[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite lorecast on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_04]: Welcome to the Mass Effect lorecast. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm in seven the legend. [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm Genesis, join us. [SPEAKER_04]: As we explore along tides of light and through the shoals of dust to see where this lore began.
[SPEAKER_03]: And consider where it may go. [SPEAKER_04]: Specters, welcome back to another, um, um, garris filled episode of the Mass Effect Lorecast. [SPEAKER_04]: And joining me as always is my freshly bitten co-host, Genesis. [SPEAKER_04]: Genesis, you want to tell me about the bite that you just received on your hand?
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: My hand is, is, is hurting a little bit. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, currently not bleeding though, so that's a positive. [SPEAKER_04]: There we go, Maya giving you a nice gift for the pre-show, as always. [SPEAKER_04]: Well, we have more garris to talk about today, and I know that you had mentioned before how much you loved the dynamic between James Vega and garris.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes. [SPEAKER_03]: I definitely want to take time to talk about the relationship between Vega and Garus, because I feel it's very important, especially because it's one that every player is going to go through, regardless of, I mean, as long as you have Garus on the ship, of course. [SPEAKER_03]: But it's, it's no interesting, they're dynamic when you look at Garus as a whole.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I wanted to take a sidestep and talk about this one, because the two definitely start out with easy banter right on Palovin, because there could possibly be tension. [SPEAKER_03]: But Vegas says, nah, I have no issues with Tarians. [SPEAKER_03]: good people fought alongside them before.
[SPEAKER_03]: And it establishes that these two aren't going to have some of the tension that can be there between turns and humans who we have seen in the other human characters. [SPEAKER_03]: So just actually. [SPEAKER_04]: for garrison and james it makes sense because james is not old enough to have personal feelings tied to the first contact war and he doesn't have the family history like Ashley does so it makes perfect sense that he wouldn't have personal feelings against it's or in fact for most of james's life humanity has been involved with the [SPEAKER_03]: right, you know, because Hayden has a theory and trauma, Jacob and Miranda don't like any type of aliens, and so there's, you know, Jacob and Garis don't always get along, and that can be seen.
[SPEAKER_03]: But Vega just right out the gate is like, not dude, we're chill, and I really like that. [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's showing that James James is like the living example of generational change within the Mass Effect universe and human culture, human relations, deterrence. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: And the thing that I see now, even more so after this deep dive into Garus as a whole person, is realizing how much he can see of himself in Vega, because Vega is an even more impulsive version of the kind of soldier that Garus used to be. [SPEAKER_03]: You know, James is confident to a point of cocky, he's aggressive, competitive, often reckless, and yet deeply committed to the cause and the people around him.
[SPEAKER_03]: Gary sees that and sees that younger version of himself. [SPEAKER_03]: Because in Mass Effect 3, Vega is 28 years old, right in that same age range of 27 to 29 [SPEAKER_04]: And, yeah, you know, you mentioned it, their cocky, both of them. [SPEAKER_04]: And James is also, he's got a chip on a shoulder, similar to how garrison does.
[SPEAKER_04]: James has something to prove, James diffuses tense situations with sarcastic humor. [SPEAKER_04]: They are almost mirror images of each other, but it's like if garrison were a meathead. [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, very much a jarhead, but it's also like not only a mirror, but a reflection on a past garrison.
[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that's why they really get along in the beginning. [SPEAKER_04]: And I can see James running into the same situations that Garrison did and if James worked in C-SEC. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, very much so he would hate all the red tape. [SPEAKER_03]: He would absolutely hate it. [SPEAKER_04]: And for me, it's really interesting to see how... Real quick, before I forget, because I know I will.
[SPEAKER_04]: There's another huge similarity between them and stop me if I'm stealing your thunder a little bit for later in the show. [SPEAKER_04]: I haven't read far enough in the notes. [SPEAKER_04]: But for anyone who has watched Paragon Lost, [SPEAKER_04]: you know that James also lost his squad and James blames himself.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so there's definitely, I do talk about that a little bit, but it's also the fact that Vega wasn't the one in command of that squad that makes it a big difference between him and [SPEAKER_03]: But where I was going to go next was that garrys, I love the way that garrys is now in the shepherd role, because he takes on Vega the same way that shepherd took on him, because he has experiences that Vega hasn't had yet.
[SPEAKER_03]: He, Garus, has lost people under his command. [SPEAKER_03]: He has learned that good intentions don't guarantee good outcomes. [SPEAKER_03]: And experience the life-altering consequences of always following that impulse monster in your head. [SPEAKER_03]: Garus can see that Vega is still very much in his shoot first asked questions, stage of life.
