[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite lorecast on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_08]: Welcome to the Mass Effect lorecast. [SPEAKER_08]: I'm in seven the legend. [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm Genesis, join us. [SPEAKER_08]: As we explore along tides of light, and through sholes of dust, to see where this lore began.

[SPEAKER_03]: And consider where it may go. [SPEAKER_08]: Specters welcome back to the Mass Effect woke cast as we've been called in the past week So you better not be sleeping because we will rip you right out of that slumber get it anyway Not gonna pay more attention than that trolls joining me as always is my marvelous Coast Genesis Genesis how are you doing?

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing quite well, and you are looking quite lovely tonight, Sam. [SPEAKER_08]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_08]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_08]: I got a lot of sleep last night. [SPEAKER_08]: I actually fell asleep at like seven on the couch, and I woke up at like 1130, and I was like, Huh? [SPEAKER_08]: What?

[SPEAKER_08]: That was one of those sleeps, and then I went upstairs and passed out. [SPEAKER_08]: And of course, when I go to the bed, my sleep isn't that great. [SPEAKER_08]: Look, the sleep on the couch is actually better. [SPEAKER_08]: But anyway, thank you. [SPEAKER_08]: We're going back to character episodes.

[SPEAKER_08]: We've taken a little break for a little while, but now we've got a couple of characters who, of who their fates converge, I guess you could say. [SPEAKER_08]: We've got executor Palin. [SPEAKER_08]: uh... the gnarry palan and we've got captain while first commander and then captain uh... bayley armondo oen bayley to be exact yes and there's even lore surrounding his name ooh i can't wait to get into this armondo is such a fun name to say isn't it it is armondo [SPEAKER_03]: eat away in my head.

[SPEAKER_03]: I've done that a couple of times. [SPEAKER_08]: Yep. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, there you go. [SPEAKER_08]: That song's gonna be stuck in a lot of people's heads. [SPEAKER_08]: Now, so let's focus first on Palin because he really only appears in one game and then one piece of external media. [SPEAKER_08]: And yet it seems like he has a way larger role than some people might realize.

[SPEAKER_08]: So first of all, he's the turian head of Citadel Security. [SPEAKER_08]: See sec. [SPEAKER_08]: And you might remember him from Mass Effect One after you become Spectre. [SPEAKER_08]: You can go and talk to him and he doesn't really take to you kindly. [SPEAKER_08]: He's got an office on the Procidium near the embassies and like most Turins.

[SPEAKER_08]: Palin is extremely by the book. [SPEAKER_08]: And that's a quote. [SPEAKER_08]: He is described as being by the book. [SPEAKER_08]: It's my opinion. [SPEAKER_08]: that because he works as this liaison between C-Sec and the Citadel Council, that he, yes, he's the head of C-Sec, but because he's the liaison, he's probably acting more as politician than cop.

[SPEAKER_03]: agree with you on that one. [SPEAKER_03]: I think that he probably worked his way up through the ranks. [SPEAKER_03]: It's not like he was just randomly assigned this position. [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like he was a beat cop at some point and then has worked his way up to being executor. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, he definitely has the attitude of like you know, the the enlisted guy who commissioned as an officer.

[SPEAKER_08]: So instead of like the straight [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, he he's like a by the book guy, but he's not like a goodie to choose like Boy Scout like he's a hard ass about it Exactly, he's very much. [SPEAKER_08]: I want everybody around me to be following the same rules that I'm following Yeah, and that's part of the reason that he's a problem with specters, but we will get into that in a little bit.

[SPEAKER_08]: He's got a background with garrison [SPEAKER_03]: He does, because Palin is the one who assigns Garris to the investigation into Seren after the attack on Eden Prime. [SPEAKER_03]: And as we know, Garris couldn't find anything conclusive and demanded more time. [SPEAKER_03]: Paylin orders him off of the investigation.

[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I promise not to make this episode all about garris, but we can't talk about the past without talking about the C-Sec agent who ends up on her squad. [SPEAKER_03]: So let's take a listen to the sexy garris voice and the argument that we walk into on Mass Effect 1. [SPEAKER_08]: I was muted.

[SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, this is right near the beginning of the game, so if this sounds familiar, that's why. [SPEAKER_08]: And if it doesn't, then maybe you should go back and play Mass Effect 1. [SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, here, let's take a listen. [SPEAKER_02]: Commander Shepard, Garus Vicarion. [SPEAKER_02]: I was the officer in charge of the C-Second Vestigation in the desert.

[SPEAKER_08]: So you can hear just from that little bit like 22 seconds that it got pretty tense between Garus and Palin and Palin essentially, like, big time to him, you know, like, I don't care, you know, I'm the boss here, so you're off the investigation. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that kind of spurs garrison to wanting to work with Shepard rather than with CSEC.

[SPEAKER_03]: So thanks, Ballon, because if you had given garrison more time, I don't think we would have him in the game. [SPEAKER_08]: That's true, but you know, and I think this clip in particular brought up a good... [SPEAKER_08]: like internal debate that I had about was Palin justified in pulling garrison of the investigation.

[SPEAKER_08]: Like obviously it's easy for us with hindsight in 2020 and knowing things that Palin didn't know to be like, yeah, that's BS. [SPEAKER_08]: But in Palin's mind he or Palin's mind, well Palin's mind, he is protecting [SPEAKER_08]: the reputation of CSEC. [SPEAKER_08]: And he's probably thinking, I'm even protecting Geras.

[SPEAKER_03]: I feel that for sure because he wants the investigation to move forward, but it's also realizing that Geras is getting emotionally attached to the situation because there's anger, there's frustration, [SPEAKER_03]: having a trillion who is going emotionally off the handle to try and find somebody is going to possibly bend to tweak the rules or find a confirming bias.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going out to search for the information that I believe was out there so therefore I'm going to find it and Palan's protecting him. [SPEAKER_08]: This isn't the first argument. [SPEAKER_08]: They've had like not by a long shot. [SPEAKER_08]: I mean, we can learn from Garus later about the doctor, salient case, and I can only imagine how loudly Garus must have protested that.

[SPEAKER_03]: very much so. [SPEAKER_03]: And in case you guys were wondering because I love this about Tori and Laura, that Palin does wear face paint because we know that the ones who don't wear the face paint are generally considered a little bit shadier, a little bit, they lie more often, Palin is very much by the book and wearing his face paint.

