[SPEAKER_01]: Your hosts for today are my fellow Trek Actors Terry Ferrell, Armin Schimmerman, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Micell, Garrett Wong for the complete and exciting version of this podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Please check out patreon.com forward slash the Delta Flyers. [SPEAKER_01]: and sign up to become a patron today. [SPEAKER_01]: You won't regret it. [SPEAKER_01]: Do it now. [SPEAKER_01]: Do it now. [SPEAKER_01]: Do it now. [SPEAKER_02]: We dare you. [SPEAKER_02]: We dare you. [SPEAKER_02]: How are you both?
[SPEAKER_00]: Good. [SPEAKER_00]: We're fine. [SPEAKER_00]: We're fine. [SPEAKER_00]: We're about to take off for a minor trip and then head a little bit later on in the month. [SPEAKER_00]: We go off to across the palm to Europe. [SPEAKER_02]: I love to hear about your travel adventures, you know, thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're about to visit Amsterdam for the first time and visit the city in and surrounding areas and see the tulips. [SPEAKER_01]: See the tulips. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That sounds great. [SPEAKER_01]: Typically when people ask me, what are your favorite cities outside of the US?
[SPEAKER_01]: I say, there's three. [SPEAKER_01]: I say, um, Prague. [SPEAKER_01]: So, Prague, Czech Republic. [SPEAKER_01]: I say Reykjavik Iceland, and I always say Amsterdam, Netherlands, that is the one city I've been to more than any other city in Europe other than in Germany, probably so. [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
[SPEAKER_01]: More than London? [SPEAKER_00]: More than London? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Probably. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: London probably more now that I think it yet. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of London stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, but still you're going to have a great trip arm and you're going to just love it in the tulips. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, so beautiful. [SPEAKER_00]: We're looking forward to it. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll take a lot of pictures. [SPEAKER_01]: Perfect. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've never been to Amsterdam.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've been to the airport. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the airport. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you've been to skip all change planes in the airport. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a beautiful airport. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you remember that airport? [SPEAKER_01]: It was very well done. [SPEAKER_01]: The architecture, very modern.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think you can get a lot of stuff done there. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you, I think you can even, you know, great shopping, such a gorgeous canal city. [SPEAKER_01]: It's so amazing to be in like the Venice of Western Europe, I guess, you know, um, [SPEAKER_00]: I've already reserved a trip on the canals at night so we can see the lights have all perfect.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's beautiful. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, great. [SPEAKER_02]: Great idea. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, great to have fun. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've we've got some birthdays. [SPEAKER_01]: We did this week. [SPEAKER_01]: We do talk about on June 7th. [SPEAKER_01]: That is the day that we must celebrate James Amy happy birthday James.
[SPEAKER_01]: James, very happy birthday. [SPEAKER_02]: Happy birthday, James. [SPEAKER_02]: And James, you know what else? [SPEAKER_02]: Jesse Bailey shares your birthday on June 7th, so happy birthday to Jesse. [SPEAKER_01]: Jesse, congratulations. [SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday. [SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday, J.B. Next up, we have Gabriel Dominic Gierges.
[SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday, June 8th. [SPEAKER_01]: That's your day. [SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday, Gabriel. [SPEAKER_01]: Gabriel, happy returns. [SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday. [SPEAKER_02]: happy birthday Gabriel and on June 13th it is Cindy Woodford's birthday so happy happy birthday Cindy. [SPEAKER_00]: Cindy, a very happy, loud, happy birthday.
[SPEAKER_00]: Happy birthday Cindy! [SPEAKER_02]: Here we go with a limerick. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure about this limerick. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, I've been kind of cocky lately. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, feeling good. [SPEAKER_02]: Wait a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: You're feeling, I don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see. [SPEAKER_02]: You tell me. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I never read it. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even look at it. [SPEAKER_01]: I just because it's already in our little notes. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to just look away. [SPEAKER_01]: Go. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's my limerick for in the cards.
[SPEAKER_02]: Cisco's moping was getting quite old. [SPEAKER_02]: A baseball card. [SPEAKER_02]: More precious than gold. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake hunted with his heart, and Nog played it quite smart. [SPEAKER_02]: In the end, smiles for all they uphold. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, like that one, come on. [SPEAKER_00]: Lovely.
[SPEAKER_00]: And indeed, we don't need to do any more of a recap on this episode because Rocky hasn't absolutely to be an entire episode in those four or five lines. [SPEAKER_02]: I try not to do the plot. [SPEAKER_02]: I try not to plot. [SPEAKER_02]: You just draw some plot. [SPEAKER_01]: Robby, I just, that was the A and the B score.
[SPEAKER_01]: You just did everything. [SPEAKER_01]: You dropped the mind. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no. [SPEAKER_02]: It was all over the place for me, but it's OK. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll take it. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm going to thank you because this is the end [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for the recap, but it's guys and everybody.
[SPEAKER_01]: Bye. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Here is my Hiku for this episode in the cards. [SPEAKER_01]: Depression sets in. [SPEAKER_01]: Jake and Nog trade for Willie. [SPEAKER_01]: Cisco smiles at last very good again with it. [SPEAKER_01]: You got the whole plot right here. [SPEAKER_00]: Why still whole plot?
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you like taking the ugly trade for Willie? [SPEAKER_01]: I thought I'd do it. [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely. [SPEAKER_01]: That's my star stance about my starverse right there. [SPEAKER_01]: My star line right there. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Armand, what do you have for us? [SPEAKER_00]: In the cards, three words.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll start with in, in comes from Old English. [SPEAKER_00]: In Middle English, the word was shortened often to in. [SPEAKER_00]: So I apostrophe. [SPEAKER_00]: Old English in. [SPEAKER_00]: middle English and of course in moderned English it's in. [SPEAKER_00]: In ancient times, in is expressing also motion or direction from a point outside to one within limits.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was first used in 780 in the Oxford English dictionary in occupies nearly two pages of description and if anyone has never [SPEAKER_00]: going into the Oxford English dictionary, all the definitions are microscopically small. [SPEAKER_00]: So for a word to take up that much space in the dictionary, there's a lot of stuff to be said about the word I and with two letters in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: The second word I'm looking at is card. [SPEAKER_00]: It's an altered word from the French card. [SPEAKER_00]: The definition is one of a pack or set of small, oblong pieces of passport used in playing games of chance and skill. [SPEAKER_00]: It's combined first use, that is, meaning the first time was used either in English or in French was in 1400.
[SPEAKER_00]: The last word I'm looking at is the, [SPEAKER_00]: And the only thing I have to say about that is it is the most frequently used word in the English language. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I don't know that. [SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: I did look up the saying in the cards. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the saying is an English, an old English saying, but it comes from tarot cards.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the saying was, on the cards, not in the cards. [SPEAKER_02]: And still is in England. [SPEAKER_02]: So if you're British or European or whatever, on the cards is a familiar phrase, but in the cards is very, I think, American. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's about tarot cards. [SPEAKER_02]: It's about predicting the future.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's not about like a card game, which is what I thought it was about. [SPEAKER_02]: Like having good luck in a card game, but it's not. [SPEAKER_02]: It's about. [SPEAKER_02]: in the cards is predicted for the sense. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's in the cards is in the future. [SPEAKER_01]: Perfect sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wish I had none that. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for doing that. [SPEAKER_01]: What is a synonym, Robbie, for a saying like in the cards? [SPEAKER_01]: What am I trying to, it's in the side of my brain or the back of my brain? [SPEAKER_01]: That is. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: That's one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is it, is idiom fit to? [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Idiom is different. [SPEAKER_00]: Idiom is the way you put words together as opposed to a sang or a song. [SPEAKER_00]: But adage would be the other synonym for sure. [SPEAKER_01]: Adage old adage in the cards, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just thought that there's something else and that I cannot.
