There Is No Perfect Mix (And That’s the Point)

In this episode of the Mixing Music Podcast, Dee Kei and Lū wrestle openly with one of the hardest and most misunderstood ideas in creative life: commitment. Not hustle. Not motivation. Not blind discipline — but the deeper question of why committing feels so heavy, especially in a world full of options, anxiety, and burnout.

The conversation moves between mixing, relationships, career choices, and philosophy, contrasting Western goal-driven culture with Eastern ideas of alignment, duty, and craft. Dee Kei explores why overthinking and outcome-clinging create paralysis, how burnout often comes from committing to the wrong reasons, and why meaning in art and life emerges through commitment, not before it.

They discuss the paradox of choice, perfectionism, nihilism, and why there is never a “perfect time” to make art, choose a path, or finish a mix. Drawing on personal stories, Japanese craftsmanship, sports analogies, and cultural contrasts, this episode isn’t about giving rules — it’s about helping listeners think differently so committing feels less terrifying and more natural.

This one is for creatives who feel stuck, burned out, or afraid to choose — and for anyone who suspects that the answer isn’t more thinking, but committing anyway.

<a href="mixingmusicpodcast.com/exclusive"; rel="nofollow">SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PATREON FOR EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!

<a href="youtube.com/deekeimixes"; rel="nofollow">SUBSCRIBE TO YOUTUBE

<a href="discord.gg/s2WrUg8"; rel="nofollow">Join the ‘Mixing Music Podcast’ Discord!

<a href="deekeimixes.com"; rel="nofollow">HIRE DEE KEI

<a href="soundbetter.com/profiles/14193-lu---midside-so…; rel="nofollow">HIRE LU

<a href="jamesparrishmixes.com/"; rel="nofollow">HIRE JAMES

Find Dee Kei and Lu on Social Media:

Instagram: <a href="instagram.com/deekeimixes/"; rel="nofollow">@DeeKeiMixes <a href="instagram.com/masteredbylu"; rel="nofollow">@MasteredbyLu <a href="instagram.com/jamesparrishmixes/"; rel="nofollow">@JamesParrishMixes

Twitter: <a href="twitter.com/deekeimixes"; rel="nofollow">@DeeKeiMixes <a href="twitter.com/masteredbylu"; rel="nofollow">@MasteredbyLu

The Mixing Music Podcast is sponsored by <a href="izotope.com/mmpodcast"; rel="nofollow">Izotope, <a href="app.redcircle.com/shows/antarestech.sjv.io/WDD…; rel="nofollow">Antares (Auto Tune), <a href="mixingmusicpodcast.com/sweetwater"; rel="nofollow">Sweetwater, <a href="pluginboutique.com/?a_aid=604322feb04e4"; rel="nofollow">Plugin Boutique, <a href="lautenaudio.com/"; rel="nofollow">Lauten Audio, <a href="filepass.com/?fpr=twb41"; rel="nofollow">Filepass, & <a href="partner.canva.com/e44vg6"; rel="nofollow">Canva

The Mixing Music Podcast is a video and audio series on the art of music production and post-production.
