<p><span>Jason Mewes sits down with Kyle Meredith to talk about building a career that’s lasted more than three decades, from his start in Kevin Smith’s </span><em>Clerks</em><span> to the ever-expanding Jay And Silent Bob universe, and now into new territory with his YouTube series </span><em>Five Things</em><span>. The show, set inside a convenience store, uses everyday items as a jumping-off point for conversations that go way off the usual press-tour script, pulling out stories even longtime collaborators haven’t heard before. Mewes also gets into the evolution of his stand-up "Diary Of A Manchild," how sobriety still shapes the way he approaches the stage, and why he’s shifted away from the heavier material toward something looser and more personal. Along the way, he talks about directing </span><em>Madness In The Method</em><span>, revisiting earlier films like </span><em>Drawing Flies</em><span>, launching a </span><em>Murdoch Mysteries</em><span> podcast, and the reality that staying in the business often means creating your own opportunities. [SPEAKER_03]: We're going to be talking about building a career that's lasted more than three decades from his start and Kevin Smith's clerks to his ever expanding Jay and Silent Bob universe.
[SPEAKER_03]: And now into new territory in his YouTube series, five things. [SPEAKER_03]: The show is set inside a convenience store, huh? [SPEAKER_03]: How convenient. [SPEAKER_03]: And it uses, well, it uses like everyday items as a, as a jumping off point for conversations that go way off the usual pressed to a script pulls out stories that even long time collaborators haven't heard before, and Jay also is going to get into the evolution of his stand up diary of a man child, how sobriety still shapes the way he approaches the stage, why he shifted away from the heavier material towards something a little bit looser, a little bit more personal.
[SPEAKER_03]: And along the way, we're going to be talking about directing the movie Madness and the method revisiting earlier films like drawing flies, launching a Murdock Mysteries podcast, and really the reality of staying in a business that often means creating your own opportunities. [SPEAKER_03]: So let's get into it as we discuss five things out now on YouTube.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's Kyle Meredith with Jason Muse. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm on my window magnet thing and I'm, yeah, I could be, sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm in a car because I just left another meeting and I pulled right over so. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, man, it's so great to me. [SPEAKER_03]: Of course, Ben Affan from the beginning days and just watching you do your thing all these years.
[SPEAKER_03]: I know you got a lot going on right now that I want to ask about because not only do you have this new YouTube series called Five Things, which has been a blast to watch, but you're still on the road all the time. [SPEAKER_03]: In fact, you were just recently here in Louisville with Kevin Smith.
[SPEAKER_03]: When you all do that together, is this still your diary of a man-child set up or is it something completely different? [SPEAKER_00]: No, yeah, it's something different, so when Kevin and I, you know, for years, we did get old, which was, it was more based on, you know, Kevin was doing all these podcasts, 15, 20 years.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess about 15 years ago, with his buddy Scott and he did one with Ralph Gorman and all of that sounds like man, I really wanted to do podcast, but I had just gotten sober, I was sober by about, I would say maybe six months, I was sober, and Kevin said, look, I'll do one with you, [SPEAKER_00]: like I want to know why you keep relapse and you're wanting to be accountable and everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like, if we do a podcast, we're going to talk about it. [SPEAKER_00]: And this way you're accountable to everybody we talk to. [SPEAKER_00]: So we did get old and it wind up doing well and lasted almost 10 years or so. [SPEAKER_00]: And then Kevin, we got to a point where we're like, hey, we've told all these stories.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've told about me being sober and I've been sober almost 10 years. [SPEAKER_00]: So we stopped doing it for a few years and that's when I started doing my solo show Diary of a Manchau, which is more of me by myself. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, not by myself, honestly, I, uh, [SPEAKER_00]: I actually have a god of my best friend, one of my best friends, Jake Rubel, who's a comedian, him and I do a two-man show like he does like 20 minutes.
