[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite lorecast on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the Mass Effect lorecast. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm in seven the legend. [SPEAKER_07]: And I'm Genesis, join us. [SPEAKER_03]: As we explore along tides of light and through the shoals of dust to see where this lore began.
[SPEAKER_07]: And consider where it may go. [SPEAKER_03]: Specters welcome back. [SPEAKER_03]: We are talking about garris today again, and I have my wonderful co-host joining me as always, Genesis. [SPEAKER_03]: You are wonderful yet again. [SPEAKER_07]: Yes, I'm going to get through with the source for your birthday.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not really big into dinosaurs to be honest. [SPEAKER_03]: I got a laugh for someone else that like makes the joke. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, accurately, in seven. [SPEAKER_03]: That's annoying. [SPEAKER_03]: It's not a dinosaur. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, but speaking of dinosaurs, Garus is somewhat dinosaur appearing, isn't it?
[SPEAKER_07]: God, okay, yes, the Velociraptor boyfriend. [SPEAKER_07]: I am aware of the moniker. [SPEAKER_03]: His little, his little, uh, mandibles. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I love the first time we get to see touring and Mass Effect one. [SPEAKER_03]: It's nihilist and then watching that video, the dispatch.
[SPEAKER_03]: His little mandibles flutter. [SPEAKER_03]: We never get to see that again, I think. [SPEAKER_07]: Oh no, we do, we definitely do. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, well, we'll have to get into that later because we left off Garrison's journey in Mass Effect 1. [SPEAKER_03]: And now we get to dive into some really greedy character building stuff for him.
[SPEAKER_03]: Remember, we actually talked about Garrison's origins and his home-world comic back in episode of 112, so 135 episodes ago. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, we didn't finish that comic, and now we get to cover how it is exactly that Garrison got betrayed by Sidonus, and how it impacted his relationship with his father.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, if you remember when Garus was at C-SAC, he butted heads with his father pretty often. [SPEAKER_03]: And his father was actually acting as his supervisor, it appeared. [SPEAKER_03]: But it came to a head when his father allowed a suspect to be let free, because Geras acquired the evidence against that suspect illegally.
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's putting it extremely lightly. [SPEAKER_03]: A lot of crimes probably that Geras himself broke. [SPEAKER_03]: gaining the evidence. [SPEAKER_03]: So gear storms off and he doesn't talk to his father after that for quite a while. [SPEAKER_03]: But he never forgot the words that his fathers told him do things right or don't do them at all.
[SPEAKER_03]: Which is so turian. [SPEAKER_07]: It is very, very terrain. [SPEAKER_07]: I also, I'm not quite sure about this major conflict of interest to be your son's supervisor. [SPEAKER_03]: Right, sir. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, as a human, it definitely seems off and wrong, but as a Turian, it does kind of make sense, because Turian culture says that when a subordinate fails, the leader is blamed, because they were the ones who were supposed to know their subordinates limits.
[SPEAKER_07]: and who better to know you and your skill set than the person who raised you. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh man, that's a really great insight about Turian lore there because Garus' dad is extra hard on him. [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, it sounds like any Turing supervisor might be rough on their subordinates because it's gonna come back to bite them if the subordinates fail.
[SPEAKER_03]: But if it's your own son, yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: That's like a recipe for being extremely hard on your own son. [SPEAKER_03]: And it's not like Garrison's father was abusive, but he wasn't forgiving at all. [SPEAKER_03]: uh, and we see that in the beginning of that comic, and that we talked about in episode 112, where it starts off with Garrison as father at the shooting range, and uh, basically his father tells him, no, you're gonna, you're gonna keep practicing until you get it right.
[SPEAKER_07]: And you're going to keep going, even if there's looks like a child, he looks no more older than like 10 maybe due to the high differential that we see and it's a good thing to keep this in mind as we move further into the episode about how the leader is supposed to be the one in control and is supposed to know exactly their support and its limitations.
[SPEAKER_07]: especially when it comes to Turian on Turian. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and so that's the beginning of that comic. [SPEAKER_03]: And then he basically ends up saying, Do things right or don't do them at all. [SPEAKER_03]: Later during that fight when Garrison's Atc second his father is a supervisor of sorts.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, [SPEAKER_03]: Fast forward into after-masspect one, Garris gets very disillusioned with, I guess you can say, law enforcement, crime and justice, or criminal justice on the Citadel, and decides to just leave. [SPEAKER_03]: And he heads to the lawless station of Omega. [SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's a really peculiar place for him to choose.
[SPEAKER_03]: Don't you? [SPEAKER_03]: Because he's choosing Omega, not just because it's lawless. [SPEAKER_03]: There's tons of lawless places around the Milky Way, but he chooses Omega. [SPEAKER_03]: And why do you think that is? [SPEAKER_07]: I think that there's a lot of different reasons. [SPEAKER_07]: I think that he goes there because he knows that he can have change.
[SPEAKER_07]: he can make an impact, and there's no red tape, there's no bureaucracy. [SPEAKER_07]: Sure you have to follow Ari's rules, but Ari's rules are nowhere near as regimented as the Churian government and nowhere near as strict as Citadel. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and, and that's exactly what I was thinking.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's so that garris can operate the way that garris thinks is okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Earlier when he was pursuing that suspect on the Citadel, I pulled up while you were talking, I pulled up the actual comic here in front of me. [SPEAKER_03]: And there's a panel that shows garris choking the suspect and like slamming him on the ground.
[SPEAKER_03]: It says, uh, easier for some fed up with all the Citadel's red tape, I took matters into my own hands. [SPEAKER_03]: And the suspect is screaming, you can't do this to me, you're seasick. [SPEAKER_03]: And Garrison's not anymore, Kishpa. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm free to break the law just like you.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm looking for a reason to do it. [SPEAKER_03]: That poison you push, where do you get it? [SPEAKER_03]: Who's your supplier? [SPEAKER_03]: And you know, a kiss boss says, Omega, it all comes from Omega. [SPEAKER_03]: So I feel like there is a layered reason why he chooses Omega here to kind of set out what he originally meant to do to finish the job, because for better or for worse, something that we notice about Garrison, he does not like leaving a case unfinished.
