[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite lorecast on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_07]: Welcome to the Mass Effect lorecast. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm in seven the legend. [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm Genesis, join us. [SPEAKER_07]: As we explore along tides of light and through the shoals of dust to see where this lore began.
[SPEAKER_05]: And consider where it may go. [SPEAKER_07]: Good morning, Milky Way. [SPEAKER_07]: This is the Mass Effect Lorkast, and we're coming to you live with full biotic force from our anti-ferricks and headquarters at Port Hanshin. [SPEAKER_07]: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
[SPEAKER_06]: Hmm, I don't know how to report from where I'm at right now, but I'm at least here and on the air keeping the freedom. [SPEAKER_07]: There we go, there we go, all right. [SPEAKER_07]: So, got to address the terrain in the room, which is that we are a couple days late. [SPEAKER_07]: recording.
[SPEAKER_07]: And that's because life got in the way. [SPEAKER_07]: Some baby stuff. [SPEAKER_07]: We've got some, you know, other doctor stuff going on, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Genesis, but we're here. [SPEAKER_07]: We're a couple days late, but and we've got a special lore episode. [SPEAKER_07]: We did not have time to do our due diligence prepping for the Paul Grayson, the second part of that episode.
[SPEAKER_07]: That is still coming, but we didn't want to have acid. [SPEAKER_07]: So, [SPEAKER_07]: We are going to be focusing on some little known lore today, which Genesis you've done the primary research here, and so I'll hand it over to you. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, so I know that we wanted to talk about grace in it, and that's definitely still going to happen, but what happens in the third book of the OG trilogy, like of the Mass Effect Books, is really intense emotionally, and I've had a pretty emotionally intense week and kind of needed a little bit of light-hearted lore to go through with that.
[SPEAKER_06]: If you want to hear my mental breakdown, go, which listen to the Witcher lore cast. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that's one. [SPEAKER_06]: Uh, so what I did research on the, uh, Ralloway, and I don't know if everybody knows really who they are, uh, because we don't get to meet any of them, but they have lore.
[SPEAKER_07]: they do. [SPEAKER_07]: And this is, I think, one of the most requested little-known lore episodes that people have brought up during the show. [SPEAKER_07]: Like, I remember requests for us to cover the Ralloy coming in from like all the way dating back to like episode two. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_07]: People want to know more about the Ralloy. [SPEAKER_07]: So we're going to go through everything at least that we are aware of that we know about [SPEAKER_07]: with a little caveat, which is that you will probably still want more, like it will not be satisfying. [SPEAKER_06]: No, but we will go through everything that we have, everything that we can confirm and maybe a little speculation if we have the time, because I would love to see them in the next game.
[SPEAKER_06]: That'd be really cool. [SPEAKER_07]: Them and the virtual aliens. [SPEAKER_07]: But that's another topic for another day. [SPEAKER_07]: So where do we get started here with the rawloid? [SPEAKER_07]: Let's, why don't we talk about, you know, where they're from? [SPEAKER_07]: What do they look like?
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, so the most basic information that we have are that the Ralloy are an avian species originating on the planet Tervez, who made first contact with the Asari in 2184 after launching their first space telescope and discovering the Asari cruiser Azadis in their system. [SPEAKER_07]: So that's kind of interesting.
[SPEAKER_07]: It sounds like they encountered another race so much earlier and their own space exploration kind of journey than humanity did. [SPEAKER_07]: Humanity had to develop basically FTL travel and then reach the caron relay in order to meet the Turians. [SPEAKER_07]: I'll be at the less friendly circumstance.
[SPEAKER_07]: But [SPEAKER_07]: the rolloi all they did was launch their first space telescope right or did they have astronaut so to speak already in space. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm not sure they already had astronauts in space yet, but we do know by a little bit more of their history that we'll get into that they might have been known by other species before the Asari.
[SPEAKER_06]: Now, this is just they discovered an Asari cruiser in their system when they launched their first space, telescope. [SPEAKER_07]: So do we know anything more about their home world [SPEAKER_06]: We do, we actually have kind of a planet card, a little bit of breakdown of that. [SPEAKER_06]: And it simply is first stated that Terves is the homeworld of the Ralloy, go figure.
[SPEAKER_06]: But then shortly after Terves' indigenous species, the Ralloy launched their first, first, space telescope in 2184. [SPEAKER_06]: They spotted the Asari Cruiser Azadis in their system. [SPEAKER_06]: The Asari initiated first contact and the Ralloy were formally welcomed into the galactic community the following year by a Citadel sponsored delegation that landed on the planet.
[SPEAKER_06]: To protect the Ralloy from possible contamination from diseases born by other species, other ships were prohibited from landing during that time period. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay, so let me jump in. [SPEAKER_07]: There's a few things. [SPEAKER_07]: Number one, we have someone in chat here, Alcatraz Prisoner 01 has a great point.
[SPEAKER_07]: And Alcatraz Prisoner says 2184, bad timing to be discovered, which is very true, especially because they're not, they're formally welcome to the Think Galactic Community in 2085. [SPEAKER_07]: So during the events of Mass Effect [SPEAKER_06]: the timing on this one is definitely interesting and it comes into play.
[SPEAKER_06]: So I can't wait to talk about that portion of things. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, and I also wanted to bring up so it might be bad timing for them to be introduced, but of all the galactic races to first meet, I think they kind of lucked out that it was the Asari. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes, especially because it's like a story or not going to come out guns blazing, I do believe that that's definitely a theory and thing.
