[SPEAKER_02]: Drop the end to talk about writer die on prime video, Kurt Vile and Kevin Morby, Tory Amos, Jane Kezmarick from Malcolm in the middle, just an example of what you get when you subscribe to the Kyle Meredith with podcast.

[SPEAKER_02]: And that's me, Kyle Meredith. [SPEAKER_02]: And today I'm so excited to be talking with Jane Seymour, Dr. Quinn, medicine woman, living let die, the James Bond movie from 73, somewhere in time, wedding crashes, just to name a few. [SPEAKER_02]: She's she's been starring in the comedy mystery series on acorn tv called Harry Wilde since 2022 and they're back for their fifth season.

[SPEAKER_02]: Let's read all about it. [SPEAKER_02]: Harry Wilde is the Irish detective comedy drama television series starring Jane Seymour as Harriet, Harry Wilde, a retired literature professor with a neck for solving mysteries, and season five marks a highly anticipated on-screen reunion between Jane Seymour and Joe Lando her longtime co-star of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman He played Scully.

[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, Lando joins the most ambitious season yet as Pierce Kennedy, a charming and brilliant new state pathologist who is a rival quickly makes waves in Harry's world. [SPEAKER_02]: As Harry, Ferguson and Charlie are pulled into their most dangerous and complex cases to date, the team takes on undercover operations, chilling murders and relentless criminals all with the help of Pierce, whose sharp instincts and natural chemistry with Harry prove invaluable.

[SPEAKER_02]: Jane and I are going to be talking about that chemistry as well. [SPEAKER_02]: It was her idea to bring to bring Joe on to this series. [SPEAKER_02]: Of course, fans have been waiting for this reunion while ever since the last Dr. Quinn movie. [SPEAKER_02]: It's been a while now. [SPEAKER_02]: Their chemistry is still intact.

[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to be talking about that. [SPEAKER_02]: Have it among the show. [SPEAKER_02]: But also, you know, play in this character for five seasons, tapping into, tapping into Harry Wilde. [SPEAKER_02]: to still find something fresh you know be very easy to kind of call it in at this point she does not do that so we're gonna hear about that and I will nitpick at some of the storylines I'll tell you there's there's an episode that we're gonna talk about where the she's she's sort of the you know talking to this guy from Tennessee and he's a he's a whiskey guy and she's a go Tennessee home of bourbon and that's that same corrects I say from local Kentucky [SPEAKER_02]: So we're gonna tell you about that.

[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I don't know if you're aware of her influence on the music world. [SPEAKER_02]: She had this incredible castle house. [SPEAKER_02]: It was her house, it was a castle. [SPEAKER_02]: And she let all these bands do albums there. [SPEAKER_02]: That includes okay computer from radio head, wild mood swings from the Cures, some new order, Johnny Cash on and on.

[SPEAKER_02]: So that's gonna come up as well. [SPEAKER_02]: All that and more as we discuss season five of Harry Wild on Acorn TV, it's Kyle Meredith with Jane Seymour. [SPEAKER_02]: It's pleasure to get to meet you, talk to you about this series. [SPEAKER_02]: It's so great to see you back in Harry Wild.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I mean, I feel like that's my life. [SPEAKER_00]: It's my world. [SPEAKER_00]: I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like my family. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, when I'm not shooting it, I'm missing them desperately. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, here you are, season five, and that's not nothing.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have this kind of joke about a lot of TV shows when they make it a season five, they just start going in circles, but you all have found ways to keep this fresh. [SPEAKER_02]: For you, [SPEAKER_02]: is it easier to tap back into the character at this point or is it a challenge to kind of find new momentum whether when you when you do it again?

[SPEAKER_00]: No, not at all. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like, you know, Harry's always growing. [SPEAKER_00]: We always have great plots. [SPEAKER_00]: I think season five is our best season yet. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we've established something with bringing Joe Lando in that the fans are loving. [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, that's a wonderful open-ended aspect because we haven't really had any kind of consistent, possible romantic experience for Harry.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, her relationship with her son is really interesting this season. [SPEAKER_00]: where he quits and tries to work for her. [SPEAKER_00]: Rohan Ned, as always, is extraordinary. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's just so much we can do with him. [SPEAKER_00]: We have a fantastic core group, but we have amazing, you know, guests asked that come in.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the Joe Spain who has yet had another, as huge, you know, she's got so many hits right now, we're lucky to have her. [SPEAKER_00]: in her writing for other shows, but also her own literature. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she's the number one or number two in Ireland, in England all the time.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Dave Logan, who created their team, you know, I think the sky is an image. [SPEAKER_00]: I just think we've just cracked the surface of what we can do rather than winding down or going round and round or going or getting boring. [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, it's really a question of if they want more of this or not.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, it's really ready. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's working and I agree with you. [SPEAKER_02]: That is the best season. [SPEAKER_02]: It seems like it's even [SPEAKER_02]: getting more attention with every new season, which is kind of incredible for any show, you know, to yeah, like that.

