[SPEAKER_00]: Ladies and gentlemen, yay, we're back, total. [SPEAKER_00]: We're so happy to be back here with you. [SPEAKER_00]: If you are new around here, you found yourself on Home Maker Sheep Podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Shay Elliott, joined by Angela Reed, we are the co-hosts of Home Maker Sheep Podcast.
[SPEAKER_00]: A podcast that is going to be celebrating its sixth anniversary in just a few ups. [SPEAKER_00]: How's that Angela? [SPEAKER_00]: Crazy. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, let's just October, November, December, January, February, March, in five months. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like almost half a year.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like my kids like they want to talk about their birthday a half a year. [SPEAKER_01]: We're like, don't rush it don't just chill out. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, the podcast you know five and a half years old that is crazy I feel like we should all listen to the themes, you know, it's been a few weeks since we said that this microphone it's been a hot second [SPEAKER_01]: Feel like I know the audience just heard the theme song, but like I probably should have like listen to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's that called like? [SPEAKER_01]: What's the song? [SPEAKER_01]: It's something song when you listen to it to oh, yeah, you're rev up song. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's got a pop culture name. [SPEAKER_01]: What's that? [SPEAKER_01]: Dang it. [SPEAKER_00]: Any walkout? [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Shoot. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, none of the less. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: But yes, um, we should, it's good. [SPEAKER_00]: It's good to be back. [SPEAKER_00]: It has been a minute since we sat down together. [SPEAKER_01]: And then because we recorded a batch to give ourselves a little packing time.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's right. [SPEAKER_01]: If you're brand new to the show, Shay and I each were out of the country, leading our subsequent, or our subsequent. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't. [UNKNOWN]: I don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: I live by the find my app. [SPEAKER_01]: I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: I'd probably like the equivalent of chat GPT where it makes people stupider Like I don't I'll find it with the find my don't worry about it Here's where you set your phone down don't put it in the same place every day I have one of my keys I have my phone obviously and then do some little airtags when you travel.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, they confused me [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, those came in handy this time. [SPEAKER_01]: I have just a monster of a story to tell so I'm gonna try not to monopolize the whole show But yes, it's been a long time since we sat here, and it feels good. [SPEAKER_00]: It feels really good This is the podcast where we are rescuing the art of home making from the daily grind So when we started this podcast Whatever 25 seasons ago now.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't I don't actually know what season is I've given up. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a new no season a little block of episodes [SPEAKER_00]: that we like to do. [SPEAKER_00]: We do 10 episodes. [SPEAKER_00]: We take two weeks off. [SPEAKER_00]: We do 10 episodes. [SPEAKER_00]: We take two weeks off.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's how we've traditionally done it. [SPEAKER_00]: But when we started this, what's so interesting and I know a lot of you are here right now is that we have little kids. [SPEAKER_00]: We still have we were potty training and and [SPEAKER_00]: doing all the kinds of things. [SPEAKER_00]: And that has changed just in that five and a half years when your kids are really little, you think it's always going to be that way.
[SPEAKER_00]: You think you're going to have little kids forever. [SPEAKER_01]: And we each had four year olds when we started. [SPEAKER_01]: We got that for a year old pause and think about that. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, that is. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And now we have nine and a half year olds that are doing all kinds of things by themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's wild. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, we, I, I read through the comments. [SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to do a, we're going to try. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to say we're going to try. [SPEAKER_00]: No promises. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, we just have a lot to cover today. [SPEAKER_00]: So just, you know what just get a glass of tea or whatever it is and sit down because we're going to be covering a lot of ground today.
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I would like to start by reading some comments. [SPEAKER_00]: okay because I want you to know how much we value you now I think we got to like we got to deal with the elephant in the room it's been a minute since we updated our room yeah like I can't get in you can do it I can't get in and I got locked out I can't [SPEAKER_01]: Um, we've hired help.
[SPEAKER_00]: They can't get it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's we're having some. [SPEAKER_00]: We're still trying. [SPEAKER_00]: We're having some problems. [SPEAKER_00]: We're having our website got hacked and taken down and now there's like no record of it. [SPEAKER_00]: There's things going on. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, um, in all of that, we still want you to know that we really, really value you.
[SPEAKER_00]: We value your email. [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes we get the kindest letters. [SPEAKER_00]: written to us and are in our PO boxes. [SPEAKER_00]: We get incredibly kind, Instagram messages, incredibly kind reviews. [SPEAKER_00]: Not always kind. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about some of those today too.
[SPEAKER_00]: But just please, no ladies. [SPEAKER_00]: Even though we do not have it together, we have never claimed we see you. [SPEAKER_00]: And we do see you. [SPEAKER_00]: That's right. [SPEAKER_00]: We do see you and we really do value you. [SPEAKER_00]: It was incredible. [SPEAKER_00]: Angela was, you know, we had to catch up for a couple of hours yesterday because it had been weeks since we had gotten to talk just as friends.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of the women on Angela's trips were podcast listeners. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and all of the women on my trip, we had five women, five men, but all of them were podcast listeners. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is an important place. [SPEAKER_00]: People find it important for different reasons, but but thank you for being here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we are trying, we are trying to get back to Instagram. [SPEAKER_00]: And YouTube, should we talk about YouTube? [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just gonna talk. [SPEAKER_01]: Please don't. [SPEAKER_01]: Please don't. [SPEAKER_01]: Should we say thank you to Branch basics really quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'll dive into a few comments. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's do that. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: who's saying things to me. [SPEAKER_01]: I will say thank you to BranchBasex. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you what. [SPEAKER_00]: So you need BranchBasex, and that is the Italians. [SPEAKER_00]: Italians believe in me and very heavily fregranced cleaners.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow. [SPEAKER_01]: We used the washer and dryer at the villa, and truly, that's like, what is that smell? [SPEAKER_01]: I said, that my dear is French laundry detergent. [SPEAKER_01]: That's right. [SPEAKER_01]: It's intense. [SPEAKER_01]: Your face. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want that. [SPEAKER_00]: And you don't need that in your home either. [SPEAKER_00]: You can shop branch basics and use the code home maker sheek for 15% off their starter kits. [SPEAKER_00]: If you're new, you get a bottle of cleaner concentrate. [SPEAKER_00]: It's plant-based, non-toxic, hypoallergenic completely free of fragrances.
