[SPEAKER_02]: We've also seen him in the Adam project, looking through water recently with Michael [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be talking all about jumping back into the role that changed everything as Percy Jackson and the Olympians, especially as it went into It's bigger more physical second season on Disney plus he'll open up about stepping away between seasons actually how that actually made him a better actor [SPEAKER_02]: uh... why the second season demanded more stunt work and endurance and and how growing up in real time uh... really messes with audience perception of where he might actually be at this point in his life walkers also gonna talk about working opposite michael Douglas in the movie looking through water uh... will discuss learning on the fly in fight choreography

[SPEAKER_02]: scenes that took weeks to shoot only to end up on the cutting room floor and why improvisation can suddenly become canon plus he's going to tease season three moments with Kate McKinnon, it's right, she's going to be in season three, there I do in some shooting and and talk about sharing scenes with other comedy heavy weights all that's and so much more such a fun conversation as we discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians it's Kyle Meredith with Walker [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, how are you?

[SPEAKER_03]: All right, now you're doing fantastic. [SPEAKER_03]: Nice to meet you. [SPEAKER_03]: Nice to meet you too. [SPEAKER_03]: I guess I already asked you. [SPEAKER_02]: We did that part, yeah, but I'm still doing well. [SPEAKER_02]: In the second sense, but I can't imagine how many times you've had to do that exact same little banter at this point, considering you've been on what a press tour for [SPEAKER_02]: months?

[SPEAKER_04]: About, I guess, been like three weeks, yeah, like about a month, which is like insane to think about. [SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, yeah, I guess I've, I say that a couple times. [SPEAKER_02]: Like how many times can you answer the same questions? [SPEAKER_02]: I feel for you anyway, I do. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.

[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully this is getting to the end of it for you. [SPEAKER_02]: I think this is like yeah I think this today is just this is it for me. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's let's let's do that. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's do the dance then let's let's get into this Season two of Percy Jackson. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot of fun.

[SPEAKER_02]: You guys are killing it again and and and you get to return to the character, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Like [SPEAKER_02]: Like, did you take time between seasons to kind of think about it to analyze it? [SPEAKER_02]: Do you do that kind of thing? [SPEAKER_04]: When I'm like, you know, working when I'm there in Vancouver, all I think about is just versus Jackson.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I think [SPEAKER_04]: You know, when I got back, I think, you know, I was not, I kind of, you know, when I'm filming something, I film it, that's all I'm thinking about. [SPEAKER_04]: Don't think about it at all other than, you know, when I'm out there. [SPEAKER_04]: So I think I kind of just went right back to, like, school.

[SPEAKER_04]: I went back to like my life and then, or my other life, I guess. [SPEAKER_04]: And, um, [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, but I think really enough that was like the best prep I could have done. [SPEAKER_04]: Because I got back and I was refreshed and I was ready to go and I think the best I would say acting practice that I do or like, you know, to, I guess, you know, get better.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's just like watching people and just like living your life and seeing how you deal with different things and how that makes you feel. [SPEAKER_04]: And [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so it's like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_04]: I think I kind of prepared myself without thinking about it. [SPEAKER_02]: That's that's commendable, too.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's, um, I don't know if I'd been like, how much time was there in between? [SPEAKER_04]: You know, we, we've wrapped in January. [SPEAKER_04]: I had from January until the end of November. [SPEAKER_04]: And then we started this season one press tour. [SPEAKER_04]: and then season two started in July at the next year, perhaps started.

[SPEAKER_02]: Right, right. [SPEAKER_02]: I guess that's what I mean. [SPEAKER_02]: Like I think like good on you, I wouldn't have been that strong. [SPEAKER_02]: I'd have been going back and like, oh, I've got to change that and I've got to do this. [SPEAKER_02]: But that's probably the smarter way what you did.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's, it's, I mean, I'm never not, you know, even though I'm, I, you know, try to not think about it at all. [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I'm always, there's always a piece of me that's like, you know, I'll say something in my real life and I'll be like, wow, I don't remind me of like a scene I did and see some one and then I'm like, oh, that's coming out.

[SPEAKER_04]: People are going to see that and I could do that so much better now. [SPEAKER_04]: And now that it's coming out now, they're going to think that that's what I can do, but I could do so much more than that now. [SPEAKER_04]: But the only thing I could do with the time, [SPEAKER_04]: So it's like, that's the difficult thing about a big show.

[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I think a lot of CGI is that it takes a really long time really long time for it to, you know, fully be, to be done or completed. [SPEAKER_04]: So I think by the time it comes out, it's like, you're a completely different person. [SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, and everybody else's mind, like, this is new.

