[SPEAKER_05]: Hello and welcome to the Dice Cabinet, a safe space for your spiciest tabletop takes. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm your secretary of spice, Max Weinberg, my pronouns are he him and I could not be more excited to introduce our guests today. [SPEAKER_05]: Hailing from across the border, he's the GM from the multi award winning star finder actual play podcast, no quest for the wicked.

[SPEAKER_05]: It's the secretary of space, Dane Miller! [SPEAKER_04]: That's a good title. [SPEAKER_04]: I think I'm going to take that. [SPEAKER_04]: Go for it. [SPEAKER_04]: It's all yours. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm I'm hype to be here. [SPEAKER_04]: Like I said, when we were talking just before air, I like rolling dice and I like talking about rolling dice.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, well, I'm ready. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm ready to go. [SPEAKER_05]: next up superstar on and off the mic she's a producer for overly sarcastic podcast and movie struck and a player producer for rolling with difficulty it's the secretary of production Sophia richyardee very well thank you very much [SPEAKER_01]: I'm loving the Secretary theme, where assembling the world's most perfect cabinet right now, which is appropriate.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: We're in the dice cap. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man, we're playing the pieces. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so the puzzle is solved. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to take me in minutes like you would not believe. [SPEAKER_05]: And our final guest can be found playing TTRPGs anywhere and everywhere on the internet and is a published author, one of the brains behind unprepared castors and critical lit.

[SPEAKER_05]: The Secretary of storytelling, it's Amelia Somme. [SPEAKER_05]: I wouldn't do it every single time I say one of theirs. [SPEAKER_05]: How's everyone doing today? [SPEAKER_05]: It's kind of hot. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I record in a walking closet, so it's, I'm in, like, essentially, a small little oven, so I'm, I'm gonna get real sweaty in here with y'all.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it actually we just had a huge storm both through yesterday, which has brought it down to the high 70s from being 80 and 90s for the past week. [SPEAKER_03]: Nice. [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm actually like, this is as cool as it's been in weeks. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm having a great time. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm also pretty sweaty.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's been hot and filly. [SPEAKER_01]: So I think we're all we're all sweating together today is the real take away. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm trying to do math as to like what my temperature is in Fahrenheit because a Canadian I use so is your what it. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I know it. [SPEAKER_02]: Tell it to me.

[SPEAKER_04]: We're 40 degrees right now, Chelsea. [SPEAKER_02]: 40 degrees, Chelsea is like a hundred and three. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, baby, Canada, Canada is not cold anymore. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to warn because it's done the show, my God. [SPEAKER_04]: Gross. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's pretty much been our summer.

[SPEAKER_04]: At one point in time, we were up to, we almost hit 50. [SPEAKER_05]: Which was like, Saudi Arabia, like, like, it's a nightmare up here. [SPEAKER_05]: It's bad everywhere. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, everyone ready for how this is gonna work? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Yep. [SPEAKER_05]: So how it's gonna work is one of y'all will give your hot take.

[SPEAKER_05]: Then in the ensuing free for all of our secretaries we'll go back and forth digging into the take trying to determine how spicy they think it is. [SPEAKER_05]: After that, we'll all rate how spicy we think it is on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being like milk and 10 being a Carolina Reaper.

[SPEAKER_05]: Then at the end of the show, we'll announce the spiciest take and take a moment to reflect on what we may or may not have learned throughout the show. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just looking up Scoville units that way when I have my 1 to 10 score, I can choose an appropriate pepper to represent that.

[SPEAKER_02]: But other than that, I'm ready to go. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, just ignore me. [SPEAKER_05]: Perfect. [SPEAKER_05]: Who would like to go first? [SPEAKER_04]: I will go first because I think mine is probably going to be the dumbest. [SPEAKER_04]: Okay, and that is the D4 is the worst dice, and it shouldn't exist.

[SPEAKER_02]: Great experience please. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm I'm bought it. [SPEAKER_02]: What's happening? [SPEAKER_04]: It sucks in every regard. [SPEAKER_04]: There's there's nothing good about the D4 and I'll tell you why if you have a dear D4 near you Give it just give it a quick single person on this call.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's just simultaneously reached directly next to them You know my desk dies yeah These are some planning on playing but it's good to have some desk dies [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not gonna lie, I don't have a D4. [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, that's the way the world should be. [SPEAKER_05]: I have a D100.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm noticing I'm rolling this D4 it has, it has a very sturdy plop. [SPEAKER_02]: Does it have much roll, has like a lot of sense in a settle. [SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_04]: It does a roll, it, it, it, it, it, it's not satisfying to roll, which is the whole point of it, like that's what you do with it, and it sucks to do that.

[SPEAKER_04]: Second, no one's excited for a four, and that's the maximum number you grow on this fat boy. [SPEAKER_04]: That number sucks as well. [SPEAKER_04]: Just like across the board and look, if you drop any dice on the floor, this little guy, let's do us some damage. [SPEAKER_04]: It's pointy.