[SPEAKER_00]: Therefore, air go, hormone disruptors, preservatives, baby and pet safe. [SPEAKER_00]: It's really, really clean, really, really effective. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't believe it until I used it, but it does actually cut Greece way better than your standard fragrance. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, cleaners.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't touch it. [SPEAKER_01]: It nooks the stove top. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm really, really, anore tentative about my stove top. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: For ever spraying it, please. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: And the cost-effective. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you get your bottle of cleaner concentrate and you get your little squirt bottles, you know, you dilute it down with water to different ratio. [SPEAKER_00]: So a heavier ratio for the bathroom, a little heavier for the kitchen, almost nothing for windows, etc. [SPEAKER_00]: Homemaker Sheek, all one word is the coupon you can use for 15% off your starter cat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Start a kit, not cat. [SPEAKER_00]: And you can clean your laundry with it. [SPEAKER_01]: We're back. [SPEAKER_01]: Petta, say it, there you go. [SPEAKER_01]: Meow! [SPEAKER_00]: OK, do you want me to read a comment? [SPEAKER_01]: OK, comment. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's read a nice one. [SPEAKER_00]: OK, so for the record, I took these today from Spotify, comments, and from Instagram messages.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not only going to read kind ones. [SPEAKER_00]: But I am not going to just read blatantly mean ones. [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't like your face ones. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't get to be red. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: We are humans. [SPEAKER_00]: So, um, here we go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, Elizabeth. [SPEAKER_00]: You ladies can't know what an uplift it is for me to belly laugh along with you and things get silly and how much I appreciate hearing how you live your lives on purpose. [SPEAKER_00]: It encourages me so much. [SPEAKER_00]: I love that. [SPEAKER_00]: There were lots of these.
[SPEAKER_00]: When Angela and I are just sitting here talking, we don't fully know who we're talking to. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, like we can't see all your little faces on a grid. [SPEAKER_00]: And so when it lands, that makes me really happy. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I do, I do like the feedback about the silly episodes, you know, because we also don't know like what we're going to say and we don't know what's going to be funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know about you, but I don't get enough laughter. [SPEAKER_01]: I crave laughter. [SPEAKER_01]: It's one of the reason why I scroll Instagram, like in the bathtub, so I can just watch funny reels and. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm left, like that belly laugh is just such a beautiful part of life.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if we give that to people every once in a while, hooray, yes, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's another one from Amanda. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I do think it's very interesting that Shays, okay, flashback real fast. [SPEAKER_00]: We did try to talk to a couple of episodes ago, okay, that's what Amanda's talking about.
[SPEAKER_00]: that she has to leave the room. [SPEAKER_00]: I kept listening for the reason why and never heard a good argument. [SPEAKER_00]: If something has that much of an effect on you, there's usually a reason. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we can't say the reason out loud, or maybe we have an aversion to something in particular, or maybe I'm just psychoanalyzing a little bit too much.
[SPEAKER_01]: You need a black. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I have to do so for Shay. [SPEAKER_00]: I know where I'm from. [SPEAKER_00]: My dear, I know what happens to you when you hear. [SPEAKER_00]: I remember, I don't like the first, one of the first memories I remember having is a little kid. [SPEAKER_00]: I was at a cabin with my daycare lady.
[SPEAKER_00]: There was a bunch of kids. [SPEAKER_00]: I remember it had multiple stories. [SPEAKER_00]: And I remember the Beatles Blackbird was playing. [SPEAKER_00]: And I couldn't find my daycare lady. [SPEAKER_00]: And I hate that song. [SPEAKER_00]: I love the Beatles. [SPEAKER_00]: I'd really dislike Blackbird because it triggers that feeling of like weird loneliness.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Confusion. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of one thing about the sound. [SPEAKER_01]: If I could bust out like a Freudian accent right now, I still would. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't like, I'm afraid, you know, I don't want to be able to relax. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's why I'm just watching the sound of music or something.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure, but um, sorry, Amanda, I don't, I don't have a good argument. [SPEAKER_00]: If you, I know you were listening for one, this is just pure a version. [SPEAKER_00]: There's no reason. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like people who don't like eggplant.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I just don't like it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not gross. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like leather and mushery together. [SPEAKER_01]: What? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I can't believe you're saying this and I do not like eggplant. [SPEAKER_00]: If anyone's listening from my cooking community, they know that one of the goals of the cooking community is to help people like eggplant.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, don't ever visit Sicily or your squirt. [SPEAKER_00]: I, yeah, right. [SPEAKER_01]: Between tomatoes and eggplant, do I really want to go to it? [SPEAKER_01]: No, the joke is just like they say melonsana, up and down the menu. [SPEAKER_01]: Melons, that's what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: That's all you get.
[SPEAKER_01]: You should see me like I like Italian food if it doesn't have tomato chunks in it. [SPEAKER_01]: So when I I'm like scanning Italian You know, we have a couple of really nice Italian restaurants up here. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, where's the stuff without tomato? [SPEAKER_00]: I accept the challenge I accept challenge.
[SPEAKER_00]: Are you kidding me? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't do a few more. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, this one, I've been listening for five years since I was a vegan. [SPEAKER_00]: And you're still with us.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm fabulous. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if she became a vegan while she was listening or if. [SPEAKER_00]: She wasn't again five years ago, and then is now not a vegan. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I think she's just saying we haven't offended her that much. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't know if this could be taking a lot of ways.
[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of way. [SPEAKER_00]: Jamie E. A. [SPEAKER_00]: B. Jamie E. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm glad you're still here. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we've like shame to vegans. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we have shame. [SPEAKER_01]: Come on, hopefully. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, not I'm perfect. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'll shame you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not liking eggplant, but that's because you're answering. [SPEAKER_01]: Did you get my text about the blazer? [SPEAKER_01]: Did you see my head blazer comment? [SPEAKER_01]: Shea rock to blazer. [SPEAKER_01]: I. [SPEAKER_01]: More. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like whoa. [SPEAKER_00]: What is happening?
[SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I found it on clearance. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't know why I feel like it. [SPEAKER_00]: Um. [SPEAKER_01]: I felt for the for the record. [SPEAKER_01]: If you're brand new, I love blazers. [SPEAKER_01]: They are a staple in my wardrobe. [SPEAKER_01]: And Shea says she feels too masculine.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, here's something I'm learning about. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm only five seven. [SPEAKER_00]: Apparently that's tall for a woman. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, it's tall. [SPEAKER_00]: I skunk. [SPEAKER_00]: I come around and I'm just I will you. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like hugging these wonderful women at my retreat.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like I'm just this Madman Swallow you You are shorter than I am. [SPEAKER_01]: I am five four [SPEAKER_01]: And so I do feel like Which I think guys are actually yeah, but no I actually when I see pictures of me and because I wear them all the time like in Paris I'm like this morning.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like reviewing pictures in photographs Oh, that's not the best look [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but I love them. [SPEAKER_01]: So I actually think they probably would look better on you. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I like this one because the color.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just love the color. [SPEAKER_01]: The color is fabulous. [SPEAKER_01]: The color is like the bright green, the green, the color green, and it's tailored in. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like a three-quarter sleeve. [SPEAKER_01]: What is fabulous? [SPEAKER_00]: Elements that made it feel really nice to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: I, um, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was fun. [SPEAKER_00]: It's fun to try new things. [SPEAKER_00]: We had this woman who came on our getaway her name was Pai. [SPEAKER_00]: And she had expressed that she didn't like truffles. [SPEAKER_00]: One of the things we did was go truffle hunting and then we have dinner or lunch back at the restaurant that these brothers own.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that morning, so I had a range for her to have like a non-truffle lunch. [SPEAKER_00]: She said, you know what, I'm just kind of feeling it. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, let's try, I want to try the truffles. [SPEAKER_00]: Gosh, freaking smother me in truffles, man. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's shave them over my pot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Shave them over my body. [SPEAKER_00]: So, we go truffles hunting. [SPEAKER_00]: We come back. [SPEAKER_00]: They make us this handmade egg pasta. [SPEAKER_00]: They literally bring the truffles over. [SPEAKER_00]: Then we dug up that morning. [SPEAKER_00]: They're shaving them over. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and pie loved it. [SPEAKER_00]: And she pulled me aside later and was just like, you know, [SPEAKER_00]: It's so good to try things that you're not sure about because oftentimes you find that you actually like that. [SPEAKER_00]: So she had been convinced that she did like truffles.
