[SPEAKER_04]: Just an example of what you get when you subscribe to the Kyle Meredith with podcast, and it's me Kyle Meredith today Oh, have I got a show Marisa to me Sherry Cola Sierra Bravo and Marco Pagosi are all dropping in to talk about the film you're dating a narcissist [SPEAKER_04]: it's a rom-com that keeps twist in the knife as it asks who's actually the problem in modern relationships.

[SPEAKER_04]: Marisa Tome is going to get into playing a psychology professor obsessed with spotting narcissists while maybe missing her own tendencies. [SPEAKER_04]: Sherry Cole is going to talk about the rare chance to play in a story where every woman gets a full arc and no one's entirely right. [SPEAKER_04]: Sierra brings the emotional center, cop between her mother and fiancee while Marco Pugosi is going to lean into the ambiguity of a character who might be charming or something else entirely.

[SPEAKER_04]: And I guess the actual synosis would help too when a psychology professor played by Marisa Tome with a knack for spotting narcissists discovers her daughter is marrying a man she just met she flies cross-country to prove that he's a fraud and we're gonna start with with Marisa Tome of [SPEAKER_04]: Of course, Marissa has had one of the most legendary careers in Hollywood from a movie It's like my cousin Vinny and the wrestler what women want Spider-Man homecoming Only you the link in law law here she was in recently before the devil knows your dead anger management Two name a few and she gets to play both the other psychology professor and the mom in this [SPEAKER_04]: who's as it was mentioning her daughter is a is suddenly dating a guy and and within a short amount of time they're getting married so let's jump into this we're talking about the movie you're dating a narcissist it's Kyle Meredith with Marissa to me it's a it's a pleasure to meet you nice to talk to you and congratulate you on your dating a narcissist.

[SPEAKER_06]: and living through it. [SPEAKER_04]: It's a weird sentence to say, isn't it? [SPEAKER_04]: It's right there. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: So this movie, like, like, we don't always get a chance to talk about the bigger topics. [SPEAKER_04]: And I guess what you would call a rom-com, like, how did this arrive to you and what did you see in the bigger story?

[SPEAKER_06]: It's something we hear a lot. [SPEAKER_06]: Cloke wheeling now in our society people, maybe overuse it, even though everybody's a narcissist now. [SPEAKER_06]: But there are degrees and there are those that really, as the movie says, idealize and devalue and discard people. [SPEAKER_06]: That's when it gets hairy and dangerous to once heart and psyche.

[SPEAKER_06]: And that's what happened to Ann Marie. [SPEAKER_06]: and she decided to write about it and turn it into a story. [SPEAKER_06]: She, the farther she got away from her own horrific experience, it became funnier and funnier to her, and that's what she wanted to express. [SPEAKER_06]: But also, I really feel that she does personally want to warn people.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, like, how important was all of that for you with this movie? [SPEAKER_04]: Like, on one end as you're saying, like, it's entertainment, right? [SPEAKER_04]: Like, this is an entertaining movie, but there got a visit chance to talk about something, you know, else. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I mean, that's nice if that's a side effect.

[SPEAKER_06]: It wasn't a motivator for me. [SPEAKER_06]: It wasn't something that I, that, that I'm going to go to schools and talk about, but I think it's, if you see the film, and you wind up talking with friends afterwards, there'll probably be a bunch of funny stories and also a really nice little group therapy session.

[SPEAKER_06]: Come out of it. [SPEAKER_06]: That feels really good to process through. [SPEAKER_04]: And it does such a great job of like of sort of playing around with who is as you're saying because you like everybody's a narcissist right like it's possible with these characters any of them could be or none of them are [SPEAKER_06]: Like, you do herself, my character, who's so obsessed with it, is actually enacting it a lot of the time.

[SPEAKER_06]: Right. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: I don't want to place that on you, but that's one of the questions, like you can actually hold on. [SPEAKER_04]: Right. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, did you find yourself guessing, did you guess right or wrong about how was going to end?

[SPEAKER_06]: Uh, I guess, I guess wrong actually. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: I think I went back and forth. [SPEAKER_04]: Like at one point, I think my gut instinct was like, this is what's going to happen. [SPEAKER_04]: Totally second guess that went the other way. [SPEAKER_04]: And then it came back around.

