Episode 158 - Dante pt 2 – Are the tales of Dante real, fabrications, or a combo of both?

3:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Fairwildens are fun because it is light years beautiful. [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of you actually have seen it and don't realize you have because they fill it a lot. [SPEAKER_01]: The fairwildens are used for movies and TV quite a bit. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got a very wild landscape. [SPEAKER_01]: They have these sheer cliffs that descend right into a blue ocean and these rolling hills, the greens, browns and yellows, truly stunning place.

3:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Doing knock on it is a place Brad and I really can't go because it is a place that if you like talking to people and interacting, you are not very welcome. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a very kind of calm and quiet community, which are two things that Brad and I do not do well with the federal islands.

[SPEAKER_01]: As in, you could get everyone into a mini van and drive to the next village and conquer it, I guess I actually technically. [SPEAKER_01]: They're also white-years polite. [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't get their first traffic light until 2002, and that was because of tourists.

3:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Up until that point, they had no problems with it, but then tourists kept going there, and almost causing car accidents because they wouldn't wait their turn. [SPEAKER_01]: And everyone else there was just like, all right, put up a stupid traffic light, maybe they'll make us slow down. [SPEAKER_01]: So, someone on those countries that I'm not [SPEAKER_01]: That's the same true in Wales, New Zealand, Mongolia, Australia has more sheep than people.

4:16 [SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of people in Australia. [SPEAKER_01]: It's a stupid phrase, but you will hear it in occasion. [SPEAKER_01]: They have more sheep than people, shut up. [SPEAKER_01]: The more interesting one, they have no prisons. [SPEAKER_01]: If you get convicted of serious crime there, they ship you to Denmark.

4:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, go Danes and my favorite one though is they have a local language and by local, it's I mean local. [SPEAKER_01]: Far on East is the language and it's dialect shifts depending on where you are. [SPEAKER_01]: 17 islands, they're not far from each other, but they shift quite a bit in language.

4:52 [SPEAKER_01]: And the best part of their language is they have 70, 70 words for fog. [SPEAKER_01]: They have a lot of fog there and decided just to give all of a different names. [SPEAKER_01]: They have a word for snow fog. [SPEAKER_01]: they have a word for dense fog. [SPEAKER_01]: They have a word for regular fog.

5:08 [SPEAKER_01]: They have fog on the water, but not in the sky. [SPEAKER_01]: Now we fog, so in the sky, but not in the ground. [SPEAKER_01]: And even they have a special word for if it's foggy on a national holiday. [SPEAKER_01]: That fog has its own name. [SPEAKER_00]: I like the fog much fog is there.

[SPEAKER_01]: And at this side, we're not just going to call this one fog. [SPEAKER_01]: Because, you know, what kind of fog? [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well, how much fog and then they have a word for it.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, but with that, let's talk about a severe badass, which is Dante. [SPEAKER_01]: As we covered last week, Dante was one of the first named characters to enter the game. [SPEAKER_01]: And so he was written as a lead from the front character.

6:07 [SPEAKER_01]: So he had to be the most badass of all bad asses, and this created kind of a funny thing though from a red constant point. [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll be going over this a lot today, but I just want to open with this. [SPEAKER_01]: The early lore Dante was written when GW was a fledgling company, just for the record, Black Library didn't come into existence until 1999.

6:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Dante predates that. [SPEAKER_01]: Up until then they were licensing out the independent authors to write these kind of random books with some questions about how canon they are. [SPEAKER_00]: We're at an overarching black library, keeping everything kind of together, the Charlie board.

6:55 [SPEAKER_00]: We're experiencing a lot of stuff that was just very conflicting as far as what was going on a one book to the next. [SPEAKER_01]: Power level and everything else. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you an example for the Dark Angels fans. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a book, a physico that just called a physico in the 1990.

7:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Go pull that one and be like, wait, ha, these books are all over the place, and but this does is the problem is Dante created a bit of a problem. [SPEAKER_00]: At one point, he moved from chapter master to almost demigod, which he was just crushing because every story about him was everybody else gets killed and he kills armies by himself.

7:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the English like one, it probably [SPEAKER_01]: for those of our listeners who are fans of the great nights, seen by way of Drake going out. [SPEAKER_01]: Drake got way too powerful, and that's also why it pulled them out of the game. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, he's not the codex anymore, why?

7:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Because he's a god, effectively. [SPEAKER_01]: So the issue there is that GW, if you're had a handle it. [SPEAKER_01]: And they handle it, actually, I, [SPEAKER_01]: shit on GW writing a lot, but when they do it right, I was going to give them benefits. [SPEAKER_01]: What they did was they took the more recent lore about Dante, and they've just implied the stories that we read about Dante back in the 90s and early 0s.

8:12 [SPEAKER_01]: We're not first hand accounts. [SPEAKER_01]: They were second and third, fourth hand accounts. [SPEAKER_01]: And so these became like tall tales and fables about him. [SPEAKER_01]: And this is allowed then to keep Dante in the game and make him a more [SPEAKER_01]: a realistic character again despite the fact he did some stuff really there's no way he did that.

8:31 [SPEAKER_00]: But unlike some of the more well-known chapter master's you have, Logan who's just kind of everybody sees he's a man of people, he's a space wealthy, wants to be down with he wants the tales to be told about and the skulls to sing about him. [SPEAKER_00]: You've got Marneus Calgar who's more like a [SPEAKER_00]: on or diplomat almost elder statesmen of the people both these people have their very public very viewed personas.

8:57 [SPEAKER_00]: People that interact with Dante, he's like a avenging angel. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, he is the blood age, but he's the dude that shows up and does stuff, but even when you see him and possibly interact, it's him and his battle and then he just doses out. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not [SPEAKER_00]: in front of you doing this thing.

9:17 [SPEAKER_00]: So they can keep that still tall tails may or may not be true with Dante. [SPEAKER_00]: And I like that quite a bit how they've kept him kind of, oh, he's always a ways and arms from everybody else. [SPEAKER_00]: Is he doing this thing? [SPEAKER_00]: Is he a badass 100,000 percent? [SPEAKER_00]: But they make it some of his old tails.

9:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Are they still true? [SPEAKER_00]: I saw Dante from down the way. [SPEAKER_00]: And there was a bunch of demons. [SPEAKER_00]: And then there wasn't a bunch of demons. [SPEAKER_00]: Did he do it? [SPEAKER_01]: how might also true some of his stories to the point everyone else is dead. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like Dante is a soul survivor.

9:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Like yeah, he's a soul survivor because he did this this and this and the question is like, hey, well, really nothing else happens, but let's actually end up doing where we're going to tell some stories of Dante tonight, but let's see that's where you guys kind of tell for yourself. [SPEAKER_01]: So.

10:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Where we left off, Dante has now taken command. [SPEAKER_01]: And the next bit, by the way, we're going to talk about comes from a book called Warlords of the Imperium, which is really hard to find. [SPEAKER_01]: Just so you guys know, it took me a while to pull some of this stuff because this is stuff that these are books that are not in print and will never be in print again.

10:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And y'all, I found me a way to get it. [SPEAKER_01]: Bam, bam. [SPEAKER_01]: So Dante takes his promotion to chapter master, literally wearing power armor that he was fighting in the Kalea sector that still got blood on it. [SPEAKER_01]: So he, you know, elevated pretty quickly, but they didn't take that red power armor away from him and he puts on the gold power armor of a blood angel's chapter master, which is something that they are unique in this by the way.

10:50 [SPEAKER_01]: the chapter master of the blendles wears an armor that's meant to symbolize sanguinious. [SPEAKER_01]: That's why it's where is this all gold outfit? [SPEAKER_01]: Or is ever the chapter master just wears blue white green, whatever, because that's what our army is. [SPEAKER_00]: And they've got the the sanguinard guard that also go into gold, which is specifically supposed to be the honored guard that are only even though every game you put as many sanguinard guard is there are in the entire galaxy, but that's just on the batable.

11:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for 10, [SPEAKER_01]: Wait, how many assassins do you have? [SPEAKER_01]: I run it all for them. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: But they also have the, I like this because they also do the death mass and everything else. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not, I mean, most Marines are not trying to be stealthy, some, too, the chapters are.

11:37 [SPEAKER_00]: But especially when you're doing some blood angel stuff, these guys are letting you know that they're coming, they're commanders in. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about Dante, so the first thing Dante does in taking over the chapter Master, is he's focused on re-growing the chapter.

11:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Dante had been raised the chapter Master because remember, [SPEAKER_01]: every other captain was dead, which means most of the blood Eagles were dead, too. [SPEAKER_01]: The attack on the Calais sector, which is also how we got to captain. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the bad shit happens a lot.

12:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Dante's is a very tough dude. [SPEAKER_00]: However, if you in Dante are going into combat, you're like, I'm so happy that these [SPEAKER_00]: unbelievably powerful hero of the imperiums here, but also, man, a lot of people wear red shirts when he's around. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, what colors their army?

12:29 [SPEAKER_00]: That's the problem. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what's about to set. [SPEAKER_01]: But that's the issue. [SPEAKER_01]: You are the red shirt army and then the one dude not wearing a red shirt is over there. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, look, he survived. [SPEAKER_01]: Weird. [SPEAKER_01]: So, Dante knows that this chapter can do nothing right now.

12:43 [SPEAKER_01]: It's written that there's probably only a couple hundred blanks left in the galaxy at this point. [SPEAKER_01]: So, he starts rebuilding the chapter. [SPEAKER_01]: He puts a call out to all the people across ball, ball, primus, ball, secundas, and the moons of ball that hey, we need more recruits.

12:56 [SPEAKER_01]: And so, the people there start doing what you do to make more people. [SPEAKER_01]: So, credit recruits do, and then start offering over all of their children to the blood angels. [SPEAKER_00]: in record numbers though, but we're on anything before he's I want to see Dante's closing speech when he's coming in as a coach from a college football team and giving you the you should go to school here because apparently his is pretty damn good and every time he shows up people do whatever the hell he's saying to do but he also takes a step further which I really do like in the Lord because he doesn't just say I need more people someone give me more people [SPEAKER_01]: focusing on the GNC program, trying to make sure that they're maximizing the recruit success ratio.

13:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Certainly, the lot has not even done the past. [SPEAKER_01]: He also starts overseeing a lot more of the recruitment itself, overseeing the trials, bringing the new recruits coming into, bringing different chapter veterans to train them. [SPEAKER_01]: His goal was to not only have more recruits, but have them be able to get to what we call air quotes, your fighting strength a lot faster.

14:02 [SPEAKER_01]: And to make things even better, he also met with each recruit as the emerge on their sarcophagus when they survived, obviously. [SPEAKER_01]: And he handed them their blood drop pendant himself. [SPEAKER_01]: And all of this was done, whether it meant to or not, had the a function of making him this much stronger bonded leader within the blood angels and anyone prior, because established veterans are now looking at him as a prime example of leadership, because he always leads [SPEAKER_00]: massive adjustment chapter well he looks at the people from the very lowest the people that are coming in the neophytes he knows his people by name he's interested in them making it into the blood angel so morale is at it all time yeah everyone loves him

14:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Not to mention the fact that the whole chapter is like, oh yeah, I used to read stories about this guy, he's there, that does help. [SPEAKER_01]: So within a hundred years or so, the chapter goes in the brink of extinction, that default strength. [SPEAKER_01]: And not just in size and power, but they truly unified.

15:03 [SPEAKER_01]: almost great crusade level function. [SPEAKER_01]: They are the best that they've ever been at this stage. [SPEAKER_00]: And for well trained at the time, too, these guys are going into the specific blood angels tactics. [SPEAKER_00]: And they make a point of that a couple of the stories that Dante made it a big deal to train not just as marines train, but has blood angels train so that they knew exactly what he wanted of them from day one.

15:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: So with this full strength legion, Dante launches back into the galaxy. [SPEAKER_01]: And we don't have a lot of official dates for some of these, but we know all of this happens between M40 and the middle of M41. [SPEAKER_01]: Because once you get to M41, the stories get dates on them.

15:45 [SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to cover right now his... [SPEAKER_01]: Post chapter master basically pre-war of Armageddon Dante stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: This couple's had a bounce around a little bit, and this is a really cool time within the Imperium from a standard of writing. [SPEAKER_01]: So the Eisenhower novels are set number 200s of M41.

16:02 [SPEAKER_01]: This is about World Crusades, 700s of M41. [SPEAKER_01]: The second war of Armageddon, 941 of M41. [SPEAKER_01]: The fall of Cadia, 999 M41. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're talking M40 for a lot of this stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: just to give you an idea of when this is, you don't have concrete dates because we don't need the besection of time for another bounce it off of.

16:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Now, the first one we're going to get to is Skylose. [SPEAKER_01]: Dante goes to Skylose. [SPEAKER_01]: There's a chaos sorcerer there who's practicing chromancy, time warping time, I was saying he's cast a warp time. [SPEAKER_01]: Sure, and knowing that I was the forks, but I move on. [SPEAKER_00]: So the entire war of time is a steam staple spell from chaos for very long time.