[SPEAKER_04]: and to you it's like this has been a thing for like the last couple of years so it's especially with season one like it took over a long time to film a really long time to not a really long time but a good amount of time to come out but I was like the you know peak growing stages of my life so I feel like I feel like by the time it came out I was just a completely different person like you were sort of thrown in the deep end too right like that's part of your back story like you've you've technically been acting at this level for like three years now or something like [SPEAKER_02]: like, and so you're right.

[SPEAKER_02]: So much does change in that amount of time versus the public perception. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: But you make it look so natural. [SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, that is a compliment, too. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, it is noticeable, because because yeah, we, of course, we see people grow up.

[SPEAKER_02]: We see people grow up. [SPEAKER_02]: We see you guys grow up between season one and season two. [SPEAKER_02]: But it's, it's, it's [SPEAKER_02]: It is noticeable how natural you make it once you know that part of your story, so that's yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And I guess that's what I mean by like, it's really interesting to know that you weren't just like chiseling away at that between seasons.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think a lot of people try to like, you know, keep themselves in it year-round. [SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know, I just don't think that works for me, I guess, you know, because I feel like, I need to not, you need to be used sometimes, you know, and I think, [SPEAKER_04]: when you're doing a show like this, it's easy to just not to just be that other guy all the time.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I think, it really helps you, like the more you grow as a person, the more you grow as an actor. [SPEAKER_04]: So it's like, to just be you for like, even like a couple months changes the way that you act. [SPEAKER_04]: And so every opportunity I get to just kind of drop it out of my mind and just think about something else for like, even like a week, I do that because I come back feeling even better [SPEAKER_02]: And we'll be right back right after this.

[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back. [SPEAKER_02]: It's Kyle and Meredith with Walker Scoobell. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, with looking through water, did that happen before or after this, this second season? [SPEAKER_04]: So again, it's like the classic like it took a really long time to come out, happened that happened.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I did, you know, season one, wrapped in January, that June before the strike. [SPEAKER_04]: I film looking through water for a week, just a week in Massachusetts. [SPEAKER_04]: And that was like, it's like the quickest, I never done a movie like that. [SPEAKER_04]: So it was, and that was like, I think that was Michael Douglas's last movie so far, I think.

[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know, that was, that was a crazy experience. [SPEAKER_04]: And that was, again, so long ago, and then it comes out like right before season two. [SPEAKER_04]: So it's like, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: So now it's tied now to this moment more than it was for your moments exactly because that's that's that's the next thing you've done since Percy Jackson like like that's interesting like there's weight put on that right Oh, yeah, it like it's like directly connected to me now, you know, so it's it's hard to and not that I did I like I like to move you a lot I thought it was great and [SPEAKER_04]: especially Michael Douglas, that's such a good job.

[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, Michael Douglas, come on. [SPEAKER_03]: Of course. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: I annoyed the shit out of it. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry, when we were filming that, I just said because I came off season one and like we had all these, you know, guest stars. [SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, a lot of the times we were filming not something like something that wasn't that stressful, you know, but this time like, you know, Michael and I had like, [SPEAKER_04]: pages and pages of dialogue to fit in.

[SPEAKER_04]: And a couple of days on this boat out in the water, we couldn't stand up, we couldn't stretch out like our legs. [SPEAKER_04]: So we were stuck in this boat or he was stuck with me. [SPEAKER_04]: And I was asking him like every possible question that I could think of. [SPEAKER_04]: And now looking back on it, I just feel so awful about that.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's Michael Douglas going. [SPEAKER_02]: That's it. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to do any more movies. [SPEAKER_04]: I can't do it. [SPEAKER_04]: I genuinely think that he decided to retire because of me. [SPEAKER_04]: That's it because of you. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go in the history books.

[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, I don't no one can blame you if I was sitting on a boat with Michael Douglas for a week. [SPEAKER_02]: I'd be doing the exact same thing. [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, like, there's so many questions to ask. [SPEAKER_04]: You can't not, like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: You just, you wanna make the most of that, you know?

[SPEAKER_02]: And I definitely did. [SPEAKER_02]: And you know what, he's teaching in the movie. [SPEAKER_02]: So he might as well teach in the, right, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So, that's, that comes to, well, bring it back to the Percy. [SPEAKER_02]: So you do, you go into this. [SPEAKER_02]: And you already mentioned it, you know, the CGI thing, but this feels like so much more of a hands-on season.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't know if that's me remembering the first season wrong, but something about this, I was looking at it going, man, this looks like so much like more of a physical season than the first one was it? [SPEAKER_04]: Definitely, there was a lot. [SPEAKER_04]: It was not even just like, you know, the fights.