[SPEAKER_07]: No, Garus does not like loose ends at all. [SPEAKER_07]: And Kispa is the criminal that his dad let go free. [SPEAKER_07]: So his first act of rebellion of leaving Seasek is to go tie up the loose end that is dad created. [SPEAKER_03]: which is ironically, like he's following his dad's advice of doing things right or not doing them at all.
[SPEAKER_03]: In garris's mind, he's following that kind of. [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, it's interesting, you frame that as an active rebellion because it is, it is, it's an active rebellion, but it's kind of using his father's rigidity against him. [SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, you fast forward and at afterlife, [SPEAKER_03]: Geras connects with a like-minded terrain, named Sedonus, and they basically agreed a team up.
[SPEAKER_03]: They recognize that Omega's crime problem is bigger than the two of us, they say, and so they decide to recruit an entire team. [SPEAKER_03]: I want to also draw attention to the art style in this particular comic. [SPEAKER_03]: I absolutely loved it. [SPEAKER_03]: It was so gritty, you know, and I'm looking at some of the panels right now.
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's very much Gotham built. [SPEAKER_03]: It's like very Gotham built where [SPEAKER_03]: you know, these two kind of guys and vigilante see each other from across the bar. [SPEAKER_03]: There we go. [SPEAKER_03]: We got Genesis holding it up. [SPEAKER_03]: If there was any kind of doubt that Garus might have been a DC superhero.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that can be quashed with these comics. [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, Gareth is standing outside this neon glow of after life at the very beginning, and then he confronts a Crogan that's threatening a citizen inside the bar, and the Crogan saying you want trouble, you just failed it. [SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, garris is basically like, you know, over here, idiot, you know, the part I think they're really pisses garris off is I'm going to, the, the, the, the crowgons says I'm going to drink out of your stupid turian skull.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, that sounds so much like something grunt would say, uh, and, but it's also a crogan and red armor. [SPEAKER_07]: I thought it was Rex for a moment until I noticed the blood pack symbol on his on his shoulder on his arm. [SPEAKER_03]: Yep, yes, it's a blood pack member and without saying we're a garrison throws him off and then there's the next panel shows several blood pack members, one with a knife approaching garrison the other turn and garrison's intermonologue saying I had a feeling I waited long enough the answer would find me.
[SPEAKER_03]: answer being the question was where to start and so it's that's that's pretty much how he meets Sedonus. [SPEAKER_03]: Sedonus was the terrain that he saved. [SPEAKER_03]: So you know we already talked a little bit about why Garus chose Omega. [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's interesting that Sedonus also chose Omega.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that him being this vigilante, both of them actually being this vigilante operating in the lawless corner of the galaxy, they can totally pursue this ends justifies the means, kind of deal, but that doesn't really make for a good team player, ironically, that makes for someone who wants to do things their way.
[SPEAKER_07]: Mhm. [SPEAKER_07]: And we don't know a whole lot about Sedona's to, you know, really figure out, you know, why he decided to team up with Garus, what his background is and, you know, what he is doing on Omega and why he's choosing to follow orders. [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: But Garus is just kind of happy to have a [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so then the next part, basically, the next arc that this comic goes into, is that garris is adopting the moniker archangel. [SPEAKER_03]: probably an homage to the older woman who called him an angel for saving her life shortly before in this comic.
[SPEAKER_03]: And word spreads quickly. [SPEAKER_03]: There's other people who want to join up in this group is squad grossed 12 members. [SPEAKER_03]: I find 12 to be the interesting number here because [SPEAKER_03]: And there's a pretty diverse lineup of special operatives here, including ex-military, former C-SEC agents, a salarian explosives expert, and a brilliant battalion tech expert who, quote, could hack any system ever built.
[SPEAKER_07]: But he wasn't the nicest guy, but they overlooked that part. [SPEAKER_07]: I also wanted to point out that it was in this comic book that I learned that Gareth isn't Archangel. [SPEAKER_07]: His squad was called the Archangel Squad. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, although I think it's probably fair to say that Garus is Archangel because that's not what Garus was calling himself.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's what his dossier was from the elusive man. [SPEAKER_03]: So the elusive and was referring to him as Archangel. [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, Garus's squad was the Archangel squad because they were trying to provide some kind of Overwatch of Omega. [SPEAKER_07]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_07]: I just found it interesting that it wasn't just like his name alone.
[SPEAKER_07]: It was the entire squad name, but now he's the only surviving member of the squad, so he's the only one that uses that stuff. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And part of the way that that word spread, I said word spread quickly, part of the way that word spread is through a total Batman move that garris pulls when he's like fighting crime.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's like fighting these suspects and gang members and like one panel says, tell them archangel says enough. [SPEAKER_03]: and then the next one says, tell them Archangel says, it's over. [SPEAKER_03]: Tell them Archangel says, run. [SPEAKER_03]: And then you see, you start to see, there's a blue sun's member running and he says, oh, okay, you'll, so yeah, that's how that word spreads.
[SPEAKER_03]: And the reputation of their squad precedes them, probably for worse to be honest, if I were advising Geras on how to go about this, I would say don't be very public about it. [SPEAKER_07]: Hmm, I mean, he's still building his reputation, so I think making a moniker for himself and getting his name known out there that he is a protector.
[SPEAKER_07]: He is out there trying to do the right thing and for people to come to him as like, I need help. [SPEAKER_07]: How else are you gonna, how else are you gonna spread that word? [SPEAKER_07]: If he's... [SPEAKER_03]: I had this idea of like, what if he like tried to maintain complete invisibility and anonymity and instead of, you know, branding himself, just acting almost like a ghost.
[SPEAKER_07]: Hmm, but that's not very turian. [SPEAKER_03]: It's not. [SPEAKER_07]: You get the guts, the glory, and the name. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: You have to make a name for yourself. [SPEAKER_03]: Garus does wear face paint, and he's not afraid to tell us where he stands. [SPEAKER_03]: There is a really good quote here in the comic that explains some of the motivation for why the people joined up on his squad.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's actually a good insight into Keras' own psyche, the second part of it. [SPEAKER_03]: Here's the quote, it says, every member of my team had lost someone to Omega. [SPEAKER_03]: I gave them hope. [SPEAKER_07]: It's very powerful, and when I was reading through this comic, I read every line in Garrison's voice in my head, and hearing, I can hear that being a line in the game, something Garrison would have said, giving hope to the people, is something that he wants.