[SPEAKER_06]: But for them meeting the a sorry first and being initiated through that level of contact, I think it was good for them. [SPEAKER_06]: It was definitely [SPEAKER_07]: It's kind of like the difference of like if you're comparing humanities and introduction to the galactic community versus the railways, it's like the difference of have you ever started a new job and then like like your first week there, you really click with someone that you're going to be working with and and you're like, okay, I'm like pretty excited about this job now.
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, definitely. [SPEAKER_07]: Versus you start a new job and the first person you meet on your team is just a total dick for no reason. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes. [SPEAKER_06]: I definitely have been in positions like that or when for me it's more of like I want to make all those new people coming into my job because I've been there for 17 years now.
[SPEAKER_06]: I make sure that I'm one of the first people that they meet and take them around the building do like a really good introduction and just the fact that I get along with so many people at work show that this is the [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I guess you're the matriarch of your job, so that you're the matriarch of your office.
[SPEAKER_07]: So there you go. [SPEAKER_07]: All right, so let's talk a little bit about what we know about their biology, which is not much. [SPEAKER_06]: it's not. [SPEAKER_06]: The Ralloy are an avian in appearance and possess feathers, which is cool. [SPEAKER_06]: We don't see feathers anywhere else.
[SPEAKER_07]: Bird person. [SPEAKER_07]: So that's what we're getting right now. [SPEAKER_07]: They're avian appearance and possess feathers, but I don't see any details here that like specifies that they're bipedal or that they're somewhat humanoid. [SPEAKER_06]: nope, uh, and my head, it's kind of big bird.
[SPEAKER_06]: That's what I'm looking at. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm looking at big bird. [SPEAKER_07]: Incredible. [SPEAKER_07]: So, so they're avian. [SPEAKER_07]: They have feathers, and it looks like they're kind of like evolution was shaped by sickness. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, because due to an outbreak of an alien flu virus among the Ralloy during the ceremonies held to welcome them to the galactic community, the Ralloy have to wear environmental suits while in contact with other alien species.
[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, so they're like big bird under a coriance suit. [SPEAKER_06]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_06]: That is exactly what this is. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay, do you think that their beaks would like cause the helmets of that environmental suit to be quite elongated? [SPEAKER_06]: I think they would have to be, yeah.
[SPEAKER_07]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_06]: That's a very interesting shape and you know, I don't know if it would be skin tight the way that it is on a Korean or if it would allow for additional movement, you know, so maybe a little bit more volleysy shaped. [SPEAKER_07]: Maybe it would be, yeah, because I can imagine if your bird, if you're avian, that would imply the existence of wings, and we already know that they have feathers.
[SPEAKER_07]: So you wouldn't want something skin tight to ruffle your feathers quite literally. [SPEAKER_07]: And, and then like, constrict your wings, I can imagine that would not be very fun. [SPEAKER_07]: So, yeah, maybe it would be like a giant, amorphic bag. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, walking around and trash bags on the Citadel, that sounds like a great introduction.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I don't know. [SPEAKER_07]: I really want to see some concept art of the Ralloy. [SPEAKER_07]: In fact, I have that big art of Mass Effect book that goes over the art of the original trilogy. [SPEAKER_07]: I haven't read through every page, but I have not come across any depictions of the Ralloy at all.
[SPEAKER_06]: No, I don't think that they're in there. [SPEAKER_06]: I would have found that in my research if they were in the book. [SPEAKER_07]: Right. [SPEAKER_06]: The same book? [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: That's right. [SPEAKER_07]: So, okay. [SPEAKER_07]: So, what happened before 2021-84 when the Asari found them?
[SPEAKER_06]: So, prior to their official discovery by the Asari, apparently the Ralloy have been known to the Elkore for far longer. [SPEAKER_06]: The latter race have a monotnemonic. [SPEAKER_06]: That's a tongue twister word. [SPEAKER_06]: A nemonic. [SPEAKER_06]: Happy Terriens, treat Braloy and Rock Nye to dinner.
[SPEAKER_06]: No, I don't know what that's a namanic for. [SPEAKER_06]: What? [UNKNOWN]: No, what? [SPEAKER_07]: Maybe it's... Happy... Terri and Street Railway and Vraknoi to dinner. [SPEAKER_07]: Maybe the happy is preceding the phrase. [SPEAKER_07]: I don't see a colon there, so maybe the happy is just part of it.
[SPEAKER_07]: But what in the world does that mean? [SPEAKER_07]: Happy Terri and Street Railway and Vraknoi to dinner. [SPEAKER_07]: It sounds like just a mass-effectified version of some other idiom or phrase. [SPEAKER_07]: that might be in our own world. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: I mean, a nomonic is supposed to help you remember things.
[SPEAKER_06]: So, like, please excuse my dear Aunt Sally, for Pam Dawson, the parentheses, exponents, you know, a mathematical equation. [SPEAKER_06]: So, I don't know what nomonic HTTPRRD would be. [SPEAKER_07]: who knows. [SPEAKER_07]: You know, it's interesting to me that that apparently the Elcore were aware of the Ralloway for so long.
[SPEAKER_07]: The Elcore had been part of the galactic community for so long, but like never brought up the Ralloway to the galactic community. [SPEAKER_07]: Like does that mean like the Elcore are real OGs and they would not snitch on someone? [SPEAKER_06]: I mean, it's quite possible because that Namanik was considered to be common knowledge among the Elkore, at least three generations earlier.