[SPEAKER_00]: She tried them in a different way. [SPEAKER_00]: If you think truffles taste like truffle oil, like truffle fries that you'd get in a pub, not what I'm talking about. [SPEAKER_00]: There's so gentle. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, the point was, it's good to try new things. [SPEAKER_00]: It's good to try new things.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Here is a comment from RevB. [SPEAKER_00]: I think this one came from Spotify. [SPEAKER_00]: For the first time since you've been doing homemaker chic podcast, I had outside advertisements at the beginning and end. [SPEAKER_00]: What's up with this?
[SPEAKER_00]: To that, I say, yay! [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, like that means that companies like the show and want to work with us. [SPEAKER_01]: It also means we can hire people to keep figuring out the Instagram problem. [SPEAKER_01]: So the podcast is growing and we have some really fun. [SPEAKER_01]: That's best word, fun plans for 2026 and that costs money.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel really blessed that new companies are literally knocking on our door sending us emails saying like, hey, can we be a part of what you're doing? [SPEAKER_01]: So they're a little different than the Sponsor Red adds, like those are people we have like Janet, American Blossom, Emily, it tubes people who have a rapport with and we have had for a long time, but like the bumpers that you hear of when Ad gets plopped in the middle, we ask you to celebrate with us.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's a good thing. [SPEAKER_01]: And if it really drives you sound of music crazy, just hit fast forward. [SPEAKER_00]: Sound of music crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I think [SPEAKER_00]: You know, the interesting thing about podcasts is because we just, we have these mics and you and I are just sitting here at our desks chatting.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how we want it to feel. [SPEAKER_00]: We've asked for a lot of feedback over the years and one that we always get is that your favorite episodes are the ones where we just sit here and chat. [SPEAKER_00]: So you just get to eavesdrop in a way on the conversation of two filmmakers who.
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but the reality is that behind the scenes like even to just upload the podcast to places right costs us right. [SPEAKER_00]: And so we love you, but um, we still have to, but you have to sit through ads. [SPEAKER_00]: The podcast still has to, it has to make sense. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll just talk on the phone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, this is from Providence. [SPEAKER_01]: Girl, I love this one. [SPEAKER_01]: This is, we must have been ahead of it. [SPEAKER_01]: We had this conversation about TSA, which we have a feeling we're going to talk about.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, here in a minute. [SPEAKER_01]: And Shays telling this. [SPEAKER_01]: horrible story about like sausage and bay leaves getting nicked from the TSA agents and all kinds of things And she says there's something about my face. [SPEAKER_01]: They don't like And this writer writes TSA, ma'am your face is connected to our habitual offenders list Please step into this room It's true.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're like we see your face. [SPEAKER_00]: You look like the type of person who might try to eat a pound of Parmesan cheese every day. [SPEAKER_00]: What's in your suitcase, ma'am? [SPEAKER_00]: I will say, though, this time coming back I was very careful about what I brought because I didn't want to go back to the second room because it's offensive to land in your country in a city that's two hours away from your house.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, you are now our hostage until we approve your suitcase. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't like that feeling. [SPEAKER_01]: I had the weirdest thing happen. [SPEAKER_01]: This is not part of my big drama story. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait to share. [SPEAKER_01]: We stood in line to get back in at Chicago [SPEAKER_01]: At one point, the line just stopped way before the countertops.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I went up to a camera. [SPEAKER_01]: It took like the most horrible picture of me that's ever been taken. [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, OK, you're good to go. [SPEAKER_01]: And he handed me like a green plastic thing, like the cover of my cap. [SPEAKER_01]: And it said, like, EP, P, or something like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting that wrong, probably. [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, just give this to the next person you see, or the next exit. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, and I'm in. [SPEAKER_01]: We're done. [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't stamp. [SPEAKER_01]: My passport didn't get stamped. [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have to talk to anyone.
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have to go up to the counter. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the same thing happened to me in Seattle. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm standing at the luggage like, does anybody want this plastic piece of paper? [SPEAKER_01]: Who do I give this to? [SPEAKER_01]: Are you gonna- That's all they did. [SPEAKER_00]: They took my picture and they go, do you have anything to declare?
[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, no, they're like, okay, have a good day. [SPEAKER_00]: So then we go down and collect our luggage. [SPEAKER_00]: We just walk out the exit, Stu and I are looking at each other like, we're getting away with murder! [SPEAKER_01]: It's so weird! [SPEAKER_01]: That was so weird!
[SPEAKER_01]: Why? [SPEAKER_01]: I just kept looking, what is it? [SPEAKER_01]: I said, Juliet, go watch the other people and have those. [SPEAKER_01]: See what they're doing. [SPEAKER_01]: She goes, they're just walking out. [SPEAKER_01]: They're just setting it down and walking out. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's so cool!
[SPEAKER_00]: These are our costumes. [SPEAKER_00]: Was closed. [SPEAKER_00]: No! [SPEAKER_00]: It was just completely closed off, and there was a director there who just said, have a nice day. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Seattle. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, here's such a nightmare. [SPEAKER_01]: So I just felt like I was, okay, okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I could have wrote some pursuit to, oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, me and me and TSA, we got a thing. [SPEAKER_00]: We got a thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so guys, thank you for your comments. [SPEAKER_00]: Some lovely ones, some not lovely ones, but that's okay. [SPEAKER_00]: That's okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're here for the people who want to be here, aren't we? [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but please do send them in, send them via Instagram messages and I or our help that we are hiring. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll help us to select something to share on the podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: You can also submit them over on Spotify while you give the podcast a rating.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's really helpful to us. [SPEAKER_00]: Costs you nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: Zero. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but thank you. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, for our line LA, you want to go first? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, I want you to go first. [SPEAKER_00]: I want, I'm going to, she hasn't, she's not been willing to tell me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I still literally, so we talked on the phone for like two hours yesterday by poor family. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, get away from her, I forgot to turn a month. [SPEAKER_01]: I got to have this conversation. [SPEAKER_01]: My ear buds are going. [SPEAKER_01]: Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's about an hour from where we were staying. [SPEAKER_01]: And the night before for me was just like a little stressful as the hostess because I'm looking at my phone, I'm looking at my phone, I haven't gotten a confirmation text from my transfer agency. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's the biggest part as the hostess for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I can fix anything, I can smooth anything out during the week. [SPEAKER_01]: But like if you don't get picked up from the airport on time or you don't get your flight, those are the two, like most stressful. [SPEAKER_01]: Just ruminating in my head where I just can't let it go until everybody's on the plane, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So that was finally I got a text. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we're coming. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know [SPEAKER_01]: in Chicago. [SPEAKER_01]: We saw a ton of worried about the first group out and then I was the next group and driving to Marseille in the dark. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like green bait airport, holy po-dunk Batman, so easy compared to Paris, so easy compared to Chicago.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is a breeze. [SPEAKER_01]: We were [SPEAKER_01]: We were there a good two and a half hours early and it took us just 10 minutes to get through. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, well how much shopping do you want to do and eating and staring at the window? [SPEAKER_01]: Um, turns out our, excuse me, our flight was late.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm sitting there listening to the lady on the phone next to me and she's speaking French and like, oh boy, she's complaining about a late flight. [SPEAKER_00]: So wait, you and the six people are flying together from Marseille to Paris. [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, we've entered the airport together.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, like the people I came within my transfer because like a group went earlier and then we kind of split into our respective gates. [SPEAKER_01]: So this is actually just Julia and I. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I see. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So it looks like our planes about a half hour late and I had a very, very small, like, I swear, I need to get out my boarding pass.
