All right, let's get to Ryan Tedder. This guy, busy.
Brother from another mother. They cannot keep us apart.
Tate, McRae, new music, Housewife. Dude, what a great track. Can you give us some background? How did you get, weren't you just working on that last night?
We started this song back in like, I think February or January. It was like the second or third session for her next project we started. I had Julia Michaels in the room, one of the all-time greats, my writer, Grant Poutine, and me and Tate. And we were messing around with an instrumental and I don't know if it was Julia or Tate, but somebody just blurted out, um, you know, I just, uh, I just want to make a lot of money, be a good housewife as a, and I heard it and started cracking up. I was like, that is such a t-shirt like that. I'm kind of one of the things I say, like with good songs, I'll always say if the, if the tag or the lyric or the course is right, I'll say that's a t-shirt hook. And that means, like, you could take that sentence,
put it on a T-shirt, and people would probably wear it. So when I heard that, I started laughing. And one of the rules of songwriting is if a lyric makes you laugh because of how absurd it is, it's probably the right lyric. It's sticky. And that's kind of how it started.
So Tedder says to me, Ryan Tedder here says to me, he said one day he was telling me a story about, was it Mission Impossible? Right? Mission Impossible 6, 8.
9, 10. No, no, no. It was Top Gun. Top Gun.
Top Gun. Maverick. So he gets a call from Tom Cruise. hey brother need a song you got anything how long did it take you to come up with the song after that phone call Uh.
He showed me the beach volleyball, football scene from top gun too, from Maverick. And I had an, I, I had an idea kind of right there. I mean, Miles Taylor's abs, you know, the whole, the whole moment. And I had an idea kind of right then. And the next day it was exactly four hours. The next day I sent him, I ain't worried. And I was like, Hey, this song starts with a whistle. I hope you like whistling.
This is the track we're talking about here that he did. That's so crazy.
He did that in hours.
All right, bro. I'll talk to you soon. Stay in touch. Thanks again for calling.
You guys have a good day. Have a good day. Bye-bye.