[SPEAKER_04]: There was a lot of stuff that was just, very, I don't know, every scene there was some kind of, I guess like, overhanging threat, so it's like, [SPEAKER_04]: Even if we weren't actually running or doing something, it was just having to keep that in your body, the stress of it while you're filming, just like drains you.

[SPEAKER_04]: So there's a lot of stuff, even washing up so three, we did like a week of sneaking around this core door, doing it like, you know, we're all low and it's really tiring to do that kind of stuff, just completely cut out of the show. [SPEAKER_04]: I was one of like one of the things we're hiding behind the door and sneaking through and all that kind of stuff.

[SPEAKER_04]: It's just not there. [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing. [SPEAKER_04]: All that work. [SPEAKER_04]: All that work. [SPEAKER_04]: The most tiring week of my life, because we were filming this in this actual, like this old refrigerator. [SPEAKER_04]: It was this massive, like, where they used to store milk.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, it was connected to where we sell these demigods training in that one scene, but it was freezing cold, it was like the middle of winter, and we're like sneaking around, like rolling on the ground, getting up and like make sure nobody can see us all these different angles, and then it just cuts from us, you know, getting out there to like having the laundry been already.

[SPEAKER_04]: But that's just, but here's the thing, it's like, [SPEAKER_04]: You know, I don't think even if I knew that was going to get caught, I wouldn't have tried any, you know, less hard on that because it's like, you never know what's going to make it any never know, you know, what is because there's times where I'm like, oh, you know, there was, I'm not going to say this scene, but there's one little moment where I was like, there's no way they're going to use that.

[SPEAKER_04]: I was watching it, they definitely used it. [SPEAKER_04]: And I was not, you know what I'll say? [SPEAKER_04]: We did this improv for that, you know, the boon thing where I'm like, oh, what's the boon, boon, like what's that? [SPEAKER_04]: That was just like a random little, [SPEAKER_04]: because James, I don't know, James is like James Bobbin, he's like a genius.

[SPEAKER_04]: And he kind of, I don't know, we went back and re-shot some scenes in episode three that connected to this. [SPEAKER_04]: But on the day, he was like, I guess he was just planting a seed for that, you know, episode. [SPEAKER_04]: And he was like, trying like, uh, I don't know, just like just improv a little bit the boon.

[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, it's a funny word. [SPEAKER_04]: Like just just, just, you know, make some stuff up. [SPEAKER_04]: and like Lea and I like, you know, it's a very beginning of the season. [SPEAKER_04]: Neither of us are very warmed up on stuff like this. [SPEAKER_04]: So we kind of just started saying a bunch of rent and then it kind of just made it in.

[SPEAKER_04]: I was washing it and I was like, you're not even warmed up yet. [SPEAKER_04]: Like I would have thought of what I exactly. [SPEAKER_04]: I wasn't, I wasn't, I wasn't prepared. [SPEAKER_04]: And now it's canon. [SPEAKER_04]: Now it's canon. [SPEAKER_04]: Now it's part of the Percy Jackson universe.

[SPEAKER_04]: You always got to be a hundred percent because you never know. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you do the training like between episodes as you go along or does that all happen before? [SPEAKER_04]: Well, since I am a minor, it's really difficult to find the hours because you know, I'm working every day almost and it's really difficult to find hours to do all that sun training.

[SPEAKER_04]: So what we normally do is go out for like a month before the season. [SPEAKER_04]: We go to Vancouver and we just do stunt training. [SPEAKER_04]: We just like, you know, do the training, we normally get like, you know, by that time we have the first thing to fight and ups, you know, in the first episode of the second episode or something like that, we have that all like set up and ready to go and, you know, we train a bunch of times and we're totally, you know, completely on top of these two fights.

[SPEAKER_04]: but then after that it's like impossible to find time. [SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, even filming season three, it's like the hours that we're all, you know, working, especially because there's a lot of night shoots and a lot of stuff like that. [SPEAKER_04]: It's like impossible to squeeze in even a little bit of stunt training.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I end up just like learning the choreography like the day before onset, like in-between setups. [SPEAKER_04]: I'll just like run it through and, you know, [SPEAKER_04]: That's also why I'm so thankful for that month of prep because I learned so much, and I feel like I kind of got You know, you just kind of get used to having it sort in your hand and moving with it, and I don't know.

[SPEAKER_04]: So it kind of just becomes a little bit of muscle memory, and then yeah, it's interesting too, because watching my stunt double move. [SPEAKER_04]: like in the same outfit that I'm wearing and he also kind of we move very similarly triggers my brain to make it think like I know what he's doing sometimes I'll just be like oh I thought I knew this part of it but it's just because I watched him do that a couple times so it's like already in my head.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's also part of that like the the the the movie that you see versus the movie that we see kind of a thing you know exactly and we'll be right back right after this [SPEAKER_02]: I'll come back, it's Kyle Meredith with Walker Scoobell. [SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know, I mean, that can probably like lend itself to, like...

