BB28 Premiere Thoughts

[SPEAKER_00]: Some of our has begun, according to the Chen Bot, Julie Chen Moonvez, [SPEAKER_00]: has officially announced the start of summer for us, and I'm excited, especially like the timing is right as love island is dying down, and it seems like we are getting an influx of people who think that big brother is going to replace love island, but [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how to, you know, fellow vets, vet watchers, veteran watchers of Big Brother.

0:49 [SPEAKER_00]: How do you describe this show to someone who's never watched this show? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how to describe Big Brother Big Brother just feels like it's something that we're used to, but it's like, I don't know if I recommend it to people because it's just, [SPEAKER_00]: It's corny, it's all of the things, and I don't know how to explain that to people, but it does give me joy in every summer.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I thought the Simpsons, but maybe reality competitive, but either way, good for them. [SPEAKER_00]: It's been going on since like when has the show started? [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, 2009?

2:46 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to say 2008. [SPEAKER_00]: This is in 2008. [SPEAKER_00]: But either way, it's still what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: We've been through some bumps along the way, but here we are, still standing. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, my history with Big Brother, for anyone who's new to the show, listening to me for the first time, I have watched every season from the very beginning, um, my tie to Big Brothers at the first winner is an alumni from my.

3:13 [SPEAKER_00]: college. [SPEAKER_00]: And we all had to vote for him because back then the votes were to the public. [SPEAKER_00]: So they set up a phone and we're all there voting at the University Center and voting for them. [SPEAKER_00]: So I was like, I was curious about it if I will happen. [SPEAKER_00]: And so that's how I got hooked.

3:28 [SPEAKER_00]: And then I just watched it every summer. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, the only season I haven't watched was the OTT. [SPEAKER_00]: I think online season or something. [SPEAKER_00]: The one incidentally that Morgan won. [SPEAKER_00]: If you watch the challenge, you know who Morgan was, it's Johnny Benanas X, now dating the guy from the Bachelor.

3:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Whew. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the D stars. [SPEAKER_00]: But yes, that's the only season I say I haven't watched, but every other season I have watched and I have stuck through it through thick and thin. [SPEAKER_00]: So we do the usual where everybody gets to find out that they're going to be on big brothers like, oh my god, my keys.

3:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Yay. [SPEAKER_00]: So Ashley, she was the first person to introduce and she really caught my attention and I feel like we're going to see her in other shows. [SPEAKER_00]: She just has that reality show thing. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it is yet, but just my first impression of her, I feel like.

4:13 [SPEAKER_00]: She has the material to be on other shows besides Big Brother. [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see. [SPEAKER_00]: We meet LeCris who is 57 and she talks about wanting to be, she's in the best shape of her life and she is training for a bodybuilding contest. [SPEAKER_00]: And my thought is just you are going to be locked up for a while all summer.

4:32 [SPEAKER_00]: How is that going to affect your training? [SPEAKER_00]: Like how are you going to do your training? [SPEAKER_00]: Like I hope they give you all the foods that you need? [SPEAKER_00]: Like what if you have to be on slop? [SPEAKER_00]: That's all I was thinking about when she said that. [SPEAKER_00]: But she is right.

4:43 [SPEAKER_00]: She looks pretty good for 57. [SPEAKER_00]: But this is a thing that we face on big brother every time. [SPEAKER_00]: they want to cast a older person. [SPEAKER_00]: We get like just one or two and then that's it and then they end up feeling like the outcast or the parents to much younger people and I get it.

5:00 [SPEAKER_00]: It's just sometimes it feels like is it worth just casting one or two or just not at all? [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's not fun watching someone [SPEAKER_00]: be an outsider. [SPEAKER_00]: Like I remember when Miss Felicia and Seri won the same season, at least they had each other, but it's just one or two, but what if someone you don't get along and you just always feel, you know, on the out, it's like, is it bad to cast at least the be or four?

5:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, why is it always one or two? [SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand that. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, we see lyric, I want to say that lyric has been an American idol, like, what are the odds of the American American idol, but she's also a lawyer and the fact that she practices eviction law is actually hilarious because big brothers known for eviction.

5:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Um, when they all gather and they're all, these are just the people that stood out to me. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, they're still other people, but those are the three that stood out for me in the first batch. [SPEAKER_00]: So when they're in the live stage, I'm so glad we have a live audience back.