16:45 [SPEAKER_01]: No, it is that just like I made him go faster. [SPEAKER_01]: Don, thank you very much. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's very powerful and down the tabletop. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just calling it out though. [SPEAKER_01]: So the entire planet gets covered in this time warp storm and Dante deploys there with his blood angels to air quotes here, remove the stain from the planet.

17:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, the story becomes very Dante, because Dante confronts the chrome answer. [SPEAKER_01]: The chrome answer looks up at Dante and goes, I'm about to get my ass kicked. [SPEAKER_01]: And so he's like, but I'm gonna cast a spell on you. [SPEAKER_01]: So he cast a spell that sucks a few decades of life out of Dante, and which Dante effectively goes, I've been around a long time already, man.

17:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't really care about being here. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, [SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, good to hear, bro. [SPEAKER_00]: You're like, I got your hit me up with a couple of decades. [SPEAKER_00]: I get a hope that I'm done in another thousand. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and just hacks the chrome acid at death of the X. Palmsalt.

17:40 [SPEAKER_01]: The next chunk we see of him, that's kind of independent Dante. [SPEAKER_01]: The next big one for him is meant to be more of an example of his leadership skills. [SPEAKER_01]: So the Macarion Heresy, which we covered at some point, I believe, Lord Solar Macarious conquered a large chunk of segmental pacificus.

17:55 [SPEAKER_01]: After he left, a lot of those worlds were like, yeah, we liked him. [SPEAKER_01]: The Lord's Aterus suck, and so they all went into rebellion. [SPEAKER_01]: So the invasion had to be done. [SPEAKER_01]: Dante and the Blondonels wrote some of the ones who deployed. [SPEAKER_01]: But when they get there, Dante realized that because the size of the caring heresy, the traditional method that the blood angel were space marine uses, which is these little lightning strikes to shape a battle towards victory, we're never going to be enough.

18:22 [SPEAKER_01]: So he just goes, how about I just take command? [SPEAKER_01]: So he does. [SPEAKER_01]: He takes command of guard regimens, naval and elements, as much direct them around, which I will also point out is a complete and code of violation of code extarties and actually having the Imperium has because that's what made the heresy happened.

18:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Was a person in charge of a legionally. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_01]: It's funny, it does it, but it's just, I want to put it, this is how bad ass Dante is. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's not a knock on Dante. [SPEAKER_01]: It's Dante came in and was like, I'm going to do this thing now that everyone has written down.

18:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not supposed to be able to do, but you're going to let me do it because when I do it, we're going to win. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's exactly what happens. [SPEAKER_01]: He starts just returning the battle around until he gets to a point where the chaos fortress, whatever you want to call the main base of them gets exposed.

19:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And then he goes, [SPEAKER_01]: I don't care about any of you, other guys. [SPEAKER_01]: Blaine Joel's Ho, and they just lightning strike down into that thing, and he personally kills the warlord himself. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because that's how it rolls, baby. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I'd like that story though, because it is Dante going, hey, I can't use my chapter enough here doing to do.

19:32 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm gonna take command of more, and we're gonna win the war because I not only can command space Marines, I can command regular people. [SPEAKER_01]: It's almost primarck-esque. [SPEAKER_01]: And some of stuff he's doing there, [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he did some super bad. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're going to talk about cutting Scarborough and in half is going to be one of the things we got.

19:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, about what we're looking there. [SPEAKER_00]: Everything about the ultimate macarious sector, there's a multiple campaigns there. [SPEAKER_00]: We're three, by the way, everyone. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of stories there that are very, very good. [SPEAKER_00]: People ask us all the time, you know, what should I read as far as that?

20:03 [SPEAKER_00]: All of those campaigns are have a lot of blunningles lore in them here in it. [SPEAKER_01]: Not totally great. [SPEAKER_01]: Fun one though because I get like like cow, so let's talk about cow. [SPEAKER_01]: What's that even then? [SPEAKER_01]: I like this one a lot. [SPEAKER_01]: I love this.

20:18 [SPEAKER_00]: God loves this a ton. [SPEAKER_00]: But it's such a, it's just first round knockout. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not even a real battle. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: This is great. [SPEAKER_01]: So for those who don't realize, there was a big part of how a lore back in the day. [SPEAKER_01]: We don't get as much of it now, but originally into the towel lore, the towel would go to imperial settlements and convince them to turn their backs on the imperial.

20:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Basically, becoming human, you know, traders the imperial. [SPEAKER_01]: They would swear, at least if the greater good, and they'd go beyond team towel. [SPEAKER_01]: Dante got to one of these, looked around and went, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, how about no, and he's trying to do that and kills all the human traders and all the towel, the planet and then leaves the big middle finger to anyone else.

21:01 [SPEAKER_01]: What's up? [SPEAKER_00]: go with it specifically though. [SPEAKER_00]: He went door to door killing them. [SPEAKER_00]: He wanted to have it recolonized and didn't want to harm the infrastructure of the planets. [SPEAKER_00]: So we could get new loyal imperial citizens specifically said that too.

21:20 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a great. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go door to door get my murder on so that we can get some real imperial citizens here because Dante is not if he talked about last week he does have a lot of morals but there's limits and one of them is turning your back on the imperium to join the town.

21:35 [SPEAKER_00]: So what do y'all have somebody he doesn't like? [SPEAKER_00]: And all, not even a little bit. [SPEAKER_01]: He knows that's like the elder. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so one, I think the only real times he's met the elder, it's always been pirate. [SPEAKER_00]: Course there fleets, doing shit that you shouldn't be doing.

21:54 [SPEAKER_00]: And well, [SPEAKER_00]: Dante took offense to that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: And he has been taking offense to that for the last 11 hundred years. [SPEAKER_01]: And this one's there is a route in three is the planet. [SPEAKER_01]: Same thing when he blocked our last week, held our pirate king.

[SPEAKER_01]: Although this is one of those ones that becomes kind of funny, [SPEAKER_01]: According to the lore, the amount of orcs killed by Dante is so many that the Imperium disputes it as an impossibility.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he effectively [SPEAKER_00]: hit him in the leg, hit him in his boot basically with his axe, put a tiny scratch on it, corn got real annoyed, and flung him through the warp, and he flew for eight days ripping his wings off in the process.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how you get even angry here, but he's a more mad love he is he's the he is the angriest blood therster in the galaxy because he's trying to show corn that he still is should be his favorite because he was corn's favorite up until then maybe sort of.

24:58 [SPEAKER_01]: So, 1975, there's a, in one of the Canadian sectors, a world called Lou Taurus, Epcelon, and a revolt breaks out there. [SPEAKER_01]: And by revolt, what I mean is all the guardsmen on the planet just don't kill each other. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what they said. [SPEAKER_01]: It's in like no reason.

25:15 [SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why this is because deep down further in the planet, a chaos gate had opened, and Scarbrand had come through it. [SPEAKER_01]: So just the presence of Scarbrand was fueling rage and violence all across the surface. [SPEAKER_00]: Which is super cool actually because in the game, they do a good transfer of this.

25:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: He has an aura that makes it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not as cool as it used to be because he used to mean wave it ever before. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone was playing attack. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone got plus attack. [SPEAKER_01]: Loyals and enemies.

26:00 [SPEAKER_01]: And [SPEAKER_01]: The thing about Scarbrand to be fair is he's not very sneaky, so it was not leaders or chaos gate there, but we also know who's by it and where and how to get to it, because it's a very loud and angry demon prince. [SPEAKER_00]: And he's also has to open a gate for corn in this way.

26:16 [SPEAKER_00]: You have to kill enough people to make it a stable gate, so it's not like you don't know what's happening. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of stuff's going down. [SPEAKER_01]: Who's a lot going down here, but the long story shortened down is Dante and his crews are just chewing through demons until they get to Scarbrand and Scarbrand and I do love this line, yells out a challenge to Dante.

26:37 [SPEAKER_01]: That screams so loudly, it's heard both from the material and the immaterial. [SPEAKER_01]: So there's an audience to this battle in Dante, ain't no bitch. [SPEAKER_01]: He grabs his boots, throws a few extra pumps into them, and he and Scarbren start, you got to juice those boots and mighty ass kicking, you got to put the full pumps on.

26:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the story is great, because in the story when they're blades striking to each other as Dante's pairing blows, [SPEAKER_01]: It actually causes so much force that some of the demons in the area blink out of reality, because there's just that much force coming into these blows. [SPEAKER_01]: Eventually though, the battle keeps going and scar brand makes a mistake.

27:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Dante leaps up and into the air then comes down ax first anime style. [SPEAKER_01]: He calls it. [SPEAKER_01]: That's like about the story for a second. [SPEAKER_01]: There's the reason I like the story's interesting is there's two ways you can interpret this story and I like these options.

27:43 [SPEAKER_01]: One is that it's a tale of exaggeration. [SPEAKER_01]: Then in reality, the blood angels fought, they ended up killing Scar brand with the concentrated fire. [SPEAKER_01]: They brought some tanks, I don't care, and they defeated Scar brand. [SPEAKER_01]: But the cult of personality that is Dante and the way legends grow, the story has shifted over time to a mortal man, [SPEAKER_00]: Took down a one of the key demon princes of Yeah, in the thing about it is when you're telling the tale and they've had a couple of this in the space with lores where you like Sure, I don't really care what the reality of the story is because for inspiration to get the troops moving [SPEAKER_00]: This is what makes people fight harder, fight against.

28:27 [SPEAKER_00]: You have to have some pretty motivational speeches to fight against actual demons. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you know those stories that we would tell people, yeah, those are all real and we fight them on kind of the regular. [SPEAKER_00]: So you gotta be pretty juiced up inside. [SPEAKER_00]: Somebody's gotta give you a pretty good halftime speech to continue to fight demons in the war.

28:46 [SPEAKER_01]: but there's another interpretation. [SPEAKER_01]: And the other interpretation is not that Dante is this powerful, but that Dante is the chosen precursor of sanguineus. [SPEAKER_01]: And so when he fought [SPEAKER_01]: Scarbrand, it was Dante physically fighting him, but Sengwinius had reached out in the power of Sengwinius as what was actually fighting Scarbrand, which would make sense because Sengwinius did beat the crap out of Kabanda.

[SPEAKER_01]: Is it that it's a tall tail and whatever, or are these tales of Dante's incredible power and [SPEAKER_01]: How is it Dante from afar? [SPEAKER_00]: But he is a vessel for sanguineus. [SPEAKER_00]: I do believe that in the writing hundred percent.

[SPEAKER_01]: So the world of teriyan, the night lords joined up with a chaos trader warband, which means it was a collection of gas basements, known as the brotherhood of darkness, and so I love that idea you're going to have it as soon as we are right about that, it's the brotherhood of darkness, it's so tough, it's even worse than British accent, we're one of a tent you just made it a British accent there, but I just went for a catch all.

30:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't tell if it was a British accent of the fact that Brad's having some breathing issues today, maybe just that's just the new accent of the day I'll say I'm about to have a different accent just because I can't breathe at all. [SPEAKER_01]: And the story I like about this, we don't get a lot of sub one paragraph by the way, in one book.

30:52 [SPEAKER_01]: It's just written that on this, the planet is now a paradise world. [SPEAKER_01]: So this is a world that was under assault by the nightlores and the brotherhood of darkness. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's now a paradise world. [SPEAKER_01]: And the middle of the paradise world is a massive marble statue of Dante.

31:09 [SPEAKER_01]: because they basically sent it in there. [SPEAKER_01]: Some of the happens, the world of Orana, this is a collection of case-based rings led by a demon prince, they descend onto a high world. [SPEAKER_01]: Dante and then [SPEAKER_01]: They arrive and discover prickly it's a trap. [SPEAKER_01]: As soon as they land on the planet, the whole sky goes dark and this warp storm severes there.

31:30 [SPEAKER_00]: This is wild, though, because they come down and it will, the trap is the entire hive basically gets engulfed in warp flame and all the buildings become a leaving [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Even start flying. [SPEAKER_01]: It's any. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll die there. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not knocking, but if you guys want good visual, it's one of those video games.

31:57 [SPEAKER_01]: The Resident Evil thing does this a little bit where it's a, if you're playing that video game, also, you realize the place you are actually doesn't look the way it's, you think it looks, you're actually are in hell. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I guess you. [SPEAKER_01]: So the main hive to Brad's point eating gulps and warp flame and when the flame extinguishes They realize that the it's not building the buildings now made up of flesh and bone that's been fused together and by the way Hordes of demons start rushing out of this thing and they're completely separate from everything up in orbit And even what's in orbit is just blind firing down into the planet and as the shells hit this the

32:38 [SPEAKER_00]: sick though, because Dante effectively sees that there's a psychic presence, like a beacon. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's pretty easy. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm assuming to go, hey, I'm getting terrible migraine and that's over there. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So he calls it another thing that just went to legends, much of storm Ravens, to basically punch a hole.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I only owned six of them from the time when there was no rule of three, but I did play Dante and six storm ravens and T.C. [SPEAKER_00]: that year. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a dumb list, but in this is another one of those super ultra heroic things Dante just grabs the sanguinary guard goes [SPEAKER_00]: I need a hole.

33:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to wreck it, give me a hole through the defenses. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to jump through and shit's going down. [SPEAKER_00]: And well, it does. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's literally having to be blast a hole into the cathedral where they realize this demon mortars. [SPEAKER_01]: And he shoots in there with a sanctuary guard.

33:34 [SPEAKER_01]: big battle goes traditional, you know, they get the upper hand, then they have the lower hand and they're winning. [SPEAKER_01]: The Dante's about to lose completely and then Dante just goes, how about no turns off and with his junk pack like blaring goes ax first into the demon lord piercing his heart with his ax.

33:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And this badge, the demon, back into the warp, causes all the lesser demons he'd write to explode into myths of blood. [SPEAKER_01]: And then they leave, and the planet gets exterminated because, yeah, at a certain point, just, there's a point where like, like, that won't be talked about a minute ago, where the nightlords were there.

34:13 [SPEAKER_01]: We can salvage this. [SPEAKER_01]: This one? [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Not so much. [SPEAKER_01]: No, this one. [SPEAKER_01]: And then, St. Louis came to his senses and decided, no, and then later, St. Louis beat the crap out of him on the walls. [SPEAKER_00]: So, flew him up over the walls of Tera for the palisatera, broke his spine.

35:05 [SPEAKER_00]: While talking, giving a game time speech to everybody and threw him down. [SPEAKER_00]: So, Capit is not a super blood angels fan. [SPEAKER_01]: The granite stayed a secret until M-41 to the most legions for the [SPEAKER_01]: And they're not, these are the things, but it's kind of, if we read first floor of Armageddon, that was actually one of the deals.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was at that point only Logan, if you were the chef to master's new about them. [SPEAKER_01]: After that, they more had to be told. [SPEAKER_01]: Still very early. [SPEAKER_01]: The great night, Parnasta cars, had read the rooms.

36:00 [SPEAKER_01]: And they knew Cabando was about to reemerge in the material. [SPEAKER_01]: And they needed to help the bladios. [SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't do this alone. [SPEAKER_01]: But there's a catch. [SPEAKER_01]: The grain ice didn't want the blade angels regular to know of their existence. [SPEAKER_01]: More importantly, they were concerned about them having any memories of fighting a demon prince like Kabanda.

36:22 [SPEAKER_01]: So they went to Dante and said, look, we need to have a deal. [SPEAKER_01]: We will fight with you side by side, and we can banish Kavanda back into the Himmaterium. [SPEAKER_01]: But afterwards, we have to men and black your entire legion. [SPEAKER_01]: And Dante goes, Yeah, man. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go for it.

36:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, if you have this technology, you could have just killed so many less people. [SPEAKER_00]: We continue. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're not going to have this weirdly done. [SPEAKER_01]: We could memory wipe everybody. [SPEAKER_01]: or just murder them all. [SPEAKER_01]: And apparently the memory wiping is like two or three steps more involved than a bold man.

[SPEAKER_01]: They banished Japan to back into the immatarium and no one outside of Dante has a memory of it. [SPEAKER_00]: But let's also go back a little bit because of the fact that we just covered it.

37:08 [SPEAKER_00]: We didn't get really into the wild, bad asterie that happened on Armageddon. [SPEAKER_00]: He's holding leg dropping all kinds of people there. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the reason I didn't want to cover it is because it's kind of a weird story. [SPEAKER_01]: Him and the blame are doing work all over Armageddon.

37:25 [SPEAKER_01]: But the thing is, there's two pieces of that story that don't really fully add up one. [SPEAKER_01]: He never fights gas. [SPEAKER_01]: And two, there's a ton of orcs left that Armageddon after he leaves. [SPEAKER_01]: So whereas some other spots he's gone to, he's singling and he wiped out the entire enemy.

37:40 [SPEAKER_01]: On Armageddon, he's been like, yeah, I was definitely paying the butt [SPEAKER_01]: gas left and then the rest of them wouldn't hit in the jungle. [SPEAKER_01]: And then I left. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's funny because what other things about that day that I do want to point out, story wise, and again, he's not the guy that everybody's seeing.