[SPEAKER_01]: find my brain to say, but I felt there was one other way of saying it. [SPEAKER_02]: It's just not only for you. [SPEAKER_02]: It's not a part for you to think of it. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's not your brain either. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not your brain. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not your brain. [SPEAKER_02]: It's not my brain.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, our Patreon submitted poetry winner. [SPEAKER_02]: This is rhyming couplets that are submitted by Amy T. Here we go with some poetry from our Patreon family. [SPEAKER_02]: Kaya King in the Hall of Sweet for a Power Cell. [SPEAKER_02]: Kuka Laka, Kling on Opera, and a speech will do well.
[SPEAKER_02]: With that, the baseball card is finally scored, and now our cells are no longer bored. [SPEAKER_00]: Very nice. [SPEAKER_00]: I like scored. [SPEAKER_00]: That's grand. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: I like Cooka Locker. [SPEAKER_02]: You got Cooka Locker. [SPEAKER_01]: You got Cooka Locker in there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good job, baby. [SPEAKER_01]: All right, story by Truly Barclark and Scott Neal, teleplay by Ronald D. Moore, directed by Michael Dorn. [SPEAKER_01]: This is his... [SPEAKER_01]: For an effort. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Wow. [SPEAKER_01]: Very first time. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought he directed on TNG and I'm incorrect on that.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, he is this was his first. [SPEAKER_01]: This is his first time. [SPEAKER_02]: Great job for first time. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Correcting. [SPEAKER_00]: Very good. [SPEAKER_00]: Very good job. [SPEAKER_00]: I followed. [SPEAKER_00]: He's a hard worker. [SPEAKER_00]: He's a hard worker.
[SPEAKER_00]: And and he has directed quite a bit since. [SPEAKER_01]: Nice. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay for him. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you would know that you were on set with them. [SPEAKER_01]: So during this episode. [SPEAKER_01]: Not just on set. [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, he just finished directing a movie.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, nice. [SPEAKER_00]: That you're in a film. [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_00]: Shot in England. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, nice. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's great. [SPEAKER_00]: Good for him. [SPEAKER_00]: A script that he wrote is starred in and directed. [SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: I heard about that project that Michael was doing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm excited to hear more about it as well. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's fictional or kind of, um, fictional. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It's it's about Michael's passion, which is aviation. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, perfect. [SPEAKER_00]: And Marina is in it as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good for him. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for him. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, this directing job, I thought was absolutely solid. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, guest stars, uh, Jeffrey Combs, as we're you. [SPEAKER_01]: Our friend Brian Markinson, he was so different in this role, compared to Durst, what he did with us on Voyager.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I didn't even know it. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, got that, that guy looks a lot like Brian. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not so much fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's not funny. [SPEAKER_01]: Because his face, he just did different things. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, everything with his mask was different.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought, uh, he wasn't entirely sure if it was him right. [SPEAKER_00]: I have to say this, just as terrible for me to say, but he reminded me of a young arm and shimmering thing is what? [SPEAKER_00]: I thought, well, that's just like looking at myself and my youth. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my goodness.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, not just a little look, but his approach to acting was very similar to the way I approach it. [SPEAKER_00]: I used to approach acting. [SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: Brian is a good friend of mine. [SPEAKER_02]: In fact, I was just texting with him last week. [SPEAKER_02]: He just finished doing a play.
[SPEAKER_02]: uh... called Franklin land about Benjamin Franklin where he plays Benjamin Franklin I love it and uh... he does remind me a lot of you arman in terms of the kind of uh... acting just his approach to acting he went to yeah he's an NYU grad but he was in the archive for years and uh... and does he do a lot of theater i got the feeling that he did [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he teaches acting as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Aaron Eisenberg is non-Jace Masterson as Lida. [SPEAKER_01]: And of course, a special guest star would be Louise Fletcher back again as Kai Win. [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's funny that we had Lida in this episode, but no wrong. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have to validate it that Romsnors so badly that Lida couldn't take it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So she said you got to sleep in your own quarters. [SPEAKER_02]: Because they're waiting until the wedding. [SPEAKER_02]: They're waiting until the... Oh, I thought they were already hitched. [SPEAKER_02]: They're not hitched. [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, how to. [SPEAKER_00]: I think they are here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't get strawberry. [SPEAKER_02]: They're married. [SPEAKER_02]: They got engaged. [SPEAKER_02]: We saw that, but have we see something? [SPEAKER_01]: No, but I think the assumption is they got them that it happened and again, it's odd, but you called it right. [SPEAKER_01]: It's odd that he's not in this episode at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's odd he's not in this episode. [SPEAKER_01]: a little bit of trivia here. [SPEAKER_01]: So this episode was conceived as a bottle show, as Ronald D. Moore explains, we had a very simple premise for show, Jake and Ng chase a card around the station trying to give it to Cisco. [SPEAKER_01]: That's really just where we started.
[SPEAKER_01]: We figured we could do the show right before the season finale and it would be fun and funny and contained and cheap. [SPEAKER_01]: So that was this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's why Ram is in in it. [SPEAKER_01]: She, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she
[SPEAKER_01]: Renee Eschevaria pointed out that the reason that wooden work was because Geiger is not supposed to be a character to be taken seriously, but if he's trying to get back his wife, the audience is going to want him to succeed. [SPEAKER_01]: Bear then propose that Geiger should be trying to achieve something that initially sounds very interesting and plausible, but quickly begins to sound crazy.
[SPEAKER_01]: It did. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I did. [SPEAKER_02]: I thought Brian. [SPEAKER_02]: played that you thought he had real gravitas and stakes and then when she started to hear his theories you can go oh this guy's nuts [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, well, I'll be perfectly honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think that it was that nuts, even fun to see money into in depth. [SPEAKER_01]: I could work actually. [SPEAKER_00]: This is science fiction. [SPEAKER_00]: That it worked. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So it didn't blow me up. [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't. [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't a guest by it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Ronald DeMore commented quote, basically, we reverse the normal structure in this show so that the A story is the comedy and the B story is serious. [SPEAKER_01]: And of course, we're talking about the whole Kai win, the Dominion. [SPEAKER_01]: The treaty possibly armistice whether they're going to sign some, you know, non-aggression pact.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a fun show. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought it was fun. [SPEAKER_01]: Another bit of trivia. [SPEAKER_01]: Terry Ferrell. [SPEAKER_01]: Does not appear in this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: Crazy. [SPEAKER_02]: Shocking. [SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's got an episode. [SPEAKER_02]: You've had one or two arm in that you have a bit of a bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm surprised you gave us the list of the episodes where people don't appear. [SPEAKER_00]: I was surprised I had that many where I didn't appear. [SPEAKER_00]: Interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: I always thought maybe it was one, but obviously I was wrong, I guess I was busy doing other things.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I used to do when I wasn't used. [SPEAKER_00]: There was always an extra head and the makeup trailer of one of my old heads. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would take the head, I would go to the second AD and said, and I eventually would be used that day. [SPEAKER_00]: But if I was called in hours before, I would put the head on the second AD and say, here, you wear this until I'm called until I'm called good for you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's funny because if I'm being honest, [SPEAKER_02]: has an actor I would get really frustrated as a producer and I'm not saying this is a good attitude but often things change during the day and I have found myself saying to actor sometimes you're getting paid for the whole day.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're not paying you by the hour. [SPEAKER_02]: We paid you for the whole day so I'm sorry we didn't expect this or this or this but we've got to get make the day. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's funny how my [SPEAKER_02]: I know, as I was so, you know, righteous or defensive when I was an actor, but now as on the other side, I see all the variables, but I do try to communicate.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the difference that I think because I was an actor. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I do want to communicate and say, hey, here's where we're at. [SPEAKER_02]: We expected to be here. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm really sorry that you're waiting. [SPEAKER_02]: Here's the new estimate of where we think we're going to be.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've experienced it from the actor side. [SPEAKER_02]: So now you can talk to them about it. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's true. [SPEAKER_01]: On Voyager, and I'm sure the same on DS9 for Armand, we had the two first 80s that would go back and forth, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So it was Jerry Fleck and Adele.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry was a master. [SPEAKER_01]: Like when he called you in, if it was will notify at one o'clock, he'll call you at one. [SPEAKER_01]: He'd tell you exactly to it within ten minutes of, I mean, he was so good with timing. [SPEAKER_00]: Did you ever work with Jerry Fleck? [SPEAKER_00]: No, I know he is.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't work with him. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, not that I remember anyway. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: We only had one eight first day day. [SPEAKER_00]: We had several first day days, but we didn't use them in tandem. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: Until one quit and then was replaced by the next.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was always just one day day. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but did you have Lou? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Lou Rice and on rare occasions when Lou was sick or unavailable, they would bump the second day day up to the first day. [SPEAKER_01]: And Lou, Lou was the 80 all the way to the end to the final episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: I believe so. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Lou's great. [SPEAKER_02]: I work with Lou on different shows a few quite a few times. [SPEAKER_02]: He's awesome. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: So this episode starts off in Cisco's quarters. [SPEAKER_02]: A very somber group. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
[SPEAKER_02]: What they're bummed out. [SPEAKER_02]: uh... basically everybody's talking about you know how they're worried about this war starting the dominion war thing uh... naga is moving around my did like when he tries to he reaches for a ball of scotch my ex-gives in the stank eyes like no sorry and i'm not sure whether he was reaching for a drink for himself or clearly when uh... what i thought was he wanted to pour [SPEAKER_00]: That's what I thought it was, too.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they get the stink eye. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: At least there was movement, at least the dog was moving around the table everybody else was sitting there. [SPEAKER_00]: Just sitting in this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of sitting in this. [SPEAKER_00]: There is a lot of sitting.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's especially compared to the last episode, which we talked about that just had movement constantly, and such a sort of very aggressive storytelling in terms of the blocking, the energy, the tone, all of that. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it has to start this way, though, because everyone's super bummed out and just their their energy is and even Odo gives that status support.
