Maximus. Sam, you all. What is going on, my guy?
What is what's going on, my dude? It is Wednesday, my dude. It is by the time this comes out. Hello, everybody. How for art thou? Good, thank you. A special hello to that guy from the It is Wednesday, my dudes meme. Yeah, I don't know what he was doing. He was in a he was in a uh an uh ad for one of the Spider-Man films.
Uh Spider Men. Well Spider's Men, uh French, obviously. Uh and because he was he does he does that bit in a in a Spider-Man outfit with goggles on. And then he does a noise, which you practice.
I didn't even have to prompt him. Oh, it's been another huge I just feel like 2026 is a huge year for music, announcements, tours, and 2027's shaping up to be fucking monstrous already. So expensive. Bit on. I'll tell you what, the outlook calendar is um there's some clashes. Well, we're gonna talk about feb in particular soon because there is a cosmic fuckload on it.
A cosmic? Wow. I couldn't think of any other words. We're taking it to the cosmos. Cosmos. I tried to read that book, the um Fabric of the Cosmos.
Is that Michio Kaku?
I don't know. Oh but it's about this thick. Yeah, right. Um and the book Tell me when to stop. Really? That's a lot of pages. Really? No. Let's go into something new, man.
Should we get some fresh new tunes going on, Sam? New tunes. No, we can't do the same joke twice, Sam. That would be boring and derivative. In that case, oi, listen up. New music.
Oh crost.
Uh, my first song this week, Sam, is from Remy Wolf, whose new album Mud has just dropped. Um, and this song is called Bottle. If you if you like Remy Wolf, you'll probably already know what we're working with here. It's that kind of slightly off-kilter altpop kind of sound. Um, this particular track feels a little bit like Fleetwood Mac meets a little light psych rock in there, but with um Remy Wolf's, you know, she has quite a distinct distinctive voice, so that's kind of obviously bringing it all together.
Um, Remy Wolf will be here for spilt milk in a couple of months. So if you're into a bit of this, Sam, get to a bit of spilt milk. Don't cry over it. Don't cry over spilt milk, as they always say. Anyway, Sam. Fuck. Thank you, Captain. It wasn't um wasn't our best, but we're here now. So anyway, this is this is bottle by Rebbe Wolf.
Thanks, guys.
Yeah, it's so catchy, yeah.
She's just she has a knack for a good hook. A knack. A knack. She's got a penchant, Sam, for a good hook. You and your words, honestly. A what? A pension. A pension. Yeah, sure. Fucking low-class troglodite I've heard.
I keep looking at this camera, but it can't even be.
You're looking at your own. Looking at your your side camera.
I'm looking at camera one, but it's pointed on you.
Um well, I'll tell you what, Sam, seg two, take it away.
Thank you for your permission. Just just this camera here, mate. It's too weird to look straight at it. Don't break the fourth wall. Shout out whoever that man is. I'll never reveal their name. Bit of sad, bit of grunge this week for me, Maxwell. I'll tell you what. Surprised. Shocked. Colour me surprised.
Shooketh. Shook eth. Yeah. Um, it is no secret that I have been getting into uh Dopamine Chamber by Fontaines DC. And their song Demolition could well be one of the best songs they've ever written. Um, so catchy, very classic kind of Fontaine sound. Brit Rock meets I'm depressed and want to put a gun in my mouth, meets I lost the love of my life, but I'm feeling optimistic, you know.
If you need beyond blue, uh reach out to the services available to you. Yeah, mate.
They very much have. They're a band that always evolves their sound. Um I think they're gonna be one of the biggest bands in the world if they aren't already. It's um, yeah. It's a great album. Yeah, it's quite nice. This is you now.
I was trying to think of a really bad Digimon evolution joke, but I just couldn't land it. Don't fuck with Digimon. Don't fuck with perfection. Don't fuck with uh the Digivolution. What was it the oh we should we should learn the Digirap one time? I reckon you already know it. I reckon I reckon it's off by heart for you.
