Max All aboard listeners! Another episode of Max and Maple's Big Adventure Podcast is pulling out of the station. I'm your conductor, Max.
Maple And I'm Maple. Wait, Max, I want a train job too.
Max You can be the train engineer. They're the ones who fix the train and make sure everything works.
Maple Okay. Call me Smokestack.
Grandpa Tony And what about me?
Maple Oh, hi Grandpa Tony.
Max Grandpa! Oh, you have the most important job of all. Uh, being Grandpa. Oh, and we can't forget our magical little friends, the wheelio's! Ooh, they can run the wheels. Actually, Maple, on a train the steam runs the piston and the piston pushes the driving wheel. The driving wheel is coupled with the side rods.
Max Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But we're just pretending the wagon is a train. So the wheelio job is running the wheels.
Grandpa Tony Everyone has a fancy train job but me. Guess I'll go grease the gutters.
Max Oh no, we better hurry up! Our first action tastic adventure is about to leave the imagination station! Ready, conductor Max! Ready, engineer maple? I mean uh smokestack. Welcome to Max's Adventure Log number 222. There's a big convention in Gardanopolis, and I've been charged with delivering all the supplies they need.
Max So I'm loading up my cargo train, the Wagon Streamliner number one, full of precious cargo here in Backyardsburg. No one but I, Conductor Max, could deliver such an important shipment. Hello there, Conductor Max. A good day, train engineer smokestack. I'm going to the dining car. You want a cup of tea?
Max Smokestack. There's no dining car. No dining car? What kind of a train is this? A cargo train. Max, what's cargo? Oh, cargo is stuff you have to move from one place to another. Ah, got it. Tea time will have to wait. How's the engine, Smokestack? Super enginey. Are the train wheels supposed to make that weird squeaky noise?
Max Yep. Squeaks are a wheel's way of saying everything is working. All good down there, wheelies?
unknown Yeah.
Max Well, that's a relief. We want a smooth ride for our precious cargo. I'm a top-notch engineer, Conductor Max. I made sure this train was specially equipped with a brake lever for emergency stops. Does it work? Of course it works! I even installed it myself.
unknown Huh?
Max Uh smokestack. Did it just snap in half? Don't worry. Snapping is a lover's way of saying. Whoops. So we have no way to stop. Run away, Trey! Okay, think, Smokestack, think! As long as nothing is blocking the track up ahead, we should be okay for a little while, all right? Uh smokestack, there's something blocking the track up ahead.
Max Do you see it too? I see a tree up ahead blocking the track. Wait, are we pretending that tree over there is something else or keeping it a tree? Let's keep it a tree. A tree blocking the tracks! Yeah, full of helpless uh frogs! A tree full of frogs? Tree frogs are a thing. Oh, fair enough. We have to stop before we hit those tree frogs!
Max I've got it! Maple, listeners, there's a switch up ahead. If we pull the switch, we can change the direction of the tracks and we won't hit the frogs! Hey, Maple, uh, use your umbrella as the switch, okay?
unknown Got it!
Max But how can we pull the switch if we're on a moving tree? Woo! Conductor Max! When you graduate from train engineer school, the principal gives you um this switch! But smokestack, you can't reach the switch from here, and we're almost at the tree frog tree! Well, it's a good thing this train is specially equipped with my throwing arm!
Max Yes! Nice shot! The switch worked! It's moving the train! Bye, little froggies! Oh, right, we're still on a runaway train with no brakes. What was that? Oh no! The cargo was falling out of the back of the train! The box car door opened! The doors on this train were specially equipped not to do that! Wheel!
Max Wheel, why did you open the door? We're going to lose all the cargo for the important convention! What kind of convention is it anyway? A clown convention! Clowns are coming from all over, and they're counting on us for accordions, unicycles, rubber chickens, and most important of all, a clown car. So, how do we get all the way to the back of the train from up here?
Max Hmm. Oh, by going on top of the train. We'll jump from car to car, then climb down to the boxcar on the end. This adventure just got even more adventury. Never a dull moment on the wagon streamliner number one. First, we gotta climb up this ladder. Let's climb up the ladder to the treehouse. Okay. It's windy up here.
