[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to Homemaker Shake Podcast. [SPEAKER_02]: Today we're going to continue our efforts to rescue the art of home making from the daily grind because I just feel like that's a daily thing. [SPEAKER_02]: So I do want to talk about grind because I do like a major project this week and I'm sure there's got to be other people out there that can resonate with what I did, but how are you?

[SPEAKER_02]: Because I don't feel like I'm so good. [SPEAKER_03]: I have had a couple days a great couple days not because things have gone well Which we can talk about My stove is still leaking waters spontaneously. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Well. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm waiting for my dog to poop at a chicken bone.

[UNKNOWN]: So [SPEAKER_03]: This is a chic podcast. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to leave it actually in the rails here. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, however, life happens and other truth. [SPEAKER_03]: I had a hilarious Italian lesson last week where I journal a lot. [SPEAKER_03]: I think I mentioned this. [SPEAKER_03]: I journal a lot, and so it teaches, I bump up against new words that I don't know, but I learn them in the context of something actually happening, which is much easier.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm trying to explain to my tutor what's going on. [SPEAKER_03]: She knew I was having problems with my dog, so I had to catch her up on all of the, so I learned words for [SPEAKER_03]: Blood, vomit. [SPEAKER_03]: It's off a jeel back up, I'm just like, something that can't say on the air, and then I think our dog, our poor dog had quite the, he got castrated.

[SPEAKER_03]: It's, it doesn't know what it's called, it's called neutered. [SPEAKER_03]: It's not a formal, I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: He's got neutered. [SPEAKER_03]: Full calf, but I couldn't, I couldn't think of a way to say this in Italian, okay? [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I don't know the word for neuter, and I really try to find a way before I look up a new word.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so I said they took his balls. [SPEAKER_03]: And I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like all, I'm like in the polyglot zone, man.

[SPEAKER_02]: I am feeling my Cheerios as my grandma would say, I just started Spanish and I've had two lessons in a row where I got a compliment from my French teacher. [SPEAKER_02]: Really? [SPEAKER_02]: So... Tastic. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just, I think this is like, I shouldn't say I think this is like, I, this for sure is a new hobby.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's moved from like, I need to know French because of my trips and because I love the culture to now, I'm really enjoying the process. [SPEAKER_02]: and now to bring on another language, which I've known French for so long, dabbled in it for so many years before just getting really serious like in the last couple of years, that I can't fathom not knowing it.

[SPEAKER_02]: And so, to start from scratch, I mean, obviously I know basics because we live in America with Spanish, but to start from scratch for all intents and purposes is fascinating to me, like, I'm, I'm just giddy. [SPEAKER_03]: So, well, and they say that once, once that happens, you when you know how to learn a language, then you can just learn a language.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel kind of know I feel like, okay, now I can take this formula and apply it to, I mean I'm assuming it's applicable outside the Latin languages, you know, because the next one I'd like to learn is German. [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm really keen to Sort of just be present in this process.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm very much looking forward to these very early stages of learning Spanish. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, okay, let's just squat here for a little bit because we told you guys we just want to hang out with you this season We just want to hang out. [SPEAKER_03]: We're not goom-rues We're not I'm not sure even what we are, but we do want to hang out with you, so [SPEAKER_03]: I wrote a sub-stack last week that went kind of crazy and I think it's because it's struck on a chord for people I was just writing about it like a personal anecdote here's what's going on with me.

[SPEAKER_03]: We decided for our family to do no screen November. [SPEAKER_03]: We're really selective about when our kids have screens. [SPEAKER_03]: Only one has a cell phone. [SPEAKER_03]: They do have Nintendo switches, but they're offline. [SPEAKER_03]: They don't play with friends. [SPEAKER_03]: They don't have gaming parties.

[SPEAKER_03]: They don't have access to YouTube. [SPEAKER_03]: There's no social media. [SPEAKER_03]: So we're already pretty archaic with some of this stuff. [SPEAKER_03]: But even still, the amount that was filtering in, we just thought, you know what, let's just show the kids that you can do this.

[SPEAKER_03]: And let's show each other that we can do this too. [SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, we have to be on screens for work. [SPEAKER_03]: And if we're on screens for work, then that's acceptable screen time or if the kids have to type up an essay or something for a school. [SPEAKER_03]: But there's just been zero show, zero, screen, focused, entertainment in our home.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, turns out, wow, turns out, you guys that was such a bigger problem than I thought it was. [SPEAKER_03]: Not because it was hard for me to quit. [SPEAKER_03]: I felt like freedom. [SPEAKER_03]: And by the way, I do listen to podcasts, but I only allow myself like one a week, [SPEAKER_03]: Just like just gonna listen to one week for a little entertainment while I'm doing the dishes or some things.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sitting there looking at a screen. [SPEAKER_03]: It's audio entertainment. [SPEAKER_03]: It's like listening to music or something. [SPEAKER_03]: So please listen to the podcast. [SPEAKER_03]: But my point in all this is I've been finding all these pockets of time because you know when you're standing at the stove stirring bacon or whatever.

[SPEAKER_03]: Waiting for a kid to go get a chicken from the freezer without realizing it. [SPEAKER_03]: you pull out your phone. [SPEAKER_03]: I'll just check my email real fast. [SPEAKER_03]: I'll just check in on Instagram. [SPEAKER_03]: Whatever it is, it could be browsing eBay, it could be checking sports statistics, like everybody has their little thing that they take.

[SPEAKER_03]: Jake, right. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, that little checking. [SPEAKER_03]: Wow. [SPEAKER_03]: When I, in those pockets, now I'm looking for other things. [SPEAKER_03]: A lot of times I just stand there and observe peace in my heart. [SPEAKER_03]: How about that? [SPEAKER_03]: Right? [SPEAKER_03]: I like will sit and stare at a tree.

[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of times, I fill it with my Italian journaling, because I'll just try to think of sentences, just think of ways to phrase things. [SPEAKER_03]: Sure. [SPEAKER_03]: And then I'll sit down and do real studying later where I go back and try to correct the word. [SPEAKER_03]: But when you're not getting the dopamine hit from your phone, by the way, it loses all of it's like power over you.

