Ghost Pirates of L'Isle de Gombi | Campfire Tales

Deep in the coastal marshes of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, lies a secluded island near the mouth of Bayou Caillou known as L'Isle de Gombi. According to an old piece of Cajun folklore, this remote patch of land was once used by Gulf Coast pirates to conceal a fortune in stolen treasure, and some believe that the spirits of those who buried it still linger there, guarding their riches from anyone foolish enough to come looking. For generations, stories of these restless pirates have circulated among the families living along the surrounding bayous, but one particularly terrifying tale concerns a young Cajun man named Louis, whose determination to uncover the legendary treasure led him to venture out to the island alone one moonlit night. What he encountered there would become the subject of one of Louisiana's most chilling pirate legends.