[SPEAKER_04]: So if I trust in my instinct, it would have been the right thing. [SPEAKER_06]: And if you chop through instinct, you'll avoid the knocks. [SPEAKER_04]: And it has a really nice mother-daughter relationship in it as well, you know, I should bring up. [SPEAKER_04]: Like you all made it really really like I believed it that you, you know, it was it was great acting, but it was on I don't know what the level was, but however you all were playing that was was spot on.

[SPEAKER_06]: I think that Amory just baked it in really well into everything that she [SPEAKER_06]: created and it was so it was easy for us to fall into it really and also my relationship was cherry as my best friend I really that really tickled me that really was was a joy to just to just play off of her and it's broad and silly as we wanted to be.

[SPEAKER_04]: She's great. [SPEAKER_04]: The drunk scene, that's one of my favorite moments in the movie, I think, just watching you all manipulate that whole thing. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Now, I was looking at some of the other movies too, just around this same time because there's this other movie called F Valentine's Day.

[SPEAKER_04]: And I was checking out the trailer for that. [SPEAKER_04]: And I thought this seems to be completely polar opposites of the characters saying like to completely different things. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, no, I didn't do that about that. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Do you find that one is closer to you than the other?

[SPEAKER_04]: Like the real you? [SPEAKER_04]: Like are you the optimistic or the pessimistic person when it comes to stories like this? [SPEAKER_06]: Hands on the one who's facing me. [SPEAKER_06]: It is in the pattern. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: It's really fun. [SPEAKER_04]: When you're filling the role, how much of that plays into it, do you like finding stuff that's more you than other wise?

[SPEAKER_06]: Well, I mean, I prefer not for it to be close to me, but there are always things that are just the nature of doing the job in a way. [SPEAKER_04]: And I saw that, do me a rant like this second movie that you did with Marco, as well, [SPEAKER_06]: and that's very different characters for him.

[SPEAKER_06]: Right. [SPEAKER_04]: Right. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Is that coincidence or strategic planning? [SPEAKER_04]: Like, did does. [SPEAKER_06]: A little bit of strategic planning. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, because I know this movie was like, I'm talking about you're dating a narcissist.

[SPEAKER_04]: Like, it was like three years ago. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, which came first? [SPEAKER_06]: a high tide came first and that I love that movie so much and he's so exquisite in that and so soft and vulnerable and in this he and Marie had met him and loved him and I supported it and he's he's just he gets to be so broad in this too and in a really different way [SPEAKER_04]: It looks like such a beautiful film too, like I'm just getting familiar with it as I was looking at the trailers and everything.

[SPEAKER_06]: But it's a very nice one. [SPEAKER_06]: It's like, and that's like a somba. [SPEAKER_04]: But I think it just goes to show like these movies, like your dating analysis and high tide. [SPEAKER_04]: Like your closer in this part of the business, so correct me if I'm wrong. [SPEAKER_04]: But it seems like independent films is having [SPEAKER_04]: it's it's going into a really good era is what it looks like and like is that correct did you see that or anything do you pay attention to that side of things?

[SPEAKER_06]: you know not I'm not an echelons of what is being green later not I know that it's [SPEAKER_06]: Difficult to make any movie these days so that that that Amory will this into existence made it just made it happen I'm so proud of her and she really was burning burning to tell this story and I think she did a great job as a first-time filmmaker That this really kind of strange time in the business right now.

[SPEAKER_06]: So [SPEAKER_04]: I'm optimistic. [SPEAKER_04]: I'll say that. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm only seeing it from this side, but I think there's more, there's a lot more interesting stuff I think coming from the independent side and first time directors. [SPEAKER_04]: And that, you know, there's a rebirth in the industry every few years.

[SPEAKER_06]: I'm just good, right? [SPEAKER_06]: A little grist for the meal. [SPEAKER_06]: Like, [SPEAKER_04]: Right, it's the shuffle it up and you know get something new to come out of it and that's that's the fun of it when you have movies like High-Tide and and your dating and nurses and they're both kind of coming from totally different stories, but you know Yeah, kind of the same part.

[SPEAKER_04]: I really do enjoy watching this. [SPEAKER_04]: It's such a fun movie and just watching you all play around I mean everybody was it's such a perfect cast. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's such pleasure to get the talk to you. [SPEAKER_06]: Thank you so much for taking the time.