[SPEAKER_04]: They get not opposed to dancing on some polls. [SPEAKER_03]: No, I could totally see that happening. [SPEAKER_03]: And he's out there and he's trying to gain these life experiences that Garasardi has. [SPEAKER_03]: Now I'm picturing Vega, modded onto a poll dance. [SPEAKER_03]: Thank you for derailing my brain.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he's the headliner at Chip and Dale's on the Citadel. [SPEAKER_03]: Now I need a modded wall dancing Vega. [SPEAKER_04]: Magic Vega. [SPEAKER_04]: That's it. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's supposed to magic back. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Jimmy. [SPEAKER_03]: The other half of this coin of seeing the way that Vega and Garus interact is that Vega helps us see Garus as a new person.
[SPEAKER_03]: Because we've spent three games and seven episodes, [SPEAKER_03]: He is the best friend, trusted Lieutenant, potential romance partner, fellow veteran, and survivor, are true writer die. [SPEAKER_03]: But Vega just sees Garrison, Badass, Turian, Soldier. [SPEAKER_03]: So we get to see Garrison interacting with a new kid who doesn't know the history, doesn't know all of the chicarian more.
[SPEAKER_04]: And I feel like Vega is a little bit jealous in that regard. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, just a little like he's like you can hear it in the banter that Vega almost feels like the third wheel if that makes sense [SPEAKER_03]: Definitely, and I have clips about some of this banter where it's like, well, you did that with Shepard.
[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't count. [SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't count. [SPEAKER_03]: It cares. [SPEAKER_03]: And so, I love that he wants to be part of the, he knows that he's the new kid. [SPEAKER_03]: And he wants to be a part of the inner circle that I'm sure he can feel with the Vermeyer survivor, Lyra.
[SPEAKER_04]: Tally and everybody who was in the previous games Vegas now like I want to be a part of the crew too So I realized that you and I have a completely different perspective on on this whole competition between Vega and Garus for Shepherd's affection right and it is completely different if you're playing bro ship [SPEAKER_04]: It's like a little bit like I guess if you've ever seen how I'm at your mother That's seen where Barney and Marshall are arguing over who who Ted loves as his best friend more [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, I'm not talking about like vying for Shepard's affection. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm talking about vying for Shepard's attention, builder to very different things. [SPEAKER_04]: Okay, all right, all right, fair. [SPEAKER_04]: Semantics, but that is what I meant. [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, I'm, no, I'm Shepard's best friend.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Shepard's, you know, I'm Shepard. [SPEAKER_04]: You know what I'm saying? [SPEAKER_04]: Like, no, I'm Shepard's writer die. [SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know, I guess maybe it's just like, [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, inherently where you just don't see guys saying that about another guy friend, like, you know what I'm saying, like, I'm thinking about me and my friend group, I don't think anyone has ever argued over whether or not they were closer to one of our friends, like that, that would be like a little bit like, [SPEAKER_04]: Do you like, do you like our friend a little bit more than a friend?
[SPEAKER_04]: What's going on here? [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's just a little bit gender dynamic difference. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because there's definitely a hierarchy in my head of, you know, of my best friend here, rank like who goes in what order. [SPEAKER_04]: I've never thought of it that way.
[SPEAKER_04]: I've thought about who I'm close to and who I'm not. [SPEAKER_04]: Kind of like a past-fail grade system. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh man. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: I love this. [SPEAKER_03]: This is new insight. [SPEAKER_03]: interesting. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: I guess what we can move on to now while I try to think about where where Garrison, where the crew would be on the tier ranking to Shepard, is that I started to see Garrison seeing James' leadership potential.
[SPEAKER_03]: And this is where their relationship becomes more interesting than simple battle buddy banter. [SPEAKER_03]: Because James has leadership experience from the Alliance, particularly from the events surrounding Earth and the evacuation civilians and his missions prior to meeting Shepard through Paragon Lost.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, he's not inexperienced. [SPEAKER_03]: He's simply less experienced than Garis in that kind of leadership that the Reaper War demands. [SPEAKER_03]: Garis has been there. [SPEAKER_04]: and Vegas also got kind of that deer in the headlights look when it comes to a lot of interspecies dynamics.
