silver lining to this is they could have it's sort of charging that five dollars a month.

[SPEAKER_00]: They could have just said, you know what? [SPEAKER_00]: We're closing down the API completely and you have, because we're putting up that wall and you have to stay within [SPEAKER_00]: So, if there is, as I said, I still have a line into this, it is that it is not completely gone. [SPEAKER_00]: I just, the father...

[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like as a smart phone platform, that's also your kind of shoot in yourself in a foot, if you close your APIs, because it kind of defeats the purpose, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, to some extent, I see why like a device manufacturer or something like that would do.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't agree with it. [SPEAKER_01]: but I could see it, but your whole, the point of your whole thing is integration. [SPEAKER_01]: So like, I think so, I think that would be kind of silly for them to shut down their API perspective. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't love, you're right, it could have been worse, but I still don't love where it went.

[SPEAKER_01]: Again, especially for something that's been free for years, I mean, I think when I moved to [SPEAKER_01]: right using the bridge. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's not that they haven't had that API for forever or so on. [SPEAKER_00]: If these are local devices, there's no reason that I should have to go up to the Samsung's cloud to get access to those devices if they're sitting in my house.

[SPEAKER_00]: Fair enough. [SPEAKER_00]: That could be a local API on the Samsung box. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just sitting in my house. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that could be an alternative. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's like, [SPEAKER_01]: You care, it's not hitting our servers, we don't really care. [SPEAKER_01]: Here's a direct way to do it, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Alright, getting into some other feedback this month on YouTube, Sabadeep said I have a proof vision wall socket, stand and charger for my toothbrush, which is controlled by a sewn-off ZB mini L2 smart switch module. [SPEAKER_00]: When the toothbrush is low as a low battery, I just hit an Akara Zigbee button mounted underneath.

[SPEAKER_00]: This then leaves the toothbrush on charge for approximately 12 hours which is usually enough to fully charge it and then it will switch that off [SPEAKER_00]: I imagine with Bluetooth one, you could automate the Zaby, even further and do a way with the button. [SPEAKER_00]: This is a great little automation for charging batteries at work and you don't want to leave them on charge.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do something similar with my e-bike. [SPEAKER_00]: So I have a smart socket on my e-bike charger. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't like the idea of living it. [SPEAKER_00]: on charge for too long, especially once it's fully charged. [SPEAKER_00]: So once I've got it as a piece of smart switch on it, once that detects that the e-bike is charged, like the voltage drops or the power usage drops on it, I then turn that smart switch off and cut power to the e-bike.

[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I think yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do the same thing for my snowblower batteries and just same brand I use very long more in snowblower, so it's the same set of batteries, but I do the same thing for those batteries do I have a smart switch there and same thing if measure is the voltage drop and once I start seeing that it's not really charging I turn it off, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: So there's an automation that turns it off [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's actually a great tool to automate to 70% so that's great. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, enhancement might be just, you know, measure the voltage there and you don't even do a depressing button that just turns off automatically.

[SPEAKER_01]: Tencheon says, I have an idea of matter over thread 15 leak sensors and almost 20 light bulbs and some buttons that I've been using for more than three months and not a single drop yet. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll work perfectly and perfectly fine using home system. [SPEAKER_01]: That's actually really cool.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's a good to know because again, I know IKEA's quality has been, you know, it's great when it works and when it does it, it's not great. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it does the, like again, I've had their G U 10 bulbs in my range hood and it's like, I've gone through a few of them, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Like way more than I've gone through any other types of light bulbs.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they have, I don't, at least in what I've seen a far smaller, a far shorter light span compared to a lot of the other smart bulbs and stuff that I've used. [SPEAKER_01]: And to reset it, [SPEAKER_01]: do something weird, or so to reset it, you have to turn it off and on like six times or something like that, you have to go out and put it up.

[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, but my, my, my button on my range, it's been broken. [SPEAKER_01]: So I have to manually like twist, twist, twist, twist, twist, and it's like, and it's like, it's something like, how many, how many they do? [SPEAKER_01]: They've five [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so it's good to know that, you know, especially with this many devices and it's all working great to thank you for that feedback.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the matter of a thread stuff, I still haven't started a better network yet. [SPEAKER_00]: That's my next, one of my, much to do with somehow, but yeah, I could know that those leak sensors matter of a thread, I do need some new leak sensors. [SPEAKER_00]: I've had a whole bunch of a car, Zigbee ones, such as randomly we'll drop off the Zigbee network, and then have to repair them, yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it is if the battery just runs out and they just get marked as unavailable or what it is and for water licences I rather have something that's rock solid. [SPEAKER_00]: So if these like any of ones are cheap enough, maybe that's something you'll look at. [SPEAKER_01]: I've actually found that my battery automation still [SPEAKER_01]: trigger as well as I thought they did, and maybe it's because the drop off might be like pretty severe at the end there, so it's like, you know, I typically have them, I think notifying me at 5% or something like that to replace the battery, so I might have to bump that up to like 10.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because again, as we're moving all this stuff, I was actually looking the other day. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think one of my five or six leak sensors are working, and I was like, I should probably do better with that kind of piece of purpose, not going wood likely I haven't had anything. [SPEAKER_01]: So, it's, yeah, so I'll have to see that.

[SPEAKER_01]: Any suggestions I'm open to? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, give you a couple. [SPEAKER_00]: I have random, as I web utilizes, it just report 100% battery all the time. [SPEAKER_00]: Even when they don't have any battery left. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a great hacks component batteries, battery level plus and battery plus.

[SPEAKER_00]: What that does is it will not only record [SPEAKER_00]: a battery level event as another battery sensor, it will also check when that device last reported into home mysticism. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you've got a water leak said so, particularly battery devices will wake up once in a 12 24 hours to report their status on the network.