[SPEAKER_03]: It is, for some reason when I read it, it comes across as like pretty arrogant. [SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean? [SPEAKER_03]: Like, oh, did you garrison, you know, are, oh, you're their savior, you know, like, you know. [SPEAKER_03]: And we all said to remember that garrison's very young.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yes. [SPEAKER_07]: At this point, he's somewhere between the ages of 27 to 29. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and he thinks he has it all figured out at this point anyway before getting betrayed, I think, and I find it particularly ironic that [SPEAKER_03]: who are all willing to fight toward the same goal, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's a very diverse group. [SPEAKER_03]: So he's almost like emulating shepherd in this regard. [SPEAKER_07]: Mmm, that is a very key and valid point that Garus is trying to be the next shepherd. [SPEAKER_07]: I trained under shepherd. [SPEAKER_07]: I was there fighting by their side.
[SPEAKER_07]: I was there taking down the saving the citadel from sovereign. [SPEAKER_07]: And now that shepherd is gone, I'm going to pick up the mantle and keep going. [SPEAKER_07]: It's something that drives Garus forward. [SPEAKER_03]: But there's also the very, like, if we're looking at the etymology of it, like the just the words themselves and the semantics of the words, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: Shepherd, Archangel, both very, you know, Christian coded and religion coded, where, you know, the Shepherd, the good Shepherd would refer to God, right? [SPEAKER_03]: And Archangel being God's right hand angel. [SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, the, um, the, um, the feeling there is a bit on the nose.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, I, I also find it pretty ironic that because in, in Mass Effect 1, um, before you can really shape garrises ideology, garris makes a number of insensitive, uh, racial comments to other members of the squad like Rex. [SPEAKER_07]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I know we definitely talked about that last episode where he, you know, he has to build rapport and learn about these other, about these other races and species.
[SPEAKER_07]: And I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that he grew up on Palovin. [SPEAKER_07]: You know, he, and then moved to the Citadel where he was mainly among [SPEAKER_07]: other Koreans in C-SEC and the only other members of other races were criminals he was going after. [SPEAKER_07]: And now through Shepherd's pushing and Shepherd's molding and being on the Normandy, he's seeing other races as equals willing to work with them.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's definitely, you know, without Shepard's guidance and leadership, Gareth's would have never done this. [SPEAKER_03]: I think he would have never been able to, perhaps never wanted to. [SPEAKER_03]: Now, there is... [SPEAKER_03]: Basically, this climax of the comic, where the squad is just declaring, the archangel squad is declaring an all-out war on Omega's crime factions.
[SPEAKER_03]: We know them that the big three blue sons, blood pack, and eclipse. [SPEAKER_03]: The blue guys, the red guys, the yellow guys. [SPEAKER_03]: And they operate with just one non-negotiable rule, just one no civilian casualties. [SPEAKER_03]: which is rather honorable, especially for Omega.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yep. [SPEAKER_03]: As much as we've said, the ends justify the means for Garras. [SPEAKER_03]: It's not black and white. [SPEAKER_03]: I know he doesn't know what to do with Grey, but he does have one rule. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, and I think I think this, I think that this does fall in line with his black and white way of thinking that civilians or non-combatants, they are the good guys we are here to rescue, save and protect the good guys.
[SPEAKER_07]: And then everybody else is the enemy able to be destroyed. [SPEAKER_03]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: And now, um, if those gangs were smart enough, or had the right intel, they would have used human shields, right? [SPEAKER_03]: Human shields of civilians. [SPEAKER_03]: And that would have been the classic superhero's conundrum thrown in Garrison's face.
[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder how he would have reacted, right? [SPEAKER_07]: I don't know because he hadn't had that renegade or paragon interrupt with Shepard in the Shadowbroker DLC. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think he would have taken the shot given what he did in the medical clinic in the wards. [SPEAKER_07]: You're right.
[SPEAKER_07]: I do believe that theirs would be cocky enough to take a shot with a human civilian life. [SPEAKER_03]: But I don't think if he messed up, I don't think he'd be able to live with himself. [SPEAKER_03]: true. [SPEAKER_07]: So he would hold that go. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: He would definitely hold that guilt in a very, very heavy and, you know, unhealthy way.
[SPEAKER_03]: But anyway, the archangels squad, they, they are hitting shipments. [SPEAKER_03]: They're trying to basically attack the logistics of these crimes to make it harder for them to operate. [SPEAKER_03]: And ultimately, trying to herd them into these kill zones that they've set up. [SPEAKER_03]: So it's like this grand orchestrated plan of decimating the organized crime syndicates.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, as we know from aspect 2, not everything goes according to their plan. [SPEAKER_03]: And as the credits and resources are piling up, there's this rift that forms. [SPEAKER_03]: So as they're gaining more prestige, more fame, more money, the squad wants to settle down and enjoy that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Garris does not. [SPEAKER_03]: Big surprise. [SPEAKER_03]: Garris definitely wants to continue on with this crusade. [SPEAKER_03]: And he's pushing them harder and demanding a total purge of the station. [SPEAKER_07]: Here, I think Garrison's emulating his father, because you got to do the job right or not at all.
[SPEAKER_07]: And if your goal was to purge Omega of all crime, and they're still crime on Omega, you haven't done the job. [SPEAKER_03]: Or exactly, yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And also, this falls completely in line with the Turian military ideology of making sure that the threat never becomes a threat again.
[SPEAKER_03]: So attack hard enough. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so overwhelming force and I think we should talk about how Garrison's obsession with getting that job done starts to blind him. [SPEAKER_03]: Because he's on a one track mind and he's like a horse headed for the barn, right? [SPEAKER_03]: Doesn't see anything to left or right of him.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's full steam ahead. [SPEAKER_03]: But that rigidity [SPEAKER_03]: can be his downfall. [SPEAKER_03]: And his refusal to see the cracks forming in his team's morale is because of his own relentless drive. [SPEAKER_07]: It very much is he has the blinders up for sure. [SPEAKER_07]: But another side of this is that Garrison also hasn't experienced the trials that forged [SPEAKER_07]: No matter what background you picked for Shepard, they've survived something, be it thrash or maws or war crimes, whatever you choice, and while in a position of leadership, Shepard has done those things.
