Spontaneous Mediumship: When Spirit Interrupts Your Day

Welcome back to the Unity Code podcast. I'm your host, Nicole, and very recently, in the past few weeks, I have had two instances of delivering spontaneous mediumship readings while I am out and about in public and not open at all.

2:11 And isn't this such an odd thing? Because those of you know, I talk all the time about how I do not walk around open at all. I do not look for spirit. I do not seek messages for spirit. And yet I found myself in the very shoes of the people I judge. God, spirit always puts me in my place. Am I am I right?

2:35 Like all the time. And also delivering messages that needed to be delivered at exactly the right time and exactly the right place. And so you're here with me as I gently unravel my reality of the idea of spontaneous mediumship. And I will give examples of these readings and what I'm kind of learning and uncovering.

2:56 And also for those of you that are interested in doing more of spontaneous mediumship, if you're interested in that, right? You are certainly welcome to listen to this episode, take the learnings that I have, take the pros and cons that I have and try to do it in your own world. And also for those of you that maybe aren't mediums but are interested in receiving those spontaneous messages.

3:21 This episode might give you a clue as to why or why not you're getting those messages as you are just going about your day. So let's go. So this all began a few weeks ago in a bowling alley. Yep, it started in a bowling alley. We were at candle pin bowling for my dad's birthday. It's his favorite sport.

3:43 And for those of you who know, you know. And for those of you that don't, candle pin bowling is like bowling softballs. You might call me a wuss. I might have weak wrists, but here up here in New England, we love our candle pin bowling. Okay. So we are in this bowling alley ordering pizzas and bowling to our heart's content.

4:02 We finish our first round of pizzas, and there's empty and dirty plates all over the area that we are bowling in. We did order another pizza. So we did have more pizza coming that we could use these plates for. But at the same time, there was a gentleman that walked around picking up every single one of the plates, didn't ask if we were done, didn't know that we had ordered other pizzas.

4:24 And by the time I noticed that he was picking up all the plates, it was kind of too late. I didn't want to ask him to leave them. So I was like, just, you know, let him finish his job, right? And so in my mind, I'm like, oh, I'm gonna have to go ask for more plates when this second round of pizza comes.

4:37 So inevitably it gets it, it comes, and I'm like, oh, I'm gonna go get the plates. And so I'm looking around for our waitress, and she is nowhere to be found. I am looking around at the bar for somebody at the bar that might have plates, nowhere around. And so I start walking up closer to the bar. So hopefully, you know, there's a camera or something that identifies that I'm waiting and someone will come.

5:01 And there's actually a woman that is sitting behind the bar. Poor thing. Looks like she probably works three jobs, she doesn't, but she looked tired. It was earlier in the day. And, you know, as somebody who used to work on my feet all through college, I understand the need to sit down. So I didn't want to interrupt her.

5:20 And I'm like, I'm so sorry. I'm just wondering if you have some plates because they took ours. And so she was very gracious, got up, like walked down across the bar to go get the plates, right? And in that moment, I followed her. Like there's, and and this is how spirit works. It's all these weird things that happen.

5:37 I followed her all the way down to the other end of the bar. And then she handed me the plates. And then I just felt called to linger. And and so instead of being the weirder that's just standing there, I start making small talk with her. And I'm like, Oh, you were sitting down. Do you like, are you here all night?

5:57 How long's your shift? And she's like, Oh, I'm here all night. I was, I worked another job this morning. I she's a barista. So we talked a little bit about her barista. I notice all the incredible tattoos on her arm. And I'm like, and I hope you don't mind that I'm here, you know, just chatting with you.

6:10 And she's like, no, this is great. And then she's like, so what do you do? And I'm like, as those of you that know this is my cue for spirit. If they ask me what I do, I know they are game for a spontaneous reading. So those of you that are looking to do spontaneous readings, that is my number one rule.

6:29 You can set that rule with spirit too. If the person says, What do you do? If the topic of mediumship comes up, game on for a spontaneous mediumship reading. And so I say that I'm a medium, and she immediately says, Oh my gosh, I have goop goosebumps all over my body. And I'm like, Oh, that's why I'm here.