[SPEAKER_00]: battery plus will monitor and if it hasn't heard from that device for I think you can figure if I haven't heard from this device for two days assume the battery is dead and it will re-raise. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's a repair but it will re-raise a notification or you can configure a customer notification for yourself to say hey this device has dropped off.

[SPEAKER_00]: Have a look at it. [SPEAKER_01]: Interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: So does it replace battery notes as well? [SPEAKER_01]: The other ones are used to use that to [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I think battery notice is separate. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'm getting confused now. [SPEAKER_00]: Now you've got me thinking I'm going to let's You know, let's do it live.

[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see it in battery now. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm guessing what you're saying. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's battery plus. [SPEAKER_00]: So let me have a quick look. [SPEAKER_00]: So I have a whole bunch of these. [SPEAKER_00]: The device is not reported battery for level 14 days. [SPEAKER_00]: Here we go.

[SPEAKER_01]: No, it is part of battery notes. [SPEAKER_00]: So notification automations are battery low, replaced and not reported are all exposed via events and actions. [SPEAKER_00]: Using those, you can create your own automations to generate notifications or other actions. [SPEAKER_00]: And there are some predefined ones from the community.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that's all from battery notes by... [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't been doing that in a while. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there you go. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's perfect. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's exactly what you need to just get that from hacks and you're sorted. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That's perfect.

[SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I think I think I'll have to have a look at what it offers again because clearly I I've been using battery industry years that I've never noticed that so that's what all right. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on to some new features 2026.8 [SPEAKER_00]: This is something, the first one we've got and is that a big one moving forward for new users coming to homelessness as from today.

[SPEAKER_00]: Something that we talked about when homeless announced their public roadmap on GitHub is port 8123 the magic port of 8123. [SPEAKER_00]: Well no longer be the default for home assistant OS installations moving forward. [SPEAKER_00]: That port will now be port 80. [SPEAKER_00]: This means that new users who install home assistant OS from today can go to home assistant.local in Nebrother instead of having to go to home assistant.local colon 8123.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the goal is to remove the magic number from that onboarding experience. [SPEAKER_00]: So some things to know, this applies only to home assistant OS installs only. [SPEAKER_00]: It does not apply to home assistant container installations. [SPEAKER_00]: If you are already a home assistant user, chances are if you listen to this podcast, you are a home assistant user already.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're home assistant installation, no matter if you're already on OS or container, or if you are, it will stay on port 8123. [SPEAKER_00]: Her mission container and Docker Rensdolls will not be affected. [SPEAKER_00]: existing users, if you don't, if you do want to move away from port 8123 and have that port 8 experience, you can change the port number in the user interface, where the settings have now moved.

[SPEAKER_00]: So previously configuration for things like port numbers, host names and proxies as a certificate, we're done via YAML, this is now being to the UI and there's a broken change we'll mention later. [SPEAKER_00]: If you try and update your port number from say 8123 to port 80 in the UI and it doesn't work for whatever reason perhaps you haven't configured your container to port forward correctly a failsafe rollback does exist so if you change the port and don't confirm access within a few minutes [SPEAKER_00]: Home Mrs. will roll back to the previous HDB port.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going from 8123 to 880 and you don't access home Mrs. on port 80, 8123 will roll back. [SPEAKER_00]: So you can then get back into the interface. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, this is, um, a little bit of a, like 8123 is always. [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's kind of a nostalgic. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, you, yeah, and you're telling me, sorry, like, okay, you don't understand the style.

[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hm. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think it makes more sense doing it on port 80, rellinate 1, 2, 3, but and again, the big thing where wood matters on the container installs and stuff, which is not affected here. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's to that kind of like to. [SPEAKER_01]: But I totally agree with the change with that said.

[SPEAKER_01]: But [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and like you said, go, if you want to change it or whatever, and if you'd like that nostalgia of eight, one do three, go and gear install and change it to a one, two, three, and you can do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true. [SPEAKER_01]: You kind of touch the list as well so the HTTP servers settings are now configurable by the UI.

[SPEAKER_01]: So the settings that move dirt things like port config, SSL or TLS settings, reverse proxy settings. [SPEAKER_01]: These all used to be manually done by a YAML, so that's one more thing that's now taken out of the YAML that you don't need to have in there. [SPEAKER_00]: And in theory, when you boot up 2026.8, they should move.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you have a minimal, they will move over to the UI. [SPEAKER_00]: And then you can update your Yamaha also and remove them out of Yamaha. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, they'll get imported automatically. [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_00]: Some more changes under the hood being introduced.

[SPEAKER_00]: The words advanced, expert, and developer, those words are being reduced throughout the interface of home assistant. [SPEAKER_00]: So home assistant is removing or renaming on language that implies a feature is only for technical users. [SPEAKER_00]: So developer tools is being renamed, because these tools are useful for everyone, not only developers.

[SPEAKER_00]: Advanced options have been renamed in places where the actions are not really advanced, such as restarting her assistant. [SPEAKER_00]: around 43 places have been changed in this release and I suspect as releases go on throughout the year or more of these little touch points will be updated.

[SPEAKER_00]: Some wording remains where mirrors terminology used by a device manufacturer to avoid confusing people who are following vendor documentation. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you're following a documentation, it says you need to update an advanced setting somewhere, that will also still be reflected in home assistant as an advanced [SPEAKER_00]: setting or configuration.

[SPEAKER_01]: Make sense. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if this doesn't clear to change at the end of the day, a home assistant cloud settings page redesign. [SPEAKER_01]: So before it was a big long page with a bunch of toggles, now it's got more and a clear clearly defined sections like remote access, cloud backup, just voices system set up, and then Google Assistant and Amazon Echo and a set up [SPEAKER_01]: And if you've never done it before, there's also a guided set of experience now, which is nice because, you know, why not.