[SPEAKER_06]: But it's having me appreciate it. [SPEAKER_04]: And we'll be right back right after this. [SPEAKER_04]: Welcome back, it's Kyle Meredith. [SPEAKER_04]: We're talking about the movie you're dating a narcissist. [SPEAKER_04]: And and Sherry Kola up next. [SPEAKER_04]: Sherry, you've seen enjoy ride, good trouble, bride hard, and most recently in shrinking, we're going to talk about that in this interview.

[SPEAKER_04]: She's in the the latest season season three of shrinking. [SPEAKER_04]: She plays, um, [SPEAKER_04]: uh... one of uh... Jessica Williams clients uh... at the practice so we get into that but but talking about your dating a nurse as she plays uh... she plays the framerizatomies friend who herself is in a relationship a complicated relationship where she's possibly dating a narcissist so let's get into a part two here it's Kyle Meredith with sherry kola i was going on you can see you fellow DJ yeah formally for you i guess radio recognized radio baby that's it right there [SPEAKER_02]: such a dear, dear part of my story.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I will always have love for the craft, always, always, always. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I hope that sticks. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm running these days. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm running a non-com public radio here in Louisville. [SPEAKER_04]: And it's the whole thing because radio in 2026, you run it, you're on air and it's everything.

[SPEAKER_04]: But if you live that world, it kind of stays with you a little bit. [SPEAKER_02]: definitely. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I, I, it's such a fun chapter. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I, it just, it's everything. [SPEAKER_02]: I still like, you know, follow a lot of my homies that, you know, now are at altum and then K rock and then, you know, it's just, I respect it so much.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you've done a lot since then anyway, I should say, and let me jump into and congratulate you because it's a very fun movie that you're a part of, right? [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we're seeing it everywhere. [SPEAKER_04]: You seem like you're having a moment, but you're dating a narcissist.

[SPEAKER_04]: This is a really fun one right here. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, I would love to hear the story. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, you get to be a part of this. [SPEAKER_04]: How is it presented to you? [SPEAKER_04]: Because this is sort of dating, dating life movie, but it's also this, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: Well, first of all, what's wild is that we started filming this, um, I think it was November 20, 20, 30.

[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, so it's one of those, where everything just lines up later. [SPEAKER_02]: everything exactly it's like um because yeah like sometimes I'm also I'm also you know reflecting on my life and career I'm like wow there is a lot going on right now but it just happens to line up this way uh but yeah it's been about two years since we wrapped you're dating an narcissist and you know it was such a fun [SPEAKER_02]: fun, fun, that's a beyond because Mercer Tome is an icon.

[SPEAKER_02]: And Anne Marie Allison and Jenna Millie wrote this script that was so funny and so smart. [SPEAKER_02]: And this cast, Sierra Bravo and Marco and Jose, everyone, I mean, it was just a treat to bring this to life, especially with these characters. [SPEAKER_02]: And we're talking like these three women are [SPEAKER_02]: going through something simultaneously, but like at different chapters of love and their opinions on, you know, relationships.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's so most like dimensional, and like these women are there for each other, but also going through shit themselves. [SPEAKER_02]: And like, you know, all of them have this arc, and it's really, really, really, really, [SPEAKER_02]: really rare that we get to see that, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Like, multiple women, each individually, you know, having a story to tell and it all fits in this film.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I just feel really lucky that I got to bring Diane to life, you know, just as someone who I'd say, you know, doesn't get to do like full arts often. [SPEAKER_02]: I just was so thrilled to be a part of this, you know, but yeah, I think this is a very smart film. [SPEAKER_02]: It's enlightening.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think the audience is going to feel healed, perhaps triggered, perhaps a lot of things. [SPEAKER_04]: And I like what you said there about, you know, the different levels and everything because because it does a really great job of playing around with [SPEAKER_04]: who's right, you know, who's Yeah, because Marissa's character, you know, she's coming at it from a very honest point, you know, and and from a mother, but from someone who's been burned in the past and you wonder's like, you know, of course, like, she's talking about narcissism is she the narcissist are the guys it like the way it plays when you read it like did you did you try to guess like because you can play it as a mystery if you want to

[SPEAKER_02]: Right, you know, you're so right because it can be open to interpretation and spark a lot of conversation, which I think is the testament of a truly great film is when people have, you know, different takes and different perspectives on it, but you're so correct, like, well, who actually is the narcissist here, right?