[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, he's got two toned care face, which is kind of rare for Turians, and it bears a light blue face paint over his light brown face plate distinct from his dark brown mandibles, which I thought was really cool. [SPEAKER_08]: I think that's, yeah, I think that's on purpose, right, that the face paint stands out.

[SPEAKER_08]: So heavily, he's planting his flag, he's showing you exactly who he is. [SPEAKER_08]: and everything that he is is by the book, right? [SPEAKER_08]: So. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes. [SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, we don't have any lore about exactly what the patterns of it mean, but it almost looks kind of very much like armor to me.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I don't think that we have the Lord to match each pattern to the Turian colony that it comes from, but if I'm wrong, I'd love to learn about that. [SPEAKER_08]: Now you mentioned earlier that his attitude, you know, reflects the fact that he has worked for decades in CSEC, he is a 30-year veteran of CSEC, so this is his whole career, and he makes no secret about his views, right?

[SPEAKER_08]: So when Shepard walks into his office, the first human specter is not exactly a terribly welcome visitor. [SPEAKER_08]: We have some audio here from how that meeting goes. [SPEAKER_07]: Life's a circuit. [SPEAKER_08]: Oh, good. [SPEAKER_08]: There's an ad. [SPEAKER_08]: Perfect. [SPEAKER_08]: Thanks YouTube.

[SPEAKER_08]: You never failed to disappoint me. [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway. [SPEAKER_08]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_05]: Finally did it. [SPEAKER_05]: I knew one of your kind would make Spectre one day. [SPEAKER_05]: Why did you come to see me, Shipper? [SPEAKER_05]: Did Ambassador Oedina send you? [SPEAKER_05]: Have we met before?

[SPEAKER_05]: No, but I know you well enough. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm executive Palom, head of C-Sek. [SPEAKER_05]: And you are the first human Spectre. [SPEAKER_05]: Get used to people knowing who you are. [SPEAKER_05]: At least are out here. [SPEAKER_05]: I get the feeling you're not too fond of humans. [SPEAKER_05]: No, I just don't trust your crime.

[SPEAKER_05]: Not yet. [SPEAKER_05]: Your humans are eager to take all the power you can get, and you're being given a lot. [SPEAKER_05]: The council wants to make humanity their new favorite pet that's their business, but I don't have to like it. [SPEAKER_04]: The council treats us like second-class citizens.

[SPEAKER_04]: We have to fight for everything we get. [SPEAKER_04]: Good, and fight for it. [SPEAKER_05]: But don't expect the rest of us to just sit back and let you take it. [SPEAKER_05]: My busy man commander, who we don't hear. [SPEAKER_08]: The guy is so short with Shepard, it's so funny, like he's irreverent.

[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't care at all. [SPEAKER_03]: Ooh, okay, you're the first human specter, good. [SPEAKER_03]: I saw that coming from a mile away, but he also does sound happy that Shepherd is willing to fight for what he wants, or what they want in for all of humanity. [SPEAKER_03]: So I like that.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, so a couple of things I feel like it's really funny that Shepard says something along lines of you. [SPEAKER_08]: I don't you don't like humans and then he's so matter of fact and so blunt about no I just don't trust you. [SPEAKER_08]: Can you imagine saying that to someone's face?

[SPEAKER_08]: Like, they, you don't trust them. [SPEAKER_01]: Real conversation. [SPEAKER_01]: I never said that. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, where does the conversation go from there? [SPEAKER_08]: So, I know where I am. [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like you're getting completely shut down. [SPEAKER_08]: When they were writing Palin's character, I feel like they were trying to go for like the grizzled police chief.

[SPEAKER_08]: kind of feel the guy who would easily scream at garris or being a loose cannon and say good to hell out of my office yes I give me a bit of a much though [SPEAKER_08]: leave your gun and badge on the desk, you know, of your victory and your liability to the whole department, but God damn it, you get results.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: So yeah, I think that Palin, his position is by definition political, as well as law enforcement, but he's using politics and power grabs [SPEAKER_08]: and but he's also been in c-sector 30 years right so we got to put that in context meaning he was likely stuck on some low-level assignment maybe a street beat uh... on the citadel while his friends and perhaps even family members of his fought humanity in the first contact war [SPEAKER_03]: That's right, because at the beginning of Mass Effect 1, we know that the first contact war had only ended approximately 27 years ago, so still very fresh.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, very fresh, and for him, watching them go in 26, 27 years from, you know, first contact enemy to now they've got a specter in the ranks. [SPEAKER_08]: And this guy's walking into my office, like I think most people would probably Would probably not trust Shepard in that in that in that instance, but they wouldn't most people would not be so forthcoming about it True, but that's also very tury and to be very Matter of fact and state exactly how you were feeling in the moment.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, yeah, it is he's not he's the opposite of duplicitous [SPEAKER_03]: right. [SPEAKER_03]: Very right. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, not open face, not clean face, but you know what I mean, interior and standards. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, definitely not bald face. [SPEAKER_03]: No. [SPEAKER_03]: And the fact that Palin doesn't like humans, but truly hates specters even more, just adds a layer of complexity as to why he does not like shepherd at all.

[SPEAKER_03]: And that's because he mistrust specters because he believes that nobody should act above the law. [SPEAKER_03]: And he claims that he's never had to do, that he's never had to break the law to do his job. [SPEAKER_03]: So has no reason or no understanding of why specters get to go out and do such thing?

[SPEAKER_08]: You know, when I first played through this game series, I was like 14, and when I first met Palin, I was like, man, what an asshole. [SPEAKER_08]: And as I've got an older, I actually really respect Palin. [SPEAKER_08]: And I feel like he is the right person to be the executor. [SPEAKER_08]: Because yeah, I don't think that I think even recent events have shown us and proved to us that it is an idiotic idea.