[SPEAKER_01]: He says he says that the percent the percentage of thefts on the station of medical supplies, food rations has jumped 75 percent. [SPEAKER_01]: That's huge. [SPEAKER_01]: Last time that Odo had seen such an increase in thefts was right before the Kardashians were forced to leave the station to abandon the station.
[SPEAKER_01]: So now it just sets the tone. [SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's very worried. [SPEAKER_02]: People have already laughed. [SPEAKER_02]: A Brian says, you know, thanks for dinner. [SPEAKER_02]: They're going to turn in. [SPEAKER_02]: Cisco says, good night, everyone. [SPEAKER_02]: What are my favorite things in this whole scene is you finally reveal war.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's literally standing up by the wall with his notes up to his, like, artifact, this piece of art on the wall. [SPEAKER_00]: It was just the strangest. [SPEAKER_00]: Use the director of the episode. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Is it possible? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't remember the shot and well enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: But is it possible that he excused everybody and just did a single on himself? [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I think he did. [SPEAKER_02]: I think he isolated himself on purpose on purpose, direct the rest of the scene and then he could just shoot a single of himself. [SPEAKER_02]: But he literally has noticed against this piece of art and Cisco's like Mr. Worf you've been parole turns he's like, oh, thank you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_02]: Good night. [SPEAKER_02]: It was just very funny to me. [SPEAKER_01]: What's even fun here to me is that after watching this episode, I don't even remember him in the first scene. [SPEAKER_01]: So even that little bendman. [SPEAKER_01]: That's how that's how miniscule he made his initial his first shot.
[SPEAKER_01]: His first scene for this episode. [SPEAKER_01]: He just said, I'm not even going to be part of this. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be and then you laughing at that. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm laughing the fact I don't even remember him in this scene. [SPEAKER_02]: he was it was like he was trying to hide behind this this culture on the wall and he was just like frozen like my dog would do like if my dog is in trouble your dog just sort of sits staring at the wall and won't look at you that was worth and if that's just not in the room he has no one to talk to [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, buddy, Robby, because my favorite part of the whole scene.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes, anyway. [SPEAKER_00]: So they're dismissed. [SPEAKER_00]: We do hear a crew woman. [SPEAKER_00]: Who is that? [SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was Nena. [SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was Kira. [SPEAKER_00]: I know we'd just seen her. [SPEAKER_00]: But, but... [SPEAKER_00]: you know, you don't have to be in a sound like it did sound like it did sound like not to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the line we just received a message from Bay Jones. [SPEAKER_01]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_01]: She would say sir to. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, absolutely. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been with the Nostand and maybe it was Robin. [SPEAKER_02]: Usually, they would have loop group.
[SPEAKER_02]: So loop group does any kind of randomness. [SPEAKER_01]: Hub a hub of stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: And every now and then they would throw a line like this to someone in loop group. [SPEAKER_02]: They might have two or three people recorded and then when they go to the mix. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, take the best one doesn't make sense for it to be enough, but that's who I thought I heard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: Robbie random question. [SPEAKER_01]: Does loop group get residual payments at all? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: But they're part of a group. [SPEAKER_00]: So they separate that evenly amongst the the number of players that were there.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to make money in this business, yes, be part of a loop group. [SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: We're in quirks. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake and not are drinking [SPEAKER_02]: it looks like little like milk bottles like miniature milk bottles, but it had a label on it like it was the brand of root beer.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I have to tell you for not to be drinking out of a bottle like that is difficult because it's in the teens. [SPEAKER_01]: How old is Jake's supposed to be at this point? [SPEAKER_01]: Is he 17? [SPEAKER_01]: 18? [SPEAKER_01]: What does he date now? [SPEAKER_01]: Is he of legal age drink alcohol?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know. [SPEAKER_00]: I would say that they're drinking sodas at the bar. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's definitely wrote beer. [SPEAKER_00]: At least for now, it's definitely wrote beer. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, cork swings by, mentions the auction. [SPEAKER_02]: He hands Naga pad with a list of what's at the auction on it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Cork says it's really amazing stuff. [SPEAKER_02]: Naga looks at it says it's junk. [SPEAKER_02]: Starts to read the lists and mentions a baseball card. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake freaks out. [SPEAKER_01]: Not just any old card, but a mid-conditioned 1951. [SPEAKER_00]: Not in the original rapping or gum.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, it's up on a stand. [SPEAKER_00]: It's mounted on a stand, at least in turn the auction anyway. [SPEAKER_02]: Well Jake decides he wants to get it for his dad. [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that'll cheer him up. [SPEAKER_02]: I like his line at the end. [SPEAKER_02]: He's like, how hard can it be?
[SPEAKER_02]: That's always the sign. [SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be really hard. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like coughing. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the coughing. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, all right. [SPEAKER_02]: If you say, how hard can it be? [SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be really hard. [SPEAKER_01]: There you go. [SPEAKER_01]: We have indicators.
[SPEAKER_02]: These are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes, these are tropes
[SPEAKER_02]: It means we don't need money. [SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't know how to explain it. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, because it doesn't make sense. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: And the writers knew that. [SPEAKER_00]: And so it's a little in joke, I think, going, yeah, this is what Star Trek says, but it doesn't make sense to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and in fact, that line we worked to better ourselves in the rest of humanity was a line that the writer actually used for Picard in a TNG movie. [SPEAKER_01]: So he was making fun of it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he was making fun of himself. [SPEAKER_01]: by putting that line in there. [SPEAKER_01]: So it was something within another with wrapped within another.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's another whole layer going on here that's kind of an Easter egg there. [SPEAKER_00]: So for them, I really love that moment. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, when the initial scene that's set up, they're facing each other. [SPEAKER_01]: But at some point, Jake gets up, turns away and walks towards camera and does very kind of theatrical action.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sitting a watching a theater play right there. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's very much the monologue being delivered or lines being delivered out towards the audience towards us and I kept thinking this is very theatrical. [SPEAKER_00]: It's called an aside when an actor walks away goes down stage and talks to the audience.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: It's called an aside. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's the side. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's talking to not, but he's looking right in the cameras. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but you don't typically employ a size in to I don't think so. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's it's so that was the only thing that that kind of pulled me out of my, oh, that's kind of theater, like, and I don't really like to see that to be perfectly honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to keep them engaged, sort of going away. [SPEAKER_00]: I agree with that 100% care. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: it did take me out as well. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: So the only time, everything else, I love it. [SPEAKER_01]: Michael Dorn, good job, but this is the only time I said, okay, this blocking does not work for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's all. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I noticed it. [SPEAKER_02]: I felt like it was kind of a cue to me that, oh, this is going to be broad. [SPEAKER_02]: We're going broad. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Like this is not how [SPEAKER_02]: Natural people would behave. [SPEAKER_02]: This is a broad choice.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we're going to go for broad comedy in this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: That's what I Okay, I thought it was sort of yeah, we're crossing a line into something that's not natural, but that is what this episode's going to be so okay It didn't bother you as much as it did arm it in myself then not really I mean I was aware of it, but [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it lived within the tropes and got the rest of the tropes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: That makes sense. [SPEAKER_02]: We go to Siska's office next, um, Kai win arrives. [SPEAKER_02]: Isn't she phenomenal? [SPEAKER_02]: She's great. [SPEAKER_02]: So good. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember that little shiny reflective buckle thing in her in her midsection right down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is that always there? [SPEAKER_01]: I kept staring at it because I could, I could see the reflection of the, of the lights that were lighting her up right inside that little butt belt buckle thing. [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't recall seeing that before, but [SPEAKER_01]: maybe she got an upgrade.