[SPEAKER_04]: If you get like a sharp resin one like I prefer the like the really sharp boys and like it's a it's a weapon. [SPEAKER_04]: It's a cow's prop. [SPEAKER_02]: How do you feel about the crystal shaped D4s? [SPEAKER_02]: Do you know what I'm talking about? [SPEAKER_04]: I'm, you know what? [SPEAKER_04]: I can get more on board with that, but I will say the D8 is also in the running for worst I said also.

[SPEAKER_04]: Whoa. [SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: That's. [SPEAKER_02]: That's even hotter take to me the D.A. [SPEAKER_02]: It's one of my favorites. [SPEAKER_02]: Can I be honest, D.A.4 I kind of agree with you. [SPEAKER_02]: As far as I go, it's got not a lot of rollability. [SPEAKER_02]: I think the point about not being excited about a four is just kind of how numbers work.

[SPEAKER_02]: Big numbers are better. [SPEAKER_02]: By this logic, a D.1 thousand is like a fucking Christmas. [SPEAKER_05]: Talk, could you imagine? [SPEAKER_05]: The bolder just rolling it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just a hardcore don't really feel like the penny of the of the dice set, you know, it's kind of like you wonder why it hasn't gotten phased out yet at a certain point.

[SPEAKER_04]: No, she, well, again, not to be Canadian, but we've phased out our pennies, we don't have pennies up here. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, well, we have a zinc lobby. [SPEAKER_04]: But I will argue with you, it's, it's not the penny, it's the nickel. [SPEAKER_04]: The nickel is the worst. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: Right. [SPEAKER_04]: The penny. [SPEAKER_04]: The penny is iconic. [SPEAKER_04]: Right. [SPEAKER_04]: Leave a penny. [SPEAKER_04]: Take a penny. [SPEAKER_04]: Nobody cares about the nickel. [SPEAKER_04]: There's never been a nickel anything. [SPEAKER_04]: Well, you got like a, a, a, a goose snickle up there.

[SPEAKER_04]: Our, what, oh, what's on our actual nickel? [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Are you ready for this? [SPEAKER_04]: It's a fucking beaver. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I would use so many nickels. [SPEAKER_04]: If there was a beaver on our nickel, our, almost all of our, our coinage has a animal of some sort on it.

[SPEAKER_04]: Got that's so much better. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: It's a moose on the quarter. [SPEAKER_02]: It's definitely more slave owners. [SPEAKER_04]: Well, I mean, look, our, all of ours are British monarchy. [SPEAKER_04]: So that's also not great. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, I, I feel like the head set of coin all these is going to suck.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, tails is better than hands, which isn't the argument we're making. [SPEAKER_05]: Anybody knows, sure. [SPEAKER_05]: So, okay, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: So we, I think all agree that D4s are kind of a pain, but the fact that you said, D8s? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what the fuck is up with that?

[SPEAKER_05]: That's wild. [SPEAKER_04]: So here's my gripe with a, with a D8. [SPEAKER_04]: It's just two D4s. [SPEAKER_01]: I fear that's just geometry, you know? [SPEAKER_01]: Like I fear that we've just, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, if you ever study design formally, you learn about line about color, about rhythm and just salt figure versus ground, the concept that the whole is worth more than the sum of its parts.

[SPEAKER_02]: And, well, I agree with your complaints about the D4. [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like the D8 iterates and improves upon them. [SPEAKER_02]: It has great rollability, it has a beautiful shape. [SPEAKER_02]: It is one, it is out of the six dice. [SPEAKER_02]: I think only five of them, it is in fact a platonic solid.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what that means, what's that mean? [SPEAKER_02]: I believe it means that it is symmetrical across different axes. [SPEAKER_02]: You notice how the D10 is not because it has these weird, well, I mean, it's like symmetrical or on certain axes, but like the shape of the polygon on the D10 has extra, what is it word vertices compared to like, yeah, compared to like a D12 D20 or a D6 or a D4, it's not a regular shape.

[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: Everything that D4 does wrong, the D8, redeems. [SPEAKER_04]: I look, I'm not saying- I love rolling an A. I'm just saying the next dice I would get rid of, would be the D8. [SPEAKER_02]: God. [SPEAKER_02]: Really? [SPEAKER_02]: I'm scrapping the D10 after the D4.

[SPEAKER_04]: You know what, I could get a board with that. [SPEAKER_02]: If I had to, and because we can't get rid of all the dice, if I only had to have three dice, I would have a D6, I would have a D8 in a D20, and that's all I need. [SPEAKER_04]: I was crap at D12. [SPEAKER_04]: See, I think the D12 is the unsung hero.

[SPEAKER_05]: I think a D12, it's like a little D20, but it's a schmuck, because anytime you're like, I want to go roll my D20, you're like, man, I cannot roll higher than a 12, and you're like, oh, wait, I'm rolling a D12, not a 20. [SPEAKER_02]: When I started, like years ago, when I first started playing D&D in college, I did that so many times.