I'm ready. Let's go.
Anyway, let's get this show back on the road, hey. Shout out, did you mind?
I feel sorry for the band I'm about to talk about. So this next band is they're called Leisure. They're out of Auckland. Auckland? They are dropping the kind of like funky psyche indie electronica that's somewhere between sort of parcels and jungle. Yep. Uh they dropped this track, Ride It Out, on their most recent record this year, and in the deluxe edition, they've brought in producer Poolside to remix it, and it just makes it so smooth and vibey.
This is like martini sib and music. Oh, yeah, this is Ride It Out. If if you so design it, I suppose.
I fucking hate martinis.
You haven't had a good one then. I like a French martini, the purple one. I do like a French martini. Bit fruity. A little shamboard and pineapple juice.
unknown Oh.
Daddy. Any further questions? Play the song. This is the pool side remix of Ride It Out by Leisure.
Mouthwash. I'll have the orange mint flavour, please. Oh, good from you, Maxwell. Thanks, mate. Ew. Thanks, Chieftain. That's better. Uh my second song is Friend of the Show, Niche Maxwell. She dropped her debut, EP White Noise. I've brought her to the show before. Love the Living End. Oh, yep. Yep. Yep, yep, yep.
Thanks, man. I'm not gonna. Every time we bring Niche to the show, we cannibalise the intros. Yeah. And then she always puts it on socials.
But you know what? I think tradition's begun now.
Yeah. Well, um, I've brought Want to the show, I've brought I Run. Now I'm gonna bring Drunk, the new single uh from the EP. She's playing her launch show on the 1st of October, Maxwell. I've bought us. Uh 1st of November. I was gonna say, that's back in time. She's playing her debut show on the 1st of November, Maxwell.
I've bought us tickets, actually.
I have you now.
So if you're not busy, would you like to I'll have to check the calendar, but yeah.
Oh, what a wank. Some of us are some of us have much on Sam. Well, I did see the little engagement shoot you did. Yeah, it is. Highly engaging.
Doesn't do a fucking amped photo shoot, but he'll do a photo shoot for his fiance. Yeah.
Anyway. See poor niche is gonna fucking listen to this. We've done it again. I'll tell you what. We've done it again. I don't mind it. I don't mind it at all.
Uh yeah, incredible songwriter. I'm pretty sure she's only 21. Like that's that should be fucking illegal. Like, it can't be that talented. Her voice is insane. And um, yeah, if you're a fan of Cyros, Ethel Kane with a little bit more energy, niche is yeah the the one to watch.
It's just it's I mean, I know every single person we every single musician we talk about is more talented than we are, but it doesn't know me when like they're like so young because I'm like, how how are you born with this talent? It's just insulting. You know what I mean? Like fuck off. Just as a washed up 32-year-old, like I'm just like, God damn it.
As a washed up not so 32. Yeah, you're 17 and a half.
Yeah.
Yeah. Uh I'm 19 in December.
Can't wait. Be nice. Be nice for you. Sam, my next song is called Hansel. It is by the band Rustler. Uh, they're out of Florida, and they kind of sit in this weird alt rock meets alt country kind of space. But then the vocalist Luke sort of sounds like Jack White, mixed with like Dave Le Pepe from Gang of Youths, mixed with like Interpol, maybe.
Yep. So a lot of like things layering in here. Think kind of like swampy southern rock meets garage rock, like at the strokes went down to went down to Joja, and you kind of get in the ballpark of what this song sounds like. So it's gonna be easier if you just listen to it.
But this is Hansel by Rustler, make you up and smoke and sound smoking city.
It's very like commanding vocally.
It is, yeah. It's um, and it gets in like from that main riff, it develops into there's a part of the back end that kind of sounds a bit like alt grunge kind of sound. There's all it's all kind of packed in there. It's very like the the spectrum of alt rock kind of thing.
