-Meta Platforms Inc (META) shares fell after Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg told investors the company would bet even more aggressively on artificial intelligence. The company boosted its capital spending plans for the year and announced a new class of nonvoting stock that could be used to help pay for acquisitions and other expenses. Meta's capital expenditures will be $135 billion to $145 billion in 2026, and its future spending commitments rose to $825 billion, including leases, computing deals and energy agreements.

The Stock Movers Report. Your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market. Harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.
Let's take a look at some of the stocks that are on the move. We can do that with Christina Aquino. She's a managing editor for MarketsLive. Joining us live here in our studio. What are you looking at, Christine?
All right, Paul, let's dig into meta, shall we? I mean, big news overnight. We know the headlines, right? They beat estimates. They raised the bottom end of the range for the CapEx spending. They even actually mapped out how they're going to make money exactly from their AI investments using their new agent, which is called Muse. But those shares still very firmly down today, ticker META, and they're currently down 5.5%.
You know, the focus really is all about financing, right? And our market size strategist, Tatiana Derrier, actually pointed out that their free cash flow was negative for the quarter. And that's the first time that we've seen that since the early days of Meta, essentially. And that's really the focus, right?
How are they going to pay for all of this investment? And given that cash flow is negative now, it looks like they're going to have to tap bond markets. That's probably why we are seeing those risk gauges for credits hitting record highs today, because that's a big question in investors' minds. Yeah.
And we heard this from, or we saw this with SpaceX as well, blowout earnings. But nevertheless, people worry that more debt is coming.
The last guest we had on Bloomberg Surveillance, bond fund manager, he says the next $ 2 to $ 3 trillion to fund AI The bond markets can be very different place than it was.
For the first two to three years.
It's going to cost them a lot more. And, I mean, you wonder how long they'll stay price insensitive for.
All right, next stock.
Let's take a look at Tesla as well. Reported after a while yesterday, ticker TSLA. That was actually down just before I got to the studio, but now up slightly, two-tenths of 1%. Look, I mean, it was a bit of a mixed bag for them. Profit beat estimates, revenue was slightly below. But Elon Musk sounded a lot more balanced during the earnings call. He was a little bit more down to earth, which is uncanny for him, right?
He tempered expectations around the timeline for the Optimus humanoid robots, a lot of supply chain challenges, design challenges. And he's saying that it's probably going to take until the end of 2027 for Tesla to work through some of those issues. So, you know, I think the fact that Elon didn't sound as excited as maybe he normally does. He was a little bit more tempered, was initially a bit of a downer for some of the investors, are very excited still about Tesla, pricing it beyond just an EV company. But I think the more realistic outlook actually now is doing a little bit better for the stock. And we're seeing that flip to the green as we get underway in the session here.
It's all irrelevant. It's just a question of how much Elon thinks he has to pay in SpaceX stock to buy Tesla.
I mean, is he negotiating with himself?
There's going to be some serious independent boards there, and they're going to have some serious representation from Wall Street and the legal community because that one's going to be, it's got to be super clean.
You wonder how much this is an arm's length negotiation versus, you know, something else.
They have to really dot their I's and cross their T's, I think.
The lawyers are going to get paid.
Well, the most important thing is they have.
To get it done before this administration leaves office.
Yes, yes, yes.
All right, real quick, LAM Research.
LAM Research. All right, take a look. LRCX down about 7.7%. Second quarter earnings weaker than expected than the midpoint of the range. Still a lot of optimism, though. Bloomberg Intelligence analysts saying that they could outgrow the wafer fab equipment market over the next two to three years. A couple of price target downgrades as well as need them. and Morgan Stanley. But you know what? All of those price targets that they've been downgraded to still imply about a 22% to 42% increase from the current price. So a little bit of disappointment from the earnings, but future outlook still looks good.