[SPEAKER_08]: to give any branch of law enforcement, a level of unaccountability, to allow them to act unilaterally and outside the law, and that they cannot be touched except by the whims of an unelected tribunal. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I feel you on that one, so I think that Palin having this say and kind of giving us this alternative viewpoint is something that as adults we can better understand rather than, you know, kids playing this game or even somebody who hasn't experienced as much life or a situation like this politically, they wouldn't be able to understand it as complexly.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, and, you know, I feel like Palin might actually agree with a lot of humans in this regard about not trusting spectres because until Shepherd got into the ranks, you know, did anyone trust Nylis on board? [SPEAKER_03]: No, they're, I mean, Joker makes comments about how he hates having the idea of a specter being on board and, you know, somebody who's so far above the law and then almost every other specter that we encounter as this level of duplicity and has a level of law-breaking, I mean, even John Dumbau, the quote, other good, good specter, is still willing to do [SPEAKER_03]: kind of illegal things in order to achieve his mission.

[SPEAKER_08]: Right, most of the specters we hear about in the lore were like horrible people who justified the means. [SPEAKER_08]: Uh, and the means were like killing civilians. [SPEAKER_08]: They were just accepted as losses. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, and that's, you know, Tel Avivseer, Seren, it's the first specter I can't remember his name.

[SPEAKER_08]: Uh, the Celarian. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, so this sets up, [SPEAKER_08]: He is, you know, of course, when we meet him in Mass Effect One, he's disgruntled that Palin took him off the investigation, but after he gets to talk with Garus a little bit more in the Normandy, he reveals just how Lucy Goosey, he views the law, that if he himself deems that he needs to break the law, [SPEAKER_08]: to accomplish the mission, then so be it.

[SPEAKER_08]: But I've always found that to be the flaw in Garrison's logic. [SPEAKER_08]: Who is the one deciding the circumstances warrant you breaking the law? [SPEAKER_08]: Is it you, Garrison? [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, because Gary doesn't know how to see the world in shades of gray, and that makes it a little scary, because if you only see it in the black and white, who decides what your right and wrong is, where is your morality scale?

[SPEAKER_03]: And Shepherd... [SPEAKER_03]: Howls pale in, at some point, that the galaxy needs people like the specters, and can seeds in pale and wool then can seed to the point, but says that in the case of specters, they need to be held to a higher standard, not a substandard of the law, or the council might end up with more agents just like sarin.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: And there would be a way to keep their identities secret, right, if they needed to, but they still were accountable. [SPEAKER_08]: You know, spectres could operate with some level of leniency, like intelligence operatives do while keeping their identities private, but ultimately they, you know, there is a chain of command.

[SPEAKER_08]: So I agree with Palin here again, but I also think that [SPEAKER_08]: They're just kind of like the council's attack dogs, right? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that makes it a little bit scary thinking about it in terms now. [SPEAKER_03]: When playing through Mass Effect, we know, okay, Shepherds going to make the quote, write decisions.

[SPEAKER_03]: They are going to be the good guy of the story, whether or not they do it through the Paragon or Renegade play style. [SPEAKER_03]: We still have the choices to save the most amount of people, make choices that are going to [SPEAKER_03]: benefit not only humanity, but other races as well, but we see that other specters don't think the same way.

[SPEAKER_08]: No, and the thing that Palin's ideology is protecting against the phrase, you know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. [SPEAKER_08]: And as Gareth tells us, you know, he sees the world gray. [SPEAKER_08]: He doesn't know what to do with gray. [SPEAKER_08]: When someone is unable to see nuance and has such extreme feelings about, you know, their own authority and how much they're entitled to, I think that should scare everyone.

[SPEAKER_08]: Because it means that that person would be capable of committing atrocities if they believed that the circumstances warranted it. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, Garrison can commit murder at least three times that I can think of off the top of my head. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, Dr. Saley on Cidara.

[SPEAKER_08]: Wait, what is this name again? [SPEAKER_08]: Cidonus. [SPEAKER_08]: Cidonus. [SPEAKER_08]: Cidonus. [SPEAKER_08]: What's the third one? [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, wait, no, maybe it is just the two. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I know that was two. [SPEAKER_03]: Garrison can be, Garrison can be the one who shoots Udina.

[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, that's right. [SPEAKER_08]: Day, day, John didn't hear. [SPEAKER_08]: He's right, Harkin. [SPEAKER_08]: Yep. [SPEAKER_08]: How did we forget about a Harkin? [SPEAKER_08]: What a lovely individual. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, so, you know, should the galaxy have an unaccountable secret police force like only at the whims of the council?

[SPEAKER_08]: I see the utilitarian purpose of them. [SPEAKER_08]: I do, you know, sometimes you need someone to go in there, get their hands dirty, and act fast, and do it in secrecy. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, but the real problem that I have here is the level of authority [SPEAKER_08]: extra judicial executions being part of it.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I also don't like the level of transparency and accountability. [SPEAKER_03]: You know, we, they, they should be known our Spectre documents later declassified and you know, part of the public knowledge. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, all right. [SPEAKER_08]: I don't think the council's responding to this FOIA requests.

[SPEAKER_08]: No, no way, so that sets up an interesting dynamic if they're not in the game. [SPEAKER_08]: Because, or if they're not above the law, but they are in the game, but you have to abide by the law. [SPEAKER_08]: So if the spectres were not above the law, how much different would the games have been to play?

[SPEAKER_08]: I feel like they wouldn't have been nearly as fun because you wouldn't have been able to get into X, Y, C, area, you wouldn't have been able to convince so [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, being a specter status, especially in Mass Effect 1, was a big huge deal. [SPEAKER_03]: You can completely avoid becoming a specter again in Mass Effect 2 if you choose to, and so it doesn't feel like it has as much of a play in two, but it definitely in Mass Effect 1, it would have changed a lot of the gameplay, not being a specter.

[SPEAKER_08]: And yes, you know, day brings up the red tape that spectres would have to deal with. [SPEAKER_08]: if you were not above the law. [SPEAKER_08]: And that wouldn't exactly be fun gameplay. [SPEAKER_08]: So making the spectres above the law was perhaps an necessity from a gameplay point of view, allowing him to jump through banners of red tape that would have restricted him before and keep the pacing of the game on the right track.

[SPEAKER_03]: No, you must wait four hours of in-game time to pass by in order to have your warrant processed, Shepherd. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, right? [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: You're going to wait at the scene for four hours, stand around, shoot in the shit with your [SPEAKER_08]: fellow cops, I guess.

[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_08]: So, all right, we don't have a ton about Palin, but we do have to address some cut content here. [SPEAKER_08]: That, and this cut content would have created some serious conflicts in the lore. [SPEAKER_08]: There was cut content from Mass Effect One at the final scene with Anderson searching for Shepherd in the rubble of the Citadel Tower.