[SPEAKER_02]: She's like the Pope now or something. [SPEAKER_02]: She's the Pope. [SPEAKER_02]: She's the Pope. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, as the Pope, she says to here, you may go no child. [SPEAKER_02]: Here it is, not like that. [SPEAKER_02]: Did you notice? [SPEAKER_02]: Really? [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, but you can see when Carol walks in before she is even addressed by the guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she's not happy to be with the guy. [SPEAKER_00]: No, and Norris just go happy to be with the guy either. [SPEAKER_00]: I love the fact that Louise subtly clocks all that and just moves on. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, moves on. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: No, Kira Naris is definitely not happy, but Nena Visitor is because this is a great residual scene for her because she can come and say that wasn't the only scene.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, she was on the first scene. [SPEAKER_00]: No, she was in the first scene. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, they go for a walk and two vettics. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, two vettics. [SPEAKER_02]: Security guys behind them. [SPEAKER_02]: It looks like bodyguards or something. [SPEAKER_01]: They look nice.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you can fight that well with the purple robes on their vettics. [SPEAKER_00]: They won't fight. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, they're just accompanying her. [SPEAKER_00]: They're not there for protection and security, even. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that they're just part of her on to run.
[SPEAKER_00]: Her posse. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, vettics always need a posse. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, every Pope has a secretary. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's correct. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's what they're doing. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, they go for a walk.
[SPEAKER_02]: When says, you know, all these people are leaving. [SPEAKER_02]: She's never seen so many people leaving the station. [SPEAKER_02]: And he must feel like he's being abandoned. [SPEAKER_02]: And she admits that she's here to meet a representative of from the Dominion. [SPEAKER_02]: They talk about that.
[SPEAKER_02]: They talk about how they're both worried about missteps with this whole Dominion. [SPEAKER_02]: thing and Cisco is in agreement with her about her feelings, her concerns. [SPEAKER_02]: She says one misstep could result in the destruction of our world. [SPEAKER_02]: Cisco says, yeah, for once I'm in a complete agreement with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't like that line. [SPEAKER_00]: You didn't like, I didn't like the line for once I'm in agreement with you. [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's much more subtle than to admit that he's had disagreements with her before. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we know that. [SPEAKER_00]: I think she knows that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he needed to say that. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like saying, Robbie, I've always hated you. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm getting along with you now for today, but in the past I've always hated you. [SPEAKER_00]: You wouldn't say that. [SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't say that. [SPEAKER_01]: You wouldn't say that.
[SPEAKER_00]: You wouldn't say that. [SPEAKER_00]: It's certainly just someone that you have a very important relationship with. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look at who these two people are. [SPEAKER_00]: In the sense that she is the Pope, and he is the prophet, [SPEAKER_00]: And they are the top wrong of the Bidjoan religion.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: So, Arman, if you just delete four and once, then it's perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: If he just says, I am in complete agreement with you, you have my work. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: And then it's done. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's a perfect interchange, and I've done that with the Bidjoan.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: That makes sense. [SPEAKER_01]: Good catch though. [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even think about that. [SPEAKER_01]: But what is refreshing is that these two are now [SPEAKER_01]: kind of almost on the same page in a way. [SPEAKER_02]: What was the episode where he kind of went crazy about the old or during settlement, whatever?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the Bajoran temple or something. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he was having visions and everything. [SPEAKER_02]: She really kind of bought all in with him. [SPEAKER_02]: I thought on that. [SPEAKER_02]: At that point? [SPEAKER_02]: I thought so. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like they're in a different place now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: She really. [SPEAKER_00]: But they really are the two. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, yes, and so it's right for them to have an understanding. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, they may not like each other, but they recognize each other's worth. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's true. [SPEAKER_01]: If you consider her the Pope, then he is [SPEAKER_01]: He would probably the prophet or the chosen one.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're right, the chosen one. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she calls him. [SPEAKER_00]: She, they call each other, you know, emissaries. [SPEAKER_00]: She says she never calls him Cisco. [SPEAKER_00]: No, she calls him the emissaries. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she gives him the respect of who he is. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think he calls her Kai, but he doesn't call her anything else.
[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't say, yes, he does. [SPEAKER_00]: He calls her your eminence. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yes, that's right. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I've heard him say that. [SPEAKER_02]: So there was a respect there. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, there is. [SPEAKER_00]: Of what their situations are. [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you're right. [SPEAKER_00]: The two top rungs in the Bajoran religion. [SPEAKER_00]: She says, walk with the prophets. [SPEAKER_00]: Which he does, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: I love the fact that she says, walk with the prophets. [SPEAKER_00]: Because he does. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he's one of the few people we've had.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's done that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: That literally does, that literally does walk. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So next scene where in corks, the auction is beginning, corks up there. [SPEAKER_01]: And we have all the different items that are being bid on.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I love how it's sort of, there's one bar, one bar three strips. [SPEAKER_01]: It's all, it's a very different sort of bidding system that we're used to because we don't have Latin them. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's still a really cool scene. [SPEAKER_01]: And all the commission is going to, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, is it really not all of it not all and there's just like commission you guys have to give Quark a little leave Five he says all the proceeds from this auction go to the bejorn a war orphans fun minus a modest Commission, but the definition of modest is Convary though It can add some people's it's 10% other people modest just 25% so you know or 30% [SPEAKER_01]: So we do believe that, yes, the orphans are getting money minus the modest commission.
[SPEAKER_01]: The prize is the baseball card. [SPEAKER_01]: Once that lot comes up and it's not just a baseball card. [SPEAKER_01]: It is a bejorn mandala, 20th century, 23rd century, Ion trans stator, the woolly maze baseball card. [SPEAKER_01]: So there's multiple items. [SPEAKER_01]: Like when they have those reality shows where they stand outside of like, you know, a place where you store stuff like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, storage. [SPEAKER_01]: building then people have basically let they haven't paid the bill. [SPEAKER_01]: They have to auction it off. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like somebody's stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: But during the auction, you do notice there is a bejorn that is bidding because I think they're trying to bid on the mandala because they want that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then the other bidder happens to be our good friend Brian Markinson, who we don't know who the heck he is. [SPEAKER_00]: And one of the things that they're bidding on, [SPEAKER_00]: is a small replica of the stasis chamber that we see later on in the apartment. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a little one, there's a little one, they put on the table right before the card.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm thinking maybe it's Geiger's trunk, and that's why he wants it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's because he's got stuff in it. [SPEAKER_00]: That little model might be indicative of why he wants it. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my goodness, you're saying the trunk belonged to him to begin with. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying it's a possibility because I see a little, if you go back and look at it, there's a little, we see the big stasis chamber there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like the big egg, the big stasis egg. [SPEAKER_00]: But if you look at one of the things they put on the table is a small replica of that. [SPEAKER_00]: I did not notice that. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, that would make total sense because the Vedic is bidding on the mandala, which they think later on is why Kai Win is mad at them, which they're watching.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it would make sense why Geiger really, he doesn't want the baseball card. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, but that other thing. [SPEAKER_02]: So for whatever it is, he does want that other thing. [SPEAKER_00]: And it may be if it's his trunk, he wants all of it. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's his mentors trunk, because doesn't he talk about the other ones?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, his work. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But I thought it was the transdator. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was the ion transdator that he wanted. [SPEAKER_00]: Good beat. [SPEAKER_00]: And maybe that's in his trunk. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he got confiscated. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he didn't paste, you know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, whatever it is, he really wanted it because he outbits everybody as they're sitting there, you know, going going back and forth 1.3 1.4 2 3, he jumps to 10 10 bars, which is way more than what Nog has in his pocket, he can only bid five that's it. [SPEAKER_01]: So they lose, they lose out to the mysterious person who gets up [SPEAKER_01]: and leaves.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's how auction's work. [SPEAKER_02]: You don't take the stuff right away. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: You come back later on. [SPEAKER_02]: But did you notice the last item? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my God. [SPEAKER_01]: Or the the the the painting on the velvet and Maddoer.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Maddoer. [SPEAKER_01]: The Maddoer. [SPEAKER_01]: I love that. [SPEAKER_00]: And you see who got that. [SPEAKER_00]: Do you know who got that? [SPEAKER_00]: More. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my God. [SPEAKER_00]: God. [SPEAKER_00]: It was the best. [SPEAKER_02]: And I love that you say it was inspiration for the some of my Martian colony flag.
