It has been a whirlwind few weeks for the art industry in Europe. First, Frieze London (news.artnet.com/market/frieze-london-masters-2…) and Frieze Masters alighted in Regent’s Park, and a bevy of satellite fairs (news.artnet.com/topic/frieze-week) opened all over the British capital. There were big-league openings, auctions (news.artnet.com/market/sothebys-contemporary-e…), and a great deal more.

Then the art crowd decamped for Paris for Art Basel, right after large-scale protests (news.artnet.com/art-world/art-basel-paris-prot…) in the city and around France gave way to looting and police clashes. Student protesters shuttered (news.artnet.com/art-world/paris-art-fairs-muse…) the Louvre for a day, but the fair went ahead (news.artnet.com/market/art-basel-paris-2026-op…) as planned, with some 200 exhibitors offering work at the Grand Palais. With another protest looming, the fair decided (news.artnet.com/market/art-basel-paris-2026-sa…) to cancel its weekend (news.artnet.com/market/art-basel-paris-art-fai…) run, closing on Friday evening.

To talk about it all, Andrew Russeth hopped on The Art Angle with Margaret Carrigan, our London-based News Editor, and Katya Kazakina, our Art Detective columnist, who is currently based in Rome.
