Shownotes

On this episode of Stock Movers:
- Meta (META) shares rise. Meta Platforms Inc. is seeking to raise about $15 billion from the US dollar portion of a cross-border bond sale to fund the artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout.
- Shopify (SHOP) shares drop. Shopify Inc. shares sank after its quarterly revenue missed analysts’ expectations for the first time in four years. That’s the first revenue miss since the second quarter of 2022. Weaker-than-expected subscription solutions revenue weighed on results as merchant solutions, its largest unit, was roughly in line.
- Sysco (SYY) shares drop as much as 6.6%, most intraday since March 30, after the food/products distributor said it now expects full-year revenue growth at the low end of the its prior 6%-to-7% range, reflecting a lower inflation environment for the industry. Its call starts at 10am ET.

Bloomberg Audio Studios, podcasts, radio, news. The Stock Movers Report, your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market, harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.

Let's take a look at some of the stocks on the move today.

We can do that with Anne Guillen.

She's an earnings reporter for Bloomberg News. She joins us here in studio. Anne, what are you looking at today?

Today, I am looking at Meta, which is up about 2.5% right now. Meta is the latest big tech name to launch a bond sale. Over the past couple of days, Meta is seeking to raise about $ 15 billion in US dollars. That's part of at least $ 20 billion in total. And like I said, they are kind of the latest firm to jump in over the past couple of days. Oracle, Microsoft, and Alphabet have all launched bond sales recently, hoping to kind of squeeze that in before the midterms, take advantage of those lower yields.

Is that the timing of it all? Like in the past few days to get it ahead of the midterms? And you do it right after earnings. You can do it right after earnings and then you're freed up to go. Same as the banks.

The banks do it all that way.

Every quarter when the banks release their earnings the day after they come to market with a bond deal.

All right.

What's next?

Next is Shopify, which is ticker SHOP. Shopify is down. It's down as much as 11% this morning, down around 7% right now. That is after their quarterly revenue that they reported this morning. That was their first revenue miss in four years. They reported subscription revenue for the third quarter that fell short of expectations. And also their gross merchandise value came in a little bit lower than analysts were expecting.

So that might be a sign that shoppers are pulling back or, you know, Shopify is not growing quite as quickly as investors are used to. So that will certainly be interesting to watch, you know, headed into holiday shopping.

And finally, we have to distinguish whether it's an S or a C, but Cisco.

Yes, Cisco, which is ticker S-Y-Y.

This is the S-Cisco.

Yes.

You see their trucks as they come in in the morning.

S-Cisco, the food distributor, they are down as much as 6.6% this morning. Also, after they reported their earnings, they now expect... full year revenue growth at the lower end of their 6% to 7% growth that they forecast. And that is after poultry and dairy prices have come down. So obviously, if Cisco is selling those to restaurants, they're not making quite as much if those prices have come down.