5:59 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not the first time, but those days, those seasons when we didn't have a live audience, it was kind of painful. [SPEAKER_00]: But, [SPEAKER_00]: when they were just starting on stage, and they had just women and Julie jokes like, oh, it's an all women season. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I mean, I knew it was an all women season, but I thought they were gonna make them compete by gender.

6:18 [SPEAKER_00]: For the video you've been watching for a while, you know that there's been complaints that with all the challenges, it just seems like the men have the advantage. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, do the women even have a chance, like the men just end up being like the compass. [SPEAKER_00]: It's been a while since we had [SPEAKER_00]: I say this, as I say, a woman competes, but, you know, working was pretty good last season.

6:37 [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, they're having complaints though through the season that, you know, there's been an advantage for the men. [SPEAKER_00]: So for the, that was my first thought, was that they were going to make the competitions or the challenge, the first challenge for HOH, be all women, then the next group of guys, like the next batch would be all guys and then they'll be all men and then we'll go from there.

6:57 [SPEAKER_00]: But it wasn't. [SPEAKER_00]: So the men, we sat seeing who the men are, [SPEAKER_00]: and we see Jason and for those of you who watch drag race like I do, better known as Selena STDs, but I guess you cannot say that on prime time. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's just Jason. [SPEAKER_00]: They make no mention of the STDs, but I am surprised, you know, like, you know, part of her job is, okay, here's the thing.

7:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Jason, I think, I don't pronounce as he, but I'm saying she, because when we watch Drag Race, we just refer to all of them as she. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you hear me say she or interchangeably, if I say he, that's why, because I'm thinking of Selena. [SPEAKER_00]: She just, okay, see, I just did it again.

7:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Jayce, well, Selena is, I'll say, she. [SPEAKER_00]: She just competed in the last all stars and didn't make it through. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's, she's pretty recent in my mind. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's just, if you see me go back and forth, forgive me, that's what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: Because we just say she won't watch in drag race, but she's competing as Jason and he.

8:04 [SPEAKER_00]: his pronouns on here. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm surprised that CBS actually showed this, and CBS actually showed that he does drag, because CBS is known to be on the wrong side of history. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm also happy for him, because he gets to expand his fanbase, like beyond drag race, like bouncing off of and taking advantage of recently being on drag race.

8:27 [SPEAKER_00]: But you get to see more people with big brother, especially this season where we're gonna have people [SPEAKER_00]: So if I were added to this, so you know you get to expand your reach. [SPEAKER_00]: I was not pleased with Jason or rather I was not pleased with Selena on the last appearance on all start because she was not happy about how it all went down and it was just to me like poor sportsmanship like I get it like very upset and she was good.

8:59 [SPEAKER_00]: All this forgiven, I am rooting for him on Big Brother, but it was just fun to see him on CBS. [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's just weird to just see everyone because later down we're going to talk about the people who are coming from other shows and it's just such a weird thing to see them in other shows.

9:17 [SPEAKER_00]: We have Barrett, Barrett is like, I think, six, six like his really tall and not Barrett having Angela as a favorite house guest because as we know spoiler alert, Angela is going to come in as a guest. [SPEAKER_00]: But I like him. [SPEAKER_00]: I like his vibe. [SPEAKER_00]: See what he has.

9:31 [SPEAKER_00]: And then we have Chuck from Dallas. [SPEAKER_00]: You guys hear me say this all the time. [SPEAKER_00]: Your reality show is not complete. [SPEAKER_00]: If there's not an Nigerian, guys, even now you're going to first out of Australia [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, it's not complete, but yeah, we have Chuck from Dallas and we have a Nigerian so of course I'm going to be rooting for the Nigerian cowboy, I'm not sure why he thinks that he stands out in the Nigerian culture.

9:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I know what he means, but hello, Shibuzi is out there, so, you know, not that unique anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: You have representation. [SPEAKER_00]: We have Yash, and I feel like we have a lot of people from New Jersey. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm exaggerating, I think this is like three of four, but that's a lot in the grand scheme of things.

10:15 [SPEAKER_00]: We have Kamu, who is like a UFC fighter, which is already causing controversy. [SPEAKER_00]: So, [SPEAKER_00]: Is it a big brother season if there's no controversy going on because there's just always problematic people it's not unique to big brother it's just reality shows in general and just the world that we living where it is hard to find people that are not problematic, but it's like how much research are we doing now.

