David: 00:00
More than 80 years ago, a dancer from Barbados began sharing an idea that would ultimately change the way generations of people thought about reality. His claim was that the life you experience is shaped by what you accept as true within yourself. And that if you wanted to change your life, you had to learn how to feel as though what you desired was already yours before you had any evidence that it was coming. And long before the movie the Secret, before manifestation became a household word, before Joe Dispenza was teaching people to embody a, uh, future version of themselves, this man was teaching people to live from the feeling of their wish fulfilled. And his name was Neville Goddard. In 1944, he published a little book called Feeling Is the Secret that distilled this philosophy into one remarkably simple idea. To experience something different in your life, first you have to experience it within yourself. But that created a question that almost, uh, everyone who encounters this teaching eventually runs into. How do I feel abundant when I'm struggling to pay my bills? How do I feel loved when I'm. When I'm actually alone? How do you actually feel something you're not currently experiencing in your reality? That's what we're gonna explore today. I'm gonna break down Neville's philosophy, explain what he actually meant by feeling, and show you how to begin putting it into practice even when your current circumstances seem to contradict everything that you wanna believe. Because that's the difference between allowing this teaching to stay an interesting idea or to become something that actually changes your reality. So let's get into it.
Welcome to a A journey into the topics that matter to you most. From the neuroscience and spirituality of mindset and personal growth. To groundbreaking strategies for health, wealth and relationships. To open and honest conversations about pressing global issues such as the environment, censorship, corporate capture, and democracy. Each and every episode reminds us of the certainty of the goodness of the future and provides the teachings, tools, and timeless wisdom, um, inspiring you to create real, lasting change in your life and in the world. If you've been desiring a sanctuary for your spirit, a place to go to tune out the distraction, negativity and doom and gloom so that you can tap into the deep power, the vibrancy, and the potential you have inside, you're in the right place. Welcome to a changed mind.
Uh, all right, guys, we're going to unpack. Feeling is the Secret by Neville Goddard. In it, Neville presents an explanation of how he believes reality works. So this book has four short chapters and the foundation of all four. The relationship between your conscious and your subconscious mind. So in Neville's model. Your conscious mind can consider an idea, entertain a possibility, choose what to focus on. It's your thinker on a day to day basis. Your subconscious mind is then what either accepts or rejects the impressions that come from the conscious mind. And the subconscious mind is what actually brings those impressions into expression or material realization. So your day to day thinking can influence your subconscious mind, but it's not your day to day thinking that is actually creating your reality. And the way you impress an idea, uh, or the bridge between the conscious and subconscious mind is through the mechanism of feeling. Okay, now this word is important because when people hear feeling, they often think they need to generate an enormous amount of emotion. So the idea is like, let me sit here and meditate or visualize and try really, really hard to manufacture the feeling of what I want. And ironically, that's one of the biggest mistakes you can make when trying to apply this principle. So some people think that they need to get excited enough, grateful enough, inspired enough. Like if you can just turn up the emotional volume or the frequency, eventually something's going to happen. But the distinction I want you to understand is the difference between manufacturing an emotion about something that you want versus feeling like you already have it. Okay? Those are two completely different things. Because you can get very excited about the idea of a different life while still feeling underneath that excitement that it's far away or that it's going to be difficult to accomplish, or that it can happen for other people but not for you. The deeper acceptance is the feeling that we're looking for. So let's talk about what that means. Okay? I, uh, want you to think about something you already have. Your job, your business, a relationship that you love. So here's the question. How hard do you have to work to feel like you already have it on a day to day basis? Uh, the answer is you don't have to work very hard at all. Why? Because you already have it. There's a naturalness to it, there's an acceptance to it, there's a what is ness to it. It just is. You just have it. If you have a relationship in your life that you really value, you don't have to sit down for an hour a day and focus on how that relationship feels, but just to feel that you have it because you do. There's a permanency, a resonancy in your nervous system to it. There aren't any doubtful thoughts or resistance about whether or not you'll ever have it because you do. You accept it. And that acceptance is A state of being that you hold. So this is the feeling I think we're looking for, is the already having of it. And that's very different than the person who's trying to manifest it. So let me share a personal story. There was a time in my life when I didn't have a relationship. I really, really wanted a relationship. And for a long time I thought I had to obsess over having one. I remember hearing Napoleon Hill talk about a burning desire. So I thought I needed to obsess around it, to write about it every morning, to sit down every day and occupy the state of being in a relationship. And so that's what I did. I tried really, really hard to feel like I was in a relationship. But the truth was that I wasn't. And then I'd get frustrated. I