[SPEAKER_03]: You're like, what am I going to do? [SPEAKER_03]: Look at the time. [SPEAKER_03]: right like there's nothing to really do on it yeah yeah and um so when you don't have that dopamine hit the dopamine hit of learning something or like hearing a really good song or getting to a really great chapter of your book or learning a new word it's like higher do you know what I mean?

[SPEAKER_03]: And so there's not something kind of constantly vying for your attention while you're trying to, like, practice, you know, your participals or whatever prepositions, like, you know, do you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_03]: I think all that's to say, the context of like what you're learning really matters, like even you learning Spanish, why you're learning Spanish, which we talked about last week, that really matters, that flavors.

[SPEAKER_02]: you learning your time you spent learning it for sure yeah it makes I mean just that reason alone makes me giddy you know whether it comes to pass or not just thinking about it so precious to me yeah it's so precious so yeah it's it's good it's been such a good week [SPEAKER_03]: I love that you're doing that.

[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not. [SPEAKER_02]: It's not ridiculous. [SPEAKER_02]: It feels ridiculous because I do know that feeling of like, well, what are you going to do? [SPEAKER_02]: You know, when I get back from my trips, I just have this disdain for my phone. [SPEAKER_03]: You have to be on a lot when you're doing those.

[SPEAKER_02]: you have to be out at a lot. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, doing those. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And so when I get home, like, what am I going to do? [SPEAKER_02]: Check the news. [SPEAKER_02]: Check the weather. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: I just want to throw this thing out the window, you know.

[SPEAKER_02]: And granted, I use it a ton for work. [SPEAKER_02]: But, um, [SPEAKER_02]: Which is all good. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's all good. [SPEAKER_03]: Right. [SPEAKER_03]: I love, right. [SPEAKER_03]: I love technology. [SPEAKER_02]: But taking it to the bathroom to poop is not good. [SPEAKER_02]: I know.

[SPEAKER_02]: I said that like, I'm like, like, just do like how pitiful. [SPEAKER_02]: Is you just give yourself 30 seconds. [SPEAKER_02]: Just grab a reader's digest for the love. [SPEAKER_03]: I have read in a more focused way than I have read in as long as I can remember. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, genuinely, this is gonna sound silly, but like, food tastes better.

[SPEAKER_03]: Word sound better, music sounds better. [SPEAKER_03]: Conversations with friends, my mind feels way more focused. [SPEAKER_03]: It's like my whole, what would you call that, like your whatever system? [SPEAKER_03]: Sensory, or some famous? [SPEAKER_03]: It's slow down. [SPEAKER_03]: And it's like all the other senses are rebuilding their little neural pathways.

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and they really are. [SPEAKER_02]: That's really, that's very, and I hate that. [SPEAKER_02]: That's not imagined. [SPEAKER_03]: And to myself, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: That stressed out, we had a stressful week. [SPEAKER_03]: grand in terms of everything, everything. [SPEAKER_03]: But I felt better than I have felt in a decade.

[SPEAKER_03]: I loved it. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm still going. [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm not. [SPEAKER_03]: No way. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think. [SPEAKER_03]: I think too. [SPEAKER_03]: I told to do. [SPEAKER_03]: I think it got a little bit of [SPEAKER_03]: I think you got a little amplified after Charlie Kirk was assassinated because there was just so much going on and what just happened, you know, and then you were trying to kind of piece it together.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think right people were just on social media and tapping into news feeds. [SPEAKER_03]: a new source is more than normal and I and there was something that seems seemed to really change about the algorithm, my algorithm during that time so I would get on Facebook and it would just be all of these outrageous political things and I'm like, what are you trying to do here?

[SPEAKER_03]: It was kind of odd. [SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, all that's to say it's been good and my [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it has made studying hard things, doing hard things like learning a language, better, exponentially better. [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, we've talked about, you know, we sat down.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's all night the other day and just talked about this, oncoming illiterate society and [SPEAKER_02]: What that means for our grandchildren and people we won't even know, great grandchildren and what we could do now. [SPEAKER_02]: what we could do now for them. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, you know, I just like in the room ination stages and, you know, the screen is definitely the screen definitely play it's a part in that.

[SPEAKER_02]: And it's, it's even those conversations, those kind of conversations where I, that's some of my angst with aid and leaving when I say, like, no, no, no, I wasn't done. [SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't done, like, you know, like whatever conclusions we come to, I would want him to be a part of that and I hate that now.

[SPEAKER_02]: establishing himself and that would just have to be something we would share with him and he could take it early bit or whatever. [SPEAKER_02]: I hate that. [SPEAKER_02]: The screen was definitely a part of that conversation because [SPEAKER_02]: Like in similar to you, we've always felt like we've done our own way of mitigating the exposure and it's still never enough and there's still really innocent things whether it's you know vintage NASCAR games on the next box, you know that they enjoy playing together, you know, there's, but it's just still so much, but it's just still too much.

[SPEAKER_02]: so much. [SPEAKER_02]: And our teen girls do have phones. [SPEAKER_02]: They, they each are on a certain amount of social media, um, Instagram. [SPEAKER_02]: And that is how they communicate with their friends. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, I said to him, I said, what I hate about it is especially for the girls is that that's their CD player.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's their phone, their phone, you know, I had a hot pink phone in my bedroom and I would, you know, we think about them. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, like texting back and forth all evening. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think about me being a teenager. [SPEAKER_02]: I was on the phone from dinner time till midnight every night, you know, I had my own line.

[SPEAKER_02]: And so what I don't like is that. [SPEAKER_02]: it's hard if not impossible to separate that like here's what we wouldn't want like if we did some sort of a faster something or wanted to set some new parameters here's how that would look and then your music list and here's when you can talk to your friend.

