Christa Pike

Retired FBI agent and criminal profiler Candice DeLong examines the brutal 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer and the teenager who took her life, Christa Pike. Lured to a remote spot on the University of Tennessee campus by fellow Knoxville Job Corps students, Colleen was tortured for nearly an hour before she was killed. Pike, just 18 at the time, would go on to become one of the youngest women sentenced to death in modern U.S. history. Three decades later, her case made headlines again when Tennessee’s attempt to execute her failed. Candice explores how a childhood marked by neglect, horrific abuse, and instability shaped Pike’s desperate need for attachment and control, and examines how those early wounds may have turned a petty grudge into an act of unthinkable cruelty.