[SPEAKER_08]: Palin was supposed to be there. [SPEAKER_08]: and you only have one very short line where there was a whole dialogue and it looked like they were losing hope for finding shepherd. [SPEAKER_08]: And just as they're about to go, that's when shepherd makes the entrance. [SPEAKER_08]: Now we didn't get that dialogue, um, but [SPEAKER_08]: Remember that Palin is supposed to be there at the end of Mass Effect 1, and he's supposed to be like there and fine and healthy.

[SPEAKER_08]: But more content cut from Mass Effect 2 indicates that Palin died during the battle of the Citadel, that the death had killed them. [SPEAKER_03]: which is craziness because we have content of him later on in Mass Effect Retribution. [SPEAKER_03]: And so it's, there's a lot of content going around Palin that either was or wasn't, or they tried to trim it down to make it all fit.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, there must have been some heated back and forths in the writer's room about Paladin because there's also a codex entry later that kind of, anyway, we'll get into that. [SPEAKER_08]: But we know that he didn't die because he shows up in Mass Effect Retribution, that's just before Mass Effect 3, and apparently the dev, the dev didn't catch everything.

[SPEAKER_08]: Ah, that was originally planned for Palantz fate because one of Emily Wong's news vids refers to Shellick as executive in Mass Effect, yeah, Mass Effect too. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and well, I mean, so that I can kind of hand wave away because maybe Palin got promoted. [SPEAKER_03]: What is above executor?

[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe they're all executives together or maybe he got demoted and jealous is now in his place. [SPEAKER_03]: So there's at least [SPEAKER_08]: Well, not because of how he shows up in retribution, which is after Mass Effect 2, he plays this pretty critical role in Anderson's raid on Cerberus.

[SPEAKER_08]: And he couldn't play this role without the authority of being executor. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's true, because we know that executive Palin is still the head of Citadel Security in 2086, because he is approached by Tori and Ambassador Orianna with the evidence against Cerberus. [SPEAKER_03]: And we talked about this when we talked about the the Reficueration book, because he's the one that created the Altorian Task Force set to assist Orianna [SPEAKER_03]: David Anderson and Kaley Saunders in their efforts, and he readily agreed to the request because he had served under Oriana during his stint in the military that all Torians have to go through.

[SPEAKER_08]: Well, and it's also a chance to take down some humans, a peg, let alone humans' premises, who are also breaking the law. [SPEAKER_08]: Like, serverless is probably the number one organization that not jealous, but Palin would love to eliminate. [SPEAKER_08]: And here's his opportunity to help.

[SPEAKER_08]: So even though it's assisting some humans, it's taking down others, and I feel like he's like, [SPEAKER_08]: Oh, let's do this. [SPEAKER_03]: He is so totally into attacks or risk. [SPEAKER_03]: Terrefermer is probably on his list as well. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, definitely. [SPEAKER_08]: I wouldn't be surprised if Palin had ordered monitoring if Terrefermer representatives on the citadel.

[SPEAKER_08]: That wouldn't surprise me. [SPEAKER_08]: However, we went back and forth about cut content, but we do have to address [SPEAKER_08]: his death, and I say that with a question mark, because basically, okay, so he shows up in one of the comics, Mass Effect, was it inquisition? [SPEAKER_08]: Is that the name of it?

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, so he shows up in one of the comics, and essentially, Udina is leading an investigation into Palin. [SPEAKER_08]: and he orders Bailey to go basically Snoop on Palin and he says, hey, he's got this office that he's been seen going in and out of in this area. [SPEAKER_08]: Bailey shows up.

[SPEAKER_08]: He can fronts Palin, Palin, angrily denies, Udina's accusations, Udina's been accusing him of is it conspiracy or treason? [SPEAKER_08]: It's one of them. [SPEAKER_08]: And anyway, Palin denies that [SPEAKER_08]: uh, and he actually opens fire on Commander Bailey, who is Captain Bailey at this point.

[SPEAKER_08]: Captain Bailey returns the fire, they have this exchange with dialogue, and then the executor tackles Bailey, but Bailey gets the shot off, and the comic ends with basically [SPEAKER_03]: So let's talk about what we think Pellon was actually doing here. [SPEAKER_08]: Right, before we get to the death part and whether or not he actually died, the investigation was very intriguing to me because it doesn't actually clarify anything in the background of the accusation of treason.

[SPEAKER_08]: uh, and when you put two and two together, especially given the codex, uh, entry that we'll get to in a little bit, it looks like Palin was investigating Udina's correspondence with Cerberus and the plans for the coup. [SPEAKER_08]: But to be fair to Bailey, it's also really suspicious that Bailey finds Palin in an office building with two dead sea [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so I understand Bailey's point of view here, trying to figure out everything that's going on and not knowing Odena's role in things, and all he sees is exactly the executor who is known to dislike humans, is known to dislike the council and their specters.

[SPEAKER_03]: Now looking into the human counselor and trying to hide or destroy evidence, [SPEAKER_03]: I see why Bailey did what he did. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, and Bailey just didn't have the whole picture, but Udina knew that, right? [SPEAKER_08]: But we hear about this from Commander Bailey's point of view in Mass Effect 3.

[SPEAKER_08]: He tells Shepard that Udina suspected Palin of Tresen, and subsequently, he ordered Bailey to investigate Palin. [SPEAKER_08]: Bailey killed him, and then got that promotion from Captain to Commander of C.S. [SPEAKER_08]: Interesting how that works. [SPEAKER_08]: Do me a little favor. [SPEAKER_08]: But here's where things in the Lord get pretty fuzzy yet again.

[SPEAKER_08]: It turns out that maybe Bailey did not kill Palin after all. [SPEAKER_03]: That's because, in the Mass Effect, three Codex, it states very specifically that Palin was in fact alive. [SPEAKER_03]: Reading directly from the Codex here, Councillor Odena's attempted coup will no doubt be analyzed for generations to come, but a clear picture is beginning to emerge.

[SPEAKER_03]: Odena had contacted Cerberus to coordinate what was intended to be a bloodless takeover [SPEAKER_03]: in which he would force the other counselors to ground him emergency powers so that he could command the Citadel Fleet. [SPEAKER_03]: He would then direct the fleet to liberate his home world of Earth.