[SPEAKER_02]: The madador, the velvet painting of a madador and a bull. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God. [SPEAKER_01]: That made me laugh so hard. [SPEAKER_02]: That was the best. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're back in Jake and Knox quarters and Jake is so bummed out. [SPEAKER_01]: They've he's lost the auction.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is like this is his prize. [SPEAKER_01]: He felt yeah 100% that he was going to get this thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Naga's trying to cheer him back up. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: We could get him a new pair of shoes and Jake's like shoes. [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, that's not good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jake starts talking about how it was kismit. [SPEAKER_01]: It was fate. [SPEAKER_01]: He was supposed to have that card. [SPEAKER_01]: So, Nog is like, okay, well, they both come up with this plan. [SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna try to get the card somehow. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's where we lead over into the prop nut.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Jake's really from the heart here. [SPEAKER_02]: He's like, you know, my dad's always been there for me. [SPEAKER_02]: I want to be there for him. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: He needs me. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, please, Nog, help me get this card. [SPEAKER_02]: Nog is moved by this sincerity.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they're good friends. [SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that was a nice moment. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, in the middle of the comedic banter about Kizmet, Kizwat, what do you know, there was a lot of little jokes in there, but at the heart of it, there was real stakes and emotion, which I thought was nice.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we go back to the promenade, Jake and Nog. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, are going to ask they want to ask Geiger to make a deal. [SPEAKER_01]: This is where we also see more walking out with the painting developed. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, more like the bullfactor, but Geiger says it's very paranoid here.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's not there. [SPEAKER_02]: He's making a deal and, uh, he does say I haven't broken any laws except perhaps the laws of nature, which is very ominous and what does he accuse them of being, uh, I don't have the quote in front of me, but it's an answer about [SPEAKER_01]: times in the episode, something of orthodoxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Solususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususususus [SPEAKER_02]: Docs outside, which I thought was a cool angle.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I made a note of it. [SPEAKER_02]: Very cool ship shot. [SPEAKER_01]: Do you see the Voyager looking like ship that was in the background? [SPEAKER_01]: I did. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, it's the same front, but they added some extra, like, I don't know, something extra missiles or something else.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: It was a cool space shot. [SPEAKER_02]: It was very home. [SPEAKER_02]: But it basically sets up that way. [SPEAKER_02]: You and his arrive, we cut inside way and comes in. [SPEAKER_02]: Literally the first words out of his mouth, I laughed. [SPEAKER_02]: He just makes me laugh.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a love way. [SPEAKER_01]: His first line, when he says, Captain Cisco, I can't tell you how happy I am to see you again. [SPEAKER_01]: I thought that Jeffrey Brudden, also an additional energy of Captain Cisco, I can't tell you how happy I am to be a recurring character now. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, probably.
[SPEAKER_01]: I felt it was like it's great. [SPEAKER_00]: This is Jeff. [SPEAKER_00]: If I had this right third character on deep space. [SPEAKER_01]: Correct. [SPEAKER_00]: He was a customer and quarks. [SPEAKER_00]: He wanted to have a house we programmed with no gear with Keira and the Reese. [SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: The really creepy alien. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So creepy alien, [SPEAKER_01]: one of his most popular ones, I feel. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm people loved him from the first time he showed us. [SPEAKER_01]: He's very funny. [SPEAKER_02]: So funny. [SPEAKER_02]: He made me laugh, as soon as he walked in, and the dynamic between him and Cisco, like, you know, Cisco going, I wish I could say the same, you know?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so happy to see you. [SPEAKER_00]: I wish I could say the same. [SPEAKER_02]: You just made me feel so comfortable and Cisco's like, before you twist that into a compliment. [SPEAKER_02]: Just very funny. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree. [SPEAKER_02]: He tries to term Cisco, but Cisco's not interested, and then they follow Cisco, and then we cut to the repliment and before we cut to the repliment.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Jeffrey, they catch Jeffrey doing something. [SPEAKER_00]: That is the core to Jeffrey's performance. [SPEAKER_00]: And as he leaves, he's got his fingers going like that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I noticed that, and I thought, oh, yes, that sensation makes you feel very pretty. [SPEAKER_00]: And I thought that's what tells Jeff how to do this character.
[SPEAKER_00]: It informs his character. [SPEAKER_00]: And I thought that's the court to weigh you right there. [SPEAKER_00]: And in fact, years later, he played a board, he explained to her. [SPEAKER_00]: you know how to play a board. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's funny. [SPEAKER_00]: And Prishina is just part of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Makes sense. [SPEAKER_02]: It's funny how as an actor you can find, uh, you can work internally, you know, inside to outside or you can work outside to inside. [SPEAKER_02]: We go to the replomat. [SPEAKER_02]: Nog says, okay, uh, he wants to see us. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go make a deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to meet in 10 minutes. [SPEAKER_02]: So they head out. [SPEAKER_02]: They're excited in the corridor. [SPEAKER_02]: Nog says, let me handle this, let a professional handle this, [SPEAKER_02]: And it's filled with all of the, it's like a laboratory in his court. [SPEAKER_02]: I've never seen anything like it.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a pod, there's lights on the walls. [SPEAKER_02]: How do you get it there? [SPEAKER_02]: How did he get all the stuff in his bedroom in his dormitory? [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: Beamed it there. [SPEAKER_02]: He went to a lot of auction beam. [SPEAKER_02]: You can be him at there, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Can't you probably could? [SPEAKER_02]: Or you can go to auctions and start collecting old junk. [SPEAKER_02]: Fine. [SPEAKER_02]: Basically, my first note is he's a fanatic. [SPEAKER_02]: He's willing to make a trade. [SPEAKER_02]: He's checked in on anything else where they are. [SPEAKER_02]: So he thinks that they can get access to things that he can't get his hands on.
[SPEAKER_02]: Nagask, what are you going to do with them? [SPEAKER_02]: He's talking like a cult member to me, working for the soulless minions of Orthodoxy that have pounded his work and plagued his existence. [SPEAKER_02]: They basically say, what are you going to do with all this? [SPEAKER_02]: And he says, well, let me ask you a simple question.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to die? [SPEAKER_02]: And I thought, oh, that's going to be a drama for a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: And they say, no, not really. [SPEAKER_02]: And then he goes into, [SPEAKER_02]: his whole study of death and dying, and that it's the cells of their bodies that get bored. [SPEAKER_02]: At some point, they just metabolize, divide, metabolize.
[SPEAKER_02]: When you get bored, he says, so the cells just say, that's it, we're bored, and that's why you die. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's why you're bored, too, yes. [SPEAKER_02]: And Nog's response is, [SPEAKER_02]: I never thought about it that way, which made me laugh. [SPEAKER_01]: A little quick bit of trivia.