[SPEAKER_07]: And Garrett, Garrett hasn't yet, I mean, sure he survived the events of Mass Effect 1, but that was with Shepard as his mentor. [SPEAKER_07]: He was not the one in charge, and now, [SPEAKER_07]: Garris is trying to live up to that shepherd mantle and failing to do so because he doesn't know how to leave yet.
[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, I think the had Garris completely succeeded with purging Omega of all the gangs. [SPEAKER_03]: He wouldn't have stopped there. [SPEAKER_03]: That wouldn't, we, I think we know Garris well enough to know that he's not going to just like sit on his butt and be like, okay, well, I did it.
[SPEAKER_07]: Right, the garrison between M1 and 2 never would have wanted to settle down and stick his toes in the sand. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it's because he's trying to fill a void. [SPEAKER_03]: So, like you mentioned, Garrison did not have that prior leadership experience, like Shepard did. [SPEAKER_03]: And because of that, there are holes in his plan.
[SPEAKER_03]: And the mercenary gangs realize they can fight dirty. [SPEAKER_03]: And so they're going to try and break up that squad from within. [SPEAKER_03]: So they capture Sedonus and then they kind of force him to lure Gareth away under the guys of a good blood pack gun running operation. [SPEAKER_03]: So it's a sophisticated kind of distraction strategy where they're using Sedonus as bait.
[SPEAKER_07]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_07]: Yep. [SPEAKER_07]: And that is one of the things that would have gotten garris to go blindly in. [SPEAKER_07]: Uh, okay. [SPEAKER_07]: All right. [SPEAKER_07]: So don't us needs help. [SPEAKER_07]: My subordinate needs help. [SPEAKER_07]: And there's gun running going on.
[SPEAKER_07]: This is exactly what we do blinders on straight in. [SPEAKER_03]: yeah and sure enough he he dives head first in and this this kind of reminds me of that scene in game of thrones uh where um Ramsey Bolton captures John's nose uh younger brother uh Rick on and parades him out in front of the forces uh and then tells him to run toward John and while Rick on is running toward John [SPEAKER_03]: Ramsey fires the arrow and kills Rick on just before John and meanwhile John charges at like thousands of forces by himself There's a very gear as move Yes, yes, that is very gears [SPEAKER_03]: So, Garras realizes that it is a trap, but it's too late.
[SPEAKER_03]: And he's standing a pleatly isolated and dark hallway, and he says, When I finally got there, I found nothing. [SPEAKER_03]: No trace of gun running, no sign of Sedonus. [SPEAKER_03]: It didn't make sense, not at first. [SPEAKER_03]: And that's not surprisingly that it wouldn't make sense that Garras would not expect betrayal.
[SPEAKER_03]: because he would never betray anyone. [SPEAKER_07]: That's a very bad point. [SPEAKER_07]: I didn't really think about how Gareth has not had to suffer a major... Well, I mean, other than the death of Shepherd, he hasn't really suffered major loss. [SPEAKER_07]: Are you in with your dad is one thing, but dad's still around.
[SPEAKER_07]: You can always mend a relationship. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I feel like, you know, garris because he's got these blinders on because he ultimately wants to do the right thing. [SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't expect anyone to ever betray him, because like he doesn't even think in those terms, especially with his squad that he had built such a rapport with over the past, I don't even know how long, weeks, months.
[SPEAKER_03]: And [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I think it emotionally changes him as a person in that moment that he realizes. [SPEAKER_07]: Yep. [SPEAKER_07]: It's my sweet baby boy right there. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he doesn't trust. [SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't trust anymore. [SPEAKER_03]: And it completely breaks his ability to do that.
[SPEAKER_03]: And he becomes this even more hyper-isolated vigilante after that. [SPEAKER_03]: And that's how Shepherd finds him, right? [SPEAKER_03]: So, [SPEAKER_03]: before a shepherd finds him, and this comic kind of goes right up to that moment. [SPEAKER_03]: So, but before a shepherd finds him, Garus is stranded, right, where we find him in that building at the end of the bridge.
[SPEAKER_03]: And the combined, you know, blue suns, blood pack, eclipse are bombing the hideout and slaughter. [SPEAKER_03]: They slaughter the remaining 10 members of that squad. [SPEAKER_03]: And Garus comes back to a scene of total devastation. [SPEAKER_03]: That's what he finds, basically. [SPEAKER_03]: And as he opens fire on the invading Merks, his mind flashes back to his father's teachings, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: For some reason, it says, in that moment, I thought about my father, about every argument we ever had, about what it was he tried to drill into me and how hard I thought not to listen, and how it now cost me everything. [SPEAKER_07]: The powerful line. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, thank you. [SPEAKER_07]: And even in our own lives, it's like, yeah, my parents told me a lot of things growing up that I did not listen to, and to think about it, this garrows is going through the same exact thing, where his dad only wanted the best for him, but only knew how to give it within the means of the Turing culture.
[SPEAKER_07]: I'm trying to show you, son. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And this pain, you can hear the pain and garruses in our monologue here, basically saying, I'm sorry, dad. [SPEAKER_03]: I should have listened. [SPEAKER_03]: I should have listened to you. [SPEAKER_03]: I was wrong.
[SPEAKER_03]: and garrison being a particularly prideful person, difficult to admit that he was wrong ever. [SPEAKER_03]: So garrison realizes that his dad was right by abandoning structure and rules entirely for a rogue crusade, garrison took shortcuts that ultimately cost the lives of the people who trusted him.
[SPEAKER_03]: At least that's the realization that garrison is taking from this. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And garrison makes one last call. [SPEAKER_03]: And he thinks, well, this is the end of the line, right? [SPEAKER_03]: There's just one thorough clip left. [SPEAKER_03]: Garus is up on that perch with a sniper.
[SPEAKER_03]: And he makes this long distance call to his dad on Paladin to try and make him in. [SPEAKER_03]: But his dad hears that gunfire in the background on the call and asks him what's going on. [SPEAKER_03]: And then quickly, Garus kind of gives him this coded message, not spelling it out, but his dad realizes what's going on.