[SPEAKER_01]: The Wizard's always nice with them clicking a bunch of random buttons and figuring it out. [SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, that's nice. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, a few releases ago home assistant started introducing or changing the structure of entity IDs being named in home assistant, a new system-wide entity ID format is now being setting now exists.

[SPEAKER_00]: So you can customize how home assistant will generate entity IDs behind the device. [SPEAKER_00]: So you can decide the order of components, for example, you may [SPEAKER_00]: floor or area prefix before the device name or the entity name, perhaps you prefer in a complete opposite order.

[SPEAKER_00]: It will only affect new entity IDs and your existing entity IDs are not automatically changed. [SPEAKER_00]: If you reset an entity ID it will use the new format though. [SPEAKER_00]: Some integrations such as NQTT may set their own entity ID format and won't be affected by this setting.

[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, run, I do, I, I appreciate the ability for people to customize this. [SPEAKER_00]: I know, uh, entity ID naming can be very, uh, personal, uh, like everyone has their own flavor to that. [SPEAKER_00]: So, I appreciate that this can now be customized, uh, on a global scale. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, to like a little bit of criticism here, I wish this was introduced with that global change because now it's, you know, you had the original way of naming it and then there's a new way of naming it and now there's a new customizable way of naming it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but at the same time, it's like, yeah, I wish all of those were done kind of out once. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's one change into how your your stuff looks and then you don't have to start customizing again and then you don't have like this mixed okay, you're these are old and the ideas they ran this way.

[SPEAKER_01]: these are new ones and, you know, it's, if either manual were to, you know, update these, or it's something, you know, you have two different formats, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Potentially, if you, if you have a preferred way. [SPEAKER_01]: And so, I think, yeah, I wish it wasn't, again, love, love the feature, just wish it was brought in at the same time as the other changes.

[SPEAKER_00]: That makes sense. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can see that. [SPEAKER_01]: All right, so new automation triggers and conditions, so vibration and mood. [SPEAKER_01]: So we now have support for vibration sensors. [SPEAKER_01]: So if for example, if you put a vibration sensor on a washing machine, which I actually had done, didn't work too well for me in my case.

[SPEAKER_01]: But in you can say like, okay, when that vibration sensor is on the watching machine, you wait a couple of minutes for no vibration and then you send notifications saying, hey, the watch was done. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's useful again, because again, sometimes they pause between cycle or between different stages and the watch in this case.

[SPEAKER_01]: So the trigger can account [SPEAKER_01]: uh, build an automation like that. [SPEAKER_01]: And you can do that before as well. [SPEAKER_01]: You just have to manually kind of do that. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, on the moon side of it, so moon phase support has been added to automations. [SPEAKER_01]: So you can have like a full moon notification or, you know, maybe doing the how to reset it to speakers um, or a tarot or like, which you kind of automations might be kind of fun stuff for playing in like photography.

[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, combining that with Aurora for a cast since I'm having a brighter moon for five minutes of building there. [SPEAKER_01]: So, those are some cool things you can do with moon phase automations, right? [SPEAKER_01]: And obviously there are a lot of, like, religious use cases and stuff there as well, depending on phase of moon and so on and so forth, depending on if you follow a certain faith, it might [SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is one that's probably going to be the biggest frustration for 2026.8.

[SPEAKER_00]: I suspect there may be some feedback coming on this in this way. [SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to run the beta before we record it. [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't had a chance this weekend, unfortunately. [SPEAKER_00]: But integrations no longer will share or merge the same device. [SPEAKER_00]: Historically, if multiple integrations provided the same physical device, how misses and couldn't merge them into one single device.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, for example, if you've got something like a Wi-Fi network that is connected to home assistant, you may have it come in from your router's integration, for example, unify, and you may also have it from the actual [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, so it shall be devised could be seen by Unify and Shelley.

[SPEAKER_00]: Previously, it would be, so previous 2021-268, it would appear as one merge device. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, it will become two separate devices, one from Shelley and one from Unify. [SPEAKER_00]: which to me, I really liked the merged devices so yet why the change so this will be laying groundwork for future device management improvements and it creates more ownership and integration boundaries between the integrations providing those devices.

[SPEAKER_00]: So what you may see moving forward from 2026.8, some old devices are replaced by two new devices. [SPEAKER_00]: Automations using the old device will continue working in the backend. [SPEAKER_00]: The UI may show a replaced device and ask the user to choose the correct replacement. [SPEAKER_00]: Repairs may be raised when manual selection is required.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're on, I have a lot of devices that picked up by my unifying integration, so it can track its IP address, harm, not harm, as well as the actual integration itself. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, we were just talking about battery notes, too, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Another perfect example of something that kind of uses emerge device functionality, when you look into one of your sensors, the battery notes and integrations there, too, and you'll see two different innovations on that device.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: I am worried. [SPEAKER_00]: So there is some kind. [SPEAKER_00]: So one of the notes that we have here is that automations using the old device will continue working in the backend. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, if you're using HOMIS UI for the automations and you're doing a device target picker, you're actually in the demo, if you switch back to YAML, the YAML will be using a device ID as opposed to an entity ID.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they will continue working. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess if you then have to select a new replacement device, maybe those device ideas will change, which could break some automations. [SPEAKER_00]: I would be very interested to see those sort of edge cases. [SPEAKER_00]: But for me, I am very...