[SPEAKER_00]: I do like 40 minutes and then he gets on stage again with me and we play a game together. [SPEAKER_00]: It's been a blast and that's diarrhea of a man child. [SPEAKER_00]: But Kevin and I started doing another podcast together called the oral sector tour, which if you say a fast oral sex and that's what he liked, but it's a you are a L S E C T, but it's just mainly Kevin and I get in the catch up on stuff because [SPEAKER_00]: Now it's like recent in the last few years when I've had my son and my daughter between me doing dire romance, child and being on the road, going to comic conventions a couple times a year, and then the kids at home, ballet, and gymnastics, and all these different things, him and I rarely get this spend time together.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Kevin's like, I want to do another podcast where we literally just catch up with each other. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh my god, last week, guess what happened to me? [SPEAKER_00]: We're potty training Lucian and you know, he took a dump on the floor. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, whatever it is, it's sort of me telling him how my life's going.
[SPEAKER_00]: What's going on? [SPEAKER_00]: He tells me stories about, oh, I went on this meeting and this happened. [SPEAKER_00]: and it's been a lot of fun. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't we don't do it as often as we were doing get old but we've been doing like four shows five shows every couple months and it's been a lot of fun.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, and that funny as we get older is like the only way to have friends is to schedule your friend. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and you won't be able to monetize it on top of that so that's not bad. [SPEAKER_00]: not at all not at all and it is true it's funny because it's either that or him and I are like getting together we're like hey let's go let's shoot like a bunch of like 10 tick talks together as jam bob and like for your right it's almost like we only get the hang out when we schedule it at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, just to get him, his daughter's grown up, so, you know, it's just him and his wife and they have a different lifestyle right now than me and my wife and my kids. [SPEAKER_00]: And so, it, but it works, because again, we, it's been, now it's been like 33 years we've been friends and still hanging out and still getting to do things together.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's great. [SPEAKER_03]: That is great for us too. [SPEAKER_03]: We all benefit from that friendship. [SPEAKER_03]: It's interesting to see you do the Diary of a Manchelle stuff too, because you're talking about like, you know, you do bring in the darker stuff on that, right? [SPEAKER_03]: Like, you're still talking about like what you went through with addiction and everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not, not as much. [SPEAKER_00]: I did with it. [SPEAKER_00]: So I've changed it now. [SPEAKER_00]: So I had like a set that was to call them [SPEAKER_00]: And it was the same thing my my stand up and I talked more about that stuff, you know, I might tell a story or something from back in the day when I was using this one I sort of tried to I didn't even I honestly actually didn't even want to when I first changed it to dire of a man child.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even want to talk about the drugs anymore because I did get old and then I didn't using stories and told a bunch of stories about drugs and but but [SPEAKER_00]: And I was going to stay away from even mentioning, hey, I'm sober, but I even mentioned this on my show now. [SPEAKER_00]: And the beginning is I realize I still have to mention it because as much as people are like, oh my god, Jamie, who's Jay and Sankham, and you would think most people after so many years, again, I've been July 2nd.
[SPEAKER_00]: So July 2nd, I'll have 16 years coming up, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Even though you would think people would know they don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: So like the first couple shows I did, [SPEAKER_00]: That I didn't mention me being sober, you know afterwards like you'll you want to smoke a joy and let's get some beers, you know, at the is so I'm like I'm like all right, I have to still mention it just so in the beginning of the show I mentioned it and then afterwards people are like oh yeah, you're sober, you know So I don't tell as many dark stories now, honestly the dire of a man child is as I do Read some of my diaries which has been a lot of fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: I found a bunch of my diaries my journals. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say their diaries to journals [SPEAKER_00]: Or what have you from when I was getting sober and rehab and I read out some of the funny [SPEAKER_00]: Stories I found in there like weird things that don't make sense now and then I'll tell a story about what I what I've run and Again most of it's my fit.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's family stuff and it has to do with like hey when I wasn't rehab I wrote this weird stuff about this and and so I guess so far I've been telling funny Stories about being 15 and being a virgin still and things like that more so so right now [SPEAKER_00]: and kids. [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: That's a dangerous company. [SPEAKER_03]: If you go the wrong way on that. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_03]: And we'll be right back right after this. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, come back. [SPEAKER_03]: It's Kyle. [SPEAKER_03]: Here's with J. Muse. [SPEAKER_03]: But so then that arrives and you have this new YouTube series.