[SPEAKER_02]: That is a very interesting because, um, personally, I do think it's the end and Lauren, Diane's lover. [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely, but. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, only because when you start the film, I immediately think Judy knows what she's talking about because she's obviously an author of this book and also a professor and she, you know, has expertise around this topic and enough.

[SPEAKER_02]: you know, expertise to give advice to Diane and also Eva about it also because she's been burned and that's what motivated her to kind of get into this field I believe. [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, you kind of trust her to that but then as we get deeper into it, you start to question because she's so fixated and she's also a mother so that's kind of skewing her, you know, opinion [SPEAKER_02]: because she's protective of Eva and so we're starting to think, okay, wait, is she overreacting?

[SPEAKER_02]: She we're obviously doing extreme things like hiding in a bush and trying to take photos or trying to steal, be useful and then dying gets too drunk and then it blows up in all of our faces and we don't know what's true and what's not, but then of course, you know, spoiler in the end we do see that.

[SPEAKER_02]: Narcissists are not, he definitely was too tiny, Eva, just like Lauren was too tiny, Diane. [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, there's so many themes here down to, you know, us becoming our mothers, Eva going back to hiding in the bush is so hilarious to me because, [SPEAKER_02]: at her mother just did that.

[SPEAKER_02]: We really do become our mothers and this is also a symbol of how we need to kind of unlearn these cultural and generational patterns to kind of not let history repeat itself with our own kids. [SPEAKER_02]: Because what can we do, you know, we want to make sure that the people we love, whether your daughter or your colleague slash bestie, we want to make sure or yourself, because, you know, of course, we have Danielle, the hotel manager, who comes in kind of breaks down Judy's walls, and she gets vulnerable for a second, and you know, there's so much to unpack [SPEAKER_04]: right like there's so much yeah that's funny um i i had become my i had my mom's fate we had the same face but i've become everything else about her as well that's really interesting because i really hadn't thought about that in the context of the movie i mean obviously you see you know that it playing against that but uh

[SPEAKER_04]: But you're right, and I learned things. [SPEAKER_04]: I've heard the term love bombing, but I hadn't looked it up. [SPEAKER_04]: And it just was at the fast forwarding and all that stuff. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, I guess these are real things that people have to worry about these things. [SPEAKER_02]: What's 1,000 percent?

[SPEAKER_02]: And whether or not these characters are narcissists, I think, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: it is so smartly written, it's smartly a word. [SPEAKER_04]: It is now of all the words to make like that by the way. [SPEAKER_04]: Right? [SPEAKER_04]: That's the one. [SPEAKER_02]: The point is, I think, yeah, a lot of people are going to learn something from this film.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, just how they approach love or whether they have, you know, just more heightened radar. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, when it comes to, you know, being vulnerable or maybe they're dating someone. [SPEAKER_02]: right now, and it shows them to get the funk out, you know, to make it, or maybe they could laugh about a past relationship.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think this film is so relatable to everyone, and yeah, it was so brilliantly written. [SPEAKER_02]: by Jenna and Amory that I think it excited all of us to be a part of it. [SPEAKER_02]: And when I watch it, I'm laughing out loud. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like just deeply touched by the dynamics between the women, you know, because another theme that I keep saying loud and proud is that women are doing the most all the time.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, because Judy, she has trauma, and she's trying to save Diana and Eva. [SPEAKER_02]: Diana, she's on well, and yet she's going on this very theatrical journey with Judy and being tough love to her as well, while Judy's being tough love, did I end up in this so much? [SPEAKER_02]: It really is, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, an implication that women are super humans, you know?

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I only got a minute here. [SPEAKER_04]: I wanted to quickly bring up shrinking because you broke our hearts. [SPEAKER_04]: You broke our hearts in this incredible role that we got to see you with Jessica and everything. [SPEAKER_04]: Did you know how that story was going to go ultimately from the beginning?

[SPEAKER_02]: I did. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, Kyle, for bringing up shrinking because it is such a phenomenal show about these human beings navigating grief and just trying to find joy in between. [SPEAKER_02]: It is so real and just brilliantly written and, you know, the fact that I got to bring this character Maya onto the screen.

