The Trpimirović Dynasty: Croatia's First Royal House

Before the Habsburgs, before the Ottomans, before the very idea of a Croatian kingdom took shape, there was the Trpimirović dynasty. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore the rise and fall of the family that forged Croatia's first royal identity. From the charter of Duke Trpimir in 852 to the tragic end of the dynasty with Stjepan Držislav and his successors, they trace how a small duchy on the Adriatic became a kingdom that could stand up to Byzantium and Bulgaria. Along the way, they unpack the legend of King Tomislav's coronation, the diplomatic tightrope walked by Queen Jelena, the mystery of the 'missing' kings, and the dynasty's final gasp in the eleventh century. With a focus on the charter, the coronation stone at Duvanjsko polje, and the dynasty's legacy in the Croatian Sabor, this episode offers a fresh angle on the origins of Croatian statehood. Perfect for anyone who's wondered how a medieval backwater became a player on the European stage.