[SPEAKER_03]: And here we find you back in the convenience store with five things. [SPEAKER_03]: Where did this concept come from? [SPEAKER_03]: Did the studio pitch this to you or did you come up with this? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, actually, yeah, I didn't come up with it. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, the actual, the guys I'm working with, the producers of the show and director, Jeff Vespa.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a friend. [SPEAKER_00]: I've known him for years, and it just happens our kids go to school together, and same with John, the other producer, they're partners now. [SPEAKER_00]: They opened up a new company together, and they're focusing on YouTube and social media and all that stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're a new company, but they were like, hey, we had this idea and they said they were thinking of other people at first Then they're like wait a sec. [SPEAKER_00]: Mewes started his career in a community store We're friends with them and we see them our kids go to school together and they pitched the idea to me And I'm like wow that sounds amazing like let's try it So we went and filmed and they've been great because I feel like it's what I needed I've been trying to do like a YouTube thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it's almost like I feel like Kevin and I [SPEAKER_00]: have been doing like internet, stop and podcasting way before a lot of other people, but I just feel like we never had the right, like necessarily the structured around that we've tried different things. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the podcast is great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't get me wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: That worked well. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like when him and I are alive, it's like where we thrive is I feel like in front of a live audience. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm saying like it's great because I feel like they really have been [SPEAKER_00]: thinking it through and really doing their research like, hey, this is how YouTube works like let's do 10 episodes and we'll put out five right off the bat.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to put out one because we don't want people to watch nine minutes and then they're like, oh, that was great. [SPEAKER_00]: I want more and then they forget about it. [SPEAKER_00]: So they're like, we're going to put out five and then we're going to hold five and put out [SPEAKER_00]: one every two weeks.
[SPEAKER_00]: So my point is just that I feel like they really have been researching and doing their homework and really, you know, have been thinking everything through like who would be good guest for Jason? [SPEAKER_00]: Are they, you know, are they funny and will they fit together? [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, so I feel like they've really done a good job.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it wasn't my idea. [SPEAKER_00]: It was [SPEAKER_03]: It approached me about it and was like, let's try this and yeah, so what a great concept it is and I say that as someone who does this for living yeah yeah like the fact that you have a catalyst I'll say as the convenience store that you all can just walk around [SPEAKER_03]: and allow your guests to pick up something, and instantly, that's the conversation.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a memory that leads to everything. [SPEAKER_03]: I am so jealous that you have this, not a great way to get a conversation going, I guess. [SPEAKER_00]: and it really has been and I first I was like, I don't know, like, what if there's what if there's nothing in there that that really has them think, but that it really has brought out like I feel like talking there was like one guest.
[SPEAKER_00]: I remember a lot of the guests, of course, I had some kind of relationship with like logic I've worked with before and Kevin of course, and hopefully Quinn and um [SPEAKER_00]: Patrick Adams. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know him, but we met and we just hit it off. [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, there was one guest that I was super nervous about.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I don't know anything about him. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I knew he was on boardwalk and part, but that's it. [SPEAKER_00]: But him and I had such a great conversation because he would pick up something like, oh my God, this reminds me of a boarding school in London at seven years old, and I'm like holy crap.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and it was great because I think it's been pulling [SPEAKER_00]: It's like you said, it's not like just sitting with someone and have, okay, I have a list of questions. [SPEAKER_00]: You've probably been asked maybe four of these questions, but I have two good questions. [SPEAKER_00]: I hope you've never been asked, but like this is bringing out stuff like no one's ever asked someone if they ever ate freaking.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, elephant peanuts or whatever that Melissa but noise picked, you know, like no one's going to say hey, I'm going to ask you this question have you, you know, so I don't know it's I think it really has brought out like some good stories and things that I'm like, okay, hopefully they've never talked about this on any other interview in the last 20 years they've been working.