[SPEAKER_03]: The plan fell apart early when Executive Palin and the Celarian counselor caught wind of it. [SPEAKER_03]: In defense of the plan, the elusive man dispatched his top assassins commanded by Kailang to kill them. [SPEAKER_08]: Real quick, bloodless takeover of the Citadel. [SPEAKER_08]: You remember when the elusive man threatened, he said the revolution will be bloodless of the aliens allow it.

[SPEAKER_08]: That way, he's saying that wasn't the elusive man. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, she's like shaking your head at me over there. [SPEAKER_08]: Uh, uh, some people will get that joke, uh, but anyway, this is pretty black and white that Palin is alive. [SPEAKER_08]: Come this server is cool. [SPEAKER_08]: And it sounds like kind of laying, killed him.

[SPEAKER_03]: But at this point, I have no clue. [SPEAKER_03]: Again, how many times? [SPEAKER_08]: Like, is he dead or not? [SPEAKER_08]: This is like the third psych out we've had about this guy. [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we will see in the next Mass Effect to Game if we get more Palin lore, because at this point who knows he survived Bayley, he survived, he survived a gooth attack, and now it's like, all right, you know what, maybe he survived Kiling as well.

[SPEAKER_08]: Who knew that Palin actually had the strongest plot armor in the game? [SPEAKER_08]: Well, all right. [SPEAKER_08]: Well, that's all we have for Palin, but we do want to go back and talk about Bailey and Bailey's Lauren, what led him up to his intertwined fate with Palin and perhaps a little bit after that.

[SPEAKER_08]: But first, let's go over to the middle of the show. [SPEAKER_07]: We have beef, bacon, we have beer, the foods of my people. [SPEAKER_00]: Young men have funny ideas of what a story you're like. [SPEAKER_00]: I blame the extra net and computer games. [SPEAKER_07]: Rex, Shepherd, Grant, Shepherd, Rex, Grant.

[SPEAKER_08]: Alright, here we are in the middle of the show. [SPEAKER_08]: We've got a couple of new comments on Spotify, no new reviews on Apple Podcast, but a couple of nice comments on our most recent episode, the patron chat about swapping bodies with AI. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, Genesis, do you want to go ahead and read the first one?

[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, all right. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, only because are you talking about the one from creeps? [SPEAKER_08]: That's right, yes. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I discovered this lorecast after completing my all games insanity run. [SPEAKER_03]: Dear Lord, help me. [SPEAKER_03]: Trust, I believe you, it's hard.

[SPEAKER_03]: As I wanted to experience more from the Mass Effect universe after becoming so attached to the characters and events that occur within and outside of this game. [SPEAKER_03]: and seven is a literal human and cyclopedia when it comes to mass effect and genocide adds her own personal flair and charisma with her own unique insights into the game's lore.

[SPEAKER_08]: It's actually written like that, everybody. [SPEAKER_08]: That is definitely a typo from preps, but it actually says gin, like j-e-n, and then aside. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Yep. [SPEAKER_03]: I am genocide. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I don't know how I feel about this. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, a fantastic broadcast was very fun kind of people.

[SPEAKER_03]: I should go PS, Tally is Bay. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it is Jenna Siss, not Jenna Sine. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I think it was, yeah, I think it was probably just on a correct, um, I don't know why I don't correct with a J. Huh? [SPEAKER_03]: with a J, it was awesome, correct? [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I can't quite understand that, but I feel like Creeps probably knows that your name is Genesis, if he's listening to the show like this, but thank you Creeps for the support and the very kind words for both of us.

[SPEAKER_08]: We've got another one from Dallas H. Five stars all around, love the show, been listening to you and Tom after my son was born at the beginning of COVID. [SPEAKER_08]: Dad life equals not as much game time. [SPEAKER_08]: He's six now. [SPEAKER_08]: Oh, man. [SPEAKER_08]: I told Genesis when I read that earlier.

[SPEAKER_08]: I felt like the Matt Damon aging gift from saving Ryan's privates. [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, Dallas goes on to say, God, it has been a spell. [SPEAKER_08]: Just wanted to say your podcast brought a laugh and a smile during the pandemic's ups and downs, during call, call it nights, oh man, I'm sorry about that.

[SPEAKER_08]: Sorry that your son had call like, I can only imagine how difficult that was. [SPEAKER_08]: Oh, and you were working overnight shifts. [SPEAKER_08]: During walks and at the gym, Tom, in seven, and now the lovely Genesis have been a comforting constant. [SPEAKER_08]: I just wanted to say thank you.

[SPEAKER_08]: PS destroys canon, fight me. [SPEAKER_08]: You're not going to get any fight for me. [SPEAKER_08]: I love the destroy ending. [SPEAKER_08]: I don't think it's necessarily a proving of a canon yet, but we'll see. [SPEAKER_08]: Thank you, Dallas, for your continued support of the show. [SPEAKER_08]: And I'm so happy that we could be there to at least ease the suffering of some of those nights.

[SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I remember listening to the slower cast each week as it came out in the beginning. [SPEAKER_03]: And I know that you guys, you and Tom got me through some tough times. [SPEAKER_03]: So. [SPEAKER_03]: That's this. [SPEAKER_08]: Dase says now he can listen to you in genocide during the haunted lockdown.

[SPEAKER_08]: Oh god, I hope not. [SPEAKER_08]: I hope there's not a odd device like that. [SPEAKER_08]: That would suck! [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, we have a pop quiz voice line. [SPEAKER_08]: I've got a voice line for you Genesis So let's go over here to our handy dandy sound file and I will pull this up when I was looking for the sound of the voice line I actually had never heard this one before.

[SPEAKER_02]: So let's give it a listen Yeah, not my commander anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't bother me around [SPEAKER_02]: Well, give a one more lesson. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm not my commander anymore. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't bother me around. [SPEAKER_08]: So, does that sound familiar to you? [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna go with hand-honily in mass effect.

[SPEAKER_03]: Three? [SPEAKER_08]: Correct. [SPEAKER_08]: Correct. [SPEAKER_08]: Now, there's, can you get the entire context of it? [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, gosh, I really don't. [SPEAKER_03]: You're not my commander anymore, so don't order me around. [SPEAKER_03]: When you are attempting to get them back on the Normandy, and you pissed him off somehow, I don't know.