Yeah, it's very cool. Uh my last song Maxwell is by a band called Slow Degrade. They're heavy shoe gays, and this is their new song, Hold On. Um, think dad rock. I've brought overgrown before. Dad Rock meets loath almost. Um divorced dad rock. Yeah. Yeah. Stepdad rock. Yeah, potentially. Stepfather. Step father-in-law rock.
Stepfather's not really a genre, is it? Uh stepdad. Step well, I'm sure it is. I'm sure it's for someone. I'm just, I'm not gonna verify my age and send my ID to the government, am I? Just holding your driver's license. Oh, anyway. This is hold on by slow degrade speaking of. Hold on.
I can feel my my shorts three cording. You can feel your Titan jeans rising. Yeah, and loosening.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah. It's important. Yeah.
Yeah.
Uh, you know, my uh my my burning spears flaming uh button-up T or button up shirt, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sweatbands on. Oh sick, brother. Would you go leather or sweatbands? Quite personal questions. Leather to begin, sweatbands to continue. Headbands to continue, my lady. So we've had the tunes. Should we have the news?
Yeah. Yeah. We should. I apologize to everyone. New tunes. News and tunes. 78 amps news and tunes.
Oh, I couldn't still laugh when I record that. I'm not sure if I was laughing with you or at you. I don't know. You know what? I'll take either. I like validation. A laugh's a laugh, Sam.
That's true. Uh a quick update. Last week we were talking about the announcement of the Powder Finger Tour. Um, tickets went on sale at various points last week, uh, over artist presale, uh, promoter presale, general on sale. I think there was like a Telstra presale, something like that. And the guys have done it, they've sold at 26 shows across all the metros and cans.
Shifting over 300,000 tickets. And uh if you uh how much are the tickets? Uh I think I paid about 180 odd for like the back end um standing, general edition standing. So I think they range from like 140 through to like 200 something. And they shifted 300,000. 300,000 tickets. If every ticket's 180, yes.
That's 54 million dollars. That is 54 million dollars, yeah. That's fucked. But don't forget they are also putting up like a stadium-sized tent in each that's that's that's gross money.
Like, yeah. That's insane. Big numbers, big numbers. I haven't seen numbers like that since numbers like that on the last tour that did that.
Well, I think Calvin Harris was the last show to to pull 300,000, and and that was like a couple of months ago, a couple of weeks ago, sorry, earlier this month. Yeah. And um the Powderfinger have more shows, so they're making a lower cost per ticket uh gross. But 26 shows, huge. And then they've come out and said, Don't worry, if you didn't get tickets, we're now talking about putting together some on-core run, an on-call run to bring everyone to bring it back for more dates later on.
Surely they're are they gonna play different sets? I don't know.
I mean, you they could, like, they've got they've got the depth, but fuck, you'd want to be good. Yeah, fuck. It is like no offense, but fuck me, you'd want to be good.
I think I think they're like don't put it this way. A, they're a band that gigged for a long time. So I think they've got they've got the depth, they've got the bench, and they've got the repertoire. And B, they have the because they're not promoting an album, they can have the freedom to pick anything from their uh their discography and just put together the ultimate set list of ones that they want to play, that fans will want to hear, that they haven't heard in like minimum 10 years or 20 years.
Yeah, like it's it's an insane move. But yeah, just if you if you are on the powder finger ticket buying train, you missed out, don't worry. There is talk of some encore shows coming down the line, but yeah, an insane move to sell 300,000 tickets. Insane. I I I struggled to get like I it took me three goes to get some.
It was crazy. So you scored powder finger tickets. I scored powder finger tickets for the Monday show. I'd go to the Monday show.
Well, yeah. In other good news, Maxwell. Yeah. I scored nickelback tickets. Mate, he's on front row, sleep on A. Nickelback G A or Don't Bother. Yeah. I'm moshing. I might get out of mosh retirement for animals. Shit. Circle bit to animals. One last job before retirement. Don't knock it. I have two tickets, and one of them has your name firmly sharpied on it.