[SPEAKER_02]: I rolled my D12 instead of my D20. [SPEAKER_02]: It's deceptive. [SPEAKER_02]: It's tricky. [SPEAKER_01]: I do think if we're gonna get rid of one, we should definitely stick with the D10, just because the percentile dice can do the job of the D10, you know, you only need one of the two, and you might as well keep the one that's got two digits on it at that point.

[SPEAKER_01]: Can you could still just roll it twice? [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just wrapping both of them. [SPEAKER_01]: I do love, I love me up a percentile table. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't take that out of the way for anyone. [SPEAKER_02]: That is fair. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I also wanted to say that I don't know you very well.

[SPEAKER_02]: And so I don't want to insult you. [SPEAKER_03]: No, please, I don't want to be insulted. [SPEAKER_02]: I think people who love the D12s, it feels very performative. [SPEAKER_04]: You think I'd dig signaling right there? [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think I'd dig signaling right there. [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I think I'd dig signaling.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's like making the day 12 is like, like, like, much a three years ago. [SPEAKER_04]: For me, it's because I never get to use it, right? [SPEAKER_04]: Like it just sits there hanging out and I kind of feel bad for it. [SPEAKER_04]: It's like when you go, like every time I've adopted a pet, it's always the one that like no one is falling over, right?

[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's the one that's maybe a little, little older that people don't want to buy, like the, or adopt like the five year old cat. [SPEAKER_04]: Um, [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, it's, it's just one of those things where I'm just like, I wish I got to use it more. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's reasonable.

[SPEAKER_04]: And I feel like we could just get rid of the D4 and just use the D12. [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know how it would work statistically. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's the D3. [SPEAKER_02]: Divide by three. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Round down. [SPEAKER_02]: Round down. [SPEAKER_05]: So how do we want to, which of these do we want to rate the D4, which I think we all agreed on or Dane's D8 take?

[SPEAKER_05]: I think we should do the D8 take. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Dana's not all right with you. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's not hot or take. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, what do we want to rate the D8 sucks? [SPEAKER_02]: I'm giving that a 10 Carolina Reaper. [SPEAKER_02]: That's a crazy sentence to say.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's objectively at least in the upper half of dies. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's crazy that you're cutting it that soon. [SPEAKER_05]: So for you. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm also giving this a 10 because the date has very wide surfaces that allow for cool designs and printing of numbers in a way that some of the other dice don't and I feel like we can't sleep on the artistry of how cool some of those numbers can look and you can really appreciate them on a date.

[SPEAKER_01]: You can't cut that from the lineup. [SPEAKER_01]: That's a starter. [SPEAKER_01]: That's a designated hitter, you know. [SPEAKER_05]: I think I have to give it a nine because I did go, wow, when you said it, you know, like it did, it didn't quite cause me to like pull my hair out, but it, I did react to it, which does add up to 29 divided by three, which is like nine point six, yeah, love in the six six business, what's going on next?

[SPEAKER_02]: I've made my taste spicier since we talked about it in pre-recording. [SPEAKER_02]: The bar is the least sexiest class and you're right and you should say it. [SPEAKER_02]: Why? [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, this is also a hot take. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's just, have you ever met? [SPEAKER_02]: I really feel like I'm going to alienate a lot of people here and I'm so sorry for that.

[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I know exactly where you're going and I agree. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just like, have you met a band kid? [SPEAKER_02]: And it's just also like stand comedian. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just like, I feel like the musicians that I know, at the comics that I know, either they're like, that you're a normal person with a job, or you're kind of insufferable.

[SPEAKER_02]: The ones I'm friends with, I just, it's like, oh, you're a normal person and your job is just doing this. [SPEAKER_02]: And I just can't imagine that the offset and reputation, if they could magically power things from their songs, would be attractive to me at all. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, have you ever seen a guy whip out an acoustic guitar at a party and think, yeah?

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is doing a lot for me. [SPEAKER_02]: And I know that people do, allegedly, in the same way that I know that someone is making ordinary by Alex Warren. [SPEAKER_02]: Stay at the number one billboard charts. [SPEAKER_02]: But like, I've just never interacted with them directly knowingly.

[SPEAKER_02]: And also, a lot of the other classes are just sexier. [SPEAKER_04]: And also think about if your average stand-up comedian or a dude in a cover band had access to sending, right? [SPEAKER_04]: Like imagine if that was, like instead of just seeing it on an Instagram story or being blasted with Facebook event in flight.

[SPEAKER_04]: So you're head, just getting it absolutely mainline right into your brain. [SPEAKER_04]: That, [SPEAKER_04]: name there. [SPEAKER_02]: And I've pulled up a list of the classes. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go one by one and tell you how they're sexier than bars. [SPEAKER_05]: Give us your your sexiness ranking of each D and D class.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, please. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I can like number ring them. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think we have the time for that. [SPEAKER_02]: But here's a thing of barbarian. [SPEAKER_02]: rage when used to protect others, incredibly sexy. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_02]: Redibly sexy. [SPEAKER_02]: Being able to shrug off getting stabbed or an arrow through your arm, that is pot as hell. [SPEAKER_02]: and the next one is Barbie. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't you talk about them? [SPEAKER_02]: Clerics? [SPEAKER_02]: In a world where gods are definitively real, choosing to take such a specific side and choosing to put your faith in something that you know could kill you, that you know immediately makes enemies of other people and devoting your life to the cause of something else in a world where you could pursue magic on your own and achieve for [SPEAKER_02]: very sexy.