would think to myself, God, this isn't working at all. And then one day I sort of gave up on, um, the whole thing. Like, I got tired of trying so hard. Can you guess what happened next? What happened within a week was I met the woman of my dreams. I gave up trying so hard. And then it happened. So how is that possible? Well, because the person who has a thing doesn't try hard to get it. The person who is inhabiting the identity of someone who has something just has it. You acknowledge it, of course, you feel it, but you don't try so hard because that wouldn't make any sense if you already have a thing. And that's why trying too hard is one of the primary reasons people aren't successful in materializing what they want. Does that make sense? Yes, you have to feel it, but no, you don't have to try so hard, because when you're putting a lot of effort into something, then you're not being the person who has it. And feeling as though you have it already is the key, according to Neville, to opening up the doorway to receiving it. And for years, this was like a puzzle to me. And I see so many people getting tripped up in this sense, especially when they hear Neville talking about how important feeling is. And of course he's right. But what feeling? Feeling like the person who already has a thing is very different than feeling like the person who's trying to manifest a thing. It seems like a 2 millimeter distinction, but those feelings are miles apart. Now, Neville also recommends that you embody the feeling because feeling is the secret feeling, like the person who already has the thing that you desire as you're drifting off to sleep. He talks a lot about sleep. And there's a lot of support around alpha waves, theta waves, beta waves, and the wave state of manifestation. And, uh, what type of wave state we're in as we're drifting off to sleep. Because certain states allow the subconscious mind to be more accessible. And what Neville says is that as you're drifting off into sleep, that's the time to do your embodiment practice. His instruction is to use that transition into sleep to experience what he calls the satisfaction of your desire already fulfilled. So as your body starts to relax and your attention begins to turn away from the room around you sit in this inquiry, how would I feel if this were already resolved? If the thing I'm worried about had worked out? What would I be experiencing right here, right now? And then allow yourself to rest into that feeling, into that experience. You don't have to solve the situation in bed. Uh, you don't have to mentally organize every conversation and every action that would produce the outcome. That's not the point. You're practicing the experience of completion. Now, as I mentioned before, you don't want to make this another chore, right? Because it's easy to start thinking, okay, I've got to feel it. Am I feeling it enough? Was that the right feeling? What if I fall asleep before I do it properly? That's all coming from my own personal experience. But suddenly you're back into being who? The person who doesn't have it. And that's why Neville talks about relaxation being the key. And I think this is much more important even than the feeling. Relax around the thing that you want. This is where I would connect it to a formula that we teach called the Golden Equation. It's really a really simple equation for how manifestation works. And that is desire plus non resistance equals desired result. So if you have a desire for something, if you want something, and you don't have any resistance to that thing, there's no limiting beliefs, there's no urgency. Given a little bit of time, 100% of the time, consistently and predictably, you will create that outcome. So let the practice be gentle. Enjoy relaxing into the receiving of the feeling of already having. And as you do that, you're practicing the identity of the version of you that already has it. This brings us to Neville's third chapter on prayer. So for Neville, prayer involves entering this inward experience of the answer already received. And this is a very different relationship to desire. Because so often, even when we're praying, we're actually reinforcing the distance between ourselves and what we want. Might M sound something like, please Help me get there, you know, oh God, please let this happen. Please change this situation. And underneath those words, we may still be feeling helpless, separate, uncertain whether what we want is available. And so Neville asks you to assume the inward attitude of someone whose prayer has already been answered. It's a very different kind of prayer that's more like a form, uh, of thanksgiving. So proper prayer, according to Neville, is an acknowledgment that what you want already is. You're just waiting in eager anticipation for its material realization. Now, I want to pause here because this is exactly where I think people get stuck. And I want to share with you a distinction that Neville teaches that was a literal game changer for my capacity to inhabit the feeling of the wish fulfilled. But before I continue, I did want to let you know that I've spent the last 18 months working on a project that is truly going to change personal growth forever. And on December 4th and 5th, I'm going to be doing a live two day masterclass, it's called the Change Mind Masterclass, to finally reveal what I believe is the missing piece to creating consistent, sustainable change. And to celebrate that, I'm doing something I've never done before called Mindset Month. So for the next 30 days, I'm inviting you to do personal growth with me. And it's completely free. For 30 days, I'll be sending you daily tools and practices and AI powered experiences to help you actually integrate everything we're talking about here into your daily life. And then on December 4th and 5th, you'll join me for the two day masterclass where I'm going to break down the system that we've put together that we are finally ready to reveal. Right. There's a link in the description of this episode. You can go click on it, get, uh, registered for free for Mindset Month, and we'll be able to