[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's clear that Vega hasn't really gotten a lot of chance to meet and interact with the galactic community outside of humanity. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: He's very much been an alliance guy and so mainly been around humans and then interspersed with other species. [SPEAKER_03]: I know that he's talked about being fighting with Terri and to before, but I think he at one point makes comments about Hanar and not ever having seen them before, but it could be wrong on that one.
[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, he can't sell the aliens from the animals. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay. [SPEAKER_03]: So, through what we see through Garus Garus has learned that leadership isn't just hand you win the fight. [SPEAKER_03]: It's can you live with what happens to the people who follow you?
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's something that James is still learning. [SPEAKER_03]: And Garus is essentially living proof of what that transition looks like. [SPEAKER_03]: We see that a lot in his conversations when he's in the refugee camp [SPEAKER_04]: We get a lot more insight about garrison's parents and garrison's family than we ever do with James.
[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that's due to the fact that James hasn't even bigger wall up preventing him from being vulnerable with anybody. [SPEAKER_03]: The fact that it takes an actual physical combat between Vega and Shepard for him to start opening up and talking about how how he's feeling about how being forced to leave earth.
[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of really shows the dynamic he's definitely. [SPEAKER_04]: the stereotypical male of I'm not you know comfortable openly talking about my feelings and going through that but somehow during this physical combat where you're drawing it out of me I'll be able to do it Well James is also and I think a lot of veterans and current active service members will probably identify with this James will remind them a lot of people that they've met in the Berks [SPEAKER_04]: You know, James is the end credit to Freddie Prince Jr. for this, because James exemplifies the embrace the suck mindset of, you know, laugh through the pain, never let him see you once, and even your closest friends, you know, it's not going to be a vulnerability like it is in this civilian world.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: It is clear that James is marine and he talks like it and he acts like it. [SPEAKER_03]: very much so especially on his one-on-one outing with shepherd when they're doing shots and the u-raas and all that together. [SPEAKER_03]: It's very much marine. [SPEAKER_03]: But there is also the side of him that is willing to open up and talk about things once he's gotten a little bit more used to the situation [SPEAKER_03]: And this is one of my favorite scenes here where we get to see all of the experience and the cockiness, the battle banter, and the honestly heartfelt connection at the end between Vega and Garus.
[SPEAKER_04]: Alright, here we go. [SPEAKER_04]: We've got a clip here. [SPEAKER_04]: Do you want to play this game? [SPEAKER_07]: What's the matter of a carryin'? [SPEAKER_07]: You chicken? [SPEAKER_07]: I don't even know what that is. [SPEAKER_07]: Though I've heard everything in the galaxy taste like it.
[SPEAKER_07]: But if you're suggesting I'm scared, game on Vega. [SPEAKER_07]: Age before wisdom. [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. [SPEAKER_07]: Back in my C-Sec days, I busted a Baterian spy ring that was trying to assassinate a counselor. [SPEAKER_06]: Please, I bought up a dozen Angry Baterians on Omega single-handedly.
[SPEAKER_06]: Used one of them as a landing pad off a three-story jump. [SPEAKER_07]: Just warming up, seeing what you had now. [SPEAKER_07]: I tracked down this guy, Sarah. [SPEAKER_07]: Stopped him from raising a death army and unleashing the Reapers three years ago. [SPEAKER_07]: Doesn't count, you did that with Shepherd.
[SPEAKER_07]: You're right, I was with Shepherd from the very beginning. [SPEAKER_07]: That just means you're all. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, so that's exactly what I was talking about. [SPEAKER_04]: The whole, you're right. [SPEAKER_04]: I was with Shepherd from the very beginning. [SPEAKER_04]: That, that almost sounds like [SPEAKER_04]: some catty dialogue between Lyra and Ashley.
[SPEAKER_04]: Vying for a shepherd's affection and mass-faked one. [SPEAKER_04]: That's what I'm talking about. [SPEAKER_04]: This would be such a weird conversation to walk in on as a guy and your two guy friends are talking about it like this. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, I would legitimately be like, what the fuck is wrong with you guys?
[SPEAKER_03]: Wow, yeah, see, and I took that completely different. [SPEAKER_03]: I was like, yeah, they are fighting over, like, who's a better friend for Shepard? [SPEAKER_04]: This is like, when I hear this, it almost sounds like some shit that would happen in a reality TV show. [SPEAKER_04]: Like, like, like, more secret lives of Mormon wives or something.