[SPEAKER_02]: I hate that it's all in one device. [SPEAKER_02]: I hate that that's their little computer that's their word document for school. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh no that's what I mean that you have to go like hate it. [SPEAKER_03]: You got to go. [SPEAKER_03]: Once you taste the sweet nectar, though, like we go record player, like we're going old, or I put the music on this speaker from the desktop computer.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's like, no, you're not gonna roast for that song, you're not gonna look for that thing. [SPEAKER_02]: Right, the friend's situation, you know, you've got Amelie using it for for transpose, you know, you've got her. [SPEAKER_02]: And the friend's situation is different. [SPEAKER_02]: Where I'm assuming Georgia has friends at collapse and church.

[SPEAKER_02]: And this is there. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you need to pause? [SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm just yelling at me for putting his keys in my purse. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, let's see, let's see. [SPEAKER_03]: Have you seen those great broad processors that they're like a new school typewriter? [SPEAKER_03]: their word, you type, but it's digital, it saves it digitally to the cloud.

[SPEAKER_03]: You can, it lives in the digital world, but when you open it up, it's like an old, it has all it does. [SPEAKER_03]: You just type into it. [SPEAKER_03]: You can have different documents and things, but that's it. [SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's the kind of stuff that this next generation is going to face.

[SPEAKER_03]: right because that kind of stuff being what like you're already seeing this cultural resurgence okay you've got mail you've seen you you have seen that movie right yeah okay do you remember Maygreens boyfriend and he has the type writers [SPEAKER_03]: And he keeps telling her how her computer is going to like, it's going to suck your soul.

[SPEAKER_03]: It's, you know, he's already this movie was made at what 97 and he's already kind of being what we would call consider now like hipster about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_03]: He's going to go right at the coffee shop and he's going to bring us tie brighter. [SPEAKER_03]: Do you see how, you know, see how hipster I'm about this?

[UNKNOWN]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: you're seeing that now with younger kids, so like here, the school district just banned phones in the school. [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know what? [SPEAKER_03]: People are going on to eBay and buying iPods. [SPEAKER_03]: They're buying iPods so that they can just have a music player.

[SPEAKER_03]: Right? [SPEAKER_03]: That's what I mean. [SPEAKER_03]: Like it's going backwards already. [SPEAKER_03]: It's going backwards. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for one of my French homework assignments, I had to watch a whole video about kids going back to just even flip phones. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: On purpose.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like whole groups of them. [SPEAKER_02]: Groups of friends doing it on purpose. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep. [SPEAKER_02]: Because you know what? [SPEAKER_03]: You're free, I, like, it's so strange. [SPEAKER_03]: But when you take away its power, you feel free. [SPEAKER_03]: Here's the funny thing.

[SPEAKER_03]: I found myself feeling so good. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm, I'm putting out pumpkins. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, they can burn. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just like, I'm feeling so hot. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like a race horse. [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, I feel so good. [SPEAKER_03]: You know what I want to do right now?

[SPEAKER_03]: I want to watch a good year. [SPEAKER_03]: I want to watch a good year. [SPEAKER_03]: So sad. [SPEAKER_03]: because I feel mentally like I do when I watch a good year. [SPEAKER_03]: It takes me to such a happy place. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And you know, I think there's space for two things to be true.

[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's, I don't think you need to go crazy with it. [SPEAKER_03]: Like I'm on a screen right now talking to you, obviously. [SPEAKER_03]: But that's not the same as, [SPEAKER_03]: having news notifications pop through on your phone when you're trying to just have a family dinner or I was working yesterday and I was doing that thing that we do where it's like half work on the computer and then you go vacuum a floor and then you'd come back in here and then newsletter and then go scrub a toilet like just just and I had work calls come in and when they came in I actually felt almost like violated.

[SPEAKER_03]: Like, can't you say, I'm just, I'm cruising, man, I had some great music going and I was, I was driving and it felt, I was driving. [SPEAKER_03]: I was, if you weren't alive in the early 2000s or, you know, I can't really describe it. [SPEAKER_03]: But that's where I was. [SPEAKER_03]: I was just like, I went old school and it felt so good.

[SPEAKER_03]: It felt so good. [SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't about how much money I had or anything like that. [SPEAKER_03]: I was just like, oh, yeah, this feeling of home making. [SPEAKER_03]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you remember that feeling? [SPEAKER_02]: That like, I remember, um, not wanting one. [SPEAKER_02]: I remember being forced to get one.

[SPEAKER_02]: Once I finally had four kids. [SPEAKER_02]: I was just like, don't text me. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't you text me? [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to type my response to you. [SPEAKER_02]: I just, oh gosh, I hated it. [SPEAKER_02]: I just, I got one so, so reluctantly. [SPEAKER_03]: What year was that?

[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think that you got one? [SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to remember what year was that I got one. [SPEAKER_03]: It would have been like I got one in 13. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, that's what I got. [SPEAKER_03]: What year I got one? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's um, y'all. [SPEAKER_03]: It's just a double-ish sword.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, there's this really great book that you should read called you are what you love [SPEAKER_03]: And it's that's what I think we're seeing is that we made this tool so that we could like be more human be more connected be more vocal be more everything and we ended up far more changed by it just our human nature was far more changed by it than I think maybe we expected but the news is that regardless of how you see screens in your home like [SPEAKER_03]: you have the power either way and I think that was also invigorating because we always say oh they they they they the algorithm they I can just literally power it down and they are bringing home phones back by the way I was going to say landlines are they're bringing home phones back and they're also bringing back if you like a genuinely need

[SPEAKER_03]: And it literally looks like this. [SPEAKER_03]: It's like a brick, black brick. [SPEAKER_03]: And you have it, let's say on your refrigerator at home. [SPEAKER_03]: And when you install the app on your phone and you come and you put your phone on the brick, and it's like it takes away all of its power.

[SPEAKER_03]: Where people can still let call you in text you, but you say to the brick, [SPEAKER_03]: no Facebook, no Instagram, no YouTube, no this, no, no, nothing like that. [SPEAKER_03]: So when it's in brick mode, it's just a phone. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you can't do anything on it because it's just a training of people's minds, you know, I have a friend who is a lawyer and he loves it because then people can still get in contact with him.