[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'm going to need to, like, usually I just upgrade to the beta and everything's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: But for me, I think this one's going to be like, you know what? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to dedicate an hour to this upgrade just to see what the fallout from this change is going to be.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think this, I'm hoping it goes out too big, but this one could be a big deal for me at least. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I, yeah, I liked that kind of unified view, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Like for me, it's like, [SPEAKER_01]: I keep personally, this is at least my views. [SPEAKER_01]: I care less about which integration owns it, because I typically have an idea, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if it's something like, again, since it's coming from Zigbee, and it's a battery, not something rich. [SPEAKER_01]: I know batteries doesn't own the device, it's fine, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, so from an ownership perspective, I think that the less of an issue, [SPEAKER_01]: But I kind of like having everything in that one view, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: Like when I see, hey, this is the device and everything is here. [SPEAKER_01]: Now I'll care to look at different. [SPEAKER_01]: Views of that device like how in your case you were using the example of unify how unify it sees the celly device versus our celly sees the celly device. [SPEAKER_01]: Those are two different places to go to now, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of like the better when it's going to one place and all the stuff in the same place. [SPEAKER_01]: So even if I'm comparing, you know, whatever comparing statistics are comparing something like that or perfect example, you go back to my battery and I was the example, [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, great.

[SPEAKER_01]: And once the last time I replaced the battery and battery notes, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So, again, that's me referencing two things from two device entries technically here in this case, or two integration, rather, that I would have to go back and forth for, or things like battery notes would have to build duplicate entities to do the same thing, so I can still have that, which at that point, that's just wasteful to me.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure there is a master plan happening here, so there is a groundwork for future device management improvements. [SPEAKER_00]: So maybe this is just some short-term pain for the long-term gain. [SPEAKER_01]: I hope that's what it is, right? [SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, so that's where that goes.

[SPEAKER_01]: Template editor is getting a little up to so it's getting a split layout so now users can resize the editor and the result pains You can switch between vertical and horizontal layouts and see the template's rendered and that output more comfortable That's nice Okay, like that You can kind of see what's going on and and what actually happens Stuff is happening right and you kind of adjust it to your view, which is nice here [SPEAKER_00]: Well, the template editor has had an upgrade, but if you're looking to upgrade your smartphone, you really can't get past Zeus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then, you 800 series Z-Wave Long Range Motion Demo, the Zenit 12800LR combines three smartphone devices into a single wall switch. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a full featured as that way of a dim up with a built-in emotion sensor and ambient light sensor. [SPEAKER_00]: So your lights can automatically respond when someone enters the room while also taking the current light level into account.

[SPEAKER_00]: That means you can create smarter lighting automations without installing separate motion and luck sensors around the room. [SPEAKER_00]: The X-12 also supports scene control using multi-taps, holes, and release actions, giving you plenty of ways to control lights and scenes directly from the switch.

[SPEAKER_00]: And with smart bulb mode, it can also work with smart bulbs like Philips Hue without cutting power to them at the wall. [SPEAKER_00]: Zeus are an official or works with home-business and partner, and they've also helped Nubikasa test the home-business and connect ZWA2 by providing ZWA4 long-range devices, so you know their products are designed with home-business and users in mind.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you need more control over your plugin devices, Azuz also has the Zen 20800LR Z-Wave Long Range Power Strip, which turns a single outlet into multiple, individually controllable smart sockets. [SPEAKER_00]: It's perfect under a desk, behind your TV, or in a server rack for controlling and monitoring network gear, charges, laps, game consoles, and other always on devices.

[SPEAKER_00]: So these products are backed by US-based technical support and an extended five-year warranty where you've registered your device within 30 days of purchase. [SPEAKER_00]: For the best prices on the X-12 motion dimmer, the X-20 power strip, and the full range of a zoos smartphone products, head over to thesmartesthouse.com.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's thesmartesthouse.com. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's keep going with what else is new in 20206.8. [SPEAKER_01]: to media browser search so if you use the media browser which is pretty nice so there's now a search that works across more sources than integration provided media so that means basically to be easier to find your music images and whatever other media that's exposed by other integrations like attention cameras or anything like hmm yeah that's cool yeah yeah I've always had like searching for media like frustrating even with the new [SPEAKER_00]: new, like since, you know, that was originally, had some love to it.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking forward to playing that out. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: One I'm really looking forward to seeing is there is now a new loading screen animation. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you don't have a fast time misses or you know, if you've got a slow-ish sluggish system, maybe you've got a few hundred devices that you know take a while for time misses and to load, it's a new loading screen with a nice little animation there I haven't seen it yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing it.

[SPEAKER_00]: So just a visual polish improvement is if you do have a fast system, you probably won't even notice it, it's there just under the hook change. [SPEAKER_01]: favorite cards in the dashboard. [SPEAKER_01]: So you can now, there's now a picker that allows you to pick your favorite cards for different dashboards.

[SPEAKER_01]: So like, you know, you use like star cards or whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: And that will show up at the top of the card picker. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you, if there's cards that you use more frequently, that'll show up in, you know, kind of higher up for whatever, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So you don't have to go scroll through or search.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think you have to style them. [SPEAKER_00]: It would automatically, yeah, put them with, you just sort of style them. [SPEAKER_00]: And then that will put it like any new section, but you can get them. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is great because again, there's some places where I use custom ones, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: That's hard to find it. [SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, be great, actually. [SPEAKER_00]: Real link now has three siren entities and a motion device class on its AI detection binary sensors. [SPEAKER_00]: Motion device class on its AI already thought they had motion device classes on those sensors perhaps I'm wrong.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they added support for the candle warmer lamp and the RGB IC neon rope light plus some fan and select controls for the standing fan. [SPEAKER_01]: Switchbot cloud can now trigger their AI art frame via webbooks as well. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_00]: Rubberrock, if you have a Q10 Rubberrock vacuum cleaner, you've had some love at this release.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a Junotter Sterb switch. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a new some more switch entities. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a Mac image as well. [SPEAKER_00]: And you can also control the volume of that device. [SPEAKER_01]: MQTT now has support for the infrared platform that we talked about. [SPEAKER_01]: One, two releases, there was some of that.