[SPEAKER_04]: No, I'm closer to Tiffany. [SPEAKER_04]: No, I am. [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I've been with Tiffany since her divorce. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I can see that. [SPEAKER_04]: See, we're see where I'm going with that now. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: But then then it gets a little bit interesting because it takes a few missions to get this full conversation. [SPEAKER_03]: And so I cut out a majority of the middle of it because it really just is them exchanging more stories back and forth. [SPEAKER_03]: But then I feel like we get to the realness of it where they get in garris are now becoming actual friends.
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so no cat fight, no cat fight, and I got it, I got it, here we go, we've got another clip here. [SPEAKER_06]: You've been through a lot, Skars. [SPEAKER_06]: You're giving up? [SPEAKER_06]: Nah, I got more, just don't like to talk about it. [SPEAKER_06]: Fair enough. [SPEAKER_06]: and we've all got one of those.
[SPEAKER_06]: Just one, huh? [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, not every story has a happy ending. [SPEAKER_06]: Except there was this one time I teamed up with a turian named Garus McCarrion. [SPEAKER_06]: It was pretty good with a gun, but he thought he was some kind of hot shot. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah, I knew this wise ass marine named Jimmy Vega.
[SPEAKER_07]: Sounds like a pole dancer on a mega. [SPEAKER_07]: Always got on my nerves. [SPEAKER_07]: But the kid was alright. [SPEAKER_07]: Had guts when it counted. [SPEAKER_06]: And together they cured the genophage. [SPEAKER_06]: And stopped soberists from taking over the citadel. [SPEAKER_06]: And finally kicked a reaper from this galaxy and into the next.
[SPEAKER_06]: With a little help from their friends. [SPEAKER_06]: Nah, I was just us. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, they should well, that was unexpected. [SPEAKER_04]: I didn't actually remember that Geras references him as a pole dancer. [SPEAKER_04]: That's funny that I made that joke though. [SPEAKER_03]: Are you wronged up?
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's funny that I brought it up because I didn't even remember that. [SPEAKER_03]: Yep, Jimmy Vega sounds like a pole dancer. [SPEAKER_03]: But I am. [SPEAKER_04]: And if his name was Jimmy Vega, he would be a porn star. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, definitely. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, but I absolutely love these two.
[SPEAKER_03]: Their relationship, obviously, they are bros at this point. [SPEAKER_03]: Their friends, they've gotten over this, like, who's a better friend for shepherd thing. [SPEAKER_03]: They are definitely battle buddies and having fun with it. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I like to see that last part because it's like, okay, there is no seat.
[SPEAKER_04]: There is actually no beef between them. [SPEAKER_04]: Like it isn't, it isn't as petty as maybe the beginning made it out to be or at least you hope so and they're not just being like super passive aggressive. [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think either of those two have the ability to be super passive and aggressive.
[SPEAKER_03]: If this was Lyra, maybe I could see that for sure. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: But not, I think Vegas way too straightforward and so is Garus in order to be that duplicitous. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, right on well, uh, that's all we got for the first half let's go to the mid break.
[SPEAKER_04]: And when we come back, we're going to be talking a little bit more about Vegas, um, flirtatious personality. [SPEAKER_04]: So, all right, here we go. [SPEAKER_09]: We have, uh, beef bacon. [SPEAKER_09]: We have beer, the foods of my people. [SPEAKER_00]: Young men have funny ideas of what a story [SPEAKER_05]: Rex.
[SPEAKER_05]: Shepherd. [SPEAKER_05]: Grant. [SPEAKER_05]: Shepherd. [SPEAKER_05]: Rex. [SPEAKER_05]: Grant. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, here we are in the middle of the show. [SPEAKER_04]: We don't have any new five star reviews on Apple podcasts this week. [SPEAKER_04]: However, we do have a few new comments on Spotify, but I did want to reference one of them.
[SPEAKER_04]: from Dallas H, who commented on the what if the genophage episode saying love the show, I have one for you guys, what if Javix original mission to take one million proteins during the protein cycle, wait out the reapers on the Eden Prime and awaken them to lead a military campaign to reclaim the galaxy?
[SPEAKER_04]: So, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that actually was his mission. [SPEAKER_04]: like more or less because he was a soldier and he was frozen with a lot of soldiers as well. [SPEAKER_04]: And I actually thought that the re-conquering the Galaxy and the name of the proteins to continue their civilization was his mission of vengeance.