[SPEAKER_02]: is something that I don't say lightly because it is, you know, heavy material here and I did know that this was going to be the trajectory and the way Bill Lawrence who is a wizard. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm truly the way he, you know, walked me through the arc and made sure that we hit every beat to make, you know, so make the impact.

[SPEAKER_02]: exactly what it is. [SPEAKER_02]: It was just so special and I feel grateful that I got to be a part of it and you know to work with Jessica Williams who is a national treasure She's just array of light and she was such a safe space as a scene partner in those moments that really [SPEAKER_02]: we're meant the world to me because I come from comedy but I know that I can do drama like I thrive in drama as a matter of fact in fact that I was given the chance to kind of [SPEAKER_02]: You know, showcase that, that already means the world to me because you know, I was on a show called Good Trouble for six years.

[SPEAKER_02]: That was categorized as a drama and I did a lot of crying on on on that show and that had a dedicated audience, but I don't think a lot of I don't think enough people saw it. [SPEAKER_02]: So shrinking being the platform that it is. [SPEAKER_02]: the messages and the comments that I've been getting about Maya have been emotional, they have just blown me away.

[SPEAKER_02]: I cannot believe I got to play this meaningful character on a show like this. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, everyone is just fantastic on that show and I'm just just [SPEAKER_02]: feeling very fortunate and I think, you know, Bill Lawrence and all the producers, the writers and the teams and Apple TV and I can't believe it.

[SPEAKER_02]: I really just can't believe it because it's happening in real time, obviously, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Like there's still kind of unpacking Maya and, you know, Jessica Williams's character being affected. [SPEAKER_02]: It's still happening in real time. [SPEAKER_02]: So, [SPEAKER_02]: the feedback and the fan reactions because some people are also not caught up either like they're rolling in like these comments and messages are still rolling in.

[SPEAKER_02]: I feel so lucky dude like Kyle the show this character. [SPEAKER_02]: I just I can't believe it. [SPEAKER_02]: I think you know while I was filming it. [SPEAKER_02]: I remember what I felt that day in Old Town, Pasadena in the parking lot after that trivia night. [SPEAKER_02]: you know, those two scenes.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I felt that this was special. [SPEAKER_02]: I felt that this was special. [SPEAKER_02]: I remember calling my girlfriend. [SPEAKER_02]: I remember calling my mom just because it was like, there were, you know, obviously different versions. [SPEAKER_02]: There were versions where I was also like, bally, you know, in the scene.

[SPEAKER_02]: And they used the one where it was, you know, just like, just enough, just enough tears at the cusp, which I think actually is more impactful than, then, then, you know, tears all the way down sometimes. [SPEAKER_02]: But the point is, I remember feeling so fulfilled in the work itself.

[SPEAKER_02]: And... [SPEAKER_02]: I was just so proud of the work itself, and now a year later, for it's, you know, hit the TV screens and people feeling it, like how I felt that night when I filmed it, like all these things, it also was seen on the couch, like it just is, I could talk on and on on about shrinking because I'm just so, yeah, I'm so grateful.

[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for bringing it up, because it really is like, means a lot to me. [SPEAKER_04]: I love seeing you do all the stuff that you do seriously. [SPEAKER_04]: We're shrinking and everything else and of course we're dating a narcissist. [SPEAKER_04]: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk about it with me.

[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, Kyle, stay tuned. [SPEAKER_02]: More conversations to come. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure. [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll see you. [SPEAKER_02]: Have a good one. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, my love. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and we'll be right back right after this.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, welcome back for the third parts of your dating and narcissist. [SPEAKER_04]: We're going to be talking with Sierra Bravo and Marco Picoci in the film. [SPEAKER_04]: They play the the couple they're getting married with Marissa's character calling Marco an obvious narcissist.

[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know for most of the movie is he isn't he? [SPEAKER_04]: There's a it twists and turns in all the right ways. [SPEAKER_04]: Let's see Sierra you've seen her in Wayne and cherry big-time rush Jinxed and Marco Pagosi himself in a in high tide and bone lake in visible city Tiedlands just to name a few so here it is part three your dating and narcissists It's Kyle Mereth with Sierra Bravo and Marco Pagosi.

