#437 - Kyle Thompson // John Witherspoon - The Wrath and the Remainder

We tell the story of John Witherspoon, the only active clergyman to sign the Declaration of Independence, and we trace how his faith in God’s providence held firm through war, loss, and real grief. We connect Psalm 76:10 to Genesis 50:20 to show why God’s sovereignty is not a slogan, but a lifeline when evil hits close to home.
• the Word of God as the sword of the Spirit for the fight
• Witherspoon’s argument for independence and why courage needs conviction
• Psalm 76:10 and the claim that human wrath is restrained by God
• the cost of preaching providence before you know the outcome
• Joseph’s clarity in Genesis 50:20 about evil intentions and God’s good intention
• trusting God in suffering that includes death, betrayal, loss, and prodigal children