Yeah, maximum price. I shorten that to max and it's oh two max. That's what it is. Oh, two maximum.
Oh you know, it's an easy, easy mistake to make that one. That's all right. We'll get in. We'll get you in. Don't worry. Speaking of bands, though, that Sam, you are very keen to see. There's been a uh quite the announcement that dropped today as a time of recording.
Uh yeah. Kings of Leon coming to Australia. And we obviously had only by the night on vinyl club not too long ago. Go listen to it, obviously. We want to clarify pure coincidence. We did not know this was coming. No, we had no idea. We had a theory. Yeah. But we actually got told we have no idea. Yeah.
Um, they're bringing out Ocean Alley, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane. Yeah. Which is what a that's a huge double bill. That is, yeah, it's a huge bill. Um, let me just pull up the specific dates because it's all part of their world tour in 2027. I can hit you with the dates if you need them. Oh, well, they're playing the 28th of February in Sydney, 3rd of March in Brisbane, 6th of March, 5th of March, even in Melbourne.
Um, a lot of bands playing the showgrounds. Yeah, 24th of March in Auckland if you need.
Uh Auckland? The a lot of bands playing the RNA. So that's the Domain in Auckland, Centennial Park in Sydney, RNA showgrounds here in Brizzy, and then Flemington race course in Melbourne. One thing I will note: good gaps between those shows. For a couple of extra bastards. Potentially, we don't know.
I'm not um if you are thinking about getting tickets, you should go in because I don't actually know. That's I'm not encouraging you to hang back and wait for the second show, but um, I'll note that there's some gaps in there.
There is some gapies. But um, yeah, I wanted to talk about February, but before we do, let's talk about On the Banks, which is also happening concurrently.
Mate, just non-stop. So on the banks, we've talked about a few shows that have already dropped from them. Um, we've talked about Leon Bridges, we've talked about Madness, we've talked about the Avalanches, and we've talked about Fat Boy Slim. They had they they rounded out more of their uh lineup last week with new shows announced from Amal and the Sniffers, Kasabian, uh Pete Murray.
Casabian, Casabian, Casabian, Casabian. I got a few likes on that post when they announced their tour. Look at him go. He's doing he's doing memes now. Yeah, you reply with gifts, it's the best thing ever. Um huge lineup. Yeah. Peter Murray. He's playing Feeler and his other one in full, I believe. And his other one.
Damn. The other one with um better days. Shout out, Pete. Yeah, yeah, true. I went to school with his nephew. Did you now? I did.
The one who's playing? Pete Murray. Yeah, yeah. I think he might be his nephew or some kind of relative who's playing as a support. Oh don't know, don't think so. Good. Glad we talked about it. The uh but that those shows are running across February and March. So uh if if any of those artists are interested in you, get into those, get down to On the on the banks.
Those artists are doing broader tours if you don't happen to be in Brisbane. But if you are in Brisbane, get to On the Banks. 100%. You might see us.
Yeah. Hello.
We're pretty hard to set a spot. We're quite short. We are. Yeah. And you know, I wear hard intentionally so I can hide. Yeah, yeah. And that's why you grew a beard. And that's why I grew a beard, so I'm even less conspicuous. Yes. It's actually a Velcro when he takes it off in public so people don't recognise him.
I sorry. On that note though, Max, we need to talk about February 2027 because I genuinely do not understand how I'm gonna afford all these shows. Uh I think you may have to take out some kind of loan or uh remortgage the house or something like that. I'm gonna have to do something like that because let me give you a breakdown of the month.
