In conversation: Conor Mitchell

Award-winning Belfast based composer Conor Mitchell chats with Outburst's Ruth McCarthy about his daring new opera tryptic, THE HEADLESS SOLDIER, written with acclaimed playwright Mark Ravenhill (Shopping & F*cking; The Boy in the Dress), exploring why opera and classical music have been a secret language and haven for queer people for centuries, how TV has changed our attention spans for art, and the radical potential of queer work to turn the lens on the power dynamics of heteronormativity.

THE HEADLESS SOLDIER has its world premiere in the Lyric Theatre Belfast for the opening night of Outburst Queer Arts Festival, November 9th 2023.

Recorded at Accidental Theatre Studio, 8th Sept 2023.