Max Be careful jumping from car to car. Pretend each board on the rope bridge is another car. Got it. Ready? Jump! Jump! One more jump to go. This one's really far. Ready? Set? Wait, wait. In case we don't make this jump smokestack, I just wanted to say. Traveling all this way with you, you've been like a sister to me.
Max It'd be a shame if we went boom split off this here train. Oh. I mean. Oh. Ready? Ready? Quick! Shut that door! There's only a few pieces of cargo left. Two Heavy! Oh look out! Run away! Clown car? It's going to roll out of the train! But first, it's going to hit us! Swing out of the way! I can't believe it!
Max We lost all the cargo! Even the clown car! We can deal with that later! First, we need to stop this train! Don't worry. This runaway train with no brakes is specially equipped to stop eventually. And for nothing else to get in our way! Smokestack! Look up ahead! A broken bridge! We're headed straight for a cliff!
Max I was wrong! I let him fall to our doom! I'm starting to think this train wasn't so specially equipped after all. Smokestack! Wheel-Os! We have to jump to safety! Oh, well, the train exploded. But we landed safely. Looks like Max's adventure log really went off the rails, huh? Hey, look! We landed on all the cargo that fell out of the train.
Max Oh, great! We got the cargo! But no train to deliver it all to the clowns. This is a real pickle.
Grandpa Tony Hello there, train crew! I'm Tony Baloney, the grandpa clown!
Max Grandpa, your voice is silly.
Grandpa Tony That's Tony Baloney, the Grandpa Clown, to you? Tony Baloney!
Max Oh, I'm so sorry. We brought all your clown cargo, but but but then our train exploded!
Grandpa Tony Well, that's okay. We can deliver what's left in my clown car.
Max Are you sure it'll well fit?
Grandpa Tony Sure. It is a clown car after all.
Max Where do you want these 10,000 banana cream pies?
Grandpa Tony Just shove them in the glove box.
Max And this flour that sprays water?
Grandpa Tony You could you could just give that to me.
Max Well, loyal listeners, we deliver the cargo safely. Kind of. Join us next time on Max's Adventure Log. Whoops! Runaway banana cream pie.
Thelma I've been thinking that many five sounds gross. Some thoughts about trains and thoughts. They call a bunch of ideas a train of thought. But what happens when your thoughts get off track? One time I was thinking about the difference between alligators and crocodiles, and that got me thinking about teeth, and how the plural of tooth isn't tooths, even though the plural of booth is booths, and for sleuth it's sleuths.
Thelma A sleuth is like a detective, which made me think about a story I read where a detective had to solve a mystery on a train. And that's how I got here. Not on a train, but on a train of thought. I still don't know the difference between alligators and crocodiles, though. Okay, bye. I wonder I have a lot of smelling interesting.
Max Hello again, listeners! I've got a wagon full of old toys and stuff, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. Hey Maple! Where did all this stuff come from? In my room. I cleared it out because I need space to build a roller coaster for my ant farm. You need to. They were bored, Max! But now I need to figure out what to do with the stuff I don't want anymore.
Max Hmm. Let's see what you've got in here. Slime, board games, plastic clappy hands. Wow! You've got some great stuff! Yeah, but it's too much stuff. You should sell it! I bet someone else would really like your toys. And then get them out of your room. Win-win! Yeah! I could set up a store! Maple's general store!
Max Right here in the backyard! And I'll record it all for the podcast listeners! The lagoon will be my checkout counter, and I can use this toy cash register I was going to get rid of. Can I work in your store? Of course! You can be the floor sweeper. Actually, I was thinking more like manager or store captain.
Max Sorry, you gotta work your way up like everyone else. Store policy. Who's everyone else? It's just us. Then's the rules! I think I've got a better idea. Be right back. Let's see. I'll put the board games here, the rubber duckies there, the bouncy balls over there. We're officially open for business! Max's Megamart is also officially open for business!
Max What? You set up a store right next to mine! Yep. I cleaned up my room, and now I'm the founder, president, and Chief Captain Supreme of Max's Megamart. Well, we'll see who the customers prefer. Ooh, and look, here comes some Wheelio customers now. Wheel-IOS! Welcome to Max's Mega Mart! And Maple's General Store!