It's the shortest month of the year, and we've got it's not even a leaper next year. It's not even Jewel, mate. Shortest month of the year, and we've got Kings of Leon, Water Parks, Amel and the Sniffers, Kasabian, Leon Bridges, uh, System of Down, Faith No More, Lizzie McAlpine, Paleface Swiss, Throne, Day Seeker, Laneway, Haley Williams, Fontaines, uh, The Strokes, Sleep Theory, The Avalanches, Calvin Harris, Empire of the Sun, Drain, President, and Citizen.
At least three good bands on there. No, it's an absolute fuckload. You could genuinely see a top-tier show every night for the whole of February.
So don't bother, don't bother trying to sleep or like I the the number the amount of Brism workplaces that we'll have uh people just taking days off all throughout that that run.
Oh, I'm gonna I think I'm just gonna go ham. Absolutely. Hit as many as I can. Maybe that'll be the challenge. Workplaces, just hit it on. I've got the hundred bands that I've put on pause. Yeah. Where's the sound effect? Oh, sorry. Um I've got the hundred bands. I've intentionally tapered it back because I ate it's fucking exhausting.
It is, to be fair, going to a lot of gigs, like great, don't be wrong, good problem to have, but fuck me, you did get to the game.
You get to like the third or fourth, and you're like, fuck me. Yeah, yeah. You want to know set times specifically. Yeah. Um so I've intentionally tapered back because I know that November is a huge month, and then December's obviously good things, and there's a lot of sideshows and stuff. So the hundred will be hit.
You could practically do the hundred in February alone. You're not gonna be wrong, like just the bands you labeled down, that was like 30 bands. And most of them have a three to four band bill. Like you do the math on that, it's fucking enormous. A lot of bills. Lot of bills.
Gates. That's it. Nye Clinton. Russell. Yeah, good one. Good one. That's a deed card.
Yeah.
No, yeah. Yeah. Anymore? Any no, I think we should get into some video games. Sambo, uh, we uh GTA 5 is rapidly approaching. Sorry, I should start that again because it's not uh it's not. That was that was ten years ago. Yeah. GTA 6, Sam, is rapidly approaching. It is. And they've obviously uh here we care a lot about the game, but we care mostly about the soundtrack.
And the uh uh the developers and the artists that are working on it have kind of given us a bit more information about the soundtrack, about the original score that's coming up, and I wanted to do a bit of a deep dive on on what we know so far and hit you with it. So some of the big announcements over the last couple of days uh is that the original score is being uh produced, written, recorded by Justice, the electronic duo.
First of all, awesome. Um if you have seen, if you if you heard uh Justice, if you've seen them live, you know how cinematic and like massive that all of their stuff feels at the same time as being like dramatic and dancy and pop, it can kind of tick every single box. I don't think there's anyone in this world who can like rightly say that there's no justice song that appeals to them.
They just they do it all. And also like so many of their songs sample from uh classic rock and and hip hop and you know all the whole world of music that you know to they kind of are the perfect band to bring into GTA for people who like a little bit of all of that sort of stuff. Yeah, and then to kind of emphasize the the sound, the tone, the tenor, the vibe that they're going for, they dropped uh a song, Justice dropped a song featuring Sisla, King Gizard and the Lizard Wizard, and Tame and Parla.
Yeah, um Tame Impala worked with uh Justice on their most recent album on Never Ender. Um, this new song is called Flower in a Hurricane, and I'll tell you what, they've dropped Money for Nothing too, Sam. Like it's just the most 80s vibey track you've ever fucking heard. So we'll give it a little spin because I wanted you to like this is this is setting the time to be in Vice City in in the the Miami ripoff, like such a vibe.
Say what you want about Tammy Pollard, man. Can write fucking bangers.
I I just obviously, yes, I totally agree with you. But then King Wizard, King isn't a lizard wizard, like out of nowhere, but they you can hear that kind of weird influence that they have on things. Yeah, Scissor has a verse in there that just sounds fucking cool, like she just delivers that her vocal is amazing.
Um, so like if that's a like a musical uh thesis statement for what we can expect from from GTA 6, I'm already in.