[SPEAKER_04]: Hi It's a it's a pleasure to see both congrats on on finally getting this movie into the world [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's so excited. [SPEAKER_04]: Three years is a long time to have to sit on something and, you know, I think Andy film is in a really good place right now, but it's still the uphill climb.

[SPEAKER_04]: So congrats to you both. [SPEAKER_04]: It's such a fun movie, seriously. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's the thrill that it's finally going to be out in the world and other people are going to get to hopefully enjoy it. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we'll see. [SPEAKER_04]: I was going to bring up, by the way, Alexander, you can tuck his own.

[SPEAKER_04]: I'm right here in Louisville, just down the road. [SPEAKER_04]: And I wondered about you, do you consider yourself a Kentucky and or a Cincinnati person? [SPEAKER_01]: Kentucky. [SPEAKER_01]: I think this is something that I was always, you know, there was a shift. [SPEAKER_01]: So when I was a child, I was very firm on the fact that I was from Kentucky, not Ohio.

[SPEAKER_01]: So when my mom would go and I'd go over from Ohio because we're closer to Cincinnati, I would correct her. [SPEAKER_01]: which I'm sure was the nightmare for her and then as I got older I was like oh I understand why she did that so for a while I would be like you know I'm from Ohio but now I'm but I I'm from Kentucky glad to have you back here if you're from southern Indiana around here they just say lovel so I can put that's why I asked them.

[SPEAKER_04]: Marco, I have nothing to relate from growing up in Brazil. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry, it's a romantic. [SPEAKER_07]: I know, and I have nothing to relate from Kentucky and I accept the fact that I be in the in both states, be contriving, because I cross the country twice, and they're both beautiful.

[SPEAKER_07]: Just for the fun of it. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, it was great to work in New York for a long period three months. [SPEAKER_07]: So we have played New York and I wanted to take my puppy and I wanted to get to know this country because it's beautiful. [SPEAKER_07]: There's so many beautiful places.

[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah, it was a beautiful experience. [SPEAKER_07]: I loved it. [SPEAKER_04]: Long drive. [SPEAKER_04]: It's a good drive, but it's a long drive. [SPEAKER_07]: It's a beautiful drive, but it always just said, you know, the focus was on the way, not to get there. [SPEAKER_07]: So I took my time.

[SPEAKER_07]: Nice. [SPEAKER_07]: You know, the journey was the most important, yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Well, I do love seeing you both together in this movie and the way you all get to play around with this relationship. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure maybe we'll start with you. [SPEAKER_04]: So this comes from Henry Allison's like own experiences, right?

[SPEAKER_04]: Did you get to talk with her much about those going into it? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she was very generous and sharing her story with me and, you know, the more ugly sides of it. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think what I really appreciated and what I found helpful with seeing Eva come to the other side of it.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I also really appreciated that Anne Marie didn't write, you know, obviously [SPEAKER_01]: Eva goes through some really terrible experiences in this film, and a lot of pain, but I never saw her as a victim. [SPEAKER_01]: And I think she was, she's incredibly intelligent, and she was aware of herself the entire time, and she knew the choices that she was making, and watching her come through the other side just a...

[SPEAKER_01]: a better person because of the pain that she experienced. [SPEAKER_01]: I think was really a beautiful example of how people can grow from horrible situations or pain. [SPEAKER_04]: Because she's sort of got uphill. [SPEAKER_04]: I say it up a battle is a matter of going, I mean, it's not just, you know, Mark was carried, but you've got, you know, the mother character played by Marissa.

[SPEAKER_04]: Like this girl sort of has to find her way against both of these odds. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's being torn in half by the two people she loves and cares about most in the world. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I couldn't imagine being in that situation and I think it would be immensely painful thing to have to go through and stressful.

[SPEAKER_01]: But she handles it with tact and with grace. [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, you see her crumble in ways that, you know, obviously as a human person, there's only so much pressure you can be put under before you crack. [SPEAKER_04]: She does it. [SPEAKER_04]: She does it. [SPEAKER_04]: Marco, you're going into this.

[SPEAKER_04]: Like, do you know how it's going to end? [SPEAKER_04]: Because what I do like about the movie is, it feels like it's leading it down, it's down a path. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, oh, this guy could be bad, but also he might not be. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, did you have a feeling as to where it was going to land?

