[SPEAKER_05]: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of May Chand High Five. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm your dungeon master, Casey Pappas, and this week, our ranking comes from Jackson on our Patreon. [SPEAKER_05]: Woo, hi, Jackson. [SPEAKER_05]: If you want to submit a ranking for the show, consider subscribing.

[SPEAKER_05]: And now, shill most, to least likely, to order food from a sketchy street vendor. [SPEAKER_00]: He's going crazy to show. [SPEAKER_00]: He did it. [SPEAKER_00]: Most to least. [SPEAKER_00]: Most to least or least. [SPEAKER_05]: Most to least. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, most to least. [SPEAKER_00]: Cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're switching it up. [SPEAKER_00]: First. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Ron McStay. [SPEAKER_00]: Howdy. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Ron McStay. [SPEAKER_00]: Play in solid May, Brian. [SPEAKER_00]: And I love street vendors. [SPEAKER_00]: Street vendors are great. [SPEAKER_00]: I did just get like a really bad food poisoning episode.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm a little nervous about food in general from places I haven't been to before. [SPEAKER_00]: But I love a street vendor. [SPEAKER_00]: Keep doing what you're doing. [SPEAKER_00]: We love you. [SPEAKER_07]: Nothing like a New York hotdog. [SPEAKER_07]: Next, Max Weinberg. [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, hello.

[SPEAKER_07]: I'm Max. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm playing Wyatt Forcite. [SPEAKER_07]: And yeah, I would. [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, as I just said, nothing like a New York hotdog from a vendor. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: I am finally Robin Lincoln hotdog. [SPEAKER_03]: Hi, my name is Robin Langenhup, playing Hayden Conquade, and if we're talking outside the U.S., the street fenders are where you get the absolute best foods.

[SPEAKER_03]: Here in the U.S., it's a little bit dicing here. [SPEAKER_00]: I have a question though about what constitutes sketchy. [SPEAKER_00]: I think you've got to be. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_03]: I have the same question. [SPEAKER_00]: a guy with like an unmarked cart. [SPEAKER_00]: Just yelling at people like hey fucking I got hot dogs for you.

[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I think also with like we think of like these restaurants that are just like either just around their just burger places. [SPEAKER_07]: They're just, you know, and they're either going to be the best food in the entire city you're in. [SPEAKER_07]: Right. [SPEAKER_07]: Or you will get food poisoning.

[SPEAKER_07]: There is no way to find out. [SPEAKER_03]: And with the last time you cleaned out that hot dog water is my question. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, this vendor would say, oh, you cleaned it out. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, no. [SPEAKER_00]: That's disgusting. [SPEAKER_00]: I know I talked about eating it frozen hot dogs on the Patreon, but this is not the Patreon.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is the main feed. [SPEAKER_00]: And in the main feed, I don't do shit like that. [SPEAKER_03]: On the main feed, I'm a good person. [SPEAKER_05]: And with that, let's dive, ready in. [SPEAKER_05]: Last time, on May Chained High Five. [SPEAKER_05]: Solome rushed out to tell Barabas about Lysander's mysterious vanishing.

[SPEAKER_05]: Before the two could resolve the matter, Wyatt witnessed Solome's mysterious kidnapping as well. [SPEAKER_05]: Hayden was able to talk down a distraught Davy, and the remaining duo, with Barabas and Toe, head to a nearby church of the eternal flame, hoping to gain divine information about their foe.

[SPEAKER_05]: Wyatt recovers the spell slot necessary to cast legend lore, discovering a parasitic presence near the flame as he does. [SPEAKER_05]: Simultaneously, you all discover facts to be the mastermind behind Echo, having cultivated its founding to serve his esoteric purposes. [SPEAKER_05]: Solome, you discover Winona also held captive, and after setting aside differences for now, escape your cages and begin to explore Facts' Labyrinthine Library.

[SPEAKER_05]: Wyatt, Hayden, and Barabas were able to get the help of the grad students, gaining access to the University of Echo, and from there, Fax's Labrynth. [SPEAKER_05]: Where we are now. [SPEAKER_00]: Couldn't be facts as labyrinth. [SPEAKER_00]: Cut it. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm in the library. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know about you.

[SPEAKER_05]: Let's pick up with Wyatt and Hayton. [SPEAKER_05]: Wyatt and Hayton, you are where we last left off, you are at the precipice. [SPEAKER_05]: The entrance to the library, you see that it opens into a black abyss below you. [SPEAKER_05]: The wall that this doorway is set into is a massive bookshelf.

[SPEAKER_05]: Impossible huge. [SPEAKER_05]: There are thousands of books. [SPEAKER_05]: The large metal doors that open into this area [SPEAKER_05]: are just on their hinges, extending out into nothingness. [SPEAKER_03]: Hayden leans over the edge, looks down, looks left right up, leans back and goes, well, sorry, Salamé, I don't think we're getting in here, time to go.

[SPEAKER_07]: Why us to rose himself off the edge? [UNKNOWN]: No, [SPEAKER_03]: Well, why I don't suppose you have any kind of way of granting us the power of flight. [SPEAKER_03]: Is that something that you're slimy? [SPEAKER_03]: Whatever can do to us for us? [SPEAKER_07]: I don't, but I can move my lightball around to see at least what we're looking with.

[SPEAKER_03]: Barabas, I'm just kind of assuming that you don't have any kind of divine power that you could use to help us out here. [SPEAKER_03]: You see more like a on the ground tap. [SPEAKER_05]: He just, he smiles. [SPEAKER_05]: And he says, well, I am good at climbing. [SPEAKER_05]: Why it hops on.

[SPEAKER_05]: He's not on top of her emphasis back because, nope, off off off off. [SPEAKER_07]: He's like five eleven. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm pretty sure I said five eleven. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, why don't you shine your light around. [SPEAKER_03]: See if you can find a foothold. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, why it'll kind of move his daylight spell around the wall of this cylinder.

[SPEAKER_05]: You do, and as you do, as you look around the wall, you notice, in set in the wall up and to the left of the doorway that you're in right now is a hallway leading back into the bookshelf, which feels [SPEAKER_05]: really at odds with how this structure is laid out. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, a path is a path.

[SPEAKER_05]: How far away is it? [SPEAKER_05]: I'd say it is a good sixty foot climb. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, it's a little, it's a little far off. [SPEAKER_05]: However, it is the closest thing you see that is not just bookshelves. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, Brad, as do you want to go first and set some like rock climbing points that will maybe we can all climb over there together?

[SPEAKER_07]: Sure. [SPEAKER_05]: He with ease lower himself down onto the bookshelf and begins to climb and he he's good. [SPEAKER_05]: Wow. [SPEAKER_05]: It's it's kind of weird. [SPEAKER_05]: He just sort of scales his way up to the bookshelf. [SPEAKER_05]: or up to the hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: As he's moving, it looks pretty effortless.

[SPEAKER_05]: He says, this path seems clear. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not the best judge of what the average layperson is going to do, but you all seem more capable than the average layperson. [SPEAKER_03]: Why don't you go on ahead so that if you have a misshop, I'll be free to collect ya. [SPEAKER_03]: from the bottom of the bottomless hole.

[SPEAKER_03]: Tie a rope off. [SPEAKER_03]: I'll hold the other end of the rope. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not just saying you go free wheeling out there. [SPEAKER_07]: Alternative idea. [SPEAKER_07]: Can you shoot your rope to the wood over there? [SPEAKER_07]: So we also have something to kind of hold on to and we can tie it down here.

[SPEAKER_03]: What like lean out and fire? [SPEAKER_07]: Diagnally up to yeah, I've seen you make some crazy shots. [SPEAKER_03]: That's true. [SPEAKER_03]: Alright, I'll see what I can do. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, I will need a pretty easy acrobatics check. [SPEAKER_05]: to make sure that you keep your balance as you're leaning out.

[SPEAKER_05]: So roll acrobatics. [SPEAKER_05]: I'll give him the help action with holding, you know, like holding them in. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Do it with advantage with why holding you. [SPEAKER_05]: Should I say tenderly? [SPEAKER_05]: Why it's why it's little arms embrace.

[SPEAKER_03]: That's a twenty-two. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, easy. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: You fire the arrow from sinks into the upper right corner of the hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: It sinks into the wall. [SPEAKER_05]: All right, kiddo, off you go. [SPEAKER_05]: Roll a survival check to test it. [SPEAKER_05]: That's a twelfth.

[SPEAKER_05]: Seems sturdy. [SPEAKER_05]: But the adjustment. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I'll go first. [SPEAKER_07]: Right, guess second. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it gives it a little tug and starts to climb up? [SPEAKER_05]: Great, you start climbing up. [SPEAKER_05]: Roll acrobatics and roll it with advantage because you have the rope.

[SPEAKER_05]: Fourteen athletics. [SPEAKER_05]: As you are nearing the hallway, you feel the ropes start to shift in your hands as you hear the arrow begin tugging on the plaster that it has been shot into. [SPEAKER_05]: However, you make it to the hallway and climb in. [SPEAKER_03]: I smack the arrow back in.

[SPEAKER_05]: You smack it back in. [SPEAKER_05]: You see dust come out of the hole that it's that you're digging it back into. [SPEAKER_05]: It feels a little wobbly. [SPEAKER_03]: I watch the dust drift down the opening. [SPEAKER_03]: You know what? [SPEAKER_03]: Why Brad is one, y'all just hold onto the rope form.

[SPEAKER_03]: How about that? [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, this is a little extra hell. [SPEAKER_03]: Sure. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, Brad is grabs the rope and Hayden, you can roll with advantage to get across. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a seventeen. [SPEAKER_05]: All right. [SPEAKER_05]: You, you climb on up with the help of Brad is and why at the rope is sturdy and you all make it to the hallway.

[SPEAKER_03]: Now, what am I looking at here? [SPEAKER_05]: You look behind you. [SPEAKER_05]: It is a long hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: You see it turn at the end and continue on in a way that you can't see. [SPEAKER_05]: The walls of this hallway are just more bookshelves. [SPEAKER_05]: And you are starting to wonder if every single wall in this place is just bookshelves.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to start making marks every few feet like disturbing books in a very particular way that I will notice so that we start to lose track of where we are. [SPEAKER_03]: I can at least track our path back. [SPEAKER_05]: You start to do that. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm going to cast the light can't group on my shield so we have light in the tunnel.