They've got a bunch of different channels as well that they're not alluding to, but they're previewing. So cocaillo? Yeah, oh FM. So I didn't realize you spoke Espanyol Sam. It's modern Latin. Yep. Uh then you've got the country station, you've got we throwing hosts in while we go. Because bad bad morning is hosting uh Coca-Ta.
I didn't know that. Yeah. The Country Station. Um, you've got Afrobank station, you've got a metal station, it's called The Chamber, yep. You've got Flash FM, which is pop music, yeah. Uh you've got Dirty South Classics, which is a little bit southern with like regional rap and hip-hop. Yep. They've already dropped a few singles too.
Like Sexy Magic, K3L and Paco and Moroso.
And Fred again and Pink Panther S and Eddie and Decretchie, like big lineups. They're pulling in heaps of names for these songs.
Young Lean did a song with Future and Metro Booming. Travis Scott put out one, Morgan Wallen put out one, Cardi B put out one, Keith Richards put one out. Keith Richards is such a like random guy.
I love it because of course there's gonna be a classic rock station in there somewhere. Um, the song that Keith Richards puts out, put out is kind of like it's not very rocky, it's more like an acoustic y, like bluesy kind of thing. Yeah. Um, but like some of the artists that they've got hosting the stations.
I mentioned Bad Bunny before, Lana Del Rey and Morgan Wallen are hosting Backcountry Radio, Kerry King is hosting The Chamber, Burner Boy is hosting Afrobank, Robin is hosting Flash FM, and Trick Daddy and Trina are hosting Dirty South Classics. So like they've not wasted a fucking second getting big name artists to come and do stuff for this soundtrack, and I'm ready to go.
Have you pre-ordered it? The game or the soundtrack? The game. Uh I haven't yet. I'm just probably just gonna buy it digitally when it when it drops. Yeah, yeah. I don't have a PS5. I'd say now's a good good time to upgrade.
But are they gonna drop a PS6? Eventually, I'm sure they will, yeah. Maybe I do need to upgrade. But um I don't think we're gonna see a cultural phenomenon like this for a long, long time. Like the stranglehold this game soundtrack entire personality will hold on. Yeah. Like you're not gonna see people take sick days to play a video game ever again.
Uh you definitely will, I think.
Red Dead Redemption 3. Red Dead Redemption 3, 4 out five, maybe. Um, there's a few that I think could could pull it through. One thing that I will say is I think we often talk about how there's a a real lack of a monoculture in terms of like music and movies and stuff. I think GTA and to a lesser degree a couple of other um video games can pull together the monoculture in no way otherwise, like in a way that no nothing else can.
Like to have full almost fully fleshed out radio stations for each uh sort of genre that you know is reflective of Miami, of Vice City, is such a cool way to like create the monoculture out of the other cultures. Like it's like the it's like the megazord of the monoculture, if you know what I mean. Like, and I think that's why it has such an appeal across just across everybody, is that like you can load up and listen to the music you want to listen to and do the thing that you want to do within this giant world, and God, I'm I'm excited to just for everyone to be in there.
It's gonna be the talk of the town for a long, long time. Yeah. I mean, rightly so. The budget is reportedly between one and one and a half billion dollars. That's a lot of cash money. So to bu build the Birch Khalifa in Dubai, it's two billion. It nearly cost as much as the Birch Khalifa. I mean, that doesn't surprise me.
When you factor in the amount they'd have to like the soundtrack alone would have cost probably hundred, two hundred million just to get all done.
Yeah, but but even like the number of people who've been working on this for what, 13 years now? Like, I don't think it took them 13 years to build the Birch Khalifa.
No. And I think the one thing I really like about this drop is that GTA, you're not gonna see people doing like playthroughs in one day. People will speedrun it, obviously. But it's a big, big game.