10:42 [SPEAKER_00]: The issue is not that I guess he's. [SPEAKER_00]: conservative. [SPEAKER_00]: whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is like this is someone who like based on their social media has actively liked like you know homophobic, transphobic videos, you know things that say things like pray the gay away, you know and saying like pride is a demonic flag and kind of saying like trans people are mentally ill.

11:09 [SPEAKER_00]: I [SPEAKER_00]: Those are very strong words. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just, do we think that's okay to put in a, you know, experiment where there will be people from all different sides of the world. [SPEAKER_00]: Like for example, I just talked about Jason, Jason is gay, Jason does drag. [SPEAKER_00]: So what, you know, how does that work?

11:30 [SPEAKER_00]: So even if you go out there and I know some of my argue, you like, oh, that's how you get exposing your butt the expense of, [SPEAKER_00]: or what granted Jason is not going to know because there's no access to social media or whoever else is in the house like we don't know that it's gay but what if Camel really you know has this strong beliefs beyond just you know liking it Is it okay to be in the same house?

11:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know this that that's you know what I was thinking about and I don't know We'll see what happens but [SPEAKER_00]: This is the dilemma, like I've been talking a lot more about this reality TV is like where do we go when this seems to be more common than not these days, you know?

12:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Alright, so Julie says that the first group can head on into the house and Camel opens the door and Jason walks in first, if you're new to Big Brother, the the law is that it is bad luck to be the first person to walk into the house. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you are the first person to reach the door, usually what happens is you open the door for people and you let them walk in.

12:37 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that's been debunked, but it's just been that way for years. [SPEAKER_00]: the door. [SPEAKER_00]: Ashley already has her eyes on a mustache man Rome because she really likes mustachees, but she's just lower role because Barrett is coming in and he has a mustache too. [SPEAKER_00]: Looks like Drew is already annoying people.

12:59 [SPEAKER_00]: He's not even from California, but he he he he presents us like a surfer bro. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's how everyone is um. [SPEAKER_00]: Describing him and they're saying like who's it that he was in a way? [SPEAKER_00]: I want to say was melody and just saying like he wouldn't shut up And he just keeps talking so there's that looks like a result to me, but he might turn things around So some of the points out and it was like I think it was actually [SPEAKER_00]: Drew saying that more only 14 something is up something is going to happen something is we're not complete more people are going to come as he says that Julie calls them all into the living room and let's them know that for the first time no one currently in the house will become the first age of age I would think that that takes pressure off of them be winning the first age of age is such a

13:46 [SPEAKER_00]: It's such a gamble. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that I want to win the first HOH, like yes, I will be safe, but I'm gonna put a target on my back because the minute you put people up for a nomination, you've given them a reason to return the favor and you have nothing that you're going [SPEAKER_00]: on with, like, you're just numbing them just because or on fortunate events, like you could have taken a shower, like Ashley, that's the issue.

14:12 [SPEAKER_00]: One, or you could have just had someone jealous of you like Taylor, but then she won. [SPEAKER_00]: So wait, am I onto something? [SPEAKER_00]: If you can nominate it and you survive, you might be on the right track to being a winner. [SPEAKER_00]: But as I was saying, I just feel like being the first HOH is just too much pressure.

14:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I would want it. [SPEAKER_00]: I understand that anything could put you on the block because you don't know enough about each other. [SPEAKER_00]: So you want to guarantee that safety, but, you know, [SPEAKER_00]: I'll just be in the middle and blend in. [SPEAKER_00]: As long as I'm not the one nominated and survived that, then that's okay.

14:44 [SPEAKER_00]: I think if I had to pick, I would say, I would not want to be the first H8. [SPEAKER_00]: So to me, I think it was a relief. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, you don't have to worry about that, you know? [SPEAKER_00]: So the theme of this season because they've seen on the wall different times in different areas, I thought it was gonna be eras because, you know, eras is a buzzword now.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then they get Enzo, the Meow Meow, [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it is that he was describing and I'm like why do they love this man like even after his it has nothing to do with the other But for me it does he's a bismal showing on the challenge USA But I digress, but he tells him the story on time travel tells him about the dining table How it's gonna be a time machine how they're going to?