[SPEAKER_02]: Druid! [SPEAKER_02]: That's just hot. [SPEAKER_02]: Now we don't, there's like a lot of things going on there. [SPEAKER_05]: You can change into whatever you want. [SPEAKER_02]: You can change whoever you want. [SPEAKER_02]: Fighter, I find competence to be really, really hot. [SPEAKER_02]: I think someone who like not to not to even double on Tondra, someone who literally knows their way around a sword, is like pretty is pretty convincing.

[SPEAKER_02]: And at least you know they are intelligent. [SPEAKER_02]: They went to school. [SPEAKER_02]: They have something that they believe in. [SPEAKER_02]: monks, I also feel like I don't have to explain why that's sexy. [SPEAKER_02]: I think being so in tune with your body that you can be on par with magic users because of how well you control your physical form.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's sexy. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you ever seen someone do a kip-up? [SPEAKER_01]: Like, come on. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's nothing sexier than a pallidon and I'll die on that hill. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know, the devotion, oh, making an oath, sexy, breaking an oath. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.

[SPEAKER_02]: Rangers? [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: I like to shut talk, Rangers. [SPEAKER_02]: And the thing Rangers have going for them is that the closest I'll come to respecting any institution this government is fishing wildlife. [SPEAKER_02]: I think Rangers in real life are very sexy because they know a lot about trees.

[SPEAKER_02]: They can save lives and they maintain the forest and they protect people. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think they provide, I think providing for those around you is very sexy. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, rogues, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come

[SPEAKER_02]: We're luck. [SPEAKER_02]: I wish I could be a warlock. [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing sexier than making deals with powers you can't control and paying the price. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: I actually have an altar to take for warlocks that they're just in debt for the rest of their life.

[SPEAKER_02]: God forbid someone be a sugar baby. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm in debt too. [SPEAKER_02]: And you know what? [SPEAKER_02]: I've got a lot of trips and photos to show from it. [SPEAKER_02]: It's fine. [SPEAKER_02]: Warlocks are in debt. [SPEAKER_02]: Who would okay? [SPEAKER_02]: I don't have student loans, anyone?

[SPEAKER_02]: That's fine. [SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot, there's a sexier ways to get in debt. [SPEAKER_02]: There's less sexy ways to get in debt. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, [SPEAKER_02]: just seeing a world in which there are so many things that exist that naturally have magic and choosing to uncover the secrets of the universe to secure that for yourself and trying to compare yourself to spirits, gods, demigods, what have you?

[SPEAKER_02]: Very sexy. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's not sexy. [SPEAKER_02]: A fucking liar. [SPEAKER_02]: It's fine. [SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, here's Wonderwall. [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, here's Wonderwall. [SPEAKER_05]: So could I embarrass myself for a second? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: So with...

[SPEAKER_05]: person I dated, I didn't know that it was like a double date with my friend and his partner at the time. [SPEAKER_05]: And I was 16 and it was New Year's Eve. [SPEAKER_05]: And I was just thought I was hanging out with, you know, my friends. [SPEAKER_05]: And this one person who I'd never hung out with before.

[SPEAKER_05]: And for some reason, I thought it was a great idea as a singer to sing, stay in a live by the Beegees. [SPEAKER_05]: Just like Acapella or was it karaoke? [SPEAKER_05]: We're waiting for the ball to drop and I'm just like, let me just bust out. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm sure there was a reason, but I was like, let me just bust out, stay in a live by the BG 16 year old max.

[SPEAKER_05]: And apparently, that one herover, so there is a lot to go. [SPEAKER_05]: We dated for like a year to have. [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, can I tell you something? [SPEAKER_02]: If you singing staying alive by the BG's one herover, you had already been one. [SPEAKER_02]: First of all, it's been one.

[SPEAKER_02]: I, because what you're expecting me to believe is that this girl was standing next to you at New Year's Eve, you know, the holiday where you stand next to people you want to kiss. [SPEAKER_02]: And then was like, I don't know about my decision. [SPEAKER_04]: I was just down there. [SPEAKER_02]: Really on the fence about this with us.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then, here's you start seeing staying alive. [SPEAKER_02]: And then, oh my god, you're a small fuck. [SPEAKER_02]: I just, I think maybe you're a logic here. [SPEAKER_02]: Isn't doing what you wanted to do. [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm glad it worked out for you in the end. [SPEAKER_04]: You know what really sucks about this whole thing is technically if we're going by what we're doing now.

