[SPEAKER_09]: I'm Commander Shepherd, and this is my favorite lorecast on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: Welcome to the Mass Effect lorecast. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm in seven the legend. [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm Genesis. [SPEAKER_05]: Join us. [SPEAKER_06]: As we explore along tides of light. [SPEAKER_06]: And through sholes of dust.

[SPEAKER_06]: To see where this lore began. [SPEAKER_05]: And consider where it may go. [SPEAKER_06]: Specters welcome back. [SPEAKER_06]: It is I in seven the legend your host and joining me as always is the wonderful Genesis Today we've got an intriguing perhaps epic episode of the Mass Effect Lordcast for you Genesis you were just telling me that you did a dice roll to see how this episode would go [SPEAKER_05]: You know what?

[SPEAKER_05]: I did. [SPEAKER_05]: I rolled the D20 and it was a Nat 20. [SPEAKER_05]: So I am pretty excited about how this is going to go. [SPEAKER_05]: I also really can't wait to dive into the nuance of this because I feel like we might have some different opinions. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, all right, maybe some heated debate, some spirited conversation, I'm down.

[SPEAKER_06]: So this is gonna be part two of our episodes on the virtual aliens. [SPEAKER_06]: If you guys listened to episode one, you might remember last week we left off talking about how the virtual aliens needed help from the Citadel because their power reserves were dwindling. [SPEAKER_06]: And last we knew they were at 4% and if they go to zero, [SPEAKER_06]: like a billion people, right?

[SPEAKER_06]: A billion virtual aliens inside that computer program, they die. [SPEAKER_06]: So, a big, big problem we also had hackers, like independent hackers who tried to break into the main frame and they actually got in, but then they like spent so much time there that their real bodies became mush, like not not actual mush, but like their brains were scrambled eggs as how it's put.

[SPEAKER_06]: And so, yeah, not not a great ending for them, but we pick up with another dispatch from server-stately news. [SPEAKER_06]: And it says, the saga of the alien quote unquote ghost ship has come to a surprising end. [SPEAKER_06]: And we still got another part 3 after this episode. [SPEAKER_06]: How is it an end?

[SPEAKER_06]: I don't think it really is. [SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: And it says earlier today reports surface that the Citadel Council was prepared to rule against saving the ship. [SPEAKER_06]: Fearing its AI system was sophisticated enough to pose a security threat of unknown dimensions.

[SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: Let's pause there. [SPEAKER_06]: That's probably a reasonable fear to have, especially after the Battle of the Citadel, and we brought this up in a last week that there would be a lot of apprehension among people, right after sovereign and Seren and the GIF. [SPEAKER_06]: invaded and almost destroyed the Citadel.

[SPEAKER_06]: And as far as the official story goes, it was seren spitting of the Gaff to do so. [SPEAKER_06]: So anti-AI sentiment makes a lot of sense. [SPEAKER_06]: Probably a really, it's a good time in terms of a gap between galactic like crisis, but it's a horrible time in terms of PR for the virtual aliens to show up and ask for help through an AI.

[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and this is also the same time frame that the Ralloy are making their way to the Citadel for the first time. [SPEAKER_05]: So this is two species being introduced to the Citadel in a very close time frame. [SPEAKER_05]: So there's also the fact that there are two new things going on.

[SPEAKER_05]: But the security threat from the extremely sophisticated AI is definitely a lot larger than bird people. [SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: I still think that they could probably help them without letting the AI like access critical systems on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: There's probably some kind of medium there.

[SPEAKER_06]: But perhaps the counselors are afraid of the political fallout from helping them, even if it didn't pose a threat to the Citadel. [SPEAKER_05]: As far as I know, we still don't get a definitive answer about what the actual power they require and how they're going to do this, like how is the power exchange going to happen, so we don't know those answers.

[SPEAKER_06]: Now, well, maybe we will, after we uncover a little bit more from these news dispatches. [SPEAKER_06]: The Cerberus Daily News dispatch continues saying, in response, Chief Scientist Jordan Dett Wilder inserted himself, and to the virtual alien world, to warn its citizens of their civilizations imminent end.

[SPEAKER_06]: He returned one minute later, or you remember the time dilation thing. [SPEAKER_06]: I think the ratio was something like 277,000 to one, right, in terms of the seconds that passed. [SPEAKER_06]: So yeah, so he returns a minute later, let's do some quick math to figure out how long he was actually in there, or does it say it?

[SPEAKER_06]: Here in the, it does, okay, all right. [SPEAKER_06]: Uh, so I guess I should just continue reading literally one sentence later. [SPEAKER_06]: He returned one minute later apparently equal to half a year within the accelerated timeline of the alien world, bringing a treaty offer from its inhabitants.

[SPEAKER_06]: At that point, details turn sketchy. [SPEAKER_06]: One inside source claims the virtual aliens offered scientific advancements far beyond anything we have, and return for assistance. [SPEAKER_06]: A veil of secrecy was immediately erected, gating. [SPEAKER_06]: With Citadel intelligence agencies classifying the matter as top secret.

[SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so they probably did accept the offer, but they don't want people to know what kind of technology they did get. [SPEAKER_06]: That's what it sounds like to me. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, this is where the story starts to get really juicy and really, really interesting. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, so now we know for a certain that within very limited little timeframes, a minute, maybe a few more couple hours that they can survive, especially because Jason, Jordan is aware of what he's getting into.

[SPEAKER_05]: When in completely blind had no idea about the time dilation, did had no clue what was going on and probably were unable to fully reintegrate with their body. [SPEAKER_05]: Jordan, on the other hand, is fully aware of what he's getting into, is fully capable of going in for a minute, interacting for the six months time frame that's in there.