6:47 Got it, got it. And so, by the way, if you are somebody who wants one of these readings, notice whether you feel called to talk about mediumship. Notice if you call feel called to talk about your departed loved ones, your dead dad. Okay. As like some random person walks up to you, they might just be a medium.

7:08 There's a lot of us out there. I'm just gonna put that out there. So as she gets the goosebumps all over her arm, that is when I felt mom step forward loud and clear. And let me be very honest with all of you. I didn't ask mom to come in. I was not seeking mom. I was at the bowling alley with my parents, my siblings, my nieces and nephews, right?

7:34 There were a lot of us that were bowling in a very loud place. And still I felt mom come through. And so immediately I say, You have a mom in spirit, and she said, Yes, and she started tearing up. And what was so beautiful about this reading is it's one of those beautiful divine moments where the information just comes in so crystal clear.

8:10 Like this mom had clearly been waiting for me to show up and give her daughter a message. Because of the way, and I'm not going to go into all of the mumbo jumbo, but all of the different ways that this eventually happened, that we were at this bowling alley at the right place at the right time. And this mom did not waste an inn, in a minute.

8:32 And the amount of detail her mother went into was pretty incredible in like the two or three minutes that I was talking to this woman because she talked about a house and how she's trying really hard to find a house, find a new living. And I'm like, I can see it. I know it's happening for you. Her mom came through to talk about how proud she was for her.

8:57 She went to talk about how everything is lining up for her. We ended up talking about her significant other and how she's a little bit on a relationship hiatus for a short period of time, but it's all him, it's nothing about you. He'll he'll come around, he's coming back. Like it really does feel like partners for life in terms of this partner.

9:17 And so we went into all of these specific details, none of which was necessarily prompted by this beautiful, gorgeous woman that was behind the bar. But it was all about mom saying, I'm here. Here are the things that are going on in your life. Here is the advice that you need to hear. And also at the same time, they did not have the best relationship.

9:39 And so her mother also came through to apologize for being the mother who couldn't see her for who she was, who couldn't love her the way that she needed to be loved. And at the very end, she dropped the bomb on some other information that my sitter could take very specifically about her uncle that was still living.

10:08 And as a medium that was delivering this, like it was like verbal. I want like it was just like out of my mouth, couldn't stop it, channeling all of the information that's coming through. Very limited in terms of maybe the traditional clairs that you would normally see in a mediumship reading. It was just like out of my mouth, out of my mouth, out of my mouth, out of my mouth, all in a sequential order that allowed it to make sense and validate for this bartender that her mother is with her.

10:38 She sees all the problems that you're going through. She wants to give you love and advice, and she's wants to apologize for who she was and also like make sure you're keeping an eye on that uncle that's having some issues. And so all of this like gorgeous fucking evidential message information flow through me without resistance at all.

11:02 And was received so beautiful, so beautifully by this incredible woman. And I just let it flow. And when it stopped flowing, that's when I said, Thank you so much for receiving that message. I didn't pull for more, I didn't push for more. It was kind of like I dropped the grenade and run, if I'm totally honest with all of you, because I was just like, Well, there you go.

11:27 Do you have any questions? Here is my card. I gave her my card if she had any questions or wanted to reach out after the fact. Because I don't like to, you know, completely drop the bomb and run. I like to like be like, here's my info if you need any, if you have any questions about like me just spirit bombing you.

11:44 This drive-by experience while you're working and she's crying. And I grabbed the plates and went back to bowl. And there's a lot of feelings and emotions that come with delivering a spontaneous mediumship message like that because I wasn't open. I wasn't looking for it. I wasn't interested in giving her a reading, but at the same time, spirit was showing me these little nudges of signs of pay attention the entire time.

12:19 I could see how spirit perfectly set up the sequence of events that landed me in particular at the bar to ask for more plates. Right. And I trusted that spirit followed my rule that she had to mention, what do you do? Had to bring up the topic of mediumship. And so they walked through that gate for me.