[SPEAKER_01]: The computer system that Dr. Geiger uses in this episode appears to be the same system. [SPEAKER_01]: We see on the USS Xelsier and the USS Enterprise A in Star Trek 6, the under-scovered country. [SPEAKER_01]: So, we're used to prop sets. [SPEAKER_01]: No, interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's my problem with this, in the problem arises because of what Garrett Red at the very beginning of our talk today.
[SPEAKER_00]: was that it's what Ira wanted was for the speech to actually make sense until eventually it doesn't. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what you told us Garrett. [SPEAKER_00]: And I thought that's not accomplished here because both the actor and the director set up him being odd, very odd from the very beginning before he opened his mouth and him not talking to them directly, but working on his computer, he seems very odd.
[SPEAKER_00]: And therefore we assume anything that comes out of his mouth is going to be odd. [SPEAKER_00]: I would have preferred it if we were me doing it to make him human more humane, perhaps. [SPEAKER_00]: And then as he talked, Jake and I are going, this is crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: But at first, going, okay, and so that makes sense for not to say, I never thought of it that way.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then as he goes on, his guy goes on, it becomes obvious, this guy's crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: instead of nuts knowing that he's crazy from the very top. [SPEAKER_02]: I actually was along for the ride until he said, I've nearly completed my work on the cellular regeneration and entertainment.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was that word alone that I was I'm with Robbie. [SPEAKER_01]: I bought it into it until he said entertain like you're entertaining the cells. [SPEAKER_01]: Like they're going to a play or the failure or whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that was my quibble.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny. [SPEAKER_00]: And indeed, that's where I think that was their intention. [SPEAKER_02]: They wanted this to be a silly story. [SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted him to be more serious at the beginning. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So there's an arc to it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So that makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's more of a payoff for you as well. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I get it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Makes sense. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, a nice long scene, Jake and Nog kind of sidebar. [SPEAKER_02]: They think he's crazy, but Jake says we've got to help him. [SPEAKER_02]: We got to get this card.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they agreed to do it. [SPEAKER_02]: They go to shake his hand and he doesn't want to shake their hand. [SPEAKER_02]: Because he's a germaphob, which also made me laugh. [SPEAKER_02]: Howard Hughes, Howard Hughes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: He's like, do you want to kill me? [SPEAKER_02]: to know how many germs are in a handshake?
[SPEAKER_02]: We go to the cargo bay and Jake asks miles for a power cell. [SPEAKER_02]: He won't reveal that this is all to get his dad a baseball card, you know, because a Brian's like, what do you need it for? [SPEAKER_02]: Nog starts to explain what we have to trade it for, and then Jake's like, no, no, no, it's a, it's kind of a secret.
[SPEAKER_02]: So clearly, Jake, if Jake would just tell people what he's doing, [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, this would be a lot easier. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they wouldn't. [SPEAKER_01]: They're going on a scavenger hunt. [SPEAKER_01]: This is what's going on. [SPEAKER_01]: They, they have to find all these things to get.
[SPEAKER_01]: what they need to give to Geiger, what I found was interesting is that O'Brien's holding a tricorder, but he also has a stylist too, or whatever that thin thing was, and I'm like, what the heck, like we've never used that, but then later when he does swap it out with Nog and Jake, Nog says something like, I'm going to scan a U scan and I'll, you know, all, what is it, recalibrate, [SPEAKER_01]: to I think to Jake as if that's the scanner.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so confused because I thought that's what a try quarter does. [SPEAKER_01]: It scans already. [SPEAKER_01]: You don't need a additional. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you remember though around this? [SPEAKER_02]: This is season five. [SPEAKER_02]: So this would have been like 97, 97. [SPEAKER_02]: Perfect.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Apple came out with this thing called the Newton. [SPEAKER_02]: Just like a try quarter. [SPEAKER_01]: So you think this is this is Newton inspired? [SPEAKER_01]: I think this is Newton inspired. [SPEAKER_02]: I remember Marvin Rush had a Newton. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I got a Newton. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure all the writers, all the DS9 writers all had Newton's as well. [SPEAKER_01]: It was every star truck. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you haven't. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: The youngsters out there listening, please Google Newton. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Apple Newton handheld.
[SPEAKER_02]: it was a very star trek item back in the 90s. [SPEAKER_02]: Got it. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's that's what that reminded me of. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I also find it interesting about this scene in several other scenes that it's nod, the forengi, who wants to tell the truth.
[SPEAKER_00]: And [SPEAKER_00]: and the human is the one who's being very for regular. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: If it weren't for Nog, Jake would have absolutely no luck here. [SPEAKER_02]: Like Jake tries to get the device or whatever, but he won't tell him what it's for. [SPEAKER_02]: And Nog says, let me show you a little something about incentive based economics.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's Nog. [SPEAKER_00]: who talks about, yeah, he's the branch of the outfit. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not gonna be the branch of the outfit. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he says, is there something he'd rather be doing right now? [SPEAKER_02]: Like the Hall of Sweets, maybe kayaking, and suddenly, O'Brien's like, yeah, I would.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give you the power cell if you recalibrate or something, whatever he wants. [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no [SPEAKER_02]: It's very smart, Nog.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good job. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, we go to the infirmary. [SPEAKER_02]: They need a solution from Bashir. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake tries the Nog line here. [SPEAKER_02]: But it doesn't work on Bashir because this is exactly where he wants to be. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He loves anything medical.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he doesn't leave at all. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake's like, isn't there somewhere you'd rather eat? [SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm exactly where I want to be. [SPEAKER_01]: But Naga also saves the day. [SPEAKER_01]: Naga says, just had a curiosity. [SPEAKER_01]: If you had to name one thing that would make you happy right now, what would it be?
[SPEAKER_01]: But she was like, I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: And he thought, no, it's a come on, anything, humor me. [SPEAKER_01]: But she was like, cool, good luck. [SPEAKER_01]: and that's kukilaka was gone but evidently because leader said kukilaka was cute she let leader borrow kukilaka but she never returned kukilaka.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that is the mission. [SPEAKER_01]: If you can retrieve kukilaka you will receive the stuff you need for me. [SPEAKER_02]: Nog goes in, takes hold of her arms. [SPEAKER_02]: He gets her to wrapped up for a second. [SPEAKER_02]: She sort of grabs him, grabs him, grabs him, and then he's stuck.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then he manages to kind of swap the bear for it. [SPEAKER_00]: Very smartly, very smartly blosenerier. [SPEAKER_00]: Without, you know, you could see him thinking, what am I doing now? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And he comes up with a solution. [SPEAKER_00]: Very smart. [SPEAKER_00]: Very smart.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he blows in the year and then he does the Indiana Jones swap of the pillow through for the future row. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and did you guys notice how he leaves? [SPEAKER_01]: It's like a access panel or something. [SPEAKER_01]: Air vent or something is where he goes through. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was so hilarious.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, oh, Sneaky. [SPEAKER_01]: He totally snuck in there. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, very Sneaky. [SPEAKER_02]: We go to the captain's office. [SPEAKER_02]: It looks like tea time at the top of this, but then I look at these. [SPEAKER_02]: glass is. [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, is that vodka?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a tall vodka. [SPEAKER_02]: It was just clear. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's vodka time. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Or why? [SPEAKER_02]: It was probably water, but it seemed very fancy for a water glass. [SPEAKER_02]: Wins says that they want a non-aggression treaty with the minion.
[SPEAKER_02]: Cisco says though, you know, Starfleet is committed to helping beige ore. And then when asked, can you promise total defense? [SPEAKER_02]: Can you promise? [SPEAKER_02]: This can he promise that so she's kind of pushing him on specifics and he can't make those promises He can't make them so she says well, what do we do then and he says stall just wait Keep all your options open.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it's a [SPEAKER_02]: You know, she trusts him. [SPEAKER_02]: She actually holds his ear after he says that. [SPEAKER_02]: He says, you know, stall, wait. [SPEAKER_02]: Holds his ear and she says, okay, I'm a scary. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Put ourselves in your hands. [SPEAKER_02]: So she trusts him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: But she had to do that. [SPEAKER_01]: She had to feel the, she had to feel out the paw first to make sure that he was saying that she could believe what he's saying. [SPEAKER_00]: I think so. [SPEAKER_00]: And she does. [SPEAKER_00]: But, again, because they are at the top point of the hierarchical ladder for the Jordan religion, they're both on the same page as far as what's important to them, Bayjor, Bayjor is important to them.