[SPEAKER_06]: So they've known about them for more than a minute. [SPEAKER_07]: Right. [SPEAKER_07]: So I don't know. [SPEAKER_07]: Maybe the Elkore were like, you know, we're not going to introduce them because maybe they're all the way. [SPEAKER_07]: Don't want official ties yet. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm also thinking, if that were the case, the Raoloi were well aware that there were alien races before being introduced to the galactic community, did the Raoloi governments tell their people that, or did they sit on it?
[SPEAKER_06]: Or it could be that the L core did some kind of scouting mission to the planet and realize that this species wasn't ready yet to be, you know, a space fairing, they weren't able yet to create these things on their own and instead of doing what other species have done in the past through uplifting and genetic modifications and things like that decided to be like, okay, no, we're going to pull out and just wait for them to do it on their own.
[SPEAKER_07]: How long do L-Core live? [SPEAKER_07]: I forgot let me I'm gonna look that up for you. [SPEAKER_06]: I feel like they have a longer lifespan. [UNKNOWN]: Oh, man. [SPEAKER_07]: I knew this at one point. [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, man. [SPEAKER_07]: That was you don't want that. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I can't find anything on the wiki just on a quick search about how long they live [SPEAKER_07]: That's interesting.
[SPEAKER_07]: So, depending on how long L-Core live, three generations could mean that at the time, the L-Core discovered the rolloi, the state of the galaxy was not exactly peaceful, and depending on what the motivations were for the L-Core, I would venture to guess that they would see the rolloi as very vulnerable to another race.
[SPEAKER_07]: And so they might not want to spread the word about the Ralloy because they were aware that they could not defend themselves. [SPEAKER_07]: And the L-course seemed anything but imperial. [SPEAKER_06]: So yeah, it also makes me wonder what the Asari were doing there. [SPEAKER_06]: You know, were they just on their own scouting mission?
[SPEAKER_06]: Were they trying to find another planet? [SPEAKER_06]: How did they discover it? [SPEAKER_06]: And they just happened to be in space at the time that a telescope was launched or did they plan? [SPEAKER_07]: We know that the Asari have met other races, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Like, sent delegation.
[SPEAKER_07]: They sent a delegation to the Yag homeworld. [SPEAKER_07]: And that didn't go too well. [SPEAKER_07]: So, and we also know that the Asari send out like plenty of scientific teams for scientific expeditions. [SPEAKER_07]: So, maybe that was it. [SPEAKER_07]: You know, I guess we just don't have specific [SPEAKER_07]: information about this as sorry cruiser as CDs, right?
[SPEAKER_07]: Because that would probably tell us what we needed to know. [SPEAKER_07]: It sounds like there's their telescope that the rolloie launched at 2184 allowed them to see the as sorry cruiser, but that they as sorry initiated first contact. [SPEAKER_07]: So [SPEAKER_07]: I don't know, I guess maybe I'm getting tripped up on the details here, but I am still wondering about what Happy Turian Street Ralloy and Ragnide dinner means.
[SPEAKER_07]: Maybe that means like, don't piss off the Turians? [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, especially bringing in the Ragnide. [SPEAKER_06]: There's nobody that we know of in the galaxy who was friendly with the Ragnide other than [SPEAKER_07]: So possibly twice, but yeah, treat them to dinner also makes me think like, does that mean the terrians would eat the raw loy and the rack nigh like are they dinner is is that the joke?
[SPEAKER_07]: maybe. [SPEAKER_07]: I feel like there's some kind of like joke to over your world phrase that we're just not getting here. [SPEAKER_07]: And I would love to hear it in the comments if one of our listeners are viewers has an idea. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay, so we also get a lot of lore, like the majority of lore that we know about the rawloi is actually from server stately news, right?
[SPEAKER_06]: Because this is where we actually get the details about how they first were brought into the community is through the CDN. [SPEAKER_06]: And we have those here. [SPEAKER_06]: Now this first one came out February 9th of 2010 and was titled, Ralloy welcomed to Citadel space. [SPEAKER_06]: The Citadel Council welcomed welcomes the planet tervess to the galactic community today.
[SPEAKER_06]: The planet's sentient species, the Ralloy, launched their first space telescope into orbit last year, which detected the presence of the Asari Cruiser Azadis. [SPEAKER_06]: tomorrow visitors from all over the galaxy will land outside six cities on tervess bearing welcome wishes and gifts for the rally tickets for the count.
[SPEAKER_07]: I wanted to jump in right here before we go further because I think we can infer something about a railway anthropology here. [SPEAKER_07]: which is that they do form cities. [SPEAKER_07]: Not all of the races in mass-effect form cities. [SPEAKER_07]: The Varcha don't, the Elkore are more tribal.
[SPEAKER_07]: They don't, they don't really form cities so much. [SPEAKER_07]: So it is interesting that the Ralloy are forming cities and have at least six of them on Terves. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and it sounds like that would leave me to think that there are way more than six. [SPEAKER_06]: These are just like six capitals, maybe something big and meaningful cities to the Ralloy, and that's why they are landing there.
[SPEAKER_06]: I also like that it's going to be a whole bunch of different species. [SPEAKER_06]: I'll come in together to welcome them in to be like, here's all of us. [SPEAKER_06]: All at once, come and meet us and greet us. [SPEAKER_06]: I think that's interesting. [SPEAKER_06]: What do you bring as a gift to a species you've never met before?
