Easter Encounters: Week 3 - Good Friday - The Innocent for the Guilty

Description: In this week's Easter Encounters, we examine the trial where the notorious prisoner Barabbas was set free while Jesus, the innocent Christ, was condemned to death. Though Pilate’s wife warned him of Jesus’ righteousness and Pilate himself questioned what evil Jesus had done, the persuaded crowd demanded the release of the guilty and the crucifixion of the sinless.

This moment illustrates "The Great Exchange," where Jesus was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities to bring us peace. The heart of the gospel is not that we are better than Barabbas, but that we are Barabbas - the guilty who go free because the Innocent took our place on Good Friday so we could live forever through Easter.