[SPEAKER_07]: Fancy. [SPEAKER_05]: And you all head down this hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: Solome and Winona. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: You're continuing along. [SPEAKER_05]: It's pretty quiet. [SPEAKER_05]: Winona isn't really starting any conversations. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like we sort of made a tentative piece, but I don't know that I see it completely solidified.

[SPEAKER_00]: I have a very warlock question for you, Katie. [SPEAKER_00]: It took a while probably for Hayden and, you know, Hayden and them to get here. [SPEAKER_00]: What I've had, you know, do I have like a little bit of time in the in the convergence of all of this for a little baby short rest? [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, yeah, short rest is thirty minutes or an hour an hour.

[SPEAKER_03]: We sat and prayed for a while. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think as we're walking, once we're safe and out of harm's way, I will look at Winona and say, is it all right, if I just, I'm a little worried about any kind of fights, we've got coming up. [SPEAKER_00]: Can we, if we find a place that's out of the way, you mind if I just heal up for a second?

[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no. [SPEAKER_05]: We, we need you at your best. [SPEAKER_05]: We need to be at our best. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, appreciate it. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, Solomon will take a bit to just reset, get back up to full health. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I think she'll do during this break is I think she will take out Ironwood and send a flower to Maggie and Lila.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it makes her feel better. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you watch us this flower blooms across your hand very slowly. [SPEAKER_05]: And then it reverse blooms. [SPEAKER_05]: It tucks its pedals back in and disappears, not in a scary way. [SPEAKER_05]: In a, it is going somewhere else way.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's nice. [SPEAKER_00]: And then I think I'll make another little flower and hand it to an owner and say, alright, I should be set to go. [SPEAKER_00]: Peace offering. [SPEAKER_05]: She, for now. [SPEAKER_05]: Looks at it. [SPEAKER_05]: Looks at you. [SPEAKER_05]: And says, let's just, let's keep going.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, fair enough. [SPEAKER_00]: And I kind of awkwardly took the flower behind my own ear as I just mutter. [SPEAKER_00]: I did shoot him. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't poison him with flowers or anything. [SPEAKER_05]: You keep walking. [SPEAKER_05]: You are walking down this hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: You turn and it sharply ramps up.

[SPEAKER_05]: It's untroversible. [SPEAKER_05]: The hallway sharply almost ninety degree angle. [SPEAKER_05]: The hallway just goes up. [SPEAKER_05]: You think facts probably wouldn't have a problem with this. [SPEAKER_05]: Roll a perception check. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, with a twelfth, you notice at the foot of the slope.

[SPEAKER_05]: is a bunch of furniture. [SPEAKER_05]: As if this hallway was not always this way. [SPEAKER_00]: A furniture for people? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, like tables, chairs. [SPEAKER_05]: Like, you've seen furniture scattered throughout the library, as if it's just meant to be here. [SPEAKER_05]: You don't know that facts entertains guests, but it's almost like it just comes with the ambiance.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, should we have a look around and see if there's a way around it or a way through it, maybe? [SPEAKER_00]: Are there everything's covered in books? [SPEAKER_05]: Everything's covered in books. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to take a look at the books. [SPEAKER_05]: You take a look at the books.

[SPEAKER_05]: And you notice all of the books in this room start with the letter S. As you notice this, you take out a book, you look at it, and it says, and the first book says serpents and you. [SPEAKER_05]: the second book you take it out and it says sharks how well do we know them. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just taking the critter books for Hayden knowing that probably enjoy reading their little net geo like facts books on the critters.

[SPEAKER_05]: One is called serendipity. [SPEAKER_05]: One is called. [SPEAKER_00]: The secret is in there. [SPEAKER_05]: The secret. [SPEAKER_05]: That's fine. [SPEAKER_05]: But every once in a while you come across a book where the title is just one word. [SPEAKER_05]: You flip it open and every page is filled with this one word.

[SPEAKER_00]: and the word is. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, they all start with the letter S. Oh, as in, like, each of the books, some of the books have one word and they are different words that start with the letter S. Yeah, some of the books are regular books and then some of them are these weird one word books that start with the letter that all the other books in this room do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, be damned. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you make of this? [SPEAKER_05]: When I want to take a look at it, [SPEAKER_00]: This one says shark-like, four thousand times. [SPEAKER_05]: That's, why would anyone need this? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, that need is the key here. [SPEAKER_00]: I think he might kind of dream this place up as he goes along.

[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's like a thought that got stuck in his head. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_00]: Like he wouldn't able to let go of a word. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm curious to find the V room somewhere around here. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, are there any connections between the boards that are singular words in a book?

[SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't look like it. [SPEAKER_05]: It all of them are just [SPEAKER_05]: different like there is a book that just says snake. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, ever like any word that starts with S that you can think of is in here. [SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of a curious question. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't.

[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think? [SPEAKER_00]: Do you think it's possible to exist inside somebody's mind? [SPEAKER_05]: When I want to look at you and says, I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's had two out there. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, listen, I don't. [SPEAKER_05]: What do you mean?

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, my family raised me on all this rivership, and I guess I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: So sometimes there's what I do know is that there is a place where soul and spirit kind of converges. [SPEAKER_00]: And so what I wonder is maybe we're existing in some sort of library that is in some way faxes consciousness.

[SPEAKER_00]: Is that too much? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry if that's too much. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, he talked about, he say something about dreams, like becoming real. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Fax said that his dreams bowed to his wishes. [SPEAKER_00]: He said that he dreams things into life. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I wonder if we're sort of inside a reality built on Fax's dreams.

[SPEAKER_05]: I think that's possible. [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on. [SPEAKER_00]: We might be trying to outsmart something of a minor god here by trying to do this, and I don't necessarily trust myself to do this, but do you think there's a world where we can influence facts and dreams? [SPEAKER_00]: Like if we could suggest a path to Los Andre, maybe we would find one.

[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe, I just, I don't, I don't have that kind of power. [SPEAKER_00]: But it could be interesting, let me say. [SPEAKER_05]: When Anna starts looking through more of the books, and there's more, there's more of these one word ones. [SPEAKER_00]: What you got? [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, this one says stairs.

[SPEAKER_00]: Open the stairs book. [SPEAKER_05]: She opens it. [SPEAKER_05]: Are there stairs? [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing happens. [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing happens. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just stairs. [SPEAKER_00]: What if okay? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, what if we put the stairs book where we would need, this is all very conceptual.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm normally not the person doing this. [SPEAKER_05]: She's like, listen, I would rather it be you than nobody. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: What if we took the stairs book and put it where we wanted stairs? [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_04]: She hands the book to you.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: I... This might not work. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to try to like put the stairs book down. [SPEAKER_00]: And do my best to imagine stairs. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: You set it down and you imagine stairs. [SPEAKER_00]: As vividly as I can. [SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm gonna imagine a specific set of stairs.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna say like I imagine the stairs in [SPEAKER_00]: in the apartment that I shared with South Addius and Thread. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna imagine a set of stairs that I know well enough like detail by detail, that I could like conjure them into existence. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: If we were in a place where dreams became reality.

[SPEAKER_05]: Your spellcasting modifier is charisma. [SPEAKER_05]: Correct. [SPEAKER_05]: Roll a charisma check. [SPEAKER_00]: That is a twenty one. [SPEAKER_05]: You begin to imagine these stairs. [SPEAKER_05]: You feel the... Wait, what? [SPEAKER_05]: What material did you say they were? [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the apartment that we would have lived in was massive and very plush, but in a old school old money kind of way where the fixtures are all [SPEAKER_00]: wood and perhaps a little bit dated but in a very classy like patina sort of way and not in a out of style way. [SPEAKER_00]: I think I think they were wooden creaky.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not creaky. [SPEAKER_00]: God forbid creaky. [SPEAKER_00]: Not creaky. [SPEAKER_00]: Perfectly joined like finest joinery wooden stairs with a beautiful lush green runner over the top. [SPEAKER_05]: you picture these stairs in your mind, and you see them vividly. [SPEAKER_05]: And when you open your eyes, they're there.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think something looks and goes, ah, I'll make stairs. [SPEAKER_05]: When Ona looks at the stairs and goes, oh shit. [SPEAKER_00]: I think you can make things here. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, um... Oh, Mr. It's thinking about rabbits. [SPEAKER_05]: Nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't start with this.

[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, you, you look. [SPEAKER_05]: The stairs book is open at the bottom of the stairs and all of the pages are blank. [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, get the shark one. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna go get anything with tea. [SPEAKER_00]: Actually, you know what I will actually do. [SPEAKER_00]: I get the snake one.

[SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I take the snake one. [SPEAKER_05]: Unfortunately, I've already said where the snake one is. [SPEAKER_05]: So you don't need a role for it. [SPEAKER_05]: You just, you get the snake one. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think I point that out to Winona and say, it's almost like you can take something from the book.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like the book maybe is almost like a catalog of facts is dreaming and you could almost take facts as dreams from the books and sort of paint them into reality. [SPEAKER_05]: She just says, I don't like this. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, it's bad, honey. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like it sucks, but we're here.

[SPEAKER_00]: We might as well have, but here's, think about a snake. [SPEAKER_05]: I would rather not. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't want to do that. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, man, I wonder what somebody with lasanders as we're, well, let's climb the stairs. [SPEAKER_00]: I wonder what somebody [SPEAKER_00]: With Los Henders, particular sight and imagination, not be able to do with a room like this.

[SPEAKER_00]: You don't think about his paintings? [SPEAKER_05]: You, ooh, roll-in sight. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That's only a nine. [SPEAKER_05]: With a nine, she says, oh, um, no, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't know where he is of this, but I think he might be painting things that are already happening, have happened, or are about to happen.

[SPEAKER_00]: He seems to be a little bit of an oracle, almost. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, for what it's worth, I'm not here to meddle in anybody's business, but when I ran into him, when he got taken, he was looking for you to apologize. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think he might care a lot about you.

[SPEAKER_05]: Can we just, can we keep going? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: No, sorry, darling. [SPEAKER_00]: I just, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: People are tough. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's keep going. [SPEAKER_05]: And you, you look at the top of the stairs is a door. [SPEAKER_05]: You open it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Can we look under it? [SPEAKER_00]: Or through the keyhole, maybe? [SPEAKER_05]: You look through the keyhole, and as you do, Wyatt and Hayden. [SPEAKER_01]: No! [SPEAKER_05]: You turn a corner, and there is a large set of wooden double doors. [SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh. [SPEAKER_05]: As you approach a placard, [SPEAKER_05]: on one of the doors, set in gold, says absolutely no talking permitted.