[SPEAKER_07]: Considering that it's the rawloi, I might bring like worms. [UNKNOWN]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_07]: Or like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_07]: Seed. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm afraid. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: Bird seed. [SPEAKER_06]: Now, if you really wanted to go to this event, tickets for the Council's sponsored ships have been sold out for months, and due to disease concerns, no other ships are legally allowed planetfall at that time.
[SPEAKER_06]: a combo in near the turvets will be dedicated to sending welcome messages to the planet for 20 galactic standard hours. [SPEAKER_07]: So this is pretty cool for me because you might think that because the rolloi have to wear these environmental suits whenever they're contacting other alien species.
[SPEAKER_07]: They have to wear environmental suits, which you would think might have an effect on their behavior that it might deter them from interacting with other species. [SPEAKER_07]: But that doesn't seem to be the case here. [SPEAKER_07]: It seems like the Raoloi were quite welcoming of their visitors.
[SPEAKER_07]: All things considered. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes, so at this point in the storyline, they don't have to wear and virus suits because they don't know about the diseases. [SPEAKER_06]: It's just that the council wants to prevent disease by limiting the amount of people. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: Gotcha.
[SPEAKER_07]: I was getting ahead of myself there. [SPEAKER_07]: All right, so we have the rest of this story arc that goes through server stately news. [SPEAKER_07]: However, we do have to jump to the mid break where I believe you have a pop quiz sound effect voice line for me. [SPEAKER_07]: All right, let's go over the mid break and we'll be right back.
[SPEAKER_02]: We have the bacon. [SPEAKER_02]: We have beer, the foods of my people. [SPEAKER_01]: Young men have funny ideas of what a story are like. [SPEAKER_01]: I blame the extra net, and computer games. [SPEAKER_04]: Rex, Shepherd, Grant, Shepard, Rex. [SPEAKER_04]: Right. [SPEAKER_07]: All right.
[SPEAKER_07]: Here we are in the middle of the show where we read out your five star reviews on Apple podcast. [SPEAKER_07]: We also picked some comments from our most recent Spotify episodes. [SPEAKER_07]: But Genesis, we have a new five star review on Apple podcasts coming to us from Canada. [SPEAKER_07]: So do you want to go ahead and read this one out?
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, from a minute quick, my go-to podcast. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to be honest, I fell in love with Mass Effect before, but I fell even harder after listening to the podcast. [SPEAKER_06]: I recommend this lower cast at everyone in the Citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: I should go. [SPEAKER_06]: Commander, ship.
[SPEAKER_07]: That's awesome. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, thank you, Mid-Aquick. [SPEAKER_07]: Very much appreciated. [SPEAKER_07]: Like we've said, plenty times before, word of mouth is probably the most valuable gift that you could give us. [SPEAKER_07]: So, tell all your friends. [SPEAKER_07]: And we also have our tier five patrons to shout out, butts, butts, butts.
[SPEAKER_07]: Unfortunately, a benefactor William Superfly 440 [SPEAKER_07]: And with that, Genesis, give me what, give me your best shot. [SPEAKER_07]: What do you got, what do you got for me? [SPEAKER_07]: Let me explain this sound, this voice line. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so it's not my best shot. [SPEAKER_06]: It's not a hard one that I don't think so.
[SPEAKER_06]: But the fact that I brought this line up in conversation and you didn't know it was like, okay, I'm not gonna explain it and we are going to use it as a sound effect. [SPEAKER_07]: All right, Effett, we'll do it live. [SPEAKER_07]: Here we go, the final name that she sent me just is called Massage Wands.
[SPEAKER_07]: So I can't wait to hear this one, here we go. [SPEAKER_00]: Do you know who Kay, someone does it? [SPEAKER_00]: She has great taste and adjustable massage ones. [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, wow! [SPEAKER_07]: All right, Samantha Trainer. [SPEAKER_07]: with the spicy take on Kaylee Sanders probably details.
[SPEAKER_07]: We did not need to know clearly this is in Mass Effect 3. [SPEAKER_07]: Otherwise we wouldn't get trainer. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm going to guess it's some time around the Griss and Academy mission because that's where we actually meet Kaylee Sanders. [SPEAKER_07]: But I might be wrong, maybe you know what it's from the Citadel DLC, isn't it?
[SPEAKER_06]: Yep. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: It's done. [SPEAKER_07]: Let me try and get a little bit more specific. [SPEAKER_07]: Is it from the part where Shepherd is separated from the rest of the crew right after the attack on the sushi restaurant and there's a bunch of chatter going over the combs?
[SPEAKER_06]: That is a great guess, but no. [SPEAKER_07]: Ah, okay, all right, I give up then. [SPEAKER_07]: I'll just say that I did not get this one. [SPEAKER_07]: I got like some of it, but we don't do partial credits. [SPEAKER_07]: So, what? [SPEAKER_06]: You've got a majority of it, the fact that you got, I mean, the Samantha trainer in Mass Effect 3, that was the softball part.
[SPEAKER_06]: The other part is the fact that she is in the hot tub in Anderson's apartment. [SPEAKER_06]: And so this scene plays out so differently, Femshep versus Brochep, because in the game, Samantha Trainers Lesbian and will not interact all that well with the Brochep, and makes him stand outside of his own bathroom while she likes their juries in the hot tub.