[SPEAKER_04]: And what I assume y'all are passionate about as I am. [SPEAKER_04]: I think we're all barred, guys. [SPEAKER_04]: Like I really do think. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, here's the thing. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm multi-classed. [SPEAKER_02]: I think the fact that I have a stable nine to five is the sexiest thing about me.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think it sets me apart from the fact I love being a corporate girl boss. [SPEAKER_02]: Are you joking? [SPEAKER_04]: What do you think that is that wizard? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a barred wizard multi-class for sure. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I also have a nine to five, but I'm very much a barred in mine.

[SPEAKER_05]: I'm a supervisor, but I'm also a personality higher. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, yeah, man, I'm a bartender. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, I don't, like, I've got nothing going from you guys. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm barred through and through like this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, freelancer, so I'm locked in. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even, I dream of taking a multi-class in Warlock.

[SPEAKER_01]: If anyone wants to patron me, I'm here for, [SPEAKER_04]: I feel like freelancing is kind of a warlock thing. [SPEAKER_04]: You're making a pact with a power for a brief period of time. [SPEAKER_01]: You're making just several packs at different times. [SPEAKER_01]: Kind of like contracting in a way.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to think that my warlock pact would be on something more interesting than a W9, but still it's cool. [SPEAKER_05]: I feel like you're probably part, part, uh, artificeer, because, uh, all of the editing that you do. [SPEAKER_01]: Do love artificeers. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I didn't mention artificeers because if Wizards isn't going to care about them, I'm not even... Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, [SPEAKER_05]: there are so because I don't know you there are so many things I'm like ah yeah I almost went to engineer you know what my master's in engineering I'm like I can't say that to a stranger who just said engineer I'm not going to find you dragon no matter what well now right on do you hear the BGs though

[SPEAKER_02]: The only man that I ever kissed is back when I was in college. [SPEAKER_02]: I was figuring out myself out. [SPEAKER_02]: I did it. [SPEAKER_02]: The only man that I ever kissed, he told me he was a professional outdoorsman, and that's how we started the conversation, so that was also my argument from Ranger.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, tell me should I don't know about trees. [SPEAKER_02]: That's great. [SPEAKER_05]: So we've kind of strayed from barred is the least sexy class, but I think I've been convinced. [SPEAKER_05]: based on that ranking. [SPEAKER_05]: Is anybody, do we want to just go ahead and and rate it now?

[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Sure. [SPEAKER_05]: Sophia. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that this will be a hot take until people hear you're ranking. [SPEAKER_01]: And then it will no longer be a hot take. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to give this like a four out of ten. [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a you're right.

[SPEAKER_01]: And you should say it, you know, there's And I'll wear that with pride. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I think this is one of the ones where the discussion, like it comes in as a hot take and then you just convinced everyone it wasn't a hot take because you're correct. [SPEAKER_02]: I also am pretty good at arguing things.

[SPEAKER_04]: Dang, what do you got? [SPEAKER_04]: I think this is a five. [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's middle. [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's like right in the middle because I think [SPEAKER_04]: I think I don't think it really needs much convincing. [SPEAKER_04]: Like I really do think it's like you either agree or there are people who are going to like really die on the hill of four bars.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's it's just like it's it's middle of the road. [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's right there hovering in between you know it's it's it's a hot take but I think I think it could go either way very quickly for anyone. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to start with this. [SPEAKER_05]: I think you're correct.

[SPEAKER_05]: You have convinced me that there is no leeway there anymore. [SPEAKER_05]: You are correct. [SPEAKER_05]: So I think I will put this also with Danes reasoning out of five that people are going to go what people are going to say it's a ten or people are going to say it's a one. [SPEAKER_05]: So I think that averages out to a being a five which puts the average here at 4.66 but a correct 4.66.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I know I'm happy with that. [SPEAKER_02]: I think of 4.66. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's like a bird's eye chili. [SPEAKER_02]: No, that's actually probably a cayenne. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, Sophia, why don't you round it out here? [SPEAKER_01]: Legendary resistances are dumb and we should get rid of them.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they should exist. [SPEAKER_01]: I know that ostensibly they are solving for a mechanical balance issue when your party gets to be higher level. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm coming out from a D&D perspective, but in any game where you have the ability to basically completely nullify and attack on your big bad evil guy.

[SPEAKER_01]: The party is going to scale a lot better than an individual dragon, you know, whatever it is is going to. [SPEAKER_01]: But a lot of the problems that actually ends up solving for the player who says, I polymorph the bad guy into a sheep and then just ends the combat immediately in a non narratively satisfying way.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think that that's a mechanical thing that we should have a defense for. [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a table conversation that needs to be happening. [SPEAKER_01]: That's a player behavior problem. [SPEAKER_01]: And you can't solve a player behavior with mechanics. [SPEAKER_01]: You kind of need to just have a conversation with your friends that you're playing with about.

[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I set up this cool big combat for you. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's make it cinematic together as opposed to, you know, doing your immediate, uh, fix. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think it just ends up kind of creating this like, DM player cold war in big combat, where all of the spellcasters and fighters are saving their biggest guns for whenever the legendary resistances get worn out.