[SPEAKER_05]: and then coming back out. [SPEAKER_05]: And so that was one of the things that we were questioning last week was whether or not somebody would be able to willingly and capability go in there for a short time bursts to interact with this world. [SPEAKER_05]: And then he comes out and has a treaty, something that could work.

[SPEAKER_05]: And now the council definitely wants to look into it further. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm getting an idea, and the council could very well, like if they struck a deal for some of the greatest minds of the Citadel species to be able to come and go from the virtual world at their leisure, that the time dilation might be such an enormous benefit to working out some of the Milky Way's real problems.

[SPEAKER_05]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, could you imagine if they were given the plans to the catalyst if we could have made it better? [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, but then again, the Citadel species are going to be extremely, extremely has sent to trust them after the reapers invade.

[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Like, they're not gonna, they're not gonna trust them. [SPEAKER_06]: But the, I mean, think about like, you know, you have a deadline for next week, right, in our own world, yes. [SPEAKER_06]: You could wait until like three minutes before the deadline. [SPEAKER_06]: And then go into their world, do like exponentially better job than you would have with one week and our time.

[SPEAKER_06]: And then come back and be like, yep, done. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, definitely for maybe like a writing assignment or getting, you know, data crunch and validation and all that stuff I could definitely see how the virtual world would be a tool that could be used. [SPEAKER_06]: I wonder if people when they go in and out, obviously their body is an aging because their bodies are moving, but are they mentally aging as much because they're going in there, they're living that amount of time.

[SPEAKER_05]: That's a very good question, and I think we get to learn a little bit more about what it's like to be in the virtual world. [SPEAKER_06]: Alright, so a little inside baseball. [SPEAKER_06]: Genesis has read through a little bit of this. [SPEAKER_06]: I am this is blind for me, so I don't know this.

[SPEAKER_06]: You guys are getting my honest reactions. [SPEAKER_06]: in real time. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so that dispatch from server-stately news, it ends by saying rumors now have Jordan Dettwiler embarking on a council sanctioned mission into the virtual world to make diplomatic contact. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so that's a little bit different than what he did before just to warn them.

[SPEAKER_05]: So now the council is asking him to go in and make contact with leaders, predominant figures and figure out a way that everything can be done safely. [SPEAKER_05]: Because there is still the threat of the very, very extremely powerful AI, there is a toll on our energy resources and ways that [SPEAKER_05]: make this all work out in the end.

[SPEAKER_06]: One more thing before we move on to the next dispatch. [SPEAKER_06]: Imagine for some reason or another that it would not scramble your brains into eggs by spending what would be years inside the virtual world. [SPEAKER_06]: Imagine you spend 40, 50 years in there and you've lived your whole life in [SPEAKER_06]: you've gone through everything, you've, you know, met someone, maybe you fell in love with them, and you got married, you had kids, you grew old, and then you come back.

[SPEAKER_06]: How jarring would that be? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, see, this is where it gets really interesting, the idea of having a second life. [SPEAKER_05]: the idea of being able to go through and holding all the memories that you had and then leading an entire, you know, like you said, another 40, 50 years within this virtual world and returning back out and only a couple of days have passed.

[SPEAKER_05]: Not only do you have all of those memories that you've [SPEAKER_05]: They don't exist. [SPEAKER_05]: They don't exist in the real world. [SPEAKER_05]: They only exist in that virtual world. [SPEAKER_05]: And what we don't know is how, okay, so I, Jason Jordan pops in there for a few, for a few of his real world minutes and lives in that virtual world.

[SPEAKER_05]: And then comes back out and then goes back in at a later time. [SPEAKER_05]: What another 60, 70 years has passed? [SPEAKER_05]: And so, like, does he have to reform connections? [SPEAKER_05]: Does he have to, you know, establish himself again? [SPEAKER_05]: Or is he now built into the lore that is this?

[SPEAKER_05]: Is he an ancient history? [SPEAKER_06]: Were they waiting on the second coming of Jordan? [SPEAKER_05]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_06]: Jordan said he'd be back guys, and I believe him. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, we need to believe him. [SPEAKER_06]: No, he forgot about us. [SPEAKER_06]: We must move on Okay, and it's been like so many years in there, right?

[SPEAKER_06]: And yeah [SPEAKER_06]: Wow. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but does the AI remember and understand this time dilation? [SPEAKER_05]: So like they said like we talked about last time the citizens review the AI some kind of God a deity their true leader. [SPEAKER_05]: And so if the AI was telling them yes, this is how the time works on the outside world.

[SPEAKER_05]: And so you know for a fact that Jordan is returning. [SPEAKER_05]: and how much mythos would be built around that? [SPEAKER_06]: I'm getting so much ancient aliens vibes from this right now. [SPEAKER_06]: Like, I just, like, if I were to smoke a joint, which I'm not saying that I do, but if I were to smoke a joint, [SPEAKER_06]: I would be so heavily inclined to look into this and go, like, what if that's just like, what our actual God is, man?

[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I will share this non-existent joint with you and go, like, yeah, maybe God just isn't AI ruling everything from not not not sitting on clouds, man. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, no, but like seriously like outside of our dimensions right existing outside of time and space.

[SPEAKER_06]: That's why You know second kind of like I think there's some evidence inside you know the the Torah the Bible The Quran that that's actually addresses time dilation and how time is different for God Then it is for anyway. [SPEAKER_06]: This is not a religious locust so [SPEAKER_06]: Why don't you save us, pun intended, Genesis, and give us the next server stately news dispatch.

[SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely, because we all know that Jen plus time dilation is a bad situation. [SPEAKER_05]: We get our next entry here, and it says the famed virtual ghost ship is back in the news today after a reporting sighting of MIT Exobiologists Jordan.wiler. [SPEAKER_06]: Stop right there. [SPEAKER_06]: So I'm just imagining like a picture of him walking like big foot.