12:45 And when I knew that she had walked through that gate, that's when the spirit came through loud and clear without asking. And I think this is the interesting part about spontaneous mediumship is could I have pollen it? Sure. I could have, right? I could have just sat there with and absolutely anybody that was in that bowling alley, open up and see who was there.

13:10 That's not how spirit wants me to work. That's not how I want to work, right? That's a lot of wasted energy. But spirit knew that I would be open for this because I've always told them that I can be their messenger and they don't abuse it. Thank God they don't abuse it. And I trust that whoever comes through, because I am so divinely protected, they are souls that my guides have approved to deliver the message.

13:45 And so when you start thinking about this idea of spontaneous mediumship as the medium, it's noticing all of the things that set you up to be able to deliver this message or put you in the right place at the right time for this message. And also it's understanding the rules of engagement and setting those with your team.

14:06 Because for me, the rules of engagement with my team are I am open to delivering messages, send them my way. So I know that there will be instances where I am delivering more of those spontaneous mediumship for people that are out there in public. Totally know that. Does not happen often, but I totally have set that expectation with my team that I will be the messenger that people need.

14:29 And at the same time, I've let them know with no uncertain terms that if the message needs to be delivered, there has to be some mention of mediumship that is well received by the person. And so it's like those two sets of criteria for me are my human saying, we have we are not reading everybody, we are only reading people that are open to it.

14:59 And all of those my spirit team knows. And so if they can literally set everything up that allows me to know that this is going to be a spontaneous mediumship connection, then I surrender into it just like I did. And I didn't force it and I didn't pull it. It just came right through me the way that you kind of see it on TV, which is a little bit wild.

15:22 And then I also want to say, like, thank God this woman was open to it. Thank God this woman decided to ask, what do I do for a living? And thank God, you know, honestly, personally, that I've gotten over the fact that I just blurt out that I'm a medium to everybody. Right. Because I've I've noticed that if I say that I'm a medium to people and they don't want a mediumship greeting, they're like, oh, that's great.

15:47 And they change the subject immediately. And I'm like, cool, they're not open to it. That's fine. Right. Not about me. But if I say I'm a medium and they are like, whoa, tell me more, then I know that their game for maybe a little more metaphysical play in the conversation that we're having. And so for me, like this is why I tell a lot of people to come out of that metaphysical closet, is because people are people.

16:09 People are generally gonna like you, right? Or be polite or kind to you in your vicinity. You don't have to hide who you are because you're fearing how they're gonna take you. Because if they don't like a certain part of you, they're just gonna change the subject or walk away. Like it's no risk. It's no risk, okay?

16:26 And so I'm so grateful for this woman that allowed me to read her while she's at work, also a little uncomfortable for her. So that was lovely. And by the way, I forgot to mention it, but I did ask consent at the very beginning. I'm like, your mom's coming through. Do you mind if I give a message? Sorry.

16:42 That was like the biggest part of this. And so that is kind of the key number three is allowing the person to say yes or no to receiving the channeled message from their departed loved ones. And because she had said yes, then we proceeded with this. And so this was just a beautiful story of how spontaneous mediumship just naturally happened through the course of this day, through the course of this very short period of time.

17:13 And I was I was wise enough to know the symbols and signs, and spirit jumped through the hoops for me, and my the person and the sitter said yes. And so, like, all of these things have to happen. So, like, this is what I'm talking about with spontaneous mediumship is set the rules, set the boundaries that make you comfortable with the idea of spontaneous mediumship if you are a medium, right?

17:34 Set the rules like I have. I'm I'm here to help. They need to mention mediumship and I need client consent. I need client consent for this person to make sure that they are okay with receiving a reading, right? Those are all three things that I would follow before I say one thing to somebody. And don't you, don't you believe, like, don't you know that I get random spirits that stop by me all the time?

17:59 I do. And like, even though I'm not open, I do get the random spirits that pop in that want me to say hi to people. But if they're not following those rules for me, that they meant they ask about mediumship or they mention mediumship and I'm not allowing them consent, I do not deliver the message. Because that is, I think, where I draw the line in terms of ethics for this spontaneous reading for people, is like not everybody's open to it.