[SPEAKER_02]: giving more humanity to the performance, I guess, if you're not over-overly practiced. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that makes sense, yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, for sure. [SPEAKER_04]: And since we're working with, you know, most of the time, you know, in season three so far, and even in season two, like all the Lace Trugoni and everybody like there, they're all like professional stunt guys.

[SPEAKER_04]: So there's, I've never, even when they're swinging these, like clubs in my head or throwing, you know, I guess, TGI dodgeballs at us. [SPEAKER_04]: I've never, you know, scared to fight them or, you know, any, do any action sequences with them because they're so good at what they do. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm, like, I feel like I'm, I feel like I'm safer fighting them than I am just like doing any normal scene.

[SPEAKER_04]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, and, and I want to quickly bring up, you know, you just, other, you got the cast because you get a, you know, you get some fresh cast every single season and some of those [SPEAKER_02]: what he's doing in there. [SPEAKER_02]: These are incredible actors, but they're coming onto your show.

[SPEAKER_02]: Do they look to you at all? [SPEAKER_02]: Do you feel like the expert at all in those moments? [SPEAKER_04]: I never feel like the expert at anything. [SPEAKER_04]: But I don't know. [SPEAKER_04]: I guess I don't [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if they looked me. [SPEAKER_04]: I kind of just I have to remind myself to not like, you know, when we have like Timothy Simmons like and Christian Charlotte, they're both hilarious.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I think if anything, I'm like less on it because I'm trying not to laugh. [SPEAKER_04]: You know, we recently casted, this is just a three thing, but we recently casted, you know, Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite. [SPEAKER_04]: and, you know, during those scenes, I felt awful because, you know, the camera's, you know, right here on her and I'm like, she's, we're doing the scenes.

[SPEAKER_04]: She's improvving a little bit. [SPEAKER_04]: And so I do the entire scene just covering my face. [SPEAKER_04]: So I don't, like, laugh or like, don't look smile at all. [SPEAKER_04]: And she just, like, works right through it. [SPEAKER_04]: So that. [SPEAKER_04]: Or like she'll say something and I'll start laughing for like two minutes and she'll just like just keep talking like stay in it and then it'll make it worse for me.

[SPEAKER_04]: And that's to say it's anything happened with like Timothy Simmons and Jason Menzukas. [SPEAKER_04]: It's like, I'm not the reason I'm not late, you know, cracking jokes back is because I'm trying not to laugh. [SPEAKER_04]: because, you know, they just, I don't even know how their brains work.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's the same. [SPEAKER_02]: Just wait until the director says just improv with them. [SPEAKER_02]: Just throw you in that deep end. [SPEAKER_02]: That's that. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not right to that. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I would be right to that. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't, I remember reading about Kate, you know, signing on to it for a season three and and of course she's, you know, she's one of my favorites.

[SPEAKER_02]: She's one of the greats out there. [SPEAKER_02]: She's probably got in my top five favorite, like SNL skits of all time. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, I can't not imagine working across from her, I guess, is what I'm getting to. [SPEAKER_02]: What are you talking about when you want to have the same favorite one?

[SPEAKER_02]: This is not one of the most most of her famous, but they were redoing Casa Blanca, re-shooting Casa Blanca. [SPEAKER_02]: It was the extended scenes or directors cut or something like that. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's what, and she's with JK Simmons. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's just her reactions to what he says.

[SPEAKER_02]: is one of the funny, the hardest I've ever laughed in my life, my wife and I still quote it to this day. [SPEAKER_04]: That was hilarious. [SPEAKER_04]: Before I even worked with her, I already knew a lot of my favorite skit from her was that one with Ryan Gosling. [SPEAKER_04]: The aliens, right?

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: That was hilarious. [SPEAKER_04]: And so I think I kind of went down the rabbit hole when I started looking at all of her stuff. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, which honestly made it worse like harder for me to work with her because I was thinking about her doing these like these sketch or I guess like skits wall I was working with her so I didn't help me at all.

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, good on you. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't wait to see that scene and how it plays out next season. [SPEAKER_02]: That's, uh, I want to see it on your face or not on your face anyway, uh, or anything. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, anyway, it's such a great show and what you guys are doing and everybody's swinging for the fence on this.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, so congratulations on not only another great season, but, um, the end of a press tour for you. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, man. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, it was going to talk to you. [SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully we'll do it again next season. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, hopefully.