[SPEAKER_05]: Do the what's he's the sesquatch sighting? [SPEAKER_05]: Yes. [SPEAKER_05]: Also, I am totally thinking of paparazzi. [SPEAKER_05]: Like I want to see a vortja paparazzi real bad. [SPEAKER_05]: Like them trying to hold a camera in front of their face. [SPEAKER_05]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_05]: This follows weeks of rumors that Debtweiler had embarked on a diplomatic mission into a virtual alien world that he discovered on the ship's supercomputer.

[SPEAKER_05]: It is now understood that Debtweiler's body remained in a controlled coma while his consciousness [SPEAKER_05]: However, multiple eyewitnesses on the Citadel claim to have seen Deutweiler visiting the Presidium recently. [SPEAKER_05]: A council spokesperson would only say, quote, we do not comment on internal Citadel matters, unquote.

[SPEAKER_05]: This fueled speculation that Deutweiler was indeed acting on behalf of the council [SPEAKER_06]: Okay so now basically this dispatch is telling us like from the public's perspective. [SPEAKER_06]: what is going on. [SPEAKER_06]: And it sounds like the Citadel is not being the council is not being transparent and forthcoming because in that previous dispatch, we kind of already had reports that all of this was confirmed.

[SPEAKER_06]: But now it kind of sounds like there's so many details and rumors floating around that people don't really know. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and so they're trying to figure out what is going on. [SPEAKER_05]: You know, they're told that Debtwiler is inside the supercomputer talking with everybody and learning about this virtual world.

[SPEAKER_05]: But then they're also seeing him walking around the Presidium. [SPEAKER_05]: So which is it? [SPEAKER_05]: Is he in a controlled coma? [SPEAKER_05]: Or is he walking around the Citadel? [SPEAKER_06]: They gave the aliens his body, didn't they? [SPEAKER_06]: I mean, don't don't tell me whether or not I'm right or wrong because again, like I haven't read through this yet, but you have, but like that's just immediately where my mind is going like, okay, so he is technically in the virtual world, but his body is not and someone else is in his body, oh boy, okay, all right, I think I'm pretty sure that that's where this is going.

[SPEAKER_06]: I've, I've watched enough sci-fi, um, oh, man. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay. [SPEAKER_06]: So, I got it. [SPEAKER_06]: I got to ask then, like, doesn't Jordan have anyone who loves or cares about him, who would have caught on to this? [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Actually, he does. [SPEAKER_04]: He has a daughter.

[SPEAKER_06]: Okay. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm guessing an adult daughter. [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, and yeah, no, it's not like some little toddler trying to run around the citadel asking questions, but no, he has a daughter who's very vocal about wanting her dad back. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_06]: All right.

[SPEAKER_06]: So that takes us to this next server-stailing news dispatch where I see this is basically his daughter speaking out. [SPEAKER_06]: And on usual twist today in the case of MIT Exobiologist Jordan Dettwiler acting on recent rumors that he was seen visiting the Citadel Dettwiler's daughter, Kyra traveled to the galactic hub and demanded a meeting with him.

[SPEAKER_06]: Although she signed a confidentiality agreement always a sign of, you know, transparency and good doing and nothing a miss. [SPEAKER_06]: Miss Deweiler claims she was repeatedly denied access to her father. [SPEAKER_06]: Quote, they only let me see my dad after I raised hell about it, she said.

[SPEAKER_06]: Quote, I can be prosecuted for speaking to the media, but I don't care. [SPEAKER_06]: He's in danger. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so she signed a confidentiality agreement saying that she wouldn't talk to the media. [SPEAKER_06]: She then goes and talks to the media about something that the government is trying to keep harsh.

[SPEAKER_06]: I think that she needs to hire some private security because this is like something where they would totally send a specter and to make it look like an accident. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, it had to be a damn good specter to be able to make it look like a invincible enough accident because there are so many eyes on this.

[SPEAKER_05]: You know, the public is following this story. [SPEAKER_05]: The council knows about it. [SPEAKER_05]: Everybody on the Citadel knows about this alien vi race or AI race that they're trying to save, [SPEAKER_05]: they all know Jordan and now Cara is here speaking out about it if she were to accidentally disappear there's there'd be no question about it [SPEAKER_06]: Well, sometimes that's the, that is the power move, sometimes it is, you know, sometimes governments intentionally disappear dissenters with plausible deniability, even if it's flimsy at that, because it is the power move to show the public.

[SPEAKER_06]: we can do what we want. [SPEAKER_06]: Now I'm not saying that they're going to do this because that would be actually kind of a little shocking for the council to do so. [SPEAKER_06]: But, you know, kind of a joke, kind of not maybe it's a good idea for Cairo to post on the extra net. [SPEAKER_06]: I am not feeling suicidal.

[SPEAKER_06]: I have locked all my windows and I just got my car in for maintenance. [SPEAKER_06]: You know, maybe that's a good idea to post something like that. [SPEAKER_06]: I don't know where have we seen that in our own world, recently. [SPEAKER_06]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_06]: Council representatives continue to refuse to comment on the matter.

[SPEAKER_06]: Always assign that nothing wrong is going on, right? [SPEAKER_05]: yeah yeah no this is totally transparency within our government uh yeah yeah that sounds sounds right um yeah but i don't know i think that if if anybody were to go after kira it would it would cause more problems than it would cause solutions silencing her just means that other people are going to uprising her place going with the hell happened here uh so [SPEAKER_06]: Man, I'm starting to wonder, what did the virtual aliens promise the Citadel Council?

[SPEAKER_06]: You know, what technology was it? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, either technology or access to their world, because like you said, it could be a really useful tool to help manipulate that time dilation to help solve problems. [SPEAKER_05]: And especially on a world that's already been around, let's see, it's been, the ship has been around for 8,000 real world years, which means like some billion level, [SPEAKER_05]: of years within their own world, they've solved a lot of issues.