[SPEAKER_01]: I swear it was like a 20 minute layover in Paris. [SPEAKER_01]: It was so short. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was an hour, maybe I'm exaggerating when I say 20 minutes, and that's what it ended up being the whole story's so traumatic, you'll see why that I would get that detail confused, but it was a short, you can't even get it for a plane, especially in Paris.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, and I should preface this whole story with I've traveled a lot, and I have done this route Paris, Tishikago, a lot, and I've never I don't have any real horror stories. [SPEAKER_01]: I've ran a few times. [SPEAKER_01]: I've had a couple like rude flight attendants Whatever She's setting up that guy's mostly I just have fantastic stories.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've never had like a big just like oh my gosh, you know story [SPEAKER_01]: So I figure it's like I was too plain slate. [SPEAKER_01]: I see when I can only assume by his size. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a large Dutch man go up and talk to the the counter and say like, hey, I have a really short layover in Chicago.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can hear him. [SPEAKER_01]: I can go talk to them too. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like sure my boarding pass, just like you'll be on in 10 minutes. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to leave. [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be about 25 minutes late. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, then we're just out there, taxiing, just doing loops for forever.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're never going to Paris. [SPEAKER_01]: It's an hour. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a two hour flight. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Finally, we get in the air. [SPEAKER_01]: The guys like, [SPEAKER_01]: We make it in like an hour and 10. [SPEAKER_01]: Whoa! [SPEAKER_01]: What is he's like, I'm gonna do my best to get you to Paris on time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Whoa, it was nuts. [SPEAKER_01]: So... [SPEAKER_01]: I'm still stressing that we're in row, we're in steer edge. [SPEAKER_01]: We are in row 33, on this plane. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's no way we're going to make this flight. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no way. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm getting ready to use my subjunctive hypothetical text.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm like, I'm ready to throw down. [SPEAKER_01]: Some French firm tenses here in Ask. [SPEAKER_01]: Do you think we can make this flight? [SPEAKER_01]: And just as I'm like getting ready to like wave to an attendant a man kind of goes around him. [SPEAKER_01]: He has a security badge on and he just goes Chicago like that's me [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like he says follow me.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they get our bags and they move us to the front of the plane. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I like this friend like this right. [SPEAKER_01]: This is right on our descent. [SPEAKER_01]: So there's an older gentleman sitting next to me. [SPEAKER_01]: He only speaks French. [SPEAKER_01]: I said, you don't check out these like, yeah, how are we going to pull this off us.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know we're going to do our best. [SPEAKER_01]: So they let us off the plane first. [SPEAKER_01]: We, like, I know my way around Charlotte to call. [SPEAKER_01]: Toad, like, it's not, and it's pretty easy. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, the science, I know people complain, but the science are pretty good, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Juliet and I are full on running, like making idiots out of ourselves. [SPEAKER_01]: sweating, boobs, flapping, like, running through this airport. [SPEAKER_00]: I hope there's vomit involved at some point. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: We're running, like, we look like psychopaths.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where the old guy is. [SPEAKER_01]: We're so thirsty, you know, traveling, I don't know about you, but like I have to drink water. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm miserable. [SPEAKER_01]: My legs cramp. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm always in the back doing like yoga because I just am miserable when I fly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I dig in out my purse while I'm running. [SPEAKER_01]: I get out 10 year old. [SPEAKER_01]: I go into one of the little shops that's right by our gate. [SPEAKER_01]: I grab two bottles of pelligree. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm like, I don't know, like, my damn, two bottles, 10 year old, slap it on the counter and I run.
[SPEAKER_01]: I cut in line, like in front of people. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, wait, wait, I'll give you your change. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, don't worry about it! [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was like something out of a movie. [SPEAKER_01]: I go running up to the gate, like panting panting, and I can see like this woman is not having it, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: And everything that I'm telling you is happening in my very best French. [SPEAKER_01]: She says the flight's closed. [SPEAKER_01]: I said, no, no, no, no, no, we're like surely you knew we were coming because you have our love and you have our luggage, like, and I said, there were other people from Chicago, like headed to Chicago, they're probably behind us.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, they're all here, madam. [SPEAKER_01]: And she pulls this like, madam card with me, finger wagging. [SPEAKER_01]: I said, you have to let us on this flight. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, madam. [SPEAKER_01]: And then the French, I love them. [SPEAKER_01]: But when they do this, say impossible.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's impossible. [SPEAKER_01]: That's their favorite thing to just shut it down. [SPEAKER_01]: I said, no, it's not impossible. [SPEAKER_01]: The plane's sitting right there. [SPEAKER_01]: All you have to do is just let me on. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm, and I'm sweating. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sweating.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm panting. [SPEAKER_01]: And then she says something about my duty free bags because we had duty free from Marseille in our hands, okay? [SPEAKER_01]: Okay? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I missed something because I'm not, I'm good, but I'm not that good apparently. [SPEAKER_01]: And I said, yeah, this is, so I just respond, yes, this is obviously duty free.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she's talking to her other person, what, is it just let us out? [SPEAKER_01]: Now you've wasted 10 minutes, just let me on the freaking plane. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, she's so, then she goes, why would you get duty free if you're late? [SPEAKER_01]: Then I had to apologize. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, that's my French skills.
[SPEAKER_01]: I missed a word. [SPEAKER_01]: This duty free is from Marseille. [SPEAKER_01]: I did not buy this duty free here. [SPEAKER_01]: I would never waste that kind of time. [SPEAKER_01]: Knowing that I'm like once again, could be on the plane by now. [SPEAKER_01]: You know. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_01]: Full argument. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: She finally let's us on. [SPEAKER_00]: What? [SPEAKER_01]: I think. [SPEAKER_01]: Why do what I think? [SPEAKER_01]: I don't just like just do it to begin with. [SPEAKER_01]: What I think happened where there were two [SPEAKER_01]: flights from Marseille to Paris.