[SPEAKER_06]: And starts going through the bags that are located around the hot tub. [SPEAKER_06]: and finds Kaylee Saunders overnight bag with Lufa and massage oils and a massage wand. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay, so for anyone who read the books, but somehow did not play the Citadel DLC, you might have been kind of left up in the air about whether or not Kaylee Sanders and Anderson ever really did hook up.
[SPEAKER_07]: I think this is a like unrefeatable evidence or irrefeatable evidence, rather, that they got it on. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: For sure they did. [SPEAKER_07]: And use some toys apparently. [SPEAKER_06]: Apparently. [SPEAKER_06]: And I would also like to point out that the whole reason this line was brought up in conversation was talking about Kaylee Sanders.
[SPEAKER_06]: Not about anything. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: Thank you for the clarification there. [SPEAKER_07]: All right. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, that was a hell of a sound clip. [SPEAKER_07]: Let's get back to the rest of the show. [SPEAKER_03]: After time, a drift among open stars, a long tide of light and through shows of dust, I will return to where I began.
[SPEAKER_02]: Celery and reproduction different, very little sex drive. [SPEAKER_02]: If intended to try human, would try you. [SPEAKER_02]: Out, my bakeries! [SPEAKER_07]: All right, here we are back in the second half of the show and Genesis, we were talking about all the different races that were welcoming in the railway and I got to be honest when I was considering all the races of the Milky Way, especially at least the ones that are involved in the galactic community, I couldn't amint like I could not imagine that the Crogan would have a particularly good first impression.
[SPEAKER_07]: They are very happy to meet new species, but it's like inviting your drunk uncle to a person, you know, like it's like inviting your drunk uncle to Like a business happy hour. [SPEAKER_07]: You're constantly on edge about what they might do or say [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, yes, that is true. [SPEAKER_06]: And that is kind of what happens here.
[SPEAKER_06]: Now on the 15th, the news article came out. [SPEAKER_06]: Crogan delegation, ejected from Rally welcome ceremonies. [SPEAKER_07]: Swampwamp. [SPEAKER_06]: The Citadel Council delegation to the newly welcomed planet tervests ejected its Crogan representatives today after the introduction of a Crogan sport called Kola KOWLA.
[SPEAKER_06]: It devolved into a brawl that left three dead and 14 injured. [SPEAKER_07]: Mass violence. [SPEAKER_07]: Now it's a party. [SPEAKER_06]: The Crogan representatives denounced the ejection, saying that Colo was successfully introduced to Terves, with its traditions fully intact, and that there was no need to overact overreact.
[SPEAKER_06]: A poll taken among the Terves indicated that only 21% opposed the move to remove the Crogan from the remainder of the ceremonies. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay, so 79% of the pulled Ralloy were like, yeah, get these weird turtle bat creatures out of here, because they just killed three people and hurt 14 more.
[SPEAKER_06]: Now, it doesn't technically say that which species the three dead and 14 injured came from. [SPEAKER_06]: So maybe it was other crowgain or maybe they took out a Terri in our three, we don't know. [SPEAKER_06]: but yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: I'd also like to know more about how this sport works, Kola.
[SPEAKER_07]: Like, is there a ball? [SPEAKER_07]: Is it just hitting each other? [SPEAKER_07]: Like, I guess I can imagine the crew going to would come up with a sport where, yeah, we just run at each other at full speed with our head down. [SPEAKER_06]: I tried to research this sport, I really did, but it seems like this, and then a Mass Effect and Dramada reference are the only times that it comes up, and in in Dramada it just says that it's a sport paid play by Krogan where several people generally die, occasionally flame throwers are introduced.
[SPEAKER_06]: So I've got nothing. [SPEAKER_07]: Flamethrowers, right? [SPEAKER_07]: All right, sounds like a pretty fun and family friendly sport. [SPEAKER_07]: I am for one not at all surprised that the crogan would not understand that, hey, this new species we're meeting is not as fond of violence as we are.
[SPEAKER_06]: Exactly, and especially with avians, avians are flight, you know, they fly, they're birds. [SPEAKER_06]: They have really hollow bones, so that way there's no real bone density to them, so that way it's easier to fly, because you don't weigh as much. [SPEAKER_06]: And so I bet you if any Crogon tried to physically get into an argument with them, they would crumble and crush pretty easily.
[SPEAKER_07]: Right. [SPEAKER_07]: So not everything was going swimmingly with the welcome ceremonies. [SPEAKER_07]: So that took place on tervests. [SPEAKER_07]: That was on the rolloi homeworld. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm guessing the rolloi sent a delegation over an exchange to the citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_06]: on the 18th we have that the Ralloy delegation sent to the Citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: Now that the celebrations on the planet tervests have ended, a Ralloy delegation has been sent to the Citadel for a three-month stay. [SPEAKER_06]: The delegation will be educated in intergalactic law, history, alien biology, and culture, and the rudiments of mass-effect physics.
[SPEAKER_07]: Whoa, okay, so that's huge because that means that basically the galactic community is coming together to collectively advance the ROLEOIS science like hundreds of years. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, because these people have just launched their first telescope into space and now we have aliens on their planet and we are bringing them into the citadel, which is [SPEAKER_07]: you.
[SPEAKER_07]: That is huge. [SPEAKER_07]: So this is like a pretty huge gesture of goodwill from the Citadel space races toward the Ralloy. [SPEAKER_07]: Not only are they giving them all these these benefits of mass fact physics, which by the way are also kind of the foundation of most weaponry in Mass Effect.
