The Performance Psychcast - Episode 39 - How Language Shapes Relationships in Professional Sports Teams - Dr Kieran File

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of the Performance Psychcast. Today we are very fortunate to be speaking with Dr Kieran File.
Kieran's research explores how professional athletes, coaches and managers use language when engaged in team and media communication. His current research focus is on how athletes, coaches and managers build team culture through their communication choices. Kieran also applies his research to help professional athletes, coaches and managers with their communication needs.
Kieran has written a fascinating book entitled "How Language Shapes Relationships in Professional Sports Teams" which examines the role that coach and athlete language plays in shaping relationships. The book looks at how every day, authentic language patterns used by coaches, captains and players influence these relationships and how they can mediate factors such as power and threat and teamwork.