[SPEAKER_03]: Hayden gestures to Wyatt and points at the plaque and then puts a finger to their mouth and then points at their eyes, points at Wyatt, points at their eyes again, points at Wyatt again. [SPEAKER_03]: Wiggles they're taking care of. [SPEAKER_07]: He's taking every single bit of restraint I have to not say what?

[SPEAKER_07]: Make a wisdom safe. [SPEAKER_05]: Great. [SPEAKER_05]: Do you go in? [SPEAKER_03]: Snow else to go, let's do it. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, Barabas looks at you and shrugs. [SPEAKER_05]: And you head in. [SPEAKER_05]: This room is cavernous. [SPEAKER_05]: It is huge. [SPEAKER_05]: With massive bookshelves in long, neat rows, you're actually not able to see.

[SPEAKER_05]: You see down the hallway in front of you and it extends into the darkness ahead of you. [SPEAKER_05]: You see the hallways leading out to either side with just rows and rows and rows of bookshelves in all directions. [SPEAKER_05]: They are all laid out. [SPEAKER_05]: parallel to the way you're looking.

[SPEAKER_05]: So you're looking down a hallway of bookshelves right now. [SPEAKER_05]: This room is huge. [SPEAKER_05]: And you see way off in the distance in the middle of the room hangs a single chandelier. [SPEAKER_05]: It is the only light in this room outside of why it's shield. [SPEAKER_05]: How high do the bookshelves go?

[SPEAKER_05]: I'd say they're easily, twelve, fourteen feet tall. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it points to himself and then points to the top of one of the bookshelves and starts to climb up. [SPEAKER_07]: To be able to get a bird's eye view of this entire room. [SPEAKER_05]: You start to climb. [SPEAKER_05]: Roll easy, uh, roll easy athletics check.

[SPEAKER_07]: Fourteen. [SPEAKER_05]: With a fourteen, you are able to scale to the top of the bookshelf and you look and it's a little freaky because you're standing on one of many bookshelves. [SPEAKER_05]: You think if you hop to another bookshelf, you might lose track of this one, like there's so many.

[SPEAKER_05]: The only point of reference is the chandelier in the middle of the room. [SPEAKER_07]: why it looks back at the other two and just kind of shrugs. [SPEAKER_03]: Great. [SPEAKER_03]: Great. [SPEAKER_03]: This is not hate and strong suit by any stretch of the imagination. [SPEAKER_03]: They can think their way through wordplay, but this kind of puzzle is beyond their comprehension and they feel completely lost.

[SPEAKER_03]: What do the books around look like? [SPEAKER_05]: Let me take a look at the books. [SPEAKER_05]: They all start with the letter M. Hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Is there one that says map? [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, role and investigation check. [SPEAKER_03]: Can Glitter Baby help me out? [SPEAKER_05]: Hmm, how so?

[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, turning into a magnifying glass. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's fun. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you're good. [SPEAKER_03]: That's an at-twenty. [SPEAKER_03]: Ooh. [SPEAKER_03]: Wow. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks, Glitter Bay. [SPEAKER_05]: You, you find the map book. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.

[SPEAKER_05]: It is, it's weird. [SPEAKER_05]: There are some books you notice that are only one word. [SPEAKER_05]: On the cover, inside, cover to cover, just lists the same word over and over and over. [SPEAKER_05]: This one says, map. [SPEAKER_03]: I open it up. [SPEAKER_03]: Does it say map over and over again?

[SPEAKER_05]: It says map over and over and over and over again. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna go out and live here. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to close my eyes and imagine the letters and the words map reorienting themselves to look like a diagram or a blueprint. [SPEAKER_05]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: What is your spellcasting modifier?

[SPEAKER_03]: It's wisdom. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, roll a wisdom check. [SPEAKER_03]: Thirteen. [SPEAKER_05]: With a thirteen, the words begin to form in your head, and you see, you open your eyes and a map lays on the ground before you. [SPEAKER_05]: The book, your holding, is completely empty. [SPEAKER_05]: And there's a map of this room on the floor in front of you.

[SPEAKER_03]: Alright, I snap my fingers, clap with my arms, draw everybody over here, and show them the map. [SPEAKER_05]: Why, you climb down Barabas walks over, and you all look at the map, and you see three little dots at a place marked entrance. [SPEAKER_05]: Ooh, Barabas motions, walks away for a second, and then walks back, and you see his dot move with him.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm gonna hold on to this and then you see another dot. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: And this one is big. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it's gonna snap a couple times does the big dot react to that sound? [SPEAKER_05]: It freezes for a moment and then continues on its way. [SPEAKER_03]: Is there a clear exit from this room?

[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, yeah, you see that the exit [SPEAKER_05]: is about ten rows over and all the way on the other side of the room. [SPEAKER_05]: The big dot is about five rows over and halfway across the room. [SPEAKER_05]: And you see it slowly moving its way down one of the hallways. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it takes out a journal and just starts writing in it.

[SPEAKER_07]: Why don't we start walking towards the exit? [SPEAKER_07]: Keep an eye on this dot. [SPEAKER_07]: Can see where it does as we move. [SPEAKER_07]: I give a thumbs up. [SPEAKER_07]: Obviously sneaking. [SPEAKER_05]: Bravest nods. [SPEAKER_05]: And I need you all to roll stealth. [SPEAKER_03]: That's another net twenty.

[SPEAKER_05]: Jesus. [SPEAKER_05]: Jesus. [SPEAKER_03]: What a Bravest good. [SPEAKER_05]: Bravest got a Bravest got a sixteen. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: So he's he's he's stealthing. [SPEAKER_07]: That's not as good as I expected. [SPEAKER_07]: What'd you get? [SPEAKER_07]: Why, X? [SPEAKER_07]: What'd you get?

[SPEAKER_07]: Why it with his four starts to take a step and trips over the map and go, uh, and lets out a little, little sound. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, why you trip, call out. [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, and you look down, you see the dot immediately start moving. [SPEAKER_05]: And it's fast.

[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we're already making noise. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to cast in Tangle, in the path that the large dot is traveling. [SPEAKER_05]: Ooh, okay. [SPEAKER_05]: You, you see it moving along and then it halts for a second. [SPEAKER_05]: It needs to make a strength throw. [SPEAKER_03]: It does.

[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, what's your, what's your spell say of DC? [SPEAKER_05]: Seventeen. [SPEAKER_05]: you watch it freeze for a moment on the map and then continue. [SPEAKER_05]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, forever says, all right, we got to go. [SPEAKER_05]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_05]: And you start huffing it.

[SPEAKER_05]: You pass beneath the sand chandelier. [SPEAKER_05]: And as you do a couple of rows over you here. [SPEAKER_05]: And you hear it. [SPEAKER_05]: of something scraping along the ground quickly. [SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, I like that. [SPEAKER_07]: I think we're still just, we're just booking it. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, no, you're booking it.

[SPEAKER_07]: And you, we're in a library booking it. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: That's really good. [SPEAKER_05]: That's good. [SPEAKER_05]: As you're moving, you, [SPEAKER_05]: Look and see the bookshelf next to you. [SPEAKER_05]: Something slams into it from the other side and it starts to fall over on top of you.

[SPEAKER_05]: I need you all to make deck saving throws. [SPEAKER_07]: That's crazy. [SPEAKER_03]: This is my Hayden D. Twenty. [SPEAKER_03]: It's finally cooperating with me properly. [SPEAKER_05]: Thirty-twenty. [SPEAKER_05]: Thirty-twenty. [SPEAKER_05]: Wow. [SPEAKER_05]: Look at y'all. [SPEAKER_05]: Brabist rolled in that one.

[SPEAKER_05]: So as the, as the bookshelf falls, you two are able to duck out of the way just in time. [SPEAKER_05]: It collapses on top of Brabist. [SPEAKER_05]: And as it does, it reveals what is on the other side of the bookshelf. [SPEAKER_05]: So long that you do not see all of it as it coils around the bookshelf on the other side is a worm.

[SPEAKER_05]: Oh no. [SPEAKER_05]: It's mouth is rind with fangs and it breathes. [SPEAKER_05]: and slap and saliva drips from the maw. [SPEAKER_05]: It's not purple, right? [SPEAKER_05]: It is purple. [SPEAKER_05]: No. [SPEAKER_03]: This is so bad, but I appreciate this, the pun, so much. [SPEAKER_03]: It is the bookworm.

[SPEAKER_04]: I'm bookworm. [UNKNOWN]: Oh. [SPEAKER_05]: There is silence as this time. [SPEAKER_05]: You stand there. [SPEAKER_05]: Do you continue to run? [SPEAKER_03]: Old Hayden would have run. [SPEAKER_03]: New Hayden would try to save Barabas. [SPEAKER_03]: Is Barabas even accessible? [SPEAKER_03]: Can I reach Barabas or is he completely crushed under the bookshelf?

[SPEAKER_05]: This bookshelf, having collapsed on top of a person, you would think that there would be like sort of space where a person would be. [SPEAKER_05]: There's not. [SPEAKER_05]: It's almost like he's gone. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, then, yeah, we're going. [SPEAKER_05]: You take off and immediately the worms head.

[SPEAKER_05]: This end snaps to face where you're running. [SPEAKER_05]: and it begins slithering. [SPEAKER_03]: I grab Wyatt to stop him from moving, pick up a random book and toss it. [SPEAKER_05]: You toss the book. [SPEAKER_05]: It clatters to the ground, the warm shift directions, and pounces over the bookshelf, impouncing on top of the book and begins to defy.

[SPEAKER_03]: I put a finger to my mouth again and just start tiptoeing. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it puts away a fireball? [SPEAKER_05]: The call. [SPEAKER_05]: While you are tiptoeing back from this worm, Salman Winona, you were looking through the keyhole. [SPEAKER_05]: It is another room lined with shelves.

[SPEAKER_05]: However, these shelves have jars. [SPEAKER_05]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_05]: On them, there's something, there's something in each of the jars, unmoving, but you can't quite make out what it is from here. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, there's room full of jars. [SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't look like there's anybody in here, so.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not as well, go through. [SPEAKER_05]: I know no shrugs, and says, yeah, I mean, can't be worse than the cages, right? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I think you might want to knock on some wood if you can find it. [SPEAKER_05]: The door is wood, so she just sort of... I open it. [SPEAKER_05]: The room... It's not too big.