15:28 [SPEAKER_00]: like go back in time and this is what i mean guys like big brother is episode like it's just how do you explain the corny challenges especially fix like we understand it but how do you explain but you know what i would like to know if this is your first time watching big brother what did you think about all of that like was it to corny for you or were you like [SPEAKER_00]: entertain like it's silly enough to just just what you need to be distracted from the real world let me know because in my eyes I'm watching it and I'm cringing like oh my god I don't want someone to watch this like this is corny but I'm used to it you know so Julie tells them that they'll all be going on a time trip this summer.

16:06 [SPEAKER_00]: And they will be experiencing alternate twists and turns and oh my god, I'm so scared. [SPEAKER_00]: It's very scary because jagged anybody. [SPEAKER_00]: This is how we got jagged to be a winner. [SPEAKER_00]: There was so many twists and turns. [SPEAKER_00]: You know Rachel also how she got evicted and all the things but [SPEAKER_00]: such as the DNA of Big Brother.

16:23 [SPEAKER_00]: So they're going to be sent to the past in three groups of four people. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, how do you choose? [SPEAKER_00]: How do you choose who's gonna be in each group? [SPEAKER_00]: But the winner is gonna bring back a reality icon. [SPEAKER_00]: So Julie tells them that three familiar faces will be entering the game, but not everyone is going to compete.

16:42 [SPEAKER_00]: So they do, like again, they have to do like a math problem and Ashley and Barrett don't win so they don't get to compete for safety so they automatically not safe. [SPEAKER_00]: So the first time or date that they have to go back to is July 9, 1988, I'm like, how did I get this supposed to mean anything to anyone?

17:03 [SPEAKER_00]: thing melody goes go back in time they're in a mall and then there's someone that's in the mall and I guess that's supposed to be the person or a teenager in 1988. [SPEAKER_00]: When we say gag me with a spoon in 1988 can someone confirm this for me because I wasn't sure I was like isn't this recent maybe we're just recycling.

17:23 [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of normal room wins and they have to like stack things up and make it stay and they have to stay for like 10 seconds and everyone was struggling [SPEAKER_00]: and then he wins, he delivers the letter, the doorbell rings, and Angelo walks in. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's treat this so happy, deep down, to have a fellow age mate in there, because she thinks you already surveyed the rumours, like, uh, no one's my age here.

17:47 [SPEAKER_00]: But, um, yeah, so they hug each other, everyone's like, oh my god, that's a lot of that. [SPEAKER_00]: That's so happy. [SPEAKER_00]: That's one of these favorite players, and guys in popular opinion, [SPEAKER_00]: It's not for me, but I'm willing to see if I enjoy her better this season.

18:08 [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't any better on amazing race when she was on with her daughters, so I hope I get there, but I'm not there yet, so we'll see. [SPEAKER_00]: They do the second competition, Chuck wins the second competition, but they didn't have a person in there, but something I should point out, two for two, the man have won so far, then we get a Jeff Probs cameo, and this is why I love this show.

18:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Jeff just sees something in top secret and he's like, he'll be perfect for a big brother and I'm like, oh, [SPEAKER_00]: I love love love one. [SPEAKER_00]: I love returning players for like most especially survivor, but for most things now when I say survived returning players I don't mean like when someone leaves and then you bring them back because I'm like why and you know project wrong way is going to be doing that this new season [SPEAKER_00]: where they're bringing about people who are competing last season.

18:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't mean that because that's their soon and that's back to back. [SPEAKER_00]: And also, it's a project run way. [SPEAKER_00]: Give it up people or chance. [SPEAKER_00]: Why are people coming back immediately? [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like things like Survivor 50, Survivor 40, or when they have a back then release, have themes on Survivor, where [SPEAKER_00]: returning players came back and there were themes like blood vessels water or when big brother had themes and we had returning players also like I like when they come back so I'm excited for this so the thing is that you know it's not real reactions because again the world that we live in we already knew and same in weekly already announced who is gonna be

19:35 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, part of the cast. [SPEAKER_00]: So you already know and a little of that joys already that surprise effect is taken away. [SPEAKER_00]: But the next guest walks in and it's Rick Devons and I'm so happy. [SPEAKER_00]: Y'all know I'm a Devon's gal. [SPEAKER_00]: And I want to see how he operates in this.

19:53 [SPEAKER_00]: I always like to see how people fit in when they're not in their [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, is it called origin show or their home base show, whatever it is? [SPEAKER_00]: So, devins is coming to Big Brother. [SPEAKER_00]: I think the only person that's done the crossover has been so re-over to Big Brother.