[SPEAKER_05]: They've solved a lot of problems in, like, socially, economically, all that. [SPEAKER_05]: And it reminds me of, you know, like, other time-travel media that I've read and things like that, where we've solved a lot of the issues and don't really have war and trying to achieve that in our own world.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, yeah, we're kind of perfect. [SPEAKER_06]: So, [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, so I don't know, um, I also wonder whether or not the Citadel Council is kind of trying to keep their own individual governments on a wear. [SPEAKER_06]: like the they're trying to keep Thessia unaware. [SPEAKER_06]: They're trying to keep this layering union unaware.

[SPEAKER_06]: They're trying to keep the alliance unaware. [SPEAKER_06]: They're trying to keep that terrain hierarchy unaware because each of these different civilizations in addition to this Citadel regulations on AI. [SPEAKER_06]: each of these civilizations has also been bound by the Citadel regulations on AI.

[SPEAKER_06]: And so the political fallout, if it were to come about that the council itself is violating their own AI regulations. [SPEAKER_06]: The fallout that could come from that, with the amount of different species saying, well, if the council is not abiding by their own laws, why should I? [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I don't know if this would actually break any council lots regarding AI because the council laws are all about creating adapting and using AI for your own personal gain.

[SPEAKER_05]: This already exists. [SPEAKER_05]: No, but none of the council races created this AI. [SPEAKER_05]: And so, whether we're interacting with it, I don't know if interacting with an AI is what is against the law, but I think it's just creating and manufacturing it. [SPEAKER_06]: That's a good point.

[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know verbatim what the actual Citadel treaty on AI says, right? [SPEAKER_06]: I don't have to review that. [SPEAKER_06]: But I also think that perhaps what's more important than the letter of the law is the perception of the law. [SPEAKER_05]: There is that for sure, but I think that if it was brought up in that, you know, we can't change the fact that they're here.

[SPEAKER_05]: And so we should, the law should be adapted to now fit this and incorporate these people into it. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: It should always be changing. [SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: Well, that is a good point for us to go over to the mid-break for, so let's go over.

[SPEAKER_06]: We've got a couple of comments that I want to point out. [SPEAKER_06]: Maybe some reviews. [SPEAKER_06]: I haven't checked. [SPEAKER_06]: And we've got a couple of voice lines and a new patron to shout out. [SPEAKER_06]: So with that, we will be right back. [SPEAKER_03]: We have the bacon.

[SPEAKER_03]: We have beer. [SPEAKER_03]: The foods of my people. [SPEAKER_02]: Young men have funny ideas of what a star you're like. [SPEAKER_02]: I blame the extra net and computer games. [SPEAKER_09]: Rex, Shepherd, Grant, Shepard, Rex. [SPEAKER_06]: Right. [SPEAKER_06]: Here we are in the middle of the show.

[SPEAKER_06]: This is where we read out your reviews that you've left us. [SPEAKER_06]: By the way, those help us so immensely in terms of getting discovered on different platforms like Spotify and Apple podcasts or wherever you listen to your podcast or YouTube, the reviews, the comments, the ratings, all of those things help us immensely.

[SPEAKER_06]: And they don't cost anything to do. [SPEAKER_06]: So if you listen to this every week, please leave us a review. [SPEAKER_06]: put in some constructive feedback too. [SPEAKER_06]: I mean, we're not, we're not immune from that. [SPEAKER_06]: No one is. [SPEAKER_06]: But yeah, any kind of comments from you guys also, like, sometimes make our day, right?

[SPEAKER_06]: So we have some comments from the most recent episode that we put up. [SPEAKER_06]: Who were the virtual aliens? [SPEAKER_06]: This one's on Spotify, these comments. [SPEAKER_06]: One from Terry Bigrig. [SPEAKER_06]: who writes, long time listen, or first time commenting. [SPEAKER_06]: I listen via antenna pod, not a big Spotify person, but I was bored at work and wanted to make a quick comment about the show today.

[SPEAKER_06]: Love the show both of you do a great job, and I enjoy the deep dives into the lore of the game. [SPEAKER_06]: About the virtual aliens intelligence test, I know it's a trope of some sci-fi, but the only place that springs to mind is from the Babylon 5 episode, The Long Dark, that season 3 episode 4.

[SPEAKER_06]: Okay, I've never watched Babylon 5, but I've heard it's an amazing show. [SPEAKER_05]: So I have watched Babylon 5. [SPEAKER_05]: It was one of the shows that I grew up watching, and then my husband started rewatching the series and we kind of watched it together. [SPEAKER_05]: As kind of a bedtime show, so I fell asleep a lot.

[SPEAKER_05]: So I haven't recently rewatched it. [SPEAKER_05]: But I do know that they touched on a lot of things that we will see in Mass Effect because it was all about a ship that was very citadel like it was a cultural hub for any and all races to come to. [SPEAKER_05]: And then, of course, you know, there were wars and fights and then it was like, oh, why are the humans running this ship and not, you know, like a true alien council?

[SPEAKER_05]: So there's a lot of drama and Babylon 5, but I don't remember that specific episode, but I could very easily go back and watch it just to kind of compare it. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I'm definitely intrigued. [SPEAKER_06]: So thank you for bringing that to our attention, Terry. [SPEAKER_06]: And thanks for making this Spotify account like just to leave that comment.

[SPEAKER_06]: That's very nice of you. [SPEAKER_06]: And we also have one I have to read this one. [SPEAKER_06]: It's from Elcore, Aradica, Infusius. [SPEAKER_04]: I love it. [SPEAKER_04]: I love it. [SPEAKER_06]: Wow. [SPEAKER_06]: Blushing. [SPEAKER_06]: I've never seen quite a name like that. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, L-Core, Veronica enthusiast, Triple E, Triple E writes, love the show, great topic choice, a lot they could do with this threadline.