Well, I mean, it's it's the game, it's the kind of game where like you can I mean, this is not a video games podcast. Everyone who has played has played GTA before. We're preaching to the choir. But I mean, like, I think that the beauty of the game is that there are times when like I do feel like just driving on the highway, listening to the music, like putting the radio on.
You dis I discovered so many songs from previous GTA soundtracks, like classic rock songs and modern pop songs and stuff like that. So it's such a cool like place for discovery to have artists who've like, you know, that is a stacked lineup that we talked through before, and that's only not even half of the the s the songs that are on there coming in writing songs for this game, but like huge, massive, mega.
To pull Keith Richards and Young Lean into the same record, huge. That's insane. Very fucking cool. Should we get to the suitcase now, Father? Let's do it. I'm gonna keep going on the GTA soundtracks for a second. Go for it. Sambo, I wanted to I wanted to capture that exact feeling. The best tune to cruise down the highway to on each of the GTA soundtracks.
Tune GTA tunes, Sam. Hit me with it.
Father.
Alright. And these aren't up for discussion. This is not a debate. This is the definitive. It's not available for masturbation. Sam, I'm gonna start with Vice City. I'm gonna start with one of the old timers. Think think think the polygons that are just like PS2AF.
She feels enough for me. Can I die?
Fucking banger. That's gotta be one of the best songs I've ever written. It's so good. Run to you by Brian Adams. That's the soundtrack of my childhood.
Like, just the simplicity, but like the perfect amount of reverb and like, oh, it's so good. It's so 90s. 80s. 80s, yeah. But that's what I said. Vibe is what it is. Huge vibe. Then we got a San Andreas, Sam. All you had to do was follow the damn train, Sam. All you had to do was follow the Sam train.
And uh this time, bit of rap for you, Sam. Bit of hip hop, bit of cube.
Don't come no voice ain't no fucking motion picture.
I got your bitter, my nigga get witcher and hitter. Make an ack to the neck. So you better run away.
So where check yourself before you wreck yourself gets comes from.
I think uh bit a bit of both. Chickade-check yourself before you wreck yourself, Sam. Chiggity check. Because shotgun bullets are bad for your health. It's a funny, also just a funny lyric. Like it's one of it's it's great. It's a bit of a, you know, obvious one, isn't it? Yeah. I've gone to the GP. I've just I've read a pamphlet.
Shotgun bullets, bad for the health. Not great. Yeah, yeah. Wouldn't recommend it. Not a great career move. Uh we're going to Liberty City this time, Sam. It's uh GTA 4. It's the Rapture, no Sex for Ben. I think it just captures the like hustle and bustle of like fake New York, you know what I mean? Like it's just it's a busy song, it's a busy city.
I'm ready. Vibes are high.
Ribbon twirling.
Yes, yeah, beautiful.
Faked it out.
Beautiful. Yes, beautiful, beautiful. You've got GTA 5 coming. Got GTA 5 coming, Sam. And this was a song that was written for GTA 5. Um, this was from this is from the band Neon Indian. Uh the song is Change of Coast, and I think it's that kind of indie pop uh sort of electronica that I think is just so synonymous with the 2013 when the gang came out, like it's just this just takes me straight back there.
Hit me I've never heard that song in my life.
Fuck off.
I've played GTA 5. It's all over the game. I think it's like the credits sequence. Oh, I skip the credits. No, like at the at the like you know at the beginning, like after you'd roll the bank and they're like running around and like they do like the all the sure can just skip that shit as fast as they can.
Fair enough. Well, Sam, there was a reissue of GTA 5, and they added something like a hundred extra songs. And I think there's one that they added that possibly the most GTA song of all time.
When you first started talking about it, I was like, Midnight City's gotta be in there. Yeah, look.
It's it's I the I think there is almost no better feeling than cruising down the the highway nighttime in uh in San not San Andreas, in um what the fuck is that place called? You know what I mean. Los Santos. Thank you, Los Santos.