[SPEAKER_08]: I'm fairly certain, and I might be wrong, so someone correct me if I am, but I'm fairly certain this happens if Gabby dies. [SPEAKER_03]: How can Gabby die without Ken nine? [SPEAKER_08]: I don't know, but I just saw other, wow, what happened with my exposure, Jesus. [SPEAKER_08]: Like, angelic beam of light.

[SPEAKER_08]: What the hell is that? [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, I'm gonna have to fix that flash bang. [SPEAKER_08]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, everybody If you're watching on video Retracist that he knows what this quote is from so please enlighten us During the suicide mission if you do one mission in between going.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so Gabby can die, but not can Interesting This one I don't know the specifics on it because I thought that they both died no matter what [SPEAKER_08]: I guess not. [SPEAKER_08]: And also, my expo, wow, I have no idea what's going on with my camera. [SPEAKER_08]: Oh my god, it's like a raven here.

[SPEAKER_08]: What the hell? [SPEAKER_08]: Um, someone's messing with me through my webcam, I think. [SPEAKER_08]: I have no idea. [SPEAKER_08]: What the hell was that? [SPEAKER_03]: I have no idea, buddy. [SPEAKER_03]: I have no idea. [SPEAKER_03]: What is going on? [SPEAKER_03]: Man! [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, we're just going to power through the show, uh, retrobund says the ghost of Palin found me.

[SPEAKER_08]: It sounds well, right? [SPEAKER_08]: It's so over. [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, good job. [SPEAKER_08]: Genesis, I would not have gotten that if I wasn't looking through the actual game files and, you know, saw what I saw. [SPEAKER_08]: We also have a couple of new patrons to shout out. [SPEAKER_08]: Gina D and Brian in.

[SPEAKER_08]: Thank you so much for signing up on our Patreon. [SPEAKER_08]: And we've got our tier 5 patrons to shout out as we do every week. [SPEAKER_08]: Thank you all so much for your just extremely generous support of this show you guys and other listeners like you and actually all of you make this this show possible.

[SPEAKER_08]: Like if it wasn't for all of you I wouldn't be doing this. [SPEAKER_08]: I wouldn't be screaming into the void. [SPEAKER_08]: So I think that's all we got for the middle of the middle of the show. [SPEAKER_08]: Let's get back and hear more about Bailey. [SPEAKER_01]: After time addressed among open stars, a long tides of light and through shows of dust, I will return to where I began.

[SPEAKER_06]: Celery and reproduction different, very little sex drive. [SPEAKER_06]: If intended to try human, would try you? [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, my pengaries! [SPEAKER_08]: All right, we're back. [SPEAKER_08]: And Redrabot sounded that, I said that that outro for the midbrake sounded like a PBS ad. [SPEAKER_08]: Well, all my homies love PBS.

[SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, let's go to the other side of the spectrum to a C-SEC officer who is way more interested in results than rule books. [SPEAKER_08]: Captain later, Commander Armando, Armando, Owen Bailey. [SPEAKER_03]: Alright, so, Bailey. [SPEAKER_03]: Bailey started out as a basic level grant trying to work his way up in the Turian-dominated Police Force, and then enter sovereign, or sorry, the unprecedented [SPEAKER_03]: We first meet Bailey in Mass Effect 2, where he is supervising the entryway to the Zakera Ward on the Citadel.

[SPEAKER_03]: And physically he looks to be in his mid-30s, but he's a human in Mass Effect, so he looks pretty much the same age as everyone else to me. [SPEAKER_03]: He's got striking blue eyes and brownish hair and a standard military issue to flat top haircut, complemented by the standard 5 o'clock shadow.

[SPEAKER_08]: he also just kind of looks exhausted all the time um the military haircut probably a leftover habit from his time serving with the Alliance Navy I can see that uh definitely I you know I was in ROTC in college never commissioned but I was in ROTC and I basically kept the haircut here it's pretty long now but um yeah now I get a skin fade though [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, the Navy didn't suit Bailey well, wishing to have a stationary life so he could spend time with his family.

[SPEAKER_08]: Still, it's a difficult situation to manage with his promotion to captain. [SPEAKER_08]: He ends up spending far too much time away from home anyway, and he comments on this, and how it really still bothers him. [SPEAKER_03]: Yet he does end up having a second child sometime between Mass Effect 2 and 3 because he only talks about his son in Mass Effect 2 but then talks about his children, a son in a daughter in Mass Effect 3.

[SPEAKER_03]: So obviously he does get to spend a little bit of time at home every once in a while. [SPEAKER_03]: but also being assigned as a care award doesn't help the situation with his wife. [SPEAKER_03]: According to Bailey, the award is a rough and tumble precinct. [SPEAKER_03]: That would require a New York City level of policing to subdue.

[SPEAKER_03]: And doesn't that just hit a little differently in 2026? [SPEAKER_08]: You know, it's crazy about that comment. [SPEAKER_08]: When you compare the number of constables that CSEC has to the total population of CSEC, there are actually like three times more cops. [SPEAKER_08]: per 10,000 people then there are in New York City.

[SPEAKER_08]: I think it comes out to like something like 151 seasick constables per 10,000 people and New York is like 48. [SPEAKER_03]: Wow okay so either that makes the care award extremely bad or New York City not as bad as we think it is. [SPEAKER_08]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_08]: I mean, I lived in New York.

[SPEAKER_08]: I liked it. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, there are some sketchy areas, but I, one of the best times in my life. [SPEAKER_08]: Only thing that I didn't like, there wasn't enough green, you know, concrete jungle and everything. [SPEAKER_08]: But Bailey is kind of problematic in some ways, because he's totally okay asking for bribes or not asking.

[SPEAKER_08]: Not asking for bribes, rather accepting the bribes. [SPEAKER_08]: I guess there's a distinction to be made there. [SPEAKER_08]: He's fine accepting the bribes. [SPEAKER_08]: He's also cool with just absolutely walloping suspects and beating the hell out of him and allowing Shepard Spectre not and a known assassin to illegally interrogate a man while being restraint.

[SPEAKER_08]: That would be Elias Kellum, if I remember right. [SPEAKER_08]: And let's not forget that he only tolerates fromalities, quote, until it stops people from doing their jobs. [SPEAKER_08]: Oh, Bailey and Garus would get along very well. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: So it comes as no one's shock that Bailey prefers field work to sitting by the desk and he doesn't like the walking talking suits of politicians.