[SPEAKER_03]: But while something's printing, he's not inclined to like pick it up and you know, check the weather report. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, [SPEAKER_03]: Just put it out there. [SPEAKER_03]: You find it helpful this holiday season. [SPEAKER_03]: It's genuinely changing the family landscape.

[SPEAKER_03]: And I find things like that to be invigorating. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Speaking of invigorating, thank you to Branch Basics for sponsoring season 26 of Home Maker, Shique. [SPEAKER_03]: So if people listen on Spotify and leave a comment, there was some from there.

[SPEAKER_03]: There was a correction from David. [SPEAKER_03]: David Hannah. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, David. [SPEAKER_03]: It was Betsy Tane boom. [SPEAKER_03]: Cory Sister, who thanked God for the fleas. [SPEAKER_03]: And that makes sense because actually George [SPEAKER_02]: of their story last year and that's right because Betsy was not more pious but she was softer to the whole situation and where Corey was yes more frustrated and she had more of a struggle there.

[SPEAKER_03]: That's true true true. [SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think they remade the movie. [SPEAKER_02]: Did you say that? [SPEAKER_02]: anywhere before you went off social media. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think there's a remake coming okay which would be great because I mean obviously you have to read the book it's one of the best books ever but the old movies like from the 70s it's really super crazy.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay there you go yeah uh I don't know how to say this name. [SPEAKER_03]: That's C love fish. [SPEAKER_03]: No. [SPEAKER_03]: These C the cell the celly fish. [SPEAKER_03]: That's I'm not sure. [SPEAKER_02]: I do so bad reading people's handles. [SPEAKER_02]: I just make up quick. [SPEAKER_02]: My brain just sees what it wants to see.

[SPEAKER_03]: Like this silly fish. [SPEAKER_02]: Silly fish. [SPEAKER_03]: Right. [SPEAKER_03]: This is about last week's episode that we talked about our kids and she said thank you for the reminder that our kids will make their own choices and that we can do our best as parents but ultimately we leave it in God's hands and on a different topic you should look up the YouTube channel [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_03]: There you go. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: Nicole is saying that you and I should meet in Asheville. [SPEAKER_03]: Nicole, thank you for the sake of me. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Saw that. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Miami to the bill more. [SPEAKER_02]: Is that the bill more?

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, to go to the bill more. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, this one's on this one's on Spotify. [SPEAKER_03]: My mother-in-law lives right near Asheville. [SPEAKER_03]: And so I don't think I would be able to escape to North Carolina without taking everybody because that's like also where my brother-in-law lives, my sister-in-law lives, my niece lives, and my mother-in-law on her has been, et cetera.

[SPEAKER_03]: So North Carolina is like family territory for us, you can't. [SPEAKER_03]: you can't go and not see everybody. [SPEAKER_03]: But that being said, I have just taken the role of travel coordinator upon my shoulders. [SPEAKER_03]: I haven't told you until I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_02]: What, I'm the travel coordinator in this relationship.

[SPEAKER_03]: What are you talking about? [SPEAKER_03]: I have been researching different, like the best cities that we could meet in the worst time of year when everything's nasty and gross, gross. [SPEAKER_03]: But it's like the time of year that we can't do it. [SPEAKER_03]: And so I'm just going to buy it to get on and ship it to Angela's door, be like, get on that plane.

[SPEAKER_01]: Be there, be somewhere. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to say. [SPEAKER_03]: So keep the recommendations coming. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, there's a form, please. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_03]: There's a few others. [SPEAKER_03]: Please send us your comments. [SPEAKER_03]: Send us your questions.

[SPEAKER_03]: et cetera, over on Instagram, or over on Spotify, or over on Apple podcasts, there's a few more, but we need to talk about today's topic because we are in the holidays. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, we also got a comment from somebody that said, damn, I think you got to be fine. [SPEAKER_03]: Six, seven.

[SPEAKER_02]: Is that one of my kids? [SPEAKER_02]: It's like someone's like a fair kid. [SPEAKER_02]: It sounds like one of my kids. [SPEAKER_03]: And lastly, a man to this one made me laugh too. [SPEAKER_03]: A man to say, I'm here for the eggplant slander. [SPEAKER_03]: A man to how dare you. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, girl.

[SPEAKER_03]: Ew. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I just fight against this so hard. [SPEAKER_03]: I fight against the fight all you want, girl. [SPEAKER_03]: The hills are alive. [SPEAKER_03]: It's shut up. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, hey, that. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I didn't roll it at all, didn't roll it at all, didn't roll it at all, didn't roll it at all, didn't roll it at all, didn't roll it at all, didn't roll it at all, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn't roll it, didn

[SPEAKER_02]: I got this thing about the table looking the same every year. [SPEAKER_02]: Every year I do a table skipping video for YouTube for Thanksgiving and Christmas. [SPEAKER_02]: I always try to, and they're not really realistic. [SPEAKER_02]: Like I just pull out all my pretty stuff and grab moss from the forest and just kind of, they're more like in-spot, right?

[SPEAKER_02]: But there is something to when you get out those tubs and you think, oh my gosh, it's table is going to look the same every year. [SPEAKER_02]: So that was kind of the spirit I did this sale in, but also what about just the way things look and function being the same every year that same sticking point, you know, we have only so much room it's not a small kitchen by any means, but the eating area isn't really that big and there's always extra people so we're always either trying to make an alshap with the table or extend it and then it's going into the entryway and the living room and it's very contrived and clunky and [SPEAKER_02]: claustrophobic, even though it's a big space.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I got this idea for that weekend. [SPEAKER_02]: Joel is just the real time sure he is. [SPEAKER_03]: Anything that starts with I got this idea. [SPEAKER_02]: I got this idea here. [SPEAKER_02]: And the day is person to switch the living room, our little tiny living room, it's so small, fire place room, and the dining area.