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, at the very least, taking out the reapers and then being able to recolonize as a protein galaxy for sure, uh, but no, I think that if that's the route that the game went, I don't think that I would like have liked it as much, but it's an interesting question to think about about what if there were more than one protein left.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I really liked the idea, and I've seen it thrown around so much, but I love the idea of, like, Javik as the catalyst, you know, and that Javik would sacrifice himself at the very end of Mass Effect 3. [SPEAKER_04]: That would be a cool kind of turnaround that the last Prothian did get the last laugh, you know.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that would have been beautiful. [SPEAKER_03]: I found that he wasn't DLC. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, day one, day one from Ashes, DLC. [SPEAKER_04]: Alright, well, Dallas, H, thanks so much for the comment. [SPEAKER_04]: And if you want to get your comment right out, leave a comment on our most recent episode on Spotify, or you can leave us a review on Apple podcasts or audible or wherever you listen.
[SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, those always make our day, at least for me. [SPEAKER_04]: And it's called not an expert. [SPEAKER_04]: That's what the files called. [SPEAKER_04]: Let's give it a listen right now. [SPEAKER_07]: A human perfect. [SPEAKER_07]: I'm kind of on the outs with my human girlfriend. [SPEAKER_07]: Could you give me some insights?
[SPEAKER_07]: Sir, I am definitely not an expert. [SPEAKER_04]: this is a windy's. [SPEAKER_04]: Um, I love that one. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to guess Garus Mass Effect 3 Casino on the Silver Sun strip. [SPEAKER_03]: all correct. [SPEAKER_04]: I knew it because of the guard's voice and the background chatter.
[SPEAKER_04]: That then the ambient chatter and the background. [SPEAKER_04]: Was it that give away? [SPEAKER_04]: All right. [SPEAKER_04]: We do have one new patron to shout out. [SPEAKER_04]: Sunny Sprout. [SPEAKER_04]: Thank you so much for joining and supporting this show. [SPEAKER_04]: We've also have our tier five patrons to shout out.
[SPEAKER_04]: William, Superfly 440, Retrobat, Lieutenant Tussino, Kira C, Edboy, and Nightstar Raider. [SPEAKER_04]: thank you so much for your support. [SPEAKER_04]: And with that, let's not delay any further, let's get back to more garris and more Vega. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, here we go. [SPEAKER_01]: After time, I drift among open stars, a long tide of light and through shows of dust, I will return to where I began.
[SPEAKER_09]: Salary and reproduction different, very little sex drive. [SPEAKER_09]: If intended to try human, would try you out my bakeries. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, here we are in the second half of the show. [SPEAKER_04]: Now we've got some flirtatious guys to talk about, right? [SPEAKER_04]: You know, Vegas of Flirt, how about Garrison?
[SPEAKER_03]: So it was interesting that you put this in my mind about the fact that my brochure runs are a lot different than my femsheb runs. [SPEAKER_03]: So if you've never played as a femsheb, you might not see the full breath of breath of Vegas flirtation because he doesn't flirt with brochure.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he calls him, no, but he's smug. [SPEAKER_04]: He's smug. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but pro-shep is not called loca and like occasionally baby, you know, or babe. [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's babe. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: We get a couple of those. [SPEAKER_03]: So definitely doesn't happen with the [SPEAKER_03]: Oh no, Garus definitely uses a lot more words like that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Shepherd, sweetheart, love of my life. [SPEAKER_03]: It's, it's really cute and sweet. [SPEAKER_04]: And Garus never talks to me that way. [UNKNOWN]: Okay. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, so, tell me more about this flirty Garus. [SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, how, how, how James is kind of similar in that regard.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, what? [SPEAKER_03]: What we know when he is flirty is that he doesn't actually want to get a shepherd and that's okay, that's good. [SPEAKER_03]: But what about when Vega is flirty with a shepherd who is in a relationship with his best bro, Gareth? [SPEAKER_04]: It is. [SPEAKER_04]: yeah love triangle all right so we've got a clip here to kind of demonstrate exactly what we're talking about let's pull this up here All right, I got to memorize where I got to stop this clip.
[SPEAKER_08]: All right, all right here we go After you've been a shameless flirt yeah, well, it's just my way. [SPEAKER_06]: I don't mean anything by a lola. [SPEAKER_08]: Uh-huh [SPEAKER_06]: Why am I making this hard for you and Garris? [SPEAKER_08]: Not even remotely. [SPEAKER_06]: Hey, how do you do?