[SPEAKER_00]: in their careers or whatever and so far I feel like there's been a few sort like I didn't know him in 32 years I never knew about him his parents bringing him to Disney and tell them yeah yeah yeah yeah I want to see I've never heard that before and because of that thing and he told me that story so it's been it really has been such a great [SPEAKER_00]: Concept and so much fun filming them and and it's quick.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say it's great. [SPEAKER_00]: We're able to tell everyone It's Texas, UZ like an hour to film, but like, you know, you figure the drive there or the drive back But like a two hours out of your life and and I play that's also Great because I know even for me when I had to something to do that I'm like, oh, this gonna be fun today But oh, man, I have to drive 45 minutes and then it's gonna be four hours of my day, you know [SPEAKER_00]: it still can be so this has been like all around it's been great stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: So now I watched every episode that's up so far and I was literally taking notes like oh I could I could start asking question that way instead of this way that I love it but but at the same time like you have the convenience store and there's there is like just I guess what like instant nostalgia yeah that comes along with the convenience store.
[SPEAKER_00]: 100% there's so much and this convenience to honestly is so great because it's not only like did they have like you know the normal like donut case and you know all the drinks, sodas and red bulls and liquor they have like a whole toy area and they have a whole like you know scotch tape and diapers and condoms and it's really weird when I walk through the [SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like many, many, many like, you know, Target or something like, because there's variety of everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's, it's very cool. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Isn't LA? [SPEAKER_03]: Is that what you got? [SPEAKER_03]: Where are you guys? [SPEAKER_00]: It's in Glendale. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, which again, is really close to most of the guests. [SPEAKER_00]: It's been pretty close for them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And definitely for me, it's 12 minutes from my place where I live. [SPEAKER_00]: So, proximity to everything. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been great. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's great because Jeff, [SPEAKER_00]: He even has a, he's a photographer, a professional photographer. [SPEAKER_00]: So he is a studio that's five minutes from there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So like sometimes we'll even be like, if someone's like, hey, I got to come in. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to put, I want to do wardrobe changes. [SPEAKER_00]: Or I want to get something to eat before we go. [SPEAKER_00]: We can meet, we will meet there and there's like, you know, bunch of bathrooms and there's a lob, the whole area to hang out and change and do everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's been very convenient. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm looking forward to seeing the, I don't know who's left, but I saw Danny Trejo was on there. [SPEAKER_00]: So Danny Trejo, yeah, I forgot to because we've done so Danny Trejo definitely Harley Quinn. [SPEAKER_00]: We did, I, I forget what guests we didn't show yet, but there's a, there's a few more that are good.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we definitely, you know, there's a few guests that we filmed. [SPEAKER_00]: We were doing it when we did the first episode, we filmed it one way, and then Steebo came in and Steebo was like, I think you should do this. [SPEAKER_00]: And while we were filming, you started coming up with ideas and like, I told Steebo, I actually wrote him after, I was like, bro, thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there's a good like little percentage of like ideas he had mentioned why he was [SPEAKER_00]: filming with us that we use that I was like, wow, this is better. [SPEAKER_00]: This is better than the idea we had. [SPEAKER_00]: We were going to stop and go through everything at the end, but we did it on the fly and it seems to work smooth there.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, let's check it out. [SPEAKER_03]: But it's like, this is important for anybody that wants to keep a career, right? [SPEAKER_03]: Like I got, my son is 18, and he's been doing little, you know, like school acting his whole life. [SPEAKER_03]: And, and we've had the conversation like, man, if you just want to be an actor and that's it, you might get to work sometimes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: But if you're up for being creative and doing your own projects and you're up for being part of the crew or whatever it is, like you can, you can work all the time. [SPEAKER_03]: And for someone like you like staying in this business [SPEAKER_03]: for 30 something years is near impossible for most people.