[SPEAKER_07]: Well, I think that's what makes the film so exciting and so interesting to watch, right? [SPEAKER_07]: It's not just one thing. [SPEAKER_07]: It's just, it's many things, like everything in life, right? [SPEAKER_07]: There's many layers into everything and then, and it also depends on where you stand, right?

[SPEAKER_07]: What your visions are and what your experiences are and that will dictate how you see things and how you write, so you see the character of Marisa, she's been hurt before, so that's how she sees the world. [SPEAKER_07]: but Sierra's character hasn't been heard before and then she sees the different.

[SPEAKER_07]: And so I think this is why the script was so fascinating to me. [SPEAKER_07]: It was just like an interesting to read. [SPEAKER_07]: I wanted to know, you know, I wanted to get to the end to know what is going on with this guy and this couple. [SPEAKER_07]: And hopefully that's what it's going to make people watch the film and like the film.

[SPEAKER_04]: But did you, did you yourself or you like, man, I hope that you like, did you like some people like to play the villain some people like to play you know the good guy or whatever like did you have a feeling either way of where this guy might have it like the good of the bad. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I mean, you know, of course, after you watch, you do understand if he's good or bad, I'm not going to say, but, um, [SPEAKER_07]: But it's always, you know, I love playing something that is challenging in that sense and the bad guy somehow for me is always challenging and especially this bad guy who looks such like a nice guy so play with that [SPEAKER_07]: opposites was very interesting to to explore and how how much should I give the hint that is he good is he bad to try to find that balance and walk into that line but I think you know every narcissistic person is extremely subactive in the beginning they are right today they are like fascinating people to watch and they are extremely emotionally smart so that's what I was going for as an actor

[SPEAKER_04]: the back guys sometimes you do a very good job at the seduction on the on the screen as well by the way that's not a back Sierra you do as we were saying though you have this you know back and forth with with the mother character play by Marissa to me What was the the working relationship like with her and I I asked that because you won't do it so believably [SPEAKER_01]: Bomarissa is such a powerhouse, I mean, she is an immensely talented woman and an incredible artist.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, as soon as you step on set with her, it's clear the direction that we're heading in. [SPEAKER_01]: And you're just, I'm there for the ride. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like finding those beats in those small moments, but she's, she's very much so leading the charge. [SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you're in good hands.

[SPEAKER_01]: you know, she's an icon for a reason. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's because she knows what she's doing. [SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, following her footsteps and just dancing to the beat that she sets, I think makes for beautiful, beautiful scenes and great work. [SPEAKER_04]: Can you talk a little bit about the mother-daughter relationship of the importance that that and how it's presented on the on the screen?

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I really appreciated that this wasn't a relationship that was sugarcoded in any way. [SPEAKER_01]: I found it extremely relatable. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think what you see, if from Eva's perspective, I'll speak from Eva's perspective, because that's what I truly know, is that she's an immense amount of respect for her mother, and she has been educated by her entire life.

[SPEAKER_01]: as any mother-daughter relationship or most mother-daughter relationships do do at a certain point you you have to sort of I think jump out of the nest and I think what we see here is Eva jumping out of the nest and she needs to learn to fly on her own and to do that I think when you have a very strong-willed caring mother like Judy it means there's going to be some budding of heads [SPEAKER_01]: These are two very smart women, and Eva is very strong-willed as a Judy, so that's, you know, inevitably going to end in these sort of these little tips, these bigger fights even sometimes.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I, I, um, I related to that heavily. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that at much so how my mother and I operate, I'm sure any any daughter with a mother or anyone who has seen, especially, you know, [SPEAKER_01]: a teenage daughter or someone in their young 20s and a mother, it's a lot of these, you know, heated blow up arguments, but they always are centered in a place of caring and a place of respect for the other person.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Anne already did a really good job of highlighting that as well. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's just showing the nuances of [SPEAKER_01]: What oftentimes I think can be the most complicated, sometimes toxic relationship in a young woman's life. [SPEAKER_04]: Well, luckily you all do it very entertaining, especially on the comedy part of the Ron Comwrights.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I appreciate that. [SPEAKER_04]: And seriously, congrats on the movie and getting it out there and for taking the time to talk about it to both of you. [SPEAKER_04]: I really appreciate the time. [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Kyle. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a very exciting time and it's nice to me to follow Kentucky.