[SPEAKER_00]: For sure, he's been in the most gauge because he's the oldest, but just for pure frequency, he personally is in battle after battle after battle after battle. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we spent maybe 20 minutes there going through some of his achievements.

38:25 [SPEAKER_01]: That's less than a quarter of the stuff I'm going to go into. [SPEAKER_01]: It is nonstop what he's done. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But there had a lot of big battles too without even stories. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, where I want to get to in the cast those in the next bit. [SPEAKER_01]: So by the end of the 41st millennia, the ravages of time are starting to affect Dante.

38:45 [SPEAKER_01]: He is 1500 years old. [SPEAKER_01]: And that is old, it's just old. [SPEAKER_01]: And so it's cool for everyone around him, because we mentioned earlier, if you're a blood angel, you've joined the Blandles hearing stories of this great chapter master named Dante, and how cool he was. [SPEAKER_01]: And you get there, he's still the chapter master, and he's still doing badass stuff.

39:06 [SPEAKER_01]: So great for them. [SPEAKER_01]: But for Dante, it's a bit of a drag. [SPEAKER_01]: He is aging. [SPEAKER_01]: His skin is wrinkled. [SPEAKER_01]: He's covered in scars. [SPEAKER_01]: His hair is white at this point. [SPEAKER_01]: They talk about. [SPEAKER_01]: He's getting old. [SPEAKER_01]: And he also is kind of just depressed.

39:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Tens of thousands of blindes have died under his watch. [SPEAKER_01]: And he witnessed a lot of that. [SPEAKER_01]: He knew a lot of them. [SPEAKER_01]: Millions of civilians are dead. [SPEAKER_01]: Even though he can save, [SPEAKER_01]: can't save all of them. [SPEAKER_01]: And in addition to that, he's 1500 years old.

39:38 [SPEAKER_01]: He's like a vampire. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone, more literally than I wanted to be, actually. [SPEAKER_01]: But everyone he's ever known or bonded with is dead. [SPEAKER_01]: So his soul is tired, but he has to go on. [SPEAKER_01]: And the reason he has to go on is there's a prophecy within the blood angels, about a leader who saves them from extinction.

39:59 [SPEAKER_01]: And the idea is that one day a threat arises that's so massive that only the blindeals themselves can stop it. [SPEAKER_01]: The brainer of light. [SPEAKER_01]: And only this set of first-of-the-great leader can actually achieve this victory. [SPEAKER_01]: And so a lot of the scholars used to believe this was the tale of St. Gwynes.

40:16 [SPEAKER_01]: St. Gwynes existed to fight Horace, and because St. Gwynes died, that gave the Emperor the ability to kill Horace, which ended the Horace heresy. [SPEAKER_01]: In fact, they saved the galaxy to the set for a so-blutting angel. [SPEAKER_01]: Dante, though, started to realize that this story might not be about sanguineus, and unfortunately might be about him.

40:38 [SPEAKER_01]: And so that's one of the reasons why he doesn't step down because he's convinced that, and not even necessarily true, but it may be that he's going to have to step up and save the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's no chance that he's taking that chance, so. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's so crazy because of the fact that Tierenets have so much [SPEAKER_01]: lore in the game from the very early times they are technically the newest faction to the game air quotes there obviously they've been in the game for me us playing the game they've been there since the early 90s but as far as there are presence in the galaxy the tau and the votan have been in the galaxy interacting more a lot longer than the tiered it's have so there we go [SPEAKER_01]: Now, they're first contacted 7.45.

42:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It's the plan of this tyrant. [SPEAKER_01]: It's what they're called tyrannids because they're tyrant. [SPEAKER_01]: It's, that's what it's for. [SPEAKER_01]: This is with high fleet. [SPEAKER_00]: And so how you get to rent a veterans, and you get to be the coolest rule to. [SPEAKER_01]: That's really great.

42:18 [SPEAKER_01]: And now they're on legends that my metal ultramarines are somewhere in my house, so in a way. [SPEAKER_01]: The high fleet behemoth was the first one to come in. [SPEAKER_01]: It made its way to the Craig. [SPEAKER_01]: Calgar and company defeated them brutal casualties. [SPEAKER_01]: Then a hundred.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's a big deal for this one, so it's because this is a wildly different type of fleet.

[SPEAKER_01]: And outside of the walls, Dante and them are looking at the walls going, well, today was going pretty bad, looks like it's about to get worse.