[SPEAKER_03]: So to find these avenues, to be able to stay creative, to stay scrappy. [SPEAKER_03]: Like it almost feels like in a lot of ways, like you're taking it back to the DIY routes. [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, is that accurate? [SPEAKER_00]: yeah i mean it definitely it's it's been it's been really tough to keep the thing i think it's it's like it blows me away when i see someone like i feel like it's like you said the are sun it's it's like unless you're a Robert to me or i'll clean his wood like these actors who get jobs nonstop like [SPEAKER_00]: Even me like I haven't done an acting job.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know like I don't know what my last acting job was because acting alone It's like I only've done as much as I done because Kevin put in the end and then doing in these indie movies locally People have all proved me to do and stuff [SPEAKER_00]: And it's really top, especially auditioning, like I'm horrible at auditioning.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've actually never gotten a job from an audition. [SPEAKER_00]: Really? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've never, ever in 30 years. [SPEAKER_00]: I've done a lot of auditions, too. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I've auditioned for TV shows and movies and big movies. [SPEAKER_00]: And none of them have I ever got a clawback, whether like, oh my god, that was great, but we need to come in and read with this person.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm never like I'm just not good at it at all luckily people are like oh my god I love this guy and I think you'd be great as this character in my movie But you're right besides that luckily other people have been like oh my god I have this idea for five things I'd love for you to do it like I just came from a meeting because these guys are doing stuff and they're like Hey, we think you'd be great to come pop on and do this, you know, it's really been [SPEAKER_00]: I honestly have just personally been lucky.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how people will ask me at places. [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely the comedy. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think was a lucky thing as much as I think the first couple, me getting my foot in the door because I, again, I have a guide to do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Travels with me doing my comedy is Jake and he said like for comedian.
[SPEAKER_00]: They got to go to all these open mics open mics and then they're hoping that the M's that a club will be like oh my god You're so funny. [SPEAKER_00]: Why don't you MC for this Hepliner coming up and then if that if you keep MC and then someone eventually you could be a feature and then if you're good at featuring hopefully Someone will say hey come open up for me [SPEAKER_00]: Um, I, this is where I think the luck came in was it was that that's uh, when we did the podcast, we met some promoters and they were like, Jay's great and we reached out and said, hey, Jay wants to do a solo show.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can he come to your club for one night and they're being that they knew me. [SPEAKER_00]: They were like, yeah, he totally can. [SPEAKER_00]: And then from there, I do think it was me on my own legs being like, oh, wow, he's great. [SPEAKER_00]: He could sell out a three-day show, you know, but for the most part, I mean, again, I've gotten really lucky and people will be like, oh my god, I want to be in the business.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can you give me any, like, give me some advice and I'm like, I wish I could give advice, but some dude, my buddy Kevin, I went to school with said you're funny. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put you in this first movie. [SPEAKER_00]: That movie just happened. [SPEAKER_00]: to take off clerks and he's they gave them three movies deal and he's like I'm gonna do three more movies and I'm writing our characters and two of the three you know and I just got lucky because of that and if not even after clerks even with the success of clerks if Kevin didn't get more rats and get to put me in that I would have never been like I'm gonna go do another movie even after more rats [SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't planning on doing another movie, but Malcolm Ingraham, a guy we met working for film Fred Amorats, said, hey, I'm doing an indie movie called Drawing Flies, I want you to be in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So then I went out to Vancouver and filmed Drawing Flies, then Kevin put me in chasing aiming. [SPEAKER_00]: So then all of a sudden, I'm like, oh my god, I've done four movies. [SPEAKER_00]: Now you're an actor. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And now this is something I want to do, but otherwise, I would have [SPEAKER_00]: Even after more arts or clerks, I don't think I would have, I would have just kept doing my thing, which was roofing, because I knew I was pretty decent at it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, if I can own my own business, I can make a pretty decent living in New Jersey, because the guy who owned the roofing business, I worked for, you know, he had like a four bedroom house in Rumsim, which was a nice area in Jersey where I grew up. [SPEAKER_00]: And he had a wife that was 15 years younger than him, you know?