[SPEAKER_03]: And he understands that his son is in this desperate last stand. [SPEAKER_03]: Whereas Garus sounds resigned to his fate, his dad is offering this uncharacteristic, you know, [SPEAKER_03]: uh... here's part of that panel dialogue uh... garrison dad says no matter how bad things are falling apart around you as long as you have one at least one bullet left you can still get the job done understand garrison's yeah thanks dad for everything [SPEAKER_03]: And that's not the end of the call, actually.
[SPEAKER_03]: I really love the way that this happens. [SPEAKER_03]: So the end of the call after they go back and forth about, you know, how to kind of get out of this situation, Garris, is still kind of sounding resigned. [SPEAKER_03]: As his dad says, you finish up what you have to do there, and then you come on home to Palavan.
[SPEAKER_03]: We have a lot to sort out as his dad is saying that. [SPEAKER_03]: Garrison's looking through his scope and he sees an in seven on a chest plate. [SPEAKER_03]: And then Garrison says, I have to go now, don't worry about me, I'll make it home when I can. [SPEAKER_03]: The odds just got a lot better.
[SPEAKER_07]: It's so good, it's so good. [SPEAKER_03]: And that's the end of that comic. [SPEAKER_03]: So it's so great. [SPEAKER_03]: He catches that glimpse of that in seven albums, emblem and the odds just got a lot better. [SPEAKER_03]: It's such a great ending to that. [SPEAKER_03]: And it's also gives you a new perspective and a new appreciation for what was happening in literally the moments leading up to when Shepard sees Garrison Mass Effect, too.
[SPEAKER_07]: mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_07]: It also it brings a little bit of lightheartedness to that situation where it's like, Garus is talking about how he's only got like one thermal clip left and you can Garus can also shoot at Shepherd testing their shields and all these little fun moments that it's like [SPEAKER_07]: Seeing Shepard instantly revitalized Garus and gave him more hope, he was willing to die in this moment.
[SPEAKER_07]: He knew that this was his last chance, so he wanted to call and make a men's to his dad. [SPEAKER_07]: He wanted to figure, you know, like put things to rest with him and was willing to accept his fate. [SPEAKER_07]: but seeing Shepard, seeing one of his best friends, I'm back from the dead.
[SPEAKER_07]: We don't know how Gary says no idea how yet, but he knew that the N7 symbol stood for hope, and that's what he claimed to. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I I feel like this this breakthrough that he has with his dad right beforehand is like so critical to to that, um, you know, kind of giving garrison sense of peace that he didn't have.
[SPEAKER_03]: in Mass Effect 1, where he had stormed off and not spoken to his father, and so long, and he was extra of a bellious when we had him in the, you know, next to the make-o on the Normandy. [SPEAKER_03]: So a lot of things happening in this short time frame for Gareth's character development.
[SPEAKER_03]: and then Shepherd gets there. [SPEAKER_03]: Right? [SPEAKER_03]: Um, so it's, it's, it's, when I was playing through Mass Effect II and then Garris later told me about Sedona's and that you, you know, betrayed the squad and that he needed to get revenge on Sedona's and make things right.
[SPEAKER_03]: I forget what he says. [SPEAKER_03]: He owes me 10 bottles or 11 bottles and I plan to collect something like that. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, [SPEAKER_03]: But for some reason, when Garus was talking about it, I was imagining that this was something that happened like months and months ago.
[SPEAKER_03]: But it literally just happened before Shepard met up with Garus. [SPEAKER_03]: So it's still super fresh and Garus's mind. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, it wow. [SPEAKER_07]: I didn't really put that together because the comic it doesn't give us like a big timeline or anything like that for how long the Sedonus and crew were all together.
[SPEAKER_07]: But we do know that the events happened one right after another. [SPEAKER_07]: The betrayal, the garrison's holding up in their, in their stronghold and then shepherd's showing up. [SPEAKER_07]: That all happens within like, [SPEAKER_07]: The blood pack, the big three did talk about how garris had been hold up there for a while.
[SPEAKER_07]: I think there was a timeframe that they gave us. [SPEAKER_07]: So it might have been like a week that they had been fighting. [SPEAKER_03]: Right, but it was still very recent, like very top of mind for garris. [SPEAKER_03]: So, anyway, that's kind of how the comic ends and we have a sound effect here that you uploaded Genesis.
[SPEAKER_07]: I did, okay, I know that I promised I would wait to talk about the romance aspect of garrison until we get there, but I have to play this line. [SPEAKER_07]: because the comic came out two years after the game did. [SPEAKER_07]: So obviously the comic book writers knew the romance lines that were used in the game.
[SPEAKER_07]: And I know that it's not a direct correlation, but this is the scene after Shepard and Garrison have decided to become a full couple. [SPEAKER_07]: They're locked in scene, and it's just the fact that bullets are involved. [SPEAKER_07]: I have to play this line. [SPEAKER_03]: They got it.
[SPEAKER_03]: So here I'll go ahead and hit play. [SPEAKER_07]: So when should I book the room? [SPEAKER_05]: I'd wait if you're okay with it. [SPEAKER_05]: Disrupt the crew is little as possible and take that last chance to find some calm just before the storm. [SPEAKER_05]: You know me, I always like to save it last shot before popping the heat sink.
[SPEAKER_05]: Wait, that metaphor just went somewhere horrible. [SPEAKER_07]: I'll let you get back to work. [SPEAKER_05]: Right, because I'm in a great place to optimize firing algorithms right now. [SPEAKER_03]: Wow, you can cut the tension with a butter knife. [SPEAKER_07]: I did also have to cut the legitimate 10 seconds of just like silence between the two of them because Shepard just stairs that Garus going, please honey pick up on the new window that you just accidentally dropped the little look on her face and it's just perfect.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and what a dork. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_03]: I want to do it. [SPEAKER_03]: I love them. [SPEAKER_03]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, that takes us to the middle of the show. [SPEAKER_03]: Let's get over there. [SPEAKER_03]: We got some fun stuff to talk about, then when we come back, we're going to talk about Garrison Mass Effect, too.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right. [SPEAKER_06]: Here we go. [SPEAKER_06]: We have beef, bacon, we have beer, the foods of my people. [SPEAKER_00]: Young men have funny ideas of what a star you're like. [SPEAKER_00]: I blame the extra net and computer games. [SPEAKER_04]: Rex, Shepherd, Grant, Shepherd, Rex, Grant.