[SPEAKER_08]: He's he's he's very much more a street cop. [SPEAKER_03]: very much so and it kind of shows after a while especially because it's like we think of Bailey and he's you know like the nice guy he helps us you know become become human again become alive again on the citadel and we feel for him when we see him get shot in Mass Effect 3 but then once we take a step back and really look about all the things he's willing to do it's it's not so good [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, yeah, I don't know if I would really want Bailey as a cop and my, my district on a sleigh Like all it takes for me to get my ass walked as to be suspected of a crime So I can just be accused And you know who who gives a fuck about the evidence.

[SPEAKER_08]: Why don't you just beat the hell out of me and find out [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the formality is we'll deal with all that later. [SPEAKER_03]: But on a lighter note, he does make a few jokes about how human food on the Citadel totally sucks and that he misses soccer, I salmon, which as a native to the PNW, I feel you on that one, Bailey.

[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, when I heard that, I immediately thought Bailey is totally from the Pacific with West. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Who else needs your talk about soccer? [SPEAKER_04]: I'll be seated. [SPEAKER_03]: Right. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't I don't know any other people asking us. [SPEAKER_03]: I guess very true.

[SPEAKER_03]: Washingtonians. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, Washingtonians or Donions. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, Alaskans. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: People for Indonesia Columbia. [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks. [SPEAKER_03]: You know what? [SPEAKER_03]: A lot of people in Mass Effectra from British Columbia. [SPEAKER_03]: I bet you that that's also where Bailey's from.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: But we actually don't know. [SPEAKER_08]: Bailey's out here bare-maxing and gesturing. [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, sorry, Genesis, I interrupted. [SPEAKER_03]: As most people do, while playing bass effect to, we meet Bailey pretty early on in the game. [SPEAKER_03]: When we visit the Citadel to try and find our friends from the last game, where to get some of our resources back, all the standard things that you would want to do from coming back from the dead, and Bailey can help us reinstate our alive status, or you can, in fact, do [SPEAKER_03]: If you find your way to the council without talking to Bailey first, he offers you a very different form of help after talking to them.

[SPEAKER_03]: Quote, a willingness to clear out citizens from any area where the commander is working a case. [SPEAKER_08]: for me I didn't you know I didn't see this too suspiciously I feel like just for me I took this as to mean like he's just gonna be like all right guys like get on get on and don't get [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm sorry, but with the way that he's willing to illegally interrogate, allow illegal interrogations, he only pays attention to formalities.

[SPEAKER_03]: Some of the times, maybe some civilian doesn't want to leave their home, and Bailey is just going to make the problem go away. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I can see him kind of going his own way with this, though it's such a weird kind of dynamic with Bailey and this is probably due to Michael Hogan's amazing voice acting that I like Bailey, like I look despite all of this, I feel like a positive feeling toward Bailey, even though I wouldn't trust him as a cop in my district.

[SPEAKER_03]: No, I feel the same way. [SPEAKER_03]: I like Bailey a lot. [SPEAKER_03]: I really, really do. [SPEAKER_08]: Bailey is a requirement, though. [SPEAKER_08]: You got to talk to Bailey at some point because you need to talk to him to advance thane story and garrases. [SPEAKER_08]: It's during Thane's mission to search for Koliat that Bailey shows up on Cerberus's radar as a potential recruit.

[SPEAKER_03]: And that kind of worries me, because now service sees Bailey as a potential to help and assist with the coup, because of the way that he's willing to turn his head, the way that he's willing to accept these bribes and do things. [SPEAKER_03]: And we see this. [SPEAKER_03]: because he is one of the non-squaddy humans who gets some attention in the external media, specifically in Mass Effect Inquisition, a Bailey has been planning a trip back to Earth to see his kid when everyone's favorite counselor, Udina claims that Csec has been compromised and is working against the council.

[SPEAKER_03]: Now, please restart the episode if you need a reminder on what happens when Bailey starts to execute, uh, it starts to investigate executive Palin. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, it seems like he was quite easily manipulated by Odina. [SPEAKER_08]: Bailey did not ask a lot of questions. [SPEAKER_03]: No, and he kind of just took the orders from the council that he's used to talking to the most.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, despite the fact that like Udena doesn't have unilateral direct authority over Bailey. [SPEAKER_03]: No, because Bailey is a part of C-SEC not part of the council. [SPEAKER_03]: He's not council security. [SPEAKER_03]: He's citadel security. [SPEAKER_08]: And he would if answering to the council at all, it would be the council at large like the whole council.

[SPEAKER_03]: not just one counselor. [SPEAKER_03]: But I also think that that is the human bias. [SPEAKER_03]: If your human counselor is telling you to go do something, you're going to just take the call. [SPEAKER_03]: Now, because of all of this, Bailey gets his promotion to Commander, but is forced to miss out on his vacation to see his kids.

[SPEAKER_03]: And to me, that sucks a broken quad. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, for me, I'm like, hope it was worth it, douchebag. [SPEAKER_08]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: I much rather would have seen my kids then go through all of the bullshit with Udina. [SPEAKER_03]: But the next time we see Bailey, he is still on the citadel, but is now in charge of the seasick operations for the citadel embassies.

[SPEAKER_03]: He helps us acclimate to the new layout of the citadel, once again, I mean, he helps us understand that we are in the area of the Percidium and Borns that we just haven't seen before. [SPEAKER_08]: And we see him again once more during the server's coup attempt on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_08]: You mentioned it already.

[SPEAKER_08]: He gets shot and The first time I saw that I was like, oh crap. [SPEAKER_08]: Like, and did we just witness Bayley getting killed? [SPEAKER_08]: About then all of a sudden he's like, nah, I'm good. [SPEAKER_08]: Stands up. [SPEAKER_08]: Like, and of course, Shepherd helps him, you know, he's there to rescue him.

[SPEAKER_08]: But Bayley is like the main reason that we are able to locate the salarian counselor and then force [SPEAKER_08]: I'm sorry, wait, we fight kindling before getting to a data. [SPEAKER_08]: If I remember. [SPEAKER_03]: You are right. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, that's that's the order of events there.