[SPEAKER_00]: So I was like, that's a pretty good life. [SPEAKER_03]: And we'll be right back right after this. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, come back. [SPEAKER_03]: It's Kyle, man. [SPEAKER_03]: It's with james. [SPEAKER_03]: I think if I'm wrong, uh, you're trying to remember your most recent acting. [SPEAKER_03]: And I was thinking maybe that's a slippery bill Watson.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, which is one of my favorite things I've done. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you're right. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: So slippery bill Watson. [SPEAKER_03]: What a great character name also. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and I'm so excited because I love that show so much and again, just me being lucky again my wife we know the dude the guy Ian that works on Murdoch worked on the grassy [SPEAKER_00]: And my wife saw a selfie with him on Instagram and said, Oh my God, do you know that Yanik from Murdoch and he wrote back, yeah, I know, my work on this show and she's like, Oh my God, Jade loves that show and we didn't ask, but then he told the his boss and his boss said, Oh, we love Jade Muse, have him come up and do a character.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, oh my god. [SPEAKER_00]: So then I got to go out and do that. [SPEAKER_00]: And then while I was there, we jokingly were like, oh my god, 20 seasons of a show. [SPEAKER_00]: What a great show to do a rewatch podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: And they were like, oh my god, that's a great idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: They talked to the boss. [SPEAKER_00]: And not even because I wanted to do it. [SPEAKER_00]: I would like it was a joke. [SPEAKER_00]: They call back to say hey that joke you made that idea. [SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to do it? [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like yeah, so we just filmed 14 episodes of a podcast a Murdoch mysteries podcast and that comes out in May.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're super excited about that because I'm hoping that does well. [SPEAKER_00]: When we get to do a season two, then I'm also season 20 just got picked up in May. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm hoping I get to go being two more episodes as an actor and Murdoch. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh man that would that would be great and that's that's what I'm showing like that's what you're saying now Don't quote that because that's not set in stone yet But I'm hoping I'm hoping the podcast as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm hoping to get to do another episode of Manifesting that's what this is Manifesting a hundred percent it's so between five things Murdoch mysteries podcast My diave a man child like again. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all a great my my ideal [SPEAKER_00]: My ideal job, though, I was just telling the gentleman I was talking to, is I love my stream on Twitch, and not in this way it doesn't have to be Twitch, but when my ideal job would be all to do this, you five things, murder our podcast, and then stream.
[SPEAKER_00]: five hours a day after I dropped the kids off before I pick them up from school and make enough money to support my life there. [SPEAKER_00]: Because those are the things that getting this stay home and that travel as much as I do. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I love my stand-up comedy. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't get me wrong, but it's like a lot of traveling.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot like just getting stuck in snow and flight cancellations. [SPEAKER_00]: And so again, if I could stay on what my kids and do the YouTube [SPEAKER_00]: whatever it would be. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how often we'd film and then stream every day. [SPEAKER_00]: And then go to the Canada that film 14 episodes of a show, a podcast every like six months.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think beautiful. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it would be a beautiful life right there. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And then occasionally put on the hoodie. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Additionally, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Another movie with Kevin, we're hoping not come wood, we're hoping to film another Jam Bobbs.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's called Jansom Bob's Thor Wars. [SPEAKER_00]: Kevin's got the script. [SPEAKER_00]: We got, you know, we're raised, we have half the money. [SPEAKER_00]: That's supposed to hopefully happen in the middle of the year, and that would also be great. [SPEAKER_00]: You're right. [SPEAKER_00]: If I could still do movies with Kevin, you know, uh, [SPEAKER_00]: Once it like once a year do a or even every once of the other year a jam bomb movie I guess it's eventually we're going to get a little old to do it, but And then But we want to see them old.
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's that's kind of it, right? [SPEAKER_00]: This point we do Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: You see in a 17 year old all the way to like always that's crazy. [SPEAKER_03]: It's like a link letter thing. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a Richard link letter thing like with boyhood, you know? [SPEAKER_00]: It's really surreal to think that yeah, Clarks are 17 and now in 51 [SPEAKER_00]: So we do another movie this year.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be 52. [SPEAKER_00]: So the thing 50 that's that will be it is pretty like it is like a snapshot of like and then we do another one when I'm like 72 you guys just don't do [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna happen. [SPEAKER_03]: I know people are still holding out hope for dogmatoo and the sequels and all of that stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, even the movies, this, the Jay and Bob movies, I mean, the scripts are still so good. [SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's the important part. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, reboot was so good, you know, and it continues that. [SPEAKER_03]: And if they weren't, you know, who would care as much and luckily, like, what you guys are still putting out is, like, it's meaningful work.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like Kevin on the state to me and I tell them all of them I find Kevin to be super clever And not just saying it because he's my friend and all that but I find him super clever to be able to take something and then like throw all these throwbacks [SPEAKER_00]: And I find it's, when I'm reading the script for the first time, I'm always like, oh my god, he says this because in clerks too, this happened, and then he wrote this, and like, the throwbacks and the bring, I love it all the time.