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, is he... You know... Do Turbians have all the same... [SPEAKER_06]: Same... Nevermind, I don't really want to know. [SPEAKER_04]: Alright. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I feel like... [SPEAKER_04]: I feel like that's a pretty typical question. [SPEAKER_04]: I feel like, like, a typical marine would probably continue along that line of questioning without pause.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, for sure. [SPEAKER_03]: Because I think when you see a relationship dynamic that you've never seen before, you've got question. [SPEAKER_03]: Damn it, Vega, you could have gotten so many questions answered for the AO3 community. [SPEAKER_03]: And I am disappointed in you. [SPEAKER_04]: Um, as a player of the games, I personally hope that question is never answered.
[SPEAKER_04]: Spiss preferably on screen. [SPEAKER_04]: Right, no. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm a monster, weiner. [SPEAKER_04]: In my games. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: No, I agree with you on that. [SPEAKER_03]: I would like maybe a description or at least an inkling, but I don't need to visualize it.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm good. [SPEAKER_03]: But I had to throw that clip in there because it shows that Vega is invested. [SPEAKER_03]: He wants shepherd and Garrett's happy, and he even shows up [SPEAKER_03]: So here we go. [SPEAKER_03]: This is the Citadel DLC romance garrison femme ship relationship date.
[SPEAKER_03]: Because we meet garrison on the upstairs dance floor and buckle in because this is a wild ride. [SPEAKER_03]: The clip is long, so I will break it up a little bit and I will talk over parts of it so I can tell you what's happening because there's a lot of it where it's just them dancing.
[SPEAKER_04]: I got you. [SPEAKER_04]: All right. [SPEAKER_04]: So I'll go ahead and play this and you just chime in whenever. [SPEAKER_03]: The first part of the clip is just them talking. [SPEAKER_03]: And so I won't chime in then you'll stop and then well, we'll keep going. [SPEAKER_04]: Okay. [SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[SPEAKER_04]: Let's let's check it out. [SPEAKER_04]: I'll keep this quick. [SPEAKER_06]: Oh no, not a political [SPEAKER_04]: All right, no, no, I'm sorry James Solerico or Tolerico, but um, I don't care how quick you keep it. [SPEAKER_04]: We are not going to watch your ad on the on the Mass Effect Lord cast.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure you've got great things to say. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, all right, here we go, here we go. [SPEAKER_08]: So, a Terry and I'm sure leave you come here often. [SPEAKER_07]: Is this that, uh, for state thing we talked about? [SPEAKER_07]: We've got it. [SPEAKER_07]: Yes. [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, I come here often. [SPEAKER_07]: Good place to law of steam. [SPEAKER_07]: Seenor is not barely time. [SPEAKER_07]: Though the view in front of me is even better. [SPEAKER_08]: That's supposed to melt a girl's heart. [SPEAKER_07]: No, but this voice is, time-garious for carry-in codename, our game jump, all round-turing and mad boy, dispenser, justice in an unjust galaxy.
[SPEAKER_07]: Also, I kill Reapers on the side, and you are. [SPEAKER_08]: Commander Shepherd, Alliance Navy. [SPEAKER_07]: Shepardham, I might have heard a few things about you. [SPEAKER_08]: Flatter me. [SPEAKER_07]: Word is your smart, sexy, a wicked shot. [SPEAKER_07]: Also, you kill Reapers on the side too.
[SPEAKER_08]: And the most girls fall for them. [SPEAKER_07]: Well, sure, you know, this voice is... [SPEAKER_07]: I'm running out of band how you show me. [SPEAKER_08]: Make it up. [SPEAKER_08]: Remember we just met. [SPEAKER_07]: Right, yeah, I mean, yeah, all of the girls for... Let me show you. [SPEAKER_08]: What are you doing?
[SPEAKER_07]: You'll be fine. [SPEAKER_08]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_07]: Been taking lessons on the side. [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so they begin tango dancing, but it's the first part of this clip that really just held me because this is an established couple who've been together for probably around like six months at this point even longer if they had a dated and mass effect too.
[SPEAKER_03]: And they're out here role-playing, you know, I died, jaw-drop, and full-on-fanty myself died when I first saw this scene. [SPEAKER_04]: Garrison's role-playing. [SPEAKER_04]: Shepard's not really true, I would say Shepard's not that great at improv, Shepard's not really giving him a lot to work with.
[SPEAKER_03]: I know, I know. [SPEAKER_03]: But that's part of it because even the bad acting makes it feel more real, you know, because there is like, that's right, I'm Commander Shepard, Navy Alliance. [SPEAKER_03]: And then she drops into this like, come on, Gary, so this is supposed to be our first date we're supposed to be having fun with this.