[SPEAKER_05]: All of the walls in this room, like every other room that you've seen so far, has been is lined with shelves. [SPEAKER_05]: However, these shelves, there are some books, but between books, there are jars, as you saw before, but they aren't [SPEAKER_05]: like Mason jars, or anything that your familiar with these are like scientific jars, like taxidermy jars, things that hold things that used to be alive.

[SPEAKER_00]: And what praetel is in these jars? [SPEAKER_05]: What isn't? [SPEAKER_05]: You see things like small pigs. [SPEAKER_05]: You see things like a floating severed hand. [SPEAKER_05]: You see eyeballs, just a one jar is just full of eyeballs. [SPEAKER_05]: In the middle of the room is a desk and on this desk in a neat little line is a series of jars, each of them holding a brain.

[SPEAKER_05]: Behind the desk are two doors. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, shall we have a little look at the brain table? [SPEAKER_00]: The table with the brains on them. [SPEAKER_05]: You look in Winona is sort of... [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, this is bad. [SPEAKER_00]: Unless you got any other ideas. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, listen, I ain't always the brightest bulb, but I'm just doing my best.

[SPEAKER_00]: So if you got any better ideas by all means, honey, throw them at me. [SPEAKER_04]: I don't. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you want to look at the brain drawer with me? [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we fine. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you still will draw a game too. [SPEAKER_00]: I probably making you a little nauseous.

[SPEAKER_05]: She says, let's just, let's look at the brains. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, here. [SPEAKER_00]: No, she wants more of this. [SPEAKER_00]: I give her some more will of bark. [SPEAKER_05]: She goes, thanks. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, they should help too. [SPEAKER_00]: I give her a little bit of peppermint too.

[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the, um, she starts, uh, she starts chewing on the peppermint. [SPEAKER_05]: You make your way over. [SPEAKER_05]: It is a nice, like, mahogany. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: As jars of brains go, they're pretty quality. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh no. [SPEAKER_05]: The desk is really nice.

[SPEAKER_05]: It has sort of a green and set on top. [SPEAKER_05]: It looks, it's really neat, very, like, classic study. [SPEAKER_05]: On it are maybe five jars of brains. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, is there anything differentiating them or throwing notes? [SPEAKER_00]: We look around the desk, is there anything happening there?

[SPEAKER_05]: You look, you look, and each one has a little placard underneath. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh great, what do they say? [SPEAKER_05]: The one going from left to right, they read Gilly, Claudia, Rinnick, Bartholomew, and Rosie. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, we take a look around at the books again. [UNKNOWN]: Sure.

[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, you take a look around at the books and every book in this room has a T. Starts with a letter T. Great. [SPEAKER_00]: I purposefully avoid looking at any proper names and I. That's just like the doors, actually. [SPEAKER_05]: Great. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, which door do you head towards? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I just want to look at him.

[SPEAKER_00]: Can we just get a sense of what's going on? [SPEAKER_05]: They are identical. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, figured. [SPEAKER_05]: Wouldn't paneled or Nate door knobs. [SPEAKER_05]: They look exactly the same. [SPEAKER_00]: Can I try like, I don't know, just move in a brain around. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, yeah, which one do you move?

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think the first thing I'm going to try to do is just alphabetize everything. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's where my brain goes first. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to go, I'm going to arrange in Bartholomew Claudia, Gilly, Renek Rosie. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, you go, since Galeas first in the order, you go over to Galeas and start to move the jar.

[SPEAKER_05]: And you hear a voice. [SPEAKER_05]: That says, I love, I don't go around manhandling you. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, shit, you're alive. [SPEAKER_05]: And the brain swivels in its jar. [SPEAKER_05]: And it says, what's the big idea? [SPEAKER_00]: Why, sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know you were alive, and you're bright in a jar.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Are they a lot, you Gilly? [SPEAKER_00]: Are you a name's Gilly? [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, my name's Gilly. [SPEAKER_00]: I feel the tire. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not like a friend of mine. [SPEAKER_05]: I... the brain pauses and says, I don't rightly not. [SPEAKER_00]: We're at.

[SPEAKER_05]: I don't remember much anything other than being in this room. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what's door we have to go through? [SPEAKER_05]: Hmm, she swivels in her jar and says, you're all gonna wanna go through that one. [SPEAKER_05]: And she points at the door on the left.

[SPEAKER_05]: And as she says that, you hear another voice that says, don't listen to her. [SPEAKER_05]: She's got her rights and left mixed up again. [SPEAKER_05]: You'll be wanting that door, dearie. [SPEAKER_05]: And they'd brain on the far end, Rosie, begins pointing at the right door. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, shit.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Rosie, pleasure to meet you. [SPEAKER_00]: What's everybody else think? [SPEAKER_00]: Claudia, Renek Bartholomew, where should we go? [SPEAKER_05]: Gaili says, oh, I wouldn't ask them. [SPEAKER_05]: They're all dead. [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I got to just tap on the glass of Renek to see if Renek responds.

[SPEAKER_05]: You do. [SPEAKER_05]: And Rosie goes, oh, I guess a little macabre. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know if you, you know, I don't know if y'all are telling me the truth, your brains and jars. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, no, no, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: That'll mean things if taking a turn.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of fun in a way. [SPEAKER_05]: When it's just holding your head like, oh God, this just got so much worse. [SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of interesting, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: uh... rosy points to the door on the right and says yet no you'll be wanting that door do you read that door and points to the one on the left says leads to a grizzly death at the hands of the claw at the claws of the master's pet what kind of pet big nasty big nasty yet another makes kind of a lot of sense are at uh... sorry gilly why do you think we ought to go to the the uh... left hand or [SPEAKER_05]: Gilles says, oh, because it's the right one.

[SPEAKER_05]: Sorry, it's the correct one. [SPEAKER_00]: Why does if you go through the wrong one? [SPEAKER_05]: You die. [SPEAKER_00]: At the hands of the master's pet. [SPEAKER_05]: At the claws of the master's pet, correct? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, this we're all in the same pet, and y'all don't want us to just get a clear sense of sort of motive here y'all don't want us dead.

[SPEAKER_05]: No, why would they both say no, why would we want you dead? [SPEAKER_05]: Alright, um, Galey looks at Rosie and says, uh, listen, you need to stop telling them to go through that door. [SPEAKER_05]: I know what you are. [SPEAKER_05]: You're what those in the psychiatric profession call compulsive.

[SPEAKER_05]: And swivels back to you says, does it for attention she does? [SPEAKER_05]: And Rosie says, why I'd never see the way she abuses me. [SPEAKER_05]: I've got affamined a crack you want right now. [SPEAKER_05]: And they both start to push up against the sides of their jars in order to try and get near each other.

[SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Just are unmoving. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Is this a thing more like one dollar line? [SPEAKER_05]: They both go, yeah, she is. [SPEAKER_00]: Great. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Gilly, honey, what door is Rosie telling me to go through?

[SPEAKER_05]: What door is Rosie telling you to go through? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Rosie is telling you to go through the door on the right. [SPEAKER_00]: And you're telling me to go. [SPEAKER_00]: The one on the left. [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm telling you to go through the door and the left. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, Rosie.

[SPEAKER_00]: What door is Gilly trying to tell me to go through? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Gilly's trying to tell you to go through the door on the right. [SPEAKER_00]: What? [SPEAKER_05]: What door do you want me to go through? [SPEAKER_05]: I want you to go through the door on the right. [SPEAKER_00]: Now that is real interest in all right.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that means we ought to go through the door on the left. [SPEAKER_05]: The Rosie's brain stem starts to like scratch. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, for brain as if to be like, well, no, no, hey, you know what? [SPEAKER_00]: My fault. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll go first if I, I'm gonna go through this door and if I don't come back, go through the right one.

[SPEAKER_05]: You step to the door on the left. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: you place your hand on the dot. [SPEAKER_07]: They're both trapped. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: And a gray render comes out anyway. [SPEAKER_05]: No, you open the door and there is a hallway leading off into the distance.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it doesn't seem like we have met death on this door. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you like to do here? [SPEAKER_05]: You hear growling coming from the other door. [SPEAKER_05]: And Rosie goes, well, shit. [SPEAKER_05]: Rosie, I wouldn't be very nice of you. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I'm so sorry that I crave an attainment from time to time.

[SPEAKER_05]: I'm a brain and a jaw. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what, I'm gonna make you tea. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm gonna just like pour some peppermint into Rosie's little jar and just be like, why do you just, suck on that for a minute and just pick your attitude, God. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh God. [SPEAKER_03]: The Rosie literally shrivels up.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, you want some tea. [SPEAKER_05]: Gaili says, I don't know if that's good for my sort of composition. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, that's fair. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Rosie gets some. [SPEAKER_05]: Rosie begins to shrivel and goes, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I am going to actually just in case Hayden and Wyatt end up in this room.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to leave a note that says, liar and put it under Rosie's placard. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think as we go through this, as we go through this, like these these different things, I think Solomon is starting to think about leaving trails. [SPEAKER_00]: for people, so. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: She'll leave the stairs book out where it was. [SPEAKER_00]: She'll write the liar underneath Rosie's and we'll just keep plugging along. [SPEAKER_05]: Gilly says right. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, uh, have a good time. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_00]: It's been, uh, it's really been something.

[SPEAKER_00]: Gilly has been nice meeting you, Rosie. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's been a time. [SPEAKER_05]: They both sort of bobbing their jars. [SPEAKER_00]: Claudia, Rinnick, Martha, all of you. [SPEAKER_00]: Rest in peace. [SPEAKER_05]: They lay unmoving. [SPEAKER_00]: Great. [SPEAKER_00]: Did they have whispers?

[SPEAKER_05]: Roll a charisma check. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just curious. [SPEAKER_00]: This doesn't matter, but I have curious. [SPEAKER_00]: That's so bad. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like a tad. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: With a ten, you attempt to sort of summon the river. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: The world starts to gray and then fades back.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not be a little harder here. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, worth shot. [SPEAKER_05]: You continue on. [SPEAKER_05]: Why it? [SPEAKER_05]: And Hayden. [SPEAKER_05]: You are slowly backing away from a purple worm. [SPEAKER_03]: While we were cut away to Rowan, I realized I have the spell silence.