[SPEAKER_02]: bring in the big sectional sofa and the coffee table into where the dining room table is in the kitchen. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like orderves in table and I'm not alone cooking and then put the dining room table in the fireplace room with a fire and the big chandelier and like it totally like it's a dining room [SPEAKER_02]: Right?

[SPEAKER_02]: Joel? [SPEAKER_02]: In Spanish, Shay. [SPEAKER_02]: Joel, let's make the woman happy. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it'll be me. [SPEAKER_02]: Move in the furniture. [SPEAKER_02]: You can bet. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that is, that's always a tricky point. [SPEAKER_03]: Fitting people. [SPEAKER_03]: I've, in our little house, I've just had to accept that.

[SPEAKER_03]: The squishy, bumping shoulders, clunky pieces are just part of the charm. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're like, we're like Kate wins lead in the holiday, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's charm, and then there's, I don't know if it's a little gnarly sometimes, but we got those big, my people are bigger than yours.

[SPEAKER_03]: Big people, my own, if I just call him a man boy, because he's still a boy, but he is. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a big guy on stage, it's a fun stage, fun stage, fun stage. [SPEAKER_03]: I ran into my sister at Costco this morning and I just I felt I came back feeling so [SPEAKER_03]: blessed to live near Costco.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_03]: So sorry. [SPEAKER_03]: I said that up. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_03]: Angela lives a long way from the Costco. [SPEAKER_00]: But I did. [SPEAKER_03]: And by the time we didn't have like enough, thank full feeling of I just spent too much money. [SPEAKER_03]: But I feel so grateful to be able to push this car of beautiful, healthy food to my to my car and to have what I need to make [SPEAKER_03]: make this happen.

[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and I'll tell you this year it's getting a little bit trickier for us because, you know, Georgia cannot eat any dairy and it's interesting people don't really understand what any dairy means. [SPEAKER_02]: Can she how I just put a little bit of butter in it? [SPEAKER_03]: No, can she have butter?

[SPEAKER_03]: No, can she have cheese? [SPEAKER_03]: No. [SPEAKER_03]: did it come from them? [SPEAKER_03]: I said, if it came, no, that's what I would say. [SPEAKER_03]: If it came from a mammary gland, she cannot have it. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: And Angela and I were talking about this earlier.

[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we both had six sick kids for various reasons. [SPEAKER_03]: And [SPEAKER_03]: In the moment, when you look on somebody else's situation and you say, oh, like, you run a cooking community and you can't cook with butter or cheese or cream during the holidays, what are you going to do?

[SPEAKER_03]: When you have a when you have a kid who benefits from a certain let's call it a medicine quote, a medicine, okay, in this case, the medicine is not having dairy. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't really think twice about it. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, yeah, I'll do that of course I will. [SPEAKER_03]: I think I'm the mom.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take care of her and I'm going to make sure everybody brings food in here either. [SPEAKER_03]: It's marked or as something she can't eat or suits it. [SPEAKER_03]: So all that's to say, stew and I do not eat potatoes any sweet potato, but that's fine. [SPEAKER_03]: Like somebody else is going to bring them mashed potatoes.

[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody else is going to bring this sweet potato casserole. [SPEAKER_03]: I guess I stupidly didn't factor in sweet potatoes to that. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah, and also there's a lot of other things. [SPEAKER_03]: Hiccama, for example, is in, oh, sorry. [SPEAKER_03]: The potato family, there's all kinds of things within this same potato group.

[SPEAKER_03]: We don't need any white sugar or any white sugar products, so that means cane sugar, brown sugar, molasses. [SPEAKER_03]: And is that that one is conviction or is no that one is also an intolerance with grains grains we eat a lot of grains so I just said you know what to to keep it simple.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, it's just zero, zero cane sugar products in our house. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay, but you're so no, like soak a tan or whatever that's well, but you can do maple and honey and you just this is so easy in the house. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's easy date sugar because I'm not sure you maple sugar and they do any honey.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's enough. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a nothing burglar. [SPEAKER_03]: Until you go shopping at Costco and you're like oh my gosh beautiful free-striped strawberries. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh look sugar. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh look You know this sausage. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Look sugar.

[SPEAKER_03]: Oh look beautiful packs of Christmas salami. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh look non-fat dried milk powder like yep once you and once you realize that dextrose which is a super inexpensive cheap cheap cheap chemically processed potato sugar [SPEAKER_03]: everything. [SPEAKER_03]: That's everything. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well.

[SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, blah, blah, blah, blah. [SPEAKER_03]: That's fine. [SPEAKER_03]: It's just I also have a couple of gluten free people in our family. [SPEAKER_03]: But I'm like, you know what, you're either going to just be like, okay, well, what can we make and how can we make it so that everybody can enjoy it?

[SPEAKER_03]: Or you're going to sit here and be all sourpost about it. [SPEAKER_03]: And you're going to have a miserable time [SPEAKER_02]: Right, so I opened up no one knows that that's like a, I mean, that's a challenge. [SPEAKER_02]: That's like, whoa, it tapped in over come. [SPEAKER_02]: What are we doing here?

[SPEAKER_03]: Some, how, but some of it's not so dairy free pumpkin pie pretty simple when you use coconut cream, um, delightful enough. [SPEAKER_03]: gluten-free pie crusts. [SPEAKER_03]: Pretty simple. [SPEAKER_03]: Gotta watch that potato starch in them, but you can do them. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna do a beautiful green bean salad that has like an olive oil and red wine vinegar, vinegar, with some homemade crispy fried onions, so it's not gonna be the [SPEAKER_03]: Drinking cream of mushroom green beans salad, but that's fine.

[SPEAKER_03]: Right. [SPEAKER_03]: I did a recipe in the cooking community this month called Winter Salad that has beautifully like thin-shaped like mandolin shaved radicchio and robbeats. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, heck yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: You can you can put it great in it if you'd like like some quinoa or some rice or something of the sorts very hardy and very yummy dried currents.