20:14 [SPEAKER_00]: We did have someone from Big Brother. [SPEAKER_00]: I am forgetting his name I see him right now, who went over to Survivor and he had to have a medical emergency. [SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm curious to see how Devins does in this, like he's very, um, [SPEAKER_00]: Strategic and I don't want to say conniving, but we'll see how it goes because already he's going to be known as a threat And somehow I do think the survivor fans and BB fans overlapped So it's not a case of he's coming in and they have no idea who he is people do know you know who he is So everyone is all strong someone is like oh my god This is a dream come true, but also a nightmare and I'm not sure why but someone is like so devins did you win?

20:53 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like [SPEAKER_00]: Big Brother isn't real time. [SPEAKER_00]: 50 is aired, done, dusted, it's been a couple of months. [SPEAKER_00]: So why are we asking if you won? [SPEAKER_00]: No, he didn't. [SPEAKER_00]: So... [SPEAKER_00]: There goes Angela overreacting again like just like, oh my god, but I'm just glad at this point that someone told her that her brass drop in the first time she was in the confessional was showing and now it's fixed now and it's not showing anymore so good for her.

21:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Jason whispers and was like we can not trust this guy and I'm like Jason you're just lucky that you're not being identified as a reality show icon. [SPEAKER_00]: I understand. [SPEAKER_00]: She's not an icon, but it's just like why, you know, what is the separation? [SPEAKER_00]: Is it like, like, drag race is pretty iconic and it's pretty famous.

21:38 [SPEAKER_00]: So why is Jason not considered to be one of the reality show icons? [SPEAKER_00]: You know, anybody make a case for that? [SPEAKER_00]: Just, I mean, a survivor is history, but will we say that Angela is more of an icon than Selena? [SPEAKER_00]: Am I reaching? [SPEAKER_00]: Let me know.

21:56 [SPEAKER_00]: So, [SPEAKER_00]: All right, um, yes, they're saying right now Jason is saying like you can't trust devence, but here's what happens anytime there's like a competitive reality show and there's a returning player who's kind of iconic there is something the first time or is you like we have to get him out we have to get him out we saw this as recently as last season.

22:16 [SPEAKER_00]: where they were like, we have to get rich a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: But there's something about the vets coming back that they just want to bask in their knowledge. [SPEAKER_00]: They see them as a meat shield. [SPEAKER_00]: Meat shield is like, you know, they're more of a target than they ever will be because everyone knows what they can do.

22:32 [SPEAKER_00]: But they also want to be like, okay, they'll tell me how to play the game. [SPEAKER_00]: And as long as I'm on their good side, then I should be fine. [SPEAKER_00]: That's usually what happens. [SPEAKER_00]: That's how Boston Rob eventually got his way into a win on some fiber. [SPEAKER_00]: and then you keep watching it like, why are we keeping them that long?

22:46 [SPEAKER_00]: There's no reason censorship would twice, you know, we keep keeping them and they stay, you know, that long. [SPEAKER_00]: And like we all know the power of Siri, but Siri made it to [SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it's so made it that long. [SPEAKER_00]: So you know, there's something about that.

23:01 [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm curious to see how this is going to be maneuvered by devins and angular with the season. [SPEAKER_00]: So the final four groups of four go back to 2010 and I guess this time the game didn't depend on strength and it's kind of like an equal leveler between the men and the women. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not sure at this point if the diary room hasn't been set up yet because it is kind of weird.

23:22 [SPEAKER_00]: So up close and. [SPEAKER_00]: you know, the background is like weird. [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't feel like the usual diary room that we know from the past. [SPEAKER_00]: They sat there supposed to listen to see how many times they hear something about a cocktail and buzz it and whoever buzzes in last is eliminated.

23:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Guys, the slime was so aggressive when it slots slap them literally to the wall. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, guys, it's just the first day. [SPEAKER_00]: They don't even get to shower. [SPEAKER_00]: They haven't even set up and everything. [SPEAKER_00]: All like I think of it as a food was me, my hair, my goodness.

23:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Like imagine there's someone who had a wig on, like, what, what, that's too much. [SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, so Jason wins and guys, just like I said earlier, it's just hard to say Jason and not, I always just want to say Selena's cities. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm getting there, guys.