[SPEAKER_01]: So now you can send infrared commands over MQTT. [SPEAKER_01]: So that might actually be a cool way if you're building your own infrared device there, so you can actually leverage that too. [SPEAKER_00]: Portana has added an update platform and container health status entities into our misses as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: So you can see the health and update status of your containers around your Portana networks. [SPEAKER_00]: Open AI conversation now supports GPT 5.6 and just a couple of days before we start recording this there was some price discounts on 5.6 as well if you're at a playing I user That's a timely little addition there [SPEAKER_00]: Unifier protect now supports the U.S.L smart sensors, so the U.S.L entry, environmental, and glass break sensors.

[SPEAKER_00]: On Unifier protect 7.2 and newer cameras also gained motion detection, smart detection, and the sound detection event entities that fire for any detection of the camera reports, such as a person, package, or a barking dog, [SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, that sounds, I, I do love my unified products, so I can only imagine how polished they're protected, that's what they, um, and these senses, he just proved that.

[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, the stuff about some new integrations that I've come into this release, um, first and foremost, fuel prices dot DK. [SPEAKER_01]: So if you're in Denmark and you want to track those, um, your fuel companies [SPEAKER_00]: It's what I didn't know existed. [SPEAKER_00]: Gators, Gators, I'm not pretty sure on the pronunciation there, but it looks like it's similar to an uptime cummer, uptime robot, like a service monitor, Pingdom, so you can bring the health of your services into home is sent from your Gators monitoring instance.

[SPEAKER_00]: each monitored endpoint shows up as a binary sensor. [SPEAKER_00]: So you can put service status on a dashboard or trigger automation when something goes down or comes back up. [SPEAKER_00]: There is a self-hosted option. [SPEAKER_00]: It looks like it is open source. [SPEAKER_00]: There is a self-hosted option or you can pay like a SaaS product and have them hosted for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: It looks pretty clean, a little bit like a nicer UI, compared to Optime Kimber from what I could see from their screenshots, but yeah, I would check it out if you're interested. [SPEAKER_01]: Google Health, so you can now bring your health and fitness data into Home Assistant from Google Health and the Fitbit API as well, under Web API.

[SPEAKER_01]: So if you connect your Google account, you get sensors like steps, distance, weight, and resting heart rate, and you can run it alongside the existing Fitbit integration. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's cool. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, especially if you're monitoring those kinds of things, you have different wayscales, you have all that so you can actually bring all of that into one place now.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's nice. [SPEAKER_00]: If you have a harbour sleep baby monitor, you can now integrate that with home assistant. [SPEAKER_00]: The integration will connect to the device on the local network and it exposes sensors, including temperature, the Wi-Fi strength, and the stream at quality. [SPEAKER_01]: When you're if it actually brings in the camera entity as well, it's streaming.

[SPEAKER_01]: harm and luxury audio so you can control network streamers built on their platform like the Arcam Radia ST5 and ST60 and equivalent JBL and Mark Lovings and Streamers so at the integration talks to the device directly on the local network so you don't need a cloud account. [SPEAKER_01]: So there you go, that's nice.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're looking for something else to self host or maybe you're already self hosting this carer keep you can connect your self hosted carer keep a bookmarking [SPEAKER_00]: Are you using that before I've used that before? [SPEAKER_01]: No, I installed it once like a while ago. [SPEAKER_01]: I set it up and I was like, I don't think I actually like, like I'm not good at going back at like a bookmark or like a read later or like doing any other of the same things.

[SPEAKER_01]: And [SPEAKER_01]: And following up, I'd rather for me, it's just like, I'll just leave the tab open and eventually it will just frustrate me so I'm not one of those guys that have 7,000 doubts open. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'll go back and look at whatever I need to look at just so I can put it's a way of forcing myself to do it.

[SPEAKER_01]: If if it's hidden away like this, it's just it's gone. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's I really like the tool like I like what it offers and everything that's not how my brain. [SPEAKER_00]: organizes itself, so I decided to not run anymore, but I appreciate you being so honest because that is exactly the way I work to, like my have tried.

[SPEAKER_00]: I've don't think I've looked at my browser bookmarks for years. [SPEAKER_00]: I know this bookmarks on there, and I just leave a tab open. [SPEAKER_00]: If I want to get back to it, I'll leave the tab open to the point where my phone browser will have over 100 tabs open, and then it will eventually be like, nope, you've [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and on my computer I will be that guy with 50 tabs open because I know I want to go back to that tab at some point I don't want to lose it.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know I could bookmark it, but bookmarks I will never see again So yeah, I could not. [SPEAKER_01]: The only bookmarks I use are ones that I like pages I I Access often right, so yeah, so those are bookmarked everything else stays in tap and it doesn't work There's a work if I forgot it forget [SPEAKER_00]: If you do use Karakip and you're listening to us being like you guys, you should use it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Give us some of these cases, yeah feedback, home, it's a dot FM or comment review listening. [SPEAKER_00]: Let us know how to love to make that process better for myself. [SPEAKER_00]: LED infrared, there is now an LED infrared integration, which allows you to control LED lights through any infrared emitter you already have set up in home assistant.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it supports many branded and unbranded bulbs and stripper controllers that use generic infrared remote controls. [SPEAKER_00]: Communication is one way, so the integration will assume, we'll use the assumed states of a light. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you send a command to turn a light on over any thread, I'll let everyone in for a circuit.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, everyone in for a connection. [SPEAKER_00]: It will assume that that command worked and the light is on. [SPEAKER_00]: People have, I miss, we'll have no way of actually knowing if that command was successful or failure. [SPEAKER_00]: So it will just assume it worked. [SPEAKER_01]: Self-hosted tool you can run if you're doing any AI kind of stuff.