[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I also do flank steak, beef flank steak. [SPEAKER_03]: That's my favorite. [SPEAKER_03]: I know, my two, I like beef up mashed potatoes. [SPEAKER_03]: Right, have them for people who can eat them. [SPEAKER_03]: They should eat them and the people who can't won't. [SPEAKER_03]: So we'll have that and then my mom will make a stuff thing.

[SPEAKER_03]: You know, a few other things like that. [SPEAKER_03]: But once I sat down, I just, you took me probably 25 minutes, I spreadsheet the whole thing who's going to make what and I just thought, you could have just sat here and been sour about that. [SPEAKER_03]: for the next two weeks and put it off, cause you didn't want to figure it out.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and aren't you glad you didn't? [SPEAKER_03]: Cause now you feel, I went to Costco feeling like, yes, I know what I need to get. [SPEAKER_03]: I know what I'm in charge of, I know what I'm looking for, and if all all comes together, it's gonna be beautiful. [SPEAKER_03]: It was really good reminder.

[SPEAKER_03]: What are you gonna make? [SPEAKER_03]: Is your mom coming? [SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_02]: No, I do think it's giving just us and Aden's people. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: His friends, okay. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't have people. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And then we'll probably go to my mom's the next day.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I think. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then somehow I got to figure out if I can get the girlfriend's parents over here for dessert sometime over the weekend. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: Something, okay, we'll see. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no Thanksgiving is, I don't like to share it.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't like sharing holidays quickly, frankly. [SPEAKER_02]: I haven't, like since Aden was like 10, I was like, yeah, and we're done here. [SPEAKER_02]: I just want to do my own. [SPEAKER_02]: But, yeah, Thanksgiving is, I love it. [SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't like turkey.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's so boring. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't like turkey, but I usually do one. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then Like a big lasagna or something. [SPEAKER_02]: I do some whatever Tenderloin or lasagna pasta. [SPEAKER_02]: I always make some sort of pasta in there and we'll see [SPEAKER_02]: One year for our kids, they don't like me to get to create it, but I don't do green being yes or all or anything like that, you.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, mashed potatoes stuffing is my forte. [SPEAKER_02]: I love my stuffing and yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: That's my favorite. [SPEAKER_02]: I could just eat the whole thing myself. [SPEAKER_02]: I love to fry it the next day. [SPEAKER_02]: Those like, you know, people with microwaves, they do not know what they're missing.

[SPEAKER_02]: Big cast iron skillet, a stick of butter and you just put all your leftovers in there and make them all crispy and fabulous all weekend long. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_02]: That makes me so happy. [SPEAKER_03]: Duck fat. [SPEAKER_03]: An incredible substitute for butter in holiday foods.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so I found my duck fat when I cleaned my freezer out. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, duck fat. [SPEAKER_03]: It's that's what you got to go for. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so Angela spent a good chunk of time this past week cleaning out her freezer. [SPEAKER_02]: Great cleaning. [SPEAKER_03]: Rage cleaning.

[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked about in the podcast before old-anch, old-shay. [SPEAKER_03]: These are real people who live in our minds, by the way. [SPEAKER_03]: And if she says, oh, I spent all day cleaning right for user and making an inventory of everything. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, there she is. [SPEAKER_03]: There she is.

[SPEAKER_02]: There she is. [SPEAKER_03]: Look at her shine. [SPEAKER_02]: Gosh, I was, I had done shown. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, so I have this situation where I have, I wrote about my substack the other day was about this. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, some smoothie, a hollocks in the house, to my sugar, and they, they open the bags of berries, and they let berries spill everywhere.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then they sort of like flip it over. [SPEAKER_02]: And then they close the door. [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And this has been going on month after month, after month, after month. [SPEAKER_02]: And every time I open the freezer, it's worse. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking when, when will I do this?

[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, it's ideal in the summer. [SPEAKER_02]: You unplug it. [SPEAKER_02]: You will it out into the driveway. [SPEAKER_02]: You have at it. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, that didn't happen. [SPEAKER_02]: and it just hit a fever pitch the other day I opened it and it apparently had been open for like three days and it was legit a solid wall of snow and ice.

[SPEAKER_02]: Top to bottom, a few lone blueberries on the bottom, a few like bags of like the tops of Costco veg bags sticking out like save us. [SPEAKER_02]: And I just went crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: I just like I stormed over to my toolbox. [SPEAKER_02]: I got a hammer and I just like I just started beating the snat out of the, I'm like, what am I going to do this has to.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then that just, it just, I was just going to put a dent in it, then I decided I'm going to go crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: I ripped everything out, and I got like towels, laid them all over the floor, I'm throwing bags, I'm finding porter houses and stuff that I didn't even know. [SPEAKER_02]: We had it so pitiful, then I thought, well, there's a little freezer right next to that.

[SPEAKER_02]: I might as well do that one. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And so half of my inspiration was that I have the sun so bad. [SPEAKER_02]: I've trained my husband to the grocery shopping. [SPEAKER_02]: Which is amazing. [SPEAKER_02]: So I've made a master list and it literally says Now turn right at the end of this aisle and I and your belly button you will find the avocado mayonnaise I'll look up and do the left and you will see the quinoa in all the words just because it's a pretty big grocery store that we go to and then we go to Costco [SPEAKER_02]: so he did that for me a few months ago and he could see I was really busy last week he said you know I could do that again if you needed because when I go it's an hour and it's three hours of driving and then all the shopping it's then that's just so difficult when you're you know doing the level of homeschooling now everybody's getting older it's not like when they were four and you got cut out for the day you know it's just so different

[SPEAKER_02]: So, he was doing that for me that day, and I thought, okay, I'm going to inventory this, so I brought my laptop out, like, props to the door open, I typed everything, I said, I had a kid by that point, I had a kid helping me, and we'll Julie and help to me bash out some of the ice, because my wrist got so tired, he's like, mum, would you like some help?

[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_02]: And then another child came and, like, would pick up the stake and she would read me the label and so I put it in this spreadsheet for Porterhouse is three T-bones, whatever, whatever. [SPEAKER_02]: And then I wrote down everything that he was buying and everything that was in the fridge and worked up a whole menu to just like eat everything we have.