[SPEAKER_01]: Hey! [SPEAKER_05]: Is silence verbal? [SPEAKER_03]: It is verbal, which I would realize when I'm about to cast it. [SPEAKER_05]: I will say as go to cast silence, you realize that you would have to say it. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I will cast silence, but I will cast it so that the sphere is in front of where the worm will go when it comes after us.

[SPEAKER_05]: You cast silence on the space between you and the worm. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes. [SPEAKER_05]: As you do, it snaps around quicker than you might expect and palaces. [SPEAKER_05]: as it does it enters the area of silence pulls up short and sits for a second run you run yeah absolutely you all run down the aisle you clear it to the end of the aisle you hear [SPEAKER_05]: of the worm, and you hear Kodong, Kodong, Kodong, Kodong, Kodong, Kodong, Kodong.

[SPEAKER_05]: Getting louder and louder as you look back and see the bookshelf's domino falling to your left. [SPEAKER_05]: of the worm dragging itself along the ground, coming towards you. [SPEAKER_05]: Roll a constitution check. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay! [SPEAKER_05]: Everyone's favorite stat. [SPEAKER_05]: twenty one also twenty one you approach as you do you hear a you're squeaking coming from above you there's the sounds there's the sounds of the worm there's the sounds of the bookshelves falling but you also hear like a [SPEAKER_05]: and you don't know what that is.

[SPEAKER_05]: Don't have time to think about that. [SPEAKER_05]: You turn and run into the hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: There are doors behind you and you see the worm skid to a halt on the aisle. [SPEAKER_05]: That's the word I've been looking for this whole time. [SPEAKER_05]: The worm skids to a halt on the aisle and begins be lining it towards the door to close it.

[SPEAKER_05]: Yes. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: You're not gonna stop it, but you close it. [SPEAKER_05]: And you see that there is a wooden beam that you can lock into place. [SPEAKER_03]: Ooh, lovely. [SPEAKER_05]: That can't be enough. [SPEAKER_05]: It'll be enough if we believe it's enough, all right?

[SPEAKER_05]: You lower the beam into place as the doors shake. [SPEAKER_05]: Dust falls from the ceiling dust and bits of plaster. [SPEAKER_05]: Stay put. [SPEAKER_05]: The door, you don't know how long this is going to hold. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, let's hope there's another way out of here, cause I don't want to go back.

[SPEAKER_05]: As you do, you feel a hand on your shoulder and a voice that says, we need to go. [SPEAKER_05]: Whoa. [SPEAKER_05]: You look at Barabas's with you. [SPEAKER_03]: Frick. [SPEAKER_03]: I hold up my crossbow at Barabas. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: He looks at you. [SPEAKER_05]: Looks at the crossbow.

[SPEAKER_05]: And then looks at the door behind you and says, you really want to do that right now. [SPEAKER_03]: Fuck, all right. [SPEAKER_03]: But you need to explain how you exist. [SPEAKER_05]: This is all right. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I don't know how people have told you by now. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_03]: One time when his parents were really happy. [SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no, just keep running. [SPEAKER_05]: You run. [SPEAKER_00]: I like the idea that why it's parents have said one time when we were really happy. [SPEAKER_07]: No, that's just how why it explains it. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: It's all me.

[SPEAKER_05]: You are continuing along with Winona. [SPEAKER_05]: You turn and enter a saloon. [SPEAKER_05]: There is a bar across the room with various sundry glasses and bottles all seemingly in working order. [SPEAKER_05]: There are a series of tables set out. [SPEAKER_05]: All of the walls are book shelves, which is weird.

[SPEAKER_05]: But aside from that, a normal saloon. [SPEAKER_00]: What's the letter here? [SPEAKER_05]: The letter. [SPEAKER_00]: Today's room is brought to you by the letter. [SPEAKER_00]: P. [SPEAKER_00]: P, alright. [SPEAKER_05]: And as you walk in, you look and there is a book, a single book, on one of the tables.

[SPEAKER_05]: Across the room, you see a door. [SPEAKER_00]: Sure, we go have a look at the, uh, the one single book can speak loosely laid out on the table as if for someone to find it. [SPEAKER_05]: When on a size and says, okay, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about you, I'm having a good time here.

[SPEAKER_05]: You walk over to the book, and it is flipped to a page called the story of the three. [SPEAKER_00]: Ooh! [SPEAKER_00]: Salma goes to the bar, and pours herself in Winona a drink. [SPEAKER_05]: Winona says, do you trust drinks here? [SPEAKER_00]: No, honey, hair the dog, here you go. [SPEAKER_05]: She takes it from you and goes, all right.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we, I read, you read. [SPEAKER_05]: And the book says, in the beginning, there were the three. [SPEAKER_05]: The first, the eldest, was one of order. [SPEAKER_05]: Everything had a time and place, a beginning, but more importantly, an ending. [SPEAKER_05]: He was not unkind in his punctual lawful nature, but was passionate in its upkeeping.

[SPEAKER_05]: The second was a being of compassion. [SPEAKER_05]: Though she knew that order must be upcapped, her first thoughts were to caring and nurturing the unfortunate even at the cost of herself. [SPEAKER_05]: The third was a wild child. [SPEAKER_05]: chaotic, yet creative, they continuously set about on new endeavors inventing, crafting, forming new.

[SPEAKER_05]: And the three found their roles each suited to them. [SPEAKER_05]: The youngest would create life according to their whims, sprouting it from the land itself. [SPEAKER_05]: The eldest [SPEAKER_05]: would prune these creations in accordance with the order of all things, burning away those in their time.

[SPEAKER_05]: But the middle would care for these creations in their pruning, cleansing them a new, and passing them from eldest to youngest again. [SPEAKER_05]: And so this cycle continued. [SPEAKER_05]: Growth, death, rebirth, [SPEAKER_05]: Wilds, Flame, River. [SPEAKER_05]: And you see a symbol here.

[SPEAKER_05]: It is a circle broken at the top by a line, stretching down to its center. [SPEAKER_05]: At the place where the circle and line would intersect two more lines run parallel to the bigger one, capping the edges of the circle, and preventing them from touching the single line. [SPEAKER_05]: and then the book continues, but there was another, a fourth.

[SPEAKER_05]: He was angered by the circle of birth and death. [SPEAKER_05]: He found it unfair that life necessitated death, growth, necessitated pain, and so one night he and the book continues on the next page. [SPEAKER_05]: You turn the page? [SPEAKER_05]: You take the page and begin to turn. [SPEAKER_05]: And as you do, the book grows teeth and snaps closed on your hand.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, shit. [SPEAKER_05]: And you hear, the book sprouts a line of eyeballs along its ridge. [SPEAKER_05]: As you find that you have stuck your hand into the mouth of a mimic. [SPEAKER_00]: Glitter daddy. [SPEAKER_00]: A little baby but you're big. [SPEAKER_00]: Whoa, I wanna know what's inside of there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Can I just gotta wrestle him open? [SPEAKER_05]: It is clamped shut on your hand. [SPEAKER_05]: In fact, you're going to take some damage. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah sure. [SPEAKER_05]: That is six points of piercing damage. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: As it's teeth sink into your wrist. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to cast sleep.

[SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Does it have nineteen or fewer HP? [SPEAKER_05]: You cast sleep on the mimic. [SPEAKER_05]: As you do, you see its eyes... glaze. [SPEAKER_05]: and begin closing one by one down the line. [SPEAKER_05]: And it would be, it would be kind of cute if it wasn't so horrible.

[SPEAKER_00]: Baby, that's gonna cute, still. [SPEAKER_05]: You feel it's jaw on hinge. [SPEAKER_00]: Come down now, baby, come on. [SPEAKER_00]: You're so rad, you're hard. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just trying to read. [SPEAKER_00]: And Solomon starts just gently humming the lullaby that Maggie and Beth would sing for her.

[SPEAKER_05]: You, you hum, of a mimic starts to fall asleep and as you, as it does, you see its book like appearance begin to fade. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh shit! [SPEAKER_05]: as it reverts back to its amorphous true form. [SPEAKER_05]: It collapses its mouth open and as its tongue turns back into its tongue you are able to snatch a few more words from the page.

[SPEAKER_05]: It says [SPEAKER_05]: and so one night, he stole into the camp of the three and began to feed upon, and then the text becomes illegeable. [SPEAKER_05]: The text disappears into the natural ridges of the inside of this creature's mouth. [SPEAKER_05]: Roll an intelligence check. [SPEAKER_00]: When on a roll roll?

[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's a nine for me. [SPEAKER_05]: When owner rolled a nightine. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_05]: And when owner says, do you know much about mimics? [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: I just got a little tiny when they came in their pocket. [SPEAKER_00]: I know they're little trash critters like to hang out down the way twin river, but otherwise, not really.

[SPEAKER_05]: Well, they don't, but they don't seem really imaginative, do they? [SPEAKER_00]: No, I suppose not. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, you seem interested in the story, right? [SPEAKER_00]: So that, oh yeah, yeah, the story probably exists somewhere else in here. [SPEAKER_05]: She shrugs. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: The story of the three? [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that would be S or T, wouldn't it? [SPEAKER_05]: I did say this room was T, right? [SPEAKER_00]: The jar room was T, this room is P. Hmm. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It began to feed upon as what it said, right? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it began to feed.

[SPEAKER_00]: Can I look for stuff about parasites? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, perception. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_05]: I'll go perception or investigation. [SPEAKER_00]: Sixteen. [SPEAKER_05]: You find one about parasites. [SPEAKER_05]: It's dense. [SPEAKER_05]: But it finds a lot of times parasitic relationship consists of one who may or may not know that they're being fed upon.

[SPEAKER_05]: and another that requires the feeding to survive. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think I can say with relative certainty that the river is safe as far as I'm concerned. [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen anything, at least that I know of out of the ordinary about the river, but I'm curious. [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_00]: Would you mind keeping an eye out for this book? [SPEAKER_05]: She says, okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Sure. [SPEAKER_05]: And she gives you a little bit of a side eye. [SPEAKER_00]: Honey, look, I pour another drink. [SPEAKER_00]: I pour myself on to it. [SPEAKER_00]: Sit down a minute, widget.