18:23 Not everybody's interested in it. Sometimes they need to make the choice to come to a reading. And sure, their departed loved ones might stop by to try to get to them. But if the avenue hasn't been created for me to deliver that message, then I trust that that spirit will find another way. I am not the only one that can deliver these messages for people.

18:45 And so for those mediums that are listening to this and they're like, I want to do that too, just remember that in order for a message to be the most effective, it has to be open and willing to be received. And if the message is not open and willing to be received, sometimes you can do more harm than good.

19:09 And so be careful and figure out how you want to embrace this process with your team. And for those of you who are more open to receiving a spontaneous reading, know that you are gonna get the people that maybe aren't as ethical sometimes, maybe, but the first thing that you can do is set the intention of receiving a spontaneous message from spirit through somebody.

19:39 Like set that intention, set that request out with your team, with your loved ones, with your spirit guides. Let them know I'm open to receiving. Right? I'll mention mediumship. I'll talk about how I've been to a medium. For me, like the saying the word medium is like a giant fucking green light. Like green means go.

20:23 And so if you're feeling called to say, talk about your departed loved ones or talk about mediumship when you're in the space of somebody who you don't know, follow that trust, follow that intuitive hit, because that might be the thing that gets you that beautiful, spontaneous reading. And just be open to it and realize that it is a three-minute reading, right?

20:45 It usually is a very quick, fast connection. And don't be afraid to ask questions afterwards. But most of all, use it as a beautiful sign and symbol that your loved one is still with you and is obviously trying to get in touch with you and wanting to contact you. So if this is you, might be worthwhile to set up a longer session to see what else is looking to come through for you, if that feels right for you.

21:15 And now I want to shift gears just for a minute here because I over the last weekend it was a little bit different. It was a little bit different. And I'm gonna talk about most likely the experience that most of you mediums have. And so the difference with what I just said is that the spirit came through, no problem.

21:33 The spirit almost came through without asking. Okay. In the next example, I was at a store that was potentially interested in hosting me as a medium for one of their events. And the woman that I knew was introducing me to a few of the other women that were also in the space, the shared space that we would hold the event in.

21:55 And they were all interested in whole hosting a mediumship event. But then for some fucking reason, Reason. I feel the need to like prove that I'm a medium when we're talking about events and I'm soliciting potentially new places to work. And so this one's totally on me. This is totally me and my ego.

22:10 But what ended up happening is as we're sitting there talking, it's not that their loved ones came through. It's not that just like the other woman, the mom, was like right there and ready to communicate. I started searching. I started opening up my awareness to say who's here. And of course, if you open up your awareness and say who's here, departed loved ones are going to show up.

22:34 Like that is that is mediumship 101. And so as I have these two women sitting right next to each other, the woman on the right, immediately I'm being made aware of a grandfather in spirit. And so I started to do this like cute little short, like, hey, I'm feeling your grandfather here. Is he like Polish German?

22:53 And she's like, Well, he's he's German, and then my grandmother's Polish. I'm like, great, that makes sense. So that means they're both here with you. And so just giving this like super spontaneous hi, they're here, they're with you, they're watching over you. But I really didn't deliver a lot of messages for her in terms of the work that she was doing.

23:09 Likewise, the same with the woman that was sitting to her right, so my left, I could feel very motherly, very maternal energy watching over her. And it was her mother and grandmother that was specifically kind of coming through. And so it was just really interesting because there's a key difference between spirit leading the spontaneous connection, which I've just explained to you before what that looks and feels like, versus me trying to sell myself.

23:37 Sorry, that's what it is though. Sell myself and opening up to spirit to deliver a validating connection and message that allows me to, I don't know, quote unquote, be more believable when people ask me what I do, which, like saying this out loud in my podcast, like I kind of don't want to post this, but like, but it's true.

23:57 And I think those of us that are mediums, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Because when people say that you're a medium, or when you talk about how the fact you're a medium with people who maybe don't know you, don't trust you, don't know your integrity, don't know the type of work that you do.