[SPEAKER_00]: They can put aside their political differences because Bayjor means a lot to both of them. [SPEAKER_00]: She, as the head of the religion, he, as the emissary, who is there to protect Bayjor, to be the conduit Bayjor in the gods. [SPEAKER_01]: Here's a question for both of you. [SPEAKER_01]: So when she grabs his ear and is that checks for his paw?
[SPEAKER_01]: It is she is checking for his paw. [SPEAKER_01]: She's not just ceremoniously doing a ritualistic paw. [SPEAKER_01]: Goodbye, and I touch your ear and leave. [SPEAKER_00]: No, it's just because she'll do it again later on with with with with with you and to take that he has the wrong paw.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: So, we're at Geiger's quarters, Jake enters with all the stuff, Geiger climbs out of this chamber. [SPEAKER_02]: I love that chamber. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like an egg chamber. [SPEAKER_00]: Just taste this chamber. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's basically the same chamber we saw on the last episode.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's got an egg over it. [SPEAKER_00]: All the stasis chambers other than this egg thing that we've seen in Star Trek. [SPEAKER_01]: They're made from that whatever foam core and then paint it. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, everything with that metallic gray, with it's gray. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just the same.
[SPEAKER_01]: Over and over. [SPEAKER_01]: This thing was a high polished, [SPEAKER_01]: I was like a base that's finished. [SPEAKER_01]: I was amazed. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, props found this. [SPEAKER_01]: Holy cool. [SPEAKER_01]: This isn't a redress of a prior set piece at all. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, you're like, you found somewhere, you know?
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was so, I applauded. [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, wow, we didn't get anything that came up. [SPEAKER_01]: And the top came up, he comes out of it. [SPEAKER_00]: I wish it to Lorian, yes, to him as it was. [SPEAKER_00]: Not only did they find that, they found a small replica of it as it said in the auction.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that's right. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: After he comes out, Geiger says refreshed, regenerated, mildly entertained. [SPEAKER_02]: But he mentions, I do get bored after the first five hours. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, so he's got to figure out this boredom thing. [SPEAKER_02]: The cells get bored and that's, you know, you'll die, you'll die.
[SPEAKER_02]: You'll die if you get bored. [SPEAKER_02]: I got the Jake Scott what he wants. [SPEAKER_02]: He activates the machine at the end of this. [SPEAKER_02]: It's very noisy. [SPEAKER_02]: It kind of pans up. [SPEAKER_02]: He puts the stuff in the machine. [SPEAKER_02]: It starts to make noise.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hard to do on our set because when you pan up, you get lights. [SPEAKER_00]: It's what you exactly now. [SPEAKER_00]: Get set. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it ties together the noise to weigh in up above hears it. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what that noise is? [SPEAKER_02]: No, what is it? [SPEAKER_00]: It's the sound of immortality.
[SPEAKER_01]: That line. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the line the tiger has. [SPEAKER_01]: That was so I love that line so good probably. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and you're right It does go up to weigh you in quarters and he and the other the jemodr is actually scanning Downwards and yeah, weigh you and is pressing his ear You know get in the ear close to the to the floor and he's wondering what is going on beneath me?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes. [SPEAKER_02]: He thinks it's about him as way you know often does. [SPEAKER_02]: We go to Jake and Knox quarters, Knox playing this very loud, cling on music. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake's working on a pad. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake asked to turn it down. [SPEAKER_02]: Knox mentions that he's filtering out distortions.
[SPEAKER_02]: uh for sub-harmonic distortions for worse worse opera recordings, jigsets he's trying to add a little humor to cure his speech for the agriculture and segregation. [SPEAKER_01]: Is our assumption that Jake writing the speech is to get another item from Kira? [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: These are all promises they've made, they're all promises.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my only knock on this is they should have made that they should have made the sound of the recording even louder in the beginning because it didn't seem [SPEAKER_01]: Like it was that loud that for him to be like, I can't think, you know, it just it wasn't why I don't know that would that would definitely distract me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was I I don't really like calling on music. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll be honest. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, not my favorite. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, whenever they play it on Star Trek, I'm always like, oh [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just don't buy that anybody would actually think that's beautiful New Year's there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but did you think the volume was fine? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, I thought it was very annoying. [SPEAKER_02]: And I thought Jake was, Jake's line when he says, tell me what you think of this. [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, you know, thanks for having me here. [SPEAKER_02]: I've always thought it odd that the topic of water reclamation was usually treated as such a dry subject.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, no, no, I was like, yes, that is actually very funny. [SPEAKER_02]: They were having fun these writers for this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: They go down the quarter, making another delivery, but they walk into Geiger's room, and it's completely empty. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh-oh. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: What the heck? [SPEAKER_01]: Dexene, they're in the security office with Odo, and Odo has no record of Geiger even being assigned to the quarters. [SPEAKER_01]: And now I'm thinking, was he a figment of their imagination? [SPEAKER_01]: What's going on here? [SPEAKER_01]: We don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's a little confusing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Nog brings up maybe the soulless minions of Orthodoxy finally caught up with their [SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's funny, as they explain, they start quoting Geiger and notos just sitting there. [SPEAKER_02]: Who? [SPEAKER_02]: Why? [SPEAKER_02]: What? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It's very funny and hard to do those those kind of reactions are hard to do unless Renee.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, great job. [SPEAKER_01]: I Renee. [SPEAKER_02]: It's teamwork. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like because they have to set it up. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_02]: And then he's got a lot of dry fly response can land as a joke. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake and Nog were we're so good. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, we go to the promenade.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jake and Nog are worried about Odo's threats. [SPEAKER_02]: They mentioned that [SPEAKER_02]: you know they could he may file public nuisance reports on them and not can't have that on his academy record uh... jay thinks he's just trying to scare us and that's when they see uh... they see when up top and jay thinks oh maybe that's it's all because of wind because she was mad because we bid on that lot with the mandala that the jordan mandala in it [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because they see the Vedic that was at the auction talking to us.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that's how that prompts that dialogue there. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so like, ah, that's the connection. [SPEAKER_02]: That's the connection. [SPEAKER_00]: I found this to be enormously amusing. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's why. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: What? [SPEAKER_00]: I can't tell you how many episodes of our show where someone comes up with a cock and may be reasoning for something and it turns out to be the solution to their episodes.
[SPEAKER_00]: And, and here's a cockomaming reasoning, and it does, and I thought, I think the writers were just making fun of something they did on a regular basis, which is come up with something that sounds totally off the wall. [SPEAKER_00]: And instead of it being, yes, indeed, the answer, it turns out to be what it actually is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cockomaming. [SPEAKER_02]: Jake goes down this whole, you know, yes, the Vedic was bidding and we've got to go into the lion's den. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we just got to it's a it's a human expression. [SPEAKER_02]: We just got to walk right into the lions and face this They think they kidnap Giger correct?
[SPEAKER_02]: That's just why they're going to yeah, but I like Nogs response where she's like terrified and in shock and he says [SPEAKER_02]: Lions, giders, bears, and then Jake looks up, oh my, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Wizard of Oz, oh, it's I love it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because some of these writers are having it.
[SPEAKER_00]: That there's so much, look at the inchoke. [SPEAKER_00]: The inchoke is for me anyway. [SPEAKER_00]: His lions, gliders, that's cute, that's the bears. [SPEAKER_00]: Who wrote the episode, who's the, who's the head writer on the show? [SPEAKER_00]: Ira? [SPEAKER_00]: There I was even there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my I didn't go with that. [SPEAKER_01]: I went a bear as in Cucolacabair is what I'm okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay I did too, but that's another way I'm there. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean I went lion Geigers and there's even bear [SPEAKER_02]: very funny. [SPEAKER_02]: That whole episode for me was worth that one line.