[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: It's true. [SPEAKER_05]: There could be so much that you could do with this. [SPEAKER_05]: If only, you know, this was a race that we discovered after the Reaper Wars, not right before the invasion truly began. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: Well, thank you for the nice comments, guys. [SPEAKER_06]: Elcore, Rodigan Thusius. [SPEAKER_06]: I wonder how many different shows you leave comments on under that name. [SPEAKER_06]: but I would maybe it's just us, maybe we're special, maybe you get around, I don't know, so I'll see.

[SPEAKER_06]: But anyway, Jen, we skipped a week where I was supposed to have a voice line for you, and I didn't, so now I have two. [SPEAKER_06]: And now I figured since we're doing two at the same time and not going to have you try and guess two different scenes. [SPEAKER_06]: These are both from the same scene, but I feel like they are challenging enough that even though I've told you that and even though you'll listen knowing they're both from the same scene, I don't think it's really going to help.

[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_04]: It's a little bit of a challenging one. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, so, all right, here's the first one, which I've sent Genesis to file only with the tagline. [SPEAKER_06]: People could get hurt. [SPEAKER_06]: So here's the first one. [SPEAKER_06]: Let's give it a listen.

[SPEAKER_07]: If we don't think about the needs of the whole crew, people could get hurt, even geewed. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, let's listen to that one one more time, listen closely. [SPEAKER_07]: If we don't think about the needs of the whole crew, people could get hurt, [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, keep that one in mind, because we have another voice line.

[SPEAKER_06]: This one, the file name is Tubes. [SPEAKER_06]: I sent it to Genesis, it's just named Tubes. [SPEAKER_06]: Give it a listen. [SPEAKER_01]: I watched them die. [SPEAKER_01]: They were processed, rendered down into some kind of raw, genetic paste, and pumped through these tubes. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, haunting.

[SPEAKER_06]: Genesis, you got an idea? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the first one was Tally. [SPEAKER_05]: The second one was Dr. Chak was a Mass Effect to suicide mission. [SPEAKER_05]: After the fact, and you were back on the norm, no, wait a minute. [SPEAKER_05]: No, because the first one, these two lines happened immediately after each other.

[SPEAKER_05]: or they're just related to the same thing. [SPEAKER_06]: Right, they're in the same scene, the same cut scene. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, then it's after you rescue Chak was from the tubes in the suicide mission. [SPEAKER_06]: Fine, Lancer. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't like that, but yeah, nope, that's what I'm going with.

[SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so I'm a little bit of a stinker, and I threw you a curve ball because this is actually from the dreams in Mass Effect 3. [SPEAKER_06]: These are some of the voice lines that are being whispered in the background. [SPEAKER_04]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that was about bit of a dick move a bit of a dick move, but I was like, you know what if you do listen let like if you go to the the scenes and you do listen closely You can kind of hear that so if anyone was listening to this by the way I did this for our listeners, too.

[SPEAKER_06]: If any of our listeners You were you know listening along to that part and you got it right Props because I would not I would not have gotten that right [SPEAKER_06]: I would have gone that very wrong. [SPEAKER_06]: So, anyway, if you did get to write you outsmarted both the hosts here and you can now take over the show.

[SPEAKER_06]: That's how it goes. [SPEAKER_05]: That was payback for me playing a car flying from Star Wars, from Knights of the Old Republic. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and that's true, and that's true. [SPEAKER_06]: All right, well with that, we do want to shout out our new Patrons Shelby. [SPEAKER_06]: Thank you for signing up Shelby, and we shout out our Tier V Patrons.

[SPEAKER_06]: William Superfly 440, Red Trobat, Lieutenant Tussino, Kira C, Edboy, and Dave. [SPEAKER_06]: Thank you all so much for your continued support of the show. [SPEAKER_06]: It makes it possible because we don't want to rely purely on advertisers, and we like you guys a little bit more, but just don't tell them, okay?

[SPEAKER_06]: All right, let's get back to the rest of the show. [SPEAKER_08]: After time adrift among open stars, a long tides of light and through shows of dust, I will return to where I began. [SPEAKER_00]: Celery and reproduction different, very little sex-trade. [SPEAKER_00]: If intended to try human, would try you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, my big crease. [SPEAKER_06]: All right, here we are back in the second half of the show. [SPEAKER_06]: Now, Genesis, we left it off with this question over what has happened to Jordan Deadwiler and his daughter going to the media violating her confidentiality agreement she signed, apparently agreeing to secrecy on behalf of the Citadel government.

[SPEAKER_06]: What's going on now? [SPEAKER_05]: All right. [SPEAKER_05]: So we have one from GBC News. [SPEAKER_05]: They covered it before Citadel or Cerberus Daily News got it. [SPEAKER_05]: Kira Dettwiler, daughter of famed MIT Exo Biologist, Jordan Dettwiler has released a statement to GBC News, alleging the Citadel Council is covering up her father's deteriorating medical condition.

[SPEAKER_06]: Ah, I didn't think about this. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay. [SPEAKER_06]: That would make sense. [SPEAKER_06]: He is becoming mush. [SPEAKER_05]: If he's spending a lot of time in the virtual world, and we know what happened to the hackers, for sure. [SPEAKER_05]: But he didn't even know who I was.

[SPEAKER_05]: His own daughter. [SPEAKER_05]: I got five minutes to speak with him [SPEAKER_05]: Council representatives declined to comment on the situation. [SPEAKER_05]: A few links speculation that Dr. Dattwiler was profoundly changed by his visit to the virtual world inside of a Darryl Express craft.