[SPEAKER_00]: He, yes, you know, like, oh my god, Jay has adored it because just as the night of this happened, it was like, it makes sense. [SPEAKER_00]: It's possible. [SPEAKER_00]: It's possible. [SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty surreal, but you know, it's anyway, but I love how Kevin does that. [SPEAKER_00]: He like ties them in and keeps them [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I really do.
[SPEAKER_03]: And all the universe. [SPEAKER_03]: And also, no, quickly compliment you. [SPEAKER_03]: I know it's a few years in the review now, but madness in the method. [SPEAKER_03]: You know, seeing you behind the directors get in that story. [SPEAKER_03]: As you're talking about threading those through in the callbacks and, you know, everything.
[SPEAKER_03]: That was a beautifully done movie as well. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a lot of fun, man. [SPEAKER_00]: I honestly love. [SPEAKER_00]: It is something that I wish I was hoping to be able to start directing more. [SPEAKER_00]: It was looking good. [SPEAKER_00]: The bummer is like after that, I remember I've had like three offers to direct, and every time it's something like the strike happened, you know, the last time.
[SPEAKER_00]: I had this movie, this, this really cool script, and it wasn't even my script. [SPEAKER_00]: It was something I was going to direct, which would have been my first time directing something that didn't have to do in that [SPEAKER_00]: So, but then, of course, strike happened and at the time before that, like, I forget what happened before that, but it was, oh, it was like we were going to film, I was going to direct this movie where they got this hotel.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were going to, it was going to be all filmed in this hotel and offices and everything, so the money they had. [SPEAKER_00]: was going to work and then all of a sudden they were like we're moving up the timeline we're demoing this old hotel because we're building a new one. [SPEAKER_00]: So like they lost their location which didn't work with their finances anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they were like we're going to find another place and we're going to find more money and then that just never happened. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_00]: So [SPEAKER_00]: I'm really enjoyed directing and I'm hoping I get to do it again. [SPEAKER_00]: At some point I'm going to try to make that happen because it was fun and this time I would do it though without me being the main actor because [SPEAKER_00]: as much as I enjoyed it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: It really was. [SPEAKER_00]: It was like, okay, we're going to do a blocking rehearsal. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're going to come out the door. [SPEAKER_00]: Go down here and we're going to say, all right, now I got to go get wardrobe and hair and makeup and I'll be back.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so I got to enjoy it, but not the same as where I got the sit back and just feel like, you know, and I got so lucky. [SPEAKER_00]: I got the Stanley came out to play, which was so great. [SPEAKER_00]: It was, you know, it's a bummer. [SPEAKER_00]: It's [SPEAKER_00]: It's not, it is a bummer, but I was like, Stoke him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, he did, on that, my movie's last movie, he did, even though he can't be time somebody looks that up. [SPEAKER_03]: It's your, it's your movie right there. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, because again, Captain Marvel came out after my movie, but he filmed that way before it just took longer to get that out.
[SPEAKER_00]: But my movie was literally the last, uh, time he was on screen. [SPEAKER_03]: So that's, that's the, that's the let it be Abby Road thing right there that you guys get to be. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it was so sweet of him because again, he took out like two hours. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I'll come.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a system that was helping him. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you'll be there. [SPEAKER_00]: And he could stay for like two and a half hours, but he has to be done by five, thirty, no later, because he cannot miss dinner with his wife at six o'clock. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you never miss his dinner with his wife.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought there was the sweetest thing. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I don't care about anything else. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care, because we're like, hey, we only have this much money to pay you. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't care about any of that. [SPEAKER_00]: I just have to be home by six to have dinner at my wife.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, sold. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_03]: So that's a great story. [SPEAKER_03]: Really, really, really too. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a very fun movie. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, man. [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm I'm really loving watching five things looking forward to those new episodes and I hope you get to keep doing those as well and and and man Seriously, I can't thank you now for taking the time.