[SPEAKER_03]: And so that just makes it feel even more real. [SPEAKER_03]: It's supposed to feel awkward and shy. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm watching what is supposed to be a [SPEAKER_04]: Sorry, he's never mind. [SPEAKER_04]: Go on. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I mean, that's what this is. [SPEAKER_03]: We're watching what is supposed to be their role playing out their first date because they didn't get one.
[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't date at all. [SPEAKER_03]: They went straight into, you know, let's blow off steam. [SPEAKER_03]: And then a reunion of, you know, this is how it's gonna be because we do still want to be together after being separated. [SPEAKER_03]: They didn't go out on a date. [SPEAKER_04]: That's fair.
[SPEAKER_04]: And so they begin, okay, they begin this tango dance, which is good to know the tango still exists in 2006. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so there is full shepherd onto the dance floor and we all know just how much shepherd loves to dance. [SPEAKER_04]: All right, let's watch the remainder of this clip here.
[SPEAKER_07]: This is for Muslims. [SPEAKER_03]: And everything is for having one another in love with you. [SPEAKER_03]: All about trying to trip like this. [SPEAKER_03]: And can you get me back home? [SPEAKER_03]: Can you pay for that later woman? [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's... Way more central than it is than it is to be.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then the crowd is... [SPEAKER_03]: People are gatherin' and watching high-spaving instigator work and there's another inch of other enemies. [SPEAKER_03]: There you go. [SPEAKER_03]: Now we're getting ready. [SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna watch you on the wall and see if there's anything we can do about it.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh [SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to figure out what you're doing.
[SPEAKER_03]: There's holes for back. [SPEAKER_03]: They can't leave dancing, and now they are still in stock anyway. [SPEAKER_03]: And there's holes for back. [UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_07]: I think I'll go over the phone for that. [SPEAKER_04]: Oh hell yes, I see you've been putting that reach-in flexibility to good use You know, and it gets even better when you try it in bed Oh spicy So I would like to know when and where they found the time to practice dancing lessons together [SPEAKER_03]: Well, who is the only human bestie, who has been sitting at the bar the whole time watching the date, the one who stands up to make sure that Gary is hitting all the right steps?
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Jimmy Vega is there to cheer on his bro and make sure that he gets the girl. [SPEAKER_03]: I think Gary is in Vega. [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, we're dancing. [SPEAKER_04]: That's a great point. [SPEAKER_04]: But Shepherd just happens to know how to tango as well. [SPEAKER_03]: only after he's been showing her and the fact that Garus is able to lead in guide, like with the way that he's showing her out to do these moves.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's, you know, the whole leading and following thing with partner dances for those who don't know is so critical. [SPEAKER_04]: and it is actually surprising to me that despite shepherd being shepherd, shepherd still has no problem following in a dance. [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's because shepherd trusts Garrison enough that she's willing to let him guide and control all the movement.
[SPEAKER_03]: Because the other was a little bit of that tension to begin with, don't pull me onto the dance floor, don't bring me out here, but then eases into it and remembers that herians do a lot of their, you know, their flirting, their relationships [SPEAKER_03]: you know, the dancing, the combat, all of that stuff, it is very physical.
[SPEAKER_03]: So if she wants to be with Garus, she has to go out there on that limb of being able to do something physical in, you know, such as dancing. [SPEAKER_04]: And I think it probably also helps that like, both of them have seen far worse than a dance floor. [SPEAKER_04]: So the dance floor is nothing to be scared of, uh, because they faced reapers.
[SPEAKER_04]: So like, they probably are not at all concerned with embarrassing themselves. [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_03]: Not at all. [SPEAKER_04]: And also doing so well that everyone there, everyone there knows that they could die tomorrow. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I don't think the people on the silver strength on the strip really are well, no at this point.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the reapers have attacked so they know they all know and I think it's even commented on by one of the squadmates who mentions maybe it's ED [SPEAKER_04]: it's joker it's joker yeah people dancing because they know that they got you know tomorrow isn't promised so yeah that was that's that's a really cool detail there at the end that I never saw and never put two and two together there that Vega had been secretly teaching Garrett some dance moves maybe that's what Garrett's lies to us and says these calibrating all that time [SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah, he's calibrating his dance moves, which also means that since Gareth was being taught how to lead, that means that Vega was definitely playing the quote Woman's role in that.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I'd rather not picture a meat-meat head, Vega. [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I feel like it'd probably be like a simple G-mod thing, where you can replace Shepherd's body model with Vegas, and that's seeing- Oh gosh. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, yeah, I want all the Vega mods. [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I personally am a big fan of Vega.