[SPEAKER_01]: And DMs are waiting for the big guns to go off to use the legendary resistances, and it just ends up dragging combat out for a really long time. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's I think we should just get rid of it. [SPEAKER_01]: I think we just need to talk to our tables more about what we went out of the combat rather than trying to negate what are already really hard hits to land.

[SPEAKER_02]: This is very interesting because you have me at like with the hot take of we should get rid of legendary resistances. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, okay, I'm pouring the gasoline. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's set this on fire. [SPEAKER_02]: And then your solution being that it should be a conversation rather than a better mechanic is the thing that I think is the hottest take It's like, you know when you eat something spicy and then you like you're like, oh, this is fine And then you swallow it and you get like the second kick.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's the hot take and I don't know what the solution is But I think I disagree with that [SPEAKER_01]: Could I offer a counterpoint? [SPEAKER_01]: Because something that I've seen that I like used in third party content like MCDM has a lot of big bad guys that have kind of an alternate version of legendary resistance where it costs them something to resist your attacks.

[SPEAKER_01]: So for example, like 10 feet of movement speed or it lowers their AC for the rest of the fight so it still has [SPEAKER_01]: some of the effects of legendary resistance, but it is still mechanic. [SPEAKER_01]: And that is I will say the only happy medium where I'm like, okay, I guess legendary resistance is fine because I as the player still feel like I'm accomplishing something, even if I'm setting off the metaphorical big gun of whatever spell is not going to do its thing.

[SPEAKER_05]: Dane does pathfinder and starfinder have a legendary resistance? [SPEAKER_05]: Ish, they don't. [SPEAKER_04]: Typically, it's higher level enemies will have what my players will call bullshit abilities in which they will just be either immune to certain things or will have like really powerful reactions to be like if they take X amount of damage they [SPEAKER_04]: Pathfinder and Starfinder, especially the first editions of both are very action economy focused.

[SPEAKER_04]: And D&D is very similar, but I find that Starfinder is really like that because you've got like really high tech. [SPEAKER_04]: stuff so you really have to like be like well why can't I just use my jetpack or my teleporter or my fourth field or so there's a lot of like action economy rules to sort of like balance that I think I disagree with you in the sense that I think if you're gonna put one boss [SPEAKER_04]: in a room with three to five to six incredibly strong heroes, you need to balance the tables.

[SPEAKER_04]: And I think there's something to be said about, like the problem is like meta gaming, right? [SPEAKER_04]: Is like what you were saying in the sense of being like, well, I know this creature probably has legendary resistances. [SPEAKER_04]: So therefore, I'm not going to use my level nine spells or whatever.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's where you run into a problem and that's where I agree that like you need to have, like, hopefully your players are buying in and being like, I'm not going to met a game and assume that, you know, the big Necromancer guy can just eat my spells, but I think it's also a flavor thing too, right?

[SPEAKER_04]: I think if you just say legendary resistance your spell doesn't go through and you leave it at that, [SPEAKER_04]: I think that's lame, whereas if you never use the word legendary resistance and you just tell the party what's happened, I think you can you can fluff it, right? [SPEAKER_04]: You can be like, oh, you cast your spell and he tears up a rip into reality and the fireball gets sucked into, you know, the dark tapestry or whatever and just never use the word legendary resistance.

[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm playing in like a high level campaign and we're going against a boss, especially if I'm playing Dungeons and Dragons, I haven't played Pathfinder, but I've played Starfinder. [SPEAKER_02]: I have activated the part of my brain that is trying to optimize numbers and things for a big hit.

[SPEAKER_02]: or like I want to do strategy and I want to do crunch. [SPEAKER_02]: And to me, it would be more rewarding to know that there's the potential for if that if I hold back, I could risk either I can hold back my spells hoping that we can waste a resource that this boss may or may not have or that we'll do whatever.

[SPEAKER_02]: or I can hit hard and risk wiping my spells. [SPEAKER_02]: However, the idea is that we are both going to hit as hard as possible and pull out all of the stops in order to do this big combat. [SPEAKER_02]: That is what I would want out of that and I don't think that a talking about either some things being off the table unless there's a reason in the game would be as rewarding.

[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting. [SPEAKER_05]: to tangent a little bit, I love what Dane described as of not saying what the mechanic is. [SPEAKER_05]: So like when you don't say someone's like, when you attack like an NPC and you don't say what the save that they got was, you just say the effects of it, you don't say you pass or you fail, you just say this happens.