do personal growth together for the next 30 days. Okay, so check that out for sure. Now, as I mentioned, a lot of people get stuck at this point. They understand everything we've just talked about. They understand the idea of feeling the wish fulfilled. They understand the bedtime practice. They understand that repeating words while feeling the opposite isn't the same as accepting something is true. But then they look at their circumstances and they say, David, I'd love to feel that way, but it isn't true. I'm not financially free. I haven't met that person. My business isn't where I want it to be. And so this entire technique, this technology that Neville is recommending starts to Feel like you're trying to trick yourself or like you're pretending. And to me, this is where another part of Neville's teaching becomes so, so powerful. Because underneath that resistance is an assumption. And the assumption is that the reality that you're experiencing is the only reality that exists and the only reality that you can respond to what you're detecting with your five senses. In other words, if I can see it, if I can touch it, if I can hear it, then I believe it. And whatever it is that I'm experiencing, that's what I'm allowed to feel. But until then, I have to wait. And so Neville challenges that assumption. In a later book called out of this World, he explores what he calls thinking fourth dimensionally. Now, I've done some episodes on this. They're some of my most popular episodes. But, uh, Neville says, look, there are actually two dimensions existing simultaneously right now. There's the third dimension, which is a material dimension that we detect through our senses. And we usually refer to that as reality. It's the exclusive, it's the only reality. But he says existing parallel to the third dimension is a fourth dimension. It's an equally valid reality as the kind of fabric of potential that is all around us. It is an invisible, energetic reality where all possibilities exist right here, right now. Some people refer to this as the field. In fact, he says something really powerful about the fourth dimension, which is that in the fourth dimension, creation is already finished. What he means by that is everything that ever has and ever will exist actually exists right here, right now in the fourth dimension. So your dream home, your soulmate relationship, the successful business, the abundant bank account, it all exists right here, right now. In your ability to materialize that reality into your third dimension, material physical existence is to align your thoughts, your emotions and your identity with the thing that you want. To act as if you are the person who already has those things and then those things must materialize. Now, he's not talking about some sort of instant manifestation where a million dollar bank account just magically appears on your sofa. Uh, what he's saying is, is that as you align yourself with the person who already has the thing through thoughts that you have, actions that you take, coincidences that occur given a short period of time, it will move from the fourth dimension into your third dimensional reality. And I love this idea because for so long I struggled with this idea that I had to feel like I had something when I didn't have it. But when I understood Neville's fourth dimensional philosophy and I bought into it, that what I want does exist right here, right now. Then I was able to truly say, okay, look, I know I have this thing. I'm just waiting for reality to catch up. I'm waiting for my frequency to calibrate to that reality. And then my circumstances and the space around me must match that which I've been loyal to. And that gave me permission to start feeling as though I had it. And that's exactly the technique that Neville is teaching. So I think this fourth dimensional concept is really important and really helpful. Sometimes I think about it as almost being like a 360 degree movie screen. And as I change my frequency, as I start to assume the wish fulfilled and change my thoughts and change my emotions and change my identity, then the movie changes around me. And so this is a really important distinction that unlocks our capacity to live as though, uh, the wish were fulfilled. And as Neville pointed out, that feeling is the secret. So this has been a game changer for me, for my life. It's how I attracted my wife. It's how I built my business. It's why I give myself permission to think big and dream big and anticipate the having of things that other people would think are impossible. Because I believe to a great degree, I do already, uh, have it. It's right here, right now. And that belief that feeling is what then compels my reality to confirm that as fact. In fact, Neville suggests that when you're imagining something, you're not making it up. You're tuning into the field that is here right now. And that the evidence of the fact that what you want is right here, right now is the fact that you can imagine it. In other words, your brain is like a receiver and you're tuning into that part of the field or the fourth dimension. You can see your future. And now the key or the work is to live as though it were already here. Because it actually is. Like, this just makes so much sense to me. And again, some people will say, man, you're out there, you're just pretending something that isn't real. And I like to say, yes, I'm pretending. I'm tending in advance to the reality that I'm creating. Now, if you want to take what we've talked about today and actually start thinking fourth dimensionally and living fourth dimensionally again, I want to invite you into something that I'm really excited about. Like I mentioned before, for the last 18 months, I've been working behind the scenes on the biggest thing I've ever created. What I believe is the missing piece that explains why you can do all this work on yourself and still struggle to make changes stick. I'm finally revealing it at the Change mind masterclass on December 4th and 5th and to celebrate that, I'm doing Mindset month. So for 30 days, I'm going to do personal growth with you.