[SPEAKER_03]: Alright, here we are in the middle of the show. [SPEAKER_03]: This is the part where we read out your five star reviews and we do have a new one. [SPEAKER_03]: Left for us from Tommy Voss Barrington from the UK on Apple Podcasts. [SPEAKER_03]: He says, [SPEAKER_03]: five stars had to be Sam and Genesis.
[SPEAKER_03]: Someone else might have gotten it wrong. [SPEAKER_03]: This podcast is methadone for Mass Effect fans. [SPEAKER_03]: It will satisfy your cravings for the games and you learn at the same time. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm also glad to have another Ashley romance in your romance or defending her on a large platform, just as for Ashley and her thick behind.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Tommy, if you haven't played a game called Cyberpunk 2077, let me tell you about a character you might like. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, also another one of my favorites, but I digress, uh, PS, I've just listened to your What if episodes, so forgive me if it's been covered, but what if the elusive man had allowed Miranda to put the control chip and shepherd?
[SPEAKER_03]: It's an interesting thought experiment there. [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe well, maybe we'll dive into that a little bit later. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, but thank you so much for listening to me, and, uh, I guess we'll, uh, keep up with the What if episodes, someone that has been a while since anyone mentioned those.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, the voice line pop quiz. [SPEAKER_03]: Genesis, was I supposed to get one for you this week? [SPEAKER_03]: I was. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: That one's on me. [SPEAKER_03]: That one's on me. [SPEAKER_03]: I was supposed to get one for her and I should have uploaded it. [SPEAKER_03]: But instead, we're just going to go over to think our tier 5 patrons.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's William Superfly 440, Reddrabot, Lt. Susino, Kira C, Edboy, and Day. [SPEAKER_03]: And with that, let's get back to the rest of the show. [SPEAKER_01]: After time, a drift among open stars, a long tides of light and through shows of dust, I will return to where I began. [SPEAKER_02]: Sellerian reproduction, different, very little sex drive.
[SPEAKER_02]: If intended to try human, would try you. [SPEAKER_03]: Ow, my Patreus. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, we're back from break, and for some reason, my camera has gone out. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know why, hopefully my dog didn't like chew through the USB cable, connecting it to my computer. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to have to troubleshoot this, but in the meantime, Genesis, we have Garus to talk about in Mass Effect, too.
[SPEAKER_07]: that we do. [SPEAKER_07]: And by the time that we meet him in Mass Effect 2, he has grown bitter and disgusted by the world around him and is filled with anger. [SPEAKER_07]: He tries to make a difference by killing criminals, but some of the ways that he describes doing so are absolutely horrific.
[SPEAKER_07]: Because he has lost his way without shepherd. [SPEAKER_07]: Garus does not commit his crimes for acts of the purposes of glory, or for the things that it should garner from the helpless, but he relishes in the blood sport, and the knowledge that justice is being served, but it's his own version of justice.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so he loves being the jury judge and executioner. [SPEAKER_03]: That's just executioner might have been a good alternate moniker for garrison. [SPEAKER_03]: Because he wants to be the long rod of the law. [SPEAKER_07]: He does, but I don't think that it's not as palatable. [SPEAKER_07]: You know, people don't want garrison to be the executioner, but he really can't see.
[SPEAKER_03]: He wants to be. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, and it's because of Shepard's guidance, but we'll get on getting to the little little later. [SPEAKER_03]: You were talking about him serving justice. [SPEAKER_03]: What horrific ways has he killed people? [SPEAKER_07]: So his dossier from the shadow broker mentions some very creative deaths.
[SPEAKER_07]: Kron Harga, a sliver, had gunshot wounds to all extremities and primary organs, a rifle butt fracture to the face, and third degree burns to most of his body from an explosive crate. [SPEAKER_03]: Wow, he was toying with his prey, before killing him. [SPEAKER_07]: Yep, another death involved shooting a human gun smuggler with a gun that they had smuggled onto Omega.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yep, har eric, a saboteur, I assume, I assume as volus died of suffocation due to an environmental suit malfunction. [SPEAKER_03]: It could also be Korean, but you probably volus seems like bullying, doesn't it, picking on the volus like that? [SPEAKER_07]: Uh, it didn't, the heart erect didn't follow standard core naming conventions, so that's why I assumed Wallace.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: No, you're right. [SPEAKER_03]: There's no apostrophe or voss there. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_07]: Uh, Thar-Log, Mary Ikit, a red sand dealer, had a chemical overdose due to red sand coming in direct contact with all four eyes. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, Garrison is a bit sadistic.
[SPEAKER_07]: Just a little, my personal, what the favorite was when he coughed on a quarrying virus specialist turned serial killer named Zael N.K.N.R.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.H.
[SPEAKER_07]: Possibly, I don't know exactly what he was doing, but he coughed on a salary, on a quarry and to kill them. [SPEAKER_03]: What a cheeky bastard. [SPEAKER_07]: It's, it's, you know, this, this is what happens when shepherds are around to help guide garrison. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but real, wow.
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think the slaver definitely had it the worst, but you can feel from what, like, the pathology here, the anger, the garrison feels given how much suffering the criminal has inflicted on people. [SPEAKER_07]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, okay, you're a gun runner. [SPEAKER_07]: So you die by a gun.
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, there's, there's, there's a level of poetry to his justice here. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he, um, he would be very easy. [SPEAKER_03]: I think for investigators to track down, because he's too arrogant to want to leave no pattern at all. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, I mean, but none of these crimes that he committed have any pattern to them.
[SPEAKER_07]: They were all unique. [SPEAKER_07]: How do you track somebody who kills differently each and every time? [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I would say that they're killing that there's a pattern and target, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Hmm, okay. [SPEAKER_07]: That is fair. [SPEAKER_07]: Uh, but also, what does Garus Vicarion hold name arc angel all around Tori and bad boy and dispenser of justice and an unjust galaxy listen to while committing heinous acts?
