The Envelope in the Ditch That Knew the Future of 1914
Fear that something ordinary is hiding an impossible timeline: a sealed manila envelope postmarked April 5, 2011, contained a typewritten sheet dated April 5, 1914 that predicted a faculty confrontation, a student demonstration of about forty people, and a scaffolding collapse that injured August Preis on April 9, 1914-so why was the note mailed to itself and left to wash up in a ditch? Who would stage a relic to look like a century-old prophecy, and why?
In this episode, we follow the trail from a basset hound named Pepper pulling an envelope from a drainage channel to a doctoral candidate who mailed himself a photograph of a century-old document; we outline how the envelope surfaced, where the paper came from, and the question that drove eighteen months of research: why someone wanted the find to appear impossible?