Max Ah, I see my dried-out markers with missing caps have caught your eye. You're a wheelio with fine taste. If you're interested in art supplies, Maple's General Store is running a sale on broken crayons. One minute only. What? Yes, we can negotiate on the price. Well, that's just insulting. Not for me!
Max You've got a deal, kid! Oh wait, where are you going? Typical lucky loose. Hey Grandpa Tony!
Grandpa Tony Hi, kids! My what's all this?
Max Maple's General Store. The one-stop shop for all your grandpa needs. And Max's Mega Mart. Shop to the mare.
Grandpa Tony Oh, I didn't realize I had a shopping center right in my own backyard. Uh now what do you sell?
Max What don't we sell? Books, toys, musical instruments.
Grandpa Tony Oh, what kind of instruments?
Max I've got a tambourine, a drum, and a kazoo.
Grandpa Tony You're certainly good at playing aloud.
Max Playing loud is my favorite! But I don't need them anymore. Now, if you'll step into my shop, I can show you my rare collectibles for sale.
Grandpa Tony You do have quite the collection.
Max Behold, an ultra-rare Maximumax superhero lunchbox!
Grandpa Tony My, that looks quite special.
Max It is. It's the best lunch holder you could ever ask for. But you know, for someone else now. What's that smell? Ooh, I think my old lunch is still inside. I'll throw it in for free. Grandpa, did I mention that Maple's general store is having a two-for-one sale? Well, Max's Mega Mart is having a three-for-one sale.
Max We're having a four-for-one sale. Five for one. Fifty! A hundred! Infinity!
Grandpa Tony All right, all right. I will buy one item from each of your stores. Sound good?
Max Yeah. Deal.
Grandpa Tony Nice sales tactic, Maple.
Max Paccha. Now, customer grandpa, what would you like to buy?
Grandpa Tony Hmm. I like this jack in the box. How much does it cost?
Max That jack in the box? The one that makes me laugh until I fall over when it pops open.
Grandpa Tony I have a packet of radish seeds.
Max Then that's how much it costs.
Grandpa Tony Great! This will be delightful to have around the shop.
Max It sure will.
Grandpa Tony And from Max's shop, I'd like this bike horn. Oh, that bike horn?
Max The one that lets everyone know super speed Max is cruising behind them? What do you got?
Grandpa Tony Here's a spring from my fix-it shop.
Max Pleasure doing business with you. And uh, if you ever need help honking that horn, don't be a stranger.
Grandpa Tony Thank you! Consider me a happy customer.
Max Come again soon! And take good care of that jack in the box!
Grandpa Tony Will do!
Max And that is how you make a sale. Of a fun toy you realize you might actually want to keep.
Thelma Or a bicorn that maybe you weren't ready to get rid of.
Grandpa Tony Kids, I'm happy to return your toys. You don't have to sell your things if you don't want to.
Max But I can't put my stuff back in my room. The ants love their roller coaster so much! They built a whole ant amusement park. They've got a teacup ride with real teacups! And they built a mini golf course in my room!
Grandpa Tony Surprisingly big. Is there somewhere else you could put your things?
Max Maybe. It's gotta be somewhere with a lot of space. Doesn't already have toys. Oh, what about Grandpa Tony's room?
Grandpa Tony But kids, my stuff is in my room.
Max No problem. We'll help you sell it. We're really good at selling stuff. Hey Max, you made a really good store owner. Wanna team up? Great idea, Maple! You were good competition, but you'll make a great partner. Oh, we can call our new store Grandpa Tony's Antique Emporium.
Grandpa Tony Oh, but I like my stuff.
Max I am Max. I am me. Oh, and we're the candy, candy, can do kids. We ran a store. Store. We sold our toys. Sort of. Oh, my catch register made a funny noise. But I got the precious carnival to the clowns to break down. Can do clando you do me too. What now gonna start again? And I am Max. I am Maple! They went to can do, can do, can do, can do, kids!
Max Alright!