[SPEAKER_07]: Well, we actually learned that from the Shadow Broker 2. [SPEAKER_07]: His audio link plays music per user request, and the top five choices during his firefights are die for the cause, the Turian Imperial Anthem. [SPEAKER_07]: Fire in the courtyard, a soundtrack track from Float Fleet and Flotilla.
[SPEAKER_07]: Bang, bang, boom, club kicks, dance mix, [SPEAKER_03]: That's, that's me. [SPEAKER_03]: Hold on, sorry, that being being, but that's got to be a reference to click, click, boom, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, yeah, very much. [SPEAKER_07]: So yeah, that's click, click, boom, hurt me deeper. [SPEAKER_07]: Best of expel 10, the dance mix version.
[SPEAKER_07]: And blue Azure, Veignia soundtrack. [SPEAKER_03]: Interesting, naming. [SPEAKER_07]: No, especially since we know that Veignia is a sorry pornography. [SPEAKER_07]: He's listening to [SPEAKER_07]: Music from that soundtrack. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh man, confirmed. [SPEAKER_03]: Garus the Guner.
[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, if it's kind of sick beat, it's got a sick beat. [SPEAKER_03]: sick is one way to describe it. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, so okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Let's also let's talk about real music that Garus would listen to. [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like he would be so into divorced dad rock like, oh yeah, he would be he would he would definitely have a diary of Jane.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yep, big, breaking Ben Benjamin fan. [SPEAKER_07]: Yep, I, oh my gosh, a riot from three days, Grace. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yep, he would have, I hate everything about you. [SPEAKER_07]: Mm-hmm, puddle of mud for sure. [SPEAKER_03]: Yep. [SPEAKER_07]: Gosh, we really could just go down the whole list of that pay of that playlist.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I've a song he'd probably be listening to while torturing that slaver, hemorrhage. [SPEAKER_03]: by fuel. [SPEAKER_03]: In my hands. [SPEAKER_07]: Yes. [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, he, uh, I feel like would have a very stereotypical divorce dad rock playlist. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, oh, and the offspring.
[SPEAKER_03]: You'd be so into the offspring. [SPEAKER_07]: Yes. [SPEAKER_07]: But only their grittier stuff, not the funny aerosongs. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, so yeah, um, I'm probably gonna think of, oh, the crystal method, he would be super into the crystal method. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: All right.
[SPEAKER_07]: I got it. [SPEAKER_03]: Basically any song that would have been in triple X with Vin Diesel. [SPEAKER_07]: Nice. [SPEAKER_07]: Ooh, good poll. [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_07]: Now, I promise that that Tory and Bad Boyline will pop up again in a few episodes when I get to talk about a romance garrison on his Citadel DLC date, but I'll pull it back to Mass Effect 2 for right now.
[SPEAKER_07]: Because, well, Shepherd was presumed dead after the collectors attack, most of the other former squadmates just tried to get on with their lives. [SPEAKER_07]: Garus' life, however, was entirely changed. [SPEAKER_07]: He tried to be somebody that shepherd would have been proud of, but it fails.
[SPEAKER_07]: And then he falls back into his dark way of thinking. [SPEAKER_07]: And we get to rescue him from his base of operations, right where the comic left off. [SPEAKER_07]: We all know this mission, but did anyone else reload thinking that they had failed seeing Garus and a pool of blue blood?
[SPEAKER_07]: I'm asking you you didn't reload the game thinking that Garrett that you had failed the mission. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, oh, when he got, yeah, when he got murked by the helicopter. [SPEAKER_07]: By the rocket? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, not a helicopter, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, I didn't.
[SPEAKER_03]: I never reloaded. [SPEAKER_03]: I was just in shock. [SPEAKER_03]: I was like [SPEAKER_03]: There's no way he's dead. [SPEAKER_03]: He's not dead. [SPEAKER_03]: He's not dead, right? [SPEAKER_07]: Well, see, as I hadn't fully been paying attention to his little health bar in the corner, and I thought that I failed the mission, and I was like, no, I can't have no, I can't, I got to have garrison.
[SPEAKER_07]: So the first time I played through it, I had to reload and then realized, okay, no. [SPEAKER_07]: It's canonical. [SPEAKER_07]: Garrison's going to get hit in the face. [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, so he does. [SPEAKER_07]: He gets shot by the rocket leading to this trial of redemption, because now the scars that he bears are a visual reminder of his failures, both in trying to be like shepherd and his failure with his crew and sadonis.
[SPEAKER_07]: And this is the very similar trope we see at all the time. [SPEAKER_07]: It's similar to Luke Skywalker and Star Wars, or Jamie Lannister and Game of Thrones, [SPEAKER_07]: losing their hands, a prinsuko and avatarcting its face burned, characters that bear physical marks of failure are usually in a story about redemption, and garrison's no different.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's a really interesting connection you made. [SPEAKER_03]: I never even thought of that, like, likening it to Luke's hand or Zuko's face, or Jamie's hand. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's a really interesting connection. [SPEAKER_03]: I've never thought about that being a trope of someone literally losing part of themselves and then coming back from that.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, especially in facial scars are a big one about going on a path of redemption, trying to uh, trying to move past it, trying to earn their, to earn their good face back by going through the trial. [SPEAKER_03]: Right. [SPEAKER_03]: You think like putting on the face paint after his facial injury was kind of a pain in the ass.
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I don't know enough about Tori and face paint if it ever washes off. [SPEAKER_07]: Do they have to reapply it? [SPEAKER_07]: Is this a permanent thing that they put on at some point? [SPEAKER_07]: And then never take it off? [SPEAKER_07]: I just, is it now physically bonded into their care pace?
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel no, it would be a total terrain thing that if it does wash off, but the practice of reapplying it every day is like kind of a reminder of who you are and what you stand for. [SPEAKER_07]: Um, highly ritualized. [SPEAKER_07]: I could see that for sure. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, so, uh, that is really, really cool about like that being the turning point in his redemption arc.
[SPEAKER_03]: I can't imagine that he did carry with him the guilt of failing, not just his, uh, squadmates who had been killed. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, but the fact that he didn't even accomplish his goal. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, you're not going to read Omega of Crime Honey. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_07]: It's just not going to happen, guys.