[SPEAKER_07]: So it could come back to bite them. [SPEAKER_07]: The races of the Citadel space seem to be pretty confident [SPEAKER_07]: as well as the knowledge of intergalactic law, history, alien biology and culture as well. [SPEAKER_07]: So it's kind of like, it feels like a starter pack to like, here's what you need to basically interact with everyone.
[SPEAKER_06]: But like the premium starter packet, that's like 99 versus the 99 cent one. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, right. [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, how would you feel if you were a human being on the Citadel and you were watching the welcome that the Ralloy got as opposed to the welcome that the human beings got I I'm willing to bet bottom dollar that unless it has already been written and I haven't seen it anywhere in the Mass Effect lore that there will be some kind of reference to Cerberus using this [SPEAKER_07]: the disparity in how the rolloie were welcomed versus how humanity was going to quote welcomed and they'll use it for recruitment material from propaganda purposes.
[SPEAKER_06]: Ooh, I like that because definitely I could see that playing in and fitting into the lore that we have. [SPEAKER_06]: Uh, and how fast are they going to get a seat on the council? [SPEAKER_06]: That's also going to be a key factor. [SPEAKER_07]: Right. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, they'll probably come up with some new like slurs for the Rollaway centered around birds like look at these egg layers.
[SPEAKER_07]: Anything these egg layers deserve a seat this quickly and then like I could totally see human supremacist advocating to like close the door behind them after they took the ladder up, you know. [SPEAKER_07]: And that would be ironic if they went that route, because then like the L-Core and the Volus would be like, dude, shut the hell up.
[SPEAKER_07]: Tell me again. [SPEAKER_06]: Right. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_06]: So we've talked about how the fact that there has been the environmental suits that they need to wear. [SPEAKER_06]: And this here is the reason why. [SPEAKER_06]: due to an outbreak of the H7N7 flu virus that infected the avian raloi during the opening ceremonies on their planet, the raloi on the citadel will wear environmental suits whenever they are in contact with an alien species.
[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, so first of all, I am attacked and offended that they would name it the age 7 and 7 virus. [SPEAKER_07]: Second of all, this means that I was under the impression that they were always wearing these environmental suits, but it seems that the very first welcoming parties got to see the Ralloy without their environmental suits.
[SPEAKER_07]: However, the party that sent to the Citadel, [SPEAKER_07]: those people, those rallyers are going to be wearing environmental suits whenever they're interacting with anyone outside their own race. [SPEAKER_06]: Pretty much. [SPEAKER_06]: Yep. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. [SPEAKER_06]: So whenever they're out walking around, they will be in some environmental suit like we talked about the trash bags.
[SPEAKER_07]: The trash bags, the birds and the trash bags. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: So there is knowledge within the Milky Way of [SPEAKER_07]: I suppose the Koreans, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Well, I guess some races like the Asari and the Crogans, and they would probably know what the Koreans look like underneath their suits, right?
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_06]: Uh, and I mean, technically we could know what Asari looked like underneath their suits. [SPEAKER_06]: The camera was just never facing the right rear-right, the Koreans. [SPEAKER_06]: We could. [SPEAKER_06]: It's just that the camera was never facing the correct way.
[SPEAKER_07]: You'd think that they would also have like images in the Citadel archives or something. [SPEAKER_07]: So, yeah, that's kind of weird that like Lyra or someone with like, you know, the knowledge to know or Rex, like no one brought up like the Korean's appearance, right? [SPEAKER_06]: I feel like it would have been a great elevator conversation between Geras and Talley.
[SPEAKER_06]: I love their dynamic when talking about their culture's histories and Mass Effect one. [SPEAKER_06]: It's pretty funny. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, speaking of alien appearances, I remember you brought up Garus, and I just remembered during the Turingian episode, so long ago, I discovered that they have trace amounts of thulium in their carapace, which we're exposed to ultraviolet light blows in the dark.
[SPEAKER_07]: So it would be awesome to bring a Turing to like a rave on earth. [SPEAKER_06]: Koreans are excellent waivers. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that'd be that'd be great. [SPEAKER_07]: Anyway, so that's the rest of what we get from Citadel or Cerberus Daily News, but we hear about the rallyway again in Mass Effect 3.
[SPEAKER_06]: We do, and this is where everything kind of comes together because in Mass Effect 3, they withdraw from the galaxy. [SPEAKER_06]: In 2186, during the Reaper Invasion, the Ralloway delegations withdraw from the Citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: Now unwilling and unable to fight the reapers, the Rallow decided to isolate themselves on Terves and destroy any satellites and observation equipment in orbit around their planet.
[SPEAKER_06]: And they hope that the reapers will see them as a pre-space flight civilization and spare their planet. [SPEAKER_07]: Honestly, not a terrible idea. [SPEAKER_07]: I can see why Rallo and leadership might think this way, because they literally just got introduced to the Galactic community.
[SPEAKER_07]: There is simply no way that they have [SPEAKER_07]: like the industry or the, you know, equipment to fight probably any one of the milky way races, maybe the volus, let alone the reapers. [SPEAKER_07]: And so with such an overwhelming threat and they just got to the party, I don't blame them for kind of like going walls up.
[SPEAKER_07]: However, they should know that the Citadel is going to have records of having met them. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes, but I could also see, and I think maybe this is just mean knowing how the game goes that they would pass over them, that the reapers would not see them as the next, I think that they would be saved for the next cycle, the way that humans were back during the [SPEAKER_07]: There's a key difference, though, because humans during the Protein cycle had not even gotten close to spaceflight.