[SPEAKER_05]: She sets. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to be too forward here. [SPEAKER_00]: And I certainly don't want to be unkind. [SPEAKER_00]: You are. [SPEAKER_00]: A very dear friend of Hayden's. [SPEAKER_00]: The sister, in fact, and I love Hayden very much, and I would like very much to get along with you.

[SPEAKER_00]: One of the first things that you did on me was ask me why I didn't just run from my husband. [SPEAKER_00]: You seem to feel entitled to a lot of information about me, and you were volunteering very little about yourself. [SPEAKER_00]: you have clearly harbored some kind of distaste for me since we got to echo.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I get it, I get that I'm a liability and I understand that. [SPEAKER_00]: And if you want, I can get out of your hair as soon as I damn well can. [SPEAKER_00]: But if we're about to fight together and if we're going to navigate this place together and if we're going to find Los Angeles together, what reason do I have to trust you?

[SPEAKER_00]: I already given you too many details about my own personal life. [SPEAKER_00]: I seem to so everybody feels like they're entitled to them. [SPEAKER_00]: How the hell do I know you're not going to give me up to Jameson just quicker than facts would? [SPEAKER_05]: Listen, I don't like... I don't know that I like you.

[SPEAKER_05]: I don't... I don't know you. [SPEAKER_05]: I know you did a big murder. [SPEAKER_00]: As opposed to what, a small one? [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I mean, if you'd killed any old person, that would have attracted some attention. [SPEAKER_05]: But you did attract the attention of one of the biggest factions here, like extant.

[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't make it any more of an important murder than anybody else's. [SPEAKER_05]: Everybody dies the same way when on a. I know, but more people care about that one. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not saying it's right. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm just saying that that's how it is. [SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, I understand that I'm a liability for you.

[SPEAKER_05]: All I'm saying is that Hayden doesn't need the heat. [SPEAKER_00]: I agree. [SPEAKER_05]: There's already one faction trying to kill them. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, unbeknownst to me, Tiberius Jameson reached out to Hayden, asking them to turn me in, and as far as I know Hayden stuck their foot in it.

[SPEAKER_05]: Well, that sounds like Hayden doesn't it? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it does. [SPEAKER_00]: They love sticking their foot in shit. [SPEAKER_00]: Most especially their own mouth. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But, they're good friend. [SPEAKER_00]: And that wouldn't a choice I made for him.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said before, honey, I tried to leave Hayden and Stump because I didn't want to give them that heat. [SPEAKER_05]: Who's Stump? [SPEAKER_05]: I keep hearing Stump. [SPEAKER_00]: He was a friend of ours. [SPEAKER_05]: What happened to him? [SPEAKER_00]: He got taken by... You heard of the red-eyed God?

[SPEAKER_05]: I... I... I'm... I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_05]: A God. [SPEAKER_05]: Took your friend. [SPEAKER_00]: I knew in this it's itchy. [SPEAKER_00]: I tried to I tried this show. [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, I was like I did to Wyatt. [SPEAKER_00]: I just like let me just explain this to you. [SPEAKER_00]: You're still in the chat.

[SPEAKER_05]: She slapped your hand away. [SPEAKER_05]: This is I want. [SPEAKER_05]: What are you doing? [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: It's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: It's fine. [SPEAKER_00]: I just I have a way to show you and not tell you. [SPEAKER_00]: But if you want me to tell you I can sit here.

[SPEAKER_00]: God grab another drink. [SPEAKER_05]: I swear to me that you would do anything to protect Hayden. [SPEAKER_05]: Look me in the eye and swear to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I open up my holy symbol, take the note from my mother out, lay it on the table and place my hand on it. [SPEAKER_00]: On my mom's memory, and on the last thing I have from her, I swear to you that there's nothing that I would not do to protect Titan.

[SPEAKER_00]: including, but not limited to, Diane, so that they don't have to, and leaving their life at the proper time, when my existence becomes too dangerous for them, a promise. [SPEAKER_00]: I love Hayden. [SPEAKER_05]: She nods and says, I do too. [SPEAKER_00]: With a vengeance, it seems like.

[SPEAKER_05]: Hayden's one of the only people I have left. [SPEAKER_05]: They used to be a lot more of us. [SPEAKER_05]: And they should have had somebody look out for them. [SPEAKER_05]: And if Hayden doesn't have that now, well, I hope I hope you're good for it. [SPEAKER_00]: The Piper should have had a lot of folks looking out for him.

[SPEAKER_00]: You included when I didn't write for kids to be out there. [SPEAKER_00]: raising themselves. [SPEAKER_00]: But it seems like there's a lot of that going on these days. [SPEAKER_00]: And all I can say is that I will do my damn best to make sure that Hayden is taking care of even when they go and stick their foot in it.

[SPEAKER_05]: When owner size takes the bottle, pours yourself another, downs it, and says, let's, then let's find your book. [SPEAKER_00]: You got any idea why the church would want the pontifix did? [SPEAKER_05]: No. [SPEAKER_05]: Wait, how do you know about that? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's a whole thing with rat.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hayden told us about... Oh god, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: They sort of saw into rats' mind. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a whole thing. [SPEAKER_00]: I really could show you and make this a lot easier, but I don't listen. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what you've got going on in there. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't want any part of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't just say, I don't want- Listen, I don't want to touch your insides. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, like that. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just, it's whispers. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a different, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what?

[SPEAKER_00]: Fun. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't want to see whatever you call it. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, not sure. [SPEAKER_00]: How I feel about you, either. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's do this. [SPEAKER_05]: She smiles. [SPEAKER_00]: Do you can play this game? [SPEAKER_00]: What now? [SPEAKER_05]: She smiles and winks at you.

[SPEAKER_00]: I always have to be friendly. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you killed one guy and all of a sudden everybody needs to know your life story. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, that's why she raises a drink says, that's why I run. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That's all I make. [SPEAKER_00]: Cheers, Sarah. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, Sarah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Looking for the damn book. [SPEAKER_05]: You start looking for the book. [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, didn't want it. [SPEAKER_05]: You're running and you turn and there is no floor. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, you turn a corner in the hallway and it just drops into open air. [SPEAKER_05]: About forty feet away is the other side of the hallway.

[SPEAKER_05]: It keeps going between there is a ravine of just open air. [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_05]: There are books lining the hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: There are books in the ravine. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, hey. [SPEAKER_03]: Checkin' books help me out quite a bit last time. [SPEAKER_03]: Let's check the books again.

[SPEAKER_07]: They all start with the letter C. C. Why it's going to take his staff and just kind of dip it down into the void and hold it along the edge and just walk along hoping to maybe hit something. [SPEAKER_05]: You do so, you keep going until you reach the other side. [SPEAKER_05]: There is nothing hidden here.

[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so I got... Hello, all right. [SPEAKER_03]: This one's a stretch. [SPEAKER_03]: Is there a book titled Catwalk? [SPEAKER_05]: Roll an investigation check. [SPEAKER_07]: Or something. [SPEAKER_07]: Can I also roll? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: It's another Nat twenty. [SPEAKER_07]: I won't even say my twenty six.

[SPEAKER_03]: How have I gotten four net-twenties in this episode? [SPEAKER_03]: Unclear. [SPEAKER_05]: That's crazy. [SPEAKER_03]: And it's not the same die every time. [SPEAKER_05]: The rolls are back. [SPEAKER_05]: It's, it's right there. [SPEAKER_05]: Like, it's right next to you. [SPEAKER_05]: It's the first frickin' book you check.

[SPEAKER_03]: All right, I, I set the book, right by the edge, and I close my eyes and imagine it extending its way across to the side. [SPEAKER_05]: you open your eyes. [SPEAKER_05]: And there is a theater cat block. [SPEAKER_05]: Something that would be hanging above a performance hall in three. [SPEAKER_05]: It is weirdly, almost.

[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know that this is the right word, but glitched into the foundation on this side and the other side. [SPEAKER_05]: as if it has always been there. [SPEAKER_05]: Just formed into the stone and juts all the way across. [SPEAKER_03]: Hayden grabs hold of the catwalk and thinks about the fatesbum players.

[SPEAKER_03]: There's no real vision of them, what they would like or anything, but just, they just imagines the idea of being on a stage with a bunch of other changelings and just steps across. [SPEAKER_05]: Visions, you don't know if they're real or not dance. [SPEAKER_05]: Of changelings who, partly through a scene, transform into another character, they're closed changing as they do.

[SPEAKER_05]: you see one she moves and actually twirls her dress spins and changes color you see one he flips his coat and it changes into a different one you see a man he pulls off a mask and his face resembles the mask that he just removed beautiful images of beautiful people unknown to you [SPEAKER_05]: for now.

[SPEAKER_05]: And as you exit the catwalk, these beautiful images fade. [SPEAKER_05]: Gone. [SPEAKER_05]: But still with you. [SPEAKER_05]: Why you and Barabas are on the other side and Barabas is right. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh shit. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not getting used to this book thing. [SPEAKER_07]: Wish I had thought of that.

[SPEAKER_05]: It looks at you. [SPEAKER_05]: This is, oh you've got it in you. [SPEAKER_07]: Thanks, Dad. [SPEAKER_07]: And why it goes and crosses the catwalk and does a little turn as he goes. [SPEAKER_03]: Baby. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, he does a little turn on the catwalk. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, a little turn on the catwalk.

[SPEAKER_03]: On the catwalk. [SPEAKER_07]: On the catwalk. [SPEAKER_05]: You move along, grab his pauses and then follows what's going on. [SPEAKER_07]: He he he gets to your side and you you hesitated you thought was safe? [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, uh Why let's keep going got a thing about heights? [SPEAKER_03]: No No, I like I said before I'm a good climber Why don't we just you know I watched you disappear underneath that bookcase Yeah, I know So what happened?

[SPEAKER_05]: This is demeanor changes a little bit [SPEAKER_05]: You see that the sort of kindly presence that he had with Wyatt a minute ago starts to shift. [SPEAKER_05]: Barabas looks at you and says, listen, you have your gifts and I have mine. [SPEAKER_07]: Can I incite check all of this? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was gonna incite check that as well.

[SPEAKER_07]: Sure. [SPEAKER_03]: That's a nineteen. [SPEAKER_07]: It's a twenty-seven. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh! [SPEAKER_05]: With a nineteen. [SPEAKER_05]: Hayden, something's weird. [SPEAKER_05]: Barabas is he flipped when you talked about this. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: This is something personal.