24:11 Sometimes we kind of feel the need to be like, well, let me see who's gonna come through for you and give a little bit of a free reading. And like just a warning, like for all of you, just like public service announcement. Like the plumber that visits your house doesn't go and fix your toilet for free, do they?

24:26 Like the the electrician that you meet on the street doesn't like fix your car battery right away, right? Like, like these are the things, and I realize I should have been a mechanic. These are the things that I want you to think about as you're kind of in public talking about what you do. There is no need to prove what you do to people.

24:44 If they have a question about it, you're certainly welcome to answer it. But we are service-based. And so if you're not feeling spirit pushed through in the way that I previously described, leave it be. Because here's here's the deal: is like you're always going to be able to connect to spirit. That is the whole point of mediumship is we train ourselves so that we can connect to spirit on demand for readings for people.

25:11 But it doesn't mean that while your own public, you are under the right circumstances to do so effectively. And so at the bottom line of both of these examples, I want you to ask yourself, what is your intention behind the work? And spirit is making it a be making it abundantly clear for me that if I am not focusing this work within the right intention, it's not gonna work.

25:38 And so they're getting really sharp with me because our teams like there's a certain level of evolution where they need to start, I don't know, putting up their boundaries or putting up clearer guidelines for us so that we can be the best version that we can be. And I'm definitely feeling that in my space as spirit bringing in the boundaries for me and reminding me that everything comes with intention.

26:01 And so if my intention is to prove myself to strangers, they're gonna shut that down so fast because I don't need to prove myself to anyone. I know what I can do. Versus if the intention is delivering a message because spirit has given me an incredible opportunity to do so, and I want to bring love and healing, then they're gonna send that person through with crystal clear readings, crystal clear energy, crystal clear messages.

26:33 And so that really is the bottom line here about this spontaneous mediumship is what intention are you bringing to the space? And so, yes, it's real. Yes, it happens, yes. People like me are out there delivering spontaneous mediumship messages. Yes, absolutely. But again, for me, it's an exception, not the rule.

26:50 But if you're looking to do this or if you're looking to receive this, focus on the intention of what you want to deliver. And if it is at all ego-based, I'm gonna put this out there, and you can all hate me if you want me, if you want to, if it is at all ego-based because you need to prove yourself, because you want people to like find you worthy, because there's something about you that needs to be filled because there's some shadow work you need to do, but you're doing it by you're filling it by like getting the dopamine hit of doing this work and feeling better about yourself.

27:28 Like there's intentions into that work. Is it for you or is it for the love and healing of the client? This went not exactly where I intended this to go, but I think it's a wonderful message from spiritism bringing in and channeling this podcast episode with all of you and reminding you the importance of intention in this work, whether you are the medium, whether you are the recipient.

27:56 And yes, spontaneous mediumship is absolutely real. And so I see spirit shifting gears for a second here. And so, okay, got it. I was like, where's the experiment? Okay, so spirit has a little bit of a challenge for those of you that are mediums. So, those of you that are mediums, I want to challenge you to see if spirit can show you what it feels like to do spontaneous mediumship out in public of service to spirit versus what it feels like when you are pulling information or opening up from a more egoistic perspective.

28:44 Let them kind of lead the way and say, can in the next week, can you give me an example of each of what it feels like to do spontaneous mediumship? Make sure you're setting your boundaries, setting your process with spirit. And at the same time, allow them somebody who kind of mentions mediumship, but then is like fishing for a reading, because that is very similar to what the second example was for me.

29:09 So if they are phishing for a reading and you're not feeling it come through, notice what bubbles up in your system that makes you feel the need to prove that you're not crazy and that you can talk to the dead. Because those are expectations others are putting on you is this idea of proving. And you get to decide with what intention you want this work to be in, what frequency you want this work to be in.

29:40 And for those of you that would love to receive a spontaneous mediumship reading, this is the time, friends, right? So open up to your own team, set the intention into the universe that you would love to get a spontaneous reading from somebody and see what pops up. See if it shows up, see what if you feel called to say when you are in a conversation with a stranger.