[SPEAKER_02]: If we go to the corner, our way in is feeling good about it's common interest with wind. [SPEAKER_02]: He says that we're very much alike after their meeting and she checks his paw, his ear, and she goes, nope. [SPEAKER_02]: We're nothing alike. [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing at all, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then Jake steps up. [SPEAKER_02]: We need to talk. [SPEAKER_02]: She runs into the boys and we got right to the captain's office. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, you accused her of kidnapping Geiger. [SPEAKER_02]: What are you insane? [SPEAKER_02]: He is mad. [SPEAKER_01]: I just love this episode because they were able to fit so much into it by just jumping.
[SPEAKER_01]: You skipped the actual scene of them, you know, asking about. [SPEAKER_01]: Did you get that them and just go right to Cisco's reaction? [SPEAKER_01]: That happens over and over again in the system. [SPEAKER_01]: So they cramps, they jump so much. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it's always moving. [SPEAKER_02]: It's great.
[SPEAKER_02]: Cisco's mad. [SPEAKER_02]: Nog starts to tell him the holes spill the truth, but Jake interrupts and covers with the lie of You know what the truth is? [SPEAKER_02]: We were drunk. [SPEAKER_02]: We were just not like what? [SPEAKER_02]: and Cisco is very mad about that. [SPEAKER_02]: He confines them to quarters until further notice out in ops as they walk out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Nogs thinks Jake has lost it. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like you are insane. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's jeopardized his career. [SPEAKER_00]: Nogs career. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the commander of the station saying that the cadet is now under restrictions. [SPEAKER_00]: And that he got drunk, excuse me, this is what happens in a fellow, you know, the lieutenant gets drunk and gets cashiered because he's being drunk.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so not gets every reason to be upset with his friend is causing him more and more trouble. [SPEAKER_00]: And if they would just tell the truth, which is what's Nogg has been trying to do this whole episode, if they would just tell the truth, it would be so much easier. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, agreed.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, in the turbo lift, Nogg says, you know, they need to maybe, you know, get away, clear their minds, because as your friend, you're starting to go over the edge, maybe we just need some perspective. [SPEAKER_02]: And as he's saying this, they've literally been out of the turbo lift.
[SPEAKER_02]: and they're in the gym at our, uh, on the gym at our ship. [SPEAKER_00]: What he says is, you need to clear your head and then, and then to be me happy. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, you need to get away clear your head and they are literally whisked away by the way, which is a little hard to clear.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not clear. [SPEAKER_02]: So funny. [SPEAKER_02]: They're in the interrogation room where you're in interrogating them. [SPEAKER_02]: He asks, how do they know Giker? [SPEAKER_02]: Jake tells the truth, way and finally the beauty of this. [SPEAKER_01]: You like you said, Armen, the entire episode is not trying to get Jake to tell the truth.
[SPEAKER_01]: The final moment where he does tell the truth, he's not believed by way you and initially, right? [SPEAKER_01]: So that was like, oh, my gosh. [SPEAKER_02]: So then he makes up a story about Willie Mays, the time traveler. [SPEAKER_02]: That to me is my best part of the episode. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you love that part.
[SPEAKER_00]: That lie. [SPEAKER_00]: It's so wonderful on so many levels. [SPEAKER_02]: I just love that line. [SPEAKER_02]: So rock delivers it beautifully. [SPEAKER_02]: Way in, listen to this, this version, the time traveler version, and then he responds, I believe you. [SPEAKER_02]: And just like you do, you know, not that, but your first story.
[SPEAKER_02]: So after he lies, he's like, okay, the first story makes sense. [SPEAKER_02]: He wants to know the truth about Giger and Nogger explains that he wants to be immortal. [SPEAKER_02]: And then way you and is like, oh, immortality, I'm into that. [SPEAKER_02]: He's kind of into it. [SPEAKER_00]: And you know why, of course, he's a clone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he's a clone. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he doesn't want to die in a sense he has immortality or at least Jeff Comst does. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know with it. [SPEAKER_00]: Wait, who does but Jeff to clone the Jeff of Comst does. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, enthusiasm of of when he says the after the reaction to the immortality line by Jeff was just I'll just love that he was so into it and it very funny they've made it for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that scene. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Nog and Jake started to leave in their way and he's like, wait, aren't you forgetting something? [SPEAKER_02]: The card. [SPEAKER_01]: So actually, he doesn't, it's interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't say the card. [SPEAKER_01]: And when he's you're forgetting something, the reaction, the end of that scene is on Jake.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Jake, the way that Dorn played made him act that ending, that reaction is almost like confusion of like, [SPEAKER_01]: What, or wait, is there a catch? [SPEAKER_01]: So it wasn't like a lation, like, oh, yes, the card, which is great because it wasn't telegraphing it. [SPEAKER_01]: Does that make sense?
[SPEAKER_01]: It was, yes, sort of, it kept you as an audience member kind of thinking and guessing. [SPEAKER_01]: You weren't sure what it was. [SPEAKER_01]: You're, you're hoping it's the card, but the reaction that was given by Jake was, [SPEAKER_02]: I think it was like more ambitous, which is I think was needed.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the captain has a log next where he basically explains over this montage of all of our favorite heroes. [SPEAKER_02]: Two days ago, the station felt like a tomb, but now everybody seems great. [SPEAKER_02]: And he doesn't understand it. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like a mystery to him. [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing's really changed.
[SPEAKER_02]: The [SPEAKER_02]: but he says, maybe the real explanation is as simple as something my father taught me a long time ago, even in our darkest moments, you can always find something that makes you smile. [SPEAKER_02]: And we've got all these montages of Brian going kayaking in a ridiculous outfit.
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll share with Kukilaka, Lita, the searching for her missing bear with big hair, which rhymes with bear. [SPEAKER_00]: And have we gotten to the hug yet between father and mom? [SPEAKER_02]: Not yet, but the very end, yes. [SPEAKER_02]: Cisco has his baseball card, Nog gets a handshake and Jake gets a big hug at the end.
[SPEAKER_00]: That also was one of the golden moments for me. [SPEAKER_00]: Was that hug that genuine, absolutely full of love, hug, between father and son? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And, and we, I don't have to repeat this, but I will, which is, that's the way their relationship was off camera as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's beautiful. [SPEAKER_00]: In the earlier scene, uh, when the party is just played up, it's the very first scene. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, Michael makes sure that he has Jake kissing Cisco on top of his head. [SPEAKER_00]: Another love and rapport between father and son.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think father and son is, is, is one of the things that happens in this, certainly one of the main things that happens in this episode. [SPEAKER_01]: During the montage, I really enjoyed the moment of way you're getting into Geiger's chamber. [SPEAKER_01]: I did something about that moment.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, yeah, it's geared for that in a way. [SPEAKER_01]: But what is your theme slash less and less moral for this episode, Robbie? [SPEAKER_02]: My lesson is from Cisco's last line, or he says, even in the darkest moments, you can always find something to make you smile. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a great lesson.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is. [SPEAKER_00]: Armour, what is yours? [SPEAKER_00]: I love what Robbie said. [SPEAKER_00]: And if I had it to you over again, I would imitate what Robbie just did, but I came up with this thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Good intentions become hard work when done on a whim. [SPEAKER_00]: Hell is paved with good intentions.
[SPEAKER_02]: How hard can it be? [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: My theme slash lesson slash moral is exactly the same as Robby's. [SPEAKER_01]: Even in the darkest moments, you can always find something to make you smile. [SPEAKER_01]: Our Patreon poll winner for theme slash moral slash lesson of this episode as submitted by Alex Ray.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even in the darkest moments, you can always find something that'll make you smile. [SPEAKER_01]: Joseph Cisco. [SPEAKER_01]: So there you go, a trifecta. [SPEAKER_02]: Unable mention for theme, moral lesson of this episode is submitted by Stephanie B. [SPEAKER_02]: And that is, blame it on the soulless minions of Orthodox.