[SPEAKER_02]: And... [SPEAKER_02]: That's the good stuff, man. [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like so, I feel so clear and the meals have been fantastic and there's no stress around them. [SPEAKER_02]: It's all inventoryed. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it just, I love spreadsheets make me so giddy. [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm wondering, I used to do this.

[SPEAKER_02]: I used to do this all the inch. [SPEAKER_02]: When all long time ago I had it taped to the front of the Fraser's. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's how many kishes are pre-made in here. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's, I just used to inventory on my food all the time. [SPEAKER_02]: So yes, it feels really good.

[SPEAKER_03]: And all this on everything feels easy again. [SPEAKER_03]: It's not about because I had a conversation with you on like Monday and you said we are out of meat. [SPEAKER_03]: Like I have to go on a meat run. [SPEAKER_03]: I got to go get some meat. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I couldn't see it. [SPEAKER_03]: I have taken on, I think we've talked about this.

[SPEAKER_03]: I've taken on the challenge of eating through our [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: This year because we need to redo the shelving, and when those are completely laid in with jars, it's very difficult. [SPEAKER_03]: So every like half-eaten box of pasta, I'm looking in my cold room and I'm thinking every jar of salsa Verde is getting the other day I made [SPEAKER_03]: two jars of my green chili or my salsa verde down.

[SPEAKER_03]: That kind of a thing. [SPEAKER_03]: Jars of tomato sauce. [SPEAKER_03]: It's [SPEAKER_03]: exhilarating. [SPEAKER_02]: That's how I've felt. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think I've shared with you too that I just had had a really, a big point of frustration in the kitchen. [SPEAKER_02]: I've got the youngest, naturally, the pickiest.

[SPEAKER_02]: People don't eat as much as I think they're going to anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: Aiden's not here. [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like there's never anything to... [SPEAKER_02]: to eat. [SPEAKER_02]: It's so far to get groceries. [SPEAKER_02]: I just thought I've just been telling my husband for months like the thrill is gone with food.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not feeling it. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not feeling it at all. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't [SPEAKER_02]: I used to, I used to just love it, love putting on the apron, love going to it, and that just had gotten away for me, and not all my fault, just life changing, but to take control of what I could take control of, it's only been a few days.

[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, it may sound, you know, simplistic or whatever, but, um, [SPEAKER_02]: Dang yeah, I just yeah now I'm a sucker for a plan to so now there's a plan. [SPEAKER_02]: How now I know what's in there and I know what can be made with it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Did we talk last week about going to the market.

[SPEAKER_03]: I here I remember if that was on here on my cooking community call, but I'm. [SPEAKER_03]: You gotta find ways to keep the thrill up in the kitchen. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, you've said it on the phone and here. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Just like getting the fresh, the couple shallots, just something to keep it fresh.

[SPEAKER_03]: So even if it's not, we've talked before on the podcast about like, okay, great. [SPEAKER_03]: Good, a Walmart and get the bottom shelf, cheapest lentils, if that's what's in the budget and on the menu, put them in a nice jar, [SPEAKER_03]: You know, take your apples out of the plastic bag, put them in a bowl and take the stickers off.

[SPEAKER_03]: Get a new candle. [SPEAKER_03]: Hang up an old garland that you get a good will shift something around. [SPEAKER_03]: Put out of cover or tape some a clean washcloth and a candle like whatever it takes because you have to set the mood for yourself. [SPEAKER_03]: You have to set the mood and I don't think that can be overstated and [SPEAKER_03]: I think by design, we relax into things when we feel comfortable.

[SPEAKER_03]: When we're in panic mode, in the kitchen, let's say. [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, Dan. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, just come along here. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, hi, my hand. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi. [SPEAKER_00]: Hi. [SPEAKER_00]: Tell us a hi. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Dan, hi. [SPEAKER_00]: She says hi. [SPEAKER_01]: Every time we do the show I'm gonna cry he comes over like for a quick errand He's here for 30 seconds.

[SPEAKER_02]: He happened last week. [SPEAKER_02]: He happened the week before. [SPEAKER_02]: I hear his truck pulling. [SPEAKER_02]: I hear his truck pull out. [SPEAKER_02]: I've seen him for like 10 minutes in the last two weeks. [SPEAKER_02]: Tell him just to wait. [SPEAKER_02]: He can't. [SPEAKER_02]: He's probably got a job.

[SPEAKER_02]: I've any time he's in such a hurry like that. [SPEAKER_02]: He's got a [SPEAKER_02]: get to somebody's vehicle or something. [SPEAKER_02]: Poop. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, let's say thank you to American Blossom Lennon's, also a sponsored season 26. [SPEAKER_03]: Angela, can dry her eyes for a second.

[SPEAKER_03]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: Talk about setting the mood. [SPEAKER_03]: Set the mood in your own bedroom and your own bed with American Blossom Lennon's sheets. [SPEAKER_03]: These are made right here in the United States from West Texas, grown cotton. [SPEAKER_03]: There's no imported blends, nothing synthetic, no harsh finishes, no chemicals.

[SPEAKER_03]: There was that sportscaster years ago in his famous tagline, was like, Cooler than the other side of the pillow. [SPEAKER_03]: That's kind of what hurt to us, I'm sure it's our like. [SPEAKER_03]: And you can get 20% off of your set of American Blossom Lens with the code holiday 20, you should send your husband this link and tell him that this is what you want for Christmas because these are the kinds of things that will last they're not going to end up in the landfill and you can get 20% off of your set of sheets.

[SPEAKER_03]: Juliet, I would like everyone to know years, a couple years ago, I shared the story of Will cutting holes into my American blossom sheets because he wanted to be a ghost for Halloween. [SPEAKER_03]: And I would just like everybody to know that that sheet was recycled and somebody else went as a ghost for Halloween this year.