[SPEAKER_05]: We have a comment here of quote, silence is a terrible answer, wrote columnist, early den continues to say, the public doesn't know much, but it knows that anything related to AI or synthetic life is something to fear. [SPEAKER_05]: Refusing to comment leads us all to assume the worst. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, but have you seen the stock market on Elium?

[SPEAKER_06]: It's over 50,000. [SPEAKER_05]: That's... Oh man, okay. [SPEAKER_06]: So, this is, she's right. [SPEAKER_06]: Early Dan is absolutely right from a PR perspective. [SPEAKER_06]: Silence is the worst fucking choice that they could have made. [SPEAKER_06]: Because it's like almost an admission of guilt, but they don't know what your guilty of.

[SPEAKER_06]: So people's minds are going to go to the worst possible thing. [SPEAKER_05]: absolutely and especially relating to AI or synthetic life, you know, because we, the, the galaxy has so much history with the death that it makes it very, very scary. [SPEAKER_05]: And now this new form, this even more advanced form, is showing up.

[SPEAKER_05]: Everybody's going to assume the worst that this is another death invasion onto the citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: And it's also, like, I can see why the Citadel Council is going this whole no comment route because their lawyers are probably advising them to not comment, but lawyers don't always have the best PR, by the way, that's just, they can, they can shield you from legal consequences if they're good at what they're doing, but yeah, this is more of a PR matter than it is a legal matter at this point.

[SPEAKER_06]: Apparently Kyra did meet with her father and he is alive so his like his brain isn't totally scrambled eggs like those other hackers were meaning that she met with him he didn't know who she was and then he got whisked away after five minutes. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah [SPEAKER_05]: After a five-minute conversation, it proves, yes, hey, I am alive.

[SPEAKER_05]: I can move around, walk around the Citadel. [SPEAKER_05]: I can come and meet with people. [SPEAKER_05]: I can talk and communicate with you, but whether or not my brain is able to fully comprehend everything that's going on around me, or recognize the people around me is a different question.

[SPEAKER_06]: Shh, what if he didn't recognize Cairo? [SPEAKER_06]: because it's not him, man, like I'm saying seriously like the more we go into this the more I feel like my conspiracy theory was right. [SPEAKER_06]: So I guess we'll see out and by the way in universe conspiracy theorists must be having a heyday with this one.

[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, there's there's columns and websites and extra net forums dedicated to what is going on in this. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Wow. [SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: So we do get another update. [SPEAKER_06]: Council spokesman responds to cover up allegations.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: About time. [SPEAKER_06]: Little late on that one. [SPEAKER_06]: Here's the news update. [SPEAKER_06]: It says a firer has erupt if you're, how do you say that? [SPEAKER_06]: I actually don't know how to say that word. [SPEAKER_05]: Here. [SPEAKER_05]: No, don't like that for me it a fervor yeah, well, fervor is a different word anyway if you are a lot [SPEAKER_06]: read your butt, respond to your pronunciation with nine, so a fur has erupted.

[SPEAKER_06]: I know I'm mispronouncing that, by the way. [SPEAKER_06]: Has erupted over the recent GBC news conversation with Kyra, Debt Wilder, daughter of noted MIT exobiologist Jordan Debt Wilder. [SPEAKER_06]: Miss Debt Wilder alleged the Citadel Council is covering up her father's deteriorating, deteriorating medical condition, triggering a media backlash from all quarters of the galaxy.

[SPEAKER_06]: In response, the council held a hastily arranged press conference to manage damage control, which spokesman Anton Gailer said, quote, acting on behalf of the council, Jordan Dett Wiler did indeed visit the virtual alien world he discovered. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes, Dr. Dett Wilder was seen on the Precidium recently, but this was his body, not his mind.

[SPEAKER_06]: BOOM, I knew it. [SPEAKER_06]: I knew it. [SPEAKER_06]: I'll already, by the way, already this press conference, more helpful than like all of the press conferences I ever went to as a journalist. [SPEAKER_06]: Like. [SPEAKER_06]: They've already confirmed way more information than any press conference ever vintu.

[SPEAKER_06]: So this is the most unrealistic part of this so far, but anyway. [SPEAKER_05]: Clear valid statements. [SPEAKER_06]: Yes clear valid factual statements not wrapped in flowery prose and leaving you with a lot of words But not much meaning so All right So he says this was his body not his mind.

[SPEAKER_06]: He has for lack of a better term swapped with an alien consciousness in the virtual world [SPEAKER_06]: This procedure was the most stable way for their ambassador to gain access to our physical universe for diplomatic discussions. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, man, holy shit, the ethical implications of this, a stunned media core quickly erupted with questions, but the council spokesman declined further comment, dude, come on, how are you going to confirm that and walk away?

[SPEAKER_05]: you know that that at least seems realistic but uh so it's like they wanted to say yes this is what's going on but no we're not going to comment on it further this is still it's it's unfolding the story we can't talk more about it oh man huge day for skits of critics [SPEAKER_06]: Like, honestly, the crazy part is that now you have confirmed, like, you've already confirmed it once that it's possible for virtual aliens to swap bodies with someone.

[SPEAKER_06]: How many people are going to wonder, huh? [SPEAKER_06]: My friend was acting a little odd the other day. [SPEAKER_06]: Maybe our virtual aliens swapped bodies with them. [SPEAKER_06]: How many criminals are gonna try and get off on the criminal defensive? [SPEAKER_06]: That wasn't me. [SPEAKER_06]: It was the virtual alien inside my body.

[SPEAKER_04]: Oh god. [SPEAKER_04]: Okay. [SPEAKER_04]: Wow. [SPEAKER_06]: Sorry, officer. [SPEAKER_06]: I'm not the one who broke into that brewery and drank all the beer. [SPEAKER_06]: That was the virtual alien. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, so there would have definitely have to be a lot of legislation and we're not legislation necessarily, but eight tracking system a way to know who actually has access, who could this have potentially happened to?