[SPEAKER_01]: 20 minutes apart. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think she thought I was on that first flight. [SPEAKER_01]: Until she took my boarding pass, because then when she took my boarding pass, their conversation got really hush, hush, and I think they were realizing their air. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: But nonetheless, she did say everyone else is on.
[SPEAKER_01]: I said, that's impossible. [SPEAKER_01]: I was sitting next to an old man. [SPEAKER_01]: There is no way [SPEAKER_01]: up, obviously I went the wrong way. [SPEAKER_01]: I did an extra lap around the airport or my dad. [SPEAKER_01]: It has to be my fault, you know, but nonetheless, the stupid plane was sitting there.
[SPEAKER_01]: She finally let's us on. [SPEAKER_01]: We have to do the walk up, sweaty shame, through it. [SPEAKER_01]: Through the plane, right? [SPEAKER_00]: I know this walk. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh boy, I know this walk. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm done. [SPEAKER_01]: What do we do? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: You've done the walk-up and then you guys got to go find this episode when I did the walk-a-shame I had run so hard that I proceeded to vomit in the bathroom while I was doing the walk-a-shame to make it even more incredibly shameful.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we sit down and then of course we sit there for an hour while they load the bags that are still not from the Chicago bound Marseille flight. [SPEAKER_01]: Of course, of course we beat the bags. [SPEAKER_01]: We did it in like 12 minutes, you know. [SPEAKER_01]: So I was so mad because none of that would, you know, obviously the bags weren't there yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Whether the old man beat us or not or it took us, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: So we sat there for the better part of an hour, finally took off. [SPEAKER_01]: And we got to. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, here. [SPEAKER_01]: weird experience with the green plastic card right standing waiting for our luggage have you know time goes by i'm like hmm standing waiting for our luggage i glance over to the side i see my old man i went up to him i said your luggage isn't here yet is that he's like he doesn't speak any English like no it's not here [SPEAKER_01]: I said, and I had one working air tag out of six bags.
[SPEAKER_01]: Six bags may do. [SPEAKER_01]: I said, yeah, it's in Paris. [SPEAKER_01]: You could still see it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it didn't even get on the plane. [SPEAKER_01]: So the bugger is, I was, I had Julie at with me. [SPEAKER_01]: My mom at this moment was driving down from Wisconsin with Amelia.
[SPEAKER_01]: Amelia doesn't have that much big city driving, so we didn't want her to drive because we're going to stay that night. [SPEAKER_01]: And then Friday night, we have a concert at the United Center. [SPEAKER_01]: and then we're gonna go home Saturday morning. [SPEAKER_01]: So, like, lots of clothing and things are in my bags.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't go to this concert. [SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna get all gussied up for this concert and go have fun, and this is really bad. [SPEAKER_01]: So, I, [SPEAKER_01]: We leave the airport full of loose and fancy-free with just our garyons and our little green plastic card. [SPEAKER_01]: And we're pretty stressed by this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're tired. [SPEAKER_01]: We've been awake for 24 hours. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm walking up to where I park and a few hotel, you know, I do like a extended stay parking. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think to myself, wouldn't that just take the cake if I had a flat tire? [SPEAKER_01]: flat, no way, freaking awake.
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it five seconds before I saw the tire. [SPEAKER_01]: Why? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: So I call Joel like okay, there's no insurance card in the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Of course not. [SPEAKER_01]: But we have roadside so he had to send me with the insurance.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he sent me all the information. [SPEAKER_01]: I call roadside assistance. [SPEAKER_01]: We said there was like 45 minutes for roadside assistance. [SPEAKER_01]: This is something like an international flight. [SPEAKER_01]: I've been a week since like that's what I'm saying to 4 a.m. [SPEAKER_00]: The game is getting my people out the door.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you know, yes of what you're talking. [SPEAKER_00]: It sounds so small. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like having to get gas on your way back. [SPEAKER_00]: You're like, I can't do that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, no. [SPEAKER_01]: Just like whenever time you're listening to this podcast, just pretend, I don't know, you were in a car until tomorrow at that time.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean, flying in the sky, you know, it's just, you've argued in a foreign language, you know, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: So. [SPEAKER_01]: So I call roadside assistants, we used it for 45 minutes, it's rush hour in Chicago, you know, this guy's never going to get here. [SPEAKER_01]: He gets there.
[SPEAKER_01]: He gets out and he goes, well, I'm going to need you to move this truck because he's a big guy, okay? [SPEAKER_02]: He's a big guy. [SPEAKER_01]: It in a way he's fitting between these two vehicles. [SPEAKER_00]: So he wants you to drive it on a flat tire. [SPEAKER_01]: So I said, you know, I'm just a girl, but I don't think you're supposed to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: it'll be okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Just go really slow. [SPEAKER_01]: So I get in the truck and I just I couldn't do it. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, gosh, Juliet, I know better. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I watch enough NASCAR. [SPEAKER_01]: You can't do this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I get out.
[SPEAKER_01]: I said, are you sure? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, he said, just drive really slow. [SPEAKER_01]: And then, like, two spots down for me was like a thoroughfare. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it wasn't even just like backing up 10 feet. [SPEAKER_00]: He wanted to drive in one and two different parts. [SPEAKER_01]: I know people can't see me like back up and then just move like two spots down to where there was much.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, well, that's a different conversation. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no. [SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I, I do it, right? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm dry, I go so slow. [SPEAKER_01]: So we said there were playing with our phones. [SPEAKER_01]: I can hear him the spare on the suburban is underneath, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: is he doing down there?
[SPEAKER_01]: He's not even near the tire. [SPEAKER_01]: Finally, I get out and I'm like, everything okay down there? [SPEAKER_01]: He goes, I can't get the spare down. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my God. [SPEAKER_01]: You can't get the spare down. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can't get it down. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, well, so then I call Joel.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like Joel. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm sure Joel is my name is phone calls by the way now. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like now I'm I've lost my Christianity at this point because like I'm I got to go home. [SPEAKER_01]: I got to go to the hotel. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm tired. [SPEAKER_01]: So I call Joel.
[SPEAKER_01]: I said, you know what, I'm going to hand it to you to my husband because I'm very tired. [SPEAKER_01]: He goes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so am I. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, sir, you can please around. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_01]: So, so Joel tells him just cut it off. [SPEAKER_01]: Just cut it down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay? [SPEAKER_01]: So, hangs up, I go get back in the vehicle. [SPEAKER_01]: Then he comes around, tap, tap, tap. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not allowed to damage the vehicle, even though you guys said I could. [SPEAKER_01]: It's an old rusty spare tire. [SPEAKER_01]: I really don't care could you just call your boss?
[SPEAKER_01]: Could you just please cut it down and I'm in the truck just saying to Juliette Aiden would fix all of this Aiden would fix all of this Aiden would rip that tire down from the bottom of this. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I just was like Aiden would fix this. [SPEAKER_01]: I just can't say it So then he goes he comes around again chain.