[SPEAKER_03]: So even that was not waste waste not want not that's right. [SPEAKER_03]: They're timeless. [SPEAKER_03]: And they're going to be a wonderful addition to your bedroom into your bed and you can get 20% off, American BlossomLinan's.com. [SPEAKER_03]: and use the code holiday 20 for 20% off.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, yes, so we're talking about setting the mood in the kitchen. [SPEAKER_03]: I think we need to do the same for the holidays if you're hosting Thanksgiving or holiday events. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a ton of work. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so yes, set that aside. [SPEAKER_03]: How do you get yourself in the mood for a ton of work?

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it has to be clean, okay, for me, like if you're asking me, it has to be spotless to start. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: And behind the scenes has to be spotless. [SPEAKER_02]: So we have our boot room right off the kitchen. [SPEAKER_02]: That's got to be clean too. [SPEAKER_02]: That's just the way my brain works.

[SPEAKER_02]: I can't see. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's a sink out there and there's a countertop. [SPEAKER_02]: It's got to be cleaned off. [SPEAKER_02]: The behind the scenes, the cooler will need to be tidied up. [SPEAKER_02]: And I did treat myself to, I've got some new tablecloths and linens in the shop, so I got some for myself.

[SPEAKER_02]: And we desperately needed new silverware and new cups, so I did invest in that for the family. [SPEAKER_02]: And we've actually been using those, so it's been really just sort of like elevating our meal time experience, which has been nice music. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, clean apron. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: I need to be comfortable while I'm cooking. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, all those things, it's kind of like just my little checklist and and then what I don't like is I do like to be alone in the kitchen when I'm making dinner until it's like those last seven minutes, any dinner, last seven minutes, then I think I say to people, okay, I can't.

[SPEAKER_02]: set the table and finished dinner. [SPEAKER_02]: It's I have to have some help here. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to pull this off. [SPEAKER_02]: But around the holidays, I don't like feeling like I'm banished to this space. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, everyone else is doing things so I'm keen for my switcheroo idea.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and the windows have to be open because I get so hot fresh air fresh air is a big one. [SPEAKER_03]: And we have a fire place in our kitchen. [SPEAKER_03]: So I love having a fire going because it makes it feel like there's life there. [SPEAKER_03]: And I also want to be cooking foods that I'm excited about.

[SPEAKER_03]: I got want a recipe that I feel like, oh yeah, I get to play it like this or even if it's a board recipe, then do I have a pretty dish to put it in or [SPEAKER_03]: To do this. [SPEAKER_03]: I think they're like they can be very small things, but This winter solid that I make that we made in our cooking community.

[SPEAKER_03]: It it has golden beats [SPEAKER_03]: that are cut on a mandolin, so they're super, super, super thin, right? [SPEAKER_03]: And people seem to like, like, like, it's just a beat, but it's just a yellow one, right? [SPEAKER_03]: And it's just like the silliest, smallest little thing, but it makes me excited to do it, because then it's a super colorful salad, so it's very visually appealing, and it catches people's attention, so it's just nice.

[SPEAKER_03]: It's just like a super simple little thing, but it's nice. [SPEAKER_03]: It's good. [SPEAKER_03]: It'll be just great. [SPEAKER_03]: Also, I was going to tell you, I can't remember if I said this, but when you're I call me to turkey, like cooked it in duck fat, and it was out of this world.

[SPEAKER_03]: So if, like, if you're thinking turkey boo, you still do the same thing like you do with duck coffee where you like salt it with thyme and bay and pepper, and, et cetera, for a couple of days, you break it into pieces, and then call me it in duck fat. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_02]: So I can see that might be worth a try.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm just not like, well, I mean, I love .confique, but I'm just not a poultry person. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll eat it, but I don't ever crave it. [SPEAKER_02]: I made fabulous chicken last night. [SPEAKER_02]: It was delicious, but it's, but I would eat. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, tenderloin. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, just saying that this throwing some oysters in a glass of champagne. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: We're all good. [SPEAKER_03]: Some paté fried on the top. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Perfect. [SPEAKER_03]: The region that I go to in Italy, they eat a lot of basically steak tartar.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and so almost every bistro or restaurant will have some version of it on the menu and it's the same It's really paired back. [SPEAKER_03]: So you're talking about like Just the meat maybe a few of Rugal leaves salt pepper olive oil like so simple [SPEAKER_03]: I will always get it.

[SPEAKER_03]: If it's on it, like I will always get it because an egg yolk or no, no, no, it's a pair of things. [SPEAKER_03]: You eat it and it's like within three and a half minutes, like I can feel that red meat hit my bloodstream. [SPEAKER_03]: Like I'm ready for that's that type of blood. [SPEAKER_03]: I think like you just you crave it.

[SPEAKER_03]: I try to do that one year for Thanksgiving that got vetoed. [SPEAKER_03]: I make it for our baby. [SPEAKER_03]: Everything I try to make is for feed. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, do you guys remember, last year I tried to have a big Italian thing giving that got vetoed, this year I was going to do a gigantic, I have a whole lamb that I have set aside to butcher, to age myself, to roast over a spit.

[SPEAKER_03]: That got vetoed. [SPEAKER_03]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm making a turkey, turkey covered in tears. [SPEAKER_03]: Let us know your Thanksgiving plans won't you, right? [SPEAKER_03]: We've had a couple of requests for conversation about little's during the holidays, little ones, little ones under foot, so let's talk about that next week.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, children. [SPEAKER_03]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to go back and read some of my old Thanksgiving posts on the block to try to remember. [SPEAKER_03]: I'll try to get into the the mindset. [SPEAKER_03]: I'll method act for you guys mindset. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: We were funny.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think the conversations have been very [SPEAKER_02]: They feel like her and I are just talking on the phone and you are listening in, and those are my favorite.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's really good enjoying that, and it's a little for next week, and that's next Monday. [SPEAKER_02]: We need to get caught up, circle back around, and grab a few that we've done so far for season 26, and we'll see you next week. [SPEAKER_02]: Cheers! [SPEAKER_02]: Cheers!