[SPEAKER_05]: I think that's so brilliant because it, [SPEAKER_05]: It becomes so much richer narratively and cinematically to just say that happens as opposed to say, oh, they got a 17 and then this happens. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, like the best move is always going to be add flavor and narrative to your descriptions of everything.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like even as a player, you should be like, you shouldn't just be saying, I cast fireball. [SPEAKER_01]: She'd be like, okay, well, I take this spell component and I, you know, do this action to unleash this huge, and then, you know, you can figure out the mechanics of yourself. [SPEAKER_01]: But I think what gets me about legendary resistance, because Dana, I love what you're saying about pathfinder and starfinder, because they don't have legendary resistance, but there are kind of a [SPEAKER_01]: legendary actions, where your one dragon gets additional things that it can do between rounds, not on its turn to help compensate for the action economy, which I find to be a much richer way to keep the combat interesting, keep your players on their toes because you're firing your big guns while they fire their big guns.

[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, still let's you beef up your bad guys to compete with higher level parties and higher level players. [SPEAKER_01]: Without just saying like your big spell doesn't work because I think what I've run into as someone who likes to play a lot of spellcasters is you get a very limited resource in spell slots, especially for higher level spells and so the instinct is.

[SPEAKER_01]: let me save these for the big bad guy. [SPEAKER_01]: I know we have to fight at the end of this dungeon. [SPEAKER_01]: But maybe you only have one six level spell slot. [SPEAKER_01]: And so if you use that to get down a legendary resistance, there are narrative ways that you can make it sound cooler.

[SPEAKER_01]: But at the end of the day, we are still playing a game, and I think as a player, there's nowhere in this of like, [SPEAKER_01]: I am just kind of throwing a resource out of wall to get this guy down in the vein hope that he hasn't already just failed the save, which many spells and D&D are, especially at a higher level.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's already a lot of ways for a big bad guy too. [SPEAKER_01]: not like it becomes susceptible to your disintegrate, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Like there's already a really strong chance that they have high buffs to their stats, high, you know, additions to whatever they roll, that they're already going to fail.

[SPEAKER_01]: And so the moment of success is a player, I'm like, oh my gosh, everything's synced up. [SPEAKER_01]: We used cutting words and silvery barbs and through like, oh, wishing a prayer, my big gun worked all to be fading away because it's one of three legendary resistances that we know this guy has on the fight is very frustrating.

[SPEAKER_02]: And and I think you're winning me back here because I think framing it as a legendary resistance is a cop out for what could be a much more interesting mechanical reason for that I can get on board with that because even like because even thinking about like a counter spell like that something the players have access to even if they didn't it's like a resource there's a role there's some level of control and giving people.

[SPEAKER_02]: Not even just like the illusion, but just the chance for something to go through. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I love giving the illusion of choice to players. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's what you get out when you're talking about like the way you you flavor it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And I do think it could be limiting.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is a big difference between like D&D and pathfinder as I understand it and starfinder or like as I've played like the five you look like space five you, you know, wraps and stuff and it's just [SPEAKER_02]: I think D&D simplifies in a way that takes away the mechanical consequences of very particular decisions.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's an interesting like argument to make either way of like I really like the idea of like oh when you use a legendary resistance that also like it's it's you know your big armored you know death night Who blocks a disintegrate with a shield, but now is shields gone so now he he has lower AC like I like that that kicks ass if I was in a boss fight and I was feeling like oh sure my my level six spell just got [SPEAKER_04]: zapped, but I see a result out of it.

[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like you're using your eyes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Check a box. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: That's, that's cool. [SPEAKER_04]: Like I like that, but I do understand that like there needs to be some way to be like, because like, I don't know the kind of people you're playing with, but especially in like my home games and stuff, where, like, if I give my five players [SPEAKER_04]: If I'm playing that character or that that boss stat black block like [SPEAKER_04]: the way it should be run with the right AC and the right HP, they're, it's done around one.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: If it rolls, if it rolls low initiative, it's probably not even going to get to go because they're going to do crazy S shit to specifically because they are holding their actions and they're holding their spells for this moment. [SPEAKER_04]: And that sucks both for me and I think for the players.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think there's a point of diminishing return of like every now and then if your player [SPEAKER_04]: One of your bosses. [SPEAKER_04]: There's a moment of being like that kicked ass, but if that happens every time I think you start being like, well, maybe written legendary resistance could make it made that fight a little cooler.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm calling you to you like the ring of power. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, negates the fight. [SPEAKER_01]: So easy. [SPEAKER_01]: No, I think that's valid, you know, like I don't want to discount DM enjoyment to GM enjoyment to the game because that is, you know, they're also a player at the hay.

[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, they're also a player to table a little bot takes. [SPEAKER_04]: Fuck those guys. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: But it's, it's something to be said, like with legendary resistances, it shouldn't be there to thwart your players, it should be there to make the combat challenging in the sense that they now have to like come up with a better plan than.

[SPEAKER_04]: cast-high level spell cast-high level spell cast-high level spell right like it's it needs to be like if we're gonna believe that these people are level 15 because they've parted together for as long as they have and they've fought their way to that level in that power level I would expect them to be like well I'm gonna use my high level spell to drop the resistance hopefully so that you can go right like there there should be a level of of collaboration and teamwork [SPEAKER_04]: that should be being used and if you're just operating on everyone like on their own track of being like GMUs legendary resistance, wizard uses high level spell to get eaten.