[SPEAKER_01]: You can now use LLum Proxy as a conversation agent, directly in Home Assistant. [SPEAKER_01]: So, LLum will put an open AI compatible API in front of a lot of model providers, so you can kind of reach any other model you want through a single endpoint or self-hosted. [SPEAKER_01]: So, Home Assistant creates a conversation agent for each model that you can figure that way.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think you can already, I already had latellum configured into it, but it was also coming and that's an alternate. [SPEAKER_01]: I provide for rather than, it's own kind of thing, so it's not if you have a configured, again, might give you a little bit of advantage just to sort out stuff, but I basically use latellum where all of my, um, [SPEAKER_01]: any different model I want to go through like LLM and then like LLM kind of break it out and I can kind of give different permissions to different API keys to say, okay, all the system has access to these three models for maybe different things I care about or what I do and then versus my like open web UI which, again, is more of a chat type tool like I self-hosted chat, GPT type tool.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's like that you can give it a lot more models. [SPEAKER_01]: They can pick what's [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's played all on to pretty neat tool. [SPEAKER_01]: And I love that it's in our system. [SPEAKER_00]: Symbolotool is Llama.cpp and that is also now available. [SPEAKER_00]: So you can use any local Llama.cpp server or any open AI compatible endpoint as that conversation agent for home assistant.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there you go. [SPEAKER_01]: Medea lands, so now if you have devices that uses the Medea protocol, like air condition is air purifiers, and so on into home assistant, you can bring that in, the integration provides information on the connected devices and lets you control their mean features.

[SPEAKER_00]: Neopool, you can now monitor and manage pull controllers built on the Neopool system, which was originally from Sugar Valley and was sold on the many brands, like HydroLive, Aquarite and OxiLive. [SPEAKER_00]: It talks to your controller locally over Modbus TCP, and it will expose things like water chemistry, filtration, and hydrolysis data with no cloud needed.

[SPEAKER_01]: Scorpion tracks and now you can follow vehicles that are shared through a public scorpion truck location share link onto your home system map. [SPEAKER_01]: So, integration reads the shared vehicle feed and creates a device tracker for each vehicle without meeting your private account for that show.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what Scorpion track is, but that's either great or creepy, so I don't want to look at that, I haven't figured that out yet. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, breaking changes. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to run all these off because I've basically talked about these three ones. [SPEAKER_00]: The H2B server, YAML settings, haven't moved to the UI, so be sure to check out that manual port changes can affect reverse proxy setups.

[SPEAKER_00]: So existing uses won't be moved automatically to port 80. [SPEAKER_00]: However, if you do manually change your port from port 8123 to port 80, [SPEAKER_00]: with complex setups, you may break your reverse proxies, so just watch out for that if you have your reverse proxy. [SPEAKER_00]: The device registry separation may require some action from you, which I spoke about before, existing merge devices may be replaced.

[SPEAKER_00]: Automations should continue [SPEAKER_00]: and you may need to update automations or helpers through repair flows. [SPEAKER_00]: So if something is devices not been merged correctly or have been separated out, you may get repairs at an automation group or somewhere is referencing a broken entity.

[SPEAKER_00]: There should be a repair credit for that and you'll need to go through that flow to resolve it. [SPEAKER_00]: Custom integrations that interact with the device registry incorrectly may need to be updated. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you are a heavy user of hacks custom components, just be sure to hit update on those components.

[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe set this dot zero release out for a little bit while those custom components get their heads around this new device registry changes and mark their components compatible with 2026.8 [SPEAKER_00]: We're on that is 2026.8 and now we've got some, I want to talk about something I've been doing, but first something that you have been doing or currently in the process of, which we alluded to in the episode today is you are moving house.

[SPEAKER_00]: We have an episode out about your house moving. [SPEAKER_00]: I believe that will be out. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got that out for Patreon members and subscribers at the [SPEAKER_00]: So this run is technically the last recording we have recorded a couple of other episodes in this house, but this is today is the last recording in this house for you today.

[SPEAKER_00]: So a bit of a big change. [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully the last day we'll have this last day we'll have this last recording. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll have your headphones obviously been packed up. [SPEAKER_00]: bit off, are you all sorted now, are you ready for the move? [SPEAKER_01]: Not even remotely, so it's as assuming expected by pretty much every move, no demand, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, we'll figure it out. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be taking a couple of weeks off to let Rohan move house, get set up, so yeah, we'll be back in your feed, we've got us, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I think what episode's coming at, we're trying to record as much as we could to keep the momentum going, but yeah, there may be a week or so here and there, where we've got a break for Rohan to move house and get a whole new studio set up already in his new place.

[SPEAKER_01]: Don't expect you to be pretty when we start, so that's going to be over time. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, so I like it. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, we're on something that I managed to had grave success last month. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, I mentioned that I wanted to move, uh, my, uh, um, Mrs and set up from my, uh, that's old old computer to now he's old computer.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I set up proxmox on that new computer. [SPEAKER_00]: And yes, I had, I'm Mrs and OS, uh, running there. [SPEAKER_00]: I was ready for the Polk in Caboodle. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we had discussed, you know, do I start again? [SPEAKER_00]: Do I just, migrate? [SPEAKER_00]: I bit the bullet and I just did the cloud backup and restore and it was almost without a hit, um, it was so seamless like, okay, well, well, yeah, you should almost so what what was the.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, couple of the weird things. [SPEAKER_00]: So, first of all, ZHA. [SPEAKER_00]: So, I have the home assistant, the ZBT2, I think it is, radio, their ZB stick. [SPEAKER_00]: I moved that from the older bit onto the new computer plugged it in. [SPEAKER_00]: Before I did that though, I actually got a great success with looking up my Hermes profile.