[SPEAKER_05]: You, you, you, you had a nerve. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: In a man that is not easily shaken. [SPEAKER_05]: Why it? [SPEAKER_05]: You're standing behind Hayden. [SPEAKER_05]: And as you look at, [SPEAKER_05]: Barabas is eyes dart between you and Hayden. [SPEAKER_05]: The light still gleams on your shield.

[SPEAKER_05]: And as Barabas looks at you, you see his eyes shine. [SPEAKER_05]: When he looks at the light on your shield, like a cat. [SPEAKER_05]: When a cat stands in darkness and you have a light behind you, and their eyes shine in the dark, it looks like that. [SPEAKER_05]: Barabas clocks. [SPEAKER_05]: why it that you are looking at him intensely?

[SPEAKER_05]: And he says, no more questions. [SPEAKER_05]: Let's go. [SPEAKER_05]: He turns and begins striding down the hallway. [SPEAKER_05]: Hayden and Wyatt, do you follow? [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: I pull out my journal and write. [SPEAKER_07]: He's got weird eyes and show Hayden. [SPEAKER_07]: Hayden nods like Matt like that that that sees that Hayden's kind of like kind of that's weird and goes like magic kind of weird.

[SPEAKER_05]: You walk along behind Barabas and find that at the end of this new hallway there is a door. [SPEAKER_05]: And as you open the door you see that you come upon a saloon. [SPEAKER_05]: Across, there is a bar with drinks behind it. [SPEAKER_05]: There is a half empty bottle of spirits. [SPEAKER_05]: with two glasses in front of it, and you see a very familiar blonde woman and redhead woman.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, I was telling him that my family's a little bit more matrilineal, and I don't know who my granddaddy is, because my answer all half-sisters, and he didn't seem really interested in that, but, you know, what are you gonna do? [SPEAKER_05]: Well, that's meant for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what they never really care that much, do they? [SPEAKER_00]: No, well, that's rude. [SPEAKER_00]: Ha ha ha! [SPEAKER_00]: Why it? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't touch the book, honey, it's a mimic, but not like a fun glitter baby kind like it. [SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna eat chicken, but it's a sleep brush now, so you're good.

[SPEAKER_05]: There's fully just this amorphous blob. [SPEAKER_03]: Snoring. [SPEAKER_03]: Hayden has just been standing in the doorway, smiling and tearing up, just watching. [SPEAKER_03]: The two of them have a conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, oh. [SPEAKER_05]: That's sweet. [SPEAKER_05]: When I don't know, it looks over and freezes up.

[SPEAKER_05]: This is Hayden. [SPEAKER_05]: You all right? [SPEAKER_05]: She starts to tear up, but she says, I didn't run. [SPEAKER_03]: I wouldn't have faulted if you had. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what's gotten into me. [SPEAKER_05]: Because, you know what I think it is? [SPEAKER_05]: I think it's you.

[SPEAKER_05]: I think you put some sort of weird idea into me that I can't run anymore. [SPEAKER_05]: And now I can't. [SPEAKER_05]: And I don't know where you got all these ideas of staying and fighting probably from her. [SPEAKER_05]: Yes. [SPEAKER_05]: She points over it, Solomon. [SPEAKER_00]: You know I can't say anything other than I'm glad to see anything else would be alive She runs over and hugs you and she looks over at you Wyatt and she says [SPEAKER_05]: And listen, kid, if we're going to, if we're going to travel side by side, I don't need any of this, any of the good word, the good book, any of that, I don't need that.

[SPEAKER_05]: All right. [SPEAKER_07]: When people say that, it just means they need it more. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Nice order. [SPEAKER_03]: This is a problem. [SPEAKER_03]: It hasn't free zone. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I swear to God. [SPEAKER_03]: I will say, I will say, I am now up to two people from the church.

[SPEAKER_03]: that I actually okay. [SPEAKER_03]: I told you about Father Maldonan and now I got wired here. [SPEAKER_03]: Wait, who? [SPEAKER_03]: Oh shit. [SPEAKER_03]: No, really? [SPEAKER_03]: You know Father Maldonan? [SPEAKER_03]: You know, hang on. [SPEAKER_03]: What? [SPEAKER_03]: You met Father Maldonan?

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he's the reason I joined in the first place. [SPEAKER_03]: He took care of me for a while. [SPEAKER_03]: He took out all the pipers. [SPEAKER_03]: He gave his food for months, and then, well, I'll be paid for it. [SPEAKER_03]: And inquisitor just caught it him off while I watched, disappeared him.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry to be the one to tell you. [SPEAKER_07]: I never knew what happened. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm sorry you had to see that. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, me too. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry, what's that thing in the corner? [SPEAKER_00]: He's called the story of the three, and the mimic was pretending to be that book.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the book seemed to be about three siblings who sort of became the river and the wilds and the flame. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and, and, and, and something's, I don't think it's the river, just because I've been connected with the river. [SPEAKER_00]: So that leaves us the wilds and the flame, but it seems like something else feeding on the flame or the wilds.

[SPEAKER_00]: Why'd you know what to think about that? [SPEAKER_07]: Why it's still in his own head about hearing about Father Maltensen. [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, dear heart, I know there's a lot at one time. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't mean to interrupt. [SPEAKER_07]: No, no, but it's okay, nothing, nothing you can do about that right now.

[SPEAKER_07]: When I went and prayed at the church before we came here, I didn't know if it was real, but there was like a thing on the flame. [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of like a parasite. [SPEAKER_07]: I guess it was it was so quick. [SPEAKER_07]: I couldn't I don't really know what I saw. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, no, don't suppose you seen anything like that with the wilds.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you've seen what I've seen. [SPEAKER_07]: Is there a flammable material in here like wood or anything like books? [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, why this entire room is flammable. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay, well, let's not get crazy. [SPEAKER_07]: As much as I want to. [SPEAKER_05]: Books, tables, rugs, everything, but the, no, including the alcohol in the bottles.

[SPEAKER_05]: Why don't you do that? [SPEAKER_05]: It's all flammable. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't burn the whiskey, dear. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it grabs a bunch of the wood and paper and builds a fire in the middle of this room. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay, a small one. [SPEAKER_07]: A small, a small one. [SPEAKER_07]: How do you keep it contained?

[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, I'm staring directly into it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well we can't do that water, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get some water. [SPEAKER_00]: If not, we can go get the brain juice from Rosie. [SPEAKER_00]: She's set. [SPEAKER_07]: Are you all okay if I try something? [SPEAKER_07]: Of course.

[SPEAKER_07]: Go for it. [SPEAKER_05]: Great. [SPEAKER_05]: You build a little controlled fire. [SPEAKER_07]: And I go sit right next to it and look and try to connect to that flame that's inside me. [SPEAKER_05]: You sit in front of the flame. [SPEAKER_05]: It dances before you lapping at the open air.

[SPEAKER_05]: Roll a religion check. [SPEAKER_05]: Sixteen. [SPEAKER_05]: You stare deeply into the flame. [SPEAKER_05]: And for a long time nothing seems to happen. [SPEAKER_05]: And then that feeling rose over you again. [SPEAKER_05]: the feeling of first burning and then order. [SPEAKER_05]: As if you were becoming in touch with cosmic law.

[SPEAKER_05]: As if there is an order to all things and that just because things end does not mean the ending is cruel. [SPEAKER_05]: That all things naturally [SPEAKER_05]: die and further that you are the instrument of this order, the flame serves the calling of life. [SPEAKER_05]: but only when it is time and not out of hatred or out of spite or wickedness or cruelty.

[SPEAKER_05]: It does so so that something else can take that place. [SPEAKER_05]: But then as these feelings wash over you, you feel something else. [SPEAKER_05]: As if, in this moment, you and the flame, there is a third, watching you. [SPEAKER_05]: I looked directly at it, you look at it, and you stare into its blood red eye.

[SPEAKER_05]: And it says, in a voice deeper than the earth, alone, white. [SPEAKER_05]: And as you are flung from this place, you feel the flame weakened. [SPEAKER_05]: And then bam, you are back watching this small campfire dance before you. [SPEAKER_00]: Is that this is the first time? [SPEAKER_00]: No.

[SPEAKER_00]: How hard you swear you could? [SPEAKER_06]: No, language. [SPEAKER_06]: What's going on? [SPEAKER_07]: No. [SPEAKER_07]: There's a thing on the fire. [SPEAKER_07]: On this fire? [SPEAKER_07]: No, there's a thing. [SPEAKER_07]: No, no. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm like the fire capital T. The flame.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a thing on the fly. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a thing on the fly. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, there's a thing on the fire and it's it's getting smaller and I [SPEAKER_06]: I need to fix it. [SPEAKER_06]: I need to fix it or it'll go away. [SPEAKER_06]: I can't go with the flame cam. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't go right breathe.

[SPEAKER_00]: I grab Wyatt very gently by the shoulders and I do what Maggie has done to me a thousand times and I breathe in really deeply. [SPEAKER_00]: Breathe in. [SPEAKER_00]: Hold it. [SPEAKER_00]: Breathe out. [SPEAKER_00]: Keep doing that again. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Your heart, you are helping.

[SPEAKER_00]: You are useful. [SPEAKER_00]: You are making a real big difference in all of this. [SPEAKER_00]: But fixing the flame is not your sole responsibility. [SPEAKER_00]: You understand? [SPEAKER_00]: You've fifteen years old. [SPEAKER_00]: You do not need to be carrying the weight of fixing your God.

[SPEAKER_00]: We will help you. [SPEAKER_00]: If there is something on the flame, we will help. [SPEAKER_00]: I promise. [SPEAKER_00]: We will figure it out. [SPEAKER_00]: And we will help. [SPEAKER_00]: Can you tell us what it looked like? [SPEAKER_07]: It had just one red eye. [SPEAKER_07]: That was really it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Did the eye look anything like what you saw of the amulet from Stump's chest? [SPEAKER_07]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'll be damned y'all. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we might know what we're dealing with. [SPEAKER_00]: Look on the brats, son. [SPEAKER_00]: That's why it, I think we're all, we're all in the same fight.

[SPEAKER_07]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Is that your brats, I too? [SPEAKER_07]: It isn't deep. [SPEAKER_07]: I don't know it can be so bright when the flame is dimming. [SPEAKER_07]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: Why it honey? [SPEAKER_03]: That's good information to have. [SPEAKER_03]: Let's deal with the matter at hand, which is the big nasty.