[SPEAKER_01]: He goes I am not allowed to damage the vehicle my boss my boss won't let me You're gonna have to call a tow truck [SPEAKER_00]: Great. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for your help. [SPEAKER_01]: And then he just like he just turned on his heel and he left. [SPEAKER_01]: And he just walked away and drove away.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I called Aden and bless his heart within like 30 seconds he goes, I'm coming down there. [SPEAKER_01]: What? [SPEAKER_01]: Four and a half hours from home. [SPEAKER_01]: So. [SPEAKER_01]: We get that all squared away. [SPEAKER_01]: That's about seven phone calls between he, Joel and I, and, you know, he's going to bring all his tools down.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, I'm, because nothing's open at this point. [SPEAKER_01]: Now it's like quarter to eight at night. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my gosh. [SPEAKER_01]: And you're in Chicago, I'm sitting in the dark for you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, no, it's like, oh, it's not Chicago. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's the airport, whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, so. [SPEAKER_01]: I call an Uber. [SPEAKER_01]: I have a hotel in Arlington Heights. [SPEAKER_01]: I tried to find the cheapest, non-funky as hotel because we have to be there for two nights and we have to do these Uber's for the concert and we have to buy restaurant food.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, this is gonna cost another $1,000. [SPEAKER_01]: I gotta find a hotel with free parking. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not too far from everything, you know, 40 minutes from the United Center, what I want to, whatever, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: Get to the hotel. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, hmm, what?
[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't nice neighborhood, right? [SPEAKER_01]: It's not, it's not in a bad neighborhood. [SPEAKER_01]: We walk in, like, some shady's going on in here. [SPEAKER_01]: We're so tired. [SPEAKER_01]: By this point, Amelie is at the hotel. [SPEAKER_01]: She's met us there. [SPEAKER_01]: And no, she's not there yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's on her way because she went out with her friend that lives in the area. [SPEAKER_01]: So, we get up to the hotel room. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at the clientele. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, in the lobby though while we're waiting, I lean over to Juliet and I go, that's a prostitute. [SPEAKER_00]: She goes, no, it isn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yes, it is. [SPEAKER_01]: I promise you watch. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So we go up to that hotel room. [SPEAKER_01]: Shea, there's like pubic hair all over the toilet. [SPEAKER_01]: No, there's not to be so bad. [SPEAKER_01]: No, there's not to take a towel and wipe it off.
[SPEAKER_01]: I had to go so bad. [SPEAKER_01]: I call the front desk and like look, there's no TV remote. [SPEAKER_01]: There are pubes all over the bathroom. [SPEAKER_01]: Like the phone doesn't work. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no dial tone. [SPEAKER_01]: You have to come up here. [SPEAKER_01]: And like could we just move next to it?
[SPEAKER_00]: Business is good tonight. [SPEAKER_01]: That's good tonight. [SPEAKER_01]: So he comes up and brings this cleaning lady, Eric quote, who's in the room for like two minutes. [SPEAKER_01]: Supposedly, supposedly close to at this point, I don't even care. [SPEAKER_01]: Aiden's on his way down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Amelie's on her way over. [SPEAKER_01]: She's not like, [SPEAKER_01]: situations like this, we're like, don't tell a lot of me about the hair. [UNKNOWN]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_01]: We order like Chipotle. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to do some emotional American eating. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, wait, it's weird. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just kidding. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: When recording a show, it's not for you to say hi this time. [SPEAKER_01]: So we chill out. [SPEAKER_01]: Aiden finally gets down there. [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks him about two hours. [SPEAKER_01]: He rips the tire up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Does this hole switch a room? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I forgot to tell you. [SPEAKER_01]: The guy did try to fill the flat. [SPEAKER_01]: Because I said, can you just try to put some air in it and see if it holds? [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, it's just pouring out. [SPEAKER_01]: He goes maybe there's a slash underneath that we can't see.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just pouring out. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's when he took off and ditched us. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So Ayn goes, obviously, the reason the air was pouring out is because when you moved the truck, the tire slipped off the rim, right? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I told him I didn't want to do that, you know?
[SPEAKER_01]: So he did this whole switcher where he took, he put the spare like on a less vulnerable spot for me because I was gonna be driving home then on the spare, right? [SPEAKER_01]: He worked his magic, he got to the hotel like in about midnight, slept for three and a half hours because he's on fire, shit, shit, shit, shit, get home, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's gave me a kiss in the dark, left, like, God, love you, bless your heart, so on. [SPEAKER_01]: I am so uncomfortable for you right now though like then the next morning I got to get my luggage now Now mind you there's one flight in from Paris every day. [SPEAKER_01]: I told the girls I'm not leaving this city without my luggage I don't want six suitcases full of antiques getting passed off to some Poe dunk shipping company and I get them in four months plus half my wardrobe no So we take an Uber Here's my plan.
[SPEAKER_01]: How did I do this? [SPEAKER_01]: I got a sort how I did this. [SPEAKER_01]: We take an Uber to the airport. [SPEAKER_01]: We get in the Uber. [SPEAKER_01]: We're driving this gal. [SPEAKER_01]: She's really friendly. [SPEAKER_01]: She goes, can I ask you a question? [SPEAKER_01]: We're like, sure, she goes, are you from around here?
[SPEAKER_01]: We said no, she goes, I didn't think so. [SPEAKER_01]: She goes, I was even hesitant to pick you up at this hotel. [SPEAKER_01]: She goes, there's some shenanigans going on up in there. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God. [SPEAKER_01]: said I knew it. [SPEAKER_01]: I knew it. [SPEAKER_01]: She goes, I think most of those people live there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_01]: She this is a comfort in mind you. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm not at a motel eight. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm not that comfort in is great, but it's like a high it comfort in whatever whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: She takes us to the airport. [SPEAKER_01]: I have to go up to the counter and it was this crabby lady that I know she's always at the Air France counter every year.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, oh gosh, I'm gonna get her on tight. [SPEAKER_01]: So I had to explain, by this point, I've received an email saying we have your luggage. [SPEAKER_01]: I can see that it's crossing the ocean. [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's coming in on this next plane. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not leaving the airport without my luggage.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've put in a request that it gets brought up to the counter, not put in some holding room, whatever, whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: I will try to condense this part of the story because they were not having it. [SPEAKER_01]: She's like, it's just landed. [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to take three hours.
[SPEAKER_01]: We both know it's not going to take three hours. [SPEAKER_01]: I know how long it takes. [SPEAKER_01]: for the luggage, okay? [SPEAKER_01]: So we step away from the counter, we get some food, and then we're kind of standing around. [SPEAKER_01]: There's this guy behind me, like totally evangelizing, like literally grabbing people and telling them about Jesus.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, oh gosh, we're next. [SPEAKER_01]: We're next. [SPEAKER_01]: This young man is a former [SPEAKER_00]: Now changed his weights. [SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately he does it by the end of the already lost or Christianity yesterday the flat tire I don't so then so then sure now if he comes to us.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like I love him already Please sir, please sir, then he's like, well, can I pray for you? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yes, you can pray for us. [SPEAKER_01]: So any praise for us? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, no, I'm an any pray for like a half hour. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm in a pray for you.