[SPEAKER_02]: But but you mentioned those stories and everything, um, like how and are you involved at all in in the actual stories themselves? [SPEAKER_00]: Um, yes, to some degree, um, I am, you know, [SPEAKER_00]: and usually year ahead, so actually they've already pre-pitched for, you know, if we were to do a six season, we know exactly what the six stories are.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we always have that, so I'm involved with that, and I had the idea of bringing Joe in. [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the writers had the idea too. [SPEAKER_00]: They really wanted to sort of James Bondy kind of character in there, [SPEAKER_00]: You know, they were having pipe dreams of pierce.

[SPEAKER_00]: pierce prop and I said, that is not going to happen much to see love stalky and just a very close friend of mine. [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a little busy with Helen Marin at the moment. [SPEAKER_00]: But bringing Joe, I think they went, well, let's see. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, they weren't sure.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then when they did, after the first day of shooting, they went, [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, what's that? [SPEAKER_00]: It's like something, another element has happened. [SPEAKER_00]: It's something you're crackling with chemistry here. [SPEAKER_00]: What's happening? [SPEAKER_00]: And I said, well, we don't have seven years of Dr. Gwen, two other movies, all of which we've used here, it's globally.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and everyone's begging us to do more, anything. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I can just do an Instagram post with Joe Lando, where nobody says anything or does anything, but, you know, less than eight seconds. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, for example, this one right now, it's got 1.7 million views.

[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want 1.7 million eyeballs from around the world, you know, cast him, which they did. [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I think it's been hugely successful from what I hear. [SPEAKER_02]: and we'll be right back right after this. [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back, it's Kyle Meredith with Jane Seymour.

[SPEAKER_02]: Did just watching the two of you all again, I mean, as you said, you have that history that must be so interesting to have all of that history as those two characters. [SPEAKER_02]: But suddenly, I mean, what's that dance like? [SPEAKER_02]: Because you get to do something new with each other.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're really good at it. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it really doesn't matter. [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter whether anyone's in good mood or not, or likes one or another, we do anything together and it crackles. [SPEAKER_00]: And, mercifully, our partners are all very happy about that. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know what it is, I mean you don't learn it, you don't study for it, you don't try to do it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It either happens or it doesn't. [SPEAKER_00]: And the character that they've created is so perfect to have a pathologist because that is the detective of the human body. [SPEAKER_00]: So we're now we have two detectives. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, before we had another PA, you know, a PPI, which was lovely and fun and really kind of cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I honestly, I am, you know, I'm literally hoping and praying that that we get to come and do another season because we already know it would be even better than the one we, you know, we're just watching right now. [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see it's up to other people. [SPEAKER_00]: But I know more [SPEAKER_00]: We, like, whole countries, so not that that has to do with A-corn, but it's, it's nice to know that if you can't do Dr. Quinn, you can come up with something completely different that people go, they're saying people who loved that relationship and now going, oh, we love that and we love Harry Wilde and we love Rowan and we love, you know, Ireland and what you're doing.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, [SPEAKER_02]: Well, and, and I'll add on to that, too, because, you know, each episode, of course, like you kind of get, you know, your new villain here with the politician, and that's fun to see that dance, but with each episode, they're being this one little special thing. [SPEAKER_02]: I had one note.

[SPEAKER_00]: Please, I'd love to hear it. [SPEAKER_02]: No, I say this with an eye roll, by the way. [SPEAKER_02]: Episode three, it's the whiskey one. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm in Louisville, Kentucky. [SPEAKER_02]: And in it, you, the guy says he's from Tennessee, and you say home of bourbon.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I went, well, hell no. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh hell no. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't hear. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, what can I tell you? [SPEAKER_00]: They're Irish and English. [SPEAKER_00]: They probably didn't do their research appropriately. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll have to remedy that somehow. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how, but.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's it's small beans in the in the whole scope of it, but I kind of laughed at that and then I did want to ask because episode four, it's where you're doing as they say the Scottish play and I wondered how superstitious you were because you have no problem it seems say or your character doesn't and I'm maybe that's the loophole.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you see, I think she's not supposed to really necessarily, well, she knows, right? [SPEAKER_00]: But she knows that the Scottish play has that issue, right? [SPEAKER_00]: What, that she will actually say MacBeth? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, she's not in the play. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it only applies to the actors in the play.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I know, because I played Lady M, very early in my career, when I was far too young to be playing Lady M, I played her in repatri, and in two-week rep. [SPEAKER_00]: So, and I remember that whole kind of thing you can't say it, and you're not going to believe this. [SPEAKER_00]: But why we were rehearsing, one of the major characters fell off the stage and had to be replaced before the opening night.