[SPEAKER_07]: Quit trying to make a Vetch happen. [SPEAKER_07]: But after you get him and rescue him and get him back onto the Normandy, we have this opening conversation with him when he's re-equating himself with the main battery. [SPEAKER_07]: And there are three different variations to this conversation that you can have with him.
[SPEAKER_07]: And the first is what I think of the majority of people have heard, which is you make the paragon choices with garrison. [SPEAKER_07]: You spared Dr. Saley on and you say that you aren't going to kill Seren on site. [SPEAKER_03]: And we have a clip here from that moment. [SPEAKER_05]: With all the rebuilding I visited out, there was too much chaos for me to really help.
[SPEAKER_05]: Omega was filled with criminals, nobody else could touch. [SPEAKER_05]: And there was no red tape to slow me down. [SPEAKER_05]: That was a perfect fit. [SPEAKER_05]: People here needed someone to believe in. [SPEAKER_05]: Someone to stand up to the local thugs. [SPEAKER_03]: All right, it looks like my camera has decided to bounce yet again, but yeah, that's that's the Paragon way that garrison introduces himself.
[SPEAKER_03]: I've actually only ever heard that one. [SPEAKER_03]: I've never heard they were in a good one. [SPEAKER_07]: So this should be very interesting because the garrison who was shown that personal justice can be served quick and cold by a specter decides to take a much different path. [SPEAKER_05]: A J&M fighting mercenaries here on OMEG.
[SPEAKER_05]: I trained to become a specter after the Normandy was destroyed, but it didn't work out. [SPEAKER_05]: A much pilot taking it, that's hit it out. [SPEAKER_05]: Nobody was willing to take risks. [SPEAKER_05]: OMEG was filled with criminals, nobody else could touch. [SPEAKER_03]: Wow, okay, so he basically blames it on the red tape and polyticking of the citadel, and how much he hated it there.
[SPEAKER_07]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_07]: But the fact that he didn't go back to seasick, he went back to specter school instead. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: That's quite interesting. [SPEAKER_03]: And that he basically, you know, he's like too cool for specter school. [SPEAKER_07]: I don't want to deal with your bureaucracy.
[SPEAKER_07]: Let me go out on my own path. [SPEAKER_07]: Now, if you decide to jerry it up or remaining neutral by skipping this doctor's salion mission or not, or picking only the middle answers, garrison's kind of lost and unsure about what he should have been doing. [SPEAKER_03]: Back it up, did you just say jerry it up, is that a reference to my neutral shepherd playthrough?
[SPEAKER_07]: It it very much is your very neutral shepherd. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, we have a sound bite here from when Garrison's talking about that if you took the neutral route. [SPEAKER_05]: right. [SPEAKER_03]: So he's burning bridges. [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, that's that's that's pretty vague.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's pretty vague. [SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like also true no matter what you did with Garus. [SPEAKER_03]: So that works. [SPEAKER_07]: Yep. [SPEAKER_07]: He just doesn't know. [SPEAKER_07]: He didn't really know where to go to. [SPEAKER_07]: He didn't go back to Spector school. [SPEAKER_07]: He didn't go back to rejoin C-Sec.
[SPEAKER_07]: He just kind of decided, let's go to Omega. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And that that takes him to a makeup. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, now Genesis as much as I want to continue talking about Garus. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm looking at our timer here and it looks like we're already at about an hour, uh, if not approaching an hour.
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, so we're definitely going to have to continue talking about Garus next week. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh no, more Garus. [SPEAKER_03]: Everyone complains. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I've never once heard someone say that [SPEAKER_07]: I've heard people say that they didn't recruit him, but not that they didn't like him.
[SPEAKER_07]: So. [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, look at that. [SPEAKER_03]: My camera's back. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I've never once heard someone say they didn't like him. [SPEAKER_03]: So when we come back next time to talk about Garrison, where are we going to pick up? [SPEAKER_07]: I think we're going to pick up right at his mission with Sidonus.
[SPEAKER_07]: Garus' loyalty mission kind of is the next progression after this. [SPEAKER_07]: There's a lot of fun banter and things that happen in between and of course, calibrations, but for Garus' true character development, outside of his romance, the Sidonus mission is what is up next. [SPEAKER_03]: And that one can get dark.
[SPEAKER_07]: Yes, I guess it can. [SPEAKER_03]: I actually have done the pair. [SPEAKER_03]: Or they're going to get one on that one. [SPEAKER_07]: Ooh, I have not. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay, this will be fun then when we come back and talk next time. [SPEAKER_03]: All right, well, Genesis, what have you been playing in any new games lately?
[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, I have not been playing anything new lately. [SPEAKER_07]: I've been kind of just watching TV. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, oh, well, okay, what have you been watching? [SPEAKER_07]: rewatching old TV shows. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm in my nostalgia right now. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm watching Lucifer again.
[SPEAKER_03]: Nice. [SPEAKER_03]: Nice. [SPEAKER_03]: Did you ever watch good omens? [SPEAKER_07]: Yes. [SPEAKER_03]: Figured you might like that one. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: I have not been watching TV. [SPEAKER_03]: My list has continued to grow. [SPEAKER_03]: I guess the last show I watch is I started a new anime.
[SPEAKER_03]: Watching the something of the shield hero. [SPEAKER_03]: Shield hero anime anyway. [SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty good. [SPEAKER_03]: Um, and I've been playing a bunch of star field ever since that update came out, uh, the free lanes update and of course, been playing a ton of magic together.
[SPEAKER_03]: That has been taking up most of my time. [SPEAKER_07]: Yep. [SPEAKER_07]: I had I have been playing magic. [SPEAKER_07]: I've been playing arena. [SPEAKER_07]: I've been playing Baldur's gate. [SPEAKER_07]: I've been playing massive act. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, if you want to hear Sam talk about his romance with Panam, you can check out the two girls' one-ship podcast where we analyze, write and review, all that the world the video game romance has to offer.
[SPEAKER_07]: And if you want to learn who Panam Palmer is, you can check out the cyberpunk broadcast where we explore the foundations of the past, the state of the United City today, and the news of the future for all things, cyberpunk. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a great show, also becoming sadly prophetic of what our world is now.

[SPEAKER_03]: I am, I'm like really trying to summon the energy to stream in my spare time.