[SPEAKER_07]: And technically, the raw-loin now have the secrets of mass-fect physics, which could very well change the evolution path that the reapers have so meticulously designed for each cycle. [SPEAKER_07]: Right, you know, we do know that the reapers are not flawless. [SPEAKER_07]: They do miss some things like those scientists, son-ilose.
[SPEAKER_07]: The protein scientists, son-ilose. [SPEAKER_07]: Among other things, yeah, they do miss some things. [SPEAKER_07]: They're not flawless. [SPEAKER_07]: So, yeah, maybe it's a sound plant. [SPEAKER_07]: Honestly, it just kind of seems like it's like a crappy plan, but it's their best option.
[SPEAKER_06]: It really is, because they don't have the things to fight back with. [SPEAKER_06]: Where we learn that information from is after re-regain access to the Spectre Office on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: And this is where we get this data entry is from the Spectre Office. [SPEAKER_06]: In an apparent bid for self-preservation, the entire Ralloy delegation has left the Citadel.
[SPEAKER_06]: In parting, representative, representative Akira, Arica said, we have no wish to battle those who have yet to wrong us, nor have we the capability. [SPEAKER_06]: the Ralloway plant. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: No, sorry, I just wanted to jump in yet. [SPEAKER_07]: We have no wish to battle those who have yet to wrong us.
[SPEAKER_07]: What? [SPEAKER_07]: I do. [SPEAKER_07]: You've been told about the Reapers, and you think that they have yet to wrong you? [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I mean, I'm in the crowd of like you hurt one of us, you hurt all of us, and so especially if it's part of a community that I want to become a part of.
[SPEAKER_06]: And so if I want to be a part of the galactic community and the humans were majorly attacked on earth, the other home planets are also being simultaneously attacked and they have attacked [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, they've wronged you too. [SPEAKER_07]: And also that they would have been presumably informed that the reapers destroy every sentient race that space-faring.
[SPEAKER_07]: That's why they go to the lengths to hide it and conceal it. [SPEAKER_07]: So this idea that they have yet to wrong you, [SPEAKER_07]: means that you know that they will. [SPEAKER_07]: So what are you talking about that you have no wish to battle? [SPEAKER_07]: Just say we can't like I don't know if it's if this is indicative of like the rolloie are pacifistic but prideful or perhaps prideful and very well aware of the fact that they will never stand a chance in this fight but they're trying to save face.
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I mean, the fact that they do say, say, nor have we the capability, I think that's an actual just like firepower, the fact that they don't have Mass Effect Field Generating weapons, they don't have that. [SPEAKER_06]: We don't know if any of them are biotic based. [SPEAKER_06]: We don't know if they have those type of capabilities.
[SPEAKER_06]: We don't know if they have it. [SPEAKER_06]: So, I just don't think [SPEAKER_06]: It's not good. [SPEAKER_06]: It's not good. [SPEAKER_06]: It's not a good look. [SPEAKER_07]: I think because this is a politician speaking, a politician from the Ralloy, I think that this is kind of like a saving face move or should I say save beak.
[SPEAKER_07]: Because they are essentially saying we won't stand a chance. [SPEAKER_07]: However, leadership would not want to say that to the population because the population would panic. [SPEAKER_07]: And clearly, they're trying to be extremely insular. [SPEAKER_07]: And so they cannot have a population that's panicking.
[SPEAKER_07]: If they're not going to, like I imagine they're shutting down all travel. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes, they say that the Ralloy plan to destroy all artificial satellites and observation equipment they currently have in orbit. [SPEAKER_06]: They say the reapers will see them as a pre-space-faring civilization and spare their planet.
[SPEAKER_06]: We'll ask a little bit here. [SPEAKER_06]: The Ralloy species made first contact with the [SPEAKER_07]: So let's think about this in terms of like putting humanity in their shoes, like think about our own world, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Imagine next year, we are learning about there's another intelligent alien species who finds us, and hey, guess what, we're extremely lucky, because [SPEAKER_07]: they found us and they are pacifistic, it's in their diplomatic, they're basically the assari and they want to welcome us in with open arms and there's big parties and it's great and like we're like man we thought that was going to go way worse but it didn't um and then like a year later we learned that oh by the way there's this other like super ancient alien race that comes through every fifty thousand years and wipes literally
[SPEAKER_07]: I think humanity would do the same exact thing. [SPEAKER_07]: Like, I think humanity would be like, nope, we're out, see ya. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I agree. [SPEAKER_06]: I think that we would do the exact same thing. [SPEAKER_06]: If we know that one of the ways she safeguard ourselves is to destroy it and make it look like we are not as smart or not as advanced as we currently are, absolutely.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, we're big dumb, you don't wanna kill us. [SPEAKER_07]: Um, because I can just see the, the, the pro human arguments of like, we just met these people. [SPEAKER_07]: We don't have anything to do with this, like, count us out. [SPEAKER_07]: See you. [SPEAKER_06]: And I think it would be kind of, well, okay.
[SPEAKER_06]: So if we're also following along the Mass Effect timeline of the Reapers were already aware of humans as species and now they're just doing their second pass through, gosh, guys. [SPEAKER_06]: Guys are a little bit behind schedule. [SPEAKER_06]: You didn't get to where we thought you would be, you know?