Uh and just just having the best time. I tell you what, actually, I'm this is a bit of insight into my dating attempt. My attempt at dating. I was on a date recently and the question came up if the world was ending, what would your song be? Wow, asked to me. That's a what a what a listener of the show.
We were a few drinks down, like we're just listening to music in the car. And yeah, it was a great question. And I said, I'll just play it. My tears will be coming to see. Goody. She turns to me and goes, No fucking way.
Whoa.
And I was like, Yeah, and she goes, No way. And then she pulled up a playlist and it's like end of the world. And it was the same song. I do as much as I do love that that song's up there, for me it's outro or white, one of those two. Yeah. But we sleep together every week, Maxwell. That's true. Chemistry's already there, but when you find that chemistry with someone else, you're like, that's not bad.
So yeah, that was quite exciting. That's beautiful. We'll see. Give her a shout tonight. Well, certainly not at that stage. Wow.
Wow.
That's what he thinks it'd be. No, it's not.
I'd be asking for my money back.
Whoa! My no. Uh I'm gonna bring some melancholy to the show, Maxwell. Surprise, surprise, surprise. But I talk about how I love sad music, and I've made a realization that I don't like sad music. I like melancholy music.
Right.
It's not sad, it's not happy, it's melancholy, Max. It's in betwixt. This song is called Swirl. It's by Charlie Martin. Um very, I think uh Cleopatra, acoustic driven. It's not happy, it's sad. It's just kind of in its feels. Would you say it's melancholy? Yeah, I would. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the whole point of the segment.
Would you say that? Would you say that?
Such a time.
He liked that one clearly. Well, I I feel like we want to be hitting an exact five out of ten for melancholy, you know what I mean?
Yeah, and it's meant to um start a thousand-meter stare. You're meant to just stare off into the distance and yeah, I I'd give that a 6.5 out of five out of ten. Yeah. Yeah, I like that. Uh the next one, I've got some more upbeat ones for you now. They're melancholy, but they're there's a bit more energy to them.
So this is Last to Know by Balance and Composure, one of my favorite bands of all time. Balance, you'd like to imagine quite melancholic between betwixt two things, Sam. It is very guitar-driven, very spacious, very atmospheric.
Get it in ya, I'd give that a give it a three out of five out of ten.
Three out of five out of ten.
A little further away than uh than Charlie Martin.
Yeah, this one will be right up your alley then. And this is called Line by a band called Downwood. And this will hit you right in the melancholies. Let's check it out. I thought that was before. Close at the mark. Yep. So when we do the reaction video, you're just gonna be staring at the same spot the whole time.
Yep. Yeah. It's gonna make editing easy. Uh the next one is Friction by Kafune. Uh holy friction. Holy friction. What in the friction? They famously put out the song Tech It, uh, which is an absolute banger.
It's like I must.
I'll play Tech It for you, you'll know. Uh this song's called Friction, like I said, and it's just got a big noise rock ending to it. Very pretty um like vocal to it. I'm trying to think of the word. Uh falsetto, that's the word. Anyway, friction.
First thoughts, they love a high high noted you. They do, don't they? It's a it's a classic of the genre. But also, I think, I think uh more like a seven, seven and a half out of five out of ten. Right up there. Yeah, it's I thought how a bit more lot more bounce to it, a lot more go, you know.
Yeah, and well, I'm gonna finish off with uh one of my favorite songs of all time. This is Special by Mercury. Finish me off, Sam. Why are you down there? Anyway, yeah, this is special by Mercury. It's very shoegazy, it's so pretty. So it's not as good as Kafoon A? No, it's much uh it's it's much more melancholy.
We want to be more towards the five. Okay, yeah, yeah, nice. Yeah, yeah. Well, that was some melancholy for you, and Max put on the thousand foot stair. Thousand foot hell yeah, brother. Hell yeah. I love some foot stairs. Any last words for the for the people?
Uh just um can't wait to see the other 999 feet.