[SPEAKER_03]: But then of course we see Bailey bursting out of the elevator and seeing the aftermath and making everybody understand that shepherd is on the good side. [SPEAKER_08]: No, no. [SPEAKER_08]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_08]: Go ahead. [SPEAKER_03]: We can also see Udina once again in a scene that I hope to never experience on my own playthroughs, and that is if Shepherd kills Rex after sabotaging the genophage.

[SPEAKER_03]: Bailey shows up with a security detail to help take Rex down. [SPEAKER_03]: He is also the one to contact the morgue, stating that the body may be too heavy to be moved, and that's seeing him might be the best option. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, like good lord, man, like I know I see now I can see why Cerberus was potentially going to her crew, Bailey.

[SPEAKER_08]: But that is also the most excruciating scene that I have seen from, um, Mass Effect outside of like Tally's death. [SPEAKER_08]: That's excruciating, but like the Rex betrayal is like harder on a different level. [SPEAKER_08]: because like when you betray more than right he still goes through with it he can still go through with it if if if there are certain circumstances that are met you can still shoot him and then he can still go up and cure the genophage of course he'll die anyway but with Rex it's just like man like you can tell that Rex is hurt and that's one of the few times [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_03]: I've experienced the death of Tally in Mass Effect 3. [SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that personally for me that scene is harder because I had to experience it real time on my first ever playthrough. [SPEAKER_03]: But watching the videos of Rex just falling to his death and the hurt and betrayal you can [SPEAKER_03]: It got to you, deep.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, yeah, because it's like, you know, I trusted you, shepherd for years. [SPEAKER_08]: Like, and this is how it ends. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, it's just like, whoa, why would I do that? [SPEAKER_08]: Why would I do such a thing? [SPEAKER_08]: So maybe there are renegade fans who go full renegade and betray Rex, maybe you can walk me through your explanation there.

[SPEAKER_08]: Also, according to an in-game news report on the Citadel, that's how we find out Bayley's first name is Owen in Mass Effect 2. [SPEAKER_08]: But the weird part is his dossier from the lair of the Shadowbroker DLC, which I often forget to cite. [SPEAKER_08]: His first name is listed as Arrimando.

[SPEAKER_08]: So is it our Mondo? [SPEAKER_08]: Is it Owen? [SPEAKER_08]: The server sailing news report about C-SAC helping in the search for the stolen time square ball, which we covered. [SPEAKER_08]: I don't know how many episodes ago. [SPEAKER_08]: That's where we see his full name listed as our Mondo hyphen Owen.

[SPEAKER_08]: Bailey for the first time and this name is later affirmed by a personal log belonging to Bailey found during the mission priority Citadel 2 in Mass Effect 3. [SPEAKER_08]: I feel like this is probably like a retcon like to make it so that oh yeah, he just has both names [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it definitely feel like this is very retconny, but it kind of fits. [SPEAKER_03]: I think the name Armando fits his face better than just Owen. [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, Armando definitely sits him better. [SPEAKER_08]: I don't know why. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know either because it's not like Michael Hogan looks like an Armando, but maybe kind of sounds like one.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, when I think of Armando, I think of like a blue collar laborer who's drinking in the bar at 3 p.m. because he just worked from like 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oh god, no, I'm picturing more Antonio Bandaris. [SPEAKER_03]: Like that's why I think of when I hear Armando. [SPEAKER_08]: All right.

[SPEAKER_08]: We have two very different Armando's in our heads. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: Mine has a mustache. [SPEAKER_03]: So does mine. [SPEAKER_08]: Okay, at least there's that. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: We've talked a few times about Michael Hogan and he is the one who is the voice actor for Bailey, who I know from Battlestar Galactica, where he acted alongside Trisha Heffler, who is the voice of Edie, but other might listeners might know him as General Tellius in Skyrim or Doc Mitchell in Fallout New Vegas.

[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I was playing Fallout New Vegas like some time in the past several months and you know you wake up and Doc Mitchell's there and I was like, Bailey Oh, man, I must have enough for a while All right, what game is this? [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, but now for a couple hundred years, I guess or no, actually that would be going back in time Because falling in the phase Yeah, 2200, so that's wild [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, very different all two very different visions for the future.

[SPEAKER_08]: Um, that's all we have for the, this episode on Bailey and Palin. [SPEAKER_08]: Uh, I think it's been a blast getting back into the character episodes. [SPEAKER_08]: And I think, um, Genesis, we may be ready to transition over to talk about garrison. [SPEAKER_08]: Oh, 245 episodes in. [SPEAKER_03]: You haven't been avoiding garrison.

[SPEAKER_08]: I have. [SPEAKER_03]: You don't want. [SPEAKER_08]: because it's like such a like a monumental Olympian task to how do you accurately dissect Garrison's character and do him justice enough at least enough so that you don't piss off the rabid Garrison's families. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I will be editing this script a lot to make sure that that doesn't happen.

[SPEAKER_08]: Okay. [SPEAKER_08]: Well, all of you should rest assured that Genesis is going to keep me in line for the gear of subsets. [SPEAKER_08]: And yes, Red Shabbat is probably right. [SPEAKER_08]: Probably will be like five episodes. [SPEAKER_03]: I fully agree with the amount of content that there is in, especially with the different choices and the different aspects.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, are we talking renegade gear? [SPEAKER_03]: So are we talking [SPEAKER_03]: my name. [SPEAKER_03]: Whose pair are going to be in my head? [SPEAKER_08]: I'd like to meet her. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, I'm even wearing Renegade Red right now. [SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know if we've met Paragon Genesis before, we'll see if she emerges, but Garus, I think, is a great character to dive into, especially with my birthday coming up next month.

[SPEAKER_03]: I think it would be lovely to talk about my man. [SPEAKER_08]: There we go, yeah. [SPEAKER_08]: So we will be getting into the Garus episodes. [SPEAKER_08]: Finally, rejoice. [SPEAKER_08]: I have everyone who loves Geris, can rejoice now. [SPEAKER_08]: Um, including that one guy who left a mean comment on our last episode.

[SPEAKER_08]: He should have probably held his tongue for a week one more week. [SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, um, that's all we got for this week's Spectre's, we'll be back next week, uh, with an episode on our boy Geris Ficarion. [SPEAKER_08]: Until next time, Spectre's, we should go. [SPEAKER_08]: Take care, everybody.
