On this episode of Something Major, Sam, John, and Stevie recap the opening round at Wimbledon, starting with Ben Shelton’s upset loss to qualifier Otto Virtanen. They discuss Shelton’s inconsistent 2026 season, why his results have been so up and down, and how slim the margins are on grass.
Then they break down Jannik Sinner’s gritty five-set win over Miomir Kecmanović after five weeks away from competition and a foot blister, before getting into the other big first-round surprises, including early exits for Andrey Rublev, Cameron Norrie, Hubert Hurkacz, and Casper Ruud.
Plus, the guys cover Serena Williams’ long-awaited return to Wimbledon with a wildcard, her three-set loss to Maya Joint, and what it means to see the GOAT back on Centre Court.