[SPEAKER_01]: I go, but it ain't gonna be that long. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_00]: Shakes eyes. [SPEAKER_01]: And in the meantime, the French ladies at the airport, at the counter are watching all of this happen, you know, with like sheer disdain on their face. [SPEAKER_01]: we have a very expensive lunch sitting there finally like two and a half hours later I see this little office door open and I jump up and they have our luggage so we take our luggage and we how do we do this now at some point, Shay, I've taken the suburban to a parking garage, put our luggage in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've changed into our United Center outfits because we're going to get all [SPEAKER_01]: And then we take an Uber to the United Center, then we take an Uber back to the parking garage, then we go from the parking garage back to the hotel, and then we get a 430 next really just like, back to the district.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just like this story. [SPEAKER_00]: I think maybe it's like two sewn for me after the travel, but I like the the physical pain of the staleness, and I eliminate them like our 45 percent. [SPEAKER_01]: I just want for for the sake of the audience, who's probably not following it all by this point, [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fly direct. [SPEAKER_00]: That is the moral of the story. [SPEAKER_01]: You can't, you can't fly from there. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I know, I know, you can't. [SPEAKER_00]: But Alaska Airlines is just opening up Seattle to Rome, nonstop flights. [SPEAKER_00]: And I told you if they are double what we normally pay for tickets, I will still do it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because every time you change planes, you introduce so many potential obstacles. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, let's say thank you to Tubes and Co. By the way, by the way, Emily Tubes and her wonderful husband Trent came with me to Italy this past week. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, and there are people, I've known Emily for years and years and years, but [SPEAKER_00]: There are people who are genuinely exactly what they seem like.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Emily and Tripe are that couple. [SPEAKER_00]: They're that couple. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I get one night with like polyester sheets where it feels like you're wearing a plastic Yeah, your body can't breathe. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh Okay, that was my story. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well my story. [SPEAKER_00]: I will I will make it [SPEAKER_00]: less long but but try to share anyway I just you have to share these stories because they need to live on so we set on this podcast for years that things are either a good time now or a good story later okay so true so get another cup of tea um because we're gonna go to Germany never been don't think I really want to go back um so we're driving over to the
[SPEAKER_00]: And on the way over, we get a text that our flight has been canceled. [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, okay, um, what do we do now? [SPEAKER_00]: And they say, well, we're going to get in touch. [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to try to find you another flight. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll get in touch within the hour and let you know when it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, fine. [SPEAKER_00]: So we keep driving to the airport in an hour. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, we can't find you a flight. [SPEAKER_00]: Have a good day. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I have 10 guests waiting for me. [SPEAKER_00]: So I have to figure out how to get there. [SPEAKER_00]: We go to the ticket counter, and this is because we booked through United, we have a Lufthansa flight, and an Erdogan Dolomide flight, and so I don't know what you're telling me to check in on.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I go to United, hey, our flights cancel, and they say, oh, well, that's a Lufthansa flight. [SPEAKER_00]: Go there. [SPEAKER_00]: So I go there, and they're like, well, you booked through United, so you need to go back to the United counter. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I go back there. [SPEAKER_00]: This goes like three or four times back, and finally I said, you will help me now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Your children's children will peg. [SPEAKER_00]: No, it's good, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: And the Italians were striking that day. [SPEAKER_00]: So Erdogan Media was on strike. [SPEAKER_00]: And so there were zero flights to Florence, to Rome, to Bologna, to anywhere. [SPEAKER_00]: Because all of the Italian airlines were shut down.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are all little, like, we can get you as close as Germany. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like, is that what? [SPEAKER_00]: That was like, well, get me to Germany. [SPEAKER_00]: Because now I'm looking up on my phone. [SPEAKER_00]: Can I drive from Germany? [SPEAKER_00]: to central Italy. [SPEAKER_00]: How long is it?
[SPEAKER_00]: How long is it going to take? [SPEAKER_00]: Can I take a rental car over internationally? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: And so this goes on forever. [SPEAKER_00]: Where are the airport three hours early? [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, now I'm thinking, oh my gosh, are we going to make it?
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, I have a map of Italy pulled up on my phone. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, how about here? [SPEAKER_00]: How about here? [SPEAKER_00]: How about here? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, can you get me anywhere within this country that looks like a boot? [SPEAKER_00]: She has no clue what any of these places are.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, well, look, if there's one in Belonia, she's just like, I'm like, B, O, L, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's one flight that's operated by Lutonza. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, two Venice. [SPEAKER_00]: Not even close to where we're trying to go. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I said I'll take it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, they check us in. [SPEAKER_00]: and now instead of having an hour and a half lay over in Germany, we have an eight and a half hour lay over in Germany to get like a thousand miles away from where we're trying to go. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so we get on our flight, we fly to Germany. [SPEAKER_00]: Allswell, we get into Frankfurt, we go through security, allswell, we're killing our eight hours, very boring airport to kill eight hours and incredibly boring.
[SPEAKER_00]: Although I did rent a sleep pod, never done that before. [SPEAKER_00]: But in order to rent this sleep pod, it's like a teeny little encapsulated room with a small twin bed in it, and you pay. [SPEAKER_00]: Get out! [SPEAKER_00]: 15-year-old an hour. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, just sleep. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: But at this point, again, we've already been up for like 24 hours. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So, do when I go in, we share the bed. [SPEAKER_00]: We're completely curled up together. [SPEAKER_00]: But in order to get through the sleep pod, we had to not go out of security, but go out of our like international gate area.
[SPEAKER_00]: But we had eight hours, no big deal. [SPEAKER_00]: Turns out, big deal. [SPEAKER_00]: Because when we go back through security, [SPEAKER_00]: I heard rumors about the German airport. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, I need to make it true. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, the officers everywhere, police officers, with full machine guns strapped over their chest.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have that in Italy. [SPEAKER_00]: Not like that. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: And not nearly ended up in France. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just like, look, could you just chill out a little bit? [SPEAKER_00]: Freaking me out here. [SPEAKER_00]: We go through security.
[SPEAKER_00]: I get through fine. [SPEAKER_00]: Stu gets pulled aside. [SPEAKER_00]: Two officers with these machine guns and two, like normal people, working the off the airline. [SPEAKER_00]: And they pull a box cutter out of his art supply thing that he had, he uses it to sharpen his pencils. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Stu.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, it's a pencil sharpener. [SPEAKER_00]: And the guy's like, well, it could be used for a lot of other things, too. [SPEAKER_00]: And Stu's like, a lot of things could be used for another thing. [SPEAKER_00]: And they said, this is a felony offense so you're going to have to come with us.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh. [SPEAKER_00]: At which point? [SPEAKER_00]: So we're like an hour away from our flight now. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Right? [SPEAKER_00]: Because we've killed time doing all this stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Sleeping. [SPEAKER_00]: I, my stomach drops to my feet.