[SPEAKER_04]: Druid doesn't do anything because he doesn't want his spell to be eaten. [SPEAKER_04]: You know, like I think that point in time, there's a bigger disconnect in terms of how the table is being played than mechanics. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to steal that next time I run a high level thing of like, you know, when you, the legendary resistance becomes the lost shield or something like that.

[SPEAKER_05]: I think that's yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: That's always like, we fixed it. [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, what did you, you said that there was a source material that does. [SPEAKER_01]: D.M. [SPEAKER_01]: is periodically publishes some like zine issues and also supplements for D.M. [SPEAKER_01]: mostly for D.N.D.

[SPEAKER_01]: 5E, but I'm sure that a lot of it could be adapted to other things. [SPEAKER_01]: Our D.M. [SPEAKER_01]: Austin loves pull in monster stat blocks from them because they're really good at incorporating a lot of interesting mechanics that kind of... [SPEAKER_01]: balance action economy, introduce new problems for players and ways that can really like change up a fight.

[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, plays well with the system, you know, it plays to the strengths of, okay, the thing that I really like of theirs is both the legendary resistance lowering AC, or specifically reducing movement speed was well-nigrant into recently where it's like, okay, every time you use this legendary resistance, this, you know, dragon is going to be 10 feet slower and it's going to make a lot harder for it to get around this big battlefield, [SPEAKER_01]: Um, but also adding things like legendary actions so the creature can, you know, do interesting things or like layer actions so the creature can, you know, change the shape of the battlefield, which I think could be a really effective way to make your players use resources.

[SPEAKER_01]: They might be trying to save to do a big hit instead to sort of change the terrain of the field. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, but yeah, it's MCD. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm great. [SPEAKER_01]: We can't recommend it. [SPEAKER_05]: No, yeah, it's just because they do want to go ahead and rank the letterary resistance as bad take.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm torn between a seven and a. I think that's a pretty hot take. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, obviously, again, nowhere near the D. Eight. [SPEAKER_04]: The defendant was a softball just. [SPEAKER_02]: Not to me. [SPEAKER_02]: Apparently, I feel really strongly about dies. [SPEAKER_02]: I feel more strongly about that.

[SPEAKER_02]: Take than anything I've heard today. [SPEAKER_02]: So I think eight. [SPEAKER_02]: I like, I just like the concept of a Naga Viper. [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to give it an eight solid. [SPEAKER_05]: Is that the pepper? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Dane. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm so new home for a creature.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, no consultation. [SPEAKER_04]: It sounds cool. [SPEAKER_04]: I think I'm going to give this a seven. [SPEAKER_04]: I like a seven is is I think the [SPEAKER_04]: the discussion was was and I think I think there are some DMs who will fight you to their bitter end to maintain legendary resistances.

[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, I think seven. [SPEAKER_04]: Actually, I'm going to bump up to eight. [SPEAKER_04]: I think eight is yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to go with I think a six because of the fact of what you described if it's [SPEAKER_04]: So disheartening to have it happen like when you cast your level nine fireball and they're just like I survived You know it'd be a great way to let me test this is you make a reddit post on like a D&D subreddit with these takes And see how it goes and see how absolutely Bad shit people go Yeah, I mean if this really picks up, you know, maybe we can get our own subreddit that people will discuss all the takes [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would love to see how normal people would be about a woman having a gaming take-on line.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean... [SPEAKER_04]: Honestly, in my rating, I've always been like, yeah, I can hear, I think Amelia, you talked about it in the other episode where it's like, people getting upset about the thing that you consume everyone would. [SPEAKER_02]: And let me just make an announcement here.

[SPEAKER_02]: If you disagree with any of my takes, I really do not care. [SPEAKER_02]: Please go argue and do not tag me in it. [SPEAKER_02]: I, like, you can have whatever opinion you want. [SPEAKER_02]: I just don't, I don't need that in my mentions. [SPEAKER_05]: to recap this episode. [SPEAKER_05]: At the bottom, with a wonderful ranking of Bards aren't sexy, is Amelia's sake of 4.66.

[SPEAKER_05]: Sophia's legendary resistances are bad. [SPEAKER_05]: Take is 7.33. [SPEAKER_05]: And with the hottest take to date, Danes, Dates, suck, take is a 9.66. [SPEAKER_05]: anyone learn anything or have feelings changed about anything that's presented today? [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think I experienced my feeling changes in real time.

[SPEAKER_02]: I learned that I care a lot more about the fate of D8 than D4's. [UNKNOWN]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I loved your class, sexiness ranking. [SPEAKER_05]: I thought that was great. [SPEAKER_05]: I had accurate. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, thank you. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm gonna try to appreciate the D8 more.

[SPEAKER_04]: I've heard what you said. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm listening. [SPEAKER_02]: I know, double down on my hate of the D4 out of respect. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: That's honestly, that's what I came here to do. [SPEAKER_04]: I actually got a question, that's what I'm talking about. [SPEAKER_05]: I came here to get more haters.