[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, there's gotta be a way to know who truly is body swapping because it can't, you can't just anybody shouldn't be able just to go in and swap, especially for people who are [SPEAKER_06]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: So. [SPEAKER_05]: And I think it's got to be negotiated on both sides.

[SPEAKER_05]: Not only, yes, I'm willing to quote, lend my body to a virtual alien, but also the the vi group wants to accept my consciousness into the world. [SPEAKER_05]: What if I am? [SPEAKER_05]: convicted serial killer. [SPEAKER_05]: You know, they don't want me running around in there in their world for, uh, unread years.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: That's great point. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Who exactly are we sending? [SPEAKER_06]: So, um, God, I think if I were covering this in a press conference, I might be so stunned that I wouldn't even have time to think of a question before the spokesman walks away.

[SPEAKER_06]: Like the woman was too stunned to [SPEAKER_06]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_06]: What? [SPEAKER_06]: Like, holy cow. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_06]: They basically just confirmed that they're like, okay, with body swapping with AI. [SPEAKER_06]: Right. [SPEAKER_06]: Um, after the Citadel was almost destroyed by an invasion of AI.

[SPEAKER_05]: So far, it's only been just Jordan, no. [SPEAKER_05]: And it was a very specific scenario where he was willing to go into the virtual world. [SPEAKER_05]: And this spokesperson was willing to come back into the real world. [SPEAKER_05]: I think things get a little bit messy once we start opening it up to more people.

[SPEAKER_06]: Right, the fact of the matter is that so far, if they are to be believed that so far, this alone isn't horrible. [SPEAKER_06]: Of course, like you mentioned, it's going to open up legal and ethical implications left and right, but I'm thinking in terms of PR in terms of communication and how the perception is going to be right, there's going to be so many extra net columnists and personalities and talk show hosts who are going to take this and extrapolate it and run with it and [SPEAKER_06]: They're basically, you know, this is going to become like a red scare of the McCarthy era, but for virtual aliens.

[SPEAKER_06]: If they don't contain it and handle it very quickly. [SPEAKER_06]: So that said, where do we go from there? [SPEAKER_05]: Well, just like you are still reeling from this, so it's the scientific world. [SPEAKER_05]: The scientific world is still absorbing the news that an ambassador for my virtual alien civilization is currently visiting the Citadel.

[SPEAKER_05]: an inside-source reveals that during his travels within the virtual civilization, MIT Exobiologist Jordan Deweiler agreed to allow the virtual consciousness of an ambassador sitting in to use his body as a conduit to interact with our physical universe. [SPEAKER_06]: I don't know why I just occurred to me, but why couldn't they have just like brought a device for Ambassador Saigon to like go into, like a laptop, like an iPod, like, no I mean, why do they have to be a physical body?

[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know, probably because I'm just not suspending enough disbelief for fiction, but that's, that's just me being an nerd. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, okay, that actually does bring up a very interesting point because does it have to be something biological, that they inhabit. [SPEAKER_05]: Why couldn't they inhabit an android body, a mech body, something that is, you know, physically, you know, inorganic, does the virtual consciousness of the alien have to inhabit a biological based body.

[SPEAKER_06]: Well, if it did, then how are they living inside that computer? [SPEAKER_06]: Unless... [SPEAKER_06]: Unless there's some like crazy matrix shit going on with bodies as batteries and things, I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: Hmm, I don't like that. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't like the idea of the supercomputer being the matrix.

[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, that's, oh, okay, that's, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think that there's a bunch of bodies on the ship. [SPEAKER_05]: That doesn't make sense. [SPEAKER_05]: Not for 8,000 years. [SPEAKER_05]: The body's done decayed and dead by that. [SPEAKER_06]: Not for 8 billion people. [SPEAKER_06]: One billion, sorry, not 8 billion.

[SPEAKER_06]: One billion, yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, so why couldn't they just use another device? [SPEAKER_06]: Anyway, sorry to interrupt. [SPEAKER_06]: Go ahead. [SPEAKER_05]: It is unclear to what extent Dr. Deathwiler maintains control of his body. [SPEAKER_05]: So that's another thing. [SPEAKER_05]: his consciousness fully gone and out of his body, or is this some kind of like, I can see here and feel everything that's going on.

[SPEAKER_05]: I just no longer have control over anything. [SPEAKER_05]: Is this almost like how we've talked about how indoctrination feels like? [SPEAKER_05]: And that's another level scary. [SPEAKER_06]: Man, and can you imagine how much of a thrill this is for Ambassador Sagan, right? [SPEAKER_06]: Like, he hasn't had a real body perhaps ever at least 8,000 years, if ever.

[SPEAKER_06]: And now Ambassador Sagan gets a real body to move around in the physical organic world. [SPEAKER_06]: This guy's definitely going to like a strip club or a brothel, like, for sure. [SPEAKER_05]: drinking water, doing anything that involves me of your senses, just to reach out and touch something, experience cold, experience warmth.

[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, can you, can you imagine like, can you imagine the headache, pun intended, that debt whileer's gonna have when he comes back? [SPEAKER_06]: It's gonna answer some questions from his wife about some charges on their bank account. [SPEAKER_05]: and explaining to his daughter about why he didn't recognize her?

[SPEAKER_06]: A thousand credits of cinnabon, really? [SPEAKER_05]: That's... [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, that, that's... [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, that's cinnabon, of course. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I don't need an alien to make me do that. [SPEAKER_06]: Why did you gain to like 40 pounds over a week? [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, man.

[SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: So the source that was talking about this also further went on to say that it's complicated because of course it is. [SPEAKER_05]: And we aren't just talking about diplomatic ties between two planets or species, but two universes. [SPEAKER_05]: One physical, the other virtual.