[SPEAKER_00]: The big nasty and the the book. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to find the rest of that book. [SPEAKER_05]: Travis chimes in and says, listen, all this spiritual stuff is above my pay grade. [SPEAKER_05]: All I know is, person I was hired to protect is somewhere in here. [SPEAKER_05]: This book, ate my problem.

[SPEAKER_00]: Was a little bit your problem because the person you were hired to protect was paint pictures of somebody, involved with this. [SPEAKER_05]: He shrugs and says, that doesn't matter. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, if you wanna find him, go find this book we need. [SPEAKER_07]: No. [SPEAKER_07]: You're good at finding stuff?

[SPEAKER_04]: No, I don't think I will. [SPEAKER_04]: This book, don't matter to me. [SPEAKER_04]: It's a distraction. [SPEAKER_03]: Fine. [SPEAKER_03]: Sit tight, we'll find it. [SPEAKER_03]: Or you can go off by yourself. [SPEAKER_05]: He turns. [SPEAKER_03]: What do you think is gonna make you more likely to live through this?

[SPEAKER_05]: He turns and says, you don't know me. [SPEAKER_04]: So I wouldn't act like you do. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not your sound, just like your sister. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not acting like I know you. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm acting like the smartest thing to do is for all of us to stick together so that we're not fighting one on big-eyed.

[SPEAKER_04]: I agree. [SPEAKER_04]: But if you're too busy looking for a book, then maybe I don't need your help. [SPEAKER_00]: Y'all, okay, hold on. [SPEAKER_00]: Look, is it worth just splitting off now looking for Theo and then coming back for the book? [SPEAKER_05]: Once Theo's with me, you can follow whatever you want to.

[SPEAKER_03]: Solomon, what did the book look like? [SPEAKER_03]: When the mimic was the book? [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying, like, a color? [SPEAKER_00]: Just narrow it down. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, they're a little fella. [SPEAKER_00]: Why don't you wake up and beat the book again? [SPEAKER_05]: It stirs and then sleepily begins to hiss.

[SPEAKER_03]: I pull out glitter, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: He was a black book with kind of a golden boss and I don't know, it looked real important. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it starts looking for it. [SPEAKER_05]: Rabbis rolls his eyes and says, fine. [SPEAKER_05]: I know the Calibur if I'm working with. [SPEAKER_05]: He turns and begins striding for the door.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, hell, what? [SPEAKER_00]: Rabbis, you want company? [SPEAKER_05]: He clicks the door open and walks out. [SPEAKER_00]: Y'all, I don't think we can let him do this by himself. [SPEAKER_07]: He's made his decision. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know why it, but why would we just let someone go out there and die when we could just come back here and look for the book?

[SPEAKER_03]: I think if we kill facts, this whole place isn't going to exist anymore. [SPEAKER_03]: That's what I think too. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, compromise. [SPEAKER_00]: We spend five minutes looking for this book. [SPEAKER_00]: If we don't find it, we follow where Barabas is going. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to get any of us killed today if we can help it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Looks for me. [SPEAKER_03]: Sure. [SPEAKER_03]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: Any black books with gold lettering? [SPEAKER_05]: You look through this room. [SPEAKER_05]: This is the room with all the books that start with P. It is not in this room. [SPEAKER_03]: Casey does the mimic respond to glitter baby.

[SPEAKER_05]: The mimic wakes up and it is fully like feral begins hissing you produce glitter baby. [SPEAKER_05]: literally baby transforms into a miniscule version of this feral creature. [SPEAKER_05]: It is the size between a cat and a mouse. [SPEAKER_05]: And it pauses as it sees glitter baby. [SPEAKER_05]: And it's eyes narrow.

[SPEAKER_05]: Glitter baby starts to, and the thing, the other mimic hiss is back. [SPEAKER_05]: As if they are communicating some horrible, horrible language between them. [SPEAKER_03]: If I cast speak with animals, could I speak with it? [SPEAKER_03]: I think you could. [SPEAKER_03]: I will do that then.

[SPEAKER_05]: You hear them both talking. [SPEAKER_02]: Glitter baby says, big one, big one. [SPEAKER_05]: And the mimic on the table says, later one, later one. [SPEAKER_02]: And they're just saying, big one, later one, big one, later one, big one, later one, [SPEAKER_03]: A big one. [SPEAKER_03]: Great to see ya.

[SPEAKER_03]: You look great. [SPEAKER_05]: It turns its eyes to you. [SPEAKER_05]: Shocked that it can understand ya. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just hissing and spitting. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: It's awful. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: It's totally like a guest. [SPEAKER_03]: Look, I can give ya all kinds of delicious meat or things to chew on.

[SPEAKER_03]: If you're willing to turn into that book again, for just a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: What you give? [SPEAKER_03]: What I give? [SPEAKER_02]: What you give? [SPEAKER_03]: What's this stupid friend of mine? [SPEAKER_02]: What a friend of mine! [SPEAKER_05]: It hisses. [SPEAKER_05]: It hisses.

[SPEAKER_05]: And it's back arches. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, okay. [SPEAKER_03]: How about some nice jerky? [SPEAKER_03]: Be jerky? [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe? [SPEAKER_03]: What do you think? [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, it's ice-glean. [SPEAKER_03]: Ooh, there we go. [SPEAKER_03]: All right, just turn into a book for a minute.

[SPEAKER_03]: I rip the jerky in half, toss half of it to the mimic. [SPEAKER_05]: You get the rest after we roll. [SPEAKER_05]: It's horrible. [SPEAKER_05]: It is just a flying ball of teeth and eyes as it scarves it down. [SPEAKER_05]: And then it turns you. [SPEAKER_05]: You gotta be the book. [SPEAKER_05]: and it transforms back into the book.

[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how long this is going to work. [SPEAKER_05]: There is not much left to this story. [SPEAKER_05]: You find as you flip the page. [SPEAKER_05]: It continues and so one night. [SPEAKER_05]: He stole into the camp of the three and began to feed upon the eldest, taking some of his power for himself, to safeguard and to hide.

[SPEAKER_05]: And as the three arose the next day, the eldest was weakened, and at his post overlooked where he would not. [SPEAKER_05]: To this day, the interloper steals into the camp and continues to feed. [SPEAKER_05]: And each day, the eldest grows weaker. [SPEAKER_05]: The book ends with another of that symbol.

[SPEAKER_05]: The broken circle with the two lines capping each end and the third line splitting. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we jot, I think we jot down the symbol. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we ought to go follow Barabas as quickly as we can so that he doesn't get himself killed. [SPEAKER_05]: The pages flip closed.

[SPEAKER_05]: The book turns to you. [SPEAKER_05]: Little eyes pop up from its cover. [SPEAKER_05]: And it looks that you expectantly Hayden. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, of course. [SPEAKER_03]: I tossed the other half of the jerky. [SPEAKER_05]: It snatches it. [SPEAKER_05]: And then begins flipping away. [SPEAKER_05]: Hopping away down the hallway and disappears.

[SPEAKER_00]: As that's happening, Solomon is gonna look over at Wyatt and say, do heart, I know that this is a whole hell of a lot to take in at one time, but our promise, we will help you. [SPEAKER_00]: And that flame I ain't gonna go out as long as you're here. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, that fire lives in your belly, kid.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're not gonna let it go out. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: As he just kind of stares, determinedly, off into space. [SPEAKER_00]: And we go after Brabless. [SPEAKER_05]: And you go after Brabless. [SPEAKER_05]: You turn down the hallway that Brabless walked into, and it's more bookshelves.

[SPEAKER_05]: The maze continues forward, and you plunge once more into the labyrinth. [SPEAKER_05]: And as you do really quickly, [SPEAKER_05]: How did each of you feel? [SPEAKER_05]: Let's start with Hayden. [SPEAKER_03]: Hayden thinks that Barabas is being ridiculous, but sees in him this needless lone wolf posturing that is unfortunately familiar and looks around to the [SPEAKER_03]: Family that they've built and knows that they're stronger for it.

[SPEAKER_03]: And despite this vision of the Red I'd God, the White had, I think Hayden feels a confidence that they haven't felt in a long time. [SPEAKER_03]: Not the mindless cockiness that they had before as a stranger, but a surety that comes from having people by your side. [SPEAKER_05]: As you walk Hayden, when I want to take your hand, Solomon.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think Salami feels really torn in a couple different directions right now. [SPEAKER_00]: And the directions are toward each of the people that she is worried about in turn. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that the river and the spirituality that she was raised with is very much about the ties that bind.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's very much about the connections between living beings, about the transitions between life and death and back to life, about the things that tie us all together. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think at the end of the day, as much as Solomon wants to find information and wanted to find information, she would have rather walked out that door with Barabas, because more important to her than anything else is making sure that all of the people surrounding her are okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that she worries for Barabas having gone out by himself, that she sees a kindness in him and a potential in him. [SPEAKER_00]: I think she worries for Wyatt and how much this is causing him pain and wanting to help alleviate it and not knowing how to help this kid feel better. [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, I think she worries about light-hander because as much as the Jameson's kind of war what they were, when Solomon wrote a letter to Tiberius and started it as brother that was sincere.

[SPEAKER_00]: With I think the way that Solomon views family and people, people don't stop being family for her. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that light-hander [SPEAKER_00]: was, and as far as she is concerned, is her brother. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think she feels she owes it to him to help. [SPEAKER_07]: Why it?

[SPEAKER_07]: Seeing the flame weakened has deeply changed why it, because it means that [SPEAKER_07]: All of the actions he's taken thus far in his life have not helped strengthen it. [SPEAKER_07]: It doesn't shake his belief in the flame because he's just stared into it. [SPEAKER_07]: But it's given him a singular goal to accomplish, as opposed to just help people, because if the flame goes out, [SPEAKER_07]: than no one can be helped.

[SPEAKER_07]: He doesn't really see the people around him in this moment. [SPEAKER_07]: He's just walking along in kind of anime fashion. [SPEAKER_07]: If you looked at his eyes, you would just see the image of the flame with the parasite on it. [SPEAKER_05]: And each of you take these feelings with you.

[SPEAKER_05]: confidence, worry, and determination. [SPEAKER_05]: You stride forth, not knowing what the next room will hold, but knowing that one of these rooms will hold that which you seek. [SPEAKER_05]: And that is where we'll pick up next time. [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks so much for listening to another episode of Mage Hand High Five.