[SPEAKER_07]: Come on, do something. [SPEAKER_07]: I still think that, like, so we don't know [SPEAKER_07]: if this plan worked right we don't know if the reapers actually did wipe out the rolloi or did land on turbess right and they don't have any they don't have any colonies it's just turbess so if the plan did work is it possible that the rolloi would come out post mass effect three as like one of the most unscathed civilizations [SPEAKER_06]: I think so, yeah, because if we see them in the next game, they weren't attacked.
[SPEAKER_06]: They didn't lose anybody. [SPEAKER_06]: They still have their entire planet in tact. [SPEAKER_07]: And they haven't as effective for a mix. [SPEAKER_06]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_06]: And you know, you could have spent all that downtime during Mass Effect 3 reading, researching, learning all the things, developing your own technology around what you were already given.
[SPEAKER_07]: Man, can you imagine the resentment from the rest of the races that did have to battle the reapers, that did lose entire cities, that watched their friends become husks, and the resentment of then interacting with the rolloie when they peek their beaks out of their hide holes and go, oh, it's safe to come out now.
[SPEAKER_07]: hey well you know like they seem like a pretty nice species on app so it seems like maybe they would volunteer to like help rebuild and be like look we've got these with uh ships that we've been working on we still have mass-fect physics will help how we can but can you imagine the resentment from like the turians and the crogan and the humans being like where were [SPEAKER_06]: nice condor reference there.
[SPEAKER_07]: I like that. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes. [SPEAKER_06]: I like that a lot. [SPEAKER_06]: I definitely can see that. [SPEAKER_06]: And also, if the yag truly are the next species that we're supposed to be uplifted, you know, why weren't they out there helping? [SPEAKER_06]: And so I could see that there would be a lot of resentment.
[SPEAKER_06]: It just really has to be about what the Rallow ain't doing next. [SPEAKER_06]: If they try to swoop in and become a power house on their own because they can because they don't have depleted resources, then who knows? [SPEAKER_06]: Maybe they're the next bad guys. [SPEAKER_07]: swooping is bad.
[SPEAKER_07]: So just want to throw that out there. [SPEAKER_07]: But that would be a pretty ambitious move from a species that like thus far has not seemed that ambitious and has seemed rather pacifistic. [SPEAKER_07]: the other alternative is that we get to the next mass effect, which is presumably a sequel, and we learn that the Raoloi have just been obliterated.
[SPEAKER_07]: They're gone, like that the plans and work and the Reaper's killed them all. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that is also a major possibility. [SPEAKER_07]: Or maybe a few survived, you know, like not many. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, less than the drill population, um, that could also be, you know, if they decide that to rest was attacked and destroyed, it would just be, you know, we don't want another alien species that has to be in an environmental suit the whole time, uh, we don't want that to be there.
[SPEAKER_06]: But I think it would be really pretty to bring somebody feathered into the galaxy. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah, I also want to see different kind of aliens, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Like, you know, I think as long as we have like the same races that we've already seen, I think we're good with like the the bipedal humanoid form, it races like art wise.
[SPEAKER_07]: I would like to see more weird shit. [SPEAKER_07]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_07]: I want to see the bird people who have actual wings. [SPEAKER_07]: I want to see more people like Like the walking gorilla tags of the elk or or you know, I want to see more things that are alien. [SPEAKER_07]: That'd be cool.
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I think that the yag is definitely going to be, it'll be interesting because you know, they, I don't know if they always walk up right, they are, they have the capability of being on all fours. [SPEAKER_06]: So there's that, but still kind of other than their faces, their bodies still look kind of normal, very gorilla like also.
[SPEAKER_07]: Very much middle-aged dad who hangs out at the sports bar a lot. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: I'll have the 18 wings. [SPEAKER_07]: They got that kind of beer gut going on. [SPEAKER_07]: And that attitude as well. [SPEAKER_07]: Definitely from Texas. [SPEAKER_06]: They would eat the bird wings of the riding.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: So let's hope the rolloi do not try to make contact with the yog. [SPEAKER_07]: That would not go well. [SPEAKER_07]: read. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: All right. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, I think that's all we got for this week. [SPEAKER_07]: Genesis. [SPEAKER_07]: Thank you for doing the heavy lifting for the prep on this one.
[SPEAKER_07]: This has been a really fun episode to talk about. [SPEAKER_07]: I only wish we had more lore behind the Railway. [SPEAKER_06]: we always want more lore like that's what we crave is more lore and hopefully we do get it in the next game or even like a little comic, a little something, let us know what's going on with the bird voice.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yes, bird person. [SPEAKER_07]: Alright, oh and that's the other point though we forgot to mention we don't learn anything. [SPEAKER_07]: about how many genders there are in Ralloy biology, like you know how it's an ongoing joke with the volus, the volus gender differentiation that we don't get any anyway, we don't have any inkling about whether or not the Ralloy or mono-gendered like the assari or dual-gendered or however many genders there might be a Ralloy, we don't know, we don't know anything about how they reproduce, we don't know, [SPEAKER_07]: Alright, well with that, I think we're gonna head out, but everyone can tune in next week.
[SPEAKER_07]: We should have the Paul Grayson part two episode where we cover Paul Grayson's appearance and the finale of his arc in Mass Effect Redemption. [SPEAKER_07]: But until next time Specters, we should go. [SPEAKER_07]: Thanks for listening to the Mass Effect War text.