[SPEAKER_05]: The source has refused [SPEAKER_06]: Oh my god, I'm so intrigued about where this is going. [SPEAKER_06]: You must have been surprised when I called it like at the beginning of the episode like Oh shit, they swapped bodies. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, well, we, we, we were kind of leading down that path, though, because one of the questions that we had last week was, okay, these hackers went in there unintentionally, is there any way for somebody to go in there with intention to be able to go back and forth?

[SPEAKER_05]: And so I think making those connections. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Okay. [SPEAKER_06]: So, and it's also kind of like a trope, right? [SPEAKER_06]: It is a body swap, right? [SPEAKER_06]: But yeah, wow. [SPEAKER_06]: This is this is becoming a way more interesting story than I ever anticipated.

[SPEAKER_06]: I [SPEAKER_06]: kind of hope that it has happy ending but I know a lot of these don't and I'm pulling for Jordan to come back to the real world unharmed. [SPEAKER_06]: My other thought was medically what if they're doing this body swap thing because that's the way to keep his body from turning into mosh.

[SPEAKER_06]: that they do have some kind of electrical impulses running through the brain, but it's just a virtual alien. [SPEAKER_06]: That's essentially like keeping his house running and it's a really cold winter outside and the virtual aliens just keep in the pipes for freezing. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, yeah, it is kind of like house sitting.

[SPEAKER_05]: Just, you know, I'm away on vacation. [SPEAKER_05]: You come over and feed the cat and make sure that things in the house take out the trash. [SPEAKER_05]: You know, it's like, yeah, that's kind of what's going on. [SPEAKER_05]: There's somebody else inhabiting your body using all the functionality of it, keeping things working and making sure that your brain is still sending all of those electrical impulses that biologically keep you alive.

[SPEAKER_06]: right yeah who knows maybe it's the the lack of a being inside your body when you're in there maybe it's that lack that causes an atrophy that those hackers got so knows um but i'm just hoping that ambassador sigano over here decides to return it with a full tank [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that would be very nice for sure.

[SPEAKER_05]: I could also like tangent on how Johnny Silverhand this whole situation is. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: It's so cyberpunk. [SPEAKER_06]: It is very cyberpunk. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, it is. [SPEAKER_06]: Especially like, yeah, we don't know anything about ambassador's hike and is he like a total rebel who knows?

[SPEAKER_05]: Oh god, okay, I hope that the ambassador is not a Johnny Silverhand because the last thing that the citadel needs is a freaking space terrorist. [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, yeah, right. [SPEAKER_06]: And by the way, if you guys look up to Johnny Silverhand like on Ironically, I think you may am is the point.

[SPEAKER_06]: That's that's a conversation for your show, though. [SPEAKER_05]: this is very true. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I adore the rocker boy. [SPEAKER_05]: I do not admire him. [SPEAKER_06]: Right. [SPEAKER_06]: That's yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: Important distinction there. [SPEAKER_06]: Just like, you know, I like the elusive man, right?

[SPEAKER_06]: I think he's a really awesome character, really compelling total asshole, total psychopath. [SPEAKER_06]: So, yeah. [SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: Well, I think that's pretty much all we got for this week and next week we're going to be talking with our patrons and then we have the exciting conclusion of this virtual alien arc.

[SPEAKER_06]: So that's what the next couple weeks look like for us. [SPEAKER_06]: Genesis, how can people get a hold to you in the meantime and got an in-thing going on that you want to shout out? [SPEAKER_05]: Um, nothing too crazy going on for me in the real world, uh, but you catch me on my other two shows.

[SPEAKER_05]: The two girls, one shit podcast, where we analyze right in review, all that the world, the video game romances has to offer. [SPEAKER_05]: And the cyberpunk lore cast, where we explore everything about the foundations of the past, the state of Night City today and the news of the future for all things cyberpunk.

[SPEAKER_05]: kind of going through our own what if series over there, like what if Jackie survived the heist at the beginning of the game and how that would have changed things? [SPEAKER_06]: Then my heart would be full again. [SPEAKER_05]: That's... No, she said the same thing. [SPEAKER_05]: I wouldn't have been so traumatized at the get.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, yeah, right. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, man. [SPEAKER_06]: That sounds like a really exciting series of episodes too. [SPEAKER_06]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: Well, if you guys are a fan of sci-fi and cyberpunk definitely go check those out. [SPEAKER_06]: I am streaming. [SPEAKER_06]: I've been streaming a lot of fallout new Vegas and fall out three.

[SPEAKER_06]: I'm playing both of those in the same game. [SPEAKER_06]: I installed a [SPEAKER_06]: bunch of mods, literally a mod list of like 1,503 mods that combine both those games into the same game and it works to modernize it and it makes it pretty hardcore. [SPEAKER_06]: So that's been a really fun, I've been streaming it as I can, I think I've streamed twice over the last week, which is like a miracle.

[SPEAKER_06]: But if you want to go see that, go follow me on Twitch at in seven legend. [SPEAKER_06]: Otherwise, you can find me here on the show or the Robots Radio Discord. [SPEAKER_06]: And until next time, specters, if you're in a body swap, be responsible. [SPEAKER_06]: Be a responsible host. [SPEAKER_06]: I think that's a good advice to leave on.

[SPEAKER_06]: All right, catch you later, everybody. [SPEAKER_06]: Thanks for listening to the Mass Effect War Test. [SPEAKER_06]: Reach out to us on Blue Sky, Twitter, Discord, Patreon, or email us at Mass EffectLoreCast at gmail.com. [SPEAKER_05]: Join us next week for more lore, same space, same time.

[SPEAKER_05]: Or check out our live streams at twitch.tv slash Mass Effect WarCast.