[SPEAKER_00]: There it is. [SPEAKER_00]: So I have personally witnessed it in two-week rap, which is a really, first was really hard to do my bath well in two-week rap, when you're actually rehearsing it during the day while doing another major play at night. [SPEAKER_00]: For eight trips. [SPEAKER_02]: She's yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, people say, did you train? [SPEAKER_00]: How about actually doing [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's more training than, you know, can I, will I be good enough for Disney or something? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: It's in my opinion, anyway. [SPEAKER_02]: You get your battle scars early.

[SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: You do. [SPEAKER_00]: And as I said, yes, we did, we did have an accident. [SPEAKER_00]: And somebody did fall off the stage. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think broke a leg or something. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, not, I mean, bad enough that he couldn't be in the play anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: And someone else had to very quickly learn the stuff.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't help with the superstition right there of anyway. [SPEAKER_02]: I know I've probably only got another many here. [SPEAKER_02]: I just wanted to outside of the show. [SPEAKER_02]: I've had a lot of musicians on my show, and I just want to thank you for your contribution to music with albums from my right radio head and the key to our new order all recorded at your house.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and now a new one just got recorded by a group called Twin Finn from Hawaii and they have a hit called California sober and it was co-written and produced by my partner John Zambetti son called Johnny Zambetti [SPEAKER_00]: And he recorded it here in my house in Malibu. [SPEAKER_00]: So my Malibu house is now got recording going on all the time.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a huge hit. [SPEAKER_00]: And you can look that up. [SPEAKER_00]: And when you listen to it in the beginning before they start singing or playing, you will hear my frogs. [SPEAKER_00]: So whoever the record label is, decided that Johnny San Betchish should do a few more tracks for them.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think now a whole album, whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's also doing other people. [SPEAKER_00]: But he has his own group called The Poms, which is fantastic. [SPEAKER_00]: So there's music everywhere in my house. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, literally, I... [SPEAKER_00]: I trip over pianos and guitars everywhere.

[SPEAKER_00]: My son Johnny Keech is also on, uh, he just put something up on Instagram and Spotify. [SPEAKER_00]: So yes, it all all gets recorded around here. [SPEAKER_02]: And we'll be right back right after this. [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back. [SPEAKER_02]: It's Kyle Meredith with Jane Seymour. [SPEAKER_02]: How did you, how did that start happening?

[SPEAKER_02]: What made you think I'm gonna open my house and it becomes this incredible muse for a lot of artists. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, these albums are some of the greatest albums of all time. [SPEAKER_02]: Right, and there's more to come, right? [SPEAKER_00]: What's this space? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, actually, I had this huge castle that was over a thousand years old and when I wasn't there, sometimes I rented it out to private people and I was asked if I wanted to rent it to a group called the cure and I went, I looked at them and I thought, I'm not sure about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, then they came to do okay computer, then the cure came back as club seven was there Johnny Cash was there John Barry was there We had the best sound in England. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a vibe in that house that was unbelievable and we have the same vibe here in Malibu so [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know whether it's me or the sound or just happenstance, but I'm the most in music.

[SPEAKER_00]: I did the Glenn Campbell documentary, I'll be me. [SPEAKER_00]: We shot most of it a lot of it here, I was all involved with what the line, I worked on that for 11 years, although I was not credited, but my now ex-husband was, I'm very involved in music. [SPEAKER_00]: I do not play any of it and I don't sing, but I am definitely amused and amused by [SPEAKER_00]: The tellers that surrounds me, my, my, my fiance Johnny, John Zambetti, the senior one has a lot of music out on, on, on Spotify and everywhere, and a lot of it's been inspired by, by, by me, called evocation is his album, but it's a, it's, it's musical day here, I mean, obviously middle of the night suddenly a song will come in someone's head and somebody will get up and stop, you know, writing a song.

[SPEAKER_00]: I can say, you know, I can say, what do you want for lunch and I can realize that I'm now on somebody's voice memo of a new song. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's the world I live in. [SPEAKER_00]: I love creativity. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: I do my art. [SPEAKER_00]: We have music, dance, food.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're very creative. [SPEAKER_00]: That's how we roll. [SPEAKER_02]: You seem to be the common denominator in that. [SPEAKER_02]: And again, I do appreciate it for everything that you've been a part of and that does include this new season of Harry wild again. [SPEAKER_02]: It's so great to see you in it.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's so great to see you and Joe just reconnecting and all the fireworks that happen for there. [SPEAKER_00]: But I am too and just so you know we've got them all lined up.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll be watching. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll be watching. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be watching. [SPEAKER_02]: Jane, thank you so much.