[SPEAKER_00]: I gave an SSH access onto the Proxbox box and by extension. [SPEAKER_00]: Also gave an SSH access into the home with OS container running on Proxbox. [SPEAKER_00]: And it was able to do, I was able to tell my home is agent that, hey, I am moving the Zigbee radio from this computer over to this computer.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's gave me the step-by-step instructions. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, do this. [SPEAKER_00]: And then it said, tell me when you've moved it over, I will then find the new USB paths. [SPEAKER_00]: It did that. [SPEAKER_00]: It's set the configuration. [SPEAKER_00]: Then tell me, go ahead, reset home assistant.

[SPEAKER_00]: I did that. [SPEAKER_00]: beautiful, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Absolute like it's or it's amazed at how good it was. [SPEAKER_00]: It found the new it goes to be stick eventually after a restart. [SPEAKER_00]: But then it asked me to migrate my USB radio, which I was a bit confused by, because [SPEAKER_00]: I was under the impression that I was importing a whole, like, I was restoring a backup of home visits, which should have booted that.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I did my, I followed my relation with it. [SPEAKER_00]: And it must have used a cash file somewhere on the, on the chain or something, but it came back like things for the most part, my ZB devices are working, I think. [SPEAKER_00]: Once again, my current FP1 sensors are getting missed at the moment for whatever reason, but everything else is fine, ZIP-Y's.

[SPEAKER_00]: For ZIP, I was using these ZIP-JS-UI as a Docker container. [SPEAKER_00]: Once again, you can't, you still can't go into, so we've just settings and just change in the UI, the IP address of where that container is running. [SPEAKER_00]: So I could have gone into the dot storage folder and updated the IP address.

[SPEAKER_00]: But once again, I got my Hermes agent onto it and it guided me [SPEAKER_00]: in her Mrs. and OS. [SPEAKER_00]: So we installed ZWFJS app on her assistant. [SPEAKER_00]: We then we took a backup of the ZWave network. [SPEAKER_00]: We then ran a migration path to move over to that way. [SPEAKER_00]: I really can't remember the flow too much because how many did I over there?

[SPEAKER_00]: But is there a way was a little bit tricky? [SPEAKER_00]: I then had to put in, I had to set up the keys, like the security keys, [SPEAKER_00]: from my old instance into the new instance, that was fine, that was just copy and paste the keys over. [SPEAKER_00]: And then they eventually came back.

[SPEAKER_00]: I had to input the names from the old instance into the new instance. [SPEAKER_00]: So otherwise, it was all just everything came through as an unknown device. [SPEAKER_00]: So when the home misses and booted up, [SPEAKER_00]: or always their way of entities were unavailable because they just didn't exist.

[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't being provided by, so I had to wait, I had to do a repair on the network for it to go out and find them all. [SPEAKER_00]: And eventually did it took a couple of hours, but eventually it has found them all. [SPEAKER_00]: There is one battery motion device that hasn't come back, which once I plug some batteries into it and straight it up, it probably come back.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, there was another culture I found though, uh, my locks, so I have some Yale show locks with Z-wave radios built into them, or applied into them, and I have my own personal access code, and my wife has her own personal access code against those locks. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize, but when the Zeppem network reset with this move, it removed those access codes from the system, from those on the locks itself.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, it actually had the automation to lock at front door disabled, and it wasn't until I came home, and I was like, bye. [SPEAKER_00]: I went to put in my code and my code didn't work. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, oh, well, this is awkward. [SPEAKER_00]: Why isn't my code working? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's especially bad if you don't use, if you don't carry keys with you, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't carry keys, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it's one of those locks. [SPEAKER_00]: It just doesn't have a key slot on it. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, oh, well, this is awkward. [SPEAKER_00]: Luckily, there is a master pin on the unit. [SPEAKER_00]: I was able to use the master pin code.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is not controllable by the network. [SPEAKER_00]: That's like set on the memory of the lock itself. [SPEAKER_00]: So that was fine. [SPEAKER_00]: I was able to use the master pin. [SPEAKER_00]: So then I was like, oh, well, I guess none of our user codes are existing more. [SPEAKER_00]: This is a great opportunity.

[SPEAKER_00]: for me to go and use the new user credential management that was introduced a couple of releases go for the subway flux. [SPEAKER_00]: I went to do that and it failed. [SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, my log. [SPEAKER_00]: So in Home Assistant, you create a user access code, right? [SPEAKER_00]: So 1, 2, 3, 4.

[SPEAKER_00]: And you save that and it goes and saves that onto the lock. [SPEAKER_00]: My lock requires that you specify the slot number, or the username that that code belongs to, which the Home Assistant UI wasn't exposing. [SPEAKER_00]: I will hit the save button and home Mrs would give me an error saying sorry you need to provide a username for the ask code.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I was able to get around it. [SPEAKER_00]: I was able to open up the set wave UI, the app, open up the UI for it, and ping that that I actually set a user access code slot manually. [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it wasn't, you know, there were some teething issues, but for the most part, [SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise, it's been seamless.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think I had to on my phones. [SPEAKER_00]: I just had to update the IP address that we use when we're on the Wi-Fi network at home, to point to the computer, which that's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: MQTT, I think, is broken because I just need to update the devices to use the right MQTT server now, because that's also on the same host, the same system.