[SPEAKER_00]: because I'm thinking, I don't trust these people. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, we're gonna take you upstairs. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, hmm, are you? [SPEAKER_00]: Shit. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know you. [SPEAKER_01]: And you don't like the sound of music.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't like the sound of music. [UNKNOWN]: And I don't like the sound of music. [SPEAKER_00]: So we start walking, I mean, they're, you know, they're talking in German back and forth, they're very upset, they're taking photographs of it. [SPEAKER_01]: That would really like, you know, something like that happening in one of our respective countries that we are familiar with, would be one thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: But like, German, I like, I'm familiar. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally unfamiliar, just maybe, but yes, yes, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: And it was, it was Stu's fault. [SPEAKER_00]: He shouldn't have brought it. [SPEAKER_00]: We'd already gone through security, so they were like, you already took this on a plane.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was a big deal. [SPEAKER_00]: And he was like, well, he's like, I didn't know I had, like, I totally forgot it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just his notebook. [SPEAKER_00]: It was just like this little sack of pets. [SPEAKER_00]: I know that he has. [SPEAKER_00]: I know what you're talking about.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know what you're talking about. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so they're like, you have to come upstairs with us. [SPEAKER_00]: And so we start walking and they put their hands up to me like this. [SPEAKER_00]: You're not allowed to come. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's when I started freaking out because separation is death.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're an animal survival mode right now. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't know me? [SPEAKER_00]: And so, Stu's just like, and I'm worried about Stu, because he is a cool cucumber. [SPEAKER_00]: And then, but everyone's in a while when something ridiculous is happening, he gets saucy. [SPEAKER_00]: And I was just texting him like, you'd be nice to these German officers, you'd be nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you were at fault here, you brought the thing that you weren't supposed to find, okay? [SPEAKER_00]: And I go sit down, try and keep my cool, but I'm thinking if he gets held, do I go on to Italy without him? [SPEAKER_00]: Because again, I have ten start working out, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And I have to run all these hypotheticals in my mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: time goes on and on and on and finally I was like I shall now throw up because I was just I'd kind of I'd try to be cool, but it was unnerving you know and at this point he's not responding to my text I don't know where he is. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he's being charged. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if they're going to release him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have no idea an hour goes by and I'm just thinking I have to get on this plane like I have to leave him. [SPEAKER_00]: I have to go, I have to go and meet these these people. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't like just a band in them. [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, about now we're in 15 minutes after they took him back.
[SPEAKER_00]: They released him. [SPEAKER_00]: And he still has to call them in two weeks to see if they're going to press charges. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh no! [SPEAKER_00]: And... [SPEAKER_00]: Even in a national attorney show, apparently I meet one. [SPEAKER_00]: It was by far one of the craziest travel experiences I've ever had.
[SPEAKER_00]: But so Stu is like immediately he's looking up online like how big of a deal is this? [SPEAKER_00]: Cause he had a big thing of paperwork that he got. [SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to guess. [SPEAKER_00]: We made our flight by the way into Venice. [SPEAKER_00]: And it ended up being kind of sweet because I got to meet up with my tutor but we were a long ways from where we needed to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: I had booked the hotel, I booked the car, I booked everything in Florence, the transfers, et cetera. [SPEAKER_00]: redo the whole thing and like four and a half minutes to try to find us like where are we going to sleep when we get there when we're 36 hours into this little adventure anyway right all as well that ends well but yeah they uh the German police that was a new one for us that was a new one and I I don't know I might not should have put this in there might need it for the court I don't know no shame no I have heard that there are South American [SPEAKER_00]: ammunition of any kind, like if you, you know, use a backpack, imagine packing a backpack to use your old hunting, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big deal. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can be held for years. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, period. [SPEAKER_00]: All these kinds of things. [SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, all in all, I'm God that it ended the way that it did and, you know, no, no prostitutes were involved in all our stories. [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, it's like, [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I told you, well, the audience doesn't know this.
[SPEAKER_01]: When halfway through my trip, I get an email that there's been a gas pipeline explosion in Provence and they're moving us to a village, it's like 12 kilometers down the road. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I thought that was my drama point. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, okay, now, because I had to do like you like hustle.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, change drivers, change this, change that, like go, go, go. [SPEAKER_01]: I could have never imagined. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, but seriously, you should travel. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but seriously, come on our trips. [SPEAKER_00]: No, it's, um, we do tell our kids this all the time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, after the, after the moment we were like, okay, he's going to be released and we had gotten on the plane. [SPEAKER_00]: We were going to at least get into Italy. [SPEAKER_00]: I remember thinking, this will make a great story. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, once the, the fear and the, [SPEAKER_00]: Wildness had ended a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, that, I mean, that it's kind of like, is he gonna actually be held? [SPEAKER_01]: That is kind of a big deal. [SPEAKER_01]: It was a big deal. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't cool. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, trying to pull his phone up on my, like, where is he?
[SPEAKER_00]: Being escorted out of the fire. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: You're using the fire in the fire. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just sound and he's like, would you stop it? [SPEAKER_00]: listening to him through the walls, like, please sound connecting. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gracious. [SPEAKER_00]: Luckily for us, all of the horrible, hard things they got over at the beginning once we got there. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was a ton of work, but it was really beautiful. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm glad that the travel things happened. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, they happened when they did.
[SPEAKER_00]: And [SPEAKER_00]: And there's a lot to be thankful for, but I'm telling you homemakers, I'm so happy to be back here with you. [SPEAKER_00]: I was so happy to come home and I stepped into home after being away for a couple of weeks and I just thought this is a beautiful place. [SPEAKER_00]: Like we've worked really hard to make it a beautiful place.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's my mom, she had the kids while we were gone and she came over today and she said, man, they're hard on things. [SPEAKER_00]: She's like they're so good, but they're really hard on things. [SPEAKER_00]: And our house is reflective of that, 10 years since, I'm kind of looking at it with different eyes, especially going into this season where you're allowed to have a little bit more space to just look.
[SPEAKER_00]: at your home because you're we're not looking at the gardens in such quiet as much. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we're going to keep it really simple. [SPEAKER_00]: If you're still here with us, after our stories, we're going to keep it really simple this season and just celebrate holidays as homemakers.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we want to do. [SPEAKER_00]: We want it to be fantastic cozy and sweet and tender and beautiful and wonderful, that's what we want to create here. [SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to, we're just going to hang out together, tell stories and do beautiful things. [SPEAKER_01]: And if any of you know, Karen, the Uber driver, who drives in the Arlington Heights area, please tell her that she gave us a great laugh.
[SPEAKER_01]: But we said that, can I ask you a question? [SPEAKER_01]: We must have said that like 87 times over the next 24 hours. [SPEAKER_01]: Because she about killed us with that. [SPEAKER_01]: You don't look like the kind of people that come out of that building. [SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the things that I know this happens.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure where, oh, that's where. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back next Monday. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad to be back. [SPEAKER_00]: This feels, this feels good. [SPEAKER_00]: So send us messages over on Instagram, send us messages over on Spotify comments if you'd like.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we can have some laughs and chat. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you have a travel quick travel [SPEAKER_00]: That would be good. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, ladies. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see you next week. [SPEAKER_00]: Cheers. [SPEAKER_00]: Cheers.