[SPEAKER_03]: I am not a fan of Vega Shepherd in the deals in the Citadel DLC, but I'd really do like [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: And if you are listening to this and you think that he just don't really know Vega enough, go and watch Paragon Lost. [SPEAKER_04]: It's not like the best movie you'll ever see.
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, keep that in mind, and you'll need to suspend disbelief in parts, but it gives you a brand new appreciation for James Vega, everything that he's gone through, and [SPEAKER_04]: things that Vega mentions to Shepherd mean a lot more. [SPEAKER_04]: It's essentially the anime equivalent of one of the homeworld comics.
[SPEAKER_04]: but it's a lot longer of course. [SPEAKER_04]: Anyway, it's a great great watch. [SPEAKER_04]: It gives you a lot of appreciation for Vega. [SPEAKER_04]: I can't recommend it enough in that regard. [SPEAKER_04]: But all right, so where does that leave us with Garris because we're near the end of the episode now and where what else do we have to talk about with Garris?
[SPEAKER_03]: So I mean, it's kind of the conclusion of the game. [SPEAKER_03]: There is, especially with the way that Garus will talk to Shepard right before the return to Earth, the way that [SPEAKER_03]: Garus, it, especially at that, I'm sorry, I'm being attacked by the cat again, so I'm being very distracted.
[SPEAKER_03]: Basically endgame, that's where next episode will be about, and I promise that that will be the conclusion of my mass opus to Garus, will be next episode because I have poured a lot of love and time. [SPEAKER_03]: into talking about Garus for so many episodes, but it is coming to a conclusion with the conclusion of the game.
[SPEAKER_04]: Alright, well, I can't wait for that, and yeah, that'll be part 8 for Garus. [SPEAKER_04]: I don't want to hear from anyone that we didn't cover Garus enough. [SPEAKER_04]: Actually, it's technically part 9 because we did the Garus comic episode like a year and some change it go. [SPEAKER_04]: So this is part 9 coming up of garris that's three trilogies of garris I have a lot to say about him okay.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, well, I don't blame you All right, so there's that so we've got two weeks before the patron chat meaning next week will be garris part 9 and then we have the patron chat [SPEAKER_04]: All right. [SPEAKER_04]: So I think that covers us through the rest of September. [SPEAKER_04]: That's what you should expect.
[SPEAKER_04]: I know this episode was a little bit shorter, but I'm glad that we went through it because as you concreanaly as here in chat says it's been 84 years that I'm learning new lore. [SPEAKER_04]: I never knew that about James Vega teaching Garus the tango. [SPEAKER_04]: So that's great. [SPEAKER_04]: Um, well, I don't have really anything going on until next week as viewers on our YouTube can see whenever I post this, uh, the bags in my eyes are designer, so barely getting by as it is.
[SPEAKER_04]: Genesis, what do you got going on? [SPEAKER_04]: How can people go to the whole of you? [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I have my two other shows, the cyberpunk lore cast where we explore the foundations of the past, the state of Night City today and the news, the future for all things cyberpunk. [SPEAKER_03]: To see and I are currently going through a rewatch of adrunners season one and anticipation of season two dropping next month.
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're really excited about that. [SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god, has it been that long? [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_04]: Wow. [SPEAKER_04]: It's been five and a half years. [SPEAKER_04]: Since we started this show, my god, I can't believe it's been that long. [SPEAKER_04]: I'm getting old!
[SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_04]: All right. [SPEAKER_03]: Staying with my other show, the two girls' one-shit podcast where we analyze right and review all that the world of video game romances has to offer. [SPEAKER_03]: We're taking a slight detour right now and talking about the fallout TV show show.
[SPEAKER_03]: So still kind of, I mean, it's video game adjacent. [SPEAKER_03]: So within the realm of fallout, but the girls are coming up on their five-year anniversary in November. [SPEAKER_04]: and speaking of November 7th coming up less than two months from now, and we better fucking get something.
[SPEAKER_04]: You better get something. [SPEAKER_03]: It's still a thing. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but all right, that's all we got for this week's specters. [SPEAKER_04]: Thanks so much for joining us again. [SPEAKER_04]: And until next time, we should go. [SPEAKER_04]: Take everyone. [SPEAKER_04]: Thanks for listening to the Mass Effect War text.