[SPEAKER_00]: But otherwise, yeah, it was everything's there. [SPEAKER_00]: My history is there on my automations are there. [SPEAKER_00]: And I now have Hermes with right access into home, is this isn't, I can now talk to Hermes and say, hey, I've just had no idea for the automation, and it will go in SSH into a credit gamma automation and reload the gamma automation.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm a very happy camper at the moment. [SPEAKER_01]: Nice. [SPEAKER_01]: Will? [SPEAKER_01]: would it make sense to give Hermes access to home assistant API instead of YAML or instead of SSH so that, you know, it can create automations in there that's now not YAML based it's now, you know, the current UI kind of methodology based, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: Like would that, [SPEAKER_00]: I thought so too, and I am still very early days in this. [SPEAKER_00]: I have enabled the MCP server for home assistant. [SPEAKER_00]: It has a long-lived access token, so it can control all my entities, but you can see everything. [SPEAKER_00]: I was hoping it would do what you're saying, like use the UI to create these things.

[SPEAKER_00]: But for me so far, it's not doing that. [SPEAKER_00]: It's only purely doing it by YAML. [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't really pressed it to go further. [SPEAKER_00]: to edit automations.jml and break that and then it break all the automations that are configured by the UI. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if there is an API that will, it knows about yet to do the UI style automations.

[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe next month, maybe I'll come back with you and tell you another, if I didn't have success without. [SPEAKER_00]: But otherwise, yeah, Hermes, I've been very, very impressed with it as well. [SPEAKER_00]: And I have my other Hermes profile that has SSH access to a whole bunch of my different servers.

[SPEAKER_00]: So another problem I had, remember the original problem I wanted from moving over to this system was that I was away on holiday and randomly the box lost its network connection and a lot of people will say you need to get a KVM. [SPEAKER_00]: which would have solved the issue. [SPEAKER_00]: Within 24 hours of running on the new box, I had the exact same problem then it worked completely.

[SPEAKER_00]: complete loss connection, but the box is up. [SPEAKER_00]: It was communicating over the Z-wave and Zippy perfectly. [SPEAKER_00]: What I found fixed it, or I was going to say Hermes found. [SPEAKER_00]: I said Hermes, I said, I can't remember the one one. [SPEAKER_00]: I probably mentioned the proverb like, I've lost complete access.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we did an incident response plan basically. [SPEAKER_00]: It told me to hard reboot the box. [SPEAKER_00]: I did that. [SPEAKER_00]: As soon as it came back up, it has attached into the box. [SPEAKER_00]: It checked the logs on the system and it identified a network driver issue. [SPEAKER_00]: clicked some settings randomly in under the hood and said let's leave that as for the moment let's just leave it see how it goes and it's been up for a few weeks now no issue so we've permanently set that new driver setting somewhere so it basically is fucking false to true somewhere and we're rock solid and now if it happens again I will be able to raise another incident with my Hermit's profile and we'll go through the

[SPEAKER_01]: That's very neat. [SPEAKER_01]: It's, I love using like a agent for that kind of stuff, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I don't know what's going on, go fix this and then just give me a report of what happened, you know, kind of a, you're taking more of an executive approach rather than a admin approach, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: Of like, hey, do what you got to do, tell me what's up, right? [SPEAKER_01]: And then how do we prevent this from happening again, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So it's, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: That's all my projects. [SPEAKER_00]: You obviously, apart from packing boxes, I'm guessing you don't have any other projects going on.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Everything is on hold right now. [SPEAKER_01]: It's, uh, but what's what I, I gotta give shout out to is a few people have message me now about the frame that I'm building, like the picture run off a couple of people [SPEAKER_01]: different social media accounts talking about that and a lot of interest in it.

[SPEAKER_01]: So that's going to be a higher priority for me now. [SPEAKER_01]: Just again, putting it out there, people are interested, so I definitely want to make sure people can get at it. [SPEAKER_01]: I've updated while I don't have [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: I've also, but I've, you know, I had my blog post written one way and then, you know, we made a bunch of changes architecturally.

[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like I have to rewrite. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's all caught up now. [SPEAKER_01]: Now I have to redo it just to deal with any homelessness updates. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: And then, but I don't know that it should be mostly mostly good to go. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm trying to figure out ways that people can do this cheaper as well, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: Because there is a pretty big barrier to entry there from a cost perspective. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, I know for some people, that's not a barrier, but some people it is. [SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, what is the absolute cheapest way you could build one of these things, DIY? [SPEAKER_01]: So, that might be like a part two or something like that.

[SPEAKER_01]: I right now am focused on, [SPEAKER_01]: Well, right now it's moving. [SPEAKER_01]: Once I move and actually have a desk I can work on, let's kind of have my desk right now, but once everything is set up and I have all my stuff mostly unpacked, I can go back to kind of to bring with it and kind of getting it where I want to get it and release it that way.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I think, [SPEAKER_01]: That's where I'm going with that from a project perspective. [SPEAKER_01]: Other than that, I'll have to do it full rebuild, but I'm also learning a bunch of different systems and stuff like that for my it at that new house. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to slow roll it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make sure everything is done properly the first time. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather not go back and do a second visit. [SPEAKER_01]: Those of you that have been, when I say second because of, I mean, second iteration of the thing that could have just been done right the first time.

[SPEAKER_01]: Those of you that have been listening long enough know that when I moved into this house that was kind of how I did it here where it's like, I started on like, I just need something at the time I was living alone and that was traveling a lot for work and stuff and that's always more safety, the kind of security kind of things, you know, auto lights and all that stuff.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I just threw something together just [SPEAKER_01]: Now, that's not my case. [SPEAKER_01]: Again, obviously, I live my family, so I have a little more flexibility in being able to do that and do it properly. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's the goal. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll see how it goes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think a lot of people look excited to see how you get on with that.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I would like to see some partners who weren't in get a cost behind it, because I'm certainly interested as well. [SPEAKER_01]: 100% and there's going to be again we have that episode really released a picture on already about where we're going a lot more in depth with that time it'll be you believe releasing it's up by soon.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's next week. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
